Chapter 244

    Chapter 244

As she was no longer living on her own, Avery prepared more breakfast.

Nevertheless, she had limited experience in making breakfast for that many people, and it was her first

time being a mother too. The breakfast ended up being a messybination of food that she hoped

would be nutritious for the children.

tes were neatly ced on the huge table, and there were ham sandwiches, egg stew, toast, milk,

and oatmeal. There was even a te of grilled fish in the middle of the table.

The man with the perfect deep-set features—Cayden—who was by the side of the table, was in a suit

and crossing his legs. His white shirt was free from wrinkles, and despite his casual pose, he looked

    noble.

The way he dug into his food was equally elegant. Avery enjoyed every second of watching him.

Both Rory and Zachary were sticking to the rule of not speaking while eating. The two of them were

sitting straight beside Avery with a spoon in their left hand and a fork in their right. Neither was too

    skilled with using the fork.

At that, Avery''s motherly instincts took over, and she began feeding the two children.

As she took a slice of ham to her daughter''s lips, she smiled and said, “Here''s the ham, Rory!”

Rory lifted her head to look at her mother''s gentle face before parting her lips. Then, Avery put the ham

    into the girl''s mouth.

Even though she had eaten ham multiple times, Rory still felt that the ham her mother fed her was the

    best ham she ever had.

The girl then winked at her brother. Look at how Mommy''s feeding me!

Zachary blinked as he hurriedly chewed the fruits in the oatmeal.

After swallowing everything in his mouth, he looked toward his mother in anticipation.

“Feed yourself,” Cayden said in a slightly foul tone when he raised his head to look at his son. It was as

if he could read the boy''s mind.

Avery hasn''t even fed me before? The boy''s so big now, but he still wants his mommy to feed him? I

won''t let him keep a bad habit like this!

Hearing that, Zachary had no choice but to scoop his food with his spoon.

Rory was listening to their conversation. Although Cayden was talking to her brother, it felt as if his

words were directed at her as well.

Thus, she quickly picked up her spoon and rejected her mother''s attempt to feed her again.

However, Avery felt that Cayden was too strict with the children.

Right as she was about to say something to Cayden, a fork with a piece of grilled fish was right by her

    lips.

    The children widened their eyes.

    Daddy''s feeding Mommy!

Avery was embarrassed as the children were watching her, but the only thing she could do was

swallow the boneless piece of fish before looking at Cayden.

At the same time, Rory and Zachary were staring at Cayden with pitiful eyes as well.

It was almost as if they were about to ask him for some candy.

Cayden stared back at the anticipating children. Then, he took two big pieces of fish and ced them

on their tes as if his conscience had finally returned to him.

Zachary drew his brows together and muttered, “Daddy, Rory and I don''t like fish...”

Rory chimed in, “That''s right. Daddy knows that Zach and I don''t like fish, but he still gave us fish. Say,

Mommy, don''t you think Daddy is mean?”

The girl then turned to seek constion from her mother as she pouted andined about how

unconcerned her father was with them.

Daddy doesn''t even know what we like to eat.

With a patient look, Avery said to them, “Dear, just leave it aside if you don''t want to eat it, okay? I''ll

    feed you something else.”

Although Cayden did not bother lifting his head as he continued eating his food, he coldly uttered,

“Children mustn''t be picky. The two of you must finish the fish on your tes today.”

Cayden knew that the children did not like to eat fish, but he felt that their picky eating habits would

stump their development in the future, so he was determined to put a stop to that.

“You''re mean, Daddy! I don''t like fish! Bad Daddy! I don''t want to like you anymore!” Rory was usually a

good girl, but she was throwing a tantrum now that she had her mother to back her up.

As she pushed the te away from her, she huffed and said, “I don''t want to eat fish. I don''t want to!”

    Bang!

Cayden had smacked the table so hard it shook.

Even the tes and utensils rattled.

Zachary, who was reaching out for more food, quickly retracted his arm from fright. Oh no, Daddy''s

    angry.

“Hmph! Mommy, did you see how mean Daddy was? He''s forcing us to eat what we don''t like.

Mommy... I''m full. I don''t want to eat anymore.”

With that, Rory jumped off the stool she was sitting on.

Avery anxiously tried to stop her and console her, but the girl was a quick one as she fled toward the

    door.

Cayden tensed his jaw and uttered, “Rory Moore, don''t evere back if you leave this house today.”

    It was a tant threat.

Rory turned around to look at her father''s intimidating expression. s, she lost all her courage and

returned to the table to eat with tears welling up in her eyes.

Avery was baffled. She never thought that the man would be this rough when lecturing the children.

Hence, she voiced out, “Cayden, they''re only five. Don''t you think you''re being too harsh with them like

    this?”

Ignoring Avery, Cayden continued ordering, “Finish the fish in your bowl. I don''t want to see anything

    left inside!”

“I don''t want to eat fish. I don''t want...” Rory angrily crushed the fish under her fork, a clear sign of how

    much she hated it.

“Daddy, we really can''t eat anymore. Can we eat it next time?” Zachary asked his father in a cautious

    tone.

Cayden gave them both a glimpse.

Who did the kids take after for their picky eating habits? Avery?

Both children shuddered from Cayden''s nce. They did not want to eat the fish, yet they had no

choice but to give in. Hence, they tamped the fear down and meekly ate the fish in resignation.

In the meantime, Avery was stunned to her core.

She never thought that the man, who was usually gentle despite his aloof demeanor, could be so

    imperious.

Only by seeing how her children quaked did Avery finally realize what kind of lives her children lived.

No wonder they''re so scared of their father! This is ridiculous... Even if they don''t like fish, we could

havee up with a different way to introduce the food to them. Did he have to threaten them like

    this? They''re still so young!

Avery, who always doted on the children, smacked her fork onto the table and yelled in fury, “Cayden

Moore, is this how you treat Rory and Zach all the time?”

Cayden finally returned his attention to the frowning Avery.

He had been too preupied with lecturing the two stubborn children. Every time he found the children

being picky with their food, he would turn livid.
