《Kingdom Hearts: Consumed by Darkness》 Chapter 1 Helios leaned back against the rough rooftop surface, gazing at the twilight sky as a soft breeze swept across his face. The golden light of the setting sun cast a warm glow over the city of Nightfall, painting the clouds in hues of orange and pink. This was his favorite time of day. For a brief moment, the chaos below seemed to quiet, offering him a rare sense of calm. He closed his eyes, letting the stillness take over. His thoughts wandered to simpler days, a time before everything had changed. Growing up, Helios had always been the laid-back kid who never had to try too hard. Born and raised in the bustling streets of Nightfall, he knew every corner, every shortcut. The rougher parts of town didn¡¯t intimidate him¡ªthey shaped him. Street smarts came naturally, and luck had a habit of favoring him. No matter how much trouble he found himself in, he always managed to slip out unscathed. Memories flashed through his mind: carefree days running through the streets with his friends, playing warriors and sparring for fun. Over time, those playful fights sharpened his reflexes, making him a natural fighter without even realizing it. Dodging a punch became as instinctive as dodging traffic. Then came memories of his parents, working tirelessly to keep their heads above water. They lived in a tiny, run-down apartment, but it was home, and Helios had been happy there. When he wasn¡¯t helping out, he was either reading¡ªdevouring every book he could find¡ªor out on adventures with his friends. Now, perched on the rooftop of that same apartment building, Helios opened his eyes, blinking at the fading sun as it dipped lower in the sky, casting a final glow of orange and gold before melting into the deep blue of night. He gazed at the skyline¡ªan eclectic mix of towering skyscrapers and flickering neon signs. The city had always been his home, but lately, it felt... different. Colder. Distant. Tall and lean, with dark blue hair and striking blue eyes, Helios wore a black leather jacket over a simple white t-shirt. His jeans, frayed at the hems from years of wear, completed the image of someone who had lived through it all. His quiet confidence gave him an air of mystery to those who didn¡¯t know him well. A case of theft: this story is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation. Beneath that exterior, however, was a kind heart. Helios had always been loyal to a fault, standing by his friends even when they didn¡¯t necessarily deserve it. He would go to great lengths to protect the people he cared about. As he sat in thought, something unsettled him. There had been moments recently¡ªbrief but vivid¡ªwhere memories surfaced that didn¡¯t feel like his. Dark memories. He shook his head, pushing them aside. He wasn¡¯t in the mood to dwell on those tonight. Looking down at the street below, his attention was drawn to a group of teenagers gathering on the corner, their voices carrying all the way up to the rooftop. They were arguing. At the center of it, a tall kid held a baseball bat, his stance aggressive. For a moment, Helios just watched, weighing his options. He could step in or walk away. His mother had always told him that violence solved nothing, but Helios knew that wasn¡¯t always the case. Sometimes, standing up meant taking action, even if it meant things got messy. With a sigh, he stood and jumped down from the rooftop, landing effortlessly in the side alley. As he approached the group, his hands remained in his pockets, his demeanor relaxed. ¡°Hey, what¡¯s going on here?¡± he asked, his voice casual. The teenagers turned, sizing him up. The one with the bat stepped forward, scowling. ¡°Who the hell are you?¡± ¡°Just someone passing by,¡± Helios shrugged. ¡°Doesn¡¯t look like this needs to get violent. Why don¡¯t we all chill?¡± The bat-wielding kid sneered and stepped closer. ¡°We don¡¯t need your help. Get lost.¡± Helios felt the tension in the air, that familiar tingle that came just before a fight. The kid swung the bat, but Helios was faster. He sidestepped easily, grabbed the bat mid-swing, and twisted it out of the teen¡¯s hands, pinning his arm behind his back in one swift motion. ¡°Look,¡± Helios said calmly, ¡°this isn¡¯t worth it.¡± The rest of the group stared, unsure of what to do. Slowly, they backed off, leaving their friend behind. Helios released the teen, who glared at him before storming off into the shadows, his pride bruised but unharmed. As the group dispersed, Helios felt the adrenaline drain, leaving him with a familiar sense of satisfaction. He didn¡¯t need to go overboard, and no one got hurt. He made his way back to the rooftop, breathing in the cool night air as he settled back into his spot. Sitting there, a small smile crept onto his face. He was proud of how he¡¯d handled the situation. Once again, he looked out at the city¡ªa sprawling metropolis that never slept, always alive with its own rhythm. Despite its size and constant motion, Nightfall was still home to him, filled with secrets and memories he knew better than anyone. Helios¡¯s thoughts drifted back to his childhood. The neighborhood had been rough, filled with gangs and violence. His parents had struggled to make ends meet, and Helios had learned to fend for himself early on. But despite it all, he¡¯d never lost his sense of wonder. He¡¯d always been curious, eager to explore and learn. Books had been his escape. They introduced him to the concepts of courage and heroism, tales of ordinary people doing extraordinary things. Those stories had shaped him, inspired him to find his own moment of greatness. Now, as he sat on the rooftop, watching the city breathe, Helios had the feeling that something was coming. Something big. But he wasn¡¯t afraid. Whatever it was, he knew he was ready¡ªstrong, resourceful, and brave. That would be enough. Chapter 2 As Helios gazed at the setting sun, an unsettling feeling tugged at him. It was like a storm gathering on the horizon¡ªvague, but undeniable. His intuition had always been sharp, a sixth sense for danger that had kept him safe more times than he could count. He trusted it, even though he couldn¡¯t yet pinpoint the threat. Rising to his feet, he surveyed the city skyline, knowing he had to be ready. Strength, both physical and mental, was key. Whatever was coming, Helios needed to face it head-on. As he made his way back to his apartment, he scanned the streets for anything unusual, a habit born from experience. Better cautious than caught off guard. When he reached his building, he hurried up the stairs, two at a time, the unease still gnawing at him. Inside, he locked the door behind him, feeling a momentary sense of relief. He was home¡ªsafe, for now. But the feeling of impending doom clung to him, stubbornly refusing to fade. Helios sat at his desk, pulling out his notebook. Writing always calmed his nerves, so he let the ideas flowing through his mind spill onto the page. As the hours passed, he lost himself in the story, almost forgetting the strange sense of foreboding. When he finished, he looked at the title: Kingdom Hearts. A strange realization struck him¡ªit didn¡¯t feel like he had written the story. It felt more like he had remembered it, as if it had always existed somewhere deep in his mind. As he read through the tale of a boy named Sora battling creatures called the Heartless, his eyelids grew heavy. The next thing he knew, he was dreaming. In the dream, Helios watched Sora fight, his movements haphazard yet still powerful. At first, it seemed absurd, but there was no denying the strength behind each strike. Sora¡¯s journey and the enemies he faced stirred something within Helios. He felt like he knew who they were especially those that wore the black cloaks. But the dream was cut short. A loud noise jolted Helios awake. He groggily realized it was just his alarm. The early rays of dawn streamed through the window, warming his face as he turned it off. Rubbing his eyes, Helios got ready for the day, but the restless feeling lingered. Something was still off. He decided to go for a walk, hoping fresh air would clear his mind. As he strolled through the city, he noticed a figure approaching him from the distance. The person was tall and lean, draped in a long, dark coat that fluttered in the breeze. The sight was eerily familiar¡ªjust like the figure in his dream. The coat, the deep-set yellow eyes under the hood, the unnatural darkness hiding their face¡ªit was all the same. However, dreams and reality were different so was he hallucinating. The man stopped before him, his gaze intense. ¡°You¡¯re Helios, aren¡¯t you?¡± His voice was low and gravelly, sending a chill down Helios¡¯s spine. Helios blinked in confusion. Although he dreamed of such a coat He had heard the voice of this man before, yet the stranger seemed to know him. Feeling a sharp pain Helios supported his head. ¡°Yes, I am. Who are you?¡± Helios asked, trying to mask his unease. You could be reading stolen content. Head to the original site for the genuine story. The man smirked, his eyes gleaming. ¡°Just a stranger passing through. But I¡¯ve heard about you. They say you¡¯re strong¡ªsomeone with a heart that burns bright. Now that I see you, I¡¯m inclined to agree. So I¡¯d like to test that.¡± Helios tensed, instincts screaming that something was wrong. ¡°I don¡¯t know what you¡¯re talking about. I have somewhere to be,¡± he muttered, turning to leave. He didn¡¯t want to find out if this man really was connected to his dream. The stranger¡¯s chuckle followed him. ¡°No need to run, young Helios. I believe you have potential¡ªa fire in your heart that only a few possess. I¡¯ll put that to the test soon. Whether you survive will depend on your strength. I hope you¡¯ll show me something interesting young man.¡± Helios¡¯s pulse quickened as he hurried away, but when he glanced back, the man had vanished into the crowd, as if he were never there. He made his way back home, thoughts racing. Who was that man? And why did he seem so familiar? As he reached his apartment, his parents greeted him with wide smiles. It was unusual for them to be home early. Then he remembered¡ªit was his birthday. They hugged him tightly, wishing him a happy birthday and revealing they had taken the day off to celebrate. Helios, momentarily distracted from the encounter, was touched by the gesture. They went out to a nice restaurant, laughing and sharing stories. The tension in his chest began to ease. During the meal, his mother smiled warmly. ¡°We¡¯re so proud of you, Helios. You¡¯ve come a long way.¡± His father nodded. ¡°You¡¯re a strong young man. We don¡¯t care what path you take, as long as you¡¯re happy. We¡¯re grateful to have you as our son.¡± Helios smiled, feeling a warmth spread through him. ¡°Thanks, Mom, Dad. I¡¯m grateful too¡ªeverything I¡¯ve achieved is because of you.¡± They exchanged gifts, his parents giving him a new watch with a built-in recorder. ¡°We left a message for you,¡± his mother said with a wink. ¡°Play it when you¡¯re alone.¡± Later that night, after his parents had gone to bed, Helios sat on the edge of his bed, staring at the new watch they had given him. His fingers brushed over its smooth surface, and he smiled at the memory of the dinner. It had been a good distraction from the strange events of the day. Yet, as the quiet of the night settled in, the encounter with the man in the dark coat lingered in his mind. Curiosity got the better of him, and he decided to check the recording his parents had left for him on the watch. Helios pressed a button, and his parent¡¯s voice filled the room. ¡°Hey, Helios. Honey, are you sure it¡¯s recording? Yes, I¡¯m sure now let¡¯s say what we wanted to say. We wanted to give you something special, something more than just a watch. We wanted to give you... a message, something to carry with you no matter where life takes you.¡± His father¡¯s lone voice then filled the room. ¡°Son, I want you to know that the proudest and happiest moment of my life was the day you were born. It was my joy and privilage to watch over you as you grew into the young man I see. I know I haven¡¯t always been the best dad but I just want to say I love you and I¡¯m proud of the man you¡¯re growing into.¡± His mother¡¯s voice followed, gentle but firm. ¡°We love you, Helios, more than anything. No matter what happens, know that you have a family who will always be by your side. We¡¯re so proud of you, and we believe you can accomplish anything. But just remember¡ªyour happiness matters the most. Also honey, what do you mean that was the happiest moment; what about when you married me?¡± Helios felt a warmth rise in his chest again as he laughed. His goofy parents messed up and recorded all this extra stuff but he still liked it. He laid back in bed, but sleep eluded him. Every time he closed his eyes, he saw those deep-set yellow ones staring at him from under the hood. The man¡¯s words echoed in his mind: ¡°I¡¯ll put you to the test...¡± Chapter 3 Helios woke up to the sound of rain tapping against his window. He groggily got out of bed and shuffled to the window to take a look outside. The sky was dark and grey, and the rain was coming down in sheets. He went through his morning routine, eating the breakfast his mom had left him while watching the weather report on TV. The weather woman on the news mentioned a dark storm cloud that had appeared nearby and was expected to reach the city by 7 p.m. in the evening. It would be a massive storm so all residents were advised to return home before then. Helios frowned. He had never heard of a storm cloud appearing out of nowhere like that. It didn¡¯t seem right. Strangly he wondered if it was related to the mysterious stranger he had encountered the day before. In the book he wrote about the dream he had there was a scenario similar to this. Helios shook his head, trying to dispel the dark thoughts. He needed to focus on the day ahead. He had school. Besides the weather radar might have simply failed to pick up this storm as it approached rather than believe a man from his dreams had conjured a storm. After finishing his breakfast, he sighed, knowing that it was going to be a miserable day. He quickly got dressed, grabbed his backpack, and headed out the door. As he walked to school, he noticed that the streets were nearly empty, with most people staying inside to avoid the rain. When he arrived at school, Helios noticed that the hallways were unusually also quiet. The only sound was the tapping of rain on the roof. He made his way to his classroom and took his seat, his sense of unease growing. As the day wore on, the rain continued to pour down. Helios couldn¡¯t shake the growing feeling that something was seriously wrong. During his last class, the teacher announced that school was being dismissed early due to the storm. Helios gathered his things and made his way outside, bracing himself for the onslaught of rain. As he walked, he noticed that the streets were still empty, with only a few people in cars hurrying home. He decided to take a shortcut through an alleyway, hoping to get home faster. But as he turned the corner, he saw a group of men standing in the shadows. Helios froze he recognized them as members of a local gang called Horizon, known for their violence and aggression. He knew he had to be careful and try to slip away unnoticed. But it was too late. One of the gang members spotted him and called out. ¡°Hey kid, what are you doing here?¡± he asked, stepping forward menacingly. Helios kept his voice polite and steady. ¡°I was just trying to get home,¡± he replied, his eyes scanning around, looking to spot an escape route for when things turned bad. The gang member laughed. ¡°Well, you¡¯re in the wrong place kid. This is our territory and if you want to pass by you have to pay a toll. Since you¡¯re a kid we won¡¯t ask for money how about that watch you have on your wrist there? Now hand it over.¡± Unlawfully taken from Royal Road, this story should be reported if seen on Amazon. Helios took a step back, clutching his backpack tightly. He knew that giving them his watch wouldn¡¯t be enough. They might want more, and he couldn¡¯t risk losing a gift given to him by his parents. ¡°I can¡¯t do that,¡± he said firmly. The gang member¡¯s expression turned dark. ¡°You think you¡¯re tough, huh? You¡¯re just a stupid kid. Give us what we want, or we¡¯ll make sure you regret it.¡± Helios could feel his heart racing. He had heard stories about what the Horizon gang did to people who crossed them. ¡°I¡¯m sorry, but I can¡¯t give you this. I can give you anything else,¡± he said, his voice still calm. The gang member took a step forward, and Helios could see the glint of a knife in his hand. He knew he was in trouble. Suddenly, a bolt of lightning flashed across the sky, followed by a deafening clap of thunder. The gang members turned their attention to the sudden commotion, giving Helios the opportunity to run. He didn¡¯t look back as he sprinted down the alley, his heart pounding in his chest. The rain was coming down harder than ever, and he was soaked to the bone. But he didn¡¯t care. All he could think about was escaping and getting home safely. When he finally made it back to his house, he was panting and gasping for breath. He quickly locked the door behind him and leaned against it, his heart still racing. He couldn¡¯t believe what had just happened. Encounters with the gang members weren¡¯t an everyday occurrence and had been terrifying, but the sudden thunderstorm had saved him. Helios took a deep breath and tried to calm himself down. He knew that he had to be more careful in the future, that he couldn¡¯t take shortcuts through dangerous areas like that. He took out his phone and tried calling both his parents. But to his surprise, the call went straight to voicemail without even ringing. He tried calling again, but the same thing happened. Helios began to panic. It was unusual for his parents not to answer their phones, especially when they knew he would be worried. They always made sure they could be reached in case of emergencies. He paced back and forth in his room, his mind racing as he kept calling them over and over. He didn¡¯t know what to do. Should he wait for his parents to come home or go out and look for them? He decided on the latter. Without wasting any time, he ran out of the house, pulling his hoodie up over his head to shield himself from the rain. He had a bad feeling about this. The storm, the gang, and now his parents not answering their phones ¨C it all seemed too coincidental. He¡¯s never had such an unlucky streak in his life. He knew where his parents worked, so he decided to head in that direction. The streets were nearly empty, with only a few cars passing by, and he felt this was strange Nightfall was the kind of city that never sleeps. Even in times of terrible storms like this, there were still quite a few people out and about until the very last minute. However here it was two hours before 7 p.m. and the streets were almost empty like the people had vanished. Helios sprinted in the direction of the company his parent worked at. As he reached the main road, he saw a group of Heartless; the creatures from his dreams were attacking people. They were moving quickly and unpredictably, and people were falling to the ground, turning into hearts that floated away. Helios was frozen with fear, watching the scene in disbelief. He felt like he was in a nightmare that he couldn¡¯t wake up from. But then, he saw his parents running towards him, waving their arms frantically. Chapter 4 In the midst of the chaos, he spotted his parents running towards him, waving their arms frantically. ¡°Helios, run! It¡¯s not safe here!¡± his father yelled, his voice filled with urgency. Helios felt a surge of relief and hope as he saw his parents. He ran towards them, dodging the Heartless and the panicking crowd. They met in the middle of the street, and Helios could feel his heart pounding with relief. But their reunion was short-lived. Wasting no time they held hands as they ran back in the direction of their home. As soon as they reached the corner of the street, a towering Darkside Heartless appeared before them, blocking their path. Helios¡¯ mother pushed him out of the way just as the Heartless tried to grab him. However, the Heartless still managed to grab both of his parents. ¡°Run, Helios! Run!¡± his parents yelled as they were caught by the Heartless. He took one last look at his parents, who were struggling to break free from the Heartless¡¯ grasp. He saw the look of concern and fear in their eyes. Helios could hear his parents yelling at him to run away, but he couldn¡¯t bring himself to leave them behind. He watched in horror as the Darkside Heartless squeezed its hand with dark energy, their screams echoing in his ears. Tears blurred his vision as he stared at his parents, their pained faces burned into his mind. Helios¡¯s legs felt like lead, his body trembling as the urge to run battled against the helplessness that gripped him. Their voices¡ªpleading, desperate¡ªechoed in his ears, but fear kept him rooted to the spot. He had never felt so powerless. Helios finally managed to move but he stumbled backwards and tripped over a curb, hitting his head on the pavement. He lay there, dazed and confused, as the Heartless continued their rampage through the city. As Helios lay there, dazed and gasping, a shadow passed over him. A hooded figure stood at his side, as if they had simply materialized from the storm itself. Glowing yellow eyes pierced the darkness, cold and indifferent, staring down at Helios with quiet judgment. He couldn¡¯t make out their face. The hooded figure¡¯s calm, chilling demeanor contrasted with the chaos around them. ¡°Who... who are you?¡± Helios managed to ask, his voice barely above a whisper. This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road. If you spot it on Amazon, please report it. The hooded figure sighed and shook their head. ¡°You are quite the disappointment, Helios. Your heart is already broken at the loss of your loved ones. You would not make for a worthy vessel. The only fate ahead of you is to be consumed by the darkness.¡± Helios felt a shiver run down his spine at the hooded figure¡¯s words. ¡°What... what do you mean? Consume?¡± The figure didn¡¯t answer. Instead, they reached out into the air and summoned a weapon that looked like a key. Its blade is long and sleek, with a jagged edge that glows with a malevolent energy. The handle is adorned with intricate black and silver designs, and the tip of the blade seemed to feature a single silver-green eye that seems to stare into the soul of its wielder. Helios felt a cold sensation spread through his body, as the hooded figure aimed the weapon into the sky, and a black beam shot from it. A black void opened above them and began sucking up everything. It consumed the people and heartless indiscriminately. Helios who couldn¡¯t move cried out in fear as his body began to float into the black void. Once inside the void, he saw nothing but blackness with the exception of two other people. They walked over to him and his eyes widened when he saw his parents. In the black void, the sight of his parents brought a surge of warmth to Helios¡¯s heart. His mother¡¯s touch was soft, familiar, as she gently cupped his cheek. ¡°My dear boy, you¡¯ve done enough. Close your eyes and sleep in the endless abyss. There you will feel no pain so close your eyes. It¡¯s okay to give in to the fear and despair.¡± But something about her words didn¡¯t feel right¡ªher voices were soothing, yet hollow, like echoes in a distant cave. ¡°Rest, Helios,¡± his father urged, his hand heavy on Helios¡¯s shoulder. ¡°You¡¯ve done enough. In the darkness, you¡¯ll find peace and we¡¯ll be together again.¡± Helios wanted to believe them, to let go of the fear and exhaustion¡ªbut a small, flickering part of him knew this wasn¡¯t real. Unbeknownst to Helios what he was seeing was simply an illusion as the shadows spread infecting his heart and body. Helios looked at his parents and slowly began to close his eyes. As he fell deeper into the darkness, he could hear the hooded figure¡¯s voice echoing in his mind. ¡°You were not strong enough to resist the darkness. You were a disappointment to the very end.¡± Helios felt a sense of despair and hopelessness wash over him. In his mind kept replaying the scene of his parents and how they had sacrificed everything for him. He thought about how he had failed them, how he hadn¡¯t been able to save them from the Heartless. Just as the darkness threatened to swallow him whole, a brilliant light erupted from within the void. Helios¡¯s eyes snapped open, drawn to the sudden warmth and radiance cutting through the shadows. Two glowing spheres shot upward, their light growing brighter as they pushed through the darkness. The shadows that had taken his parents¡¯ forms recoiled, disintegrating in the face of the light. ¡°Keep your hands off our son!¡±, his mother¡¯s voice rang out, strong and clear, filled with a fierce love that banished the lingering fear in Helios¡¯s heart. Chapter 5 As Helios lay there, barely conscious, two hearts flew down and shone a bright light, enveloping and protecting him. He looked up and saw his mother and father kneeling at his side, their love for him radiating from their very beings. ¡°Mom¡ Dad¡¡± said Helios before losing consciousness. The hooded figure laughed as he observed the scene before him. ¡°Ah a parent¡¯s love for their child truly is one of the purest forms of light I have seen in all my travels,¡± he said. ¡°But you should know that if you stay in there, your hearts will be extinguished. You should let him go and save yourselves.