    Caroline smiled. “You’re so generous, Evan. Aren’t you worried that I might sh with Danie


    when I see her?”


    Evan narrowed his eyes, his gaze fixed on her red lips. “Don’t force me to silence you, Caroline.”


    She was rendered speechless. It was best for her to keep her mouth shut when dealing with a man


    driven by high testosterone.


    After he left, she made her way to her old desk.


    Her hand gently caressed the stationery she had used for the past three years. Memories of her hard


    work and dedication yed in her mind.


    Before Danie came into the picture, she had naively believed that she would be with Evan for a long


    time.


    Unfortunately, her childish fantasies were shattered by reality.


    She sniffled softly,posing herself. Then she left the desk and headed to the secretary’s office.


    However, just as she left, Danie appeared in the corridor.


    She knocked on Evan’s door, holding a bag in her hand


    Although her gaze was on the door, she kept a keen eye on the security camera hanging in the


    corridor.


    Realizing that the room was empty, she entered


    She knew Evan’s schedule like the back of her hand. That was why she chose toe today.


    Approaching the desk, she ced some snacks on it.


    Then, her eyes shifted toward the document cab on the side. She walked over while licking


    her lips out of anxiety.


    In the secretary’s office, Caroline’s presence stirred excitement among the younger secretaries, who


    eagerly chatted with her.


    They even vented their frustrations about the boss to her.


    Caroline responded to each one of them with a smile. Meanwhile, Ms. Walker and Ms. Fisher, who


    were not far away, rolled their eyes in annoyance.


    “Did you see how arrogant that bitch is? Acting like the office can’t function without her!” Ms. Walker


    remarked.

    Ms. Fisher was taken aback by Caroline’s return. “Is she actually back to work?!”


    “Shut up! How am I supposed to get promoted if she’s back?” Ms. Walker grumbled


    Ms. Fisher pouted. “Let’s be honest here, we’re just jealous of her. Jealous of herpetence and the


    fact that she gets to sleep with Mr. Jordan”


    Ms. Walker red at her angrily. “So now you’re suddenly enlightened? Aren’t you jealous too?”


    Ms. Fisher scoffed. During Caroline’s absence, she had seen things clearly. It was true that Caroline’s


    personal capabilities surpassed everyone else’s.


    She would never forget how chaotic the secretary’s office became in those two days that Caroline


    was gone.


    At 5 p.m., when Evan returned, he noticed a crowd gathered around Caroline. They were all observing


    her work.


    Seeing how engrossed she was in her tasks, he made his way to his office.


    Upon entering the room, he found Danie curled up on the couch, apparently resting Snacks


    were ced on his desk.


    Instinctively, he frowned. How long had she been lying there?


    He approached her and called out her name in his deep voice. “Danie.”


    He called three times before she slowly opened her eyes.


    Startled, she sat up when she saw him. “I’m sorry, Evan I


    “If you’re tired, go home,” Evan interrupted, looking away as he walked toward his desk. “Don’t


    wait for me.”


    Danie quickly grasped her phone from her pocket and stood up. She cautiously looked up at


    him and asked, “Are you going home for dinner?”


    He nced at her with a t expression. “No, I’ll have the driver take you home.”


    Sadness filled her eyes. “It’s alright, I’ll take a taxi.”


    His voice grew deeper. “It’s not safe…”


    Knock! Knock!


    A knock sounded at the door just as he spoke.


    Caroline entered the room after he gave her permission.

    She nced at Danie, who was holding a bag, before turning her attention to Evan. “I thought we


    were having dinner together?”

    He rejected her invitation because of Caroline?

    Once Danie was gone, Evan coldly questioned Caroline. “Did you do that on purpose?


    Caroline admitted proudly, “Yes, I’m delighted to see her being defeated. If it pains you, you can go

    “Caroline, would you believe me if I said there are no feelings between her and 17” Evan exined,


    his tone serious.


    “Don’t tell me you’re repaying her favor by giving her a status? And you’re keeping someone you


    actually like out there?” Caroline’s questions were sharp and direct.


    “I can only give her status and financial support. Nothing more,” Evan rified.


    “I don’t want to know the details of your rtionship! All I know is that she’s pregnant with your


    child!”


    Evan squinted at her mention of that. “Caroline, did youe to my room on the night of the


    annual dinner?”


    “What difference does it make? You slept with her anyway!” Caroline retorted.
