《The Fae's Gambit: Frost and Circuitry [LitRPG]》 Chapter 1 - Once Asked
Chapter One ''thought'' "speech"? "Fuck" were the first words Julius''s muttered from his mouth first thing in the morning as he stretched his arms from underneath the pile of blankets trying to reach the phone on the nearby dresser with its alarm going nonstop eventually hitting the correct button after the third time while dealing with the room spinning. Sitting up slowly I rubbed my eyes and began to walk into the shower and turn on the heat to full blast. As the Hot water runs over my head I start to think ''Let''s see what I have planned today, first it''s make my way to college, learn for the day, suffer, the gym, and then sleep. ''Ok, nice easy day at least'' While Julius was figuring out his day he continued his showering process, brushing his teeth, soap, shampoo, and eventually washing the conditioner from his hair grabbing a towel, and drying himself off. Julius then calls out into the air "Aqua can you please start the coffee and turn on my car please it appears I''ve overslept" A synthetic voice rings out from the hall "Of course sir it shall be prepared by the time you arrive at the kitchen and the car shall be warmed." I smile and let out a laugh "thank god for small blessings" I put on my clothes staring at myself in the mirror while I changed and continue my chuckle "Glad to see nothing''s changed" The visage that stares back from the mirror is that of a 5''11" 21 year old with tired eyes that look like they would fit in more with a raccoon then human, hay blonde hair and while decently built he was more plain then anything. His most striking feature would be the bright electric blue colored eyes. Julius then steps out of the bathroom heading to the kitchen and leans against the counter in the corner next to the coffee machine and with a perfect view of the small tv on a dresser in my living room. "Aqua please turn on the TV and turn to the news channel". Without any response the TV turns already selected onto the new channel, while silently an avatar that depicted a chibi version of a Zerg queen from Starcraft appeared on the counter and chittered over to my side with a mini remote in its hands. " do you want me to raise the volume at all Julius?" "It''s fine as is" I mutter as I sip my coffee and listen to the news. "Hello one and all and welcome to the bi-hourly news I''m Jimmy Tamally and joined with me today is our news Ancor Jessica Leblank." "Hi, Jimmy Glad, to be here today but I unfortunately do not bring joyful news but I do bring news from the front all the same" Jimmy makes a sad face and sighs at the camera while shaking his head " that''s not good news but all good things had to come to an end eventually. Please let our viewers know what happened." A map depicting a map of the world with the center of Russia Bright red and slowly expanding outward as Jessica''s voice can be heard in the background "The forces from the breach have unfortunately destroyed the Primary defenses and is begun to spread. The government has put out a public announcement saying not to worry and we still have plenty of time until the situation begins to worry. We have held the front for more than 10 years since it appeared in 2014 so there is no reason to Panick now." Unauthorized use of content: if you find this story on Amazon, report the violation. Taking the last sip of coffee, I put the mug on the counter and turn off the TV while heading for the front door and travel the short distance to the car that''s turned on sitting in the driveway. "Hopefully traffic won''t be that bad on my way to college this time." ----------- *Several hours later at 11:00 P.M* Julius lets out a sigh as he walks inside and leaves his back next to his desk in the bedroom then makes his way into the shower. After all of his nightly rituals are completed such as brushing his teeth Julius finally smiles and shakes his head walking into his bedroom. "today was successful overall but more or less just the same like the others." Sitting at his Desk he opens the freezer portion of the minifridge that sits by his desk and takes out a blunt and the lighter that sits on top. Julius sets them on the table and has a smoke sesh finishing 2 blunts before cleaning up and putting everything away. Julius then takes out a knife and lightly runs the tip of the blade against the tips of his fingers just hard enough to draw blood. He then uses the blood to draw a ritual circle with symbols inside, once that is complete he holds his hand above and lets the blood slowly drip into the center of the paper.
"Gods, Fiends, Seraphs and Daemons" " The Eldritch, The Unseen" "Those whose might we have forsaken" "Those who wield power and do hearken" " I offer to strike a pact with those who are fain and possess patience to listen" " I possess a salve, freely given for the curse thou dost endure, so long as thou dost hearken" Waiting for a few minutes and after nothing happened, I closed my eyes and sighed ''I guess it was nothing again"? I laid the paper on my desk, turned off the lights, selected a podcast to listen to, and laid down in bed and slowly drifted off to sleep disappointed once again. Unseen and Unheard the Paper that Julius laid down on his desk started to smolder and catch on fire. In a series of unfortunate events, the paper, which is now on fire, caught the wooden desk on which it sat also on fire. One thing led to another, and both the house and poor Julius himself was burnt to dust that night while a burst of slightly mad laughter echos over the smoldering flames. Chapter 2 - Once Pleaded Chapter 2 (10 minutes before Julius¡¯s house burnt down) (Uknown POV) In the vast cosmos of space, many things are possible and the sights you see are infinite but if you happen to pass by these coordinates [REDACTAED], you can find a man sitting on a broken throne with his legs propped over one of the armrests as he scrolls through the channels in the tv in front of him. Now this in itself isn''t strange but if you took a look around reality would not meet your expectations as the where one of the mans eyes would be was just a black void that continuously dripped golden blood from the empty eye socket but no care was shown on his face. Every so often his skin would glitch slightly and change to a light blue coloration before swiftly changing back to a somewhat normal color. As he was scrolling through the channels suddenly, he sat up straight and stared at the tv as it switched to a view of Julius with his eyes closed as he prayed over the sacrificial paper where 3 symbols glowed crimson. The man watched for a few moments and after hearing the entirety of Juliuss'' prayer then he shook his head and muttered under his breath "Wow surprised to see a prayer after all this time... But it seems to be more blind luck than anything." After watching until Julius falls asleep the man leans back and hits pause on the remote freezing the TV. " let''s see what this guy is about" Right after saying this he hits rewind on the remote. Slowly at first on the screen Julius can be seen getting up out of bed and going about his day in reverse, eventually the only thing on screen can be the colors switching quickly between light and dark until finally a month in ''Julius'' world'' is rewound. The image on the TV freezing on Julius who was leaning against a table with his shirt torn partially off his body and a fork in his hands. "ok ok let''s see what his journey might entail" the man waves a hand as he speaks, and a bucket of popcorn is summoned on the arm of his throne and hits start on the remote and a voice can be heard as the tv starts to play. (8 minutes later) "what a interesting mortal I think I will take him up on his offer and see what he can provide." The man stared intently for a few minutes into space and on the 26" TV screen the events that caused Julius to wonder off the mortal plain happened once again or maybe even for the first time. Once that action was complete the Powerful stranger took out a strange crystal and held it until it started to grow. *ring* *ring* *riiiiiiing* "Welcome to the World Tree''s Domain, Al''thestyre speaking how may I help you?" "Hi the name is Tony, could you please inform the lady that I have an interesting offer from a mortal that would peak her interest. And before you ask anything yes I know other beings say this same thing please just tell her Tony called." After saying this the man hangs up the crystal and sighs "Can''t believe even gods have to deal with bureaucracy after all this time. It was so much better back then when the Primordials of us were the only ones." He shivers as somehow a hand ran through his hair softly and a giggle can be heard behind his throne as an ethereal voice rings out "these comments of yours and those actions you took sealed you on this rock a millennia ago seems like you still haven''t learned tsk tsk." "what can I say habits die hard but this one is not my fault, they prayed to ME this time I didn''t start anything, the main point was that this mortal would have an interesting deal for you and for you to restart your expansion. You know you want to besides just listen to the offer and if you want to accept you can, just don''t kill him right when he makes the request." Tony''s lips twitch as he tries not to smile just imagining her reaction. "The request is that outrageous? What could it possibly be?" the female goddess twist her head in curiosity. Tony smirks and looks right at her "1 of your seeds to raise" A pregnant pause of silence sits between them . .. ... "Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!" "hehehe i knew that would be your reaction but it is going to be part of his request and suggest you actually listen for once." "fine fine but I don''t know what a Human will be able to offer that a elf cant" scoffed the female goddess as she sat on an arm of the throne and crossed her arms. This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road; report any instances of this story if found elsewhere. "he offers freedom to the both of us but more importantly entertainment but go behind the throne the acts about the start" ____________________ (Julius POV)? I feel myself wake up to the whistling of wind and start to open my eyes yet before I could all motion decided to stop. *Bamph* I rubbed my nose as I rolled over onto my back and kept my eyes closed "Ooowwwww I swear to god if someone broke into my house again for this I''m going to be furious." "you don''t have to pray to any god boy one is already before you" A deep voice rung out and I could feel a wave of something pass over me causing me to shiver and then immediately jumping up and wearing to face the voice I heard. As he came into view I stopped, a 25-foot tall man leaned against a broken throne surrounded by rubble. His skin shimmered oddly both between blue and tan without rhythm and you could feel the power radiating off him. My breath caught in my throat at the unexpected sight and I could feel my eyes widening a fraction '' I can''t believe it actually worked and someone answered the prayer but get your shit together before you blow it for yourself''. Taking a deep breath and taking a second to focus on the pressure behind my eyes and falling back to what always worked before. Dissociation. Smiling widely I bowed at my waist and looked at the ground. "hello there, your highness my name is Julius may I request to know what purpose you brought me here for". Pressure kept building up behind my eyes and I had to force to feeling to circulate and let the cold spread down to prevent more cracks from forming. The being smiled and unnaturally white teeth shined slightly " I heard your prayer and couldn''t help but be intrigued you happened to write a few of my symbols by chance and that helped me decide to grant you a wish." "It has been long enough since someone prayed to me and I thought the opportunity couldn''t be passed up. You may call me Tony". As he said his name I could feel the power radiate around us in this dilapidated building and I couldn''t help but look around as I felt rubble shift. And the view I could see what devastation. All that my eyes could see were buildings in a weirdly lined and seemly flowing bricks and managed to seem gothic and alien at the same time, there were craters the size of cars all around some big enough to cause a skyscraper off in the distance to partially collapse. From my lips I couldn''t help but mutter "Please explain the rules of how the wish will go" As soon as those words left my lips I could feel pressure crush down on me for a moment before dissipating. "I read your mind, and you know the more important of the rules, Names have power, when gods reveal themselves to mortals there must be something visible of their aspects, and she does exist." Tony stared down at me almost seemingly bored as he did that, reading a mind with almost no trouble. A sigh couldn''t help but escape my lips in relief as I asked the next question " Would it be ok Sire if she is here to for me to ask her for a request and for you to ask her to --" A laugh cut me off before finishing the sentence. "You''re acting awfully familiar aren''t you mortal? Who are you to try and ask me something of that degree? You know the rules as well as I do, favors or deals must be struck for us to do anything and I don''t know you well enough yet for a freebie" "Tell me what you are going to do with her seed if you actually get them its basically a miniature world tree and is quite valuable." I cant help but look down at the ground as my heart races and a thought rises to the surface. ''he''s showing interest who knows when this will happen again remember the #1 rule and don''t back out now'' My mouth opens but I immediately shut it. ''Fuck what''s going to interest a god'' My eyes dart around looking at the god''s attire and the scenery and lock onto a link cuff in the shape of a dice with the number constantly changing. '' ha luck or chance something along those lines. Fine one last gamble might as well go all the way'' I breath deeply, run my hands through my hair. ''Uncle always said I can sell ice to a fish, lets see if I still have the skill'' I spread my arms wide and look at Tony in the eyes " Her seed will be used as an anchor point to help keep 3 universes together and not let each of them tear the other apart but no you don''t care about that, what you care about is what I can offer you sir." Tony shifts slightly crossing his left leg over his other as somehow, he still has both legs on the ground totaling into 3 legs. "And what can you offer me kid?" Julius swallows and prepares "4% power for both you and her of Multiversal architect power" "Bullshit" Chapter 3 - Free Will Chapter 3 - Free Will (Julius POV)? "And how, pray tell, are you Julius going to be able to gather power of that purity, no less speaking of that amount?" I couldn''t help but frown as my name came across as sneered as the beautiful voice spoke, but I became stunned the next instant as a stunning woman walked around the throne. Mysterious Goddess: As I stared as she sat on the armrest of Tony''s throne, it looked like her skin was made out of branches weaving in and out of each other. The branches were so thin and weaved so tight that it caused her skin to ripple in waves from her feet as she walked. As my eyes traveled up her legs her dress came into view. Bright emerald leaves overlapped each other in a dress that traveled up her body accentuating her figure showing the outline any man would go to war for. I couldn''t help but pause and squint my eyes though as it looked like the straps for her dress her vines similar to what made up her dress yes, but eventually, it wrapped over her shoulders forming a delicate-looking choker around her neck made out of vines and then winding into her hair seamlessly. A laugh that sounded of running streams and leaves rustling in the wind sounded throughout the ruined house as the goddess smiled at me "Admiring the view child? I admit it''s not one many people often get to see." I sputter and quickly look at the sky to gather back my focus. "I-I''m sorry Mi''lady it''s just that your figure transcends any beauty I''ve seen before." "With words like that I can''t help but look forward to what you will do but let''s stay on topic" She then snaps her fingers, and a whiteboard appears with a marker ready leaning against it. "How exactly do you plan to gain the power you offer and enough to give it to the two of us? Many gods have strived to even gather a fraction of a fraction of a creator''s power, and you offer us a tenth?" I grab the dry-erase marker and slowly draw on the board 3 small circles 1 above the other with a space in-between and a cartoon tree connected to all 3 circles through the center, as I draw these on the board my heart begins to speed up hammering against my chest. I lean my head against the board as I try to gather my thoughts as my breath speeds up ''I should of listen to my sister more and actually thought this shit out. But who would have thought this scenario would happen, and I just passed my exams for nothing!'' ''Focus! The outline of the plan just remember what you both agreed on when outlining the plan'' As these thoughts ran through my head I could feel pressure slowly building from the base of my neck and rising through my head getting worse. Slowly rubbing my eyes as the pressure pools around them urging to get out and push through my eyes, my thoughts begin to run together. ''Don''t Lie they''ll know. Must tell the truth they''ll know'' ''Don''t Lie they''ll know. Don''t Lie they''ll know.'' ''Dontliedontliedistortdontliedontliebenddontliedontlie'' The sound of concrete slowly begins to crack and water dripping begins to echo out. My head jerks and I slowly look around and smile. ''Let the Con begin'' ____________________________ (3rd? Person POV) ? "It''s all about Consent and free will" As Julius says these words, he traces them out on the blackboard and underlines these points. "The creators will freely give part of their power because it will be needed as a source for the creation of a universe of its own." Julius then draws a circle containing the tree that spears through 3 horizontal ovals. And then next to that drawing a bar chart. "You see in a majority of the universes that contain a form of magic, supernatural, eldritch influence free will plays an important aspect of defense and repellent so people can survive. From this point on I will be referring to all of these as the term magic for the ease of understanding." "As a result, over the years both the use and theory of magic evolved to have a natural defense mechanism as the metaphysical impacts the physical and the physical impacts the material and so on you understand being gods and all. But this results in two different instances when power is drawn from a source of resistance it weakens immensely and if given freely it receives a boost. Thus, I need your world tree seed to connect these 3 universes as a trial run together." " I will then need the power from as many gods as possible for the universes to stabilize as a trial run and some power from the creators for a barrier thus shimmy a little to you and it''ll be fine." The author''s content has been appropriated; report any instances of this story on Amazon. Silence blossomed after Julius finished speaking as the three of them stared at each other. For a few minutes until Julius rocks on his feet slightly and looks at the dry-erase marker. *tap* *tap* *tap* Tony sighs and lets out in a tired voice "How long do you see this plan taking? This isn''t something that can be done any time soon your lifespan will need to be long." Julius shrugs "Well I planned to handle that partly using one of my wishes but that was more of a future me problem. Another life I''d at least 100 more years so that''s a bit of a buffer zone sire." His voice eventually becomes slightly quiet. "I do have 1 request that I hope doesn''t count towards one." "Oh? And what would that be Julius hopefully you are not too presumptuous." "Since I will be beginning my new life, I have the hope that I will be able to design what my new body will look like¡" Tony raises his hand and rubs his chin thinking for a second before nodding "Ok. That''s a fair request; it''s not much skin off my back and your body will have to be recreated anyway since you are dead." "I just have one important restriction for you Julius, when you choose a base for your body what race you select will influence which universe you reincarnate into." Julius nods his head "That''s a fair restriction to have on a choice like that but it''s always been one