¡± Helios¡¯ mother and father looked at each other, then back at their son. ¡°We would never abandon our son,¡± his mother said firmly. ¡°We will always keep him safe.¡± The hooded figure snorted. ¡°Foolish sentimentality. Your love will be your undoing.¡± He raised his weapon once more, preparing to strike. But as he swung the blade down towards Helios, the light around him grew even brighter, pushing back against the darkness. The hooded figure recoiled, his eyes widening in surprise. ¡°This...this is impossible!¡± he exclaimed. ¡°How is this light so strong?¡± Helios¡¯ parents smiled at each other, then turned to face the hooded figure. ¡°It is the power of love,¡± they said in unison. The figure snarled and lunged forward, but the light grew even brighter, blinding him. With a cry of frustration, he vanished into a portal of darkness. Helios¡¯ parents remained at his side, protecting him with their light. And as he drifted off into a peaceful sleep, Helios smiled as the warm light radiated warmth and love. Helios remained unconscious, protected by the light that his parents had created to shield him from the encroaching darkness. But the darkness kept trying to break through, its malevolent energy cracking and warping the light around him. Despite their best efforts, cracks started forming on his parents¡¯ bodies, and the light grew dimmer and dimmer with time. They knew they couldn¡¯t keep it up for long, so they made the difficult decision to sacrifice themselves. ¡°We can¡¯t keep this up for long,¡± Helios¡¯ mother said, her voice strained. ¡°We need to find a way to cut through the darkness and get him out of here.¡± Helios¡¯ father nodded, his eyes filled with determination. ¡°We¡¯ll use everything we have in one go. It¡¯s the only way to save our son.¡± Support the creativity of authors by visiting the original site for this novel and more. The darkness intensified, and Helios¡¯ parents poured everything they had into their last attack. A blinding light filled the void, and the darkness was pushed back. The light condensed and pushed forward making a path. With the last of their strength, the two sent Helios hurtling down that path as cracks form all over their bodies. It seemed they had pushed their hearts to the brink and they had begun to fall apart. Before they disappeared, his parents held hands and looked into each other¡¯s eyes. ¡°I love you,¡± his mother whispered. ¡°I love you too,¡± his father replied, his voice barely above a whisper. They turned to Helios, tears streaming down their faces. ¡°We wish for you to be happy in the future,¡± his mother said, her voice barely audible over the roar of the darkness. ¡°Even if it¡¯s hard and painful, keep going. We will always be with you in spirit. We love you, my beautiful boy.¡± As Helios lay there, still unconscious, his heart feeling the loss of his parents, he shed two tears. When he finally woke up, he found himself lying on a beach of black sand, with a dark and foreboding ocean stretching out before him. On the other side, a forest of structures like warped trees loomed, casting twisted shadows all around him. Over the ocean, a solitary light source glowed, casting an eerie light that was neither bright nor warm. Helios tried to sit up, but a wave of memories assaulted his mind, causing him great pain. He screamed, clutching his head as he writhed in agony, until he collapsed onto the ground once more. ¡°Why do I feel like I¡¯ve seen this place before?¡± Helios muttered to himself as he clutched his head in confusion. ¡°It seems you have,¡± a voice replied from behind him. Helios turned around to see a figure standing behind him. The figure was humanoid in shape, but its body was composed of the same dark energy that had consumed his parents. ¡°Who... who are you?¡± Helios asked, his voice trembling with fear. ¡°I am the one who brought you here as you floated in the space between worlds,¡± the figure replied, its voice echoing ominously across the beach. ¡°I am the one who will show you the truth buried in your heart.¡± Helios struggled to his feet, glaring at the figure. ¡°What truth? What do you want from me?¡± The figure laughed. ¡°I want nothing from you, dear boy. I simply want you to embrace the truth. The truth that you have been running from your whole life.¡± ¡°What truth?¡± Helios demanded, his fists clenched at his sides. ¡°The truth that your parents really meant nothing to you,¡± the figure replied. ¡°The truth is that they were never your real parents. You don¡¯t belong here.¡± Helios felt his heart skip a beat. ¡°What... what do you mean? Of course, they were my parents!¡± The figure shook its head. ¡°No, boy. They were simply vessels, chosen to raise you as their own. You are not of this world, Helios. You are not even of this universe.¡± Helios felt his world crumble around him. ¡°That¡¯s... that¡¯s not possible. I... I don¡¯t believe you!¡± The figure laughed. ¡°Believe what you will, boy. The truth will always find a way to reveal itself. And when it does, you will understand everything, including the fact that the love they had for you means nothing. Before I leave, I shall give you a gift. I shall drag your hidden memories to the surface. No need to thank me.¡± With those words, the voice disappeared, leaving Helios alone on the beach once more. Helios collapsed to his knees, his mind reeling with the constant influx of memories that were flooding into his mind. He didn¡¯t know what to do or who he even was as he lay on the ground, head splitting in intense pain. Chapter 6 Helios lay on the dark beach, struggling to piece together what was real. A faint whisper began to echo in his mind, a voice he hadn¡¯t heard in years¡ªone he thought was lost forever. ¡°Helios... my dear,¡± the voice called softly. ¡°You must remember who you are.¡± He gritted his teeth and shook his head, trying to push the voice away. ¡°No... this can¡¯t be happening,¡± he muttered, his pulse quickening. ¡°I can¡¯t be someone else. I can¡¯t be... something else.¡± But the voice persisted, growing stronger, tugging at memories he couldn¡¯t ignore. They surged up from deep within him¡ªflashes of a life he had long forgotten. A world he had left behind. ¡°Remember, Helios,¡± the voice urged, insistent. ¡°Remember who you truly are. Remember me.¡± A storm of confusion and anger swirled inside him, his fists clenching as the emotions took hold. He had always felt out of place, like he didn¡¯t belong anywhere. But he never imagined it was because he was from another world entirely. The idea alone made his heart pound with denial. ¡°Who am I?¡± Helios cried out, his voice hoarse as it echoed across the desolate beach. His only answer was the sound of crashing waves, a lonely rhythm that seemed to mock his desperation. He staggered to his feet, his head still clouded with the fragments of memories returning. Everything was a blur, but then, one thought broke through the fog: The Dark Meridian. This was the Realm of Darkness. Memories flashed brighter now¡ªfamiliar faces, old battles, and a sinister presence he couldn¡¯t shake. ¡°That bastard Xehanort¡¡± he muttered, feeling the bile rise in his throat. ¡°He tried to make me a vessel for his heart. I¡¯m in the Realm of Darkness, and Nightfall¡ªmy city¡ªit¡¯s probably been swallowed by the Heartless. My parents... they sacrificed everything to protect me.¡± His voice faltered, the weight of it all pressing down on him. Before he could fully process it, a voice cut through the air behind him¡ªcalm, dark, and familiar. ¡°Good, it seems you¡¯re finally starting to remember,¡± the figure of darkness said, appearing as if the shadows themselves had shaped it. ¡°With your memories awakening, I can feel the dark emotions blooming within you.¡± Helios turned sharply, his blue eyes locking onto the figure¡¯s glowing gaze. He bristled with anger. ¡°So, that¡¯s your game, huh? You hoped that by bringing back my memories, you¡¯d confuse me¡ªmake me fall into despair, so you could possess me.¡± The figure chuckled, a low and menacing sound that echoed in the stillness. ¡°Possess you? No, Helios, that was never my intention. You¡¯re far too valuable to be a mere puppet. I¡¯m offering you something far greater: the truth. A deal, if you will.¡± Helios clenched his fists at his sides. His instincts screamed that this figure was not to be trusted, but he couldn¡¯t ignore the question gnawing at him. ¡°What truth?¡± he spat. ¡°What kind of deal?¡± The figure stepped closer, shadows swirling around its form like a dark mist. ¡°The truth that you, Helios, are more than a mere pawn. You are the key to unlocking the true power of Kingdom Hearts. The one who could reshape the very universe itself.¡± Helios¡¯s heart skipped a beat. ¡°What are you talking about?¡± ¡°You have within you the potential to create something new¡ªa universe where we can break free from the constraints of this world. You see, this world... it¡¯s not real,¡± the figure said, its voice laced with amusement. ¡°It¡¯s nothing more than a game, a design created to entertain others. And it¡¯s rigged for the light to always win. But together, you and I can rewrite the script.¡± Support the creativity of authors by visiting the original site for this novel and more. Helios stared at the figure, the implications of its words washing over him. ¡°Remake the world?¡± His voice was low, filled with suspicion. ¡°So you can destroy it later, right? That doesn¡¯t sound like much of a deal.¡± The figure¡¯s smirk widened. ¡°How predictable. You cling to the idea that light is good and darkness is evil. But what if I told you the real problem is choice? In this world, everything is predetermined. Wouldn¡¯t you prefer a world where people have true freedom to choose their fate¡ªwhere they are not bound by some unseen creator¡¯s will?¡± Helios felt the words crawl under his skin, unsettling him. ¡°Freedom to do what? Destroy everything? No thanks. I¡¯m not going to help you.¡± The figure tilted its head, the miasma swirling thicker around it. ¡°Oh, Helios. You misunderstand. I don¡¯t want to destroy anything. What I want is balance¡ªfreedom from the endless war between light and darkness. And you... you¡¯ve seen that already, haven¡¯t you? You know deep down that neither side is inherently good or evil. They are forces that exist, both necessary, both in conflict. And together, we can bring that balance.¡± Helios hesitated, the weight of the figure¡¯s words pressing down on him. He didn¡¯t trust the creature, but there was a strange sense of truth in what it said. His mind raced, the memories of his past life flickering like flames in his thoughts. ¡°I¡¯m not interested in deals with darkness,¡± Helios said coldly. ¡°I know you¡¯re trying to manipulate me.¡± The figure¡¯s smile never faltered. ¡°Perhaps. But I can see in your heart that you¡¯ve already begun to question the narrative you¡¯ve been fed. Why should light always prevail? What makes darkness inherently wrong? I offer you a chance to explore those questions for yourself. Let me travel with you. Trust, after all, can be earned in time.¡± Helios frowned, his mind whirling. He couldn¡¯t deny that there was a part of him that understood what the figure was saying. He had never believed the universe to be black and white. And yet, trusting the darkness¡ªwalking down that path¡ªfelt dangerous. Too dangerous. ¡°Fine,¡± he said finally, his voice low. ¡°I¡¯ll hear you out. But don¡¯t expect me to agree to anything until I know exactly what you¡¯re planning.¡± The figure¡¯s dark laughter filled the air. ¡°Of course. I wouldn¡¯t expect anything less from you, Helios. Now, shall we begin?¡± Helios squared his shoulders, feeling the tension coil in his chest. ¡°If you want to prove your intentions, show me how to leave the Realm of Darkness.¡± The figure¡¯s glowing eyes narrowed. ¡°Ah, leaving... It¡¯s not as simple as opening a door, Helios. It requires power. Power you do not yet possess.¡± ¡°What?¡± Helios snapped, his frustration boiling over. ¡°You said you had the power to help me leave.¡± ¡°I do,¡± the figure said calmly, the shadows thickening. ¡°But I cannot create the doorway on my own. I need you, Helios. Together, we can open it.¡± Helios narrowed his eyes. ¡°And what do I get in return for helping you? What¡¯s your angle?¡± The figure¡¯s smile grew wider, darker. ¡°I simply need you, Helios. With your help, we can leave this place. And once we¡¯re free, imagine the power you will wield. The ability to travel between worlds¡ªanytime, anywhere. You¡¯ll never be trapped again.¡± ¡°And if I refuse?¡± Helios asked, his voice steady. ¡°Then you will remain here, lost in the void, forever wondering what could have been,¡± the figure replied, its tone unnervingly casual. ¡°But if you accept, perhaps... just perhaps... you could even bring your fake parents back.¡± Helios froze. The mention of his parents sent a shockwave of emotion through him, making his heart clench painfully. ¡°What do you mean?¡± he asked, his voice barely above a whisper. The figure¡¯s gaze flickered with amusement. ¡°With the power we can wield together, even death can be undone. You could see them again, Helios. All you have to do is surrender yourself to the shadows.¡± Helios felt his pulse quicken. His mind screamed at him to reject the offer, but the thought of his parents¡ªof seeing them again¡ªpulled at him with agonizing force. He swallowed hard, fighting the temptation that clawed at him. ¡°And what do I have to do?¡± The figure¡¯s voice dripped with satisfaction. ¡°Simply let the darkness in. Embrace it, Helios, and together, we will create something new.¡± Helios¡¯s mind raced as he weighed his options. He needed to leave this place, but he couldn¡¯t give in to the darkness. Not yet. ¡°I¡¯ll think about it,¡± Helios said finally, his voice laced with caution. The figure chuckled, shadows curling tighter around it. ¡°That¡¯s all I ask. Take your time, dear Helios. I¡¯ll be waiting.¡± Chapter 7 Helios took a deep breath, his mind racing as he weighed his options. The figure¡¯s offer lingered, tempting him, but his instincts screamed not to trust it. He couldn¡¯t let himself be possessed, but there had to be a way to escape this place¡ªwithout losing his soul. ¡°I appreciate your offer,¡± Helios began, keeping his voice calm, ¡°but I have to decline your deal for Kingdom Hearts.¡± The figure tilted its head, dark energy swirling lazily around it. ¡°Is that so?¡± it said, its tone laced with curiosity. ¡°And what alternative do you propose, if not to accept my generous offer?¡± Helios forced a smile, trying to sound sincere. ¡°Why not become friends? Friends don¡¯t need deals¡ªthey help each other because they trust each other. You help me get out of here, and maybe I can help you with something down the line. No strings attached, no possession. Just... friendship.¡± The figure¡¯s glowing eyes narrowed, and for a moment, it said nothing, assessing Helios¡¯s words. ¡°Friends?¡± it echoed, amusement lacing its tone. ¡°And what do you think we¡¯d do as friends if there¡¯s no benefit in it for me?¡± Helios shrugged, his heartbeat quickening. ¡°You said it yourself¡ªtrust can be built over time. Friends work together without the need for manipulation. Maybe we both get something out of this.¡± The figure was silent, shadows dancing around it as if pondering Helios¡¯s proposal. Finally, it spoke, a low, dangerous laugh escaping its lips. ¡°Very well. We shall be ¡®friends,¡¯ Helios. But make no mistake¡ªif you become a liability, I won¡¯t hesitate to dispose of you.¡± Helios nodded, the tension in his chest easing just a little. ¡°Fair enough. So, how about we start with you helping me get out of here?¡± The figure floated closer, its dark energy pulsing in rhythm with Helios¡¯s racing heart. ¡°Before we leave, there¡¯s something you need to learn,¡± it said, its voice soft and dangerous. ¡°Darkness is not your enemy¡ªit¡¯s simply a tool. Learn to use it, or it will consume you.¡± Helios watched as the figure began to explain the nuances of wielding darkness, but before he could absorb the lesson, the ground beneath them shifted. Black tendrils stretched across the beach, and glowing yellow eyes appeared, staring out from the growing shadows. Neoshadows¡ªthe Heartless¡ªemerged from the darkness. Their large, clawed hands and crooked antennae were unmistakable. They slinked forward, muscles tensed, ready to strike. Helios¡¯s body reacted on instinct, his heart pounding in his chest. ¡°I¡¯m not ready for this,¡± he muttered, backing away. The figure floated beside him, watching the approaching Heartless with cold indifference. ¡°Run,¡± it ordered. ¡°You¡¯re no use to me dead.¡± Without hesitation, Helios turned and sprinted, his feet pounding against the shadowy ground as the Neoshadows slithered closer. The figure followed, its dark energy propelling it with speed, effortlessly keeping pace with him. A case of literary theft: this tale is not rightfully on Amazon; if you see it, report the violation. They raced through the twisted corridors of the Realm of Darkness, the shadows of Heartless creeping after them. Helios pushed himself harder, his breath coming in ragged gasps as they navigated the desolate landscape. Finally, after what felt like an eternity, they managed to lose the pursuing Heartless. Collapsing onto the ground, Helios¡¯s chest heaved as he gasped for air. His body felt like it was on fire, every muscle aching from the exertion. The figure hovered over him, its voice sharp and unyielding. ¡°Rest quickly,¡± it said, eyes scanning the darkness. ¡°We¡¯re not safe yet. The Heartless are drawn to the light of your heart, and this area has recently been consumed. We need to move.¡± Helios, still panting, glanced up and froze. His surroundings became painfully clear¡ªthe city of Nightfall, or at least what remained of it, lay in ruins. The streets where he¡¯d grown up, the buildings he had known, were swallowed by darkness, now nothing more than broken remnants. Grief crashed over him, and he grabbed his head, trying to steady his racing thoughts. ¡°Why¡?¡± he whispered, his voice choked with emotion. ¡°Why did this happen?¡± The figure regarded him with cold detachment. ¡°Why?¡± it repeated, mocking. ¡°Your parents made the choice to sacrifice themselves for you. It was a foolish decision, but it worked in my favor. Now, stop wasting time. We must move.¡± Helios¡¯s breath caught in his throat as the weight of his loss pressed down on him. His parents¡ªgone. His city¡ªgone. Everything he had known, erased in an instant. His vision blurred with tears as he struggled to process the devastation. ¡°I don¡¯t expect you to understand,¡± Helios muttered, standing shakily, ¡°but they sacrificed everything for me. They gave their hearts to protect me. I won¡¯t let their sacrifice be in vain.¡± The figure scoffed, its energy swirling with disdain. ¡°Sentimentality is weakness. It clouds your judgment. Compassion and love? They are meaningless here. Detach yourself from such emotions, or you will not survive.¡± Helios met its gaze, a fire burning behind his eyes. ¡°No,¡± he said firmly. ¡°I won¡¯t abandon what makes me human. My parents taught me about love and compassion, and that¡¯s what I¡¯ll hold onto. I refuse to become like you.¡± The figure¡¯s laugh was low and mocking. ¡°Is that so, ¡®friend¡¯? We shall see how long that lasts. Compassion is what brought you here, what made you weak. But no matter, let¡¯s move before your sentimental heart draws more of them.¡± Helios gritted his teeth, his resolve hardening. He knew he couldn¡¯t trust the figure completely, but for now, he had no choice but to follow. He wouldn¡¯t become a heartless shell. He wouldn¡¯t lose himself to the darkness. As they continued deeper into the Realm of Darkness, the desolation grew more pronounced. Twisted structures loomed around them, casting warped shadows that seemed to flicker and stretch unnaturally. Helios¡¯s mind raced, trying to process everything, but the weight of his loss and the constant threat of the Heartless pressed down on him. Without warning, the figure stopped, its head cocked slightly. ¡°We have company,¡± it said quietly, its voice low and ominous. Helios¡¯s muscles tensed. He couldn¡¯t see anything in the surrounding darkness, but he could feel it¡ªthe oppressive presence of Heartless closing in. The figure moved swiftly, its dark energy swirling as it struck down the Heartless with deadly precision, cutting through them with cold efficiency. As the final Heartless faded into the shadows, Helios took a deep breath, trying to steady his nerves. ¡°Don¡¯t get too comfortable,¡± the figure warned, not bothering to turn around. ¡°They¡¯ll keep coming. Stay alert, or you¡¯ll die.¡± Helios nodded, his eyes scanning the shadows. He knew they had a long way to go before they could escape the Realm of Darkness, but he was determined to survive¡ªand he was determined not to lose himself along the way. Chapter 8 After countless days of treacherous travel through the twisted landscapes of the Realm of Darkness, Helios and the shadowy figure finally reached the shattered remains of Enchanted Dominion, the world of Sleeping Beauty. Once a place of beauty and magic, it now lay in ruins, consumed by the ever-encroaching darkness. The sky hung heavy, thick with despair, and the remnants of what was once a vibrant kingdom lay scattered across the land like broken dreams. Helios stepped into this forsaken world and felt an all-too-familiar pang of sorrow. The crumbling ruins reminded him of his parents, of Nightfall¡ªthe city that had been his home and the memories that now haunted him. Everything he loved had been swallowed by the darkness, just like this place. The figure, however, moved forward without hesitation, unaffected by the desolation around them. It guided Helios to a half-standing house, one of the few structures that hadn¡¯t completely fallen apart. After a quick survey, the figure confirmed that no Heartless lurked within. ¡°Rest,¡± the figure said coolly. ¡°This place is safe for now.¡± Helios collapsed onto the dusty floor, utterly drained. His muscles ached from the relentless journey, and his mind heavy from the constant threat of darkness. Exhaustion weighed him down, but his thoughts were a whirlwind of fear, anger, and grief. He needed a moment to breathe, to find a way to anchor himself in the reality he now faced. Across the room, the figure observed him, its glowing featureless face tilted. Finally, it spoke, a note of urgency in its voice. ¡°You must understand, Helios¡ªthe darkness around us is unrelenting. If you don¡¯t learn to control it, it will consume you. If that happens, then you are of no use to me.¡± Helios looked up, meeting the figure¡¯s gaze. His heart raced with fear as the mental exhaustion was slowly taking over. ¡°I don¡¯t want to lose myself,¡± he muttered. ¡°I don¡¯t want to be swallowed by the darkness like everything else. How can I protect my heart?¡± The figure sighed, its voice tinged with frustration. ¡°You can¡¯t deny the darkness, Helios. It¡¯s part of who you are now. Avoiding it won¡¯t make it disappear. To survive, you must confront it. Only by facing it can you prevent it from taking control. A strong individual fears neither the light nor the dark.¡± Helios clenched his fists, grappling with the truth in the figure¡¯s words. He couldn¡¯t keep running from the his own inner darkness. ¡°You¡¯re right,¡± he admitted. ¡°My parents taught me to face things head-on. I won¡¯t hide from this anymore. I know their light is still within me, helping me through.¡± ¡°Unlikely,¡± the figure interrupted, indifferent. ¡°Your parents are gone. Their light, whatever it was, has vanished. They left nothing behind to protect you.¡± The figure tilted its head, curiosity flickering in its tone. ¡°Still, why do you only speak of your parents from this life? You lived in another world before this one, didn¡¯t you?¡± The narrative has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident. Helios sat up, confusion crossing his face. ¡°I didn¡¯t have parents in that life. I grew up in an orphanage. You said you read my memories¡ªhow could you not know that?¡± The figure¡¯s voice held a note of dismissive disdain. ¡°I only focused on the parts that interested me. Love and compassion are frailties I find irrelevant. They only make you vulnerable so I skipped them.¡± Helios¡¯s jaw tightened. ¡°Love and compassion may make us vulnerable,¡± he said softly, ¡°but they also give us strength. I¡¯ve seen it in my memories of Sora, how love and friendship gave him the power to overcome anything.¡± For a moment, the figure paused, something flickering in its dark aura, but it quickly returned to its cold, indifferent demeanor. ¡°That dull boy¡ªyes, Sora¡ªdid gain power through those things, though how remains a mystery to me. Very well, Helios. If you insist on clinging to such foolish notions, I will still teach you to control the darkness. But understand this: it is a power that requires discipline. You must learn its ways, or it will overwhelm you.¡± Helios nodded, resolute. ¡°I¡¯m ready. Show me how to use it.