    Before Serenity got off work, she asked ra, the restaurant owner, “Could I take half a day off


    tomorrow, re? I’d like to visit my mother’s grave.”


    Although it was Memorial Day tomorrow which was, in fact, a national holiday, the restaurant would still


    be open, and it would definitely be even busier tomorrow since many people would have a lot of free

    she told her, “Okay, no problem. You can get the kitchen to prepare some dishes for you to take to your


    mother’s grave before you leave tomorrow.”


    “It’s fine,” Serenity replied, “Thanks. I’m going to prepare the fond myself.”


    She really looked forward to preparing some food to take with her to her mother’s grave. She had been


    very young when her mother died, but now, she was all grown up, and she even knew how to cook.


    She wished to let her mother see that.


    “I’m leaving, then,” Serenity said


    “Okay,” ra replied. She seemed to have something to say, but ultimately, she hesitated and decided


    against it. Since Serenity insisted that she was not that close with Lucas Gomez, it would be best not to


    involve her any further in this matter. ra would just have to go see Lucas herself.


    After leaving the restaurant, Serenity did not head straight back to Valor Residence. Instead, she took a


    detour to a supermarket to buy some groceries before riding the scooter to a tiny shop that sold


    supplies for visits to the grave.


    She went inside and said to the so-year-olddy sitting inside, “I’d like some incense, candles, and gold


    ingots, please, Mrs. Francesca.”


    Every year before Memorial Day, Serenity would alwayse to this same shop to buy these three


    things. Every year, that was, except those three years when she was in prison…


    “Is that you, Serenity? You’re going to visit your mother’s grave again tomorrow, aren’t you?”


    Mrs. Francesca grinned at Serenity, revealing her toothless mouth.


    “Yeah,” Serenity responded.


    Mrs. Francesca nced at the shopping bags in Serenity’s hands andmented, “You’re going to


    prepare lots of delicious food again, huh? You haven’t been here for the past two or three years. I was


    wondering if I’d see you this year.”


    “Well, I lots of things happened over the past few years, so I couldn’te here.”


    As Serenity spoke, Mrs. Francesca handed her the goods she hade to buy.


    “It’s been so many years since your mother died,” the old woman said. “She must already be resting in


    peace now since she’s got a perfect daughter like you,”


    “Perfect daughter? Serenity thought mockingly. How perfect of a daughter could she be when she


    could not even keep a photo album in perfect shape? And even now… there really was nothing she


    could do for her mother at all except to clean up her mother’s grave


    After saying goodbye to Mrs. Francesca, Serenity rode hier scooter back to Valur Residence. She had


    just entered the house and was walking through the living room to get to the kitchen so she could keep


    all the groceries in the fridge when she suddenly heard a cold voice asking her, “Why did youe


    home sote today?”


    “Ah!” Serenity yelped. The candles and incense in her hands fell to the ground.


    Then, the lights in the living room turned on, and she saw Jackson sitting on the sofa.


    “Why are you sitting in the living room with the lights off?” she asked.


    “Waiting for you,” he replied, then rose to his feet and walked up to her. “What about you? You haven’t


    answered my question.

    She pursed her red lips and told him, “I did some shopping after getting off work. I had to buy some


    groceries and other stuff to visit my mother’s grave tomorrow.”


    “Visit your mother’s grave…” His gaze fell on the incense and candles in her hands. “Ah, so tomorrow’s


    Memorial Day, huh? Too bad I can’t go with you tomorrow.”


    Serenity was somewhat startled. She had never thought of asking him to go with her to her mother’s


    grave, but his words reminded her that… His father had passed away too, so he was probably going to


    visit his father’s grave tomorrow.


    Between the both of them, one was going to visit her mother’s grave, while the other was going to visit