choice for me I select the Fae. More specifically of the chaos courts. If there is such a thing as a specialization, then I wish it to be of universal birth and the chaos in those moments." The Female goddess placed a hand on Tony''s shoulder and seemed to lean some weight onto him. "It seems the selected is truly ambitious let''s hope they will be able to survive their choices." She then turns and faces Julius "I accept your deal I''ll give you a seed from my tree to do with what you wish If you survive this outcome." A laugh echoes out as Tony snaps his fingers and a black dome covers Julius preventing view of his body from both gods. "A little privacy for yourself for a new remodel I understand it''s a bit delicate it is your soul. I will also soundproof this, so you have silence." After stating that Tony snaps his fingers again then turns to the only other occupant in the room. "The boy lucked out there is a there is a Symposium coming up in a few years. I need you to call an emergency meeting so they can hear a speech from Mr. Confident over there. You can use my name to get all of them to show up. " The woman side-eyes Tony and then turns around and begins to walk off. "It seems you are interested in him¡fine I''ll do it but how big of a noise do you want me to make" "Enough to ensure everyone at least hears about the meeting afterward but not enough to piss off the higher-ups. We need them to be in as good of a mood as possible. ______________________ (Julius POV) ? I saw a Black dome come out of nowhere and completely block my view of everywhere creating a void as Tony spoke. Before the horrors of the void truly became comprehensible an exact replica of my body appeared in front of me along with a holographic creation screen in the center of my eyesight, the body was still visible through the screen but the hologram looked to be a combination from Baldur''s Gate 3 and Cyberpunk 2077 with a copy of my body on a small pedestal in the center. I moved my eyes slightly so my apparent body double and the screen could both be seen easily before trying to press the rotating right arrow, but my finger ended up going right through the screen. A shiver can''t help wracking my body as I look at everything. "I know what I asked for, but this entire process is creepy" I then look at the screen again and picture clicking on the rotate right arrow mentally with a mouse. The moment this happens I flail my arms slightly as I float 3 inches off the ground and the clone begins to slowly rotate to the right at a slow pace. The moment the body begins to rotate it begins to distort as the body begins to change. Wings unfulfilled from the back in cascading layers, splitting into smaller iterations of itself that seemed to spiral endlessly into themselves. The central feathers appeared more solid acting as a base for both the wings and the body, while the outer layers of feathers seemed to shimmer and float slightly apart from each other each cascading layer leaving a larger and larger space in between, each feather showing the appearance of a fractured pane of glass making the edge of the feathers looked more jagged and crystalline then soft as normal feathers appeared. Soft white light reflected from the cracks in the layers leaving the appearance of light glowing through a window but as a result, the wings gave off an empty feeling as if it was waiting for something to fill it. After the wings appeared the body slowly grew a few inches at first but sped up as it grew more until eventually the size of the clone reached 10 feet tall, once the growing stopped the body almost seemed to shrink slightly into itself as muscles lost their definition and the entirety of the body seemed to become thinner. I tilted my head as the process seemed to come to an end but as I did so my breath couldn''t help but catch. "Wow, the Fae truly are beautiful but they do look slightly off-putting." I pressed the button on the panel as everything, On the first press the head became twice as large while the nose shifted down and the fingers became as long as needles, the next press those changes reverted while the chest became concave and the arms shrunk but the wings and size of the body never changed and continued to stay static with each press of the button. A smile crossed my face as I sped up pressing the button. "let''s see how weird this gets before we really start." Chapter Four - Wishes and Consequences Chapter Four - Wishes and Consequences ''Thought'' "speach" [Please Read Warnings above if you missed] (Mysterious Goddess POV) Location: Celestial Symposium *During the time while Julius is building his body*? I let my eyes travel and look around at the scenery while I traveled up the endless stairs ahead of me. The stairs were surrounded on both sides by clouds that slowly leaked on the edges of the stairs from in between intricately carved bronze-hued pillars that shot into the sky. Each pillar showed a story of how a different universe was created depending on which prominent Pantheon ruled and how they let the history of what really happened be told. She could feel a soft giggle escape her lips as she looked to her right and spied a depiction of a cow reaching out with its tongue that could be seen wrapping around the pillar to reach the edges of a frost plane that seemed to travel with the pillar that rose up, At the point where the tongue reached the frost plane it seemed to move back and forth as almost licking the salt covered stones. When I saw the cow, I couldn''t help but stop and turn to completely face it. At that point, I slowly lifted both my arms and slowly twisted them counterclockwise as vines grew out of my arms and reached toward the cow. When it looked like they touched the cow it seemed to shimmer slightly and move its head as if to lean into the vines. I shifted my fingers to manipulate my vines to pet along the back of the cow''s head. "who''s a good little Aueumbla. You are!". I then moved the fingers so that my middle and pointer finger along with my thumb touched both my hands which caused the vines to softly squish the cheeks of the cow and then whispered to the pillar. "who''s a good boy, who deserves all the treats in the world?" Before this truly important question could be answered an old man''s voice echoed out loudly through the entire staircase section of the Symposium. "Yggdrasil get up here now! You are the one that called for this meeting to be sped up to now the least you can do is be on time and explain to us why we are all here." I insistently roll my eyes and scoff before taking a step and teleporting into the center of a dais where the steps end and look around the room. As I look around the room, I can''t help but stare at the hall and see what it shows. The floor shimmers like a mirror of still water and each step an attendee takes sends a ripple out until it eventually disappears. These ripples distort the reflection of a ceiling that shows a clear view of a sky filled with constellations. Pillars of bronze come out from the bottom of the Symposium and as they rise, they start to each separately change into pillars made out of marble obsidian or gold each inscribed with different symbols from various mythologies. I could feel a shiver travel my body and looked upwards as I could feel the air buzzing with electric energy, and the scent of ambrosia, and burning incense could already be smelt around the room. As I looked up the Attendees came into view, Divine figure both large and small, Gods sat on stylized thrones while lower deities sat around them and in their own little cliques each radiating their unique presence. All along while this happens mortals in all shapes and colors along with mortals from different species ranging from dogmen to angels, demons, kobolds and more can be seen walking in-between each god and disappearing and reappearing from the fog that surrounds the edges of the Symposium as they take care of the needs of everyone while trying to stay invisible. There were many gods visible throughout the room, to name a few Odin sat prominently on a pure white throne one eye visible glinting and glaring at me with lighting flashing occasionally across his pupil. I couldn''t help but frown as I glared right back at him ''Smug bastard always wants to create problems for no reason when I''m involved. Just because he thinks he is more powerful.'' Seated on his left was a man whose skin was the same color as bronze and hair changing like tumultuous clouds. A thunderbolt resting softly across his legs symbolized him as Zeus. Across from them rested a serpent who was curled around a pole that rose vertically and was seen resting its head on a small platform that jutted out. Its feathers shimmered with emerald and gold scales that were surrounded by feathers trailing and creating design on his body, a small Plack simply stated ''Quetzalcoatl''. Beneath Quetzalcoatl''s platform and to the right was a deer bedding down on its own platform. The deer had the appearance of sleek white fur with black accents that trailed behind its head and across its chest, a golden wheel-like structure surrounded its midsection with spokes coming out and mirroring each other resembling a cosmic halo. Its eyes were a piercing green while golden features appeared to come up from its hooves giving it a celestial appearance. Many more gods both man and animal could be seen surrounding the center Dias on multiple layers some further back into the clouds and obscured while some were closer towards the orb in the sky. I lifted my head straight back to look at the orb that floated in the sky. In the center of the vast ceiling of clouds hunh a black orb, a void within a void suspended in the air. Its surface was smooth and as calm as the ocean with its color the depths as if you traveled straight down until no more light shined in the water. Suddenly, a flash of lightning tore through the air, a jagged line of light that cracked across the orb''s surface, where the bolt struck waves roared around the orb until they collided with each other on the opposite side. I raised my voice and spoke after the lighting flashed, taking control of the orb to display a scene of the discussion that happened earlier between Tony and Julius but on mute. "This mortal here is the reason for the meeting to be called up. He naturally called out to Tony and they managed to strike a deal." After I finished speaking outraged voices of gods immediately rang out. "HOW DARE HE" "We need to stop them before anything bad can happen" "why does it matter" "Hissssss his hiss hisssssessss" (Translated: It''s been long enough I believe he has served his punishment and can be allowed to answer prayers again). " He isn''t the worst looking boy around" "My animals can beat his ass any day he does not look strong at all" More voices continued to ring out until a loud bang suddenly rang out before the air seemed to move ripple side to side and shoot down from the roof and slamming down into the pillars with a bang. "As I was saying the deal is being struck right now, the main wish of the boy was to have a chance to attend the meeting here and make a plea to all of you. This plea will be slightly time-sensitive, but the goal is more long term and if you deny now you can still have a chance to join in later again, you will just not have as good a payout. So just hold your horses for a few more moments and you will have all the answers you need." "Nehh!" A sharp horse''s neigh could be heard ringing out once in the silence that followed my statement. I laugh and hold up my hands "Sorry sorry the pun was unintentional" __________________________ (Julius POV) Location: Unknown *Several Hours Later* "Ok, it seems like that''s the finishing touches on how I''m going to look from now on." On the pedestal a towering figure could be seen slowly rotating atop it, her features both imposing and delicate as her face sat in a neutral expression. The woman was clearly Fae, her 10 foot tall lithe frame excluding an otherworldly grace. Her skin produced a subtle sheen, catching the soft light that came from nowhere if you looked hard enough. The wings on the body were beautiful fractal masterpieces that constantly shifted and changed into themselves but it still produced an empty feeling when looked at for too long producing a dissonance when compared to the rest of the body. The hair on the woman''s body was swept up into a messy bun, stray strands framing her angular face and curving just in front of her elongated, pointed ears. The base of her hair was charcoal gray which was blended seamlessly into streaks of soft glowing lavender which when the hair was moved gave the impression of twilight captured. As she turned so her face was in the light I could see intense colors where her eyes were making me smile. At their centers, a bright light red gleamed softening into a vibrant green as the color spread outward blended together like petals of a blooming flower while dark eyebrows that narrowed towards the end framed her face. Leaning back slightly I look over the body of the figure before nodding. "Yep this will do perfectly, definitely a better character design than some of the games I''ve played before." I then press the green checkmark button on the bottom of hologram screen before a new screen automatically pops up. ''Please enter your new name then select the checkmark again to end the process.'' ''New Name Selected: Ivory'' Once I pressed the checkmark the black dome dropped immediately and starlight flashed in making me cover my eyes with my arm. As my eyes were covered I could begin to feel my tendons and muscles start to shift and squirm underneath my skin, as they squirmed like worms hidden in the dirt water started to pour off me as my body slowly heated up higher and higher like never before to try and handle the changes that were happening. My head twisted as I brought down my arms staring at them in horror as they still moved before turning and staring at Tony. The moment I turned to stare at him my eyes started to itch and feel like there were microscopic ants crawling across them. " Tony what the hell is- AHHHH!" *CRACK* *CRACK* Before I could finish my sentence two loud cracks rang out causing me to scream and fall to the ground. My eyes locked onto my legs as I continued to scream my lungs apart as in 3 different places on each leg were seen shattered before reforming slowly to each other causing the legs to slowly shrink on themselves slightly. Tony''s voice is barely heard as I try to regain my focus through the blinding pain. " what I assume you were going to ask is, what is happening to your body and why?" "To answer the first part, what other way did you expect to transfer into a whole new body? You''re a soul. There is a cost to every gain and detriment to every positive. Answer the second part it would have happened anyway as this is a completely new physiology compared to a human your muscles are gonna move, but more importantly you are changing back into" "Ahhhhhhhhhhhh my legs!!" " Uhuh as I was saying you''re changing back to when you unconsciously remember to be your happiest which seems to be around 18-19 years old. That requires a bit of shrinking, don''t worry though you will eventually gain a skill to change your height and grow to the 10 feet you hoped for so you have to suffer for a few moments". *5 minutes later* ? Tony''s voice held a tinge of amusement as I held my eyes closed to block the sun that shined into my eyes when I rolled over to get out of the puddle of sweat that formed. "If you didn''t spend so long designing your character then the sun wouldn''t have the time to circle around this rock once and come back here again. But let''s get a move on kid we got people waiting and still have a bit to go, hit me with your next 2 wishes." I braced my arms on the ground and shakily pushed bringing myself up while marveling over how my new body felt although frowning slightly at how close the ground feels. "You won''t get the full feeling as you still are technically in a soul state right now but better to get used to it now as much as you can." I nod and brush a few strands of lavender and grey hair that falls In front of my eye back behind my ear "o-ok fair enough. For my second wish I wish for a personal system to have, one that resembles Cyberpunk. And for my third wish, I wish to acquire the perk or ability of polyglot to help with my understanding of the languages I will run across." Tony slowly stood up from his chair and began to walk towards me, each step he took a fresh drop of golden blood would slide down his face and drip onto the floor creating a trail that followed closely behind him. "For your second wish I will do that no problem, I''ll even throw in a small surprise for you. Your third wish is unnecessary so I''ll just not do it, something gained something similar over time so there will be no problem In that instance. Try again for your 3rd? wish. I raised my hand and rubbed my chin thinking "damn that''s a tough one a denial like that wasn''t something I was expecting I will need a second but quick question, can you transfer personalities as well?" "Yes, I can as long as it''s something realistic. Oh, and before I forget select one universe in which you will get to see the birth of that universe, the other universe you will see is going to be the one you are going to head to." "Ok, then I wish for all aspects of Jack Frost''s psyche¡ªhis personality, memories, feelings, traits, and essence¡ªeverything that makes him who he is, to be integrated into my soul while preserving my existing identity and ensuring no harm comes to me. For my selection of the universe I request for it to be The Koprulu Sector." Tony reaches into the pocket of his pants and pulls out a pair of glasses and a notecard then puts on the glasses while taking a look at the notecard. "Interesting choices but with the ones you did make I am obligated to disclose that any effects or defects you gain from any mutations or attacks once the process starts is not on us. If any other entity takes over your mind the wishes you made will still affect them and they will live the life you were meant to live. If any entities make contact with you during this process from those 2 realities, I will not interfere unless you say to stop, and I feel like it." He leans forward and rests his arms on his legs "The 2 wishes will happen one after the other in three different steps. Firstly the soul you selected will be integrated and mixed into your soul intertwining them and mixing parts of his species into yours, remember you asked for everything. The next step will be surviving the physical process for about a minute until the knowledge and energies you process reach your soul which brings us to your third and final step. For the final step you and Frost will have to appear in your sea of consciousness and defend it from the corruption and any entities that will wish to take over your body. The second universe was locked in the moment your race was selected as it was one of the few connected to Wylde, but since I''m the one doing all the work I switched it to a universe far more enjoyable to me. With that let''s get started and my one and only advice for what you''re about to go through, Pray you don''t blink first boy." "Oh almost forgot, you also earned the lady''s permission to use one of her seeds, she left it here and since you are still alive so far here you go." He reaches into a back pocket and pulls out a small seed and tosses it so it floats in front of my face. After saying that Tony takes a few more steps closer to me shrinking drastically as he does so we both are able to maintain direct eye contact. He then spins 180 degrees and raises both of his hands before swiftly bringing them down resulting in two small tears in space. He then pinches both of them slightly and moves them, so they are aligned with my eyes one tear in front of one eye before letting go and taking a step back. Tony never moved in my view but all of a sudden, a small pale blue orb wreathed in blue flames appeared between the two of us and slowly began to advance closer to me. As the orb advanced, I lifted up and arm and reached out my fingers to touch it. Waiting for the orb to get closer I realized the orb seemed to become more solid and vibrant the closer it got to me. ''Odd but hopefully not as concerning as it looks.'' The moment I saw the orb touch my fingers it felt like ice was injected into my veins and my hand immediately went to my chest to clench at where my heart would be as I could feel it slowed down each beat coming longer and slower than the one before until reaching a point it seemed