¡± The figure floated closer, its voice low and sharp. ¡°Darkness can grant you strength, but it can also consume you if you¡¯re not careful. The first step is to acknowledge the darkness within you. Accept it as part of who you are¡ªonly then can you shape it.¡± The following days were spent within the hollowed-out ruins of Enchanted Dominion, Helios and the figure moving from one crumbling structure to the next as the world itself seemed to fall apart around them. Each day, Helios immersed himself deeper into the teachings of the figure, pushing himself to the brink as he learned to channel the darkness without being consumed by it. Every lesson brought him closer to understanding the delicate balance between his emotions and the power he now wielded. Together, they ventured out into the decaying world, where Helios tested his newfound abilities against the relentless Heartless. Battle after battle, he learned to control the darkness, channeling it through his emotions. He fought to keep his heart anchored in light, tempering his strength with resolve and discipline. The days blurred into weeks, the weeks into months. In that time, Helios began to uncover more fragments of his forgotten past, memories of his time as an orphan in the other world slowly resurfacing. But they were fleeting, like glimpses of an old photograph¡ªdistant and difficult to grasp. Still, he pressed on, determined not to lose himself to the darkness. He would survive, not just for his own sake, but for the memory of his parents, and the hope that somehow, in some way, he could restore what was lost. On a cold, desolate night, as they moved through another ruined part of the world, Helios stopped. He stood in silence, his breath visible in the chill air. ¡°I don¡¯t know who I truly am yet,¡± he said, his voice steady, ¡°but I do know one thing¡ªI won¡¯t let this darkness control me. After I leave here I will find out how to channel and control light so that I may find a balance. And I¡¯ll protect the things that matter.¡± The figure hovered beside him, its presence still and unreadable. ¡°We¡¯ll see,¡± it murmured. ¡°But do not mistake strength for invulnerability. Even the strongest hearts can fall to darkness if they are not careful.¡± Helios said nothing, only tightened his grip on the resolve that kept him going. He had come too far to falter now. The path ahead was filled with danger, but he had faced the worst before and survived. Whatever the future held, he would meet it head-on. He would survive, no matter what. Chapter 9 Months had passed, and still, Helios found himself unable to open a door of darkness. The frustration of his slow progress weighed on him, but it was nothing compared to the cold disappointment that emanated from the figure. ¡°We¡¯ve been here for so long, and you still can¡¯t do it,¡± the figure muttered, its tone icy with displeasure. ¡°After all this time, the only thing you¡¯ve managed to create is a basic shield of darkness. I thought we¡¯d be much further along by now.¡± Panting heavily, surrounded by the shimmering, dark surface of his defensive shield, Helios shot the figure a glare. ¡°Easy for you to say,¡± he said between breaths. ¡°You are darkness itself. You said darkness is fueled by dark emotions, but I don¡¯t have enough of those yet. The only thing driving me is my desire to kill that man in the coat¡ªXehanort, I assume.¡± The figure¡¯s energy flickered as it paced around Helios, unsatisfied. ¡°That desire should be more than enough to channel the darkness,¡± it said coldly. ¡°Something inside you is holding you back. If you don¡¯t unlock this power soon, it could take years¡ªdecades even¡ªbefore we leave this place.¡± Helios¡¯s gaze drifted out to the crumbling remains of the world surrounding them, the darkness swallowing everything. ¡°Maybe,¡± he said softly, ¡°but I believe I¡¯m strong enough to find a way out. We just need something more... powerful.¡± The figure stopped, its interest piqued. ¡°And what exactly are you suggesting?¡± Helios straightened, wiping the sweat from his brow. ¡°Since this is the Realm of Darkness, there should be Keyblades of Darkness scattered somewhere in this world.¡± The figure regarded him with a critical eye, its dark energy swirling as it contemplated Helios¡¯s words. ¡°Keyblades of darkness? Based on your memories, they could exist here. But I wouldn¡¯t know where to find one. Do you?¡± ¡°I think I might,¡± Helios replied, his voice steady with renewed determination. ¡°Mickey found his Keyblade of darkness in this realm where Riku awakened the Kingdom Key, and I believe there must be others. Every Keyblade of light must have a counterpart in the dark. If I can find remnants of Daybreak Town¡ªone of the first worlds to fall¡ªthen maybe I¡¯ll find a Keyblade that can help me channel the darkness and open the door.¡± The figure¡¯s cold eyes glowed faintly. ¡°Daybreak Town...¡± it murmured, as if recalling something ancient and long forgotten. ¡°Yes, a world of light that fell into darkness. If any part of it still exists, it will be at the center of the realm¡ªthe most dangerous area of all.¡± Helios nodded, a grim determination set in his expression. ¡°Then that¡¯s where we need to go.¡± This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road; report any instances of this story if found elsewhere. The figure¡¯s aura pulsed with dark energy, almost as if amused by Helios¡¯s resolve. ¡°Be warned, boy. The path to Daybreak Town will be unforgiving. If you fail to master the darkness, you¡¯ll be torn apart by the Heartless before you even set foot near it.¡± ¡°I understand the risks,¡± Helios replied. ¡°But staying here is no longer an option. This world is disintegrating piece by piece. If we don¡¯t move soon, we¡¯ll be swallowed up just like everything else. Besides someone once said the best way to learn is under intense life-threatening conditions.¡± The figure seemed to contemplate for a moment, its gaze heavy on Helios. ¡°Perhaps you¡¯re right. Perhaps you need a more... immediate visceral experience to push you to your limits.¡± Before Helios could process the figure¡¯s words, he felt a chilling feeling as he looked at the figure and then it moved. In an instant, the dark energy surrounding it exploded outward, forming deadly spikes of shadow that shot toward him. Helios reacted instinctively, summoning his shield of darkness just in time. The spikes crashed against his barrier with a force that sent him stumbling back, cracks forming across the surface of his shield. The clash between their darkness sent shockwaves through the crumbling room. His heart pounded in his chest as the figure loomed over him, its voice cold and detached. ¡°Hmm¡ seems you were right life-threatening conditions do make for growth.¡± ¡°Why are you doing this?¡± Helios shouted, fear and confusion mixing with anger. ¡°I thought we were allies¡ªfriends not enemies!¡± The figure¡¯s response was chillingly calm. ¡°If you can¡¯t meet my expectations, then perhaps death is the lesson you need. The darkness is not merciful. Only the strong survive. And I have no need for weak friends.¡± Helios¡¯s breath quickened as the figure launched another volley of dark energy toward him. His shield held, but just barely. The cracks widened with each strike, the barrier straining against the relentless assault. ¡°I¡¯ll die at this rate!¡± Helios gasped, panic creeping into his voice. The figure¡¯s energy pulsed, its amusement almost tangible. ¡°Yes, I know. I fully intend on killing you if you don¡¯t meet my standards. I am not human, Helios. I don¡¯t need to lie or deceive. When I say I will kill you if you do not meet my expectations, I mean it.¡± Helios¡¯s mind raced as he dodged another wave of spikes, his body aching from the strain. His heart pounded, fear mingling with frustration. He had to think¡ªhad to find a way out of this. ¡°Why are you so intent on killing me?¡± Helios shouted, trying to find a way to reason with the figure. ¡°I thought we had a common goal! If you kill me, you¡¯ll never get what you want!¡± The figure paused, its dark energy flickering with curiosity. ¡°Perhaps,¡± it said slowly. ¡°But if you cannot harness the darkness within you, then you are useless to me. When I first looked into your memories, I saw only a small flicker of darkness. Neither too much nor too little¡ªa frustratingly useless amount. You are not worth possessing unless that darkness grows.¡± Helios¡¯s eyes narrowed as he spotted an opening in the figure¡¯s attack pattern. Summoning every ounce of strength, he poured darkness into his legs, launching himself upward with a burst of energy just as the figure lunged again. The force propelled him through a crumbling wall, debris scattering around him as he crashed into the open night. Panting, Helios scrambled to his feet. His shield was gone, but the surge of energy had bought him a few precious seconds. He looked back, his mind whirling. He needed to get away, to regroup. This wasn¡¯t just about mastering darkness anymore¡ªit was about survival. Chapter 10 As Helios propelled himself through the air, heart pounding with adrenaline, he raced toward the crumbling remnants of Enchanted Dominion. The shadowy figure, realizing its opportunity slipping away, pursued him with relentless determination. The ruins of the once-grand kingdom stretched before Helios as he leaped from one decaying structure to another, each step driven by the primal need to survive. Behind him, the figure¡¯s dark presence loomed, its intent clear: it would kill him if he faltered. Panic gnawed at the edges of Helios¡¯s mind, but amidst the fear, a single thought flickered: Riku¡¯s technique. Dark Firaga. He had seen it in his memories¡ªa blast of dark fire, harnessed from the darkness within. He had to try. Helios focused, his hand trembling as he attempted to summon the dark energy. He could feel it bubbling within him, a chaotic force eager to be unleashed. A tiny orb of fiery darkness began to form above his palm, flickering weakly at first. As the figure drew closer, Helios seized his chance, hurling the Dark Firaga directly at his pursuer. The dark fire exploded on impact, engulfing the figure in a cloud of black flames. The explosion reverberated through the decaying streets, the shockwave sending the figure staggering back. For the first time, Helios saw a crack in its cold, indifferent facade¡ªa flicker of surprise. Without hesitation, Helios pressed his advantage. His muscles ached, but he pushed through the pain, leaping toward the figure with newfound confidence. The darkness, which had once felt uncontrollable, was now beginning to bend to his will. The power of the Dark Firaga had shown him that he could fight back. The figure, recovering quickly, retaliated with a volley of dark projectiles. But Helios was ready. He summoned his shield of darkness, raising it just in time to deflect the onslaught. Each impact shook him, but he stood his ground, maneuvering through the chaos with precision. ¡°You¡¯re improving, Helios,¡± the figure hissed, though its voice remained as cold as ever. It unleashed another barrage of attacks, dark energy crackling through the air. Helios moved with agility, evading the attacks and countering with his own bursts of dark fire. Each step he took, each spell he cast, felt more controlled, more precise. His confidence grew with every movement, and he could feel the darkness within him responding to his determination. He was learning to balance it¡ªto wield it without losing himself. The battle raged through the decaying streets, their powers clashing violently as the world around them continued to fall apart. Helios¡¯s attacks grew stronger, his control over the dark firaga sharpening with each strike. He felt the rhythm of the fight, the pulse of the darkness coursing through his veins. Then, with a surge of power, Helios launched a devastating ball of dark energy at the figure. The explosion rocked the area, shattering nearby windows as shards of glass rained down. Dust and debris filled the air, and for a moment, there was silence. Panting, Helios collapsed to the ground, struggling to catch his breath. He stared at the spot where the figure had been, hoping¡ªjust for a second¡ªthat he had finally won. A voice, cold and indifferent, cut through the silence. ¡°Good enough. You don¡¯t have to die now.¡± Love this story? Find the genuine version on the author''s preferred platform and support their work! Helios¡¯s heart sank as he looked up to see the figure hovering behind him, completely unscathed. It had survived the powerful attack without so much as a scratch. ¡°What do you want from me?¡± Helios demanded, his voice trembling with a mixture of anger and exhaustion. ¡°First, you try to kill me, and now you say ¡®good job¡¯? What¡¯s your goal?¡± The figure floated closer, its dark energy swirling lazily. ¡°I simply want you to reach your full potential, Helios. To tap into the darkness within you. This was merely a test. I needed to push you to your limits, to see if you were worth keeping alive.¡± Helios glared at the figure, frustration boiling beneath his skin. ¡°You could have taught me. You could have guided me! Instead, you tried to kill me, pushed me like some tool. How can you expect me to trust you after that?¡± The figure¡¯s voice remained calm, devoid of any emotion. ¡°Didn¡¯t you once say that extreme measures are sometimes necessary? That¡¯s exactly what I did. I pushed you beyond your limits. And you survived. Now, you are stronger than before.¡± The figure paused, its eyes glowing faintly. ¡°We¡¯re still friends, aren¡¯t we?¡± ¡°Friends?¡± Helios spat, his frustration bubbling over. ¡°Do you really think I¡¯ll go anywhere with you after you tried to kill me? How am I supposed to trust you?¡± The figure floated closer, unfazed. ¡°Trust has nothing to do with empathy or feelings. You trust me because I have never lied to you. I told you I would kill you if you disappointed me. And I told you I would let you live if you proved your worth. Did I not keep my word?¡± Helios¡¯s anger flared, but he couldn¡¯t deny the truth in the figure¡¯s words. The figure had never lied. But the coldness in its logic¡ªits complete indifference to his life¡ªmade Helios¡¯s skin crawl. ¡°Trust isn¡¯t just about keeping promises,¡± Helios shot back, his voice filled with defiance. ¡°It¡¯s about showing you care about the other person. You tried to kill me, and now you expect me to just move on?¡± The figure¡¯s gaze remained steady, unblinking. ¡°Whether you realize it or not, Helios, you already trust me. You trusted my words when I said I would kill you. And now, you trust me when I say you are safe. Trust is not about emotions. It is about understanding reality.¡± Helios stared at the figure, his fists clenched. He wanted to argue, to reject its twisted view of trust, but a part of him knew that the figure was right¡ªat least, in its own warped way. ¡°I¡¯ll proceed cautiously,¡± Helios said, his voice steely. ¡°But if you want me to follow you, you¡¯ll need to prove that you¡¯re really on my side. I won¡¯t let my guard down.¡± The figure¡¯s energy flickered briefly. ¡°There is no need to prove anything. You will be safe with me as long as you meet my expectations. If you fall short again, then yes¡ªyour life will be in danger. But for now, I am satisfied.¡± Helios felt his frustration growing. The figure¡¯s complete lack of empathy made it impossible to fully trust, but he had little choice. If he wanted to survive and leave this place, he needed to keep playing along¡ªfor now. ¡°Actions speak louder than words,¡± Helios muttered. ¡°If you¡¯re truly on my side, show me.¡± Without a word, the figure extended its hand, and from its palm, a tendril of dark energy began to form. Slowly, it coiled and twisted, eventually solidifying into a small, glowing orb that pulsed with faint warmth. ¡°This is a fragment of my power,¡± the figure explained. ¡°Take it. With this, you will be able to tap deeper into the darkness. Use it until we leave this realm.¡± Helios hesitated, staring at the orb in the figure¡¯s hand. Reluctantly, he reached out and accepted the gift. The moment the orb touched his skin, a surge of energy flowed through him. He could feel the figure¡¯s power intertwining with his own, amplifying the darkness within him. ¡°Actions do carry weight,¡± Helios admitted, his voice quieter now. ¡°But I will remain cautious. We may have the same goal, but trust... trust is earned through more than just promises. It¡¯s earned through consistency and care.¡± The figure said nothing, its gaze fixed on Helios as the dark orb was absorbed. ¡°Let¡¯s move on,¡± Helios said, his resolve hardened. He would continue forward, but he would never let his guard down again. The darkness was his to control, but he knew that the figure walking beside him was as dangerous as any enemy he had ever faced. Chapter 11 As Helios and the figure ventured deeper into the ominous realm of darkness, the atmosphere grew heavier, more suffocating. The twisted trees of the dark forest loomed above them, their gnarled branches reaching out like skeletal fingers. Shadows twisted and writhed, whispering secrets only the darkness could understand. Helios walked in silence for a while, his mind replaying the battle he¡¯d just fought. Finally, unable to contain his frustration, he broke the quiet. ¡°If that orb allows me to use the darkness safely, why didn¡¯t you give it to me sooner?¡± The figure moved ahead of him, gliding effortlessly through the oppressive air. ¡°The orb may allow you to access the darkness safely, but it also limits you. It acts like a crutch, preventing you from mastering the full extent of your dark power. If I¡¯d given it to you at the start, you¡¯d have grown dependent on it and assumed you had control when in reality you wouldn¡¯t. The moment you stopped using it, the darkness would have consumed you. And then, I would have lost my possible vessel.¡± Helios mulled over the figure¡¯s words, realizing the danger the orb posed if misused. He hadn¡¯t thought of it that way, but it made sense. ¡°So, this was all just a test? I¡¯m now strong enough to use it?¡± he asked, trying to mask the bitterness in his voice. ¡°No,¡± the figure replied with its usual indifference. ¡°I had no reason to give it to you before. Likewise, I have no reason to give it to you now either. However, you wanted a sign of trust, so I gave it to you. But make no mistake¡ªthe orb is more detrimental than helpful. Its only real purpose is to allow me to track you wherever you are.¡± Helios¡¯s eyes widened. ¡°What? So it¡¯s just a tracking device?¡± He stopped, glaring at the figure. ¡°Take it back!¡± The figure glided a little ahead, unmoved by Helios¡¯s anger. ¡°No. I told you, I¡¯ll take it back once we leave this realm. Until then, it stays with you. It¡¯s true that we are always together, but separation in the Realm of Darkness can happen easily. Should we get separated, you¡¯ll be thankful for the tracking function.¡± Helios¡¯s frustration bubbled over. ¡°You tricked me! I thought you didn¡¯t lie. What happened to that?¡± The figure¡¯s voice remained cold and detached. ¡°I didn¡¯t lie. You insisted on a symbol of trust, and I obliged. The fact that it has other functions is irrelevant.¡± Helios clenched his fists, feeling a surge of anger rise within him. ¡°You manipulated me,¡± he retorted. ¡°You knew exactly what you were doing.¡± The figure remained indifferent, not even bothering to face Helios. ¡°I simply acted as I always do. The orb keeps us connected, and when the darkness inevitably tries to separate us, you¡¯ll see the benefit.¡± Helios took a deep breath, trying to calm himself. There was no use arguing further. But before he could move on, a thought crossed his mind. ¡°What¡¯s your name?¡± he asked suddenly, hoping to catch the figure off-guard. If you find this story on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen. Please report the infringement. ¡°I don¡¯t have one,¡± the figure replied, not missing a beat. ¡°I cast aside everything¡ªname, form, heart¡ªto become what you see. I am darkness, nothing more.¡± Helios frowned. ¡°That¡¯s sad. You should have a name. If you want, I can give you one.¡± The figure didn¡¯t respond to his offer, gliding ahead with its usual apathy. Before Helios could push the subject, the figure¡¯s voice cut through the silence. ¡°Enough. They¡¯re here. Prepare yourself.¡± Ahead of them, the ground trembled. The air grew thick with malice as a Darkside¡ªan immense, humanoid Heartless¡ªemerged from the shadows. It towered over Helios, its body massive and composed of swirling darkness. Its glowing yellow eyes glared down at him, and with a low, guttural growl, it began its assault. Helios¡¯s heart raced, but anger and grief from his parent¡¯s death filled him. He summoned his dark shield, the energy crackling around him as the Darkside swung its massive claws, sending shockwaves of darkness through the air. The force of the attack rattled Helios to his core, but he stood his ground, ready to fight. Dodging the Darkside¡¯s massive strikes, Helios retaliated with Dark Firaga, launching searing orbs of dark fire at the Heartless. The flames licked at the Darkside¡¯s shadowy form, but it didn¡¯t falter. Instead, it grew more aggressive, its attacks more relentless. Helios could feel his energy waning, but he couldn¡¯t afford to stop. With each move, he drew deeper into the well of darkness within him, his anger and grief fueling his attacks. He struck with renewed ferocity, shadows swirling around him as he launched bolt after bolt of dark fire. The figure watched from the sidelines, its expression unreadable. It observed Helios¡¯s growing strength with mild curiosity but also a hint of caution. The darkness was responding to him more powerfully than before, but there was a dangerous edge to it¡ªa line that Helios might cross without realizing. Just as the battle reached a fever pitch, the figure decided to intervene. It melded with the shadows, becoming one with the dark forest, and struck the Darkside with a single, devastating blow. The Heartless collapsed, its massive form disintegrating into nothingness. Before Helios could comprehend what had happened, the figure was upon him, knocking him off his feet with a swift motion. Darkness swirled around him, and for a brief moment, everything went black. When Helios awoke, the battle was over. His head throbbed, and he struggled to make sense of what had happened. He glanced up and saw the figure hovering over him, its gaze cold and calculating. ¡°Why did you stop me?¡± Helios demanded, anger flaring in his voice. ¡°I had it under control!¡± The figure¡¯s voice was as emotionless as ever. ¡°You were losing control. Your darkness was growing too potent, and it was attracting more Heartless. If I hadn¡¯t intervened, you would have been overwhelmed.¡± Helios clenched his fists, frustration bubbling beneath his skin. ¡°I didn¡¯t know¡ª¡± He stopped himself, realizing the truth of the figure¡¯s words. The darkness he¡¯d been wielding had felt different, more intense. He hadn¡¯t noticed how much it was consuming him. ¡°The more you draw on the darkness, the more you invite others to feed on it,¡± the figure continued. ¡°You cannot afford to be careless.¡± Helios took a deep breath, his anger giving way to a sense of understanding. ¡°I get it,¡± he admitted reluctantly. ¡°I didn¡¯t realize how dangerous it was. I need to be more careful.¡± The figure¡¯s cold eyes flickered. ¡°Good. Learn from this. Next time, I won¡¯t save you. If you continue to be a liability, you¡¯ll no longer be worth keeping alive.¡± Helios shot the figure a glare but said nothing. He understood the warning, but he wasn¡¯t about to let it break him. He would prove that he could control the darkness¡ªand he would survive, no matter the cost. The two continued their journey, the dark forest closing in around them once more. As they walked, Helios couldn¡¯t shake the feeling that something was watching them¡ªsomething more dangerous than the Heartless they had faced. Chapter 12 ¡°Kurai!¡± Helios exclaimed suddenly as they walked through the endless shadows of the forest. The figure turned its ethereal head toward him. ¡°Hmm? Kurai?¡± ¡°I told you I¡¯d come up with a name for you, and I decided on Kurai,¡± Helios replied, a hint of pride in his voice. The figure, now named Kurai, seemed to pause in thought. Its dark energy swirled around it, pulsing with subtle intrigue. It had wandered through countless years without a name or identity, yet here Helios was, giving it one. ¡°Kurai,¡± the figure repeated, testing the name as though it were foreign. ¡°Does it carry any meaning?¡± Helios nodded, a small smile tugging at his lips. ¡°Yes. In Japanese, ¡®Kurai¡¯ can mean ¡®dark,¡¯ ¡®gloomy,¡¯ or ¡®shadow,¡¯ which feels appropriate given your nature and this place. But it can also mean ¡®to come¡¯ or ¡®to arrive¡¯¡ªwhich could signify a new beginning.¡± Kurai¡¯s energy rippled faintly, as if contemplating something buried deep within its being. For a brief moment, a faint warmth flickered inside, a distant memory it couldn¡¯t quite grasp. But the feeling quickly faded, replaced by its usual indifference. ¡°If you wish to call me Kurai, so be it,¡± the figure replied, its tone as cold as ever. ¡°But enough with sentiment. I sense the Heartless growing restless again. We should find a more open area to confront them.