    At the beginning of the twenty-first century, nanotechnology was in its infancy. However, growth in the field was exponential, and advancements were being made rapidly. Over the next couple decades the discipline began to flourish, and its potential was being explored in a plethora of different fields. Concerns had been expressed over the potential dangers of nanotechnology gone awry. However, the scientific community dismissed such claims as hypotheticals with little scientific bearing. And as nanotechnology continued to progress, these hypotheticals seemed to remain just that.