happy with. A breath passed by my lips in a fog from the temperature difference. As the fog from my breath passed my eyes, I saw the two tears that were hovering in front of my face by a few feet suddenly open up showing two windows into the void as if nothing happened for a beat. Before my heart could beat its next, two similar but vastly different sights were seen. In the leftmost rift, I watched in silence as threads of light spread from the center of the void, each a spark of what would become stars, worlds and eventually the seeds of life. Then they emerged like shadows from underneath the light. The Xel''Naga, their forms massive, leaving no doubt to their purpose as massive tentacles began to move as it seemed from this distance that they interacted with the strands of light, forming stars and material preparing material to seed the universe. The largest Xel''Naga turned to look in the general direction of the tear I used to before wrapping his tendril around one of the strands and pulling it, so the strand began to travel my way, visibly increasing in size as the only indicator it was moving. A flash of presence made me look into the rightmost rift. From the void came light, an entity beyond definition and never bound by form or purpose. From this distance I could feel as its essence resonated with creation, and without a sign the Big Bang occurred. Before more was visible, a beam from the big bang could be seen turning by an unseen hand and becoming closer at a visible pace already taking up the entirety of what was visible from the tear seeming to almost thin and try to gain more momentum as if racing an opponent. This story is posted elsewhere by the author. Help them out by reading the authentic version. *Riiiiiiiiiiiip* A sound of ripping paper sounded from the left portal and the moment I heard it the beam of light the Xel''naga diverged towards my direction and slammed into my left eye, a suction force gathered around me back into the portal. As the light seemingly reversed going back into the portal and dragging me with it time seemed to reverse. Threads of light slowly drew back together in the center of the universe before only darkness remained. The void stretched around me, a vast expanse of nothingness hung around me absent of any light or movement, yet at the center of the emptiness movement began to stir-subtle at first, not noticed with my eyes but some understanding granted during this moment. From nothing emerged the Xel''naga, Colossal creatures appearing elongated and flowing edges as each one had multiple limbs and appendages some winged. Their bodies glowed enough to appear slightly translucent, and the ends of their appendages had glowing tips that seemed to twinkle when they collided with each other. They were not merely beings; they were architects, weavers of existence. Their essence was twofold: purity of form and purity of essence. From their hands, the canvas of creation unfurled. The first stars ignited their light piercing the void, Planets coalesced from the matter in the light. From my point of view time slowly sped up as the Xel''naga can be seen separating and a small group separating from the rest can be seen headed towards a secluded nebula. When I looked at them until they disappeared behind the cloud a thought crossed my mind ''Most likely that is Amon and his little posse, seems like his second thoughts are starting about the experiment'' My memories flashed back trying to remember the lore of StarCraft as the universe continued to move forward. ''Amon''s betrayal was inevitable. An unease grew within Amon as time passed, a desire to transcend the cycles the Xel''Naga held sacred. He sought perfection, not through balance, but through dominance.'' I saw as shadows slowly corrupted what was once newly built. A great shadow fell¡ªa betrayal. The Fallen One, Amon, twisted the Xel''Naga''s vision into a grotesque parody. I saw his hand and his whispers tainted existence itself, a malignant force that festered in the heart of the cosmos. As this happened Worlds burst into being, vibrant and teeming with life. The Protoss and the Zerg, polar opposites born of the Xel''Naga''s experiments, were set on their paths but Amon''s corruption reached them too as the Protoss, majestic and proud psychic beings, sought unity but succumbed slowly to division as their independence grew. The Zerg, instead grew more primal and relentless, craving evolution but consumed blindly as a result only focusing on their intent to grow. The purity he sought became his curse, and the universe bore the scars of his rebellion. The Protoss, shining in their pride and unity, were born of purity of form. The Zerg, teeming and relentless, were shaped from the purity of essence. Both were tools, crafted in Amon''s attempt to break the cycle. Yet his creations would not bend to his will. Eons passed in a blur of fire and shadow. The Protoss and Zerg clashed endlessly, their battles echoing through the cosmos. And then, a woman¡ªSarah Kerrigan was born. I felt her emergence like a nova, her path entangled with Amon''s schemes. From Terran ghost to the Queen of Blades, her journey was a storm that swept across the galaxy. In her rise and fall, I saw both destruction and the glimmer of something greater. I followed her through the endless battles, a silent witness to her pain, her fury, her rebirths. I could only watch as the Swarm became her weapon, then her burden, and finally her means of liberation. She ascended, not by Amon''s design, but by defying it. And now, here, in this timeless place where light and shadow intertwined, she stood again. The final confrontation had passed, and Sarah Kerrigan had been remade¡ªnot as the Queen of Blades, but as something transcendent. Her wings of light unfolded, radiant and unyielding, a being of pure purpose. Then came the humans¡ªthe Terrans. Their emergence was unlike the Xel''Naga''s design, a result of chance and chaos. They were fragile yet unpredictable, their spirit defiant against the vast forces that sought to shape their fate. I watched them struggle to carve meaning from the chaos. Through it all, one figure loomed: Sarah Kerrigan. Her fate was intertwined with the tapestry of creation, her path marked by tragedy and transformation. Once human, she became the Queen of Blades, the embodiment of the Zerg Swarm''s fury. Yet even in her darkest moments, there was something within her¡ªa spark of defiance, of hope. As the universe turned toward its most crucial moments, I felt the currents shift. The Xel''Naga, long thought dormant, stirred once more. Their eternal cycle demanded renewal. Kerrigan stood at the nexus; her essence poised to reshape the balance of all things. As Kerrigan''s chains of mortality visibly fell the void shuddered as Sarah Kerrigan had been remade¡ªnot as the Queen of Blades, but as something more and she turned to face me. "You''ve been watching," she said, her voice both a whisper and a thunderclap. There was no malice in her words, only curiosity. I tried to shrink away, but I had no place to hide. She stepped closer, the void around her shimmering as she used a small percentage of her psychic power to traverse space. Her expression softened, a faint smile gracing her lips. "Perhaps it doesn''t matter, but a watcher deserves a gift here is mine. Its purpose will show soon enough" She reaches her arm over my shoulder towards the tear and a grinding sound can be heard before she brings her hand back palm up. On the palm, a small black parasite can be seen curling up into a tighter and tighter ball before launching and watching onto my throat. My hands whip to my throat in panic and try to tear it off "What the fuck is this thing doing get it off!!" I feel its incisors line up against my neck and tear it open slightly as I grab its tail. Before I can do anything else her voice rings out. "No" She then raises her foot and a force of a truck hitting my chest forces me back through the tear. The moment I clear through it, my body feels forced to stand in front of both tears as the energy blast from the left pauses for a second as I look around tightening my grip on the bug as everything stops and seems to be waiting for what will occur next. The parasite tenses and suddenly closes his jaws tearing my windpipe as the world suddenly flashes white from pain, permission seemingly was given as the sounds of several things moved, the ants under my skin resurfaced and the sun decided to be welcoming as the surroundings turned white, my mouth clamping together teeth grinding from the pain. The moment the midnight black parasite slashed my neck the hand holding it in check let go and dived forward, compressing its body as it squeezed through the cut going into my body and moving deeper as blood flowed from the wound like water. *Riiiiiiip* As this was going on the energy from the second tear finally made its way through before going into Ivory''s eye mimicking the other like a mirror as a suction force came and dragged my body into the rightmost tear. I was nothing more than a small flicker in the void, confined to this one location to witness what was meant to come for now just quietly adrift in the void of eternity. The force sang into the silence, its presence encompassing all. It was neither light nor darkness but somehow a unity of both concepts, a balance infinite in its complexity. The symphony it played became the seed of the universe, a song pure enough it gave birth to the stars, time, and space themselves. I watched as the Big Bang occurred in the center of the void, watched as the force ebbed and flowed around it splitting off a small section before sending it towards the tear. From this light The Force breathed and guided as stars formed and ignited, their light casting shadows across space. Worlds emerged some mere hellscapes that were only nudged along the process, but others as time sped up, Life began to take root ¨C small and fragile at first but growing and striving as time went on. In time the Force was focusing on the heart of the galaxy before forming one planet with more care than any other, the Force Breathed into the center of the world binding it together and creating balance bringing reality to what would come to be known as the Wellspring of Life. Once this process was complete, I saw the first beings rise, a luminous female form that resonated with the Force itself. Her figure seemed semi-corporeal covered in a flowing, veil like shroud seemingly made out of shadows. As four more figures came to her sides, two on the left and two on the right, pale masks adjourned their faces, each one an expressionless mask that reflected a specific emotion, manifestations of The Force''s will and wisdom. They were not alone for long. The currents of the force swelled and 3 figures, avatars of its most primal aspect appeared. The father radiated a calm and ancient aura as he already appeared old, walking in between the next two figures that appeared his presence immovable and seeking a balance between them. The Daughter Appeared next, radiant with light, embodying the light side of the force releasing an aura of compassion and harmony. Before a word could be said The Son emerged, the embodiment of the dark side. He stopped once outside to bow to the force in thanks before stalking over to his father and sister, releasing an aura of passion and power that seemed to push back the aura of the daughter. These beings did not appear to command the Force; instead, they were its servants and guardians. Time flowed and I watched as the Father while drawing upon the force bound his children, the Daughter and Son and then created a place to bring them to, a sanctuary beyond the stars a realm outside of reality, a place of equilibrium where they could not tip the scales of existence a world called Mortis. Once this was complete, I could feel as if The Force turned and noticed me then. It was not a single gaze but more of an infinite awareness vast and ancient but not unkind. The figure emerged from the shimmering air, not stepping forward but simply becoming, as though the Force itself had decided to coalesce into an understandable form. Slowly, it resolved into the outline of a woman, though her features remained elusive, shifting with fluidity as if influenced by thought. Her body was composed of light and shadow, swirling together in harmony. Streams of luminous white and deep, inky black intertwined across her form, blending and separating as if caught in an eternal dance. The light pulsed softly, like the heartbeat of the universe, the light around her pulsing with a rhythm that felt like a heartbeat¡ªnot hers, but the galaxy''s while the darkness whispered of infinite depth and potential. Her face was a blur of suggestion where eyes might have been, twin points of light glimmered, their gaze piercing yet warm, carrying the weight of galaxies and the intimacy of a single star. The only constant in her form was that of a faint smile that lingered on her lips that spoke of mischief. Her hair, if it could be called that, cascaded in waves of pure energy, each strand a thread of the Force itself, stretching out infinitely and dissolving into the air. Within it, stars seemed to sparkle and fade, the remnants of countless lives and stories woven into her being. When she moved closer to me, it felt as if the galaxy itself shifted with her. Each step left trails of light and shadow that dissolved into nothingness, like the wake of a starship sailing through hyperspace. One hand, barely distinguishable from the glow that formed her, reached toward me. Her fingers brushed my cheek, and though I felt no physical contact, the sensation was unmistakable. Her gaze or what passed for it held mine. There were no words, but I could feel her presence speaking to me, not in language, but in the purest expression of understanding. ''Hello'' Her touch lingered for a moment longer, an instant that was over too soon yet she drew her hand back before gently pushing my body which begins to pick up more speed as it travels back towards the portal. The moment I clear through it; my body is back to standing in front of both tears as if it never moved. (Warning worse gore) The disturbance from the energy passing the seed caused it to slowly start spinning in place between the two beams, a suction force seemed to grow as its speed increased, reaching a point where small strands started inching closer and closer to the seed. Boxes of black and white started appearing around the seed glitching it in and out of reality as the twin streams of energy arched closer and closer eventually meeting in the middle of the seed. When the three hit each other the seed started spinning even faster before suddenly it stopped and in its place 3 small seeds which were perfect copies of each other floated in place, the runoff energy being pulled back to the main streams and continuing to the eyes of the poor mortal in front. *Crunnnnnnch* "Gah!!" A few minutes passed and out of the blue, a sound of teeth shattering could be heard before Ivory let out a scream opening her mouth. What sloshes out from her mouth is blood and chips and fragments of the remains of teeth that shattered from the pressure of clenched jaws. A small splotch of blood flew out from Ivory''s mouth and splashed onto all three seeds. The blood was absorbed in moments before radicles grew out from the seeds, the radicles then moved frantically back and forth propelling the seeds forward eventually landing across the left arm of the woman. Ivory''s breath started catching screaming even louder as blood began to well up from where they landed, the seeds pulsed drinking the blood as if alive. Soon after roots sprouted from their shells, thin at first but growing thicker and stronger with each passing second. The roots burrowed into her flesh, weaving through her skin, muscle, and bone with unnerving precision heartwood replacing the bone as it slowly advanced. Vines erupted from the location of the three seeds, coiling around her arm like hungry snakes constricting tighter and tighter as it spiraled down her shoulder and crept towards her fingers. Once the vines encapsulated the arm the vines proceeded to harden, their bark-like texture transforming into a seamless structure that was intricately melded with her body. The arm looked as if it was polished wood with faint grooves and ridges around its structure. There were patches where the texture softened, where the wood seemed to almost breathe with a slight elasticity as if pumping something into the body. Near the joints, the wood changed into a pliable yet almost leathery look as an intricate weave of fibrous tendrils allowing for movement replacing the tendons, cartilage, and more in those locations. Bark-like ridges coiled around the elbow and wrist, the surface rougher, more akin to the texture of worn tree bark, contrasting with the smoother areas along the forearm and hand. As the transformation of Ivory''s arm finished her charcoal gray hair started to glow, accented with light purple streaks. Starting at the roots a silvery hue flowed out like frost spreading across glass, overtaking the grey strands with Brilliance. The light purple highlights seem to glowed brighter for a moment, only fading as the transformation turned the entirety of her hair into pure, snow-white silk. The strands framing her face sparkled faintly as if dusted by starlight. At that same moment, her wings unfurled in cascading layers, each feather fractal in design, splitting into smaller iterations that seemed to spiral endlessly into themselves. The central feathers were dark and solid, grounding her chaotic form, while the outer layers shimmered with translucent colors, like stained glass fractals lit by the shifting hues of a dying star. When the wings moved, they refracted light into impossible shapes, creating reflections of worlds yet to exist. The tears in space slowly closed, once they did so the beams of light disappeared leaving in its place a mirror. As I opened my eyes the first thing, I noticed in the mirror was how different they appeared both eyes being vastly different, the iris of my left eye was changed the iris started as a deep purple that slowly lightened into a forest green darkened and grew more vibrant the closer it became to the pupil, the iris seemed to be almost torn and healed in certain locations as the green seemed to have not formed correctly and resulted in the uneven spread of the color which was reflected in the right eye. Focusing more on my right eye the difference in color was apparent. The iris was colored an ice blueish green that seemed to become even paler as it went closer to the pupil before transitioning slowly to a brighter and brighter purple circling the pupil like an alien sun on an eclipse. Main Character: (After Transformation) Also as close as I could get With A.I creator her arm shown is completely made out of wood. Main Characters Eye color/design. (Couldnt get colors to transfer to the main image.) I leaned closer to the mirror as the black Sclera in both of my eyes was hard to miss along with the small ember-like flakes that seemed to float off the iris and disappear into the abyss-like sclera. She could feel herself gasping the sound caught between wonder and unease, as she felt her teeth regenerating. A gentle crackling sound rang out as the duller, sharp edges of what was left of her teeth gave way to a pristine, radiant white. They shone not with the artificial gleam of polished enamel but with a natural shine as if sculpted from freshly fallen snow under the morning sun. Finally, everything ended with a faint, resonant chime from a bell that rang out on Tony''s throne. She exhaled, her breath misting as she raised a hand to touch her hair. The icy strands were soft, impossibly smooth, and cool to the touch. Her reflection in a nearby mirror revealed the full extent of her change: ethereal, and otherworldly, like winter and fun personified. A faint smile played on her lips before catching what happened with her left arm and remembering the pain it caused as it occurred. Flexing her fingers, she felt the grain of the wood shift and creak like a living thing. The wooden limb wasn''t just functional, it was a symbiosis of human and plant with three small sunflowers that seemed to have grown during the end of the transformation. Chapter 5 - A Bitter Winter Night Chapter 5 - A Bitter Winter Night (Ivory''s POV) ? I felt the pressure holding me in place release and fell as my legs began to collapse and without any support holding up my body, it started tilting towards the ground. As the ground seemingly grew larger the feeling of the tear across my