¡± Helios and Kurai pressed on, their footsteps echoing through the dense, oppressive darkness of the forest. The atmosphere thickened with the looming presence of Heartless, their energy palpable in the air. Helios braced himself, ready to summon his dark shield at a moment¡¯s notice. They soon emerged into a small clearing, bathed in the eerie blue glow of the Realm of Darkness. The shadows around them shifted, and the telltale glow of yellow eyes began to appear from the gloom. The Heartless, drawn by the scent of Helios¡¯s darkness, gathered and converged upon them. Helios didn¡¯t hesitate. He summoned his dark energy, weaving it into a shimmering shield. The Heartless swarmed, their claws and tendrils slashing at him from all angles. His shield deflected their attacks, while Kurai moved with fluid grace, slipping into the shadows and striking with deadly precision. The two fought in sync, an unspoken understanding between them as they cut through the endless waves of Heartless. Helios unleashed bursts of Dark Firaga, the flames consuming his enemies in searing darkness, while Kurai dispatched them with cold, surgical efficiency. Their battle was a symphony of light and shadow, each movement honed by the dangers of the world they now inhabited. But just as they began to thin the Heartless ranks, a larger shadow loomed over them¡ªa towering Darkside Heartless emerged from the shadows, its jagged spikes protruding from its massive body. Its aura was suffused with malevolent energy, and its glowing eyes fixed on Helios with a hunger that made his skin crawl. The tale has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation. Helios gritted his teeth and summoned his dark shield again, deflecting the Darkside¡¯s crushing blows as it unleashed shockwaves of dark energy. Kurai circled the Darkside, slipping through the chaos with unnerving ease, striking at its vulnerable points with precise blows. But even as they fought in tandem, the Darkside¡¯s raw power was overwhelming. Its strength dwarfed the smaller Heartless, and its attacks grew fiercer with each passing moment. Mid-battle, Kurai¡¯s voice echoed in Helios¡¯s mind. ¡°I¡¯ve expended much of my energy. You will need to handle this one on your own.¡± With that, Kurai vanished into the shadows, leaving Helios alone to face the towering foe. Helios took a deep breath, tapping into the well of darkness within himself. He let it surge through him, amplifying his strength, as he prepared for the final clash. His Dark Firaga attacks intensified, each strike hammering the Darkside¡¯s shadowy form with greater precision and force. The ground trembled beneath their battle, shockwaves rippling through the clearing as they clashed. In a blur of motion, Helios evaded the Darkside¡¯s massive fists, anticipating its moves with growing confidence. Then, with one final surge of power, he unleashed a devastating orb of dark fire, striking the Darkside in the chest. The massive Heartless staggered, its form disintegrating into a cloud of darkness. But even as it faded, the Darkside released one last desperate attack. A blast of dark energy struck Helios, catching him off guard. A searing pain shot through his side, and he stumbled, blood staining his dark clothing. He clutched his wound, struggling to remain standing. Kurai reappeared at his side, unbothered by Helios¡¯s injury. ¡°You¡¯re wounded. That attack would have infected you with darkness, but thanks to the orb I gave you, you¡¯re protected. However, we should tend to the wound before it worsens.¡± Helios groaned, his hand pressed tightly against his side. ¡°Unless you know healing magic, this is going to take a while.¡± Kurai¡¯s tone remained as detached as ever. ¡°Let me handle that. You¡¯ll pass out soon if you lose too much blood, and I can¡¯t carry you.¡± Despite the dire situation, Helios couldn¡¯t help but chuckle through the pain. ¡°Good to know you have your priorities straight.¡± They stumbled through the forest, Kurai guiding Helios as they searched for shelter. Before long, they came across a small, weathered cabin hidden within the dark woods. Helios¡¯s steps grew heavier as he approached the familiar sight, a vague sense of recognition dawning on him. ¡°This place... it looks like the Dwarf Woodlands,¡± Helios muttered, memories of Snow White¡¯s world flickering in his mind. ¡°This must be after Birth by Sleep... when the world was consumed by darkness.¡± With great effort, Helios staggered to the cabin, his strength fading fast. As he crossed the threshold, his vision blurred, and darkness overtook him. When Helios collapsed, Kurai acted swiftly. Dark energy surged around them as Kurai intertwined itself with Helios, merging their forms temporarily. Helios¡¯s eyes flickered yellow as Kurai assumed control, animating his body with dark energy. Helios¡¯s movements were no longer sluggish, no longer weighed down by pain. Though blood still trickled from his wound, Kurai propelled him forward, guiding him into the cabin and laying him down on the bed. The dark energy shielded Helios from feeling the worst of the pain, dulling the sensation while keeping him alert. Kurai spoke through Helios, their voices blending into one. ¡°The wound was worse than I thought. I¡¯ll have to watch over him until he recovers.¡± As Kurai relinquished control, Helios¡¯s eyes returned to their normal blue. He lay on the bed, his body finally succumbing to the exhaustion and blood loss. The dark energy that had sustained him faded away, leaving him unconscious, his body weak but stable. But the wound on his side remained, now staining the bed sheets with his blood. The battle was over, but as Helios drifted into a deep sleep, the uncertainty of their journey loomed heavier than ever. The darkness within him had grown stronger, and Kurai¡¯s influence was undeniable. Chapter 13 ¡°Strange,¡± Kurai mused aloud, its voice echoing in the dim cabin. ¡°When I first attempted to possess him at the beach, I was rejected. I thought it was because there was no darkness in his heart, but there is¡ªyet he still resists. It¡¯s as though he¡¯s adapting to the darkness, learning to reject foreign influence.¡± Kurai paused for a moment, then dismissed the thought. ¡°This is no time to indulge curiosity. I need to get started.¡± Pushing aside the mystery, Kurai set about its task. Dark miasma swirled around the cabin, thickening and weaving itself into a protective barrier. The darkness served to conceal Helios and shield him from any prying eyes or wandering Heartless. The realm of darkness was ever-watchful, and leaving Helios vulnerable while he healed was too great a risk. Days passed. Helios remained unconscious, his body slowly recovering from the wound left by the Darkside. The deep gash across his side gradually closed, leaving a dark scar as a testament to the battle. During this time, Kurai never left his side, its presence both a guardian and a reminder of the dark pact they shared. The miasma continued to swirl, creating an impenetrable barrier between them and the encroaching dangers of the Realm of Darkness. At last, after many nights, Helios stirred. His eyelids fluttered open, and he groaned softly, one hand instinctively moving to touch his side. The wound was healed, but the memory of the pain remained vivid. As he sat up, the events leading up to his collapse played in his mind, fragmented but slowly piecing themselves back together. Kurai, sensing his awakening, approached him. ¡°Helios, you¡¯re awake. Good. We¡¯ve wasted enough time here. It¡¯s time to move.¡± Helios, still groggy, blinked and groaned. ¡°Yeah... I feel better, but I need to rest a bit more before we continue,¡± he said, his voice hoarse. After a brief moment of rest, Helios pushed himself up from the bed, his strength slowly returning. His memories, though still jumbled, began to align. Fragmented pieces of his past life¡ªmemories of both worlds¡ªfell into place, as if the fog in his mind was lifting. He stood on unsteady feet, turning to face Kurai, a new clarity in his gaze. ¡°Kurai, I remember now.¡± Kurai¡¯s gaze fixed on him, curiosity flickering in its dark aura. ¡°And what exactly do you remember?¡± Helios took a deep breath, meeting Kurai¡¯s gaze with a calm expression. ¡°I remember my old world and that I promised to help you, but I won¡¯t open Kingdom Hearts for you.¡± Kurai¡¯s energy darkened. ¡°And why not? You could bring your parents back. With Kingdom Hearts, you could become like a god¡ªreshape everything as you wish.¡± Helios clenched his fists. ¡°I won¡¯t open Kingdom Hearts because I¡¯m realistic. I¡¯ve seen what happens to people who try to go against Sora and his friends. They have the power of plot armor and friendship on their side. As for me, all I have is you and I have no desire to end up on the losing side. No matter how much I want my parents back I don¡¯t see a way to achieve this goal.¡± Enjoying the story? Show your support by reading it on the official site. Kurai¡¯s cold voice was laced with hints of disinterest and disdain. ¡°So you would rather sacrifice your parents for your own survival? Forfeit the power of Kingdom Hearts? Cower before an enemy that is not here. Pathetic.¡± Helios shook his head, his resolve hardening. ¡°It¡¯s not that simple. I can¡¯t beat Sora¡ªhe¡¯s protected by plot armor, and he has the power of friendship on his side. Besides, forging the ¦Ö-blade requires a war between 13 darknesses and 7 lights. It¡¯s too risky, and the odds of succeeding are basically zero.¡± Kurai¡¯s aura shifted, disappointment rippling through it. ¡°Then what do you propose, Helios? If you refuse to open Kingdom Hearts, how do you plan to repay the help I¡¯ve given you? How do you intend to justify your existence to me?¡± Helios met Kurai¡¯s gaze, his determination unwavering. ¡°I do owe you for everything you¡¯ve done. You¡¯ve taught me how to use my darkness. You¡¯ve saved me more times than I can count, and for that, I¡¯m grateful. But opening Kingdom Hearts isn¡¯t the only way to repay you.¡± Kurai remained silent, its energy flickering but slowly sharpening as it waited for Helios to continue. Helios took a deep breath. ¡°Here¡¯s my proposal: instead of risking everything to forge the ¦Ö-blade and open Kingdom Hearts, let¡¯s help you find a new body and heart to inhabit. A vessel that isn¡¯t tied to the creator you despise. One that can wield both light and darkness, free from fate and the rules of this universe.¡± Kurai tilted its head, its energy humming with intrigue. ¡°A new body and heart, you say? And what purpose would that serve? Why would I desire to return to a state I willingly abandoned?¡± Helios smiled, sensing that Kurai was considering his idea. ¡°Your formless state makes you powerful, yes, but it also limits you. Look at the fate of the 13 true darknesses¡ªthey were either sealed or destroyed. If you take on a new form, one that blends both light and dark, you could defy the fate waiting for you. You¡¯d be something entirely new, unpredictable.¡± Kurai floated closer, its aura now pulsing with curiosity. ¡°Defy fate¡ by embracing both light and darkness? You believe this would free me from the destiny awaiting the true darknesses?¡± Helios nodded, his smile growing. ¡°Yes. If we try to go down the path of Kingdom Hearts, we¡¯ll eventually lose. But by taking an unexpected route, by choosing to become something neither light nor dark, we could change everything. You could break free from the cycle of defeat that awaits the others. And who knows? Maybe it will give us both a better chance at survival. And¡ I do still want to bring my parents back, but on our terms.¡± Kurai remained silent, contemplating the weight of Helios¡¯s words. The idea of defying fate, of forging a new path, appealed to the lingering fragments of its former self¡ªthe part that desired freedom, not servitude to a predestined end. ¡°Very well, Helios. I will consider this proposal. If this path holds the potential to alter my fate, I am willing to explore it. But first, how do you intend to begin this process?¡± Helios grinned. ¡°First, we need to escape this realm and return to the Realm of Light. And for that, I need a Keyblade. Once we¡¯re out, I¡¯ll explain the rest of my plan.¡± Kurai¡¯s gaze flickered with a faint glow of interest. ¡°A Keyblade, you say? Then we must find one. But be warned, Helios¡ªshould this plan of yours fail, I will not hesitate to kill you.¡± Helios chuckled softly. ¡°Fair enough, Kurai. But let¡¯s make sure it doesn¡¯t come to that.¡± With a newfound sense of purpose, Helios and Kurai prepared to leave the cabin and set out on the next phase of their journey. The path ahead was treacherous, filled with danger and uncertainty, but they would face it together¡ªtwo unlikely allies, bound by darkness and an unorthodox plan to defy the destiny waiting for them. Chapter 14 As Helios and Kurai continued their trek through the endless darkness, Helios couldn¡¯t help but feel a sense of relief that his ruse had worked. Inside, his thoughts raced. ¡°Thank God this shadow bought it,¡± Helios mused silently, trying to keep his expression neutral. ¡°I remember that they were easy to manipulate, but I half expected to fail in convincing it.¡± Since awakening more of his memories, Helios had been piecing together his plan carefully. When Kurai had searched through his mind, it had unlocked only about forty percent of his memories¡ªjust enough for Helios to remember parts of his life and the fragmented story of Kingdom Hearts. But now, with more clarity, he understood the full story, or at least enough of it to navigate his path with caution. Walking beside Kurai, Helios felt a sense of urgency as the stakes of his situation grew more apparent. He knew now that this shadowy figure wasn¡¯t just a simple ally; Kurai and the other 12 True Darkness had their own agenda, and at some point, it would try to use him for its own ends. Helios would have to stay two steps ahead if he wanted to survive. The memories of Kingdom Hearts III, Union X, and Re-Mind echoed in his mind like a tangled web of events. He now understood the complex power dynamics, the influence of figures like the enigmatic Master of Masters, and the intricate threads of fate that connected the worlds. Helios realized that Kurai would eventually run into one of these key players, and that would spell disaster for him as its ally for now if he didn¡¯t have a plan. Avoiding those catastrophic encounters was now the heart of his strategy. He had to steer clear of Sora and his overwhelming plot armor. The thought alone made Helios wary of ever crossing paths with the Keyblade wielder. Too many people had underestimated Sora, only to be defeated in ways no one could predict or even understand logically. No, Helios needed to forge his own way, one that defied expectations. His plan began to take shape as they walked. First, he needed to gather more information¡ªboth about his current location in the timeline and the state of the different worlds. Determining whether they were still in the time of Sora or further back in the age of fairy tales was crucial. Depending on the era, the landscape of allies and enemies would change drastically. Helios also knew he would need a base of operations, somewhere hidden from the prying eyes of those who sought control over Kingdom Hearts. He couldn¡¯t just keep wandering aimlessly in the Realm of Darkness or Light¡ªhe needed a sanctuary, a place where they could regroup and plan their next steps. But he would need power¡ªreal power. As they ventured deeper into the heart of darkness, the environment around them shifted. The terrain became more treacherous as land decayed faster, the air denser with the presence of Heartless. The Heartless grew stronger the further they traveled, but with each battle, Helios found his skills sharpening. He had sustained fewer injuries over time, a sign of his growing mastery over darkness. Enjoying this book? Seek out the original to ensure the author gets credit. In his battles, he had unlocked a new form¡ªa dark form, much like Riku¡¯s and Sora¡¯s, that enhanced his physical strength, speed, and defensive abilities. Helios could feel the power coursing through him as he fought, pushing his limits. But he knew he would need more than raw strength to face the challenges ahead. A weapon. A Keyblade. The innermost area of the Realm of Darkness was littered with the remnants of worlds long consumed by darkness, including fragments of Daybreak Town, from the age of fairy tales. On one of these floating landmasses, Helios was sure he could find a Keyblade of Darkness¡ªa powerful relic that could aid him in his quest. As they reached the floating landmasses, Helios could feel the presence of Heartless intensifying. They were being drawn to him like moths to a flame, attracted by the growing darkness within him. He knew he had to be cautious¡ªone wrong step, and he could be overwhelmed. Helios cloaked himself in shadows to hide his scent, moving stealthily across the floating platforms. He used his dark form to blend with the environment, evading the swarming Heartless as he made his way toward the area he believed held the Keyblade. His heart pounded with anticipation as he finally arrived at a floating island adorned with hundreds of glowing keys. The sight was surreal¡ªan ethereal field of forgotten Keyblades, remnants of the age of fairy tales. Helios scanned the area carefully, searching for the one that would answer his call. He could feel it¡ªa faint connection drawing him toward a specific Keyblade among the countless others. He reached out toward it, his hand hovering over the hilt. Just as his fingers brushed the cold metal, Kurai¡¯s voice cut through the air like a blade. ¡°Dodge.¡± Helios didn¡¯t hesitate. Instinctively, he activated his dark form and leaped backward with all his strength. In an instant, a massive Heartless, resembling a monstrous lion, crashed down from above, its impact obliterating the platform where Helios had stood moments before. The force of its arrival sent debris flying, and Helios, along with several Keyblades, plummeted toward the abyss below. As Helios fell, he caught a glimpse of the Heartless. Its body was a twisted amalgamation of dark purple and black, with dark magenta spikes jutting from its head, back, and tail. Its massive yellow eyes gleamed with malice, and its legs were wrapped in broken chains, as though it had recently escaped from captivity. Helios shifted midair, desperately reaching for something to break his fall. He managed to grab onto a chunk of debris, using his dark form to slow his descent. The Heartless, however, wasn¡¯t far behind, diving after him with terrifying speed. The stakes had just risen. Helios narrowed his eyes, his mind racing. This was the moment he had trained for, the culmination of his journey in the Realm of Darkness. He had to defeat this creature and claim the Keyblade if he was to stand a chance. But the odds were against him, and the Heartless was unlike anything he had faced before. As the battle in freefall began, Helios summoned all his strength, channeling the darkness within him. He knew this would be the fight that determined his future¡ªwhether he would rise as a powerful wielder of darkness or fall and become a Heartless like so many before him. The roar of the Heartless echoed through the dark skies, but Helios was ready. Chapter 15 As Helios plummeted through the darkness, he reacted instinctively, summoning his dark shield to brace for impact. The shield, shimmering with a sinister glow, enveloped him just before he crashed into a floating piece of land. The force of the collision sent shockwaves across the fragile platform, but the shield absorbed most of the damage. Even so, Helios felt the tremors in his bones as he tumbled across the cracked surface, quickly rising to his feet as he steadied himself. Around him, the keyblades that had fallen with him scattered in every direction, tumbling through the air like lost relics. Helios reached out, but before he could grasp one, a deafening crash shook the ground. The massive Dark Hide descended from above with a thunderous roar, its immense form sending gusts of wind that knocked the keyblades even farther away. The very land beneath Helios¡¯s feet cracked under the pressure of the Heartless¡¯s landing, threatening to break apart. Helios steadied himself, his heart racing as he faced the towering creature. Dark Hide was larger than he remembered from his fragmented memories, its body an ominous mixture of dark purple and black, with jagged spikes protruding from its back and limbs. Its glowing yellow eyes locked onto Helios, and in them, he saw an insatiable hunger for destruction. Kurai was right, Helios thought as he glanced at the scattered keyblades. Nevertheless, getting to them won¡¯t matter if I don¡¯t survive this. With a mighty roar, Dark Hide lunged at him, its massive claws leaving streaks of darkness in their wake. Helios quickly summoned his dark shield, blocking the initial onslaught. The impact rattled his bones, and he skidded backward, barely holding his ground. He needed to find an opening¡ªa way to strike back before the platform crumbled beneath them. The landmass groaned as Dark Hide attacked relentlessly, its claws tearing through the surface with every missed strike. Helios had no choice but to remain on the defensive, using his shield to deflect and counter with bursts of dark energy whenever an opportunity arose. However, Dark Hide was relentless. As Helios dodged and countered, the beast¡¯s speed and strength became apparent. The floating landmass was cracking under the pressure of the battle, and it wouldn¡¯t hold much longer. Helios gritted his teeth, summoning the darkness within himself. He knew that if this continued, the battle would drag him down into the abyss. He needed to end it swiftly. His focus narrowed as he gathered his strength, channeling the shadows around him. Dark form, much like the one Riku had mastered, coursed through him, enhancing his reflexes and agility. The tide of battle shifted as Helios began to evade Dark Hide¡¯s attacks with greater precision. Every claw swipe missed by mere inches as Helios moved like a shadow, slipping through the chaos with fluidity and grace. His dark form granted him speed that outmatched Dark Hide¡¯s size, allowing him to weave through its attacks. With each dodge, he left behind an afterimage, confusing the Heartless as it struck at empty space. Seizing the moment, Helios launched a barrage of Dark Firaga, dark flames erupting from his fingertips and slamming into Dark Hide¡¯s form. The beast recoiled, but only for a moment. It spun wildly, creating a vortex of shadows and flames that swirled around it like a whirlwind. Helios leaped into the air, flipping through the maelstrom of darkness, narrowly avoiding each fiery projectile that erupted from Dark Hide¡¯s wrath. The fight escalated into a deadly dance, Helios and the Heartless locked in an intense battle of survival. The floating landmass continued to crumble beneath them, fissures snaking across its surface. Every second felt like an eternity as Helios dodged, countered, and struck back with his dark projectiles. Dark Hide, however, was not finished. It began to summon afterimages of itself¡ªphantom copies that darted around the battlefield, their presence adding chaos to the already dangerous fight. Helios¡¯s heart pounded in his chest as he maneuvered through the storm of illusions, using every ounce of his energy to avoid the onslaught. I can¡¯t keep this up much longer, Helios thought, his body growing weary from the strain. His movements were slowing, his strikes becoming less precise. His stamina was running out, and the Heartless seemed to sense his exhaustion. Dark Hide prepared for a final, devastating attack. Gathering all its dark energy, the beast reared back, its form crackling with violent power. Helios braced himself, knowing this was the moment that would decide the battle. He had to act, or he would be consumed by the darkness. But just as Dark Hide unleashed its attack, something shifted in the air¡ªa movement Helios barely caught in time. ¡°Dodge!¡± Kurai¡¯s voice echoed in his mind. Helios barely managed to leap to the side as Dark Hide¡¯s attack obliterated the ground where he had stood. The force of the blast sent him sprawling, but before he could gather his bearings, he noticed something odd. Kurai, who had been silent for most of the battle, was nowhere to be seen. ¡°Where... did you go?¡± Helios muttered between labored breaths, his mind racing as confusion set in. He needed Kurai¡¯s guidance now more than ever. Dark Hide charged, the air crackling with a tempest of darkness as the afterimages lunged forward in unison. Helios held his breath, ready for the impact¡ªwhen suddenly, a dark corridor materialized beside him, emanating a familiar energy. Without hesitation, Helios dove into the corridor, the shadows swallowing him just as Dark Hide¡¯s claws raked across the spot where he¡¯d stood shattering the landmass behind him. The Heartless screeched in frustration, its massive form flailing as Helios disappeared into the shadows. For a moment, the world spun, and when they emerged from the corridor, they stood on another floating platform, hidden from the Heartless¡¯s view. Helios collapsed onto the ground, gasping for air. His entire body ached, his muscles burning with fatigue. Kurai hovered beside him, its energy swirling with disinterest. ¡°Your stamina was failing, and you were moments from death,¡± Kurai said, its voice void of emotion. ¡°The creature¡¯s attack would have ended you. We are hidden from its senses now, but you must rest and recover. Another encounter like that could be fatal.