Life was meant to be easier for those with power, that vicious lie had been burned into Malik from a young age, he saw it on tv, in his favourite cartoons, in the action shows he watched, and even on the news, those with power got what they wanted, and left those beneath them to squirm like worms, mere bait for bigger fish and their schemes. But once Malik awakened for the first time, it was not pride, nor happiness, nor love, he saw within the faces of his Mother and father, nor even that of his older sister, but fear, fear of the unknown, fear of him. He tried to show them that he was safe, he tried to tell them he was strong, he could be a hero, he had power and he could do differently to those who misused their own, but they wanted him to hide it, they told him not to show, but he didn''t listen.
It was a few days after his fourteenth birthday when Malik would lose those closest to him, he was taken as was normal for those his age, to be assessed and guided, to show the world those with the potential to be much more. He was proud, and foolish, he showed them what they wanted to see, he showed them his friend, the voice that whispered in his ear like the ever present wind, he did not remember much from that day now, only hazy remnants and an ever crushing anxiety, the feeling of having done something horrible but not remembering. He was taken from his family that very day, and tossed in a container with others his age, a collar around his neck, and chains that tied his legs.

He was brought to a facility made up purely of those who had awakened, and struggled with control, he didn''t understand why he had to go, but in this life, decisions are not always made by those who bear the consequence, that was a lesson he would learn fairly early. His first few years in the facility were more like a boarding school than anything else, he was washed, he was fed, and he was taught things. As the years ticked by and he grew from a boy to a young man he would grow to understand that this was no school, these letters from his parents, were nothing of the sort, and finally that he was a prisoner, or worse a resource. The facility was owned by the Mirakawa corporation, one of the largest and most affluent companies in the world. Though they rid him of his collar not long after he had entered this town of sorts, as it housed thousands easily, he would quickly learn that he was still shackled just like the rest of those around him, he saw it more than once, easily missed, a man would get angry at a guard, or a cook, would ask for more rations, beg for more food for his wife or his child, and shortly afterwards he would convulse on the floor, normally it only lasted a couple seconds, but he once saw a man convulse for what felt like an hour, before being taken by paramedics and never seen again. He never spoke up, in fact as years went by he found he almost couldn''t hear the whispers in his ear that claimed there was something more.
