《Echoes of Daria》 The One Who Is Fated to Die Act One: Prison Planet Daria is one of the biggest planets, housing 21 billion inhabitants. Without reaching its full potential, its lands are divided into two: 85% of it is full of life, and the last 15% in the far west is called the Great Waste, where even the grass won''t bloom. The whole planet welcomed a new era where mana seeped into every living being; the animals started to awaken and evolve and became bigger and more powerful. As for humans, they didn¡¯t manage to awaken, so the animals became a real threat to humanity. They started to march toward human cities and wreak havoc on them. At first, the normal weapons worked on them, but soon even weapons became defective. This is where the Phoenix Corporation was launched. The new chips that were important in awakening the cells were launched; they were important to awaken the cells that lay dormant in the human body and push them forward to become awakened with superpowers. These chips were a luxury at first, and only a few used them, but after a few more experiments, trials, and errors, they evolved and became more advanced. The Tetra chips, which were a luxury at first, became a necessity for the survival of humankind. This great evolution brought great vitality to the world itself In the far east of Daria lies a city, the last city before dawn: the great waste. Sunset City is a great city with a population of 40 million people spanning around 800,000 square kilometers (308,881 square miles) and where the last citadel of the Fortress lies. The citadel of Dawnbreakers is stationed in the middle of the city, a great tower of a building that penetrates the cloud. Ever watching the whole city, keeping the peace. Surrounded by skyscrapers from all around, above them all. The whole city is partly surrounded by a great forest that, to this day, remains unexplored because in it exist great monsters that demand mighty ranks of awakened to face them. This forest is one of the great financial supports of this city, where the awakened go and haunt animals and planets that have evolved. and sell them to the factories for a fortune. These items are used in the new bio product line of merch that came from the streamline after the great evolution. So, the city needs to maintain the forest and control it daily. Most of the lower city is surrounded by a great wall to keep anything from the forest out. These walls are manned 24/7 to keep watch over anything that wants to enter the city. There are only a few parts of the forest open where the awakened enter and leave; these parts are called the new parks, which are better and get visited by anyone who wants fresh air. In the forest''s depths at the west of Sunset city, men searched every nook and cranny while shouting, "Where did he go?" "Dammit, the boss will skin us alive if we don''t find him." "Come here, little boy; we won''t hurt Baha forgave you." Meanwhile, up the tree, camouflaged with a sheet of leaves colored the same color as the tree, A 7-year-old named Luden is hiding. To describe the boy''s appearance as miserable is an understatement because many of his body parts are missing, including a hand and an eye. Half of his body is black with gangrene he got when his left hand was cut off; it''s eating him alive, and he knows he does not have much longer to live in his Condition. The boy takes a hard breath and can feel his lungs burning, but he doesn''t want to be loud. He looks down and watches every moment of the people below. With fear in his eyes, he holds a round box in his right hand, holding a chip that he knows has the only path for him to live. These are new chips that humanity invented 400 years ago, which were used to wake their sleeping cells and awaken their powers. The boy knows that only by awakening can he cure himself; only by using this chip can he have a future and keep the many promises that he made in life. He doesn''t know if he has time to use the chip while these people are chasing him. he waits until they go away enough; Luden Slowly opens the box and takes the chip out. Once it is on his hand, he studies it and reads Tetra testing chips (not recommended for permanent use, only for 3 days). Still, the boy doesn''t read human language yet. The boy does the chip installation as instructed in the video he has seen, puts it on his palm, and waits, but nothing happens. He repeats the same thing repeatedly and starts to lose his mind. "This is my only chance. It can''t be. You didn''t even give me a real chip after all that effort I had to make. Please work." Then he hears a voice that he started hearing him for a year. "It''s no use, boy. I have already taken its Origin power. Now I will finally am awake but as a gift for you." The boy comes back to his senses and starts to feel a vibration in his back. He reaches out and takes his bag out, realizing the vibration is something from the rubber-coated box he has used as a pillow for years. Soon, the box clicks and opens from the middle. Luden finds a square device inside of it. Once Luden takes it out, it starts to open, folds slowly, and soon turns into a spine-shaped