¡± Helios nodded, still catching his breath. ¡°Thanks,¡± he managed between gasps. ¡°But you¡¯ve been¡ gone. I was beginning to wonder if you¡¯d abandoned me.¡± Kurai tilted its head, seemingly unfazed by Helios¡¯s comment. ¡°You¡¯re still of use to me. I don¡¯t abandon my investments.¡± Its dark energy pulsed, briefly enveloping Helios, and infusing him with a stabilizing feeling. ¡°Rest now. I have temporarily concealed us from its senses.¡± Helios gazed at the distant battlefield; the landmass where Dark Hide had once stood was now fractured and disintegrating. He watched as the massive Heartless leaped to another platform, prowling for him, its glowing red eyes scanning the darkness. The cracks in the ground spread like spiderwebs, and eventually, the entire landmass crumbled into the abyss below. He sighed, still catching his breath. ¡°What now?¡± Kurai¡¯s dark form shimmered. ¡°We wait for the next opportunity. The Keyblade you seek is still out there. You will recover, obtain your weapon, and then you will face the Heartless again.¡± Chapter 16 As Helios caught his breath, Kurai¡¯s voice cut through the tension-filled air, urging him to be quiet. ¡°We must remain silent, Helios,¡± Kurai whispered, their voice barely audible. ¡°It¡¯s still searching for you, and its senses are keen. My concealment can only protect you for so long.¡± Helios nodded, understanding the gravity of the situation. He glanced towards the direction where Dark Hide had leapt to, watching as the monstrous Heartless scoured the landmasses, its glowing red eyes scanning the darkness in search of its prey. The land trembled under its weight as it moved. Kurai¡¯s voice broke the silence by sounding through Helios¡¯ mind, explaining the precariousness of their situation. ¡°While your attacks did inflict damage upon it, they only served to anger the creature. It knows that you are here somewhere, and it is hunting for you. I managed to pull you to safety and hide your presence, but the Heartless still believes we are in the vicinity.¡± A question rose in Helios¡¯s mind, and he focused his thoughts, hoping Kurai could hear. ¡°Why can I hear you in my head? And if you can summon dark corridors, why didn¡¯t we escape before? There¡¯s more you¡¯re not telling me, isn¡¯t there?¡± There was a brief silence before Kurai¡¯s voice replied, this time with an uncharacteristic edge. ¡°That corridor wasn¡¯t mine,¡± Kurai admitted. ¡°It belonged to another darkness-wielder, passing through. I merely¡ influenced it to come our way. Using it too often would have exposed us to unwanted attention from both the Heartless and the creator of that portal.¡± After a pause, Kurai¡¯s tone shifted, dark energy ebbing in the background. ¡°And, Helios¡ the concealment you see is draining me. I won¡¯t be able to hide us for long.¡± Helios processed this revelation in silence. Kurai had borrowed power to save him, an act that carried more risk than he¡¯d realized. Despite his growing trust issues, he couldn¡¯t ignore the efforts Kurai had taken to shield him. Yet, he noted Kurai¡¯s evasion on the question of why he could hear its voice in his mind¡ªa mystery he would press later. ¡°Thank you, Kurai. I appreciate it,¡± he thought, careful not to betray his deeper reservations. ¡°f it knows I¡¯m here I don¡¯t think it will leave anytime soon, I doubt it¡¯d give up easily. Our best chance might be to stay hidden until the right moment presents itself.¡± Kurai¡¯s dark energy grew somewhat gentle. They nodded in acknowledgment and reaffirmed their commitment to their shared goal. Helios steeled himself, fully aware that the battle was far from over. As they huddled in the shroud of darkness, Helios focused on conserving his energy and sharpening his senses. He listened intently to the ominous rumblings of the Heartless, tracking its movements as it continued its search. ¡°Is it possible to move while shrouded by your power?¡± asked Helios with his thoughts to which Kurai shook its head and responded by thinking, ¡°I don¡¯t have enough power at the moment.¡± Time seemed non-existent in the darkness, but Helios had to remain patient. He knew that the opportunity would arise, while the current landmass had no keyblades there should still be some on the others. And when that moment came, he would be ready to seize it. This story has been stolen from Royal Road. If you read it on Amazon, please report it Their best chance at survival lay in acquiring a keyblade so Helios focused his thoughts, strategizing on how to navigate the treacherous landscape and locate a keyblade while evading the relentless pursuit of the Dark Hide. As the Heartless continued its search, Helios meticulously observed its movements, noting patterns and possible vulnerabilities. He analyzed the floating landmasses, their positions, and the distance between them, plotting a course that would lead him to the keyblade he sought. Outside of Kurai¡¯s concealment, Helios cautiously ventured out from their hiding spot. He moved with silent precision, carefully traversing the unstable terrain, making use of his heightened senses to detect any signs of the Heartless¡¯s approach. As he explored the surrounding landmasses, he remained vigilant, his eyes scanning for the glimmering light of a keyblade. He leaped from one piece of land to another, using his agility to maintain a swift yet stealthy pace. Each jump was calculated, every movement deliberate, as he strived to remain undetected by both the Heartless and any other lurking threats. In this game of shadows, Helios pushed his physical and mental limits. His determination to obtain his prize fueled his every step, his resolve unyielding. With each passing moment, his anticipation grew, knowing that the keyblade he sought was almost within reach. As the Dark Hide searched on, Helios¡¯s focus remained unbroken. He surveyed the landmasses, searching for the telltale glimmer of a keyblade amidst the darkness. He moved swiftly and silently, his steps guided by a mixture of instinct and intuition. Finally, his keen eyes caught a glimpse of the coveted keyblade. It stood defiantly, embedded in a massive rock formation on a distant landmass. Most likely it lodged itself in the rock from the previous landmass. The distance seemed daunting, but Helios knew that to survive he had to reach it. He leaped from one floating piece of land to another, his movements graceful and precise. As he closed in on the target, the Heartless sensed his presence. It unleashed a barrage of dark projectiles, attempting to hinder his progress. Helios dodged and weaved, his reflexes honed to perfection. He relied on his instinct to guide him through the storm of darkness, never losing sight of his goal. With one final leap, Helios reached the landmass housing the keyblade. He approached it stealthily, aware of the danger that lurked nearby. He extended his hand, his fingers closing around the hilt of the keyblade. A surge of a strange power coursed through his body as he firmly grasped the weapon, its weight a comforting reassurance. It was then that the Dark Hide landed behind Helios, launching him a few feet away with a gust. The Heartless, enraged by the weapon in Helios¡¯s hand, launched a devastating attack. Helios, now wielding the keyblade, met the assault head-on. He unleashed a flurry of strikes, combining his own skills with the newfound power of the keyblade. Using the keyblade to channel his darkness amplified the power of his Dark Firaga by nearly tripling its previous output. Helios, harnessing the power of darkness, unleashed a torrent of Dark Firagas toward the Dark Hide. Each dark flame seared through the air, engulfing the Heartless in its destructive embrace. But the Dark Hide was not easily defeated. It swiftly evaded the magical onslaught, its agility and dark nature allowing it to navigate through the chaotic barrage unscathed. Undeterred, Helios adapted his strategy, combining his magical prowess with swift and evasive maneuvers. He dodged and weaved through the Heartless¡¯s counterattacks, narrowly evading its devastating swipes and dark projectiles. With every dodge, Helios seized the opportunity to retaliate. He struck with precision, delivering powerful blows that reverberated through the air, causing the Dark Hide to stagger momentarily. Chapter 17 The battle raged on, a dance of darkness and light. Helios¡¯s movements became a blur as he continued to assault the Heartless with a relentless flurry of attacks. The keyblade, an extension of his will, responded to his every command, channeling the darkness within him into potent strikes. The clash of metal and dark energy reverberated through the night, a symphony of battle. Yet, the Dark Hide was a formidable adversary. It retaliated with increased ferocity, its claws slashing through the air, and its dark aura pulsating with an intense malevolence. Helios could feel the strain on his body and mind as his wounds increased, but he pushed through, his determination unwavering. The battle reached a crescendo as Helios summoned his darkest powers. Dark energy surged through him, enveloping the keyblade in a swirling vortex of shadows. With a mighty swing, he unleashed a devastating attack that cleaved through the Heartless¡¯s defenses, leaving a trail of darkness in its wake. The Dark Hide roared in pain and fury, its form briefly faltering under the onslaught. But even as the Heartless staggered, it refused to yield. It retaliated with a final, desperate assault. Helios, his instincts honed to perfection, anticipated the attack and evaded with a swift, acrobatic maneuver. The Dark Hide¡¯s strike missed its mark, its claws tearing through the empty air. Seizing the opportunity, Helios swiftly counterattacked, striking the Heartless with an unyielding fury. Blow after blow, he channeled what remained of his darkness into the keyblade, exploiting every weakness in the Dark Hide¡¯s defenses. The Heartless writhed in agony, its form flickering with each strike. Finally, with a final, resounding blow, Helios delivered the decisive strike. The keyblade pierced through the Dark Hide¡¯s skin, causing it to emit a haunting shriek of defeat. Sensing its imminent defeat, the Heartless jumped into the air and vanished, leaving only a void in its wake and echoes of its malevolence behind. Helios, panting heavily, stood amidst the dissipating shadows, his body battered but his spirit triumphant. The battle had been arduous, a true test of his skills and resolve. Yet, he emerged victorious, having proven himself worthy of the power he wielded. Although he knew he hadn¡¯t destroyed the creature he knew it wouldn¡¯t be back anytime soon. Kurai materialized beside Helios, their presence offering a sense of reassurance. ¡°I no longer sense the that heartless in this vicinity,¡± Kurai stated, their voice returning to its normal eerie calm tone. ¡°But we cannot let our guard down. The weaker Heartless are gathering.¡± Just as Helios prepared to catch his breath, a swarm of Neoshadow and Darkside Heartless emerged from the shadows, their yellow eyes gleaming with malevolence. With a resolute determination, he sprinted forward, Kurai close behind him. The keyblade in his hand vanished in a mixed stream of light and darkness. As Helios pushed his body to its limits, his every muscle burning with exertion. Running at full speed, Helios made a strategic decision to leave the immediate area. He knew that staying to fight the incoming Heartless would serve no purpose now that he had achieved his goal of acquiring the keyblade. Survival was paramount, and a tactical retreat was necessary. With each stride, Helios propelled himself forward, the landscape blurring as he raced against time. Kurai followed close behind, their guidance and ability to sense the incoming heartless paramount to their evasion. Following Kurai¡¯s orders, Helios navigated through the treacherous terrain, evading the relentless pursuit of the Heartless. The tale has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident. With his body aching and both their energies depleted, Helios and Kurai made a desperate escape from the relentless pursuit of the Heartless. Leaving behind the crumbling remnants of their previous battleground, they found themselves in the now-decaying world of Castle of Dreams, once a vibrant kingdom that had fallen to darkness. Kurai had managed to use the previous trick of borrowing another¡¯s corridor to transport them away from the pursuing horde. As Helios stepped through the dilapidated threshold of Cinderella¡¯s old house, a sense of temporary respite washed over him. The once elegant home now stood as a refuge amidst the decaying world of Castle of Dreams. Helios gently laid himself down on a tattered couch, his body weary and battered from the relentless battles he had endured. As they ran through the desolate streets, the sound of their footsteps echoed in the empty air. Helios could feel the heavy weight of the Heartless presence closing in on them. Neoshadow and Darkside Heartless emerged from the shadows, their glowing yellow eyes fixated on their prey. With a burst of adrenaline, Helios dodged and weaved, narrowly avoiding the lunges and strikes of the Heartless. His agility and reflexes, honed through countless battles, served him well in this desperate escape. He retaliated with swift, precise strikes, utilizing the darkness within him to launch powerful attacks against his pursuers. As the battle raged on, Helios could sense the relentlessness of the Heartless. Their numbers seemed endless, and their relentless pursuit showed no signs of waning. The Castle of Dreams, once a place of hope and dreams, now stood as a crumbling maze of danger and despair. Just as their energy was reaching its breaking point, a momentary opening presented itself. Helios seized the opportunity and sprinted with all his might, his footsteps echoing through the desolate streets. Kurai, guiding him through the shadows, followed closely, their presence intertwining. They weaved through the ruins, their breaths heavy and ragged. The Heartless, relentless in their pursuit, growled and roared behind them, their dark forms casting menacing silhouettes against the crumbling walls. Finally, as if by a stroke of luck, they reached the relative safety of Cinderella¡¯s old house. The Heartless seemed to hesitate, keeping a cautious distance from the building. It was as if the remnants of Cinderella¡¯s pure heart, once residing in this place, still held some protective power against the encroaching darkness. Helios collapsed onto the floor of the house, his body weary and his breaths labored. They knew their respite would be brief, for the Heartless would soon renew their pursuit. Kurai then said, ¡°A powerful light used to be here. The heartless won¡¯t come here easily so rest and regain your strength. I¡¯m a bit weak right now so I can¡¯t stay here. I¡¯ll head into your shadow to regain my own power.¡± Kurai weakened from their previous use of borrowed power, flew and melded into Helios¡¯ shadow, seeking solace and restoration. Rest was essential for both of them, as the toll of their recent trials weighed heavily upon their beings. Kurai¡¯s power had waned, and Helios needed time to recuperate his strength. As Helios closed his eyes, he could feel the faint remnants of Cinderella¡¯s presence within the house. Her spirit, strong and resilient, seemed to permeate the very walls. Perhaps it was her connection to the Princesses of Heart that deterred the Heartless from venturing too close to this place of solace. In this quiet haven, Helios allowed himself to succumb to exhaustion, knowing that rest was crucial to his continued journey. Time seemed to pass in a blur as Helios drifted into a deep sleep, his mind and body finding solace in the sanctuary of Cinderella¡¯s home. Dreams and memories intertwined, transporting him to a distant world filled with familiar faces. Helios saw the two faces he wished to see most of all. It was a brief respite from the relentless battles and the weight of his responsibilities. Outside, the Heartless prowled the crumbling streets of the Castle of Dreams, their eerie presence casting long shadows. But for now, within the protective embrace of Cinderella¡¯s old house, Helios found a momentary sanctuary. He would need all the strength he could gather for the challenges that awaited them beyond these fragile walls. Chapter 18 As Helios slowly awakened from his deep slumber, he felt a searing pain coursing through his entire body. Every muscle and bone ached, reminding him of the fierce battle he had endured. With great effort, he managed to sit up, his breaths shallow and labored. He winced and grabbed his head as he felt a splitting headache that lasted for a few seconds before vanishing. Summoning his remaining strength, Helios extended his trembling hand, palm open, and focused his thoughts. In a flash of electrified darkness emanating a radiant light at its center, his keyblade materialized before him. It was a sight he had not been able to fully appreciate during the chaotic battle. He gazed upon the keyblade, its two-toned color scheme of black and silver catching his eye. The blade itself appeared as if it had been forged from two distinct halves, seamlessly merged together in perfect equilibrium. The handle boasted an intricate design, with spiraling black and silver details intertwining in an elaborate pattern. Its teeth formed the outline of a black sun with a silver moon nestled within. Helios marveled at the craftsmanship, realizing the significance of this weapon in his hands. The keychain, shaped like a black sun with a white moon nestled within, symbolized the delicate balance between light and darkness. The charm, though small in size, displayed remarkable detail and was crafted from high-quality metal. A smile crept across Helios¡¯ weary face as he admired the keyblade. It was a fitting name that came to his mind¡ªEquilibrium¡ªa testament to the design¡¯s representation of the harmony between opposing forces. He hoped that this keyblade would grant him the power to navigate the treacherous path ahead. Though his body still throbbed with pain, Helios found solace and strength in the presence of Equilibrium. It would be his guiding force as he faced the trials and battles that awaited him. He steadied his grip on the keyblade, preparing to wield it with all the determination he could muster. However, as Helios attempted to channel the darkness through Equilibrium, the strain proved too much for his weakened state. His trembling hand lost its grip, and the keyblade slipped from his grasp, clattering to the ground. He sighed in frustration and exhaustion, realizing that he needed to rest and recover before he could fully harness the power of Equilibrium. The Heartless still lurked in the darkness, and his journey to restore what he had lost seemed daunting. Accepting his limitations, Helios made the difficult decision to lie back down, closing his eyes to rest his aching body. He knew that he needed to gather his strength and regain his focus before he could continue his mission. Help support creative writers by finding and reading their stories on the original site. With Equilibrium by his side, he found solace in knowing that he had a powerful ally waiting for him when he was ready. Helios drifted into a deep sleep, his dreams filled with visions of battles yet to come, and the hope that he would rise again, stronger and ready to face the challenges that awaited him. As Helios gradually woke from his deep slumber, his eyes blinked open to find Kurai floating nearby, its piercing gaze fixed upon him. Groggy and disoriented, Helios couldn¡¯t help but remark, ¡°You know, it¡¯s kinda creepy to wake up and find someone staring at you.¡± Kurai¡¯s dark energy rippled gently, almost resembling amusement. It replied, ¡°Apologies if I startled you. I was merely keeping watch over you while you rested.¡± Rubbing his eyes, Helios struggled to sit up, his body still sore and weary from the battles he had faced. He groaned and stretched, feeling the stiffness in his muscles. Turning to Kurai, he asked, ¡°How long have I been out?¡± Kurai¡¯s response carried a sense of uncertainty. ¡°If we were to use the concept of time from the realm of light, it has been approximately two days. However, time is not as linear or consistent in this realm of darkness.¡± Helios nodded, his mind processing the information. He understood that time operated differently in this distorted realm, where minutes could feel like hours and hours could pass in an instant. Feeling a lingering soreness in his body, Helios decided to summon his keyblade once again, hoping to gauge his strength and test his abilities. He extended his hand, focusing his thoughts and conjuring Equilibrium in a flash of electrified darkness with a center filled with light. Gripping the keyblade firmly, he felt a surge of energy flowing through him, although he still felt somewhat weakened. With Equilibrium in hand, Helios pondered Kurai¡¯s previous demonstration of opening a dark corridor. He recalled how Kurai had guided him through the process. Turning to Kurai, he asked, ¡°Can you show me again how to open a dark corridor? I want to see if I can do it myself.¡± Kurai nodded in approval. ¡°Very well. To open a dark corridor, focus on where you wish to go and envision a path connecting the two locations. Picture it in your mind, and then channel your darkness through the keyblade, guiding it to shape the corridor.¡± Helios closed his eyes, picturing a specific location he desired to reach. He imagined the destination clearly, feeling the connection forming in his mind. With a deep breath, he channeled his darkness through Equilibrium, willing it to shape a dark corridor that bridged the gap between his current location and the envisioned destination. To his surprise, as he opened his eyes, a flickering dark portal materialized before him. It pulsated with a faint, ominous energy, promising a passage to another place. Helios turned to Kurai, a mix of astonishment in his eyes. ¡°I did it! I opened a dark corridor!¡± Kurai¡¯s dark energy shimmered with satisfaction. ¡°Indeed, you have made great progress. Now, step through the corridor and trust in your instincts to guide you to your chosen destination.¡± Helios took a deep breath, mustering his resolve. He stepped towards the dark corridor, its mysterious depths beckoning him forward. With Equilibrium still in hand, he entered through the portal, ready to venture forth into the next leg of his journey. Chapter 19 As Helios and Kurai stepped out of the dark corridor, their surroundings transformed into the vibrant and bustling world of Radiant Garden. The city¡¯s streets were adorned with blooming flowers, vibrant market stalls, and the cheerful chatter of its inhabitants. The architecture showcased a blend of grandeur and elegance, with ornate buildings adorned with intricate carvings and colorful stained glass windows. Helios took a moment to absorb the sights and sounds, feeling a sense of relief wash over him. From merely looking at Ansem¡¯s castle he knew that he was back in time to a period approximately 10 to 9 years prior to the events of Kingdom Hearts 1 before this world became known as Hollow Bastion. Turning to Kurai, he inquired about their impressions of this world. Kurai, its dark aura shrouding its form, expressed its disapproval. ¡°This place reeks of light,¡± it hissed. ¡°There is nothing of interest here for me. It would be better if this world were consumed by darkness.¡± Though understanding Kurai¡¯s disdain for the brightness that surrounded them, Helios remained resolute in his purpose. ¡°I understand your sentiments, Kurai,¡± he replied, his voice laced with amusement. ¡°But for now, I need to do a few things here including confirming the time we are currently in. Moreover, I have heard that the esteemed wizard Merlin resides here, and I wish to learn the art of magic from him. Such knowledge will prove invaluable in our journey. Besides this world plays a crucial to the plot and I can¡¯t have either of us messing about too much.¡± Kurai¡¯s energy rippled with disinterest, but it recognized the logic in Helios¡¯ voice. Reluctantly, it withdrew further into Helios¡¯ shadows, conceding to Helios¡¯ decision. Embracing the opportunity that had presented itself, Helios set forth, his steps guided by a sense of curiosity and purpose. He meandered through the backstreets of Radiant Garden, which would eventually become Hollow Bastion, absorbing every detail. Normally he would walk straight to his destination but the repeated battles in the realm of darkness had left his clothes tattered and he would draw too much attention to himself. He marveled at the craftsmanship of the buildings, admiring the ornate carvings and stained glass windows. The air was filled with the scent of blooming flowers, and the joyful chatter of the townsfolk echoed through the streets, creating a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere. Guided by his knowledge, Helios made his way to the heart of the city, where Terra and the others met the legendary wizard Merlin. Passing by quaint shops and bustling marketplaces, he couldn¡¯t help but be captivated by the energy and liveliness that radiated from every corner. Finally, he reached the doorstep of Merlin¡¯s humble abode, a small cottage tucked away in a serene corner of the city. The cottage seemed to emit an aura of magic, as Helios drew closer. With a deep breath, he knocked on the wooden door, his heart filled with anticipation. ¡°Come in¡±, a voice filled with warmth and wisdom invited him in. As the door swung open, Helios stepped into a room that seemed to transcend space itself. The interior of Merlin¡¯s cottage was three times the size of the cottage and adorned with countless shelves filled with ancient tomes and mystical artifacts. Soft beams of sunlight filtered through the small windows, casting a bright warm glow on the worn wooden floors although it wasn¡¯t shining that much outside. Support creative writers by reading their stories on Royal Road, not stolen versions. Merlin, with his long white beard and twinkling eyes, greeted Helios with a gentle smile. The wizard sensed the darkness that the young man exuded. ¡°Ah, a traveler you seem to have had a harrowing journey,¡± Merlin exclaimed. ¡°Why don¡¯t you come inside and we can talk after we get you changed.