    A chorus of suppressed snickers echoed from the gathering of journalists.


    Malicious joy, ill–intent, ridicule, contempt, hatred, each piercing gaze that scrutinized Myra brought a


    wave of anguish, like maggots gnawing at her very soul, a thousand ants eating at her heart.


    “Mom, don’t be scared I’ll protect you!”


    Nydia held her mother tightly, shielding her beneath her own body, staring down the malicious eyes one


    by one!


    The usually timid and cautious girl now radiated with determination and strength, without a trace of fear.


    “I won’t let anyone hurt you, never!”


    “Myra, I’m alright. I’m alright,” Myra mumbled, shaking her head in a daze, her once clear eyes now


    clouded and confused.


    As Nydia watched, the tears she’d been trying to hold back finally fell, clustering in her mother’s hair.


    “What did you say? Say that again!” Aviana pointed at the male reporter’s face, her face flushed with


    anger, on the verge of losing her temper.


    “Aviana, this issue has nothing to do with you. Do you really need to get so worked up?” another


    reporter scoffed.


    Suri’s eyebrows knitted together. She saw through their game.


    These reporters were clearly sent to cause trouble!


    “Why shouldn’t I be pissed off? Myra is my family, and insulting her is the same as insulting me!”


    Aviana retorted, her chest heaving with fury, wishing she could snap the reporter’s ribs one by one!


    “Family? In front of the media, you guys indeed look like a loving family, but who knows what happens


    behind the scenes?”


    The reporter smirked knowingly. “Oh Aviana, we journalists have seen enough of families like yours.


    Which woman doesn’t get jealous? If they had the choice, who would want to share a husband?”


    Aviana was about to retort, but Suri covered her mouth in time!

    member’s character, tarnish her reputation. Don’t think that just because you’re a journalist, you can

    knock some sense into you, and show everyone who harbors ill–intent what the consequences of


    spreading false usations and twisting the truth are!”

    her gaze piercing.


    The man’s confidence wavered, his previously self–assured expression softened.

    actions. The K Group’s legal department will be expecting you.”

    Just then, a gasp erupted from the crowd!

    crowd, startling everyone!


    In the midst of chaos, he leapt up, wielding a crowbar and aimed straight at Myra’s head!


    “Ah! Watch out!” Nydia cried out, her heart skipping a beat.


    The bodyguards were well–trained, but this man was no pushover either. His movements were swift


    and his target clear. They didn’t even have time to react!


    But, Evadne was the first to respond. Just as the man was about to strike, she spun around and


    shielded Myra with her own body.


    Suri and Aviana both screamed, “Evadne!”


    Panic set in and Evadne mped her eyes shut, preparing for the worst.


    Crash.


    “Ugh!”

    Instead, a familiar gasp echoed in Evadne’s ear, making her heart pound.

    It was Thaddeus!


    Slowly, Evadne turned her head. Her eyes were bright red and moist.

    forming in her throat.

    out his name, Thaddeus!”


    The thug who tried to attack Myra was immediately apprehended by the Ashbourne Group and handed


    over to the authorities by Aaron.


    Before the man was shoved into the police car, Evadne, with tears streaming down her face, tried to


    lash out at the man!


    Aaron held her back, whispering words offort and reassurance, “Evadne! Leave it to Aaron. Don’t

    Evadne was visibly distraught, struggling in Aaron’s arms, still wanting to attack the man.


    Cassius and Arnold arrived to see the scene, both of them taken aback.


    In their memory, their little sister was alwaysposed, fiery yet calm. They had never seen her this


    emotional.


    The thug was handcuffed and ced in the police car. As the car drove off, he stuck his head out of the


    window, giving Evadne a sinister smile.


    “Aaron! You must not let him off. You absolutely cannot!” Evadne’s voice was filled with pain and rage.


    “Don’t worry, Evadne.” Aaron nodded sternly and followed the police car.


    Left alone in the cold wind, Evadne trembled slightly.


    “Evadne.”


    Cassius walked over and put an arm around her, pulling her into a hug, Thaddeus has been taken to


    the nearest hospital under the Ashbourne Group. Dad is already on his way there and he’ll arrange for


    the best doctors to treat him. He’ll be fine.”


    “Yeah, Evadne.”


    Arnold tried tofort her as well, “That guy’s a former soldier. He’s tough as nails. He can take a hit.”

    Evadne took a deep breath and pulled away from her brother’s embrace, “I’m going to the hospital. If


    anything dangerous happens to Thaddeus, I want that man’s head!”


    As they watched their sister’s retreating figure, the two brothers sighed.


    “Cassius, did I say something wrong?” Arnold asked sheepishly.


    “Yes. Thaddeus did save Evadne, and he’s in a critical condition now. You shouldn’t have joked about


    it.” Cassius answered seriously.


    “I know, I know. I didn’t mean any harm.”


    Arnold was full of regret, his mouth agape in dismay, “Cassius, you have to help me. I’m scared of


    Evadne being mad at me!”


    “Don’t worry. Evadne won’t hold a grudge.”


    Cassius gave him a serious look, patting his shoulder, “But remember, don’t make fun of Thaddeus in


    front of Evadne. Watch your


    words.”


    Arnold nodded, his heart heavy with mixed feelings.


    Meanwhile, at the K Orld Hotel’s second floor.


    Avery stood by the railing, looking down at the frantic figures of Emeric and Hamilton. Behind the


    reflection in his sses, his eyes were filled with a cold, threatening glint.


    “Mr Chambers.”


    His secretary approached him, leaning in to whisper, “I’ve heard that Ms. Evadne was nearly attacked


    in the parking lot while protecting Myra. Thaddeus appeared out of nowhere, taking the blow with his


    head.”


    Avery frowned.


    “His head? My god, he’s really got some guts. Did he have some sort of special training?” The


    secretary was terrified just thinking about it.


    “Speak when spoken to, and shut up when you’re not!” Avery snapped coldly.


    The secretary froze, his lips sealed tight.


    “And then? Did he die on the spot?” Avery asked, his voice icy.


    “No, but he’s in aa. He’s badly injured.”


    “And where is Ms. Evadne?”


    The secretary swallowed nervously, “Ms. Evadne went with him to the hospital.”


    “Good, very good.”


    Avery suddenlyughed, a chilling sound that echoed through the room. His eyes were bloodshot, as if


    a wild beast was about to break free.


    “I do love it when someone tries to y tough with me, Thaddeus. For Evadne, you really can go all


    out, constantly ying the victim to win her sympathy, huh? Enjoy your moment of victory, because


    soon, I will wipe out all your efforts. As long as I live, you will never win back Evadne’s heart!”


    Thaddeus was rushed into the emergency room of Ashbourne Hospital.


    Emeric and Cassius personally helped Hamilton, with a group of subordinates hastily rushing to the


    hospital.