device. Confused, the boy starts studying it and soon finds pictures of people putting the device on his back. The boy takes his shirt off, and as soon as he brings the device to his back, it automatically attaches to his back, and soon he starts to hear and see things. Looks up at his arm, his missing eyes, his tissue of death is all because of these people who won''t let him live. He remembers how they blinded his eye, cut away his arm, caged him for more than a year, used him as a tool to explore ruins for them, and when he was about to die, they threw him away, yet they still came back after they found a new use for him." Soon, only the ones in the area were the men who started to feel something was wrong. They looked around in panic and searched for anything that affected them. Soon, they all looked up only to see a black mass above them. When they stared at the mass, they felt that all the happiness in the world was gone. They feel a deep sense of dread and despair as they realize the magnitude of the situation. "What the hell is that thing?" "Boss, what should we do?" "How the hell would I know?" Baha screamed Soon, they heard a gasp and looked at their colleague, who started to point at the black mass and scream, It''s the boy! He is the one who is doing this! The boys'' story starts in the lower slums at an orphanage run by the city''s local government. A run-down orphanage operated by a man and two women found a loophole by exploiting these children for funds. They took most of the funds and left enough to feed 20 children at all times. Today, a homeless man came to the orphanage holding a bag. He knocked on the door five times, but no one opened it. Finally, he started to use force until the door opened, and he was greeted by a man with glasses and short black hair wearing a suit. "Enough with the knocking, you useless bum. This is an orphanage. We don''t have enough money to feed the kids as it is, so go bother someone else," the man yells and tries to shut the door. But the homeless man holds it. "I know this is an orphanage, so I came." The homeless man yells while holding the bag and shoves it at the other man''s hand. "Isn''t your job to take care of kids? I found this one in the dumpster, so take care of it," and walked off without caring anymore. The other men were horrified by the bag because it was fully sealed, with no way to breathe inside. He opens it quickly and looks inside; sure enough, a baby is inside. He looks around, finds a crowd of people looking at him, takes the bag, and goes inside. He opens the bag fully, thinking the baby is dead, but suddenly, once he takes the baby out of the bag, he notices it''s breathing. The man, astonished, hurriedly called the other 2 women, and they all gathered to decide the baby''s fate. Soon the 3 people who run the orphange gather around the baby "What are we going to do?" asks the man. One of the women says, "What do you mean by that qustion? We don''t have enough funds for this one. So throw him, of course." "Why is he so peaceful, though? Is he dead?" the other woman asks "The one who threw him fed him enough drugs to make sure he stayed out of it for days. He is alive, alright; I checked. But one thing is for sure, they didn''t know he was alive," the man added. "Feeding drugs to a baby, is he even going to wake up? But we could blame the bum for bringing us a dead baby," one of the women added. The other woman says, "People saw that bum handing us a baby. So we can''t throw him; killing is not an option because the vindicators will know." "Do you have to throw him without anyone seeing you?" "Yes, we will just say the baby was dead when the homeless brought him," the man answers lastly. I will get rid of him; don''t worry." "Remember, you can''t kill him yourself," the woman added. "I know I''m not that stupid. I will just throw the baby; I won''t get marked by a Vindicator for it," the man said with a serious face. The woman nodded in agreement, relieved that the man understood the consequences. "Just make sure it''s done discreetly," she warned. The man nodded with a determined look as he prepared to take action. The man waited until it was dark enough outside, gathered the baby in the same bag it came in, and slowly made his way outside the walls. He looked around him every so often, making sure no one noticed him with the bag. Once near the wall, he reached the gates that led outside. Once he was in front of the door, the guards yelled halt. A guard with a stern face and a blue and white uniform with a big castle logo on its chest approached him. "You can''t leave the gate without permission. Or be an adventure. What brings you here?" One of the guards asks. The orphanage''s director starts sweating and nervously explains, "I''m the director of the orphanage of the East Slums. I''m here on a mission to urgently buy a black bear kidney from one of the adventurers outside one of the stalls to cure one of the children with a high fever." "A black bear kidney for one of the orphans, you say? Are you trying to pull my leg? Since when do orphanages give such expensive items to one of the orphans? Leave immediately, or