    Chapter 665

    Chapter 665

Arnold and Bet excused themselves and closed the door behind them, providing space for the

    conversation between Evadne and Chasel.

    “Chasel.” Evadne whispered his name.

In that moment, words failed her. Whether it was offeringfort or discussing her elder brother,

    nothing seemed appropriate.

A few seconds of silence passed between them, feeling like an eternity.

“Evadne. I’m so sorry.” Chasel couldn’t lift his gaze, droplets of sweat streaming down his chiseled

    cheeks.

Evadne shook her head, her voice a soft caress, “Chasel, you are not to me for any of this. There’s

no need for apologies. Liking someone isn’t a crime, not in the least.”

“It is my fault, all of it.”

Chasel’s head remained bowed, like a sinner scorned by thousands, his usual confidence washed

away. “Suri was right; I ruined Cassius. If only I had listened to her, none of this would have happened.

Evadne, I’m unforgivable. I’ve been selfish. But I wish I could be the only one to pay the price. I’d take

any suffering, any punishment. I don’t want Cassius to suffer. I wish we could go back to the start. But it

    seems toote now.”

Pain pricked Evadne’s heart; her voice caught in her throat.

Putting aside whether her brother was truly ruined or not, Chasel was crumbling to ruins.

“Just now, I reached out to my closest senior back home, who is also a renowned expert in neurology.

He’s meticulous in his work and a person of great integrity. For Chairman Emeric’s illness, you can

seek his help in the future. His expertise is no less than mine.”

Evadne’s eyes narrowed, her throat tightening, “And what about you, Chasel? What will you do?”

    “I’m going back home.”

Chasel said with a bitter smile. “This time, I probably won’te back.”

“How can that be! You can’t just leave like this. What about my brother?”

Evadne’s voice rose in anxiety as she grabbed his arm. “You care about my brother so much, don’t you

know how much you mean to him? Remember his first reaction when your rtionship was exposed?

He took all the me himself, terrified that you might be criticized or bullied. Even at the expense of his

own reputation, he is determined to protect you!”

Chasel slowly raised his head, his eyes meeting Evadne’s. A pain so deep that it felt bone–marrow

deep stirred a tempest in his heart.

“Don’t you get it? My brother was ready to risk everything to be with you.”

Evadne’s fingers tightened on his sleeve, crumpling the whiteb coat. “If you leave now, what does

that say about the love between you two? What is the point of my brother’s sacrifices? You faced the

world of hurt, risked being ostracized to be with my brother. Is this how it ends? Are you really okay

    with that?”

    “I’m not okay with it!”

Chasel finally broke down, tears streaming uncontrobly. “But what good is my dissatisfaction,

Evadne? Will the world ept us, will your father, your family? I could give up everything, but Cassius

can’t! He deserves to be the happiest man in the world. Otherwise, I would have rather we never met!”

“The only condition for my brother’s happiness now is one thing,” Evadne said, her eyes shining like

stars. “That is, for you to stay by his side, through thick and thin.”

The words “through thick and thin” made Chasel’s soul quake within his body.

He bowed and fell down to his knees slowly, his hands pressing against the cold floor, the veins on his

arms bulging, “I once told Cassius I don’t care about being in the shadows or being his lover unseen by

the world. Formalities don’t matter, titles don’t matter. As long as I can be with him, nothing else

    matters.”

“But it’s different now, your love is out in the open.”

Evadne squatted down in front of him, tilting her head to seek his face, her eyes curving into crescent

moons. “Now that it’s in the light, so no more ‘secret lover.‘ How about I call you ‘sister–inw‘? What

    do you think of that?”

Chasel suddenly looked up, his face flushing red, “I, I’m a man!”

“I’m not blind; I can see that,” Evadne chuckled. “But as my brother’s partner, It’s either you or no one

else. So, my ‘sister–inw‘ can only be you.”

Evadne wrapped her arms around him, her warm palms patting his back, “Let all the unhappiness go

away, Chasel. Let it all go.”

Chasel bit his lip hard, trying to hold back, but the tears kept flowing.

    “Evadne?”

Thaddeus‘ low voice came from outside the door.

Evadneforted Chasel for a moment before getting up to open the door.

“What’s up, Thaddeus?” The couple instinctively drew close, their hands entwined.

Thaddeus peeked into the room before wrapping his arm around her waist, lowering his voice, “The

Brights have arrived. Their car just pulled into the hospital’s underground parking lot.”N?velDrama.Org is the owner.
