    Her Mom''s Doubt

    Zoe’s POV

“ARE you sure about this, Zoe?”

“Mom…” As I was fixing my clothes inside the small luggage, I looked at my mother, “—it has to.”

“But there must be a reason why Helios treats you like that. Let his head cool off. You can’t just act

like you wanted to be just because of Helios’s cold treatment. You have to respect him.”

I sighed as I sat on the edge of my small bed. “You don’t understand—”

“Zoe, I didn’t teach you to hold a grudge or to give up that easily. It came from you that he proposed

marriage, but you declined it because of the unrequited love.”

Mom walked towards me and sat on my side. She reached for my hand and pressed it gently.

“Helios is a man. Sometimes, when ites to love, men choose to be straightforward. Some got

cowardly. However, Helios is different. He’s honest. It takes time for a man to take courage in

confessing, yet he took the risk.”

I shook my head. “Then he could also understand my feeling, mom.”

“This is all about lowering your pride. Helios was hurt, sweetie. What do you expect? Hmm?”

Mom looked intently into my eyes, making me heave a sigh.

“He’s trying to gain back the risks he gave. You just shed his ego when you rejected his

confession, Zoe. What if it happened to you? What will be your reaction?”

Silence filled in the atmosphere after hearing my mom’sst words.

“It would not be that easy too, right?”

I sighed again. I know I was wrong, and I owe him an apology.

“You have to take and see the bigger picture, Zoe. Helios didn’t do anything to you; he’s just being

honest with his feelings. And you knew whose fault it is.”

“But mom, he’s treating me indifferently.”

“Talk about it and bear with it. You must know that there’s always a consequence to every action we

make. Look at me, I love gambling, spend some of my savings, got tons of debts to a wealthy and

dangerous family, leaving me with no choice, making me think of selling my daughter… look what

    happened?”

I pressed my lips and sighed again.

“I am lucky enough that Helios saved you.”

    “He bought me, mom.”

“Not exactly, sweetie. He did it to save you… us. And he even offers you a job, and so am I. Don’t

you think we’re lucky enough that someone came into our life to bring good deeds?”

“Fine. I will talk to him and apologize. But mom, I can’t live with him under the same roof. It’s… it’s

    awk—”

“Well, if I know, you two already do that thing, right?” she asked, emphasizing the word ‘thing,’

which I knew what she was talking about.

I frowned. “You don’t have to mention—”

    “Is it big?”

    “Mom!” My eyes widened.

Mom burst intoughter as she stood up. “God, sweetie… I know that kind of reaction,” she said in

    between.

I red at her, making her stop. She raised her hand and said, “Fine; I’ll stop. Anyway, fix your

things back and let’s go party tonight,” she said and exited my room.

I shook my head and continued putting back my clothes in my cab.

    Great!

I decided to dial Helios’s number at three o’clock in the afternoon.

    Phone?

Damn, I don’t have one. It’s Helios’s. Guess I owe him big time.

In just three rings, he picked up.

Silence filled in between us for seconds before I decided to crack it.

“Hello…” I bit my lower lip. I heard him give a faint “mm,” and silence evaded once again.

    I sighed. “Can we talk?”

“We’re talking already,” he said, making me curse silently.

    Patience, Zoe. Have patience.

“I mean in person. I need to discuss things with you.”

“I’m busy. Bye.” And he hung up the phone.

    Wow! Just wow!

    How rude is he?

Is that the effect of rejections to Helios Lincoln?

Fine! If that’s what he wants, then be it. But he won’t stop me from what I’m going to do. I know it

was my fault, but I am trying to fix things up. However, he’s about to ruin it.

Eight in the evening when we left the house as my mom wanted us to chill. It’s her day off anyway.

“Mom? Why are we here?” I asked in confusion when the cab stopped in front of Helios’s bar.

My mother looked at me and formed a sly smirk on her lips. “Come on, sweetie. It’s no big deal.

Besides, Helios doesn’te here on weekdays.”

“That wasn’t you sure about, mom. What if he was there?”

Mom rolled her eyes at me as she got off the cab. “Then… it would be better. You need to talk to

    him, right?”

    “Huh?”

Mom shook her head as she pulled me out of the cab. “Come on, sweetie. You don’t have anything

to be afraid of. It’s not that you stole millions or so,” she teased, making me frown.

    “That’s not the point, mom—”

“Oh, don’t me, sweetie. I heard you—identally, on the phone earlier. Saying, you want to talk to

    him personally, right?”

    “Eavesdropping is ain’t good, mom.”

My mom winked at me. “It’s no big deal, sweetie. So, let’s go. Let’s taste the Sex On The Beach.”

My forehead creased. “Are you being serious, mom?”

“What? That’s what they called it, and it’s a hard drink. You better try it.”

“Oh no. No hard drinks for me, mom. I will not let you.”

Mom encircled her arm into mine and chuckled. “Silly, you’re old enough. Besides, there were

private rooms upstairs. If we can’t make it, then we will rent one,” she said.

“No way!” Iined. “Mom, there’s no way we would do that—that I would do that. I will just

watch you drink then.” Material ? N?velDrama.Org.

“Silly girl. Come on. Stop stressing yourself. You’re giving me doubt.”

    I frowned. “Doubt with?”

Mom stopped walking and looked at me. “That you like Helios, but you’re just being IN DENIAL,”

    she said, rendering me speechless.