neck regenerating suddenly blossomed into awareness. Arms tried to reach up, but the only one responding still felt slightly alien as it reached up and covered wiggling skin. Flexing her fingers, she felt the grain of the wood shift and creak like a living thing as both the flesh under her hand seemed to shift and change as it healed, the feeling transitioned from a slightly cold skin to a colder more metallic feel. As this happened the floor continued to grow larger, and suddenly puddles entered her view and reflected her appearance back at her. The first thing I focused on was the two changes to my appearance that were unexpected. My left arm seemed to have changed to wood that would fit more on a dryad than any flesh. As I looked over my new arm, I couldn''t help but think ''That explains the pain I felt although it seemingly moves well enough like a normal arm, the seeds must have done this somehow- but what did that lady give me to cause this.'' I then shifted my vision to the more important blood-covered neck that showed back at me from the water. ''My neck seems to have healed at least but not the skin that thought crossed my mind as a pale black line of scales that ran horizontally across pale skin seemed to shift and move going up and down creating small gaps in between each other. A soft whistling and clicking sound can be heard before the scales stop and seemingly press against each other mimicking and appearance of a small section of scale armor. My focus then shifted to the new eyes that stared back at me from the water, but a voice sounded out and the reflection in the water disappeared and instead showed a small lake surrounded by sand that transformed into a lightly wooded forest as the distance increased from the lake. "Soooo how was the experience, fun? It seemed fun. Any a who what you are now seeing is the personification of your subconscious. The lake there is yours I''m being serious. Protect it from any corruption you experience in your life if it''s taken over completely you''re dead no re-do. Also, you''ll see a timer th-" As my nose touched the water Tony''s voice disappeared and my vision went black. ______________________________ Rise of the Guardians Universe Characters: Jack Frost: Tooth Fairy: Tooth Fairy Mini Fairies: Pitch Black: *In Another Universe* (Tooth Fairy POV) The moon looked so beautiful as a curtain of light pierced through the clouds causing a snowstorm and shined down on Jack Frost as he kneeled on the sand a distance away from Pitch Black who was also looking at Jack. As I looked over his body a sob couldn''t help but wrack my body as tears trailed down my face. He leaned heavily on his staff crouching down in front of all of us and although I couldn''t see the front of his body I knew of his condition as I sat here and watched over the days as the damage accumulated over the days and nights of fighting and protecting the All of the baby tooth fairies, myself and Rabbit since he transformed, all of us weakened by the loss of belief. *Drip* *Drip* Drip* *Drip* I watched as blood slowly dripped down from his body and splattered onto the ground already dyed red from his standing there for minutes. Rapidly my wings began to flutter as I pulled myself up and started walking to him, burning into my memory the image of his blood-soaked jacket and pants ripped into tatters barely more than shreds, visible through the cloth was a back worn and beat down but somehow still standing, wounds of all shapes and sizes littered his body, small jagged cuts traced their way over back leading into deep crescent shaped mashed that marred their way over his shoulder continuing unseen. The edges of wounds were ragged as if torn and bit by sharp teeth and canines, the worst wound of all a gaping hole where flesh once was, revealing the bone beneath, the back of ribs shone beneath. I felt myself trip as I hit an unseen rock and the pain from the backlash of another group of children stopped believing in me. I stared at the ground as slowly drops of water started to hit the sand and my vision blurred by water coming from somewhere, my voice cracked heard even my fist curled in the sand as unwillingness surged in me. "JACK! JACK PLEASE! Leave us you''ve done more than enough. You''ve protected us for days; Sandman has fallen and so has Rabbit. I DON''T WANT TO LOSE YOU TOO!" My arms stopped being able to hold me up as I felt another group of kids leave me, only less than a thousand kids remained believing. I fell more laying partially on the ground my arms horizontal keeping me up. Crunching sand could be heard as I could hear him getting closer feet shuffling as he had to use his staff to keep himself up. His shoes appeared in my obscured vision tears still wracking my body as slowly his knees appeared and I felt a hand under my chin slowly forcing me to lift my face. My vision cleared as he used his thumbs to clean my face and wipe away my tears. I could see his beautiful smile, snow white teeth gleaming as if freshly fallen snow as fallen, framed by the face I fell in love with ages ago no matter how destroyed or scared it became. Bright Icey blue eyes stared at me with care, one eye partially closed by a wound that ran across his eye ending as it crossed his nose blood slowly dripping down. I closed my eyes as I leaned into his palm as his voice sounded out somehow still containing mirth. "Now what are you going on and talking about Tooth? I''m not going anywhere I told to you to hell and back and it seems like we aren''t in hell yet. Besides you gave me back my memories, I finally remember everything I know why I was chosen! I had a family a real family. And a sister ohh I can''t wait to show you what she looked like, she was so sweet and adorable, she had a smile that would have made you proud." "she sounds beautiful Jack I can''t wait to see her, promise me you''ll come back and show them to me." It was silent for a few moments before I heard him shift and the world seemed to stay still in my eyes. I felt ice-cold lips press lightly against mine as my eyes opened in surprise and I could only focus on the blue eyes full of confidence, humor and a hint of fear staring back at me. My arms flung up and grabbed fist Fulls of what remained of his jacket and pulled myself as close as possible, pressing my lips against his full of longing, fear, and happiness all trying to convey the singular thought. ''Please don''t die Jack I love you'' "Eeee! Chreeee!" (*translated* Eeeeeee finally!) A loud pitch sounded out from thousands of throats before energetic trills and squeaks sounded out. "Trrk-chree-trrk" ( we are happy for you Mom!) The high pitch trills continued as buzzing wings sounded out in increasing pitch. From the corner of my eyes, I could see thousands of my little fairies fly towards us before diverting and forming a doom over us. As they did this, they seemed to create a circuit so no gaps showed, fluttered against Jack one at a time and seemingly tried to flirt with him dramatically a few fake fainting on his shoulders. A giggle escaped my lips as I leaned back and blushed as I stared at Jack, feeling the crest of feathers on the top of my head start to puff out. I tap on Jack''s arm gently as a sign to let go as I start to stand up taking a few steps away from him, meanwhile using my other hand to flatten down the feathers on the side of my head shyly. I waggle a finger at the fairies " Hehe keep it together girls, if he''s going to fight for us we have to make sure he looks his best. Little tooth try and get him excited for the fight" They all nod rapidly before beginning to circle Jack rapidly while another one seems to hover right in front of his eyes and starts to trill rapidly to him mimicking air fighting someone and moving in and out of range along with other moves. As this happened his clothes slowly began to weave back together and appeared brand new as if nothing happened to them. He raised an eyebrow and ran over his clothes. "Impressive work I didn''t know you had these types of skills in you." My wings fluttered slightly as I stepped closer and dusted some debris off his shoulders before kissing his cheek. "I have a lot of skills you do not know about that I''ve picked up over the years promise me you''ll come back, and I''ll show them to you." "I will try my best to come back to all of you. But now it''s time to finish this, it''s been long enough. The cold night air bit my skin as I watched as he walked off the Faries parting around him little hands reaching out trying to hold him back. My heart pounded in my chest, and though my wings were still, I felt like they might shatter from tension alone. Jack was already hurt. I could see the dark stain of blood spreading across his hoodie from the wound on his side already staining the newly stitched material. He shouldn''t have been fighting. "Is this bravery, Frost?" Pitch Black''s voice carried through the stillness, his form emerging from the shadows. He strode forward, a looming figure of malice, flanked by his writhing Nightmares "You can still join me, and if not, I''ll let you leave along with the Tooth fairy and the little ones just stay out of my way." Jack straightened, gripping his staff with both hands. He forced a smirk, though I could see the strain in his icy blue eyes. "It''s called being stubborn, Pitch. You should try it sometime¡ªit might make you less boring." Pitch''s smile twisted into a sneer, "Stupidity then, you can barely stand." Pitch''s smile twisted into a sneer, and with a flick of his hand, a Nightmare charged forward. Jack reacted instantly, sending a blast of frost that shattered the creature into shards of black ice. But another Nightmare appeared from the forest on his left surging forward from a tree shadow at the same time, its jagged horn catching Jack off guard. "Jack!" I cried out instinctively as the Nightmare struck, its horn piercing his shoulder. He cried out in pain, staggering back but not falling. Gritting his teeth, he swung his staff in a wide arc, smashing the Nightmare in the face. The creature dissolved into mist, but the damage was done. He winced but refused to drop his staff. "You''ll have to try harder than that, Pitch," he said, though his voice wavered. Pitch chuckled darkly, his golden eyes glinting. "Oh, don''t worry. I intend to." Shadows coiled around him like living creatures, lashing out toward Jack. Jack countered with a wave of ice that froze the tendrils mid-air, but Pitch was relentless. He closed the distance between them, summoning a whip of darkness that cracked against Jack''s staff. Jack swung his staff upward, the frosty tip catching Pitch across the face. The Nightmare King recoiled, his snarl echoing across the clearing. "You insolent little¡ª" "Yeah, yeah, I''ve heard it all before!" Jack shouted, his voice filled with defiance. He launched himself forward, sending another burst of frost that forced Pitch back. Pitch''s golden eyes narrowed, and with a flick of his wrist, shadows surged toward Jack. Jack countered with a wall of frost, the ice spreading in jagged spikes across the ground. The shadows dissolved against it, but Pitch was relentless, his tendrils reforming and striking again. Jack leaped to the side, spinning his staff and sending a burst of ice that caught Pitch in the chest. The Nightmare King staggered back, brushing frost off his cloak with an annoyed expression, the moment he brushed off the frost a snowball came flying in and impacted at the exact same spot. "That was a mistake," Pitch growled. Jack laughed, though it came out breathless. "What, ruining your outfit? You''re welcome." The snowstorm had already darkened the sky getting worse throughout the day ever since we''ve been here, its winds howling through the trees like a wild beast. But in a moment, it became something else entirely. The snow swirled with an almost sentient rage, flurries thickening into a blizzard as Jack spun his staff above his head. His icy power surged, feeding the storm, and for a moment, he seemed untouchable. Pitch Black stood at the center of the chaos, his golden eyes gleaming with malice. Shadows twisted and writhed around him like serpents, cutting through the storm with deadly precision. "Do you think this storm will save you, Frost?" he called, his voice cutting through the roaring wind. "Or are you just trying to hide?" Jack smirked, though I could see the strain behind it. Blood seeped through the tear in his hoodie where he''d been struck earlier, and every movement carried the weight of his injury. "Hide? Nah," he replied, his breath visible in the freezing air. "I just thought I''d make things interesting." With a burst of frost, Jack leaped into the storm, his feet skating effortlessly over the icy ground. He moved like a streak of silver, his staff glowing as he fired blasts of ice toward Pitch. Each strike exploded in sharp bursts of frost, forcing Pitch to retreat or block with his shadows. "Is that all you''ve got?" Pitch sneered, his shadows darting toward Jack like vipers. Jack dodged, spinning in a wide arc and sending another icy blast that caught Pitch in the shoulder. The Nightmare King stumbled but recovered quickly, his anger palpable. "You''re just delaying the inevitable," he growled. "Maybe," Jack shot back, his voice steady despite the storm raging around him. "But at least I''m giving you a run for your money." I couldn''t take my eyes off him. He was brilliant, skating through the storm with a grace that made my heart ache. But I could see the toll it was taking. His movements were slowing, his blasts of frost growing weaker. The blood dripping onto the ice beneath him told the story his smirk tried to hide. Pitch saw it too. "You''re tiring, Frost," he said, summoning a wave of shadows that surged toward Jack like a tidal wave. Jack swung his staff, freezing the wave in mid-air before shattering it with a sharp kick. But the effort cost him¡ªhe stumbled as he landed, clutching his side. "Jack!" I screamed, my voice lost in the wind. Pitch didn''t give him a chance to recover. Another Nightmare charged through the storm, its jagged horn aiming straight for Jack. He twisted to avoid it, skating backward and firing a blast of ice that shattered the creature, but the effort left him wide open. Pitch appeared behind him in a swirl of shadows, striking with a whip of darkness that wrapped around Jack''s leg and yanked him off his feet. Jack hit the ground hard, his staff slipping from his grasp and skittering across the ice. "Still so defiant," Pitch said, standing over him as Jack struggled to rise. "But this is where it ends, Frost. You were never going to win." Jack glared up at him, his chest heaving. Even now, he refuses to give up. "You talk too much," he muttered, his hand darting out to grab his staff. With a desperate surge of power, he unleashed a blast of frost that struck Pitch square in the chest, sending him stumbling back. For a moment, I thought he might turn the tide. But Jack''s strength was fading, his movements sluggish as he tried to get back to his feet. Pitch recovered quickly, his shadows closing in. "You''ve fought well," Pitch said "But in the end, fear always wins." Before Jack could react, Pitch''s shadows surged forward, pinning him in place. A spear of darkness formed in his hand, its tip aimed at Jack''s heart. "No!" I cried, my wings carrying me forward, but I was too far. Jack looked up at Pitch, his eyes filled with a quiet sorrow. "In another lifetime and a few more years, we truly could have been allies" he whispered, his voice barely audible over the storm. And then Pitch struck. The spear pierced Jack''s chest, and the storm fell silent. His staff slipped from his hand, the light fading from its icy surface. Jack''s body went limp, his brilliant blue eyes staring into the sky as the snowflakes settled around him. Before his body hit the ground Pitch stepped forward and held Jack''s body before softly lowering him to the ground and closing Jack''s eyes for the last time before shifting into shadows. I reached him moments later, cradling him in my arms as tears blurred my vision. "Jack, no," I whispered, brushing the frost from his pale face. "Please, don''t leave me." Pitch watched from the edge of the clearing, a sad smile on his lips that didn''t seem to reach his eyes. "I know you won''t believe me, but I truly didn''t want it to come to this, if anyone would have understood it was him, he suffered almost as much as I did. He made me make a promise to him when I first offered him to join all that time ago before this all ended, I won''t hurt you, all of you will be sent back to the cages, they will be expanded and connected I''m sorry Toothfairy..." Venom laced my words as I spat them at him as we both stared at the body laying on the ground "Go FUCK yourself Pitch I''ll never forgive you for this I hope you rot." The snow was still. The storm that had raged just moments before had died, leaving an eerie stillness that hung in the air like a heavy cloak. his body lay motionless in my arms, his body pale and cold against the biting wind. His once bright, lively form had turned into a lifeless shell. His eyes, those bright blue eyes, had lost their spark. I could barely breathe, my heart caught in my throat, as tears blurred my vision. I couldn''t tear my gaze away from him. He was gone, and with him, a piece of the world''s joy, a piece of my heart. The weight of that loss crushed me. But as I sat there, cradling Jack in my arms, something in the sky began to shift. It wasn''t the blackness of Pitch''s shadows or the storm''s angry clouds, but something deeper, something ancient and serene. The moon began to rise, its soft light spilling through the trees. It cast a cool, silvery glow that seemed to calm the world around us, gently sweeping the lingering shadows away. Then, from that moonlit glow, he descended. Brother Moon, the eternal guardian of the night, appeared before us. His form was as vast and graceful as the night sky itself, his silvery light glowing brighter than any star. He was not of our world, not truly, but his presence was as calming as the dawn. His eyes, glowing pools of deep wisdom and compassion, settled on Jack''s still form, and there was no mistaking the sorrow that flickered in them. I had heard of Brother Moon, of course, But to see him here, at this moment, was something else entirely. He moved with grace, his presence soothing the ache in the air. Pitch Black, too, stood quietly a few paces away, his usual sneer absent. Even he seemed to respect this moment, For all his darkness, even Pitch understood what was happening. Brother Moon bent down, his ethereal hands glowing brighter as they reached for Jack''s soul. I watched, mesmerized, as Brother Moon lifted his hand, and the light around Jack''s body seemed to intensify. Jack''s soul, like a soft, shimmering mist, began to rise from his lifeless form. It was the purest light soft, cool, and glowing with the essence of winter itself. The soul floated upward, wrapping around Brother Moon''s outstretched hands, like a child finding its way home. I closed my eyes for a moment, my heart breaking as I realized what was happening. His spirit was being carried back to the moon, back to the realm of forgotten dreams and the starry skies. As the light enveloped Jack''s soul, I felt a strange sense of calm wash over me a residual influence from Brother Moon. It didn''t take away the pain, The Guardians had always known that the end of one journey was the beginning of another, but it still hurt, it always did. Pitch, too, watched quietly. I could feel his presence¡ªhe was there, but not interfering. Even he understood the gravity of this moment. He had taken Jack''s life, but now there was a respect for the spirit that remained, for what Jack had been. Brother Moon nodded to both of us¡ªPitch and me¡ªand with a graceful motion, he turned toward the sky, Jack''s soul still glowing in his hands. Slowly, he began to ascend, carrying Jack''s light toward the heavens, toward a place where winter''s chill could finally rest, and where the spirit of hope could finally rest. The wind had quieted, the storm now a faint memory, leaving behind an unnatural stillness. The night had swallowed the last traces of Jack''s light, the moon''s pale glow still lingering in the sky like a soft promise. I felt his presence all around me, a presence I hoped would never fully fade. I stayed there, my wings folded tightly against my body, trying to hold onto that feeling for as long as I could. My little Tooth Fairies fluttered around me, their wings beat softly as if they were trying to comfort me but didn''t quite know how. They, too, had seen