TLDR: This is a slow-burn isekai story about Emma, a 32-year-old computer programmer who is suddenly teleported to a medieval world with magic. Unlike typical isekai protagonists, Emma has no special powers - she arrives naked in a forest without understanding the local language. The story focuses on her journey of survival and discovery, with her programming background providing advantages that only emerge gradually. The narrative is told entirely from Emma's perspective, initially featuring mostly her internal thoughts as she struggles to communicate, but eventually featuring friends and allies. I aim to explore how magic would realistically impact medieval society's demographics, economics, and warfare. The protagonist is deliberately not overpowered, has no grand mission beyond survival, and must find her own path.Publishing occurs irregularly, averaging about 4,200 words weekly. I use AI assistance for writing but edit to maintain the story's integrity and character authenticity.Emma, a 32 year old computer programmer, is suddenly teleported to a different world, and has to somehow survive the circumstances of her arrival. To whit, she arrives stark naked in the middle of a massive forest without anything on her, not understanding the language spoken by anyone around, nor having any clue to indicate where she is. On the plus side, at least the trees look familiar. While this is an Isekai story, the protagonist is not a chosen one with godlike powers. Emma has advantages and disadvantages based on her life so far. The disadvantages will be immediately obvious, while the advantages will take a lot longer to bear fruit. I couldn't entirely avoid minor protagonist bonuses, but they're mainly there for narrative convenience. Emma has no illusions about her own heroic qualities, hence the anti-hero tag. When I say a lot longer, I mean it. This story should be considered slow burn. If you are here for quickly seeing a bunch of awesome magic, I'm sorry to dissapoint you. While magic has been used at this point of the story (800'ish pages), I don't think any of it has been more than utilitarian until the very latest chapters. It'll always be meant to be secondary to ongoing events, but it's a big part of what makes the world different so it will always be presentEmma is not meant to be OP, at the start, or anywhere during the story. The story is (deliberately) written from the perspective of a single character that isn't in control of what happens to her all the time. Emma is basically aimless beyond a wish to survive today and tomorrow (at least at this point of the story), she has some minor ambitions, but they're very localized and/or personal, no external force gives her a goal. She gets to decide her own actions, but she isn't at the center of events. In addition, for most of the first arc, Emma can't effectively communicate with anyone, so you'll spend it purely in her head. From arc two Emma has a voice, and more people to talk to.I have some intentions to make this into an exploration of how the existence of magic would affect an early medieval society, in terms of demographics, economics and warfare. We'll see how well that meshes with having a story that's actually fun to read though. There's no set schedule for new chapters. I attempt to write something when I can, and release a chapter when I reach a sufficient number of words. Really though, this often means nothing for several days/weeks only to suddenly write several thousand, or tens of thousands of words in a single week. History teaches that it comes to around 4200 words every week. If I could be bothered I guess that means I could release 1000 words a day, but the chapters work better as big blocks.I use AI to give me hints on where to improve my writing/grammar. In addition, some sentences might have been originally written by me, and then transformed into readable English by AI sensei. Sometimes (more often recently) it's the reverse. A sentence will be written by AI sensei and it's edited by me to not be utterly cheesy, or fit into the story/personality better, at some point I may need to switch the content warning on this. The aim is to make this entirely unnoticeable, so if you do notice let me know. A side effect of this is you never get extra chapters during a RR contest :)
