Chapter 61 Dont Be Afraid

    Chapter 61 Don''t Be Afraid

"Don''t be afraid. Just hold me tight."

The wind whistled in her ears, making her eardrums hurt. Despite this, she could still hear his gentle

voice like a warm current flowing into her heart. She shrank onto herself and held on to him tightly.

Once they were at the appropriate height, Henry pulled on the string to open the parachute on her

back. They went from terminal velocity to a gentle drop.

Only then did Luz dare to open her eyes. The panic in her heart had gradually subsided.

"Thank you foring to save me."

Over the past day, she had thought of him several times, but she never dared to let herself hope. She

was afraid that she would not be able to bear the disappointment.

However, he came. Just when she thought she was about to die, he appeared in front of her like an

    angel from heaven.

"Then how do you n to repay me?"

Henry''s voice was as light as the parachute. She didn''t know how to answer and how to repay him. Did

he really need her to repay him?

A gust of wind blew them off course, but she wasn''t worried. As long as they cannd safely, she was

    fine.

Although the speed of their fall had been slowed down considerably by the parachute, it was still pretty

fast. Henry tightened his grip on Luz and cushioned their fall with his body, rolling as they hit the ground

to negate as much of the impact as possible.

Luz felt his breath catch and be heavier as they rolled, which made her blush. The position of

their bodies was quitepromising, but when they finally reached the ground, she was relieved. She

    had escaped certain death.

Henry let go of her arm and struggled to sit up. "Take it off."

    "Oh."

Luz had never used a parachute before. She was so flustered that she didn''t know which sp was the

right one. After several minutes, she hadn''t separated from the parachute behind her.

    "Still as stupid as before."

Henry narrowed his eyes and stretched out his hand.

She rebuked him silently in her heart. She wasn''t stupid, she was just inexperienced with a parachute.

The belt that she had struggled with unbuckled without any fuss by Henry''s hand, but he suddenly

copsed on her shoulder, as if enveloping her in an embrace. Luz''s heart rate elerated again. She

didn''t know what to do with her hands. What is Henry doing?

    "Henry, you... I..."

She would admit that Henry''s appearance made her heart skip a beat, especially when he threw

    himself into danger for her.

    "We..."

She stammered for a long time, not knowing what to say. She let him hug her.

After holding him for two or three minutes, Luz realized that something was wrong. She quickly pushed

the man on her shoulder. She didn''t use much strength at all, but Henry fell backwards onto the

    ground.

    "Henry Maynard!"

    "Henry, what''s wrong with you?"

Seeing that his eyes were closed, she shouted in a panic. Only then did she see that the back of his

chest had been soaked in blood, and the white shirt was now a startling red.

"Henry, you''ve been shot! Don''t scare me." She remembered the gunshot she had heard earlier. It

wasn''t her imagination after all. He had taken a shot for her.

But during the wholending process, he didn''t make any sound of pain.

Her fingers trembled as she touched the wound. Her face was extremely pale, and her eyes were filled

with deep fear. She did not want Henry to die, and she did not want him to die saving her.

"I, I, I''ll take you to a doctor. Don''t be afraid, Henry. I''ll take you to the hospital. You''ll be fine."

Her voice was trembling as she looked around. They hadnded in a deserted area. There was nothing

around them, not even a single building, so clearly they were far from a hospital.

    "I''ll carry you."

Luz squatted down and tried to carry the unconscious Henry on her back, but her slender body couldn''t

carry a tall man. Her futile attempts did not help his wound at all.

"Stop tormenting me, I''m going to die."

The pain brought him back to consciousness again. Luz put him back down on the ground. Her eyes

were reddened as she asked in a trembling voice, "Henry, I can''t carry you, and there''s no one around

to help. There''s no hospitals or doctors here."

She suddenly felt that she was very useless. He could jump off the ne to save her, but she couldn''t

even carry him on her back.

"Have you forgotten what you are?"

It took a lot of energy for Henry to utter that sentence. He could feel the bullet agitating his wounds with

    every movement.

    "No, I can''t."

She seemed to be frightened by what he said. She kept waving her hands. She was a medical student,

that much was true, and she had taken an internship at a hospital before, but she hadn''t picked up

anything medical since seven years ago. She did not have the courage to pick up a scalpel now, much

    less operate on Henry.

"Don''t say that. Just do it."

He leaned down and pulled out a dagger from his boot that he kept for emergencies. The action made

him sweat profusely. They were in a secluded ce where no one would ever pass by, so if she didn''t

do anything, there was arge possibility that he would die here.

Luz''s face was ashen as she looked at the dagger in front of her, pupils contracted to a point. If she

made a mistake, Henry would die.

"Where''s your phone? I''ll call the emergency services."

She felt his clothes, but there was no phone on him.

"Do you really want to watch me die of exhaustion?"

Henry attempted to ask in jest with a raised eyebrow, but his voice was so soft and weak that it made

    Luz tear up.

"I don''t want you to die."

Tears fell from her eyes and dripped on her bloody hands. Even in the night where she hated Henry the

most, she had never thought of him dying.

"Don''t cry. I won''t die so easily. Do it... You can do it."

The weaker his voice became, the more frightened she was. She was a medical student, so she knew

that the longer the bullet stayed in his body, the more damage it would cause. She wiped her tears and

    grabbed the sharp dagger.

There was no professional scalpel here, a disinfected environment, nor any of the life-saving machines

in a hospital. She would have to do this caveman-style.

    "Don''t be afraid."

Henry didn''t even have the strength to open his eyes wide. He could only look at her trembling hands

and shaky dagger through narrowed eyes.

"I''m not afraid. I can do it. I''m not afraid."

Biting her lips to stop the tears froming out again, she tightened her grip on the dagger. He had

been shot on the left side of his back, where the organs were the most concentrated. There were also a

lot of nerves there, so she could let her knife slip. There was no margin for error here.