Jack''s light dimmed, and the sight of their tiny faces wide-eyed and uncertain only deepened the ache in my heart. But the silence was heavy. The weight of Jack''s absence pressed down on my chest, and even though the wind no longer howled, it still carried a deep emptiness that echoed in my soul. I didn''t look at Pitch right away. I didn''t need to. I could feel his presence standing a few paces as he shifted behind me, just as still, just as cold. His shadow loomed, but there was no mocking, no bitterness in the air. It was... quieter now as if even he felt the weight of what had happened. Time passed. Minutes? Hours? I couldn''t tell. Every second felt suspended like the world was holding its breath in the aftermath. And then, finally, Pitch sighed. It wasn''t a dramatic, triumphant sigh. It was... tired. There was a weariness in it that I hadn''t expected, a resignation that made the night seem even more desolate. His voice broke the silence, low and strained, but still cutting through the quiet like a blade. "I''m... tired," Pitch said. His tone was far softer than I was used to hearing, lacking its usual venom. "This wasn''t what it was meant to be today." He paused, his shadow flickering in the moonlight. "You... have your time for grief, Tooth. I''ll be back tomorrow." I remained still, not looking at him, not wanting to acknowledge him, but his words kept lingering in the air. They weren''t an apology¡ªno, that would never come from Pitch¡ªbut there was a rawness in his voice I had never heard before. His usual power and menace were absent, leaving something darker behind: exhaustion. "You won," I said quietly, the words barely escaping my lips. "You got what you wanted." A long, almost sorrowful pause followed. Then, Pitch''s form shifted, and I heard the familiar sound of his footsteps¡ªthe soft scrape of shadow against the snow. "I didn''t want this," he muttered, more to himself than to me. "I didn''t want him dead. I wanted to win. To show them, to make them see..." He trailed off. A bitter laugh followed, but it was devoid of humor. "But this? This wasn''t part of the plan." I couldn''t bring myself to respond. The coldness of his words still clung to the air, even though they didn''t seem as sharp now. "Tomorrow, Tooth," he repeated, his voice tinged with finality. "Tomorrow, I''ll come back. And we''ll finish this." The shadows around him began to shift, and before I could say anything more, Pitch had melted into them, disappearing into the night with a swirl of darkness, leaving only the faint echo of his presence. I remained in the stillness, my wings limp at my sides, staring at the spot where Jack had fallen, the icy ground now untouched. The coldness that remained wasn''t the chill of winter or the touch of fear. It was something far deeper, an ache that wouldn''t fade, not tonight. I didn''t know what would come next. I didn''t know how I would move forward from this. But for now, all I could do was sit in the quiet, letting the weight of Jack''s absence settle into my bones, holding onto the memory of him as tightly as I could. Tomorrow, the world would move on. But tonight, I grieved. And maybe, just maybe, Pitch did too. Chapter 6 - Its Raining Men Chapter 6 - It''s Raining Men (Ivory POV) I ran a hand across the sand as I lay there, no memory of where I was. The warm sand beneath my fingertips was the first thing I became aware of this place feels different¡ almost alien. They were soft and grainy like static from a TV or maybe more like a memory fleeting between my fingers. I groan as I roll onto my back and stare at the pale moon that hung above, surrounded by three stars that slightly twinkled from time to time. ''Where are all the stars?'' I could hear the gentle lapping of the waves against the shore, the kind that always felt soothing but soon that sound disappeared as if slowly being forgotten. But I couldn''t relax as my memories felt clouded, one thing was clear though this wasn''t Earth. The sky was empty, there were no stars. Just a vast expanse, like an artist had forgotten to paint in the stars only the three stars circling the moon hung there. I shifted pushing myself up on my arms as I took in my surroundings, running my hand through my hair trying to get most of the sand out before stopping suddenly. ''Where is the Water?'' Where the edge of the beach ended instead of water washing up onto the beach there was nothing, the ground just suddenly dropped into what looked like an abyss from this view. I stand up fully, my eyes scanning the horizon. That''s when I spotted him. Jack Frost. His figure is outlined against the pale moonlight, his eyes are pale blue that almost glows, and his hair a messy snow white. He''s crouching on the sand peering over the ledge, his usual carefree stance gone, replaced by a sense of confusion. His sharp features look drawn in the moonlight, and there''s something in his gaze that tells me he doesn''t know where he is either. I see him slowly shake his head before he stands up fully and turns around in her direction and freezes as he realizes I''m standing here. The moment their gazes met, Ivory gasped, her chest tightening as an overwhelming flood of images, emotions, and sensations poured into her mind. In an instant, Ivory saw flashes of a boy skating across a frozen lake, his laughter ringing out, only for it to shatter into panic as he fell through the ice, the scene shifting rapidly from waking up afterward, meeting the guardian''s and eventually his death by Pitch Black. She felt his cold, suffocating fears, his joys his loneliness over the years to love and then nothing. But it wasn''t one-sided. She could feel in her mind that as a tide of memories not her own flowed into her mind, her memories of her life were flowing out and to him. The connection broke as abruptly as it began, leaving them both breathless. ''Well this will be interesting, wonder what he saw, work for the family was never boring.'' "What the hell was that?" Jack whispered, his voice shaky. Before I could formulate a response, the sky rippled. Two tears one violet, the other pale blue appeared above them, twisting and coiling like liquid fire. The moon and the three stars seemed to circle faster, casting strange shadows on the sand. A faint hum echoed across the beach, and then, as if it had been waiting, a message appeared before them in glowing, crystalline letters:
I look at Jack, a sense of dread creeping up my spine. He meets my gaze, eyes wide. We both feel it, the hum beneath the surface, the underlying power that is starting to take shape around us. I feel a sickly smile worm its way across my face as I glance at the twin tears before looking back at Jack. "I can feel it this isn''t going to end well take my word for it." I can see him shake his head and chuckle. "Aw come on lighten up I saw the discussion with that God about this, I don''t think he will fuck us over that much." The letters shimmered in the air before dissolving, replaced by a progress bar that began to climb: 10%, 20%, 30%...
Progress: 90%
Error Detected
The screen flashed and flickered. The purple tear above us pulsed as if responding to the error. And then I felt the system already within me. A presence I hadn''t even been aware of until now. It roared to life, its foundation familiar yet alien. StarCraft. I''d always thought it was just a game, a pastime. But here, now with a wish, it was something more. The percentage flickers and falters, dropping and rising erratically, as if the system is struggling to stay in control. A deep rumble echoes beneath our feet. I sense something, something ancient, stirring from within me. The system isn''t the only one trying to integrate into my soul. Another voice cracks through the air, smoother, more animalistic. The screen flashed again, but this time the text was different. Its color shifted, growing deeper, more split with each word until the final message blazed in a display of blue and purple.
Sparks of energy lashed out across the beach. Jack flinched in the corner of my vision, summoning his staff instinctively and summoning blocks of ice to protect both of us, while I stood frozen, eyes widening in alarm. The two systems clashed. I could feel it within me, a chaotic battle for dominance. The loading percentage fluctuated wildly, dropping to 40%, then surging to 75%, only to fall again. The StarCraft system consumed the other piece by piece, its digital framework weaving itself into the fragments of the opposing system until, at last, the bar hit 100%. The screen flashed again, but this time the text was different. Its color shifted, growing deeper, more saturated with each word until the final message blazed in a vivid, almost luminescent purple pulsing to an unknown beat as if it was alive.
GOOD LUCK.
And then, the countdown began.
... .... 44:59
Its stark presence loomed over us, a silent harbinger of what was to come. The timer ticked down, each second a drumbeat echoing in my chest. Jack stood nearby, his staff gripped tightly in his hands, his blue eyes fixed on the violet glow of the system''s message above us. "Does this happen a lot?" he asked, his voice a mix of sarcasm and unease. I let out a dry laugh. "Not exactly, but it seems to be my life now." He raised an eyebrow at me. "You don''t sound concerned." "I''m not." I met his gaze, forcing a grin as confidence sparked in my chest. "This is our mind, Jack. We should have some degree of control here before the timer ends, and besides, if I die today, I''m going to live well and have fun till I do." Jack tilts his head, curiosity flickering in his icy eyes while sarcasm drips as he speaks. "So what? You''re just going to will the monsters away?" "I wish, but sadly no can''t do that let''s look around the island to get a lay of the land." He takes a step to the side and throws out his hand slightly "Well then lead on Milady." The soft crunch of sand beneath my bare feet was the only sound in the still air. Jack walked beside me, his staff slung lazily over his shoulder, his sharp blue eyes scanning the horizon. The countdown timer still floated faintly above us in the sky at 40 minutes its presence a constant reminder that we weren''t just here to enjoy the scenery. The beach stretched endlessly in both directions, its pale, almost luminous sand giving way to an abyss where water should have been. That black void was unsettling, an emptiness that didn''t belong in a world like this. "This place is... eerie," Jack said, his voice breaking the silence. "Yeah," I replied, my gaze shifting toward the sky. The moon hung high above, surrounded by the three stars circling it in a slow, hypnotic rhythm. "But it''s also beautiful in a strange way. Like a dream you don''t fully understand." He chuckled softly. "Or a nightmare." We walked a bit farther, the sand gradually shifting to firmer ground. The beach gave way to a meadow, its grass unnaturally green and soft underfoot. The wind here was gentle, carrying the faint scent of something sweet like honeysuckle or freshly bloomed flowers. Jack knelt to run his fingers through the grass. "At least it''s solid," he said, smiling faintly. "I half-expected this place to vanish under our feet." The meadow ahead stretched into the heart of the island from my view, where the land gently sloped upward. Clusters of trees began to dot the landscape, their trunks tall and silver, their leaves shimmering with a faint luminescence. Jack approached one of the trees, his hand hovering near the bark. "These trees..." he murmured. "They''re... warm?" Curious, I placed my hand on the trunk. He was right; the bark pulsed faintly under my palm, almost like a heartbeat. The sensation was strange, but not unpleasant. "Everything here feels alive," I said. Jack tilted his head, studying the trees with a thoughtful expression. "Yeah, but alive how? It''s not like Earth, that''s for sure." We continued through the grove, the trees gradually thinning until they opened into a wide plain. At the center was a lake, its surface perfectly still and impossibly clear. The water reflected the sky above, the pale moonlight shimmering on its surface. Jack whistled low. "Okay, this is definitely something out of a dream." I crouched at the edge of the lake, dipping my hand into the water. It was cool and refreshing, sending a gentle tingle up my arm. "Feels real enough," I muttered under my breath. As I looked past the lake a small mountain loomed, its rocky surface streaked with veins of glimmering crystal. The sight of it drew me in, a strange pull that I couldn''t explain. "Think there''s something up there?" Jack asked, following my gaze. "Only one way to find out" I said, already making my way toward the base. The climb wasn''t steep, but the path was uneven, the ground littered with smooth stones that jutted out at odd angles and patches of moss. Jack didn''t seem to mind, he glided over the ground coasting on a path of frost making the trek look effortless. "Show-off" I muttered under my breath as I stumbled on a loose rock. He glanced back with a teasing grin. "Need a hand?" "I''m fine" I grumbled, waving him off. When we reached a plateau near the summit, the view took my breath away. The entire island stretched out below us: the beach where we''d woken up, the shimmering lake nestled in the plains, and the endless void surrounding it all. "It''s... smaller than I thought" Jack said, his voice unusually quiet. "Yeah" I replied, a sense of unease creeping in. "It''s like this island is the only thing that exists here. Everything else is just... nothing." Jack leaned on his staff, his expression thoughtful. "Maybe it''s not about what''s out there," he said, gesturing to the void. "Maybe it''s about what''s here." His words hung in the air, and for a moment, I felt a strange sense of connection to the island, to Jack, and to the 3 small saplings that visibly sprouted out of the ground next to the lake at that moment. We made our way back down the mountain, the sunless sky above us remaining unchanged. By the time we returned to the lake, the countdown had ticked down to 15 minutes remaining. "We should head back to the beach" I said. "Whatever''s coming, we need to be ready." Jack nodded, his playful demeanor giving way to a quiet determination. "Let''s hope all that system stuff you''re controlling can handle it." We reached the edge of the plains, the dirt slowly transitioning to sand in front of us as the sky above remained starless and pale. I knelt, placing my hands on the ground and closing my eyes. I let my focus center on the image in my mind a massive dam, old and cracked, but solid enough to protect the island''s heart. ''Funny I''ve always imagined it like this to help deal with my emotions ironic it''s used now.'' The earth beneath us groaned, trembling with raw energy. Jack stumbled back a step, his eyes widening as the ground split open in front of the lake. "Uh, what are you doing?" he asked, his tone half awe, half alarm. "Just watch" I said, my voice strained with effort. The tremors intensified as the land began to shift and rise. From the very bedrock of the island, a towering dam erupted, its worn surface marred with cracks and streaks of moss. The structure was ancient-looking, its once-pristine stone now weathered, cracked, and chipped. The dam spanned the valley, curving slightly as it stretched across the terrain. Its massive spillways remained closed, sealing off the plains and lake from whatever lay beyond the tears. Jack stared at it; his mouth slightly open. "Okay. That''s...damn. A giant dam." "Yeah," I said, standing and brushing the dirt off my hands. "It should keep whatever''s coming from reaching the lake...hopefully" "You just pulled that out of nowhere?" he asked, gesturing toward the colossal structure. I shrugged. "It''s been in mind imagined for years. Might as well make it useful." As we admired the dam, a low rumble began to grow in the distance. At first, I thought it might be part of the island shifting again, but then the sound became unmistakable¡ªthe roar of engines. Jack craned his neck, searching the sky. "Do you hear that?" Before I could answer, a shadow passed over us. I looked up to see a massive structure descending from the sky, its engines blasting streams of blue flame as it slowed its descent. The Terran Command Center touched down softly on the grass near the lake, its hulking frame settling into place with a mechanical hiss, the moment it settled into place a holographic screen appeared. Both of us took a step back, eyes wide. "What... is that?" he asked, pointing at the massive building. "A Command Center," I replied, a grin spreading across my face. "And that''s supposed to mean something to me?" "You''ll see." The Command Center whirred to life, its systems humming with energy. The large doors at the front slid open, and three SCVs rolled out. The one in the middle rolled further out then the rest closer to the two of us before all 3 stopped. "In the rear with the gear!!" The voice echoed out from the Centermost SCV before The SCVs immediately began gathering resources, their movements efficient and purposeful. Two of them started mining from crystalline deposits that had appeared near the base of the mountain, while the third moved toward a cluster of rocks to begin clearing a path. The hum of activity filled the air, punctuated by the rhythmic clanking of metal and the occasional hiss of hydraulics. The SCVs moved like clockwork, their mechanical arms working with precise efficiency as they carried out the commands, I had issued moments before. The first SCV began marking the foundation for the barracks, its laser cutter etching perfect lines into the soft grass near the base of the dam. Another SCV joined in, unloading prefabricated panels from compartments built into their chassis. The pieces of the barracks fit together seamlessly, snapping into place with a satisfying clunk leaving the last one to gather resources. "More SCVs" I muttered, fingers dancing across the holographic panel in front of me. The Command Center hummed, the lowered ramp showing into the bay flashed with sparks before opening to release a fresh SCV and continuing to do so every 12 seconds. The framework of the barracks rose swiftly, its boxy structure taking shape as the SCVs welded beams and panels together. Sparks flew as their tools cut and fused metal, the glow illuminating their movements in the fading light. Nearby, the newly built SCV worked on the factory. It was larger and bulkier than the barracks, its reinforced frame designed to handle the production of heavy machinery. The sound of hydraulic lifts and spinning drills filled the air as the factory''s core components were slotted into place, the barracks let out a low, mechanical hum as its final assembly finished, steam hissing from vents along its sides. The hiss of hydraulics filled the air as the barracks'' heavy metal doors slid open. A plume of steam escaped, curling into the night like ghostly tendrils before dissipating in the faint moonlight. The air felt charged with anticipation as I waited for the first marine to step out. The ramp extended with a low groan, its surface shimmering with condensation from the humid air inside the barracks. Then, through the lingering mist, the first marine emerged. The sight of him made me pause. He was massive, even more so than I''d imagined. Encased in a suit of power that made him look like a walking fortress, easily seven feet tall, with thick, reinforced plating covering every inch of him, his armor a deep slate grey with faint scuffs and scratches that bore witness to countless battles. The suit hissed faintly as he moved, the joints of his armor hissing with a mechanical precision that spoke of hydraulics helping him move, His left shoulder pad jutted out like a reinforced shield, their edges marked with faint lettering and insignias I didn''t recognize but somehow felt oddly familiar. On his chest plate, the faded white emblem of the Terran Dominion was barely visible, worn down like a relic of a forgotten past. He reached the bottom of the ramp, his boots landing with a weighty thud that echoed across the plain. For a moment, he stood still, his helmeted head turning slowly as his visor scanned the environment. The glowing orange slit of the visor caught the light of the moon above, making it gleam like molten fire. Did you know this text is from a different site? Read the official version to support the creator. It was hard to ignore the weapon in his hands¡ªa massive C-14 Gauss Rifle. It looked heavy enough to require a machine to lift, yet he held it with an ease that made it seem like an extension of himself. The rifle''s