I will punish you." This book''s true home is on another platform. Check it out there for the real experience. The doctor hurriedly added, "It''s for one of the kids who tested positive for a light attribute." The guards ask, " so let me clearify. You are telling me one of the kids who has a chance to become an oracle who controls the light in an orphanage is sick?" with a questioning face. "Yes, sir. I swear." Okay, it''s your funeral anyway. I don''t have to warn you to never leave deep into the forest. We don''t always have the perimeter secured." "Yes, thank you, sir. Thank you," the director says, trying to thank the guard. He starts moving to the 16-meter door and marvels at its size and width, watching the flux of adventure in and out. Each one has a crest of an adventure on his chest. Making his way outside the gate, he started moving toward the forest. The director knew this route very well, as he had traveled it before. After 15 minutes of walking deep into the forest, he takes out the still, unconscious baby and puts him down. He slowly backs off. But once he is 2 meters away, the baby somehow wakes up and starts crying, screaming loud enough to be heard for a mile. The director is dumbstruck by what is happening to the baby. He runs as fast as he can before the voice attracts something bad and makes his way back to where he came from. As he runs, the director can''t shake the feeling of unease, wondering what could have caused the baby to suddenly wake up and cry. The baby''s cries echoing through the forest only add to his sense of urgency as he hurries back to safety. That day, some forest adventurers swore they heard a baby crying in the forest, which sent chills down their spines. In their imagination, they thought a monster was mimicking a crying baby to lure them near it to eat them. There is no way in hell in their imagination that a baby will end up in the forest here. The eerie thought of a potential danger lurking in the forest sends shivers down their spines as they quicken their pace to get out of the area. The unsettling feeling of unease stays with them long after they have left the forest, leaving them with a lingering sense of dread. The baby''s crying went on for half an hour. Soon, a herd of wolves larger than 3 meters each made its way through the forest near the sound. Once they got near the sound, they were greeted by the sight of a human cub crying alone. A pack of brown wolves, each spanning 2-3 meters, surrounds the baby. The alpha is a great wolf taller than 4 meters with muted grey fur. He has a big scar on his face, a shiny green eye, and jagged teeth that are each a foot tall. He approached the baby with saliva running down his face. His name is Grey in the pack. The wolves sniffed the baby curiously, their eyes filled with interest and concern. Grey, the alpha, said, "One of these foul creatures, cubs, somehow made its way into our territory. I can''t stand them and their smell. I''m going to sink my teeth into it until it stops this horrible sound." Once Grey is close enough to the baby, he opens the big bag slowly. But soon enough, something changes in Grey''s eye once he is close enough to the baby. "This smell. His smell is not horrible at all. Was it abandoned because it didn''t smell like them?" Grey thinks, feeling a sudden pang of empathy towards the abandoned cub. Despite his initial instinct to attack, Grey''s curiosity about the cub''s origins and circumstances begins to outweigh his concern for territory. "I. I can''t kill it. I mustn''t. Sigh..." Grey finally decided. "cub that was abandoned by its pack." Gray stands there for a minute, thinking about what to do. Finally, he has an idea. "Will Tasha like it?" Grey thought "Well?" Suddenly, the other wolves asked. "What is it, Grey?" "It''s a human cub that was abandoned. I''m taking it as my son," Grey proudly declares, head high. "I see. It is an abandoned cub of these foul humans, and you wish to adopt it as your son... WAIT, WHAT? The other wolves yell, "Grey, have you gone mad at a human?" All the other wolves chip in. Soon, a wolf named Fang approaches Grey. "Grey, I supported every decision you have made, no matter how stupid. But this?" Grey looks at Fang. "I''m very thankful for that old friend, but this one is different. He doesn''t smell like the other humans. I don''t know how to put it. He is very different from the other humans." Fang gets angry and barks, "Smell! What does Smell have to do with anything? What do you mean he''s different? A human is a human. Once grown enough, he will corrupt this forest and slowly take away its life for his selfish desire." Fang finally adds while Start gets agitated and mad at Grey''s decision. Grey gets frustrated. "I don''t know how to explain it, Fang. Just smell him, and you will know." Fang approaches Grey and looks at him sternly. "I think you have become muddleheaded, my friend." "I''m not. Just approach the baby," Grey urges. Finally, one of the other wolves with one ear missing approaches the baby. "Fine, I will do it. Since Fang hates human smell that much." Once the wolf gets close enough, something changes in its