    Chapter 21 The Last Goodbye

Matilda''s condition was getting worse and worse.

She often got in aa while she was sitting, or arge stream of blood gushed out of her nose. She

was like a flower about to wither.

Seeing that, Aaron was angry and distressed, but ultimately he said nothing. He could only silently take

care of her and made her feel better as far as possible.

Matilda would babble on about many things to him, about Reba, about the child in her belly, but

    never a word about herself.

She was doomed to be out of the children''s future.

As always, Samuel was absent from home.

Most of the time, Matilda would sit on the balcony and look down from it to see the door of the family

yard. She was always the first one to see Samuel when he came back.

This day, Samuel made a phone call to Matilda for the first time.

“Get dinner ready.” He said and did not show the most basic concern to a pregnant woman, but she

    was ecstatic.

She hurried downstairs with her phone in her hand and stood in front of the fridge for a long time, not

knowing what to make for a while.

She could make a cake for him, but she did not know now if she got enough time.

    It was Samuel''s birthday.

In the car, Samuel hung up the phone and glimpsed the children''s clothes his just bought out of the

    corner of his eye.

He did not know what happened to him. After having dinner with customers, when he saw the

children''s clothes in the shopping mall, he stood there and bought them under the curious eyes of the

customer. And he made a call to Matilda saying that he would go back for dinner.

Thinking of the surprised voice on the phone, he was in a slightly better mood.

Well, it was just a meal. Don''t be afraid.

    Would she remember his birthday?

    Samuel looked down and thought.

At this time, there was a phone call. It was Samuel''s special assistant.

“Boss, there is something wrong with the United Staten branch of the project we are following recently.

The person in charge of them thinks that the people we sent could not express our respect to them, so

they have not been willing to sign.”

Samuel would pay close attention to this project for the next three years. No mistakes would be

allowed. Hearing that report from his assistant, he said, “Buy a ticket to fly in two hours. I personally will

fly to the United States to talk with their responsible person.”

    “All right.”

As soon as he said this, he felt a moment of regret because he promised to go back for dinner.

Staring at the familiar number, his finger hovered over the dial button for a long time, until he finally

shoved the phone into his pocket and drove deadpan toward the airport.

Didn''t it show he care much about her?

    He was not that cheap.

ck Mercedes disappeared in the next traffic light intersection, however, Samuel did not know --

    It was a farewell forever.

Matilda worked happily in the kitchen for a long time, frying the ck pepper steak for Samuel, his

favorite food, and putting the cake from the cake shop on the table. She even ordered a bunch of

daisies, which she carefully ced in a vase on the table, waiting quietly for the arrival of Samuel.

But when it was dark and the steak was cold, Samuel did note back.

She hesitantly clutched her fingers on her knees, wanting to call him but fearing she would bother him.

She could only keep telling herself that he was probably stuck in a traffic jam and Samuel must be on

    his way home.

He said he would be back for dinner.

The mood in her eyes waned, but after a moment she was surprised by the ringing of her cell phone.

She held her waist, eager to get up and reach for the phone that was lying on the sofa.

Reba said she wanted to go out to see the Christmas tree, so Aaron took her out. The maid was

fired by when Aaron came, and at this hour only Matilda was at home alone.

She stumbled forward a step with herrge belly, and suddenly fell to the ground, unconscious.

Her cell phone was still ringing one meter away, over and over again.

Aaron holding Reba stood in front of a popcorn shop and kept calling several time, but no one

answered. His eyebrows gently wrinkled up.

Reba held Aaron''s neck and cleverly asked, “Didn’t Mommy answer the phone? Does she want

    some popcorn?”

He took Reba out to y, and Matilda was to celebrate Samuel''s birthday, and he chose to go out.

They should be having dinner together by this time.

Aaron thought jealously. He hung up the phone when no one answered the phone, thinking that he

    should not disturb them.

But after a while, Aaron got more and more intense. He turned to Reba and said, “Reba, let''s

not eat popcorn now. Go back to see Mommy okay?”

Reba widened her eyes. She took a look at the popcorn machine and then reluctantly nodded.

“Well, it must be hard for Mommy to have a child. Let''s go see Mommy.”

Aaron holding Reba went back home. When he entered the house, he smelt the blood. He slowed

down his pace and carefully shouted the name of Matilda.

    Suddenly, Reba screamed out.

Aaron put her down. The junction between the sitting room and dining room was covered by dark red

blood, making porcin white tiles red. Matilda fainted in a pool of blood, unconscious.

“Matilda!” Aaron''s voice even changed. He picked up Matilda, who was covered in blood, and rushed to

    the door.

    ...

When Samuel stepped off the ne at 4 a.m. his heart gave a sudden contraction, leaving him

    breathless for a split second.

The pain took a long time to subside, but he remained in a daze for a while until the stewardess came

to remind him. He rubbed his swollen temple.

He thought he might be too tired recently and should have a good rest for a few days.

Then he got off the ne with his bag.

Only then did he realize that he had brought a set of bright yellow jumpsuits for children stuffed in his

    bag.

He flipped through the jumpsuits in surprise. Then he remembered that he had not called Matilda.

Thinking of the time difference between the two ces, Samuel smiled bitterly and finally gave up.

Anyway, it had been so long that it was not worth calling now.

He would go back after this project. It would not take long.

He had made up his mind that no matter what, he would have a frank talk with Matilda when he came

    home.

Before that, he needed to get things done at work.