barrel glowed faintly, its intricate design bristling with a quiet lethality. The Marine raised his head, the visor locking onto me. Even though I couldn''t see his eyes, I felt his gaze boring into me. It wasn''t hostile, just¡ assessing. A voice sounded out, distorted through the suit''s comm system. "Armed and Ready." I nodded, forcing myself to breathe steadily. This wasn''t just a soldier; this was a weapon brought to life. A tool honed for a war far beyond anything I could comprehend. "Head to the top of the Dam, once there and a squad of marines join you and stay there, send the rest to the bottom of the dam to start digging trenches," I said, my voice calm and commanding. "We''ll need you to be ready when the timer hits zero." He saluted with crisp precision, the gesture somehow both robotic and oddly human, before turning and jogging toward the growing defensive line. His movements were surprisingly smooth for someone clad in what looked like an armored tank, but there was a weight to every step, each one leaving a faint imprint in the soft grass. As he moved away, another marine appeared at the top of the ramp twenty seconds later, then another. They descended one by one, their identical visors glowing faintly in the dim light. Jack''s voice broke the silence beside me. "You''re sure these guys aren''t going to turn on us, right?" I glanced at him, smirking faintly. "They''re under our command. They''ll do what I tell them......probably, but come on let''s head to the top of the dam" Jack didn''t look convinced. His eyes followed the marines as they took up positions in front of the dam and started digging the trenches, their rifles ready. __________________ *Few Minutes Pass* From our vantage point partway up the dam, the battlefield spread out like a living map. The Command Center sat at the heart of it all, its bays opening periodically to release fresh SCVs. The little machines were relentless, rolling across the ground in search of resources and tasks. Some were already constructing additional bunkers along the trench line, their mechanical arms moving with the precision of a surgeon. The barracks buzzed with activity as marines marched out in disciplined lines. Their dark blue-grey armor gleamed under the pale light of the moon, their glowing orange visors reflecting the faint light. They moved with purpose, each carrying a C-14 Gauss Rifle, the heavy weapon cradled in their arms as if it weighed nothing. "Look at them," Jack said, leaning over the railing and pointing. "They''re like ants. Angry, heavily armed ants." I laughed. "They''re marines. The best soldiers you''ll find anywhere, at least in the Terran Dominion. They don''t stop until the job''s done." The barracks paused its action no more marines walking out for a time before the hulking form of a Firebat emerged first, its flamethrowers glowing faintly with the promise of destruction. The Firebat''s frame was bulkier than the marines, its armor layered with extra plating that made it look like a walking tank. It stomped forward, its flamethrowers twitching as if eager to unleash their fury. Even from this distance little puddles can be seen trailing behind the Firebat as Prometheum fuel leaked from the bottom of its boots. Following close behind the factory was alive with motion, a Siege Tank rolled out of the factory on its heavy treads. The tank''s massive turret swiveled as it moved, the barrel of its main cannon glowing faintly. Its tracks left deep grooves in the dirt as it rolled through an open gate at the bottom of the dam, into position near the trenches. The tank''s hull was covered in scratches and scorch marks, as though it had already seen countless battles, but it moved with the precision of something freshly built. In the distance, more marines filed into the barracks in perfect formation, their movements synchronized. The Firebats took their positions closer to the frontline, their flamethrowers glowing brighter as they powered up. The Siege Tanks were the last to move, rolling into position with a heavy, deliberate pace. Their drivers must have been testing the mechanisms, as the tanks occasionally shifted into siege mode, their cannons locking into place with an audible clunk. The sound of their stabilizers digging into the ground sent vibrations through the air, a reminder of the devastating power they could unleash. Jack leaned on the railing, his eyes scanning the horizon where the void beyond the island seemed to ripple faintly. "Do you think they''ll be enough?" he asked, his voice quieter now. I didn''t answer right away, my gaze focused on the soldiers and machines below. The marines, the Firebats, the Siege Tanks, everything we''d built was designed for war, for survival. Then my mind flashed remembering all the cinematics depicting the swarm. "They won''t but hopefully They''ll have to be" I said finally, turning to meet his gaze. "Because we''re cant lose this island." Jack nodded, gripping his staff a little tighter. "Alright, Commander," he said with a faint smile and saluting sarcastically. "Just let me know where you need me." As we stood atop the dam, the countdown above ticked steadily downward.
The activity below continued, but the tension in the air was palpable now. The soldiers were ready, the machines were in position, and the defenses were built. All of a sudden a question entered my mind and it wouldn''t disappear a grin stretching across my face as the timer continued to go down. "Hey Jack how much of my memory do you remember?"
"I mean I saw everything but I remember flashes mostly towards the end where you worked for the family''s boss to help with problems."
The message disappeared with a soundless pop. For a moment, the air was still. Too still. Then, the sky above us rippled like water, and the two tears¡ªone violet and one pale blue¡ªflared to life. Their edges twisted and shimmered like liquid fire, spilling light into the void around them. The violet tear pulsed ominously, while the blue one flickered as though struggling to maintain its shape. From deep within each tear, a low, guttural sound began to build¡ªa howl that sent shivers racing down my spine. And then they came. The first wave was small, relatively speaking: Zerglings. They spilled out like a tide, their scythe-like claws digging into the ground as they sprinted toward the dam with unnatural speed. Behind them came Hydralisks, their long, serpentine bodies slithering forward as their spines bristled, ready to launch. But it was the hulking forms of the Ultralisks that truly made my stomach drop. A massive shape emerged from the pale blue tear. The creature was enormous, its four massive scythe-like claws slicing through the air with terrifying precision. The first Ultralisk roared as it stepped forward, its heavily armored carapace glinting faintly in the moonlight. Each one was a walking mountain of muscle and armor, their tusks as long as siege tank barrels and just as deadly. They moved with deliberate, thunderous steps, shaking the ground beneath them as they emerged from the rifts. "Well, that''s not horrifying at all" Jack muttered, spinning his staff and summoning a small flurry of snowflakes around him. I glanced at him, smirking. "You worried, Frosty?" "Me? Nah" he replied with a casual shrug. "I just don''t want to be the one carrying this team if things go south." The sky above us darkened further as Mutalisks screeched out of the blue tear, their leathery wings beating against the air as they circled like vultures. "This is what I was worried about" I said, my voice steady despite the dread gnawing at the edges of my mind. Jack gave me a sidelong glance, a grin tugging at his lips. "Oh, come on, Ivory. I''m sure your army of angry robots has this handled." I laughed, the sound more genuine than I expected given the circumstances. "They''re not robots. Well, some of them are. But the Marines? Flesh and blood." "Really?" Jack raised an eyebrow. "Because they don''t seem like the chatting type." The Marines below sprang into action, their rifles snapping up as they aimed at the incoming swarm. The Siege Tanks rolled forward, locking into place as their stabilizers dug into the earth. The Firebats lit their flamethrowers, the orange glow cutting through the darkness. But up here, atop the dam, it was just me and Jack. "Focus, Frost" I said, raising my hand, summoning ghostly instruments around me. A piano appeared first, its translucent keys shimmering faintly. Drums followed, then a bass guitar, each one floating weightlessly in the air. Jack blinked, his mouth half-open. "You''re kidding. Instruments?" "You''ll see, I have a bit of a plan stay up here using range till the second song." I said with a grin, stepping up to the ghostly piano. My fingers hovered over the keys, their surfaces cold and smooth under my touch. Before I could play, a soft rustling sound caught my attention. I turned, just in time to see three small figures emerge from the shadows of the dam''s far edge. They were children, or at least they looked like dryad children, their forms delicate and shimmering with an ethereal glow. They were completely silent, their wide eyes reflecting the light of the ghostly instruments as they approached. Jack jumped slightly, his grip on his staff tightening. "Uh... friends of yours?" he asked, his voice lowering. "I have no idea" I admitted, watching as the dryads moved closer. The tallest of the three reached out with a small, branch-like hand, its fingers brushing the edge of the bass guitar. It plucked a single ghostly string, the sound resonating through the air like a heartbeat. The other two followed, one tapping on the drums while the smallest climbed onto the piano bench beside me, its glowing gaze fixed on the keys. For a moment, everything stilled. Then, without a word, the dryads began to interact with the instruments in earnest, their movements fluid and instinctive. Jack blinked rapidly. "Okay, I''m officially weirded out now." "Same man, Same." The grin stretched further across my face, hurting slightly as skin tore at the edges of my mouth as I stared at the advancing wave of the Swarm. "Prepare for a show that''s only going to get weirder." The moment the first Zerglings crossed into range, the battlefield erupted. The marines opened fire in unison, their rifles unleashing a torrent of Gauss rounds that lit up the night. The sound was deafening¡ªsharp bursts of rapid-fire cutting through the air, the smell of gunpowder mingling with the tang of ozone. The bullets tore through the Zerglings at the front of the horde, their bodies crumpling to the ground in bursts of purple ichor. The Siege Tanks roared to life next. Their cannons fired in synchronized blasts, each shot landing with devastating precision. The explosions ripped massive craters into the earth, flinging Zerglings and Hydralisks alike into the air. The ground shook with every impact, a relentless rhythm that seemed to echo the beating of my heart. I watched as a round from a Siege Tank slammed into the side of an Ultralisk, the beast became enshrouded in smoke. Before I could blink it appeared again galloping through the smoke unharmed. The Ultralisks were closer now, their massive forms towering over the battlefield. One of them charged straight into a bunker, its tusks ripping through the reinforced metal as if it were paper. The marines inside screamed as a Siege Tank locked onto the beast. The tank fired. The shell hit the Ultralisk square in the side, the explosion tearing a gaping wound into its carapace. The creature roared, staggering but refusing to fall. Two more tanks fired in unison, their shots finally bringing the massive beast crashing to the ground. The Firebats stepped forward in the trenches, their flamethrowers roaring as they unleashed arcs of searing fire. The flames spread in wide sweeps, consuming entire clusters of Zerglings in an instant. The air filled with the acrid stench of burning flesh, a sharp contrast to the cold, mechanical efficiency of the rest of the army. The battle below was relentless, a brutal clash of firepower against overwhelming numbers. The air was thick with smoke and the acrid stench of burning flesh. My army was holding the line, but barely. For every Zergling, Hydralisk, or Ultralisk that fell, it seemed like two more emerged from the endless tide pouring out of the twin tears in the sky. And then, it happened. One of the trenches collapsed under the relentless weight of the Swarm. It began with an Ultralisk, the massive beast charging toward the line with terrifying speed, its tusks cleaving through marines like a scythe through wheat. The Siege Tanks fired at it in rapid succession, their explosive shells slamming into its side and tearing chunks of carapace away. But the beast didn''t falter¡ªit slammed its tusks into the ground, tearing through the earth and destabilizing the trench. The marines stationed there shouted in panic, scrambling to climb out as the walls of the trench caved in, burying some of them alive. A Hydralisk seized the opportunity, slithering into the gap and launching its deadly spines. Several marines fell where they stood, their armor punctured by the razor-sharp projectiles. "Dammit!" I hissed, slamming my hand against the wall I was leaning against. From the top of the dam, I could see it all¡ªthe chaos, the desperation, the blood. Marines were falling, their bodies crumpling under the relentless assault. The Firebats tried to stem the tide, their flamethrowers igniting clusters of Zerglings, but they were overwhelmed. One of them fell, its pilot dragged down by the claws of a Zergling pack that tore through his armor with savage efficiency. The Siege Tanks were holding their positions, their cannons roaring as they targeted the Ultralisks and larger groups of enemies. But even they weren''t immune to the chaos. A group of Mutalisks swooped down from above, their sharp screeches piercing through the noise of the battle. They unleashed a barrage of glaive wurms, the bouncing projectiles striking one of the tanks and reducing it to a fiery wreck. Jack let out a low whistle beside me, his knuckles white as he gripped his staff. "This is bad," he said, his voice tense. "No kidding" I muttered, my heart pounding as I frantically issued new commands. "SCVs, get to the collapsed trench and reinforce it. Marines use stims and focus on the Mutalisks. Tanks spread out don''t let them cluster on you." The holographic interface flickered in response; my orders were relayed instantly to the units below. Beside me, the dryads were silent, their wide eyes glowing faintly as they watched the battle unfold. The smallest one clung to the edge of the dam, peering over as if fascinated by the chaos. "Ivory!" Jack''s voice snapped me out of my focus. I turned to see him pointing toward the left flank, where four banglings were barreling towards the defenses. The Siege Tanks fired at it, their shells thundering around it missing, but it kept coming. It smashed into a bunker, acid spraying onto the reinforced walls melting them like they were ice. The marines concentrated their fire, their bullets riddling the creature''s sides that swarmed through, but it wasn''t enough. Another bunker fell, and the marines stationed inside spilled out, retreating toward the dam. I stepped back from the console, my chest heaving as I tried to steady myself. The battle was slipping out of control, the Swarm pressing harder with every passing second. "Fuck it time to break out the big guns." I stepped on top of the dam and spun in a circle. As I turned in slow, deliberate circles, a faint glow began to ripple outward from where my feet touched the stone. It spread like ripples on water, casting the pillar in an otherworldly light. With each rotation, the air grew heavier, charged with an energy that made the hair on my arms stand on end. The light around me began to take shape, coalescing into flickering shadows that shimmered like smoke caught in a beam of moonlight. When I stopped spinning, I opened my eyes to see them specters, a circle of figures floating silently around me. They were cloaked in ragged garments that seemed to shift and flutter, even in the stillness. Their faces were obscured by deep hoods, but faint glimmers of light shone where their eyes should have been¡ªcold, calculating, and eerily calm. They hovered effortlessly, their tattered cloaks trailing like ghostly veils as they moved in perfect unison. I pointed suddenly at the smallest one who was still clinging to the edge of the dam. "Hit it!" The dryad''s eyes visibly widen before she lets go and drops slightly from peering over the edge and scampers back to the piano before music begins to play from the piano. "Hi, hi, we''re your weather girls," I sang, my voice cutting through the chaos below, carrying over the battlefield like a strange, defiant anthem. As I sang, I could feel the scales across my neck begin to move fluttering against each other opening and closing leaving an eldritch echoey to the words leaving my lips "And have we got news for you! You better listen..." Jack''s jaw dropped slightly as the opening chords echoed across the dam. "You''re joking. This is your big plan?" I grinned, as I leaned into the next line as the specters floated behind me ready to be the chorus. "Get ready, all you lonely girls, and leave those umbrellas at home!" As the words left my lips, something shifted in the sky. Above the dam, where the void once stretched endlessly, pinpricks of light began to appear. At first, they were faint¡ªtiny stars flickering into existence one by one. "Humidity is rising (Mm rising), barometer''s getting low (How low, girl?) According to all sources (What sources now?) The streets the place to go (you better hurry up) The stars grew brighter, their light cutting through the dim haze of the pale moon. They weren''t stationary anymore; they were moving, streaking across the sky in synchronized patterns. Jack followed my gaze, his expression transforming from amused disbelief to wary curiosity. "Ivory... what are those?" I closed my eyes and spread my arms wide, my voice rising putting all I could into the song as the specter''s chorus rose full of fervor weaving through the air as they joined me. "Cause tonight for the first time, Just about half-past ten For the first time in history, its gonna start raining me." "It''s raining men, hallelujah, it''s raining men, amen!" As I belted out the words, the stars began to take shape. The light surrounding them faded, revealing metallic forms streaking through the atmosphere with trails of flame. They weren''t stars they were drop pods. The first one roared over the dam, so close I could feel the heat of its engine. It slammed into the ground just beyond the trenches crushing a Zergling that was unlucky enough to be in its path, kicking up a plume of dirt and debris. The door burst open, and a squad of marines poured out, their rifles firing as they exited. "I''m gonna go out, I''m gonna let myself get absolutely soaked in rain!" More drop pods followed, each one landing with a thunderous crash. Chapter 7 - The Fall, The Queen, and The Conman Chapter 7 - The Fall, The Queen, and The Conman (Jack Frost POV) The last drop pod slammed into the ground with a deafening crash, its impact sending plumes of dirt and debris into the air. The battlefield was an inferno of violence, gunfire rattling, explosions roaring, and the relentless chittering of the Swarm echoing in the darkness. Ivory''s army had reinforced the trenches, but the fight was far from over. The Swarm surged forward, throwing itself at the defenses with mindless aggression. I stood at the Dam''s edge, gripping my staff tightly as I surveyed the carnage below. Miles beneath us, the land was a writhing sea of alien horrors Zerglings scrambling over one another, Hydralisks rearing up to fire their deadly spines, and massive Ultralisks cleaving through wreckage like titans of war. It was chaos. And it wasn''t slowing down. Then I heard her voice. "Jack." I turned to look at Ivory. She stood near the spectral piano, her golden eyes glowing faintly under the pale moonlight. Her expression was sharp, calculating, but beneath it was something else, conviction. "You need to jump." I blinked at her. "I need to what now?" "Jump" she repeated, stepping closer. "Get down there. Freeze them. Slow them down. Work your magic. I let out a short laugh, gripping my staff tighter. "Are you insane? That''s a mile drop!" "You''ll survive" she said smoothly. "You''re Jack Frost." I stared at her, then back at the battlefield below, then back at her. She had that look in her eyes the I''m-already-right-so-hurry-up-I-know-you-want-to. "You