Chapter 135: We have to go back to the castle

The morning light filtered softly through the curtains of our room, casting a warm glow over everything it touched. I blinked awake slowly, still feeling theforting weight of Seraphina''s arm draped across my waist.

The air was filled with the scent of her, a mix ofvender and something distinctly her own, soothing me into a state of quiet contentment.

I turned my head slightly to see Seraphina still asleep, her face rxed and peaceful in a way that I rarely got to see. Her lips were slightly parted, her white hair syed across the pillow, and her breathing was slow and even.

She looked so at ease, so different from the fierce warrior who had fought by my side for so long. In this moment, she was just Seraphina my Seraphina and I felt a wave of affection wash over me.

Careful not to wake her, I shifted slightly, savoring the warmth of the bed and thefort of being close to her. My mind drifted back to the events of the previous day, the way Seraphina had nned everything to perfection, giving me a day of peace and joy that I hadn''t known I needed so desperately.

It had been a day ofughter, of lightness, of simple pleasures that had made me feel more alive than I had in weeks.

As Iy there, I realized how much I had needed this how much we both had. The constant battles, the pressure of our responsibilities, and the weight of the past had been slowly wearing us down.

But yesterday had been a reminder that there was more to life than just fighting, that there were moments of beauty and happiness to be found even in the midst of darkness.

I closed my eyes again, intending to drift back to sleep, but I felt Seraphina stir beside me. She shifted, and I opened my eyes just in time to see her blinking awake. Her eyes met mine, and a sleepy smile spread across her face.

"Good morning," she murmured, her voice thick with sleep.

"Good morning," I replied, smiling back at her. "Did you sleep well?"

"Better than I have in a long time," she said, echoing her words from yesterday. She stretchedzily, her muscles flexing beneath the covers, and then she settled back into the pillow, her gaze never leaving mine. "How about you?"

"I slept well," I admitted. "I think I needed it."

"You did," she said, her tone firm but gentle. "You''ve been carrying so much, ra. It''s okay to rest."

Her words, as always, hit right at the heart of things. She had a way of cutting through my defenses, of seeing right into the parts of me that I tried to keep hidden. It was bothforting and disconcerting, but I knew she meant well. She always did.

"Thank you for yesterday," I said softly. "It was... perfect."

"You''re wee," she replied, her smile softening. "I''m d you enjoyed it. We needed a day like that, don''t you think?"

"Definitely," I agreed, feeling a warmth spread through me at the memory of our time together. "It was exactly what I needed."

Seraphina''s smile grew, and she leaned in to press a gentle kiss to my forehead. "Good," she whispered. "Because today, I was thinking we could have azy day. No ns, no pressure just us."

"Azy day?" I repeated, raising an eyebrow in surprise. "That doesn''t sound like you."

"I know," she said with a chuckle. "But even I need a break sometimes. And I can''t think of a better way to spend it than with you."

Her words sent a flutter through my chest, and I couldn''t help but smile. "I think that sounds like a perfect n," I said, snuggling closer to her and resting my head on her shoulder. "What do you have in mind?"

"Well," she began, her voice taking on a yful tone, "we could stay in bed a little longer. Maybe order some breakfast and eat it right here."

"That sounds nice," I said, already imagining the delicious smell of food filling the room. "And after that?"

"After that, we could just... rx," she suggested. "Maybe take a long bath, read a little, or just talk. Whatever you want, ra."

The idea of apletely unstructured day was both foreign and enticing. Our lives had been so dominated by schedules, ns, and battles that the thought of doing nothing felt almost like a luxury.

But it was a luxury I was more than willing to indulge in, especially if it meant spending more time with Seraphina.

"Let''s do it," I said, feeling a sense of excitement bubble up inside me. "Azy day sounds perfect."

Seraphina grinned and leaned down to kiss me again, this time on the lips. It was a soft, lingering kiss, full of warmth and affection. When she pulled back, there was a sparkle in her eyes that made my heart skip a beat.

"Let''s order breakfast, then," she said, reaching for the bell to summon the innkeeper.

A short whileter, there was a knock at the door, and Seraphina got up to answer it. She returned with a trayden with food fluffy scrambled eggs, crispy bacon, freshly baked bread, fruit, and a pot of steaming tea. The smell alone was enough to make my stomach growl in anticipation.

