Chapter 661 Not One, but Two Lives Lost

Chapter 661 Not One, but Two Lives Lost

It waste at night, and snow began to fall. Therge, fluffy snowkes appeared eager to nket

the scene of the fire. When Joseph arrived at the hospital, a few snowkesnded on his long

eyshes, softening his typically sharp gaze. His eyes held a glimmer of moisture, revealing an

uncharacteristic absence of aggression and a touch of sorrow.

Lucas struggled to find the words to say. His voice trembled with emotion. "Sir, Ms. Chloe…is gone."

    "What do you mean ‘gone?’"

"Ms. Chloe had an ident at the mansion. She fell and was immediately brought to the hospital.

The doctors discovered severe internal bleeding. While they were performing the surgery, a fire

broke out. And despite their efforts, they couldn''t save the baby or her..."

Joseph froze, his senses dulled by the weight of the news. It felt as if darkness had enveloped him,

robbing him of sight. He could not see the figures before him or the path stretching ahead. All he

could hear was the haunting echo of Lucas'' words—Chloe was gone.

After just one night away, everything had turned into a nightmare. Chloe had been perfectly fine

    when he left...

Joseph frenziedly sprinted toward the sixth floor. As he drew nearer, the acrid stench of burning

materials invaded his nostrils, intensifying his anguish. The thought of Chloe being engulfed in

those mes filled him with dread. His eyes reddened and his face contorted with grief that

unnerved the firefighters at the scene.

"Are you a family member of the patient? This is all we could find of her remains. The fire was too

intense, and retrieving the body was impossible."

Joseph’s hands trembled as he stared at the small box before him. He took the box and held it in his

hands. A metallic taste rose in his throat, and in the next moment, he coughed up blood.

"Are you okay? Should I get you a doctor?" the firefighter expressed concern.

Joseph pushed the firefighter aside and rushed into the ravaged operating room. Chaos reigned

within. All the equipment had been reduced to unrecognizable ruins and the scent of charred flesh

    hung heavy in the air.

Disregarding his disheveled appearance, Joseph frantically scoured every corner, desperately

hoping to find any shred of evidence that did not belong to Chloe.

Suddenly, his foot made contact with something on the floor. He looked down and saw The wless

Love buried among the clutter. Once radiant, it has now lost its original luster. He knelt, retrieved the

diamond ring, and carefully wiped it clean. As he cleaned it, his vision became blurred.

The wless Love was the token of love he had given to Chloe. He remembered how much she

had loved the ring, treasuring it like a precious gem. Joseph brought his hand to his eyes and felt

    the tears on his cheek.

Lucas stood at the door, unsure of how to console Joseph. He understood that any words offort

would fall on deaf ears at this moment. He too was bewildered at Chloe’s sudden and tragic death.

Emily quickly arrived after receiving Lucas’ call. Her eyes fixated on the box clutched tightly in

Joseph''s hands, and a sense of foreboding crept over her. The hairs on the back of her neck stood

    on end.

    "Where’s Coco?"

Lucas'' lips quivered as he tried to form the words. "There was a fire… She''s gone."

Emily pointed at the box in Joseph''s arms, her face turning pale. "Is that what he''s holding? Coco''s

    remains?"

    "Yes..."

Emily''s entire body trembled, her eyes burning with anger and grief. In a surge of fury, she rushed

toward Joseph and delivered a resounding p across his face. "Y-You murderer! It''s because of

    you that Coco is dead!"

If he had not kept Chloe locked up, she would not have died at such a young age. Chloe’s child had

not even had the chance to experience the world. Joseph was responsible for not only Chloe’s

death but also the death of their child. Not one, but two lives were lost because of him.

Lucas was taken aback by Emily''s sudden aggression toward Joseph. He quickly stepped in

between them, shielding Emily. His voice trembled with fear as he said to Joseph, "Sir, Emily didn''t

mean it. It was just a moment of impulsiveness."
