Chapter 247
“Yeah, you''re right!” Lah took the beer over and began chugging it down.
Jonathan, too, helped himself to a can of beer.
The radio in the Beetle was ying a popr Ustranasian song at the time.
Since Jonathan and Lah were both incredibly fluent in Ustranasian, they had no issues
understanding the lyrics. Besides, music was capable of transcendingnguage barriers and cultural
differences anyway.
It was the ending song for The Twilight Saga titled Leave Out All The Rest.
“I dreamed I was missing. You were so scared, but no one would listen cause no one else cared.
After my dreaming, I woke with this fear.
What am I leaving when I''m done here?
So, if you''re asking me, I want you to know.
When my timees, forget the wrong that I''ve done.
Help me leave behind some reasons to be missed, and don''t resent me.
And when you''re feeling empty, keep me in your memory.
Leave out all the rest! Leave out all the rest!
”
Lah froze when she heard that, and her face was all covered in tears.
Upon seeing her reaction, Jonathan knew without a doubt that Gideon must''ve killed her father. That
must be why she''s in so much pain right now. I can understand the pain she''s going through. She hates
herself for being ignorant and helpless. She wants to get revenge but isn''t able to do so. Lance could
easily squash Gideon like a bug, but his status is pretty much on the same level as Divine Emperor!
We''re so weak that even someone like Frost could crush us with ease, so there''s no way we''d stand a
chance against Gideon. Besides, Lah won''t just be going against Gideon alone. She''ll have to fight
the entire Divine Realm if she chooses to seek revenge.
“Lah, I have a favorite quote that I''d like to share with you. Would you care to hear it?” Jonathan
asked.
Lah shot him a nce and said, “Go ahead.”
“No journey is too long for those who are willing to take the first step and keep pushing forward. I know
what''s bothering you even without you telling me. So what if you''re going against Gideon? So what if
Divine Realm is really powerful? If there''s a will, there''s a way! If we take things one step at a time, you
might just be able to avenge your parents and kill Gideon!” Jonathan paused and looked at her before
continuing, “Wallowing in pain and sadness won''t do you any good. If anything, it''ll only give you more
nightmares.”
There was a cold glint in Lah''s eyes as she clenched her fists and said, “Oh, I will get my revenge on
that b*stard even if I have to die in the process. I''m sad because I have wronged my deceased parents
with my foolishness all these years. I can''t believe I''ve been treating a bast*rd like a father this whole
time!”
“One who errs unknowingly need not be held responsible. I''m sure your parents won''t me you for
that,” Jonathan reassured her.
“Yeah, I suppose you''re right. I''ll drink to my heart''s content tonight and pick myself together tomorrow!”
Lah said with a nod after chugging down the rest of her beer.
Jonathan chuckled as he handed her another can of beer. “I''ll drink with you!”
“Look, this grudge of mine is between me and Gideon. I don''t want you to get involved in this, okay? If I
die going after Gideon, then so be it. You do not have to die along with me, is that clear?” Lah
reminded him after taking a few sips of her beer.
“Don''t worry. I know what I''m doing!” Jonathan replied with a faint smile.
He didn''t specify what he would do as he wasn''t sure how he would react if things got to that extent.
Having recalled something, Jonathan asked, “Wait, why did you testify for me if you have a grudge
against Gideon? Wouldn''t that give away your identity? That would surely make Gideon suspicious of
you, right? You could''vended yourself in deep water if Lance didn''t help out!”
“We are friends, after all. Besides, you saved my life once, so I couldn''t just sit around and watch you
die!” Lah replied after taking a sip of her beer.
“Thanks...” Jonathan mumbled in response as he sipped on his beer.
The two of them then carried on drinking without saying another word.
Eventually, Lah started getting drunk after having one too many beers.
Jonathan felt somewhat conflicted when he sensed the increasing sexual tension in the car.
On the one hand, he felt like he was cheating on his wife Catherine.
On the other hand, he felt bad for Lah as he couldn''t provide her with a future.
“Let''s head back,” Lah said coldly.
Jonathan grabbed her hand and asked, “What if I''m serious about this?”