We settled back into bed with the tray between us, the covers pulled up around us as we dug into the feast. The food was simple but delicious, and we took our time eating, savoring each bite and enjoying the leisurely pace of the morning.

"This is nice," I said after a while, taking a sip of tea and leaning back against the pillows. "I don''t remember thest time I had breakfast in bed."

"Me neither," Seraphina admitted with a chuckle. "It''s one of those things you don''t realize you miss until you do it again."

I nodded in agreement, feeling a sense of contentment settle over me. There was something incrediblyforting about being here with her, sharing this quiet, intimate moment.

After we finished breakfast, we stayed in bed for a while longer, talking andughing, the conversation light and easy. Seraphina''s presence had a way of calming my mind, of making me feel like everything was going to be okay, even when I wasn''t sure of anything else. It was a gift, one that I didn''t take for granted.

Eventually, Seraphina suggested we take a bath, and I eagerly agreed. The inn''s bathhouse was small but cozy, with arge stone tub filled with steaming water.

Seraphina drew a bath for us, adding a few drops ofvender oil to the water, and soon the room was filled with the soothing scent.

We slipped into the tub together, the warm water enveloping us like aforting embrace. I let out a sigh of contentment as I leaned back against the edge of the tub, my body rxingpletely for the first time in what felt like forever.

"This is heaven," I murmured, closing my eyes and letting the warmth seep into my muscles.

Seraphina chuckled softly, her hand finding mine under the water. "I''m d you''re enjoying it," she said. "You deserve to rx, ra. You''ve been through so much."

"So have you," I pointed out, opening my eyes to look at her. "You''ve been carrying the weight of the world on your shoulders too, Seraphina."

She gave me a small, wistful smile. "Maybe," she said softly. "But I''m strong enough to handle it. And so are you."

Her words sent a wave of warmth through me, and I squeezed her hand in silent thanks.

We spent the next hour in the bath, talking quietly and simply enjoying each other''spany. The steam rose around us, creating a cocoon of warmth andfort that made the outside world feel distant and unimportant.

For a little while, it was just the two of us, lost in our own little world.

Afterward, we returned to our room, both of us feeling refreshed and rxed. The rest of the day passed in a blissful haze ofziness reading, napping, and talking about anything and everything. There was no urgency, no need to do anything but enjoy each other''spany.

At one point, Seraphina found an old book of poetry in the inn''s small library and brought it back to the room.

We took turns reading aloud to each other, the words filling the room with a quiet, soothing rhythm. It was a simple pleasure, but it felt deeply intimate, a connection that went beyond words.

As the day wore on, the light outside began to fade, casting the room in a soft, golden glow.

I was lying on the bed, my head resting on Seraphina''sp as she absentmindedly ran her fingers through my hair. The steady rhythm of her touch was hypnotic, and I felt my eyes growing heavy with contentment.

"Seraphina," I murmured, my voice drowsy, "thank you for today. It''s been... perfect."

She smiled down at me, her eyes warm and full of affection. "You don''t have to thank me, ra," she said softly. "I wanted to give

you a day of peace, a day where you didn''t have to worry about anything."

"You did," I said, feeling a wave of gratitude wash over me. "You always know what I need, even when I don''t."

"That''s because I know you, ra," she replied, her voice filled with a quiet certainty. "I know your heart."

Her words sent a shiver down my spine, and I felt a lump form in my throat. It was true she knew me better than anyone else ever had.

And despite everything, she still loved me, still stood by my side. It was a love that I didn''t fully understand, but one that I cherished more than anything.

As Iy there, I felt a sense of peace settle over me, a peace that I hadn''t felt in a long time. For today, at least, I didn''t have to be anything other than who I was. I didn''t have to fight, didn''t have to worry about the past or the future. I could just be, here in this moment, with Seraphina.

But as the light continued to fade, a shadow crossed Seraphina''s face, and I felt a sense of foreboding settle in my chest. She was quiet for a long moment, her hand stilling in my hair as if she was trying to find the right words.

"We have to go back to the castle now," she said softly, her voice tinged with regret.
