“Go, go, don’t gossip so much. We’re not a good match at all,” Xu Lan said. “Go home and do your husband’sundry.”
“Alright, alright, I won’t say anymore. But you need to take care of yourself. Don’t overwork.”
“Got it. I should be done with the report in another half hour.”
“Okay, I’m heading out.”
“Bye-bye.”
The two walked out of the office building together, and after seeing Fang Jing off, Xu Lan got into her car to go buy dinner.
…
In Yanjing, within the Third Ring Road, there was Shangju Courtyard.
In the modern city of Yanjing, Shangju Courtyard wasn’t particrly impressive.
Within the real estate industry, it ranked no higher than mid-tier.<div>
The only notable thing about it was its location.
Inside the Third Ring Road, in a city like Yanjing, this was prime real estate. The area was packed with high-rise buildings and upscalemunities.
But this ordinary Shangju Courtyard, located here, seemed somewhatckluster inparison.
However, if someone had status or strong connections, no one would dare to underestimate thismunity.
The developer of thismunity was a state-owned enterprise.
More than 90% of the residents had military or government backgrounds.
From the outside, it looked like a regr neighborhood, but those in the know called it a “family housingplex.”
Even the arrogant and reckless second-generation rich kids would avoid speeding through this area at night.
It was simply not a ce to mess with.
After leaving the Central Guards Brigade, Fang Jing went to the supermarket to buy a few things before heading home.
As a member of Team 8 in the Central Guards Brigade, her rank made it rtively easy for her to get a house in this area.
But today, Fang Jing’s mood seemed off. She carried her groceries without any expression on her face, as if deep in thought.
This was a stark contrast to the cheerful demeanor she had when talking with Xu Lan earlier.
As she drove up to the entrance of themunity, before she could pull into the underground parking garage, she noticed a taxi parked not far away.
Upon seeing the taxi, Fang Jing’s expression grew even more tense and uneasy, almost anxious.
If you looked closely, you could see her hands trembling, and beads of sweat forming on her forehead.
Hurriedly, she stepped on the gas and drove straight into the parking garage.
The taxi remained parked in the distance, unmoving.
Even when passengers tried to hail it, the driver waved them off, showing no intention of picking anyone up.<div>
Under the dim moonlight, it was unclear how much time passed before Fang Jing emerged from themunity, walking out into the night.
Her outfit hadn’t changed—she was still wearing what she had worn to work.
But her expression was even more serious and heavy.
It was as though something bad had happened.<div>
After stepping out of themunity, Fang Jing nced into the distance and saw that the taxi was still there.
At that moment, the taxi began slowly driving toward her.
Seeing this, Fang Jing’s body trembled, and she instinctively tightened her grip on her bag.
It was as though it contained something important.
In just a few seconds, the taxi stopped in front of her, seemingly waiting to pick her up.
After a moment of hesitation, Fang Jing opened the back door and quietly got inside.
She kept her legs close together, ced her bag on herp, and sped her hands, clearly nervous.
It was reminiscent of a young girl nervously sitting in a luxury car for the first time, afraid of breaking something.
But this time, Fang Jing was sitting in a taxi, making her behavior seem strange.
The driver was a tall man, at least over 1.8 meters.
He wore a face mask and a ck baseball cap, looking quite different from the usual cab drivers in Yanjing.
The most unusual thing about him, though, was his eyes. His pupils were unnaturallyrge, almost as if he were wearing colored contact lenses.
The thick hair on his arms added to the strangeness, making him look somewhat like a foreigner.<div>
“No need to be so nervous. I have a detection system in this car. If you were carrying any listening devices, an rm would have gone off as soon as you got in.”
The driver spoke in perfect English.
And he was none other than Walker, the man who had once faced off against Lin Yi in Sunrise Land!
Even though Walker said this, Fang Jing remained tense and said nothing.
“You don’t seem like you want to talk much, but that’s fine. We’re not here to chat anyway,” Walker said.
“Have you gathered all the information I asked for?”
After a few seconds of silence, Fang Jing nodded.
“Excellent.”
Walker reached into the center console and pulled out two cards.
One was blue, with a map of Meiguo and some English letters printed on it.
The other card looked simr to an ID, covered in English letters but also featuring Fang Jing’s photo.
“There’s one billion dors in here, and I’ve also arranged your green card.”
With that, Walker casually tossed the two cards onto Fang Jing’sp.<div>
Her hands trembled as though she had just caught a live bomb.
A full minute passed before Fang Jing cautiously grasped the two cards.
Through the rearview mirror, Walker watched her every move, a faint, inscrutable smile forming on his lips.
“The analysis of the C-ss serum is nowplete. We’ve identified the fatal w.”
Walker said, his expression turning cold.n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om
As the chief of staff for the Freemasons, he naturally knew about the drug’s shorings, but that wasn’t what concerned him.
A timeframe of five to ten years was more than enough for them to aplish many things.
His expression remained calm, however, knowing that the Central Guards Brigade wasn’t an organization to be underestimated.
Their ability to analyze the drug was no surprise.
“And now? With your position, you should know where the files are kept, right?”
“Yes.” Fang Jing responded briefly, the oppressive air around them palpable, the suffocating darkness weighing heavily on them. After forcing out a few words, she added, “But you can’t get in.”
“Why not?”
“You know better than anyone how high the Central Guards Brigade’s security is. Do you really think you can get in? As soon as you get close, the surveince systems will expose you.”<div>
“I’m not asking for that. I want to know where the core information on the drug is stored.”
“It’s underground, within the Central Guards Brigade,” Fang Jing said.
“There are three security doors, and the defenses are incredibly tight.”
“You’ve been working there long enough. You should have no trouble getting in, right?”
“No, you’re wrong.”
Fang Jing shook her head. “To open those three security doors, you need a special maic card, and I don’t have it.”
