She omitted the reason why the kids fought. All she said was that Sebastian wanted to get rid of the
Shrivers just because Jayden argued with Joel and Quincy. She could paint Sebastian out to be the
viin that way.
"I see," Sam said. "I''ll handle this." He hung up and summoned one of his most trusted men over, then
instructed him to look into the case. It was easy to find out about the truth, since they knew which
school it was and when the fight happened. His underling reported everything to him a short whileter.
He felt upset just listening to it.
Madeline only gave birth to the boys because his life was in danger. He had no idea about that, but the
fact was that the boys only existed because his life needed saving. They did save his life, and he owed
it to Madeline and the boys. I can''t believe Isabel and Queenie called the boys that, and in front of
Jayden, no less. It had been a long time since he was this furious. Sam was trembling, but he held his
fury back and called Isabel.
Isabel picked it up with delight. "So, how did it go, Sam?"
Madeline listens to Sam. I bet she''ll do as he says and tell Sebastian to let the Shrivers off the hook.
The Shrivers owe me one. I''m their savior now. She could never go home after her father decided to
cut all ties with her. She refused to see her friends either because they wouldugh at her.
She was good friends with Queenie and would frequent her ce to chat and gossip. If the Shrivers
knew Sam helped them because she asked him to, they would be even nicer to her. Oh, that''s gonna
be good.
Sam said coolly, "Isabel, you told me Sebastian wants to ruin the Shrivers because the boys got into a
fight, but you didn''t tell me why Aldo and Buddy argued with Jayden in the first ce. Can you tell me
all about it now?"

Isabel froze up. She panicked, but she pretended to be calm. "Oh, you don''t have to sweat the details,
Sam. It''s just a little banter. Probably started over some stupid stuff like a pencil or a candy. And kids
always forget things really quickly. They''ll put it behind them and shake hands tomorrow. Adults should
just stay out of their fights. I can''t believe Sebastian and Madeline want to ruin the Shrivers over that.
They''re impossible!"
Sam listened quietly, and he asked, "Do you think I''m a fool, Isabel?"
"Of course not," Isabel quickly denied. "You''re the nicest, most capable man I''ve ever seen. I can trust
nobody but you."
Her father disowned her after her mother was jailed. Dan used to spoil her, but he too renounced her.
He also saw her as a sworn enemy now. Every time they met, he would shoot daggers at her and mock
her every chance he had. It had been a long time since she saw her father and Dan. The sight of them
reminded her that she was no longer the beloveddy of the Taylors, and she refused to believe that.
She kept telling herself that this was temporary. She thought everything would go back to normal once
her father and Dan cooled down.
Sam was the only person who was nice to her. He gave her money, a ce to stay, and some servants
to take care of her. He was the only reason she could still live in luxury. He had wanted to send her
abroad, but she refused adamantly, and he relented in the end.
The Taylors were working on an important project with her uncle''spanytely. Sam stayed back at
Dusktown, so she too decided not to return to Worrick. Nearly nobody who knew her was in Dusktown.
Nobody would ask why her mother was jailed as long as she avoided running into them. She could not
do that if she went back to Worrick. Every richdy knew her back home, and she had nowhere to hide.
Worrick was also filled with her enemies. They might not have dared to do anything to her before this,
but now that they knew she had lost her prestige with the Taylors, they would not hold back on the
mockery. The thought of those losersughing at her made her sick. That was why she stayed in
Dusktown with Sam. That was the only way she could only convince herself that everything was still the
same, and that she was still the beloveddy of the house.
Sam was really strict on her. He would try to control everything she did, while Dan would just spoil her
with everything she wanted. She used to like Dan the most, but now, Sam was the only one she
adored.
Dan and her father were heartless men who disowned her at the first sign of trouble, but Sam did not.
He remained a gentleman and treated her like nothing had happened. Those memories bubbled within
her, and she purred, "You''re the nicest, best brother in the world, Sam!" Pity he''s my brother, or I would
try to marry him.
"And that''s why you lied to me?" Sam told her coldly about why and how the kids got into a fight. "The
boys did not fight over a pencil or a candy. They fought because Jayden called Aldo and Buddy

Isabel could tell that he was furious. She said nervously, "Sam, he''s just a boy. He didn''t know what the
word meant. You can''t me him for this."
"Yeah, of course he didn''t know what it meant. He learned it from the adults back at home," Sam
retorted. "The Harts never did anything wrong to the Shrivers, but the Shrivers insulted the boys and
called them names behind their backs. In that case, I don''t me Sebastian and Madeline for doing
this."
"No, that''s not it, Sam!" Isabel was finally panicking. "You can''t let them ruin a whole family over
something this trivial! That''s preposterous!"
Sam answered icily, "From what I know, someone lodged a report to the authorities, iming that the
Shrivers havemitted a list of crimes. Of course, they would be fine if that was a lie, but if it''s not,
then they deserve everything that happens to them. The Shrivers can lodge a report against the Harts if
they want. Keeping yourpetitors in check is a healthy way of doing business. I think the Harts did
the right thing. I''d wee ourpetitors to keep us in check as well, if they would be so kind."
