Jareth’s stormy eyes suddenly sparkled as he rushed to Mari’s side, pulling her into a fierce
embrace. His voice trembled with the residue of fear, “I’m sorry. It’s my fault. I should’ve been there
sooner. You’ve been through so much; you’ve been hurt. I’m such a damn fool! Hit me, go on, hit me
hard!”
Everyone gasped in disbelief. Oh Lord! This wasn’t the ruthless Mr. Fairhaven they knew; this was a
man hopelessly in love!
What kind of magic did this girl possessed to bring the mighty Mr. Fairhaven to his knees?
“Jareth, why did you say those things about Aaron? Why?”
Mari’s autism made her more stubborn than most, and her insistence was unnerving, “Why did you
say that about Aaron? If it weren’t for him, I’d be dead! Aaron is my hero! Why would you say such
terrible things? Why?”

Jareth, who still held her close, his gentle voice soothing her, a bit chocked up, “Mari, you must have
been so scared back then, weren’t you? Terrified? I didn’t protect you.”

Lily watched, feeling distress for Mr. Fairhaven. Mrs. Fairhaven was finally able to be emotionally
steady, but due to this incident, she sensed a setback in her delicate condition after the ident.
With Mari’s relentless probing, Jareth didn’t dear to stir up her feelings anymore; he swallowed his
pain hard and pleaded in a hoarse voice, “Honey, promise me, you won’t look at any other man, just
me. ari, I’m the only one for you.”
After leaving the hospital, Aaron headed straight back to the station. Having dealt with the aftermath of
the case, he pulled up the records of Don and his daughter’s previousint, including the files of
the five bullies and all the statements.
The amount of information wasn’t overwhelming, but after reading through, Aaron was seething with
anger for a long time.
Then Evadne called.
“Evadne,” he tried to steady his breath.
“Aaron, how are you? You okay?”
Evadne’s anxious voice came through, “We saw the news about Elmsworth Academy of Fine Arts, and
we saw you on the scene in the video. Suri saw it too. She tried calling you, and when she heard that
Thaddeus and I were nearby, she asked us to check on you.”
“The perpetrator was caught on the spot. I’m fine, really.”/
“I don’t believe you. Come outside and let us see for ourselves.”
Evadne was stubborn, “We’re right outside the station, and we need to see you walk out intact before
we can report back to Suri!”
Aaron stepped outside the station and immediately spotted the luxurious Rolls–Royce parked across
the street.
He felt so awkward, ncing around to make sure no one was watching before he dashed into the car
like a thief.
“In the future, don’te find me in such a fancy car.”
Aaron couldn’t help butin as soon as he got in, “People who know us know you’re family, but
others might think I’m a corrupt cop on some tycoon’s payroll.”
Thaddeus allowed a small smile at Mr. Ashbourne’s vivid imagination.
“Aaron! You’re okay, thank goodness!”
Evadne lifted Aaron’s arms for Thaddeus to take photos with his phone, snapping shots from every
angle.
“Thaddeus, send them to Suri quickly.”
“Alright,” Thaddeus looked down and opened WhatsApp at once.
“Hey, hey, hey, you two sure know how to have fun.”
Aaron scoffed, “Do I need to strip down and let you take more pictures to send to my mom?”
Evadne hesitated, “Well, if you insist, I suppose I could oblige and take a few shots for you.”
Thaddeus‘ expression remained calm, “As a fellow man, I don’t mind either.”
Aaron was speechless at the couple in front of him.
“Aaron, we saw in the video that you carried a girl out. Was she the victim? How is she now?” Evadne,
always caring, couldn’t help but ask.
Aaron pressed his lips together, silent for a long moment before deciding to tell the truth, “That girl is
Mari.”
The couple was shocked, “Who?! Mari? Our Mari?!”
“Yeah.”
“Oh my God!” Evadne gasped, covering her mouth.
“Where is Mari now? How is she?!” Thaddeus also panicked, his handsome face turning pale.
“Don’t worry. Mari is fine, just some minor injuries and a scare.”
Aaron nced at his watch, trying to sound nonchnt, “By now, Jareth must have taken her back
home.”
Thaddeus was still not reassured, “Evadne and I will visit Jarethter to see Mari.”
Aaron’s eyes flickered, remembering the words Mari exchanged with Don, his expression darkening.
“Evadne, Thaddeus, there’s something I can’t handle myself. Could you do me a favor?”
