When Nichs called, Sophie was deeply engrossed in a research project at the medical association.
She felt no inclination to pick up the call when she saw the caller ID.

immediately headed outside.

“Okay. Just wait for me. I’ll be there soon.”
Sophie had been extremely busytely, and Wilma had been adept at concealing her state, which was
why she never realized that Wilma was facing some major issues.
As Sophie was about to leave, Simon and Sandra were preparing to leave as well. Simon called out.
“Sophie, where are you off to? We’re going out to eat. Would you like to join us?”

“Where are you going? We can give you a lift.”
“Sure.”
As Simon had driven there and it was difficult to hail a cab at this hour, Sophie epted the offer. She
shared the address with Simon and then retreated into silence for the duration of the drive.
Sandra asked, “Sophie, are you all right? Did something happen?”
“A friend of mine is in a bit of trouble. I’m going to check on her.”
