“I can’t just leave you behind,” Jack protested. He stayed by her side, wanting to ensure her safety. He
wouldn’t run off without her.
“You don’t need to push yourself,” said Caroline through gritted teeth.
“There’s only the two of us now. As long as one of us escapes, the other will have a chance at being
saved.”

“Enough.” Releasing her grasp on his arm, Caroline dashed toward the two brutes and bit one of their
arms.
“Run!” She hollered, then bit on one of the men’s arms again.
The man yelled in pain and kicked her in the stomach, making her crash against the wall. The impact
was so great that she winced in agony.
She tried to bear the pain as she wrapped her arms around the man’s thigh.
It all happened in the blink of an eye. Fortunately, Caroline had informed Jack of what she was going to
do. So he darted through the door when he heard Caroline yell for him to run.
By the time the brutes reacted, Jack was already quite a distance away from them. One of them called
out, “Stop him! Don’t let him escape!”
Several bodyguards appeared before Jack soon after the brute finished his sentence.
Even though Jack had been drugged and his movement was sluggish, he was, after all, a long- term
champion in the UFC.
He shoved them away and quickly made his way to the car, leaving the three bodyguards far behind

Caroline rxed a little, seeing that Jack had managed to escape. Liam approached her, and she
sneered at him.
He pped her across the face. “And you still have the audacity to smile? Didn’t you say you wanted
Mackey Group in exchange for just 20 million dors? Take this!”
Liam raised his hand to p Caroline again, but one of the bodyguards interrupted him. “Mr. Mackey,
we have to go back and report to our boss.”
The arrogant look on his face disappeared when he heard that. “Fine, fine.”
Caroline furrowed her brows at Liam’s sudden change of behavior.
Someone else was behind this.
What was more, this person had quite the influence and power over others. This was the final thought

At SY Group’s headquarters in Easton, the bomb disposal squad was done taking apart the box.
“Sir.”
One of them passed it to Kirk and said, “This bomb is indeed a replica. The materials used to make its
shell are genuine, so it looks just like a real bomb.”
Charles walked over to see it for himself. “So, it’s really fake.”
He waved a hand in the air to dismiss the squad and said, “You may leave now.”
The men nodded and left.
When only he and Kirk were left, Charles asked, “Sir, why did Finn do this? Did he simply want to y
a prank on you?”

By now, Kirk’s gaze was thunderous. He stared at the fake bomb in silence. Suddenly, he got an
idea.
He sprang up from his seat and strode toward the door. Clueless as to what was going on, Charles
went after him.
“Sir, where are you going?”
Just then, Kirk’s phone started ringing. He fished out his phone from his pocket to see Jack’s name on
the screen. His gaze darkened even further.
“Speak.”
Hearing Kirk’s voice, Jack finally became less panicked.
Still, he couldn’t stop himself from feeling remorseful for not being able to ensure Caroline’s safety. In
the end, it was Caroline who protected him, not the other way around.
Eventually, when he opened his mouth to speak, his voice trembled ever so slightly. “Sir, the madam’s
been abducted!”