better have a backup plan" I muttered. Her lips curled into a smirk. "Trust me." I shook my head, exhaling sharply. "Alright, Commander. One last snow day, coming up." I turned back to the battlefield, took one step forward, and leaped off the dam. The wind roared in my ears as I plummeted. The dam stretched impossibly high above me now, a monolithic wall that seemed to scrape the heavens. My jacket fluttered around me, flapping wildly as I spun through the air. And then, as if on cue, her voice rose behind me. "Where have all the good men gone, and where are all the gods?" I twisted mid-air, glancing up. Ivory stood tall at the top of the dam, her glowing instruments forming a shimmering ring around her. The dryads flanked her, their ethereal fingers brushing against the spectral strings and drums as they followed her lead. Her voice soared, clear and commanding, rising above the battlefield like a beacon. "Where''s the streetwise Hercules to fight the rising odds?" Something in the air shifted. I felt it. A warmth spread through my chest, then down my limbs. It wasn''t the scorching heat of battle, nor the pulsing burn of exhaustion. It was something else, something pure. My energy surged, a sky-blue pulse running along my veins. My movements sharpened, my body felt lighter, my power thrummed stronger. "Isn''t there a white knight upon a fiery steed?" I turned my gaze forward. The Swarm was getting closer. The ground was still miles below, but Hydralisks had begun to track my descent, their ridges flaring as they locked onto me. I grinned. "Alright, bugs. Let''s dance." The first volley came fast. Hydralisk spines cut through the air like spears, shrieking as they hurtled toward me. I released a burst of snow to the side causing me to twist to the side, flipping mid-air as they sliced past, missing except for one that sliced against my arm. "Late at night, I toss and I turn, and I dream of what I need!" Her song surged, and I felt it as the bruises from battle along with the cut I just gained started healing at a visible rate. I landed on the back of a Mutalisk mid-flight, my boots skidding across its slick carapace as it shrieked in protest. Before it could do anything to try and buck me off, I flipped off its back, driving my staff into the creature''s skull as I pushed off. Ice spread from the wound in an instant, crystallizing over the Mutalisk''s body before it shattered into a thousand shards. "I need a hero! I''m holding out for a hero till the end of the night!" I fell past the wreckage, twisting mid-air to avoid a flurry of Zerglings leaping toward me from the wall of the dam as a seemingly endless amount of them kept climbing. The song kept building, and so did my power, as they did I landed hard on the side of an Ultralisk, its massive form lumbering forward as it crushed metal and bodies beneath its monstrous feet. My fingers curled tighter around my staff as I looked for any gaps in its plating. "He''s gotta be strong, and he''s gotta be fast, and he''s gotta be fresh from the fight!" I plunged the end of my staff into a gap between two rotating plates by its legs, frost exploding outward. Ice spiraled across its body, freezing the muscle beneath its armored hide. It roared, thrashing violently as I vaulted off before it collapsed into a frozen ruin. "I need a hero!" I hit the ground in a roll, flipping onto my feet. The Zerg around me hissed, their glowing eyes locking onto me. "Yeah, yeah, I get it" I muttered, spinning my staff. "You''re all mad." The Swarm surged forward and so did I. Faster than before. Ivory''s song was still filling the air, and the power from it kept growing inside me. My ice lashed out, freezing waves of Zerglings in their tracks. Hydralisks fired, but I weaved through them, my staff spinning in a blur of movement. I slammed my foot into the ground, sending a wave of frost racing outward. The battlefield began to change. Snow coated the land, ice started crawling up the Zerg''s legs, slowing them, weakening them. For the first time since the battle had begun¡ the Swarm hesitated. "He''s gotta be sure, and it''s gotta be soon, and he''s gotta be larger than life!" I grinned, exhaling cold mist as I stood amidst the frozen carnage. My body felt light, powerful, alive. Then I turned my gaze toward the twin tears in the sky, That was where I needed to be. I crouched low, the frost beneath my feet spreading outward in jagged veins. The power from Ivory''s song surged through me, my body humming with energy that wasn''t mine alone, it was hers too, flowing through her voice, through the very air. My breath misted as I exhaled sharply, gripping my staff tighter. With a single burst of strength, I launched myself skyward, ice trailing behind me in a spiraling arc. The battlefield blurred beneath me, a chaotic storm of gunfire, flames, and chitinous bodies crashing against metal and earth. I pushed higher, the wind howling past my ears, the energy pulsing in my veins. And then, I realized I wasn''t going to make it. The tears loomed impossibly high above, twisting and writhing in the fabric of reality, spewing forth an unending torrent of Zerg. I wasn''t even close. Gravity began to claw me back down, the weight of my mistake pulling at me. "Damn it" I muttered, twisting mid-air, searching Then I saw them. A swarm poured from the tears, tumbling down like a living waterfall of claws, teeth, and grotesque limbs. An idea sparked a reckless and dangerous idea. I angled my body and kicked off the frozen air, redirecting myself toward the nearest creature. A Hydralisk, its serpentine form twisting as it emerged from the tear and began to fall. I landed hard on its ridged back, my feet sliding along its thick carapace. The creature screeched, flailing wildly as it plummeted toward the battlefield. "I need a hero!" Ivory''s voice rang out, stronger than before, her power spiking in the air like a living current. My body thrummed with the pulse of her song, and I used the moment to push forward. My foot left the Hydralisk''s back just as it tumbled downward, and I landed on the next creature a Mutalisk, its leathery wings flapping erratically as it tried to correct itself. The wind tore at my clothes, but I didn''t stop moving. I sprinted along its back, my staff scraping against its hide, frost spreading wherever I touched. Then I leapt Higher again. A hulking Roach this time, flailing as it tumbled through the air, hissing at me as I entered its vision. I landed on its head, ice forming beneath my feet as I pushed off, using it as a platform for another jump. The sky became a battleground of its own, the Zerg pouring from the twin tears in endless waves. But now, I was climbing them like a salmon. Ivory''s voice carried me, her song filling every inch of the air, wrapping around me like an unbreakable force. "He''s gotta be strong, and he''s gotta be fast, and he''s gotta be fresh from the fight!" I leaped again higher, faster, my body practically weightless as I ascended. Another Mutalisk. Another Hydralisk. A leaping Zergling, its claws swiping wildly as I vaulted off its shoulders. The tears were closer. I could feel their energy now, the raw, chaotic force that spat out these creatures, an open wound in reality. I felt a certainty enter my bones, If I didn''t close them, the Swarm would never stop. I propelled myself upward, spinning in the air, my body cutting through the wind like a frozen bullet. The twin tears crackled before me, twisting violently, their colors shifting between unnatural hues of violet and pale blue. I landed on nothing. Or maybe something. The very edge of the tear was a swirling mass of energy that felt like standing on the surface of a storm. I had seconds, seconds before I was torn apart. "I need a hero!" The moment I heard that line I slammed my staff into the swirling chaos. Ice exploded outward, racing up the sides of the tears, consuming them in a spreading web of frost. The swirling energy fought back, twisting violently and shattering the ice trying to reject me, but I didn''t let go. Cold surged through me, raw and unfiltered, an avalanche of power surging from my core, my regeneration barely keeping up with the output, Ivory''s song feeding into me, pushing my limits beyond anything I''d ever felt before. The ice climbed higher, deeper, sinking into the fabric of the tears themselves. "I''m holding out for a hero till the end of the night!" The violet tear shuddered. Cracks splintered across its surface, frozen veins crawling through its very essence. Then, with a sound like shattering glass, it collapsed. The energy imploded inward, twisting into itself before vanishing into nothing but a thin line. The creatures still inside were cut off, their bodies severed mid-formation, dissolving into mist. I turned to the pale blue tear and leaped. It seemingly screamed as it felt what I had done to its twin, pulsing erratically. The moment I landed the end of my staff drove into its heart. The frost spread faster this time. It latched onto the tear like a living thing, consuming the energy before it could fight back. My arms trembled under the strain, my vision blurred with exhaustion, but I continued to hold on. "He''s gotta be strong, and he''s gotta be fast, and he''s gotta be fresh from the fight!" The second tear collapsed. And the sky went silent. For the first time since the battle had begun no new Zerg emerged. The wound in reality was sealed. I hovered there for a second, breathing hard, my entire body humming with the aftershock of power. The battlefield stretched below, a war still raging, but no longer an endless tide. Then, gravity reminded me that I was still miles above the ground. "Oh. Right" I muttered. I fell. The wind rushed past me as I plummeted, the dam once again a towering monolith below. The Swarm was still on the ground, but now¡ they were alone. No more reinforcements. No more endless waves. Ivory had stopped singing, but the last echoes of her voice still rang in my head, her energy still lingering in my body. I wasn''t just falling I was descending like a force of nature. As I neared the battlefield, I spun mid-air, gripping my staff tightly. One last move. ''Please don''t die, please don''t die, please don''t die, Please don''t die'' I swung my staff downward, sending a shockwave of frost roaring ahead of me. The ice erupted from the impact zone, racing forward in a tidal wave, freezing everything in its path. Zerg screeched as they were caught mid-motion, their bodies encased in thick layers of frost. I landed with a thunderous crack, the ice webbing out from beneath my bare feet. The battlefield stretched out before me, a frozen wasteland littered with the frozen bodies of the Zerg. The last of their monstrous forms were encased in ice, their movements stilled forever by the final wave of frost I had unleashed. Siege Tanks still hummed, their barrels aimed warily at the remains of the horde, while marines stood at the ready already walking down from the dam, their rifles raised in expectation of anything going wrong. I exhaled, my breath curling into the cold air, the weight of exhaustion finally settling into my limbs. My energy regeneration, heightened by Ivory''s song, had begun to fade back to normal, but I could still feel the residual power starting to fade as time passed. And then, as if reality itself acknowledged our victory, a holographic display materialized in the sky above the battlefield.
Round Over
The words gleamed in massive, violet letters, pulsing softly before fading away. The soldiers continued if nothing happened, not acknowledging the message in any way. I looked up at the dam, where Ivory still stood. She was watching the battlefield in silence, the moment when I was about to say something to her the world around me flickered. The ice beneath my feet cracked, but not in the usual way it shimmered as if reality itself was starting to come undone. And then everything shifted. _________________________________________ (Ivory''s POV) I opened my eyes to a sky that did not exist. Colors shifted above me, an endless void of swirling galaxies, burning nebulae, and ethereal lights. The stars themselves seemed to breathe, their hues pulsing in a rhythm that was neither fast nor slow, neither chaotic nor predictable. Rows upon rows of divine figures filled the amphitheater surrounding me. Some shimmered with golden light, their forms impossible to truly perceive. Others loomed in shadows, their eyes gleaming like distant stars. Some sat on thrones of fire, others on seats woven from vines, stone, or raw cosmic energy. Every culture, every pantheon, every cosmic force that had ever been worshiped or feared seemed to have a representative here. Jack stood beside me, but¡ not fully. I could see through him, his body flickering slightly, like a projection out of sync with reality. His gaze darted around, wide with surprise. His fingers twitched against his staff waiting. "Okay" he muttered under his breath. "This is new." I exhaled sharply, scanning the divine faces watching us. Some whispered, some chuckled, others simply observed in silence. Then, my gaze landed on a familiar figure lounging among them. Tony. I should have known. He sat on his throne, looking as casual as ever. Unlike the radiant or monstrous gods around him, he wore no grand celestial garb, no shifting cosmic form. He looked¡ human. Just a man in a comfortable seat, watching the show with an amused glint in his eyes. The same expression he had worn when granting my wishes. I exhaled slowly, rolling my shoulders. "I know why we''re here." Jack glanced at me. "Yeah? Because I''d love an explanation." I smirked. "We''re here because the gods are bored and this was a second part of my wish."Jack''s brows furrowed, and before he could press me for more details, I took a step forward. You''ve seen it all before." My voice carried through the amphitheater, cutting through the murmurs, drawing attention. "Kingdoms rise and fall. Mortals worship and rebel. Champions fight, die, and are replaced by the next. Some of you intervene directly, others move pieces from the shadows, but in the end, it''s the same stories, the same victories, the same losses. Over and over. Cycle after cycle." A few gods leaned forward, most scoffed. "You could keep things as they are" I continued, letting my gaze drift across the crowd. "You could sit in your thrones and watch eternity roll by, content in knowing that nothing ever truly threatens you." I paused. Then I smiled. "But where''s the fun in that?" A ripple of amusement passed through some of the gods. Others remained silent, their expressions unreadable. "You like to interfere" I said. "You like to play your games. But what if there was a way to do it better? Not just manipulating a single world, a single pantheon, a single cycle of mortals but an entire universe. A world where your champions clash with the best from other realms. A place where your grudges, your rivalries, your ancient disputes can finally be settled." I let the words sink in before pushing forward. "How long has it been since you were truly challenged? Since you had something to lose?" My smirk widened. "Some of you have debts unpaid. Rivalries left unfinished. Wouldn''t it be satisfying to see your contender best the chosen of a god who once humiliated you? To prove without whispers, without tricks who is truly superior?" The murmurs grew louder. Some gods exchanged looks, their expressions unreadable. "I''m not asking you to choose now" I said, raising a hand. "You don''t have to stake your power on a world that doesn''t exist yet. But I am asking you to watch. Observe. See what I build. And while you do, imagine what it would be like if you could interfere. If you could send your own champion if you could finally rewrite the stories that didn''t go your way." I crossed my arms. "And when that itch grows too strong to ignore when you finally decide that watching isn''t enough anymore¡" I gestured broadly. "Then you''ll know where to find me." Silence. Then, laughter soft from some, deep and rumbling from others. A god of war with jagged bronze armor smirked, nodding approvingly. A goddess wreathed in golden flames tilted her head thoughtfully. Others remained motionless, their faces unreadable. One of the elder gods his form woven from pure starlight leaned forward. "You propose an intriguing game" he said. "But do not presume we are so easily moved." I met his gaze without flinching. "Of course not. That''s why I''m not asking yet." Another god, her voice a whisper of shifting shadows, spoke next. "And if we decline? If we refuse to ever take part?" I shrugged. "Then don''t. But you''ll be watching anyway. And eventually, someone will break. Someone will want to interfere. And then the rest of you will have to decide to sit on the sidelines, or join the game, except the second hit will not be free." The murmurs grew louder. Some gods nodded in understanding. Others sneered in dismissal. But they were considering it That had to be enough. Jack exhaled beside me. "So, did you just convince a bunch of gods to throw their champions into a divine battle royale?" I smirked. "I wish, but give it a few years." Tony stretched, rolling his shoulders. "Well, that was entertaining," he mused. "Now, let''s see how you handle the next step." I narrowed my eyes. "Next step?" Then I noticed it. The floor beneath us was shifting, A circular mechanism rose from the obsidian ground, seamless and silent, until Jack and I were standing atop a platform that hadn''t been there moments before. Strange runes flickered along its edges, pulsing with divine energy. Taken from Royal Road, this narrative should be reported if found on Amazon. Jack frowned. "I really don''t like where this is going." Tony grinned. "Try to land on your feet." Before I could demand an explanation, the platform launched. A force unlike anything I had ever felt slammed into me, sending us rocketing toward a swirling breach in the sky. The gods blurred around us as we ascended, their expressions ranging from amused to indifferent. Some watched with curiosity, others had already lost interest. The breach loomed closer. A tear in reality, its edges flickering with raw, shifting energy. I barely had time to take a breath before we hit it And everything went white. I became aware of a profound stillness. We were suspended in a void, an expanse devoid of light, sound, or substance. Yet, as if the very fabric of existence awaited reformation. Gradually, the void began to yield Colors bled into the darkness, coalescing into nebulous forms. The air thickened, imbued with the scent of damp earth and blooming flora. A distant melody, haunting and ethereal, reached my ears, resonating with a deep, primal familiarity. The world crystallized around us, and we found ourselves descending through a sky suffused with twilight hues. Below lay a landscape that defied conventional understanding a realm where it seemed magic was not a mere undercurrent but the very essence of existence. The terrain was a tapestry of verdant forests, crystalline lakes, and rolling hills bathed in an otherworldly glow. Trees of impossible height stretched toward the heavens, their leaves shimmering with iridescent hues. Flowers of every conceivable color carpeted the meadows, their petals pulsating with an inner luminescence. As we drifted downward, I noticed the sky was adorned with multiple celestial bodies suns and moons of varying sizes and colors, casting a kaleidoscope of shadows upon the land. The air around us shimmered with latent magic, thick like morning mist, pressing against my skin with an almost sentient awareness. As we drifted downward through the enchanted sky of the Fair Lands, I felt the realm itself pulse watching, waiting. Jack moved beside me, his form flickering like an afterimage, edges distorted as though he were caught between existence and nothingness. "Okay," he muttered, waving his hand in front of my face. It passed right through me like mist. "Yeah. Definitely not solid." I barely had time to process his predicament before the world shifted around me. The moment my feet touched the ground, a pulse of energy rippled outward, racing across the land like lightning across a storm-dark sky. The trees trembled in recognition, their glowing leaves rustling in eerie unison. The crystalline pond behind us stilled, its surface suddenly mirror-smooth. Even the air itself seemed to hold its breath. Then, a system notification blinked into existence before my eyes, its Bright green text burning against the deep violet sky:
System Message:
Welcome to The Fair Lands, Queen of the Chaos Courts. The realm has been waiting.
