“I’ve already told you, please stop pestering Zachary so much,” Lysander chided her sister.
“But Zachary himself mentioned that he had some free time today and had to run a few errands in that
part of town anyway. It actually works out perfectly, being right on his way,” Michelle countered.
Lysander’s response was tinged with urgency. “I’ve repeatedly told you not to get involved with him…..
Michelle, can you please just listen to me?”
“Did things end that badly with Zachary? Why do you seem so eager to avoid him?”
“Just stop questioning me.” Lysander insisted. “Do what you’re told, okay? I’m going to pick up Mom
this afternoon. Stay at home and behave yourself, all right?”
“All right, I get it.”
It was only after she had ended the call that Zachary let out a chuckle. “Are you really that frightened of
me?”
Lysander did not offer him a weing look. “If you’ve finished what you had to say, then please
leave.”
“I’m on my way out, but you might want to consider trying a little harder. After all, Josiah is a man who
once had genuine feelings for you. If things get desperate… you might have to make some sacrifices.
You know, with most men, as long as their physical needs are met, all other matters can usually be
negotiated…”
Lysander red at him furiously. “You must really have been born the wrong gender. If you were a
woman, I imagine you’d be using your body to barter for all kinds of favors.”
“You should count yourself fortunate,” he retorted. “If Josiah wasn’t straight, I might actually find him
quite appealing.”
Lysander responded with scorn, “Well then, I wish you bright future.”
With a dismissive gesture, she turned her back, neatly sidestepped him, and strode away with
determination.
Zachary’s voice followed her retreat, resonating through the air, “I’ll be eagerly awaiting your good
news.”
Later that afternoon, Lysander caught a taxi and journeyed to the bus station to collect her mother,
Laura.
When Laura appeared, it was evident she was far from fine; the redness in her eyes was a silent
testament to tears recently shed, likely a result of her less–than–ideal visit back to her hometown.
Laura confessed, “Your eldest uncle is nning on constructing a home but finds himself short of the
necessary funds; your second uncle’s daughter is preparing for marriage, needing a sizable dowry,
leaving him strapped for cash too. And your aunt, she’s not faring well either, so I found it too difficult to
broach the subject with her.”
Embracing her mother warmly, Lysander consoled her, “Let’s not lose heart, we’ll tackle these issue’s
one at a time. We still have a few days left; I’ll figure something out.”
Laura asked, “By the way, Lysa, you’re close to Daphne, aren’t you? Maybe you could inquire if she
could…”

“I’ll look into it, but let me take you home first,” Lysander reassured her, feeling the weight of the
numerousplications that seemed to converge upon her return to her homnd.
After ensuring her mother was settled at home and sternly advising them against contacting Zachary,
Lysander made her way directly to Guerra Group’s towering office building.
Zachary’s earlier words rang true–being marked by someone of his character was a recipe for
ceaseless trouble. Zachary had made it clear he was not one to relent until his goals were achieved.
Upon her arrival at the Guerra Group building, Lysander was met with the news from a receptionist that
Josiah was not present.
Has he gone shopping with his new girlfriend again?
Without Tiffany’s contact details, Lysander had no option but to turn to Zane for assistance.
The atmosphere around Zane was distinctly chaotic; the faint sound of billiard balls shing was
audible in the background.
“Sounds like you’re at a billiard lounge?” Lysander guessed.
Zane responded with a nonchnt hum, “Seems like Josiah has reignited his interest in pool. He was
here just the other day, and now he’s back.”
“Still hanging out with the usual crowd?” Lysander probed.
Zane exhaled sharply.
“What’s wrong?
“It’splicated,” he replied cryptically, “You’ll see what I mean when you get here.”
Hearing this, Lysander surmised the situation’must’ve beenplicated..
Despite being somewhat prepared, Lysander was still surprised upon her arrival at the billiard lounge.
Previously, the clientele had been predominantly male except for one female college student. This time,
however, the scene was quite different–all the patrons were women.
Among them, ‘Lysander immediately recognized one–a woman with vibrant red lips and luxuriantly
wavy hair, whom she had seen with Josiah in Skywatch under the moonlight. She sat casually next to
Josiah, holding his zer and a cigarette with practiced ease, the smoke swirling around her.
As Josiah took his shot, standing back to survey the table, Lysander noted his right wrist appeared
swollenpared to his left.
Not far from this scene, Lysanne and Tiffany were deep in conversation, surrounded by several
unfamiliar
faces.
What exactly is happening here!
Zane, suddenly appearing, whispered, “Lysander! You got here quickly; I thought I’d have to wait
longer.”

Lysander, still perplexed by the scene, questioned, “These women… they all rte to Josiah
somehow?”
Zane ran his fingers through his hair, his expression perplexed. “I’m not sure what Josiah’s n is, but
it seems these women aren’t bothered by each other’s presence. It’s not our ce toment, really.”
“What about Tiffany and Lysanne? Do they not mind?” Lysander queried.
Zane chuckled, “What can Lysanne do? She just has to put up with whatever Josiah decides. As for
Tiffany…” He trailed off as he felt a piercing gaze on him.
“Zane.”
“Did you call me, Josiah?” Zane hurried over to him after shooting Lysander a look. “What’s wrong?”
Josiah nced at Lysander and frowned. “Why is she here again?”
“I–I have no idea.”
Till is on her period and can’t have anything cold. Go get her some warm water from the bar.
“Huh? Oh, right, of course.”
Thedy with red lips and curly hair leaned closer to Josiah and remarked, “Mr. Guerra, you’re really
thoughtful.”
Josiah halted her with a raised hand. “What’s that smell? It’s overwhelming.
“Perfume,” she said.
Josiah scowled. “What sort of perfume? It smells strange.”
The woman leaned in closer, a mischievous sparkle in her eye. “It’s called Dawn after Sex.”
“Foreigners sure are bold when ites to nares.”
“They’re more open–minded, after all. Here, have a sniff. Doesn’t it smell like you’ve just had sex?”
Josiah shook his head irritably. “Stop messing around.”
“What’s the problem, can’t you handle a bit of humor now that you’ve got a serious girlfriend?” Thedy
with red lips and curly hair clicked her tongue. “You’ve switched partners yet again, but it looks like
you’re still being bossed around, aren’t you?”
Josiah abruptly extinguished his cigarette by stamping it under his shoe, issuing a stern warning,
“She’s still young. Watch how you speak.”
“Feeling a little heartbroken?” The woman probed further, “But why do I get the impression that she
isn’t truly the one who captures your heart?”
Josiah let out a disdainful scoff, That’s absolute nonsense.”
“Moreover, they imed you have been deeply in love with your former wife for over two decades.
However, from what I’ve observed, it hardly seemed significant. You scarcely spared her a nce, and
it almost appeared as though there was a palpable disdain from you toward her.”