Lah shot him a nce in response. “What do you mean? Are you going to marry me?” she asked
with a hint of sarcasm in her voice.
Jonathan fell silent when he heard that.
“Need I remind you that you''re married, Jonathan? Besides, you could be single and I still wouldn''t
marry you,” Lah added.
Jonathan lifted his head all of a sudden and looked Lah right in the eyes as he said, “I''m not
screwing around, Lah. Marriage and love are pointless traditions that mortals enjoy. I will not let them
bind me. Just remember that you''re my woman, so I will share your burden and face the consequences
together with you. You may rest assured that I am not kidding when I say this. You know full well I''m
capable of honoring my promise.”
Lah froze when she heard that. For the first time ever, there was a trace of warmth in that icy-cold
heart of hers. It wasn''t clear if she fell in love with him or simply felt touched by his words, but she
chose not toment on it.
“Let''s just get going.”
Jonathan nodded and started driving back to Sunny Condo.
“What do you n on doing next?” he asked along the way.
“Legend has it that Divine Emperor once went to a ce called ''Eara Gate.'' Having learned
everything about life and death, he gained an unimaginable amount of power after leaving the ce. I
n on checking it out to see if I can find anything useful,” Lah replied.
“I''ll go with you.”
“No, that won''t be necessary. I know your luck can ward off all sorts of disasters, but I want to do this
on my own.” Lah paused for a few seconds before continuing, “I''ve always been alone, Jonathan. It
wasn''t luck that got me this far in life. I''m capable of handling my own affairs, and I have the right to
decide what I want to do. I hope you will respect my decision.”
Jonathan could tell that Lah cared about him even though she was acting all cold and distant. He
also knew that she was really determined to do this on her own.
“All right. I respect your decision. However, there is one thing that I would like to make clear. It''s true
that my luck does help me a lot, but it''s merely one of my abilities. Luck isn''t all that I have, so please
do not attribute all of my sess to luck alone.”
Man, I hate it when people do that! It''s kind of like how people will always associate a rich kid''s sess
with his family. Nobody acknowledges the amount of effort he puts into achieving sess!
Lah couldn''t help but smile when she heard how childish he sounded.
Honestly, I''m really d to have Jonathan in my life. Who knows, maybe I''m quite lucky myself. My life
was dull and meaningless before he came into the picture. Had it not been for him, I''d just be
consumed by hatred and spend every single day trying to get my revenge. Jonathan''s existence is like
a ray of sunshine that lights up the darkness in my heart.
Of course, Lah kept those thoughts to herself as she was too shy to open up to him.
“By the way, what is this Eara Gate?” Jonathan asked curiously.
“I''m not too sure about the details. As far as I know, Eara Gate is located in one of the nes of
existence. You may think of it as a garbage dump in the Heavens,” Lah replied.
Jonathan frowned in confusion. “A garbage dump?”
“As you know, there are tons of lost souls and malicious spirits in this world. Because these beings
often hide in the dark, it''s easy for them to mutate and decay like garbage, which will affect the bnce
in the living world. Hence, Eara Gate was specifically designed to contain these beings. ording
to the rumors, it even has powerful enforcers in charge of capturing those beings,” Lah exined.
“How do you know this stuff?” Jonathan eximed in surprise.
“I''m a member of Divine Realm''s inner circle, remember? It''s only natural that I know a thing or two
about this stuff.”
“How does one enter Eara Gate?”
Lah shot him a nce and said, “You don''t need to know that.”
Jonathan fell silent in displeasure when he heard that.
Not wanting to keep the conversation going, Lah closed her eyes and stopped talking as well.
The sun was shining brightly by the time they returned to Sunny Condo in Divine Realm.
It was time for the members of Divine Realm to worship Divine Emperor, but Jonathan and Lah were
excused from the ritual because they weren''t in Divine Realm at that hour.
Only the members who were present in Divine Realm during the ritual were required to participate in it.
That was one of the rules that Jonathan appreciated very much.
Lah went straight into her room upon returning to Sunny Condo.
Jonathan was about to go to his room when Yuna came out. N?velDrama.Org owns all ? content.
“Where did you two gost night? You''ve been out until morning!” she asked with a casual smile on her
face.