eyes, too. "Hmm, he does smell pleasant and weird. You know what? I don''t hate this one, Fang. I support you," the wolf added. "Thank you, Dakna," Grey added while feeling proud. "You two Dakna? What is wrong with you guys?" Fang starts to question reality. Soon, all the other wolves expect Fang to approach the baby, and they all have the same opinion: they like him. Finally, Fang caves in and approaches the baby; soon, something inside him changes, too. "Sniff. Hmmm, what a weird human cub. Is that why it was abandoned?" thinks Fang. "Sigh. Fine, do whatever you want, old friends. Besides, you and Tasha haven''t had a cub until now; you deserve this one. Fang''s heart softened as he watched the baby human, feeling a sense of protectiveness towards him. He realizes that maybe this little cub was meant to be a part of their pack after all. This starts a new journey for the abandoned baby by becoming a part of the pack. Chapter 3: Welcome to the Pack Grey approaches the baby and notices that he has long been asleep. Grey begins to sniff the baby. "The cub has been drugged and put to sleep by these vile creatures," Grey cried. Fangs looks over and says, "Then how could he be crying if he was asleep?" Grey ponders a little and finds no answer. "I don''t know; something is very weird about him." Fang rolls his eyes at him and adds, "Of course, something is weird; everything is weird about this cub." Grey sighs and says, "Anyway, let''s move along. I don''t know if a human is nearby, but it''s better to get moving to where the pack is. Let''s go." He carries the baby with his mouth and starts running toward the wolf den with the other wolves. The pack moved along the forest, far deep into it, to parts where humans would never set foot on it. Soon, they reach a clearing surrounded by big rocks. The river runs just one mile away from this location. The pack is greeted by small wolf cubs chasing each other and the older wolves resting around. This is the biggest wolf pack around these parts; the ancestral brown wolf''s pack is strong enough and has enough food to feed even the old ones. It is known as the leader of this part of the forest, protected by a few of the strongest wolves in the forest. Once the cubs see the hunting party is back, they run to them to greet them. "Uncle Grey is back!" "Father is back." "Mom is back." They yell and run to the hunting party with their tail wiggling. Once the hunting pack sees the little ones, they forget all the danger outside and fondly play with them. The older wolves enjoy the scene, knowing that the cubs bring joy and energy to the pack. Grey smiles at the playful interaction, grateful for the unity and love within their wolf pack. Grey added, Don''t tell them yet; I have to get Taisha''s approval first." "Ha ha, of course, you are." Fang laughs. Grey rolls his eyes at Fang and gives a tickle to each cub with a lick. Grey hurriedly moves the baby to his small cave, where his partner waits. A female tempest wolf, one of the strongest wolf breeds in the world with lightning-like powers, welcomed him inside his cave. A white wolf almost half as short as Grey rests on a twig pile. Tasha opens her eyes and smiles when she sees Grey. "What brings you here this early?" Grey smiles back at Tasha and replies, "I have a surprise for you." Tasha''s eyes widen with curiosity as Grey gently places the baby beside her. "We ran into something at our hunting party." Tasha, intrigued, asks, "And what could that be?" Grey answers with a straight face. "A human cub. He smelled good. I liked him and brought him home as our new child." Tasha takes a minute to gather all the information and answers, "Huh?" Grey looks at her and says, "As I said, I found a human cub." Tasha snaps, "What do you mean you found a human cub in the forest? How? And what do you mean he smelled lovely and like him?" Rather than responding, Grey puts the baby on the ground and moves to the back. Tasha gets closer and opens the bag, only to discover a baby peacefully sleeping inside. Tasha, dumbfounded, moves closer to the baby and starts smelling him while Grey watches her nervously. Soon enough, Tasha smiles, starts licking the baby, and gives only one answer: "Ok." Grey sighed in relief and looked fondly at the baby and her. Tasha asks, "Why is he asleep?" Grey says, "They drugged him into sleep so he won''t wake up." Taken from Royal Road, this narrative should be reported if found on Amazon. Tasha: "These humans are despicable." Grey takes a long breath and contains his anger. "They always are." He looks at Tasha. "It''s time to introduce the pack to our new cub. I hope the other cubs like him, too, he says while worrying. Tasha giggles, "Of course they will, you silly big wolf." With the infant in her mouth, Tasha followed Grey outside. Grey howled to get everyone''s attention. Soon, everyone gathered around them and looked curiously at them. And then they started to notice the baby with Tasha: "Ehh, a human?" "Why is there a human cub here?" "Why is Tasha carrying it?" "What is a human mom?" "Human, what is that?" The cubs, adults, and old ones whispered between each other. The old ones