    Chapter 446 Somewhat Inconvenient

Lynn trusted Lysander’s words and hurriedly said. “Dr. Thorne is the victim. You can’t arrest her!”

“Don’t worry, we’re just taking Ms. Thorne back to take a statement and file a case,” the police

    reassured

    her.

Lysander signaled Lynn to stay calm and added. “Okay, thank you for your hard work.”

Seeing Lysander’s exhausted and lightly dressed state, Lynn couldn’t help but worry. She quickly

offered, “Wait a moment. I’ll go to the duty room and get a thick coat for Dr. Thorne. It’s too cold

    outside.”

Lynn quickly ran back to the duty room and brought her own coat,

As she draped the coat over Lysander, she whispered, “Dr. Thorne, do you need me to exaggerate

your injuries a bit? I have a few colleagues in the forensic department.”

Lysander couldn’t help butugh. “You should get back to your duties. The obstetrics and gynecology

    department can’t be without staff.”

In the police interrogation room, Lysander detailed everything from hearing the strange noises in the

living room. When she got to the part where the thief tried to assault her, she became more concise.

“The scene was chaotic. I couldn’t breathe as he covered my mouth, and I was scared. I just grabbed

whatever I could and hit him. By the time I came to, he was unconscious on the floor, and the ss

beside him was shattered. I was afraid he’d die, so I called an ambnce.”

As she spoke, Lysander subconsciously clutched the front of her coat.

The female officer sympathetically handed her a cup of hot water. “Ms. Thorne, there’s no need to be

    afraid. You’re safe here.”

“Thank you.” Lysander took a sip from the cup, feeling the warmth spread through her. As she held the

    paper cup, herplexion improved significantly.

The officer taking her statement reviewed the details from start to finish, then called his colleagues at

the hospital to check the situation. Finally, he said seriously, “Ms. Thorne, the suspect has been

identified. He has a criminal record, though it’s mostly shoplifting in malls. This is his first home

invasion, likely due to inexperience. He probably didn’t expect you to fight back so fiercely and end up

    knocking him out.”

A criminal record? Good. It will make proving my case simpler.

The female officer noticed her distraught state and offeredforting words, “Don’t worry, he’ll be

heavily sentenced this time. As a young woman living alone, it’s not umon to attract unwanted

attention. When you get home, make sure to change your locks and upgrade your security windows.”

“Yes,” Lysander murmured. “I thought I was already very careful, and I heard the neighborhood was

rtively safe. I didn’t expect this.”

The officer added, “In the future, you might want to consider leaving a pair of old men’s shoes at your

door. Thieves tend to avoid ces where they think a man might be living”

Lysander smiled wryly inside but didn’t show it. She simply said, “Okay, thank you.”

hospital’s report, the suspect is severely injured. He has an open skull wound, multiple rib fractures,

and at broken jaw. Honestly, it’s hard to believe you caused all this alone.”

Understanding the medical terms, Lysander hesitated before saying, “I didn’t expect things to turn out

this way when I was fighting back.”

    “Is that really so?”

Lysander insisted. “I remember hitting his head during the struggle.”

The officer’s gaze turned sharp. “Even if the head injury was caused by you, what about the fractures?

Ms. Thorne, have you had any martial arts training? Tackwondo, karate, or wrestling?”

Lysander knew she couldn’t lie her way out. Understanding that saying too much could be problematic,

she maintained silence on that issue, simply saying, “What I’m telling you is true. You canpare the

DNA once the forensic samples are ready.”

“We don’t doubt you,” the officer softened his tone, though suspicion lingered. “The suspect’s injuries

are severe. If you have no martial arts training, it’s unlikely you alone could cause such damage.”

The female officer assured, “Don’t worry, his life is not in immediate danger. Whether your actions were

justified self–defense will be determined by the investigation.”

Lysander sighed internally. She gathered her courage and admitted, “There was someone else who

saved me. He’s a friend. He fought the thief to protect me. If he hadn’t shown up in time, I might have

    been…”

The disgusting memory of the thief’s stench made her take several deep breaths to steady herself.

The police asked patiently, “Your friend should still be in the area, right? Can you call him toe and

    make a statement?”

Lysander hesitated. “It’s not convenient. He has a special status and can’t easilye to the police

station. I’ll take full responsibility for the incident. I’m willing to cover the thief’s medical and any rted

    expenses.

The officer shook his head. “You’re the victim. It’s not your ce topensate the suspect. If

    anything. he should bepensating you.”

Lysander insisted, “I respect the police’s decisions, but I don’t want my friend’s life disrupted because

    of this. Please understand.”

The female police officer was about to persuade her further when a colleague entered, saying, “The

victim’s friend is here. Should I let them in?”

    Everyone looked at Lysander.

Earlier, on the way to the police station, she had called Daphne.

“Yes, that’s my friend. I contacted her toe pick me up,” Lysander said.

Soon, a figure appeared in the interrogation room, but it wasn’t Daphne as expected. It was Adrian,

    looking anxious and rushed.

Seeing Lysander, he immediately asked, “Are you okay? Are you hurt?”

Since arriving at the police station, Lysander had tidied herself up a bit. Though she still looked tired,

her torn nightgown was hidden under her coat, making her appear less disheveled. She reassured him,

    “I’m fine.”

Adrian breathed a sigh of relief. “That’s good.”

“Dr. Guerra, why are you here?”

He wiped the cold sweat from his brow, exining somewhat incoherently. “Daphne called me. She

said you were in danger and at the police station. She wanted toe herself but got caught up with

something at home, so she asked me toe first. She’ll be here soon.”
