Chapter Three

“The truth cannot be learned, it must be found.” - Averick Tellings

    Chapter Three:

Today, I woke up and felt happy. Thus, I decided that the genesis of my change will start with reading. I poked my head below the bed and stared at the leg of the bed on the left most corner. On it were etched words that I have never before seen on the leg of the bed. New words. I squinted my eyes and read the new sentence, one letter at a time:

    D O - N O T - R E F R A I N - F R O M - S E E K I N G - T H E - T R U T H.

‘The truth? What truth? That The Book knows all and The Room holds all? That is the only truth I know. Hmm… For now I’ll eat breakfast, and then I’ll check The Book.’ I thought.

I slowly stumbled up to the fridge and opened it to find a large yellow yoke, frozen within a bag, and beside it a grossly misshapen slab of meat. I grabbed the two and ate them slowly, to savor the flavor. The meat tasted dry.

After consuming my meal, I threw the dishes into the sink, where they would automatically be clean by tomorrow.

I then picked up my pillow from upon my bed and snagged The Book from underneath it.

After shuffling through the pages a little, I finally managed to find the page with the word “truth”.

The Book said: the quality or state of being true.

‘Yet what does it directly mean, to be in the quality or state of being true? Does it mean that one must reach a certain quality of heart, before they reach the level of “being true”? Or must they attain a state of mind so clear of distractions, that all that they know is then “being true”? No, I think such things are incorrect! The real meaning of “being true” is that of denying all causes and acts that could possibly lead or be related to in smallest of ways, to “the lie”. That must be the meaning of “truth”! And thus now I know what the new carving on the leg of the bed meant. I must not hinder myself from denying “the lie”! That thing, in whatever form it inhabits, cannot be detained nor destroyed. Only utter denial could reject the concept.’ I thought giddily.

Feeling satisfied with myself, I placed The Book back under my pillow and went to sleep for the day.
