A Life Debt Repaid By Cheng Xiaocheng Chapter 243

    Chapter 243

Even after Cordy said that, silence remained in the car. John acted as if he hadn’t

heard any of Cordy’s words. He kept his eyes firmly on the road, not looking

    away.

Cordy shoved down the turbulent emotions swirling angrily inside her. As calmly

as she could, she continued, “I have an important meeting early tomorrow

morning, and it’s already veryte right now.’

    “I know,” John replied.

Cordy waited a long time after he replied, but John didn’t speak again.

    She bit her lip, frustrated.

    Enter title…

Since he wasn’t going to say anything else, she leaned back in her seat and

stared out the car window at the night scenery once more.

Soon, they arrived at North Garden’s underground car park.

Cordy unbuckled her seat belt but remained seated. She turned to John and

    said, “Go ahead.”

Perhaps John couldn’t multitask while driving and needed to focus on the road.

That was fine, because Cordy had no intentions of being careless with her life.

“It’s toote now. Go back home and get some rest. I’ll see you tomorrow,’ John

    said bluntly.

“I don’t think we need to be so vague with words. Why don’t you juste out

and say it and get it over and done with? I don’t have much time to deal with you.

I’m very busy,” Cordy told him tly.

She didn’t want to continue dwelling on this matter. She had always been rather

straightforward, and had done the same to Kyle back then.

John tightened his grip on the steering wheel, then turned to look at Cordy.

Even though she was acting very submissive tonight, John could feel how distant

    she was.

“I didn’t know about my engagement with Jessica. My grandfather suddenly

announced it without my knowledge,” John finally blurted out.

He had been waiting outside her house for a long time. When she hadn’t returned

in the early morning, he had mobilized everyone he had to look for her all over

the city. When he heard she was at the hospital, he didn’t waste a second and

    sped to see her.

Seeing her leave the hospitalpletely fine put him only slightly at ease.

At that point, he didn’t want to disturb her rest and had simply wanted to send her

    home and leave.

However, Cordy obviously didn’t have that much patience with him; he

    understood that.

Anyone else in her position would also be the same.

He continued, “My grandfather’s been keeping an eye on me recently, and my

phone was confiscated. I couldn’te to you-”

“I know. Zoe gave me the heads up about that,” Cordy said, interrupting John.

There was no need for so many unnecessary exnations. The only thing they

needed between them was a proper conclusion.

John pursed his lips. He kept his gaze fixed on Cordy as he said, “I’m not going

to marry Jessica. Give me some time.”

    “How long?” Cordy asked.

    “Six months.”

“What if you still need to get married after six months?’

    “That won’t happen.”

“How can you guarantee that?’ Cordy asked with a bitter smile. She continued

coldly, “Your grandfather can snatch away your freedom and block all your

contact with the outside world. How can you convince me that you’ll be able to go

against him in just six months?”

“It was something that happened so suddenly, and I had nothing to prepare

myself for it. Besides, my grandfather promised to return my freedom after

Jessica left. She’ll only be in the city for a week. I didn’t want to make any moves

    that would raise his suspicions.”

And so, John chose to simply endure for now.

“I don’t trust you,” Cordy said slowly.

John swallowed harshly, his throat bobbing from the action as if he was trying his

best to hold back the emotions in him.

He had been well prepared beforeing, but to be really rejected so bluntly by

the woman before him still left a dull ache in his heart.

“Besides, I don’t want to be involved in a love-hate rtionship between your

family and the Stuarts. I don’t have that much patience to deal with both families,”

Cordy went on, her gaze steely and unwavering. She was terrifyingly firm in her

stance. “It was difficult to gain my days of peace. If I had to choose, I wouldn’t

    hesitate to leave you.”
