    Caroline sat up on the bed. She was simply too happy for Marietta. “That’s wonderful! Where is she?”


    “I haven’t found her yet.” Marietta sounded a little down.


    “I only know that a couple from Easton adopted her and that they’re from Osbury. I’ve discussed it with


    my assistant, and I’ll be flying there tonight.”


    Caroline checked the time. It should be night–time on Marietta’s side now.


    “When will your flightnd? I can pick you up.”


    “You don’t have to,” replied Marietta.


    “I’ll thank you properly once I manage to find my daughter.”


    Caroline smiled. “Okay. I’ll be waiting for good news.”


    “That’s all, I guess. I have to make preparations for something else.”


    “Okay.” Caroline ended the call just in time to see Kirk enter the room with a ss of water.


    She could sense the jealousy in his voice when he spoke. “Who called you? Why are you so


    happy?


    “It was Marietta.” Carolineughed.


    “What is it? Are you jealous of a woman?”


    Kirk froze. He had assumed that Eddy had called her.


    “Why is she calling you at this hour?” he asked.


    A smile spread across Caroline’s face. “She said that she had gotten some news about her daughter,


    who had been abducted years ago.


    “It turns out that a couple from Easton had adopted her daughter, so Marietta’sing here to find out


    more.”


    Seeing the frown on Kirk’s face, Caroline asked, “What’s wrong? Aren’t you happy for her?”


    Her question snapped Kirk out of his daze. “I’m happy for her, of course.”

    He continued, “But someone from the Morrison family appeared. He loves you a lot, and you love him


    too. Would you be with him?”


    “No!”

    She then added, “Because no matter what happens, and even if you hadn’t appeared, I still want to be


    with you.”
