Chapter 319
It was eleven o'' clock on a Monday morning.
Avery had never expected to receive a call from Dn himself, asking her to wait for him in front of City
Hall so they could file their divorce.
She was initially taken aback.
I thought I''d have to go through hell just to end our marriage or that he''d insist on a toughwsuit. Who
knew he''d decide on this so easily?
Despite clearly knowing that she would invite more criticism by applying for more leave—due to having
already taken so many days off in the past—the woman ultimately endured her department head''s
re and requested another day off. She was just so desperate to leave her marriage at this point.
Then, she hastily made her way over to City Hall.
Avery stood by the roadside and nced at her phone anxiously. He''s still not here yet. Is he backing
out at thest minute?
Yet, she spotted Dn''s silhouetteing her way just as she was about to give him a call.
The man looked dashing as usual, his eyes exuding a radiant glow as always. The sight of him making
countless women turn their heads to look at him and smile bashfully as he walked past made Avery
shake her head in defeat.
These girls obviously have no idea what he''s capable of behind those charming looks. He''s the
epitome of a wolf in sheep''s clothing.
The more Dn neared her, the colder Avery felt.
Her limbs stiffened as a tense feeling spread through her.
This belongs to N?velDrama.Org: ?.
Perhaps whatever happened that night was far too traumatizing and humiliating for her as she could
never forget how he had nearly vited her back then.
Dn stared at Avery in a daze.
She looked as gorgeous as always, but today, the chilly weather had resulted in a thinyer of frost on
her long eyshes, making them look like butterflies fluttering their wings whenever she batted them.
Dn had thought he should give up on the woman who had absolutely no feelings for him, but his
heart couldn''t help but beat faster as he saw her like this.
He even began to tell himself, If she treats me just a little better or pays me more attention, I would
never let go of her even if Cayden puts me behind bars again! I''d dly fight to the death with him over
her!
Yet, the woman''s words immediately shattered his calm. “Now that you''re here, let''s get this over with.”
Dn kept his eyes glued on her, not wanting to look away.
He grabbed her by the arm, unable to conceal the rage in his voice. “Do you want to leave me that
badly, Avery? Are you that looking forward to throwing yourself into Cayden''s arms?”
“What are you trying to do in public, Dn?” Avery jumped in surprise at his sudden outburst.
She tried to shake him off, only to be held more tightly and pulled into his embrace.
“Don''t do this, Dn!” she murmured while trying to shove him away. “I told you we''re not meant for
each other. You''ll definitely find someone else whom you can get along with better.”
Dn''s lips thinned as his expression clouded over.
He despised the words “not meant for each other” so much and was on the verge of cussing.
He caressed her tender face with his cold fingers. She looked so pure and sweet, but the repulsed
expression on her face filled him with despair.
The man thought he had done so much for her, even going against his own parents and family for her
sake. He believed she was as cold as ice, and it was his onus to make her warm up to him.
Little did he realize that this woman''s heart was colder than a cier.
Avery balled her hands into fists and stomped on Dn''s foot with the back of her high heel. “I''m
leaving you no matter what, Dn. If you refuse to get it done today, you can go home and wait for my
lawyer''s letter, but I believe none of us would benefit from a falling out like that!”
Avery was firm in her decision to get a divorce.
She had to end this miserable rtionship no matter what it took. Being forced to stay with him was
nothing but torture. Her words stabbed into Dn''s heart like a knife.
Gazing at the determined look on her face, he suddenly let go of her. “Okay. Let''s go.”
She feels nothing for me, so forcing her to stay will only make her hate me more. Why bother?
The man strode into the building, looking utterly deste.
Avery froze for a second before following him quickly.
There were more couples filing for divorce than those registering their marriage here at City Hall.
Standing in line before Avery and Dn were three other couples.
The first in line was a middle-aged pair, where the man was short and stout. He looked far from
attractive. The woman next to him wasnky and had a frown on her face. Although she looked to be
only in her forties, she already had a head full of grey hair.
Acting as their mediators, the two staff members asked them why they wanted to divorce each other.
The short man mmed a hand on the desk in response. “Why the h*ll do you care? If I want a divorce,
I''m getting one! I''m tired of looking at this hideous b*tch all day! Look at the way she dresses; it''s
embarrassing!” he snapped. “Everything would''ve been fine if she''d just stayed home and watched the
house, but she keeps poking her nose into every event I attend! Why should I still keep someone like
her around?”
The woman''s tears began to flow down her cheeks as her husband insulted her in front of all these
people.
“How heartless could you be, Harold?” she yelled while pointing at him. “You were just a nobody all
those years ago and couldn''t even afford a fancy meal, but I still chose to marry you! And now, you''ve
been going around chasing other women? You even brought a hooker home with you! I must be blind
to have fallen for a scumbag like you!”
Unable to tolerate her retaliation, the man flew into a rage and began to p her multiple times.
The woman fell to the floor in a heap and burst into tears, but that didn''t stop her from screaming at
him.
Chaos broke out as everyone''s gaze fell on the couple.
Even Avery couldn''t help but sigh.
In today''s marriages, women—especially middle-aged ones—were always at a disadvantage.
Without a career of her own and having to dedicate her entire life to her husband and children, a
woman like that might end up unable to care for herself and eventually lose her sparkle. As time
passed, the man might grow weary of her, leading to unhappiness in their marriage—just like this
couple who had now turned against one anotherpletely.
Seeing that, Avery swore to herself that she would never give up her career even if she were to end up
with Cayden.