Please select the location of your court for more options to unlock.
I blinked. Once. Twice. Jack peered over my shoulder, his spectral form casting no shadow, no weight. "Well, that sounds¡ ominous." ________________________________ (Various Faction POV Shift) In the Fair Lands, where magic intertwines with every breath and shadow, a profound announcement reverberated across its diverse territories. From the luminous groves of ¨¢lfheimr to the mist-laden isles of Avalon, an ethereal message resonated:
Realm Message:
"Hearken, denizens of the Fair Lands! The Queen of the Chaos Courts has returned. The realm has been waiting."
In the Luminous Groves of ¨¢lfheimr ¨¢lfheimr, the homeland of the Light Elves, is a realm bathed in perpetual twilight, where trees with silver bark and golden leaves stretch towards a sky awash with hues of pink and lavender. The air is alive with the soft hum of ancient melodies, and the very ground pulses with a gentle, rhythmic light. Eirian, a young Light Elf with hair like spun sunlight, paused in her daily ritual of tending to the luminescent flora. A sudden tremor in the ambient magic caused the petals of the flowers to shimmer more intensely. He looked up, his sapphire eyes widening as a cascade of images flooded her mind visions of a regal figure cloaked in shadows and light, stepping into their world. "Eirian!" called out Lyra, his mentor, her usually serene face etched with concern. "Did you feel that?" He nodded, eyes wide. "The Queen of the Chaos Courts... I thought she was but a legend." Lyra gazed towards the horizon, where the sky shimmered with unfamiliar hues. "Legends often have roots in truth. We must prepare for the unknown." In the Mystical Otherworld Deep within the Otherworld, where the veil between life and death is thin, the Tuatha D¨¦ Danann convened. Nuada, their leader, clenched his silver hand into a fist. "After eons, she returns" he mused. Brigid, the goddess of wisdom, stepped forward. "Her presence will disrupt the balance. The Chaos Courts are not known for their... predictability." Nuada''s eyes gleamed. "We shall see if her return heralds creation or destruction." On the Fortunate Isles The inhabitants of the Fortunate Isles, blessed with eternal youth, gathered under the golden boughs. Among them was Cian, a mortal granted passage to this paradise. "Does this mean change?" he asked, looking to the ever-youthful Fintan. Fintan smiled wistfully. "Change is the only constant, even here. The Queen''s return might bring challenges, but also opportunities." In the Eternal Realm of T¨ªr na n¨®g Liora, a maiden of unparalleled beauty, danced by the crystal-clear streams. Today, however, her steps faltered. "Why do I feel... unrest?" she wondered aloud. Aisling, an ancient seer, approached her. "The Queen of the Chaos Courts has returned. Her energy pulses through the land." Liora''s brow furrowed. "Is it a blessing or a curse?" Aisling''s eyes clouded. "Only time will tell." In the Sacred Groves of Avalon The priestesses of Avalon, guardians of ancient mysteries, felt a shift in the air. Morgaine, their leader, stood at the edge of the sacred lake. "She is here" Morgaine whispered, her reflection shimmering in the water. Viviane, the Lady of the Lake, emerged, her form ethereal. "The realm has awaited her return. The balance of power will shift." Morgaine nodded. "We must be vigilant." In the Shadowed Depths of the Unseelie Court Contrasting the Seelie, the Unseelie Court thrives in the mysterious and often darker aspects of the Fair Lands. Their domain is a labyrinth of ancient forests, where the moonlight barely pierces the dense canopy, and the air is thick with the scent of rich earth and untamed magic. Morrigan, a formidable figure with raven-black hair and eyes like storm clouds, felt a surge of power resonate through her territory. A predatory smile curved her lips. "So, the prodigal queen graces us with her presence at last." Her followers, a motley assembly of dark fae and other enigmatic beings, murmured among themselves, a mixture of excitement and apprehension evident. The power dynamics within the Unseelie Court had always been tumultuous, and the arrival of a potential leader could either unite them or sow further discord. In the Radiant Halls of the Seelie Court The Seelie Court, known for its benevolent and light-hearted fae, resides in a palace of crystalline spires and cascading waterfalls that sing harmonies of joy. The courtiers, adorned in garments woven from morning dew and sunlight, dance gracefully through the grand halls. Queen Titania, her presence commanding yet graceful, felt a subtle disturbance in the harmonious energies of her court. A delicate frown marred her otherwise serene visage. "What stirs the fabric of our realm so?" Puck, her ever-loyal attendant, materialized beside her, his eyes twinkling with mischief and curiosity. "My queen, whispers from the winds speak of the Chaos Queen''s arrival. The Fair Lands themselves acknowledge her presence." Oberon''s eyes narrowed slightly, a mix of concern and contemplation. "The Unseelie have long been without a unifying force. This could herald a new era... or unforeseen challenges." Among the Mortal Inhabitants of the Fair Lands Scattered throughout the Fair Lands are pockets of mortals who have found their way into this enchanted realm, either by fate or folly. Villages nestled in verdant valleys, untouched by time, where the inhabitants have adapted to the magical energies that surround them. In one such village, Aisling, a healer with a touch of fae ancestry, felt a sudden warmth in the crystal pendant she wore a family heirloom said to be linked to the very heart of the Fair Lands. The village elders spoke in hushed tones about ancient prophecies and the significance of the Chaos Queen''s return. "Does this mean change is upon us?" a young farmer asked, his brow furrowed with concern. Aisling offered a reassuring smile. "Change is the only constant in our strange world. We must trust in the balance of the Fair Lands and adapt as we always have." In the Sacred Glades of the Druids Deep within the Fair Lands lie sacred groves, where druids guardians of ancient wisdom and natural magic commune with the spirits of the land. These glades are places of profound serenity, where the veil between the physical and spiritual worlds is thin. Eochaid, a venerable druid with a beard like cascading snow and eyes that held the depth of ages, stood at the center of a stone circle. The ancient runes carved into the stones glowed faintly as he chanted incantations older than time itself. A sudden gust of wind rustled the leaves, carrying with it a whisper that only those attuned to the land could hear. Eochaid''s chanting ceased, and a knowing look settled upon his features. "The Chaos Queen walks among us once more," he murmured to his gathered disciples. "The equilibrium of our realm is poised on the edge of transformation. We must guide and protect the natural order during this pivotal time." __________________ (John Constantine POV) Bloody hell, I thought, surveying the surreal landscape before me. The Fair Lands. Not exactly on my list of holiday destinations. Yet, here I was, courtesy of a botched spell and a dash of bad luck¡ªa typical Tuesday. The air was thick with magic, almost tangible, like walking through a dense fog of enchantment. Colors seemed more vibrant, sounds more melodic, and the very ground beneath my feet pulsed with an otherworldly rhythm. It was as if the realm itself was alive, watching, waiting. I lit a cigarette, the familiar taste of tobacco grounding me amidst the overwhelming sensory overload. As I exhaled, the smoke curled into shapes runes and symbols I vaguely recognized from ancient texts. The Fair Lands had a way of twisting even the most mundane actions into something mystical. "Right then" I muttered to myself, "let''s see what fresh hell awaits." I trudged along a path that seemed to materialize beneath my feet, leading me deeper into the heart of this enchanted realm. The flora here was unlike anything in the mortal world trees with silver leaves that whispered secrets, flowers that glowed with an inner light, and vines that moved of their own accord, reaching out as if to touch me. As I walked, I couldn''t shake the feeling of being watched. Eyes unseen but palpable tracked my every move. It wasn''t paranoia; in the Fair Lands, the very environment was sentient, and it had taken a keen interest in the intruder wandering its domain. "Oi! Show yourselves!" I called out, my voice echoing strangely in the stillness. A soft, amused chuckle resonated from the shadows, and a tall, ethereal figure stepped forward. Their skin was as pale as alabaster, and their eyes shimmered like a sky full of stars. "John Constantine," the being said, their voice melodic but with a clear edge of annoyance. "The Fair Lands have been expecting you." "Have they now?" I replied, not even pretending to hide my disinterest. "Can''t say the feeling''s mutual." The figure''s lips curled into a tight smile, their expression an unsettling mix of respect and irritation. "You tread on sacred ground, mortal. Few of your kind are foolish enough to step here." "Yeah, well, I''m not exactly known for playing it safe," I shot back, flicking ash from my cigarette. "Mind telling me who you are?" "I am Alexandriel," the figure said, a subtle sneer in their voice. "A guardian of these lands. And you, Constantine, are... an inconvenience, a disruption in the natural order of things." "Sounds about right," I muttered. "Look, I''m just passing through. A bit of a magical mishap ended up here. I''ll be on my way once I figure out how." Alexandriel''s eyes narrowed, and I felt an almost tangible pressure settling around me, like the entire realm was holding its breath, waiting to see what I''d do next. "Be that as it may" Alexandriel said slowly, voice tinged with both exasperation and something that could only be described as reluctant respect, "your presence here hasn''t gone unnoticed. The Fair Lands are in a state of flux. The arrival of the Fae Chaos Queen has shaken the very foundation of our world." "Fae Chaos Queen?" I raised an eyebrow, clearly intrigued. "Sounds like a real handful." "She is a force of nature" Alexandriel replied, their tone more clipped now. "Her return brings upheaval both creation and destruction. The balance of our realm is in jeopardy." "And where do I fit into this mess?" I asked, a little more suspicion creeping into my voice. Alexandriel''s gaze was cold but calculating. "That remains to be seen. But know this, Constantine: The Fair Lands reveals truths you may not want to face. Tread carefully... or you''ll find yourself lost in ways even you can''t talk your way out of." With that, Alexandriel vanished into mist, leaving me alone with the weight of their words. ''One thing was clear: the Fair Lands had no love for me, but they were going to make sure I had a hand in whatever chaos was brewing here.'' "Brilliant" I muttered, rubbing my temples. "Just what I needed cryptic warnings and impending doom." I continued along the path, my mind racing. The Fae Chaos Queen''s arrival was clearly a big deal, and if the Fair Lands were as interconnected as they seemed, her presence would be felt everywhere. As I pondered this and continued to walk the trail, the landscape began to change. The vibrant colors dulled, and the melodic sounds turned discordant, The air grew heavy, and a sense of foreboding settled over me. "Looks like I''ve wandered into the wrong neighborhood" I muttered, glancing around warily. Ahead, I saw a group of figures gathered around a flickering flame. As I approached, I realized they were not human tall, slender beings with elongated limbs and eyes that glowed like embers. "Evening, gents" I said, raising a hand in greeting. The figures turned to me in unison, their expressions unreadable. "John Constantine" one of them hissed, the sound like steam escaping a kettle. "You should not be here, but we have been waiting." "Yeah, I''ve been getting that a lot" I replied. "But here I am. So, what''s the news? Heard anything about a Fae Chaos Queen making a grand entrance?" The figures exchanged glances, and I sensed a shift in the atmosphere. "The Fae Chaos Queen has returned" another figure said, its voice softer, almost mournful. "The balance is disrupted." The moment the words Fae Chaos Queen left that ember-eyed bastard''s lips, everything changed. A ripple of magic surged through the area, a tangible shift in the air that made my skin crawl. The trees shuddered, the ground pulsed, and suddenly, every single one of those lanky, whispering fae around the fire turned to stone-faced silence. Then they ran. Not a dignified retreat, either, a proper scrambling. Clawed hands and spindly legs, robes fluttering as they bolted into the enchanted forest like their lives depended on it. Maybe they did. Maybe mine did, too, if I stood here too long. I didn''t even need to ask why, only one bastard makes fairies run like their wings are on fire, Neron. A ruler of Hell had his fingers in the Fair Lands? Bloody fantastic. Another problem for another day. It was just my luck on running around into the demon''s lackeys waiting to sniff me out. But luck, for once, was on my side. One straggler left. Waifish little thing, small even for fairie standards, left blinking in confusion as the rest of his mates disappeared into the night. I sighed, shoving my hands into my coat pockets. "Right, Flutterbee" He flinched. Big, dewy eyes, all shimmering and bright, like he was caught between fight and flight but couldn''t quite decide which way to go. "You-you know my name?" he stammered. I squinted at him. "''Course I do, mate. Magic realm, names have power, yadda yadda. Anyway, how do you fancy a trip?" Flutterbee cocked his head. "A¡ trip?" "Yeah. You''re gonna take me to New York," I said, voice flat, decisive. His wings twitched. "New York? As in... the mortal realm?" "That''s the one." I pulled my cigarette from my lips, flicking ash onto the glowing moss beneath my feet. "Should be easy for you, yeah? A quick hop, skip, and a jump through whatever bloody fae nonsense gets you lot to my world." Flutterbee swallowed hard, clearly weighing his options. His gaze darted toward the tree line, but he knew better than to run. Poor bastard was too nervous to disobey and too na?ve to see what was coming. "I¡ªI could do that," he finally admitted. "But why should I?" I smiled. "Because if you do, you get to keep breathing." His tiny wings fluttered so fast they blurred. "Ah! Yes! Of course! Right away, Mister Constantine, sir!" I grinned, slapping him on the back. "That''s the spirit. Now, let''s get going before your mates sell you out to Neron for a pat on the head." Turns out, getting out of the Fair Lands wasn''t as hard as getting in. Flutterbee''s magic made it look insultingly easy some shimmering, prismatic portal nonsense, a few whispered incantations, and bam. The swirling void of fairie trickery opened up, and through it, I saw the neon-lit sprawl of good ol'' Manhattan. No grand farewells. No lingering looks. No more gods, elves, or talking trees. Just a doorway between worlds and the poor sod who made it happen. "Right then" I said, rolling my shoulders as I stepped toward the portal. "Off we go." Flutterbee beamed. "Oh! This is wonderful! Maybe..maybe I could see the mortal world for a bit? Just to¡ª" Snap. His body crumpled like a puppet with its strings cut, delicate wings fluttering uselessly before he hit the ground. I let him fall without ceremony, stepping over his limp form. "Sorry, mate," I muttered, flicking my cigarette into the swirling portal. "Can''t have you blabbing about this later." I stepped through. And just like that, John Constantine was back in the mortal world.
