Early the next morning, Winnie reached for the phone on the shelf by her bedside out of habit the
moment she woke up.Xavier’s messages popped up on her screen the second she switched her phone
on.One of the messages was sent five minutes ago, asking if she had woken up. The other message
was a reply to her text the previous night, as well as wishing her a good night’s sleep.When she read