look at Fang and the others to see his reaction, only to see him calm. The commotion grows loud enough to wake the pack''s oldest and strongest wolf. An 8-meter brown wolf, covered in scars and adorned with two fangs, opens his eyes. The old wolf takes a long sniff that surprises him. The old wolf wakes up. He sets off towards the clearing where the commotion is taking place. His strides produce a reverberating echo on the ground. Once he is outside, all the other wolves are surprised at him. "It''s the ancestor!" they all shout. "Even the ancestor is scared of the human cub!" The cubs are surprised by the big wolf, whom they have never seen because he is always hibernating in his nest while leaving the tribe''s affairs to the new alpha. He only comes out when a major thing happens and protects the tribe. "That is the biggest grandpa I have seen in my life." One of the cubs yells. The other added, "Look at his fangs; he looks way stronger than Uncle Grey." Once the ancestor is near enough, all the old and adult wolves bow their heads to him. Soon, the cubs imitate their parents and bow to him, too. The cubs watch in awe as the big wolf approaches, his presence commanding respect from all members of the tribe. They feel a sense of pride knowing that he is their protector. The ancestor walks until he reaches Grey and Tasha, who are bowing and looking at the human baby. Soon, his eye sees the baby and takes a long sniff. Then he sighs and looks at Grey and Tasha. "This cub is loved and blessed by mana and hated simultaneously. His appearance may pose a threat or serve as a double-edged weapon. Should you take him as your cub, my dear Grey, you will be blessed and cursed simultaneously." Grey and Tasha exchanged a worried glance, unsure what to make of the ancestor''s cryptic words. The weight of his prophecy hangs heavy in the air as they contemplate their next steps. "But I see amazing things for our tribe coming from within him," he says, taking a deep breath. There may be a period of turmoil initially, but eventually, great things emerge. I''m not the one to lecture on how the young ones care for the pack. However, if you keep this cub, remember to treat him as a pack member. Remember to take him as one of us. Let this be a warning to all of you, too. This one will never have a place among the humans, and he shall be our child from now on." The ancestor, speaking loudly and glancing at the pack, concludes by saying, "And whatever he brings with him is one of our own too," as he gazes at the child. The pack members nod in agreement, accepting the new cub as their own. "WE OBEY THE ANCESTOR," howled all the adult wolves, followed by the cubs. Grey looks at Tasha and nods to his ancestors. Despite their warning, he decides to raise the baby as his cub. Fang and the other adults sighed and decided to run with this idiot. They knew it would be a challenge, but they were determined to protect and care for the child as one of their own. The ancestor smiles at the wolves, looks around, and blesses the cubs by licking them individually. Grey knew that raising the human baby would not be easy, but he was determined to do so with the support of his pack. As the ancestors finished blessing the cubs, Grey felt a sense of responsibility and love for the new addition to their family. The ancestor continues, "What is a pack? Is it one individual commanding others to do his bidding? Or an organization that uses all the members to get what they want? A pack is a family run by everyone who lives in it; everyone has their purpose here. We, the old ones, lived long lives in our prime and are ready to sacrifice our lives for the pack if necessary. The adults'' jobs are to provide for the rest of the pack by hunting, guarding, scouting, or taking care of the cubs, our future, whose job is to learn from the adults and the old ones and be ready when they go old. I remember when I ran into a snotty little Black whelp full of hatred and revenge, the ancestor says while looking at Gray. He was full of vigor and life. And was ready for trouble. When I welcomed him back then, I would never have guessed he would be the new alpha one day, just like how we welcome this new member today. I ask you, old and young, to be patient with him. He may be different, but he soon will be accustomed to our ways and become one with the pack. Everyone in the pack nods at his words with respect. Tasha, looking at the ancestor nervously, finally yells, "Ancestor, these vile humans have drugged my child, and he won''t wake up." The ancestor''s eyes widen in shock, then narrow in anger. All the wolves exclaim in anger upon hearing what the humans did. The ancestor nods and says, "I know, my child; he will wake up in a few hours. His health is in excellent shape, so don''t worry. What you need to worry about is what to feed him. Humans don''t eat our food, as far as I remember. The ancestor looks at Tasha while smiling. Tasha exclaims and is dumbfounded by this new knowledge. The next thing she knows, it takes her a whole day to realize she has to feed him food in fluid form (yeah, for your sake, I''m going to leave this part out).
