    The doors opened just then, and Kirk entered the office. “You’re awake,” he said.


    “Where were you?” Caroline turned to stare at him, her eyes full of worry. Abruptly, she noticed


    her toothbrush and cup in his hands.


    Kirk smirked. “Why didn’t you sleep for a bit longer?”


    “It’s already 7 am. It’s about time for me to leave.”


    Kirk handed her the toothbrush and cup and kissed her on the lips. It was soft at first, but soon he


    deepened the kiss. She struggled to pull away for air.


    A momentter, he finally let go of her.


    Embarrassed, Caroline pounded her fists against his chest. “Are you starving or what?”


    “Yes, I am.” Kirkughed, which made her blush even further.


    She took the toothbrush and cup from him and rushed out of the office to freshen up.


    She came back shortly after that to see Kirk sitting in her chair and flipping through the contract.


    She wasn’t rmed, though. She simply let him carry on with what he was doing.


    All of a sudden, Kirk broke the silence. “Your office is too small. You don’t even have a ce to


    rest or sleep.”


    Caroline was munching on her breakfast when he spoke.

    “Things have been worse since thepany fell from grace back then.”


    She continued, “We’re lucky enough that it’s still here.”


    “So, you’re doing all this so that Evans Group can rise from the ashes, huh?”


    Putting her breakfast down, Caroline pursed her lips in thought.


    “Yes, I want to, but I know all too well that there is too great a difference between what the
