John Wyndham’s The Chrysalids is generally held to be his best work - right up to the penultimate chapter! But the ending leaves a lot to be desired, with all sorts of loose ends. In this sequel which is set in the same storyline and in the same location (Labrador), I aimed to remedy that situation, with the continuation in a narrative style similar to Wyndham’s, and with attention to detail and episodic events. I also endeavoured to develop the main players’ characters a bit more. The principal characters whose careers are continued here are Sophie and Mark (both of whom, it turns out, are still alive), Michael, and Rachel. But I introduce several new characters and the story has some surprising twists.Familiarity with Wyndham's The Chrysalids will be helpful but not essential.Lewis Berneu.