¡± Helios, taken aback by the spaciousness and grandeur of the interior, followed Merlin¡¯s guidance. As he stepped further into the room, his eyes widened in amazement at the sheer magnitude of magical artifacts and books that adorned the shelves. He couldn¡¯t help but feel a sense of reverence for the knowledge and power that resided within these walls. Merlin led him to a side room, filled with a collection of garments of various styles and colors. ¡°Please, choose something more suitable to your current state,¡± Merlin suggested kindly. ¡°After all, a change of attire can do wonders for one¡¯s spirit.¡± Helios, perusing the assortment of clothing, settled upon a black and white button-down shirt, its collar left casually open. He paired it with sleek black pants and a pair of black and white shoes, each adorned with black shoelaces. The monochromatic ensemble reflected his affinity for balance and contrast, a visual representation that mimicked his keyblade. Emerging from the side room, Helios found Merlin waiting for him, a warm smile gracing his face. With a wave of his wand, the wizard conjured two steaming cups of tea and a plate of freshly baked scones, their aroma filling the air. Helios gratefully accepted the offered seat, settling into it as Merlin took a seat across from him. The cups were placed gently on the table, wisps of steam rising from their surface. He reached for a scone and took a hesitant bite, only to be engulfed by an overwhelming sensation of hunger¡ªa sensation that had been absent during his arduous journey through the realm of darkness. Eyes widening in surprise, Helios paused, momentarily caught off guard by the intensity of the feeling. It was as if his body had suddenly awakened to the need for sustenance, a reminder of his mortal nature. Merlin observed Helios¡¯ reaction, his eyes crinkling with a mix of amusement and understanding. ¡°Ah, it seems the realm of darkness has left you quite famished,¡± he remarked, his voice laced with gentle humor. ¡°Fear not, young man, for the nourishment of body and spirit shall help purify your body which has been seeped in darkness.¡± With a flick of his wand, Merlin conjured a generous spread of food¡ªa feast fit for a king. Platters of savory dishes, delectable pastries, and succulent fruits materialized before them, their enticing aromas enveloping the room. Helios, his hunger awakened, couldn¡¯t help but indulge in the bountiful array of food. He savored each bite, feeling a renewed vitality coursing through his veins as he partook in the nourishment that had eluded him for months. As he ate, Helios marveled at the depth of Merlin¡¯s magic. It was not merely the conjuring of sustenance, but a reminder of the power magic could grant one in this universe. It served as a testament to the immense power that the wizard wielded, and Helios wanted power equal to that. With each morsel consumed, Helios felt his strength and vitality replenish. Helios truly had no idea how weak he really felt until he consumed some physical nourishment. As the last remnants of the feast were cleared away, Helios leaned back in his chair content. ¡°Thank you, Sir,¡± he said sincerely, his voice filled with appreciation. ¡°Not only for the food you gave me but also for clothes.¡± Merlin¡¯s eyes twinkled with pride as he nodded in response. ¡°You¡¯re welcome young man, so now that you¡¯ve eaten would you care to answer some questions? ¡± he replied, his voice tinged with warmth. Helios¡¯ voice filled with gratitude, nodded in response to Merlin¡¯s question. ¡°Of course, Sir,¡± he replied, his voice respectful. ¡°I am at your disposal. Ask away.¡± Merlin leaned forward, his eyes piercing with curiosity. ¡°Tell me, young one,¡± he began, his voice carrying a weight of wisdom. ¡°How did you come to be in this realm? And why do you have such a strong veil of darkness surrounding your body?¡± Chapter 20 Helios took a moment to gather his thoughts, his gaze steady as he met Merlin¡¯s inquisitive eyes. He needed to get the old wizard on his side and that meant bending the truth slightly, ¡°I don¡¯t know how I got here. I come from a different place and it was called Nightfall. One day a man in a black coat attacked the city and these black monsters attacked us,¡± he answered earnestly. Merlin listened intently, his expression grave as Helios recounted his tale. ¡°Nightfall, you say? A place I am unfamiliar with,¡± he mused, his voice tinged with concern. ¡°It seems you have faced great adversity, and the darkness that surrounds you bears witness to that.¡± Helios nodded solemnly, his eyes reflecting the weight of his experiences. ¡°Indeed, Sir,¡± he replied, his voice tinged with anguish. ¡°The encounter with the man in the black coat and the relentless onslaught of darkness robbed me of my family and my world. They consumed everything and when I awoke I found myself in a dark ruin-like place filled with monsters. I hid and ran hiding from them until one day I was cornered and fell into a dark portal and that was when I wound up here. Merlin studied Helios for a moment, his eyes filled with a mixture of empathy and wisdom. ¡°It seems that life has dealt you a rather poor hand young man,¡± he remarked, his voice soft yet firm. ¡°But how did you come to knock on my door? I doubt it¡¯s a coincidence you found me one of the few men in this world who could help you.¡± Helios took a moment to gather his thoughts, considering how much truth and how much fabrication to include in his answer. He decided to mix the two, weaving a tale that contained elements of truth and fiction. ¡°Sir Merlin, in the dark ruin-like place, I witnessed haunting visions, glimpses of a forgotten past,¡± he began, his voice tinged with a hint of mystery. ¡°In those visions, I heard whispers of a powerful wizard named Merlin, a renowned figure who could harness the light to fight against the encroaching darkness.¡± Merlin¡¯s eyebrows arched in curiosity, his skepticism evident. ¡°Visions, you say?¡± he questioned, his voice filled with caution. ¡°Such tales are often laced with imagination and half-truths. Are you certain of what you saw?¡± Helios nodded earnestly, a mix of truth and fiction interwoven in his response. ¡°I cannot claim absolute certainty, Sir,¡± he replied, his voice carrying a touch of sincerity. ¡°But the visions were quite vivid. So when I arrived in this strange world I thought I should search for the wizard and maybe I might find a clue to regain what I¡¯ve lost. I was hopeful but I never thought I would truly find you.¡± Merlin studied Helios, his expression a mix of curiosity and doubt. After a moment of contemplation, he sighed and made a decision. ¡°Very well, young one,¡± he said, his voice tempered with caution. ¡°I will choose to accept your story, although I remain wary of its authenticity. ¡± Help support creative writers by finding and reading their stories on the original site. Helios felt a wave of relief wash over him at Merlin¡¯s words. He then bowed his head and asked, ¡°Can you please help me and teach me? I don¡¯t know who that man or those creatures were and why they destroyed my home. Please I beg of you.¡± ¡°If you seek my guidance, I shall offer it but do not take my trust for granted.¡±, The old wizard led him through the cottage to a cozy bedroom. ¡°Rest here for now,¡± Merlin offered kindly. ¡°We shall discuss this more in due time.¡± As Helios lay on the bed, he suddenly heard Kurai¡¯s voice resonating in his mind, a telepathic connection forged within the depths of his shadow. ¡°Helios, be cautious of your words within the cottage,¡± it warned. ¡°There is a spell cast upon its interior, allowing that wizard to eavesdrop on conversations. Choose your words wisely and be mindful of the information you share.¡± Helios acknowledged Kurai¡¯s warning, his mind alert for he knew that within the cottage¡¯s walls, his words needed to be measured and strategic. Helios yawned as he gazed at the night sky through the window. Tomorrow would be the crucial moment when he would get the old wizard to agree to teach him magic. Helios rested on the bed, unaware of the secret room hidden within the walls of Merlin¡¯s cottage. Merlin, with a sense of urgency, approached a specific wall, his hand pressed against it. As his touch made contact, a hidden mechanism was triggered, causing the wall to slide open, revealing a hidden chamber bathed in soft light. Stepping into the secret room, Merlin raised his hands and began to chant ancient incantations. The air crackled with magic as the cauldron in the center of the room came to life. The liquid inside began to swirl and ripple, forming the image of a grey-bearded old man in a blue robe and a hat with stars¡ªa sight familiar to both Merlin and Helios. Merlin greeted the image with reverence. ¡°Yen Sid,¡± he addressed the figure, his voice filled with respect. ¡°I have a visitor, a young man named Helios, who claims to have come from a world consumed by darkness. He speaks of visions while trapped in the realm of darkness and seeks guidance.¡± Yen Sid¡¯s gaze fell upon Merlin, his wise eyes filled with curiosity. ¡°Tell me more, Merlin,¡± he responded, his voice calm yet authoritative. ¡°What is it that this young man seeks, and what does he hope to achieve?¡± Merlin proceeded to relay the information he had heard and gleamed from Helios¡ªthe destruction of his world, the man in the black coat, and the relentless darkness that pursued him. He spoke of Helios¡¯ desire to regain what he had lost and his plea for guidance. Yen Sid listened attentively, his expression grave as he absorbed the information. After a moment of contemplation, he spoke, his voice resonating with wisdom. ¡°Merlin, you have done well in bringing this matter to my attention. This young man bearing the presence of darkness speaks to a troubling future. I would ask you to keep an eye on him for a while and see what information he has not revealed. We need to know more about this boy and the man in the black coat he spoke of.¡± Merlin nodded, his trust in Yen Sid unwavering. ¡°Understood, Yen Sid,¡± he expressed sincerely. ¡°I shall offer to teach this young man Helios temporarily and attempt to see what he is hiding.¡± With their conversation concluded, Yen Sid¡¯s image gradually dissipated from the cauldron, returning it to its original state. Merlin stepped out of the secret room, made his way back to the hall, took a seat, and started to read one of his many books. Inside the bedroom, Helios was still resting, unaware of the discussion that had taken place. Chapter 21 Helios awoke after a night¡¯s rest and stretched as this might have been the best sleep he had in months. As Helios lay on the bed, his mind began to drift, contemplating the events that had led him to this moment. The room was adorned with simple yet comforting decor, and the soft glow of the lamp on the bedside table cast a warm ambiance. It was in this serene atmosphere that Helios found himself pondering the path ahead. Later, a gentle knock on the bedroom door interrupted his thoughts. Merlin¡¯s voice followed, permeating the room. ¡°Helios, if you are ready, I would like to continue our conversation,¡± the wizard called out. Helios sat up, adjusting his posture and clearing his mind. He responded, ¡°I am ready, Sir. Please, give me a moment to get ready and I¡¯ll join you soon.¡± Helios rose from the bed and made his way to the small bathroom adjacent to the bedroom. He freshened up, splashing cool water on his face, and ran a comb through his hair. Taking a moment to gather his thoughts, he steeled himself for the conversation ahead. It was clear that Merlin held the key to unlocking the answers he sought, and he needed to approach the discussion with both respect and determination. As he emerged from the bedroom, Helios found Merlin waiting in the main room of the cottage, a warm smile gracing his features. The wizard motioned for him to take a seat at the cozy table, where a steaming cup of tea awaited him. Helios settled into the chair, the scent of the fragrant brew filling his senses. ¡°First, let us address the darkness that surrounds you,¡± Merlin began, his voice calm yet firm. ¡°It is a powerful force that must be understood and purged, lest it consumes you. Tell me about what happened?¡± Helios nodded, his gaze focused on Merlin, ready to absorb every word of wisdom. ¡°I have sensed the darkness within me, and it frightens me,¡± Helios admitted, his voice tinged with vulnerability. ¡°When my world was being destroyed my parents and I were suddenly attacked. The creature grabbed them and I was swallowed by a swirling black hole. I started to hear the voice of my parents but something was off as they told me to give in to allow myself to be consumed. The last thing I remember is two bright lights protecting me and I swear I could hear my mom and dad¡¯s voice telling me to never give up and that they¡¯ll always protect me.¡± Merlin listened attentively, his gaze filled with a mixture of concern and understanding. ¡°Your experience is both harrowing and perplexing,¡± he remarked, his voice filled with empathy. ¡°The darkness that surrounds you seems to be intertwined with the loss of your family and your world. It is not uncommon for such traumas to leave a lasting mark, but there is more to this darkness than meets the eye.¡± Helios leaned forward, his eyes searching for answers. ¡°What do you mean, Sir? What could be causing this darkness, and how can I rid myself of it?¡± he asked, faking the mixture of hope and desperation in his voice. Merlin took a deep breath, his expression grave yet determined. ¡°The answers lie in understanding the nature of darkness itself,¡± he explained. ¡°Darkness is a force that can lead to corruption. It is often drawn to pain, loss, despair, and negative emotions seeking to exploit those emotions and twist them into something destructive. Your connection to the darkness may stem from the traumatic events you witnessed.¡± Support the creativity of authors by visiting Royal Road for this novel and more. Helios nodded, absorbing Merlin¡¯s words with a mix of trepidation and resolve. ¡°What must I do, Sir? How can I confront and overcome this darkness?¡± he inquired. Merlin placed a hand on Helios¡¯ shoulder, his touch reassuring. ¡°You must let go of the negative emotions and trauma. This however takes time and it is most likely not something that can be done soon. The power exists within you but never use it or it shall take control of you,¡± he replied. ¡°I will need to consult some of my books to see if there is a way to help seal that power.¡± Helios looked at Merlin, ¡°You can seal darkness, Sir? Can that truly help me be free of it?¡± he asked, his voice filled with curiosity. Merlin¡¯s smile widened, filled with a mix of wisdom and excitement. ¡°As I said I¡¯m not sure I may be able to do so but to truly be rid of it requires the strength of your heart,¡± he answered. ¡°Now enough of that, I will explain to you what those creatures who attacked your world were.¡± Helios nodded, his eyes fixed on Merlin, pretending eager to learn more about the heartless that already had knowledge of. ¡°Please, Sir, tell me about those creatures. Who were they, and why did they attack my world?¡± he inquired, his voice laced with a sense of anticipation. Merlin took a moment to gather his thoughts, his expression growing serious. ¡°The creatures that attacked your world are known as Heartless,¡± he began, his voice carrying a weight of caution. ¡°They are the embodiment of darkness, born from the hearts consumed by the shadows. Their purpose is to seek out and devour the light, plunging worlds into darkness.¡± ¡°But why did they specifically target my world? Was it random, or was there a reason behind their attack?¡± Helios pressed, his voice tinged with a mix of curiosity and a subtle rage. Merlin¡¯s eyes narrowed, his voice tinged with a somber tone. ¡°The Heartless are drawn to worlds that possess strong ties to the power of the heart,¡± he explained. ¡°Your world must have had a significant presence of light and hearts, making it a prime target for the Heartless. They aim to engulf and consume the hearts within, spreading darkness and chaos. That man in the black coat you spoke of must have drawn a few to your world and they brought the rest.¡± Helios clenched his fists, his anticipation growing stronger. ¡°Then is there a way to restore my world and its people,¡± he asked, his voice filled with resolve. Merlin saw Helios¡¯ eagerness and was sad to shake his head as he said, ¡°As of this time I know no way of restoring things taken by the heartless.¡± Of course, Helios knew that already and he knew how to restore his world but he needed Merlin to feel bad for him to increase his chance of getting a positive response to his next question. He then said, ¡°If I can¡¯t bring them back then I want to learn how to fight back, to be able to find what remains and protect it. If I survived then there may be others who did too, so please Sir can you help me? You seem powerful can you teach me to fight to prevent them from harming those I care about.¡± Merlin observed Helios carefully, his eyes filled with a mixture of admiration and caution. ¡°Your determination is commendable, Helios,¡± he said, acknowledging the sincerity of Helios¡¯ request. ¡°To stand against the Heartless, you will need to embrace the power of your own heart and wield the power of light. I can guide you and provide you with the knowledge and training necessary to confront them, but I must warn you, that the path you seek is perilous and fraught with challenges.¡± Helios nodded, his resolve unwavering. ¡°I understand, Sir. I am willing to face whatever challenges lie ahead. I want to protect those I care about and prevent further harm from befalling our worlds,¡± he declared, his voice filled with determination. Merlin¡¯s smile widened, his eyes reflecting a mix of mentorship and support. ¡°Very well, Helios. Your journey to become a wizard begins now,¡± he affirmed. ¡°But remember, the power of magic comes with great responsibility. You must learn to control it and wield it with a heart of pure goodness.¡± Helios nodded, his gaze fixed on Merlin, ready to absorb every lesson and guidance. ¡°I will do my best, Sir. Please teach me,¡± he requested, his voice filled with gratitude and eagerness. Chapter 22 Merlin gestured for Helios to follow him. ¡°Come, let us begin your training. We will start by honing your connection to the light and teaching you the basics of combat,¡± he said, leading the way up a set of stairs to a training area within the cottage that Helios was sure didn¡¯t exist the day before. Merlin led Helios to a spacious training room, its walls lined with ancient tomes and mystical artifacts. In the center of the room, a large wooden table held various magical instruments and potions. The room was filled with an aura of anticipation and possibility. ¡°Now, Helios,¡± Merlin began, ¡°before we delve into combat training, it is essential that we explore the realm of magic. Magic will serve as a powerful ally in your battles against the Heartless.¡± Helios listened attentively, eager to expand his abilities. Merlin continued, ¡°Magic comes in various forms, each with its unique properties. Tell me, Helios, what type of magic do you wish to learn? Would you prefer to focus on healing others, developing defensive spells like a shield, or offensive spells to wipe out your enemies?¡± Helios recognized this as a test, a way for Merlin to gauge his intentions and character. He wasted no time thinking and responding, ¡°I wish to learn magic that can help me support and protect others. If given the choice, I would like to learn healing magic to aid those in need. And if defensive spells are available, a way to shield myself and my allies would be invaluable.¡± A smile tugged at the corners of Merlin¡¯s lips, pleased with Helios¡¯ thoughtful response. ¡°Excellent choice, Helios,¡± he said, his voice filled with approval. ¡°Let us begin with the basics. I will teach you the spell ¡®Cure¡¯ for healing and ¡®Aero¡¯ for defense.¡± Merlin guided Helios to the table, where a crystal vial containing a shimmering liquid awaited. ¡°This vial contains the essence of Cure. It possesses the power to mend wounds and restore vitality,¡± he explained, handing the vial to Helios. ¡°To cast Cure, you must focus your intent on healing, channeling the magic through your heart and into your target. Try it now, Helios.¡± Helios held the vial, feeling its energy pulsating within. He closed his eyes, concentrating on the desire to heal and the well-being of others. As he channeled his intent, a soft glow enveloped his body from above, and a warm healing light embraced him, demonstrating the successful casting of Cure. Merlin nodded approvingly. ¡°Well done, Helios. You have a natural affinity for healing magic. With practice, you will be able to mend wounds and restore vitality to those in need. I¡¯m surprised that you picked it up so fast.¡± Next, Merlin guided Helios to a different section of the room where a set of ancient runes were etched into the floor. ¡°Now, let us focus on Aero, a spell that harnesses the power of wind to create a defensive barrier,¡± Merlin explained. ¡°To cast Aero, you must visualize a protective wall of wind forming around you or your allies. Feel the power of the air around you and channel it through your heart.¡± Stolen content warning: this tale belongs on Royal Road. Report any occurrences elsewhere. Helios followed Merlin¡¯s instructions, closing his eyes and immersing himself in the visualization. He could feel the energy of the air, the currents swirling around him. With a surge of concentration, he extended his hand, and a powerful gust of wind erupted beneath him causing him to crash into a nearby wall. Merlin applauded Helios¡¯ progress. ¡°Seems like you don¡¯t have a natural talent for defensive spells, Helios. This is the usual result for those that first practice magic. Keep practicing that spell and hopefully, your mastery of it shall increase not too long from now.¡± Helios nodded, determined to improve his skills in defensive magic. He acknowledged that mastery would require time and practice. He thanked Merlin for his guidance and expressed his commitment to honing his abilities. Over the following weeks, Helios dedicated himself to rigorous training, diligently practicing the spells of Cure and Aero under Merlin¡¯s watchful eye. With each attempt, he became more attuned to the magic within him, refining his control and focus. As time passed, Helios¡¯ proficiency with Cure grew, allowing him to heal minor wounds and ailments with ease. The warm glow of his healing magic brought relief to those he aided, instilling hope and gratitude in their hearts. Though Aero presented more challenges, Helios persevered, determined to master the defensive spell. With each failed attempt, he learned from his mistakes, adjusting his visualization and focusing his intent. Gradually, he found himself able to conjure a protective barrier, albeit with limited duration and stability. Merlin observed Helios¡¯ progress with satisfaction, providing guidance and encouragement along the way. He acknowledged Helios¡¯ determination and praised his growing skill in magic. ¡°Well done in the last three weeks you¡¯ve managed to master the basics of Cure and Aero. The more you use it the better the results so keep practicing. Now shall I teach you an offensive spell?¡± Noticing the look in Merlin¡¯s eye when he mentioned offensive magic Helios shook his head and said, ¡°No I¡¯d like to learn to practice these two spells more and really get them down. I don¡¯t want to juggle more than I can handle.¡± Merlin nodded, impressed by Helios¡¯ wisdom and self-awareness. ¡°Very well, Helios. It¡¯s important to focus on mastering the spells you have before moving on to more advanced techniques. Continual practice and refinement will undoubtedly strengthen your abilities.