Chapter 48 Why Did You Go Back On Your Word?
Not long after Eric left, Elsie brought some pastries to Eileen’s room. She took a look at her injuries,
said some superficial words of care and left.
Even though she had taken her painkillers, Eileen still felt the throbbing pain on her back to the point
that she could not fall asleep at night.
She was awakened in a cold sweat by a nightmare in the middle of the night. She couldn’t move nor
adjust her posture, so she definitely couldn’t sleep well.
After a while, her chest hurt from lying t on her bed, so she took a pillow to cushion. herself.

She took a look at the time, it was half past three.
Eileen got up
from the bed and headed to the bathroom. She unbuttoned her pajamas and took them off slowly.

Having woken up in a sweat, and not to mention that it was a hot summer now, her whole body was
sticky all over. So she took a quick shower carefully, trying not to touch her wounds.
After putting on a new pair of pajamas, she walked out to the balcony to get some fresh air.
The stars shone dimly through the night, but the moon was extraordinarily bright.
The lights on the third floor of the opposite vi were off. Eileen realized that she hasn’t seen him in a

Richard: “Doctor, how is Mr. Jasper doing?”

Back in the VIP room, Jasper had already woken up. He was donned in a hospital gown that was

“It’s okay, you can head home first. Thank you for your hard work.” Jasper replied in a weak and husky
voice.

After Richard left, Jasper felt his phone underneath his pillow.
He opened his messages.
Their chat history was up untilst week.
She must be sleeping at this moment. Before this, when he would think about her, he wouldn’t normally
reach out to her. But now… He couldn’t stop himself from sending her a
text.
Jasper: What are you up to…?
Eileen had almost fallen asleep lying on her chair, but was suddenly awakened by the sound of her
ringtone.
She picked up her phone, squinted her eyes, and read the notification. It was from Jasper.

She sent another text: You’re not at home today?
Jasper: Nope, I have things to deal with at the hospital. Why are you still up?
Eileen: I can’t fall asleep, so I’m just sitting around. Why are you at the hospital? Are you unwell?

Eileen curled up her legs. The light from her phone screen reflected in her eyes. She didn’t know what
to reply to him.
So she just sent some usual words of concern.
Eileen” Since you have a cold, get some rest. Remember to drink lots of warm water and take your
medicine on time.

Eileen’s eyes flew open instantaneously after hearing that. She threw her nket to the side. “Okay,
got it. I’m getting up now.”
She grabbed her clothes, washed up and went downstairs, all within ten minutes.
Holding onto the handrail, she trotted down the staircase.
There was a group of people sitting neatly at the dining table.
Eric and Vera were here too.

Will: “Later, go to Aunt Elsie’s room and pick out something nice and formal to wear. I’m going to take
you and Eric to the banquet tonight.”
Eileen nked out. “Dad… can I not go tonight?”

“You are going even if both your legs are broken. There will be a lot of good, young boys. there tonight.
You can see if any of them suit your liking. You’re not a child anymore, anyways.”

“We can already start talking about it now. You can get married right when you finish your degree. I’ve

looked at Eric taking some food for Vera.
