Chapter 460
Chapter 460 Cash In The Rain Check
The following morning, while having breakfast, Lysander handed over a bank card loaded with two
million to her parents.
“Lysa, why are you giving us your bank card?”
With a nonchnt expression, Lysander said, “I called Daphnest night. She mentioned she had
some personal savings set aside. She’s offered to lend us some to tide over our immediate needs,
interest–free.”
Maverick looked at her disapprovingly. “Really?”
Lysander handed him the phone directly. “Why don’t you call Daphine directly and ask?”
Laura mediated the situation and said, “All right, all right. Daphne really came through for us. Despite
her ownpany facing troubles, she was willing to lend us money. Lysa, you should invite Daphne
over for a meal sometime. Two million is not a small sum. We should properly thank her.”
Lysander said. “Herpany has been swamped with issuestely. I reckon she doesn’t have the
time. We can talk about it once things settle down.”

“Okay, anytime is fine. Just don’t let it interfere with Daphne’s important matters.”
Maverick was still somewhat skeptical. “Lysa, did Josiah give you this money?”
Lysander responded quickly and very honestly, “No.”
She spoke with conviction, for she wasn’t lying.
Upon seeing her confident demeanor, Maverick finally believed her. “As long as it’s not him, that’s fine.
Also, it’s not right to not pay interest. Regardless of who we borrow money from, we should give
Daphne interest at the rate same as the banks. We can’t let Daphne suffer a loss.”
As long as the loan could be paid off first, all future matters could be properly nned.
Lysander nodded. “All right, I’ll mention it to herter and see if she’s interested.”
“We must give it to her even if she doesn’t ept it. During our hard times, Daphne was there to lend a
hand, so we must show our gratitude.”
“Okay, okay. If you say so, I’ll do it. The food is getting cold. Dad, you better start eating. After we finish,
I’ll go with you to the bank to pay off the loan.”
After breakfast, Lysander apanied her father to the bank.
She watched with her own eyes as Maverick signed the documents and swiped the card, settling the
loan in
full.
To be on the safe side, Lysander also requested a loan settlement certificate.
By the time they returned home, it was almost noon.
Laura was at home preparing lunch, with her daughter, Michelle, who had recently be much more
sensible, assisting her mother.

When Lysander and Maverick arrived home, arge table full of dishes had already been set.
Lysander still had some money on her card. During dinner, she discussed with her parents, “Now that
we’ve bought the house, and there’s no rush to pay back the money, I’m considering enrolling Mich in a
summer camp. It would allow her to go abroad to rx for a while, and at the same time, interact with
students from prestigious schools to broaden her horizons.”
Laura gently declined. “We should probably save a bit instead of spending. Although Daphne isn’t in a
rush for it, it would be best if we repay her as soon as possible.”
Lysander said, “Mich needs to gain some experience. She can’t always stay by you and Dad’s side.
This is a perfect opportunity to foster her independence. Plus, interacting with students from Ivy League
universities will certainly improve her Stounian skills.”
“Lysander, this must cost a fortune…”
Lysander said, “You just focus on enjoying your summer camp abroad. Don’t worry about anything
else. Also, remember, stop reaching out to Zachary. Even if he calls you, don’t answer.”
As long as Michelle was not in Harborbrook, Zachary no longer had the means to threaten her using
Michelle’s safety.
After having lunch with her foster parents and younger sister, Lysander stayed at home until the
afternoon, reluctantly leaving only when she had to
Laura thought that Lysander was busy with work, so she didn’t persuade her to stay. Instead, she and
her husband packed some food for her to take with her, incessantly reminding her. “Come home if
you’re tired: take good care of yourself when you’re alone, and make sure you eat well.”
Lysander quickly epted it, not daring to look back as she left, fearful that her adoptive parents might
catch a glimpse of the fleeting vulnerability she had shown. “Okay, Mom.”
On the way back, Adrian sent a message to Lysander on WhatsApp: Is the matter resolved?
He deliberately waited a full day before he came to ask her.
Lysander replied: It’s already been taken care of. Thank you. I’ll definitely repay the money as soon as
possible.
Adrian responded with a casual emoji, jokingly adding: Sure, but you’ll have to treat me to a meal.
Lysander felt a slight unease in her heart, but she indeed owed Adrian a huge favor this time. Given
that her benefactor had made a request, it seemed inappropriate for her to refuse. So, she replied:
Sure, you
choose the restaurant.
On the other side, Adrian had been staring at the message on his phone screen for quite a while. He
rubbed his eyes as if fearing she might change her mind. He called her and asked, “Lysander, are you
really inviting me for a meal?”
“This incident is a big deal for our family, so I really should treat you.”
After a moment of contemtion, Adrian said, “You once promised me that given the chance, you’d
personally cook a meal for me, so I could taste your culinary skills. But up until now, you haven’t fulfilled
that promise. How about we cash in that rain check this time?
This was quite some time ago, so Lysander was surp sed that he still remembered.

Lysander genuinely didn’t want to give Adrian any more false hope, but the current situation made it
impossible for her to refuse him. “Okay,” she said, “but I’m still on my way. I’m afraid it might be a while
before I get home.”
The ingredients Adrian had brought over earlier were still in the refrigerator. She decided to pick up a
fish on her way home, which would be enough to prepare her specialty dish.
Adrian’s voice was brimming with joy. “Don’t worry, I’ll take a while to get there too. I’ll stop by your
ce. to pick up White Coat’s vination reconl,”
“Okay”
The two of them arrived at the front door almost simultaneously.
However, Lysander hadn’t expected that he would also bring White Coat back.
“It seemed like White Coat had a mild case of separation anxiety. The moment I stepped out, it started
to whimper. I simply couldn’t bear it, so I ended up bringing it along.”
Lysander nodded. “What did the vet say? Thanks for your help.”
Before anything else. Adrian slipped into his slippers, ced White Coat on the floor, and said, “The vet
assured me that its hind leg isn’t seriously injured. It’s almost fully recovered now. The only issue is that
the lost fur might take some time to grow back, so it might look a bit awkward for a while.”
Upon seeing Lysander, White Coat immediately began to wag its tail and circled around her, appearing
quite lively.
It seemed that over the past couple of days, Adrian had taken really good care of it.
Lysander lovingly stroked the fluffy bundle. “It seems like it’s time to supplement its diet with some fish
oil. I’ve heard it’s good for a dog’s coat.”
Adrian showed her the bag he held in his hand. “I picked this up while I was out fetching White Coat.”
Lysander was at a loss for words. Thousands of thoughts and words could only be condensed into a
simple thank you.
“You’re most wee.”
Adrian had naturally formed a habit of cooking here, and without a second thought, he tied on an apron
to lend a hand.
Just as Lysander had immersed the vegetables in the sink, she turned her head to peel a potato, only
to find that Adrian had already prepared theder, and with deft movements, had also managed to
defrost the meat.
With a hint of helplessness, Lysander said, “Didn’t we agree that I would do the cooking?”
“If I lend you a hand, the food will be served faster. I’m already hungry,” Adrian exined matter–of–
factly.