¡± Understanding the importance of consolidating his current skills and that he was always being watched, Helios spent the following weeks dedicated to honing his mastery of Cure and Aero. He delved deeper into the intricacies of each spell, experimenting with different techniques and variations to enhance their effectiveness. Although he never used it he was curious at what effect the spells would have if he mixed in darkness like he did with the Dark Firaga. Kurai his dark companion had been silent these past few weeks simply hiding in his shadow without a word telepathically. It had warned him that Merlin was aware of all actions committed inside the house. Helios tried his best to alleviate Merlin¡¯s suspicion, but this interfered with his plans as he had been in Radiant Garden for weeks now and he hadn¡¯t laid eyes on neither Xehanort nor Ansem the Wise yet. Helios decided to take advantage of Merlin¡¯s absence and go for a walk through the bustling streets of Radiant Garden. The city was a vibrant tapestry of lights and sounds, filled with the unfamiliar faces of background characters. It provided a temporary respite from his intense training and secret agenda. As he strolled through the busy thoroughfare, a soft voice called out to him from behind. Helios turned around, his gaze falling upon a woman dressed in a beautiful pink dress with magenta lining and buttons running down the front. Her attire was adorned with meticulous care, with all the buttons fastened except for the last two. He recognized her immediately¡ªit was Aerith, a familiar face from the game. Chapter 23 Keeping his composure, Helios played it cool and pretended not to recognize her. He raised an eyebrow and asked in a polite tone, ¡°I¡¯m sorry, but have we met before? Is there a reason you stopped me?¡± Aerith¡¯s cheeks flushed with a tinge of embarrassment. She quickly apologized, her voice soft and kind. ¡°I¡¯m sorry for stopping you without introducing myself. My name is Aerith. I thought you might have seen someone I¡¯m looking for.¡± Helios raised an eyebrow, pretending to ponder her description. ¡°A girl with short, black hair and a metal headband with two green tassels? Wearing a green tube top, tan short-shorts, and a blue belt around her waist?¡± Although he knew that this description most likely referred to Yuffie he shook his head gently and replied, ¡°I¡¯m afraid I haven¡¯t come across anyone matching that description. But if I do encounter her, I¡¯ll be sure to let her know that you¡¯re looking for her Aerith.¡± Aerith¡¯s expression softened, appreciating Helios¡¯ willingness to help. She bowed slightly and offered another apology, her voice filled with genuine sincerity. ¡°Thank you so much. I¡¯m sorry for the intrusion. I¡¯ll continue my search then. It was nice meeting you, even if it was under these circumstances.¡± Helios smiled warmly, appreciating Aerith¡¯s polite demeanor. ¡°The pleasure is mine. Good luck in your search Aerith.¡± With a nod of acknowledgment, Aerith turned and continued on her way, disappearing into the bustling crowd. Helios watched her go, his thoughts swirling with curiosity about the girl she was searching for. Yuffie, he thought to himself, recognizing the description and realizing the possibility of her involvement in the events unfolding in Radiant Garden. As he resumed his walk through the city, Helios couldn¡¯t help but be reminded that there are other forces at play due to his encounter with Aerith. The other individuals had their own quests and motivations so he knew that his path would intersect with theirs sooner or later. So if he played it right he could keep an eye out and uncover Xehanort and Ansem the Wise¡¯s actions. As Helios pondered his next move and the potential allies he could seek, his mind settled on the names Isa and Lea, better known as Axel and Saix in the future. They were once close friends and members of Organization XIII, but they had a deep bond with a girl who became a test subject of Ansem the Wise. They were motivated to uncover the truth and find a way to save her. Helios decided that connecting with Isa and Lea would be a logical step. Their shared history and desire to protect their friend made them useful tools in his quest to uncover Xehanort and Ansem the Wise¡¯s actions. Perhaps they would be able to provide him with valuable information and insights. Helios set out to find Isa and Lea, aware that their paths would eventually cross. He knew that time was of the essence and that this encounter would be crucial in uncovering the truth behind the mysteries surrounding Radiant Garden. Stolen story; please report. The only problem lay in how to encounter them. Helios was aware that their paths would eventually cross but he disliked wasting time especially when he was unsure as to how much time he had before Radiant Garden would fall into darkness. He knew that time was of the essence and that every wasted was crucial time he didn¡¯t have. As he ventured through the city, he couldn¡¯t shake the feeling that he was being watched. He figured it was Merline since Kurai still hadn¡¯t tried to communicate with him despite being outside the house. He could almost feel the weight of Merlin¡¯s gaze lingering on his back. But Helios remained focused on what he needed to do. After walking around the town for an hour visiting familiar sights Helios came across the two he was looking for. Helios observed Isa and Lea from a distance, recognizing them by their distinct appearances. He carefully approached, making sure not to startle them. As he got closer, he noticed their intense conversation and decided to wait for a more opportune moment to introduce himself. Isa wore a short-sleeved, navy blue jacket with a light blue stripe going along his shoulders to the ends of his sleeves. The jacket¡¯s collar is rather high and sky blue in coloration, as are the ends of the sleeves and the bottom hem of the jacket. There is a yellow-waning crescent moon symbol prominently displayed on the left breast of the jacket. Lea wore a sleeveless orange jacket with a white, sleeveless shirt underneath, and tan, baggy pants with red and white sneakers and black socks. The pockets of his jacket are a much darker shade of orange than the rest of it. He also wears a yellow and brown keffiyeh around his neck. The pattern of this keffiyeh changes abruptly near Lea¡¯s neck. Finding a nearby bench, Helios sat down and pretended to be engrossed in his own thoughts. He watched as Isa and Lea continued their discussion, their gestures and expressions filled with a mixture of determination and concern. It was clear that they were deeply invested in their mission to save their friend. As the conversation between Isa and Lea reached a pause, Helios seized the opportunity to approach them. With a friendly smile, he stood up and made his way toward the duo. ¡°Excuse me,¡± he said, his voice confident yet respectful. ¡°I wonder if you could help me? Have you seen a girl with short, black hair and a metal headband with two green tassels?¡± Helios used Aerith¡¯s request as a way to become acquainted with the two boys. Isa and Lea turned their attention to Helios, their eyes narrowing slightly as they assessed him. They exchanged glances before Isa spoke up, his voice cautious yet curious. ¡°A girl with short, black hair and a metal headband with green tassels? Why are you looking for her?¡± Helios maintained his friendly demeanor, meeting their gaze directly. ¡°I apologize for the abruptness. I recently had a conversation with a woman named Aerith who was searching for this girl. She seemed quite concerned, and I thought I might be able to assist in some way. My name is Helios, by the way.¡± Lea¡¯s eyes flickered with recognition at the mention of Aerith¡¯s name. He leaned against a nearby wall, crossing his arms, and regarded Helios with a mix of curiosity and skepticism. ¡°Aerith, huh? So she¡¯s looking for Yuffie? Why did she ask you and not us to help?¡± Isa stepped in front of Lea with suspicion in his eyes. ¡°Who are you? I don¡¯t believe we¡¯ve ever met and we know everybody in this town. So where did you come from?¡± ¡°Ah, my apologies my name is Helios. I¡¯m currently staying with an old man by the name of Merlin. As to why you¡¯ve never met me I couldn¡¯t answer that. I was found by Merlin without any memories so I don¡¯t know anything about who I am.¡± said Helios using what he knew about their female friend to craft a sympathetic story of his own to win them over. Chapter 24 Isa and Lea exchanged a skeptical glance, their suspicion evident. Isa¡¯s voice remained cautious as he spoke. ¡°So you don¡¯t remember anything about your past, but you¡¯re staying with that old man Merlin? That¡¯s quite a convenient arrangement. I don¡¯t know anybody who would just allow a stranger to live in their house especially when they have no idea who the stranger is.¡± Helios understood their hesitation and knew he needed to provide some reassurance. He met their gaze with sincerity. ¡°Yes I understand your concerns in fact I thought so too. In the end, all I can say is that I¡¯m grateful to him for choosing to help me.¡± Lea¡¯s skeptical expression softened slightly as he uncrossed his arms. ¡°Hmm, so you really don¡¯t remember anything huh? Well, my name¡¯s Lea got it memorized. That¡¯s Isa no need to memorize his name he¡¯s pretty forgettable.¡± Isa then light punched Lea¡¯s shoulder and said, ¡°Between me and you who¡¯s more forgettable? No need to answer it¡¯s you.¡± Helios nodded, ¡°Nice to meet you, Lea and Isa. My name as I said is Helios.¡± Isa and Lea shared a brief chuckle at their friendly banter, their skepticism easing slightly. Isa spoke up again, his tone less cautious. ¡°Alright, Helios. If you¡¯re looking for Yuffie then we last saw her grabbing a bite to eat at a restaurant about 30 minutes ago. Since you¡¯re not familiar with the area we¡¯ll guide you there.¡± Lea grinned mischievously. ¡°Yeah, so don¡¯t go causing any trouble, Helios by getting lost. We¡¯ve got enough on our plate already.¡± Helios returned their smiles, grateful that his plan to get close to the boys seemed to be working. ¡°I appreciate your help. And I¡¯ll do my best not to get lost and cause you all any trouble. I suppose this makes us friends.¡± Isa and Lea nodded in agreement, accepting Helios as their newfound friend. ¡°Yeah, friends it is,¡± Lea said with a playful smirk. As the trio set off together, guided by Isa and Lea, they made their way towards the restaurant where Yuffie was last seen. Helios felt that for the first time, things seemed to be going all according to plan without any mishaps. As they walked, Isa and Lea pointed out various landmarks and shared stories about their experiences in Radiant Garden. Helios listened attentively, absorbing every detail and committing them to memory. He knew that understanding the city¡¯s layout and history would be crucial in navigating its complexities and uncovering the information he required. During their conversation, Lea¡¯s mischievous nature shone through as he regaled them with humorous anecdotes, lightening the mood and easing the tension. Isa, on the other hand, provided a more grounded perspective, offering insights into the city¡¯s inner workings and the challenges they had faced due to Lea. The story has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation. As they reached the restaurant, Helios noticed Yuffie sitting at a table near the window, her black hair and headband unmistakable. He signaled to Isa and Lea, and they approached her together. Yuffie looked up, surprise evident on her face as she recognized her friends. ¡°Isa! Lea! What are you guys doing here?¡± Yuffie exclaimed, a mixture of joy and confusion in her voice. Lea grinned and playfully nudged Isa. ¡°Well, we heard someone was looking for you, and we couldn¡¯t resist tagging along.¡± Isa nodded, his voice sincere. ¡°We¡¯ve got a new friend who was looking for you. This is Helios.¡± Helios stepped forward, offering a warm smile. ¡°Nice to meet you, Miss Yuffie. I hope you don¡¯t mind us intruding. A Miss Aerith was worried looking for you frantically and so I asked them to help me find you to inform you.¡± Yuffie¡¯s surprise turned into a grateful smile as she extended her hand to shake Helios¡¯. ¡°Thanks for looking out for me, Helios. It¡¯s great to meet you too. And please, just call me Yuffie. Oh, Aerith too if you call Misss it makes us sound old.¡± Helios returned the handshake, relieved to have successfully delivered the message. ¡°Of course, Yuffie. I¡¯m glad we could find you. Aerith was really worried about you.¡± Lea chimed in, his mischievous grin widening. ¡°Yeah, you know how Aerith is. She¡¯s got a heart as big as the sky, always looking out for everyone.¡± Isa nodded in agreement. ¡°She¡¯s a good friend. We couldn¡¯t leave you hanging when we heard she was worried. Plus, it¡¯s always nice to have an excuse for an adventure. With an adventure every now and then this idiot here gets restless.¡± Yuffie chuckled, her playful spirit shining through. ¡°Well, I can¡¯t argue with that. It¡¯s never a dull moment when you two are around. Well anyway, thanks for letting me know. I better head out or I¡¯ll end up getting an earful from both Aerith and Squall.¡± Helios smiled, understanding Yuffie¡¯s need to avoid a scolding. ¡°I won¡¯t keep you then, Yuffie. Take care, and I¡¯m sure Aerith will be relieved to know you¡¯re safe.¡± Lea gave Yuffie a mock salute. ¡°Tell Squall we said hi and that we¡¯re still up for that rematch in the training room!¡± Yuffie laughed, her eyes twinkling mischievously. ¡°Oh, you¡¯re on! He won¡¯t know what hit him. See you guys later!¡± With a wave, Yuffie made her way out of the restaurant, leaving Helios, Isa, and Lea behind. Helios turned to his newfound friends, ¡°Thank you both for helping me. I appreciate it. It¡¯s starting to get dark out so I should also get back before I worry Merlin.¡± Isa shrugged nonchalantly. ¡°No problem. We¡¯re always up for an adventure, and it was good to meet you, Helios. Seems like we might be crossing paths more often.¡± Lea nodded, his grin never fading. ¡°Yeah, we make a good team. Don¡¯t be a stranger, Helios no in fact we¡¯ll pick you up tomorrow to hang out so you can¡¯t be a stranger. There¡¯s so much to do around here and it¡¯ll be fun hanging out.¡± Helios chuckled, at the sense of camaraderie he hadn¡¯t felt in a while. ¡°I¡¯ll keep that in mind. It was great meeting you both. I¡¯ll see you both tomorrow then.¡± After bidding farewell, Helios walked back to Merlin¡¯s house. As he tried to open the door it flew open and a man he recognized walked out. Cid¡¯s short hair is blond, albeit styled a bit differently and much brighter than his original incarnation¡¯s platinum blond hair. His eyes are blue and he has some stubble on his chin. Cid retained his iconic goggles and chewed on a toothpick. Chapter 25 Helios recognized Cid immediately as he walked out of the door. He had played the Kingdom Hearts game and was familiar with Cid¡¯s role as the gummi ship engineer. The man Cid would be responsible for building gummi ships that allowed Sora and the gang to travel through space to reach other worlds. However, since this was their first time meeting in person, Helios decided to act like a stranger and not reveal his prior knowledge. Helios approached Cid with a polite smile. ¡°Hello there! I¡¯m sorry, but I don¡¯t believe we¡¯ve met before. My name is Helios. I¡¯m new to this place and I currently live here.¡± Cid raised an eyebrow, eyeing Helios with a mixture of curiosity and skepticism. ¡°Huh, guess that explains why I¡¯ve never seen you around before, kid. I¡¯m Cid, resident scientist.¡± Helios nodded and smiled at Cid¡¯s bragging. Besides gummi ships, Cid was also versed with technology and computers a skill Helios lacked so befriending him would be useful. ¡°Wow, it¡¯s a pleasure to meet someone as great as you, sir. If you¡¯re looking for Merlin, he headed out this morning, and said he would be back until late in the night.¡± Cid¡¯s expression softened slightly as he listened to Helios. ¡°Merlin, huh? Yeah, he¡¯s always off doing his own thing. Can¡¯t say I¡¯m surprised. Well, thanks for the heads up, kid. I needed his help but I guess I¡¯ll just have to tinker around until he gets back.¡± Helios nodded understandingly. ¡°Well I¡¯m here and if you need any help with anything, I¡¯m pretty handy with tools and technology. I¡¯d be happy to assist you if you¡¯d like sir.¡± Cid¡¯s eyes narrowed, studying Helios intently. ¡°You¡¯ve got some skills, huh? Well, I could use an extra pair of hands around here. Alright, kid, show me what you¡¯ve got.¡± Cid told Helios to follow him as he walked toward the castle in the center of the town. This castle belonged to Ansem the Wise and it was where he and his apprentices conducted their experiments. Most importantly it was the current location of Xehanort. ¡®I think it¡¯s a bit early to head to the castle, but this is the best chance to create a reason for being able to enter the castle later in the future. I¡¯ll just do my best to avoid drawing too much attention to myself,¡¯ though Helios. When they arrived at the castle two men were guarding the entrance and blocked it with their weapons an axe and a spear. They wore grey uniforms with white cuffs and a red heart on the chest. There were blue hearts on the cuffs of both of their gloves. The man holding the axe had very angular and strong features, with a square chin, straight nose, and sharp cheekbones. He had blue eyes and somewhat small eyebrows. His hair was ginger and slicked back into messy spikes. The man holding the spear had hair that was black and worn in long dreadlocks. Most of his dreads were tied into a low ponytail, but one dangling over the right side of his face. He also had thick sideburns, thick eyebrows, and violet eyes. ¡°Hold, state your business,¡± said the man holding the axe. ¡°Really, Aeleus you see me every other day. Do ya gotta ask me this question every time?¡± asked an irritated Cid. This narrative has been unlawfully taken from Royal Road. If you see it on Amazon, please report it. ¡°State your business,¡± repeated the man named Aeleus. ¡°It¡¯ll go faster if you just do it,¡± said the other man holding the spear. ¡°Sure, Dilan I¡¯m here because your boss demanded me to come fix up a broken computer. This here is Helios he¡¯ll be assisting me today,¡± answered Cid. ¡°You may both pass. Do as Master Ansem asks and leave,¡± said Aeleus. ¡°Sure, whatever. Come on, kid,¡± Cid said, striding ahead. ¡°O¡oh yes, sorry. I¡¯m coming,¡± Helios replied, hurrying to catch up with Cid. For a moment, Helios had spaced out, looking at the real-life versions of Aeleus and Dilan who would later lose their hearts. They would become superior nobodies of the organization Lexaeus who had the epitaph of The Taciturn Stalwart and Xaldin who had the epitaph of The Whirlwind Lancer. As Helios followed Cid into the castle, he couldn¡¯t help but feel a mixture of awe and intrigue. The realization that he was standing before individuals who would later become key figures in the enigmatic Organization XIII made him feel something he couldn¡¯t explain. Inside the castle, Helios and Cid navigated through the corridors until they reached a spacious chamber filled with various machinery and equipment. In the center of the room stood a large computer console, its screen displaying complex diagrams and data. Next to the machine was a young man with dirty blond hair, that was long with two slightly shorter bangs that framed his face. He also had rather large, bright green eyes. He wore a long white lab coat, grey vest, white collared shirt, and a purple ascot. He also seemed to wearing black pants and silver-lined boots. ¡°Sup Even. So whatcha got for me this time?¡± asked Cid ¡°Ah yes. I suppose I should respond with a ¡®sup¡¯ too yes. Regardless the main computer seems to be having some problems, so Master Ansem requested that I call you.¡± said Even Helios observed the interaction, noting the professional and cordial atmosphere of the room. He stood by, ready to assist Cid with whatever was needed. Cid leaned over the computer console, examining the diagrams and data on the screen. ¡°Alright, let¡¯s take a look at this problem then,¡± he muttered to himself. Helios watched, intrigued by the intricate technology at play and Cid¡¯s skilled expertise. Even turned his attention to Helios. ¡°And who might you be young man? I¡¯m Even I suppose it¡¯s nice to meet you. I handle the technical aspects around here.¡± Helios nodded, extending his hand in a friendly gesture. ¡°Pleased to meet you too, Mr. Even. My name is Helios. I¡¯m here to assist Cid in any way I can.¡± Even shook Helios¡¯ hand with a smile. ¡°My what a polite young man. Let¡¯s see if we can get this computer back in working order.¡± As Cid and Even delved into the technical issues of the computer, Helios observed, absorbing as much as he could about their methods and troubleshooting process. It was a valuable learning experience, and he couldn¡¯t help but marvel at the advanced technology that Ansem and his apprentices had at their disposal. After a period of intense focus, Cid straightened up and grinned. ¡°There we go! Fixed it. Just needed a bit of tinkering.¡± Even chuckled, relieved. ¡°Excellent work, Cid. Your skills are as reliable as ever.¡± Cid waved it off with a grin. ¡°No big deal. Just doing what I do best.¡± Helios hadn¡¯t done much but hold what Cid told him to hold and type whatever Cid instructed. As they wrapped up, Cid turned to Helios. ¡°You¡¯re a handy one to have around. Thanks for the help, kid.¡± Helios smiled warmly. ¡°It was my pleasure. I like doing things like this so if you ever need help then I¡¯m always up for a challenge.¡± Evan chimed in, his curiosity was evident. ¡°You mentioned earlier that you¡¯re new to this place. Where are you from?¡± Helios pretended to hesitate for a moment, choosing his words carefully. ¡°I... don¡¯t remember much about my past. It¡¯s all a bit hazy. But I¡¯ve been staying with Merlin, trying to find my place.¡± Evan nodded understandingly. ¡°Well, we¡¯re a diverse bunch here, all with our own stories. You¡¯re welcome among us, Helios.¡± Cid clapped a hand on Helios¡¯ shoulder. ¡°Hey now, don¡¯t go poaching Merlin¡¯s little helper without his permission. Besides, if the kid¡¯s gonna join anybody it¡¯s gotta be me right kid?¡± Chapter 26 Helios chuckled, playing along with Cid¡¯s light-heartedness. ¡°Of course, Cid. Merlin might have found me first, but your work seems just as interesting. Besides, I¡¯m always up for learning more about technology and, well, just about anything in this world.¡± Even gave a brief nod, a small smile tugging at his lips. ¡°Curiosity is a powerful tool, young man. Proper guidance can lead to great things. But be mindful,¡± he added with a touch of gravity, ¡°curiosity can also lead you down paths from which there is no return.¡± Helios met Even¡¯s gaze, he almost couldn¡¯t stop himself from laughing due to his foreknowledge about Even doing just that. ¡°I understand, and I¡¯ll keep that in mind,¡± he replied, feigning innocence. Even who would become Vexen in the future a man obsessed with experiments and understanding till the day he was destroyed. Cid stretched and gave the machine a satisfied pat. ¡°Well, now that this thing¡¯s back in action, I say it¡¯s time to hit the road, kid. Let¡¯s get you back before Merlin starts sending out search parties.¡± As they turned to leave, Helios caught a glimpse of someone entering the room from the corner of his eye. It was Xehanort who had then over Terra¡¯s body, his white and yellow eyes signature reminder that he belonged to darkness. He wore the lab coat and composed expression he always carried, a mask hiding his dark intentions. Helios knew better than to stare, but although subtle and nearly non-existent he could feel the darkness that seemed to emanate from the man¡¯s presence, even from across the room. Xehanort acknowledged Cid with a brief nod before turning his attention to Even. ¡°Is the console operational now?¡± His voice was smooth, almost soothing, yet Helios only felt a chill up his spine. Even nodded. ¡°Yes, Xehanort. Cid and his new apprentice have restored it.¡± ¡°Good,¡± Xehanort replied, his eyes flicking briefly toward Helios, studying him with a curious intensity. The look was brief, yet sharp enough that Helios felt it pierce right through him. Helios forced himself to remain calm under Xehanort¡¯s scrutiny, giving a polite nod before looking away. Under the weight of Xehanort¡¯s Helios¡¯ mind began to wonder if this Xehanort had regained his memories as Master Xehanort yet or was his amnesia still in effect. ¡°Let¡¯s go, kid,¡± Cid muttered, nudging Helios toward the exit. Helios didn¡¯t need to be told twice. As they walked away from the castle, Cid glanced back, making sure they were out of earshot before he let out a sigh. ¡°That Xehanort¡¯s an odd one, isn¡¯t he? Gives me the creeps every time I¡¯m around him.¡± Helios feigned a casual shrug, though inside he agreed completely. ¡°Yeah, something about him seems¡ off,¡± he replied carefully. Cid nodded in agreement. ¡°You¡¯re not wrong there. Always talking about stuff way over everyone¡¯s head, and he¡¯s got a way of looking at people that makes your skin crawl. Like he¡¯s not really looking at the guy in front of him but a toy he can do with as he pleases.¡± He paused, glancing at Helios. ¡°Merlin¡¯s been looking out for you, right? So take my advice, kid. Keep your head low when you¡¯re near that one. Oh and don¡¯t head to the castle with me or Merlin tagging along.