Chapter 647 Something Seems Off With Avery

Spreading from his head, intense agony coursed through every vein in his body.

Fresh blood, startling and vivid, gushed forth.

His eyes widened as if unable to believe that he had been shot. The chill that ran through his body

made him realize that fall in Mocset was indeed much colder than Ackleton.

Cayden did not know who it was who bore him such a grudge to the point of attempting to assassinate

    him in a foreignnd.

He was certainly not benevolent to have been able to grow his business out of Aploth; there had been

quite a few people who he had driven to bankruptcy.

Though he had encountered some threats and intimidation, they were just that—threats.

His head was throbbing so intensely that it felt as if it was about to explode. The pain was so severe

that he was no longer sure if he was hallucinating.

The panicked cries of Jake and Ace, along with their furious roars, gradually became indistinct to

    Cayden''s ears.

Thest thing he saw in his mind''s eye was Avery''s beautiful, gentle smile.

    ... ? 2024 N?v/el/Dram/a.Org.

Roderick, dressed in all-ck attire and sporting ck sunsses, was looking even more rugged atop

    the mountain.

The intense, terrifying aura of murderous intent he exuded was chilling.

Behind him, dozens of his subordinates were lying in ambush, all of whom armed to the teeth with a

    myriad of weapons.

He blew on the barrel of the still-smoking gun, his expression smug and defiant.

Beside him, a blonde woman, stunningly beautiful and seductive, was dressed in simr ck attire.

Even in ordinary clothes, her enchanting figure could not be concealed, like a poppy in full bloom.

However, the venomous and cold expression on her face was enough to keep people warily at bay.

“Do you even know what you''re doing? You''re going to get us all killed!” A string of angry Remdikian

    words burst from her mouth.

She pointed a gun at Roderick''s head, looking quite ready to pull the trigger.

Having received orders to assassinate a high-ranking official, they had secretly obtained his itinerary in

advance and knew that he would pass by there that day. However, before the official arrived, the leader

of the mercenaries threatened to ruin their mission by opening fire at a civilian.

Completely unfazed, Roderick whistled at her in a lewd manner. With a subtle twist of his wrist, the

blonde woman''s pistol fell effortlessly into his possession.

He gave her smooth cheeks a gentle pinch while gripping her slender neck. “Don''t think that I wouldn''t

dare touch you just because you belong to that old man,” he said nonchntly. “I won''t hesitate to kill

you if you anger me. Don''t ask me why I killed that man. I never need a reason to kill.”

Just when he had finally fallen head over heels for a woman, she had cried out Cayden''s name in a fit

of ecstasy when they were in bed together. This deeply wounded Roderick, a man with an intense

    desire for possession.

Thus, Roderick had long wanted to take action against Cayden, but his influence was substantial back

home. Coupled with his tight security, it was difficult for Roderick to make a move.

Who would have thought that Cayden would fall into the trap he had set up himself? If this isn''t divine

intervention, I don''t know what it is.

Cassie grew limp from having Roderick holding her by the neck. His grip was so tight that it felt as if he

intended to squeeze the life out of her.

“Are you sure that man is already dead?” Cassie''s anger gradually subsided under the man''s violent

    threats.

“Of course. I am a sharpshooter, one in a hundred. I have never missed a shot,” Roderick boasted.

Cassie obediently kept her mouth shut, afraid of provoking this fierce and ominous figure.

She had experienced Roderick''s ruthlessness firsthand. He would not care if the person getting on his

wrong side was old, weak, a woman, or a child—he would kill them without hesitation.

But as Cassie gazed at the extraordinarily charismatic man at the foot of the mountain who had been

shot, an inexplicable sense of foreboding welled up within her.

It would be best if that man is dead. But if he survives, I have a funny feeling that his vengeance would

    be terrifying.

    ...

Avery was in the kitchen of the Lambert residence, helping ire cook. Concerned that the smog might

be ufortable, ire suggested that Avery rest in the living room.

As Avery did enjoy spending time with ire, she insisted on helping.

Unable to persuade her otherwise, ire let her help with washing the vegetables in the dry kitchen.

While Avery was rinsing the spinach, her belly gave a sudden, sharp pain. It hurt so much that she

    almost cried out.

    This time, it felt unusual.

No matter how much the baby usually kicked, it never hurt as much as it did today.

Avery''s right eyelid, too, began to twitch inexplicably.

A terrible premonition clouded her heart. She forced herself to stand, leaning on the table for support.

Her face was so pale that it looked as if it had been dusted with white powder, and her breathing

    becamebored.

Cayden? Could something have happened to Cayden?

Avery reached for her phone at once before suddenly remembering that she had left it in the corner of

the living room couch as she was busy in the kitchen.

ire, who was always monitoring Avery, noticed something off with thetter''splexion. She

immediately set aside her work and relegated the kitchen duties to the housekeeper.

Then, she took Avery''s arm gently. “What''s wrong, Ery?” she asked, concerned. “Are you feeling

unwell? Let me help you back to your room for some rest.”

Avery nestled in ire''s arms, taking a while to recover. Only when the pain in her stomach had slightly

subsided did she clutch ire''s sleeve, pleading, “Mrs. Lambert, my phone...”

Noticing the urgency in Avery''s demeanor, ire knew she must have pressing matters to attend to

and so helped her back to the living room.

As soon as they arrived in the living room, Avery immediately went for her phone, which she had left on

    the corner of the couch.

However, what she found there was a pile of scattered phone parts.

Nicole and Navya were sitting on another couch in the other corner, cracking sunflower seeds and

chatting. Every now and then, they would burst into peals ofughter.

“What happened to my phone?” Avery''s pretty face darkened. Her hand pointing at the parts was

    trembling slightly.

Nicole stood up at the sight of Avery''s fury. She feigned an apologetic look as she walked over. “I''m

sorry, Avery,” she said. “I was looking for something on the couch and identally knocked your phone

off, which is how it ended in this terrible state. I didn''t do it on purpose, and I had no idea your phone

was so fragile. It seems to be of poor quality. What say I buy a new phone to rece it after dinner?”

The sincerity in Nicole''s words was so genuine, her apologetic expression so heartfelt, and the

grievance on her face so apparent that it was impossible to bear any resentment toward her. Yet, Avery

    remained unappeased.

That phone had been a gift from Cayden.

Despite having dropped this phone on multiple asions, once even in water, it had remained

functional, nor had it ever shattered into pieces. Needless to say, its build quality was unquestionable.

Anybody with a discerning eye could tell that the phone has been deliberately damaged, yet Nicole has

the audacity to im it was an ident? B*tch!

However, she had no time to dwell on that matter. Her priority was getting hold of a phone to ascertain

    Cayden''s safety.