¡± ¡°I¡¯ll keep that in mind,¡± Helios responded, fully understanding the caution in Cid¡¯s voice. Back at Merlin¡¯s cottage, Helios took a moment to compose himself, letting the familiar comfort of the warm, book-filled space wash over him. Now calm he immediately began his magic practice until Merlin returned to the house. The flickering lights cast long shadows as Xehanort and Even descended into the cold, dimly lit corridors of the castle¡¯s underground section. Their footsteps echoed against the stone walls, accompanied only by the distant hum of machinery reverberating through the sealed-off tunnels. You might be reading a pirated copy. Look for the official release to support the author. As they walked, Xehanort¡¯s gaze turned inward, yet his tone was conversational. ¡°So, Even, what do you make of the boy? Helios, was it?¡± Even adjusted his lab coat, a casual gesture, though his mind was undoubtedly dissecting every detail of Helios. ¡°Interesting, certainly. Though, hardly surprising that he should bear such darkness. It¡¯s hardly unusual for those who appear here to carry remnants of the darkness that separate our worlds. You, too, remember, arrived in Radiant Garden much the same way,¡± Even noted, glancing briefly at Xehanort. ¡°Though, in your case, any remnants of darkness have long since been purged.¡± Xehanort offered a slight smile, one that never quite reached his eyes. ¡°Purged, you say?¡± Even didn¡¯t seem to notice the cryptic edge in Xehanort¡¯s tone. He continued, ¡°Indeed. And while the darkness in Helios is intriguing, there¡¯s little need to dwell on it. Cid would hardly allow me to study him, regardless. Besides, I doubt it would yield results we haven¡¯t already seen before.¡± Xehanort remained silent for a few paces, his gaze fixed ahead, but his mind clearly elsewhere. ¡°I could have sworn¡¡± he said, almost to himself, ¡°that the boy¡¯s darkness was different. It wasn¡¯t simply the residue of a troubled heart; it felt¡ alive.¡± Even raised an eyebrow, glancing at Xehanort with mild curiosity. ¡°Alive, you say?¡± he mused, though his tone held a hint of skepticism. ¡°I saw no such indication. Perhaps you mistook it. Darkness takes on strange forms in those newly arrived.¡± ¡°Perhaps,¡± Xehanort murmured, his voice thoughtful. But his expression suggested he remained unconvinced, the notion of ¡°alive¡± darkness simmering in his mind. They walked in silence, neither breaking the tension as they descended deeper into the labyrinthine passageways. Eventually, they reached a large, reinforced door, rusted around the edges from disuse and age. Even withdrew a small key from his coat and inserted it into a barely visible slot near the handle. With a low hiss, the door unlocked, and they stepped inside, sealing it carefully behind them. The room they entered was lined with strange devices, their designs alien and imposing, with monitors and control panels scattered about, coated in a fine layer of dust. The cold air was thick with a faint, almost metallic scent¡ªa ghost of past experiments. In the center of the room, glass chambers lined the walls, each large enough to hold a human subject, now empty and filled with an eerie silence. Xehanort moved slowly through the space, trailing his fingers along one of the glass chambers, his eyes distant. ¡°Do you remember when we first began?¡± he asked quietly, his tone almost reverent. Even nodded, eyes flicking between the monitors as he recalled those early days. ¡°I do. Back then, we were convinced of the noble cause¡ªto unlock the secrets of the human heart and discover the true nature of darkness and light.¡± He paused, almost smiling to himself. ¡°Yet, our master Ansem would have us halt it all. He fears what we might uncover, though I¡¯m certain we¡¯ve only just begun to glimpse the potential that lies within the heart.¡± ¡°Fear,¡± Xehanort repeated softly, as though tasting the word. He turned to face Even, a gleam of something dangerous in his eyes. ¡°He lacks the conviction necessary to see this through. To understand true darkness, we must be willing to go further than he ever imagined.¡± He gestured to the empty chambers surrounding them. ¡°These were meant for that purpose. To explore the heart¡¯s potential, to see how far one could push the boundaries between light and dark.¡± Even nodded slowly, his fingers skimming over a control panel, his own fascination stirring. ¡°You¡¯re right. Ansem¡ he limits himself by his own morals. He fears the potential he was so eager to tap into, and yet here we are, holding back at the cusp of something greater than he could ever comprehend.¡± Xehanort¡¯s gaze darkened, a flicker of disdain crossing his face. ¡°Indeed. His so-called morals are but chains. This hesitation, his reluctance¡ªit only serves to hinder progress. He told us to stop, to abandon our work, but as you know, Even¡ I have no intention of stopping.¡± Even offered a half-smile, caught between respect and the thrill of discovery. ¡°Nor do I, Xehanort. Our teacher lacks the necessary vision. But we¡, we can see beyond the limitations he sets. If he were to discover what lies within the heart without fear¡¡± He trailed off, glancing at Xehanort with a glint in his eye. ¡°We would be in possession of untold knowledge.¡± Xehanort¡¯s smile turned cold, a dangerous fire gleaming behind his gaze. He stepped back from the glass chamber, his eyes taking in the room with a sense of triumph. ¡°Precisely. The heart holds secrets yet to be revealed, an endless potential that has only begun to be tapped. And we shall be the ones to uncover it all, to wield it as it was meant to be.¡± Together, they stood in the center of the room, the silent apparatus around them bearing witness to their dark intentions. Even¡¯s hand hovered over the control panel, his eyes flicking to Xehanort. ¡°Shall we proceed, then? The experiments have only been paused. With your guidance, we can continue.¡± Xehanort nodded slowly, his smile never wavering. ¡°Yes. Our work here is far from over, Even. Let us delve deeper into the heart¡¯s mysteries. For it is only through the shadows that we shall find the light of true knowledge.¡± Chapter 27 As Xehanort¡¯s words echoed through the dimly lit chamber, he and Even turned their attention to the nearest console. Xehanort¡¯s fingers danced over the keys, entering commands that began a slow hum of machinery, lights blinking to life as if awakening from a deep slumber. The dormant equipment around them surged with latent energy, illuminating the eerie glow that bathed the room in shades of green and blue. Their shadows stretched ominously across the walls, like specters watching over their dark work. The two men worked in silence, occasionally exchanging knowing glances as they recalibrated machines and reviewed data that flickered across the monitors. They moved in sync, bound by a shared ambition that transcended ordinary scientific curiosity. For both Xehanort and Even, this was more than just experimentation¡ªit was an act of defiance against the constraints that Ansem the Wise had imposed. As the machinery¡¯s hum settled into a steady rhythm, Xehanort leaned back, his gaze fixed on the central chamber. ¡°We¡¯ll need a subject soon,¡± he said, almost to himself. ¡°We still haven¡¯t been able to replicate those creatures that consume hearts yet. We¡¯re missing something I just don¡¯t know what.¡± Even raised an eyebrow, his eyes narrowing thoughtfully. ¡°The townsfolk have grown wary, and with Ansem still overseeing his ¡®guardianship¡¯ of Radiant Garden, we cannot risk too much attention. However, if we were to proceed with someone new, someone without a clear past¡¡± Xehanort¡¯s eyes flashed. ¡°Helios,¡± he murmured, his voice laced with intrigue. Even looked surprised but thoughtful. ¡°He does carry a significant aura of darkness, yet he conceals it well. If his memories are truly lost, he might be more susceptible than others, open to influence like that young girl our master keeps within the castle.¡± Xehanort allowed a small smile. ¡°Yes, he could be our key to understanding the link between the heart and memory. With this data I could unlock my own memories.¡± Even hesitated, his rational mind flickering with a rare moment of caution. ¡°We must however tread carefully. Our teacher would not condone this path, and annoying man Merlin has taken charge of the boy.¡± Xehanort waved a dismissive hand, his expression resolute. ¡°Merlin is a mere nuisance; he lacks the vision necessary to see beyond he own narrow view. The heart holds much dormant potential, and it is our task to unearth it. We¡¯ll proceed carefully, but we must have the boy to continue.¡± Even inclined his head, his eyes gleaming with anticipation. ¡°Then I shall make preparations. I will invite Helios to visit the castle with Cid again.¡± Helios was jolted awake by the persistent knocking and muffled shouting at the door. Rubbing the sleep from his eyes, he stumbled out of bed, disoriented but curious. Who could be this eager to see him so early in the morning? Yawning, he reached for the door, and as he pulled it open, he found himself face-to-face with a grinning Lea and a rather sheepish-looking Isa. ¡°Morning, Helios!¡± Lea¡¯s excitement was palpable. ¡°We¡¯re here to keep our promise, remember? Hanging out, just like I said!¡± Isa sighed, offering Helios an apologetic smile. ¡°Sorry about this. Lea thought the best way to keep his word was by waking up the entire neighborhood.¡± Unauthorized usage: this narrative is on Amazon without the author''s consent. Report any sightings. ¡°Hey, I didn¡¯t wake up the whole neighborhood! Just you,¡± Lea countered, then looked at Helios with a guilty grin. ¡°Maybe just you and anyone within a three-house radius.¡± Helios stifled a yawn and waved a hand. ¡°No worries. Just give me a minute, and I¡¯ll be ready.¡± He gestured for them to come inside, and Lea bounced in eagerly while Isa followed with his usual calm demeanor. Leaving them in the front room, Helios disappeared into his bedroom to get dressed. He chose a black and white checkered dress shirt with short sleeves and slipped on a sleeveless white hoodie adorned with intricate black designs that formed the shape of a crown. After pulling on his well-worn blue jeans, frayed at the bottom from years of wear, he took a quick look in the mirror, satisfied with his outfit. When he stepped back into the room, Lea gave an approving whistle. ¡°Now, that¡¯s a good look, Helios! Way better than yesterday¡¯s,¡± he said with a grin. Isa scoffed, folding his arms with a smirk. ¡°And suddenly Lea¡¯s an expert on fashion. What¡¯s next? He¡¯s giving tips on fine art?¡± ¡°Oh, please,¡± Lea shot back, rolling his eyes. ¡°I¡¯m just saying he looks great!¡± Helios chuckled, stepping between them before their bickering got any further. ¡°All right, all right. Let¡¯s head out before you two start wrestling right here in the front room.¡± Once they were outside, Helios took a deep breath, savoring the cool morning air as the city began to wake up around them. ¡°So, what¡¯s the plan?¡± he asked, glancing between the two. Isa raised his hands in mock surrender, nodding toward Lea. ¡°Don¡¯t look at me. This was all Lea¡¯s idea. He¡¯s the one dragging us out here, so you¡¯re better off asking him.¡± Helios turned to Lea, who hesitated, rubbing the back of his neck as he searched for an answer. ¡°Well¡ I, uh¡¡± he started nervously, realizing he hadn¡¯t thought the day through as well as he¡¯d intended. ¡°I figured we could show you around, you know, just¡ hang out. You¡¯re new here, so there¡¯s plenty of stuff to see¡¡± Lea¡¯s nervous rambling was clear enough for Helios to piece together the real plan¡ªor lack thereof. He hid a smirk and nodded understandingly. ¡°Sounds like a great idea, Lea. But how about we start by grabbing some breakfast?¡± They arrived at the cozy diner where they¡¯d met Yuffie, and the owner greeted them with a friendly wave as they walked through the door. The warm smell of fresh pastries and brewing coffee filled the air, instantly making Helios realize just how hungry he was. As they slid into a booth by the window, Lea glanced at Helios. ¡°So, do you have any munny? Or, y¡¯know, a card?¡± he asked, a grin creeping onto his face. Helios tilted his head, slightly confused. ¡°A card? What do you mean?¡± Isa gave Lea a look before turning to Helios with a more serious tone. ¡°Right, I guess Merlin hasn¡¯t filled you in on the details. So here¡¯s how it works. Moogle shops are pretty much everywhere in the city now. They came up with this system¡ªa card that tracks how much munny you have. You can swipe it to buy things without having to carry munny everywhere. Now, most businesses here take it too.¡± ¡°Yeah,¡± Lea chimed in, leaning back and pretending to yawn. ¡°It¡¯s all very fascinating and super boring. But hey, since you don¡¯t have a card yet, looks like breakfast is on us today!¡± Helios felt a bit embarrassed. ¡°I¡¯m sorry about that. I don¡¯t usually head out much, so I didn¡¯t even know about this card thing¡¡± Isa shook his head, giving Helios a reassuring smile. ¡°It¡¯s no problem, really. You¡¯re new here, so it makes sense that you wouldn¡¯t know everything. Take it slow, figure things out as they come. There¡¯s no rush.¡± ¡°Exactly,¡± Lea added, slapping Helios on the back playfully. ¡°What are friends for if they can¡¯t spot each other breakfast once in a while?¡± Their orders arrived soon after, each plate loaded with fluffy pancakes, scrambled eggs, and sizzling strips of bacon. The three of them dug in, laughter and conversation flowing easily as they enjoyed their breakfast. Helios felt a surprising comfort with them¡ªa normalcy he hadn¡¯t experienced since the destruction of his town Nightfall and the death of his parents. As they polished off the last bites, Isa wiped his mouth with a napkin and nodded toward the door. ¡°Right. Now that we¡¯re fueled up, let¡¯s head over to the nearest Moogle shop and get you set up with that card.¡± Chapter 28 The morning sun shone brightly as Helios, Lea, and Isa left the diner, making their way through the winding streets of Radiant Garden. The city felt alive with people bustling about, greeting each other with friendly waves and smiles. To Helios, it was strange and refreshing to see people living peacefully, unbothered by dark threats that had become too familiar in his recent life. Radiant Garden¡¯s vibrant atmosphere was both uplifting and grounding. As they neared a small plaza, Lea pointed excitedly to a shop tucked between two larger buildings. Its sign, a glimmering emblem with a tiny Moogle face, sparkled in the sunlight. The little creature on the sign was the epitome of a Moogle, its white fur, small red pom-pom, and tiny wings making it seem almost comically cute. ¡°There it is! Moogle Central, the best place in town to set up your card and browse a bunch of random stuff you never knew you wanted!¡± Lea said with a grin, practically bouncing on his feet. Isa rolled his eyes but smiled. ¡°Lea¡¯s right¡ªonce you have a card, managing munny becomes easier. And don¡¯t let him fool you; he¡¯s only excited because he loves window shopping for things he can¡¯t afford.¡± Lea waved him off with a laugh. ¡°Hey, a guy¡¯s gotta have dreams, right?¡± They entered the shop, the warm, spicy scent of incense immediately filling the air. Rows of shelves lined with all sorts of trinkets, potions, and odds and ends filled the small space. Behind the counter stood a Moogle with a small pair of round glasses perched on its nose. It looked up and waved a tiny paw, greeting them in its squeaky voice. ¡°Kupo! Welcome to Moogle Central! How can I help you, kupo?¡± Helios approached the counter, feeling a bit out of place. ¡°Hi. I¡¯m new here and was hoping to set up a munny card?¡± The Moogle¡¯s eyes lit up. ¡°Oh, a new customer! You¡¯re in luck, kupo. We just updated our card designs! Follow me, kupo!¡± It flitted over to a side counter where several cards, each adorned with different symbols and colors, were displayed. Lea leaned in, pretending to look deeply interested. ¡°Oooh, pick the one with the cool flames on it! That¡¯s the one I¡¯d choose.¡± Isa nudged him with a smirk. ¡°You¡¯d pick it because it matches your red hair.¡± Helios stifled a laugh and instead focused on the cards. One design caught his eye: a sleek, black card embossed with silver constellations that shimmered when tilted in the light. It reminded him of the night sky he saw in Nightfall, and something about it felt¡ right. He pointed to it. ¡°I¡¯ll take this one,¡± he said with a slight smile. The Moogle beamed, picking up the card and handing it to him with a flourish. ¡°Excellent choice, kupo! Just hand over a few pieces of munny to load it up, and you¡¯ll be good to go!¡± Lea passed Helios a small pouch of munny, and Helios added the currency to his new card. With the transaction complete, he slipped the card into his pocket, feeling strangely satisfied. Stolen story; please report. As they exited the shop, Lea clapped Helios on the back. ¡°Now you¡¯re all set, ready to conquer Radiant Garden!¡± Isa nodded, his gaze thoughtful. ¡°Having a card might seem small, but it¡¯s one more step toward feeling like you belong here.¡± Helios looked at them, his eyes softening. ¡°Thank you, both of you. You¡¯ve made me feel¡ welcomed. And Lea don¡¯t worry I¡¯ll pay you back.¡± ¡°As for the money don¡¯t worry about it. Aw, shucks,¡± Lea replied, feigning bashfulness. ¡°Don¡¯t get all mushy on us.¡± The three of them walked through the town, Lea leading the way with enthusiasm, pointing out various landmarks and spots he claimed as ¡°hidden gems.¡± Isa would interject now and then, correcting some of Lea¡¯s more exaggerated tales and adding his own insights about the city. Helios felt his spirits lifting as they roamed through Radiant Garden, laughing and joking together. He hadn¡¯t laughed since the incident and he could feel his chest lighten slightly. As they approached the large fountain at the city center, a familiar figure caught Helios¡¯s eye. Standing at the fountain¡¯s edge, engrossed in a book, was Merlin. He looked up, as if sensing their presence, and waved them over. ¡°Ah, there you are, Helios!¡± Merlin¡¯s eyes twinkled behind his spectacles. ¡°And in good company, I see!¡± Lea puffed up with pride. ¡°Yup! We¡¯re showing him around, making sure he doesn¡¯t get lost.¡± Isa gave a more polite nod. ¡°We figured it¡¯d be good for him to see the city and meet a few people.¡± Merlin¡¯s smile widened as he closed his book. ¡°Excellent, excellent! It¡¯s important to find a sense of place, especially for one who is new. How has the morning treated you, Helios?¡± ¡°It¡¯s been great, thank you for asking Sir,¡± Helios replied, smiling. ¡°They¡¯ve shown me a lot, and I even got my munny card set up.¡± Merlin clapped his hands together. ¡°Splendid! Sorry for forgetting to get one for you. However, I¡¯m glad to see you settling in. However,¡± he said, his tone growing slightly more serious, ¡°I do need a moment of your time, Helios, if you don¡¯t mind?¡± Helios nodded, sensing the shift in Merlin¡¯s demeanor. He turned to Lea and Isa. ¡°Thank you for everything this morning. I¡¯ll catch up with you guys later?¡± Lea gave him a casual salute. ¡°You bet! We¡¯ll be around. If you need us, just holler. Got it memorized?¡± Isa nodded, giving Helios a slight wave. ¡°Yeah, I do. Take care.¡± As they walked off, Merlin gestured for Helios to sit with him on the edge of the fountain. The wizard looked thoughtful, as if considering his words carefully. After a moment, he spoke. ¡°Helios, I wanted to speak with you about your training. I¡¯ve sensed great magical potential within you, particularly when it comes to wielding healing magic. I¡¯ve noticed you¡¯ve made great strides in that but almost none with the wind. Focusing on it and pushing yourself too much will just slow your progress even more so I¡¯ll teach you another two spells.¡± Waving his hand, magic dust enveloped Helios, ¡°That was the essence of Esuna and Slow spells. Esuna works similarly to Cure except rather than heal wounds it heals conditions. Slow is a beginner time spell that does as its name states. Something doesn¡¯t feel right so I¡¯m teaching you this. If you see anything of note inform me right away. Oh, and Cid wanted me to inform you to come see him post haste.¡± With that said Merlin then stood up and walked away. As he turned the corner Helios felt a small ting of magic coming from that area most likely Merlin teleporting away. That was a spell he¡¯d really like to learn since dark corridors tend to be quite visually negatively looked upon. It¡¯d be best to have another mode of transport that allowed him to lay low. Getting up Helios stood up getting ready to head to Cid¡¯s place and then realized he didn¡¯t know where the man lived. Last time he met him outside Merlin¡¯s house. Merlin had forgotten to mention where he should go before leaving. With no idea on where to go the best thing would be to find Isa and Lea again and ask them to show him the way. The only problem was that they just left too and he had no idea where to start looking. As he was deep in his thoughts a voice disturbed his thing, ¡°Why hello there young man. It seems we met yet again. A curious touch of fate we find ourselves in.¡± Helios turned to find Even walking toward him. Chapter 29 Even¡¯s usual aloof expression was softened by a slight, almost courteous smile as he approached. Helios kept his composure, bowing his head slightly. ¡°Good day, Sir Even,¡± Helios said, his tone polite. ¡°I was actually just looking for some friends to help me find Cid¡¯s place. Merlin mentioned he wanted me to meet him, but¡ I¡¯m not sure where he lives.¡± Even chuckled softly, an oddly restrained sound. ¡°Cid doesn¡¯t exactly have a home address that he shares. He tends to set up his workspace wherever he sees fit. At the moment, he¡¯s commandeered a small workshop not far from the city¡¯s outskirts.¡± He tilted his head thoughtfully. ¡°I could guide you there myself. It¡¯s along the path I was headed on, in fact.¡± Though Helios hesitated, aware of the potential dangers of spending too much time alone with Even, he couldn¡¯t turn down such a straightforward offer. ¡°Thank you, Sir. I¡¯d appreciate that.¡± They walked side by side through Radiant Garden¡¯s winding paths, which grew quieter as they moved toward the city¡¯s edge. Even maintained a dignified pace, his steps measured and his eyes observing everything around them with a critical, calculating gaze. ¡°So, Helios,¡± Even started, his tone casual yet probing. ¡°Tell me, how are you finding Radiant Garden? Adjusting well, I hope?¡± Helios kept his response cautious, as always. ¡°It¡¯s a beautiful place. I¡¯ve been welcomed warmly, which has been¡ more than I expected.¡± Even nodded, his expression impassive. ¡°Radiant Garden is a beacon, in some ways,¡± he said, more to himself. ¡°A city brimming with light¡ even if it has its fair share of shadows.¡± They reached a cobbled path lined with modest homes and workshops, and Even motioned toward one of the largest buildings, its walls covered in ivy and its door slightly ajar. ¡°Cid should be inside,¡± Even said, gesturing toward the workshop. ¡°Please, go on in. I¡¯d love to stay and chat further, but I have my own duties to attend to.¡± Helios inclined his head in thanks. ¡°Thank you for your help, Sir Even.¡± With that, Even left, striding down the cobbled path with his usual air of detached curiosity. Helios watched him go, his mind racing. Even¡¯s veiled curiosity was almost unsettling¡ªthere was something more to his interest that Helios couldn¡¯t yet pinpoint. Shaking off the feeling, Helios pushed open the door to Cid¡¯s workshop. The space inside was cluttered but functional, a chaotic mix of tools, gears, and what Helios guessed were spare gummi ship parts scattered across the tables and shelves. Cid was hunched over a particularly complicated-looking device, his goggles pulled over his eyes as he squinted at a small, sparking wire. ¡°Hello, Sir Cid,¡± Helios greeted, making his way through the maze of machinery. Cid looked up, lifting his goggles with an exaggerated grin. ¡°Ah, there¡¯s my helper! Good, ¡¯cause I¡¯m gonna need all the extra hands I can get today. Also, drop the polite talk kid just call me Cid.¡± He motioned Helios over to a desk piled high with parts. ¡°See that over there? That¡¯s the start of a prototype engine I¡¯ve been workin¡¯ on for a new gummi ship model. Thought I could use a second set of hands to get it up and running.¡± Helios eyed the various bits and pieces, an array of metal components that looked both foreign and fascinating. Though he had little experience with machines, he¡¯d always been interested in learning. ¡°Sure, I¡¯d be happy to help. Where do you want me to start?¡± he asked. Cid handed him a small wrench and a handful of bolts. ¡°Here¡ªtake these. We¡¯re gonna start by attaching this cylinder to the main frame.¡± He gestured to a piece of equipment that looked like a turbine, its metal surface gleaming in the dim workshop light. The author''s tale has been misappropriated; report any instances of this story on Amazon. They worked in comfortable silence for a while, Cid giving Helios guidance as they went along. Though unfamiliar with the work, Helios found himself quickly adapting, his hands growing steady as he tightened bolts and secured parts. The occasional spark flickered between them as they assembled each piece, bringing the machinery to life. As they worked, Cid suddenly spoke up, his voice uncharacteristically subdued. ¡°So¡ word¡¯s gettin¡¯ around about you, kid.¡± Helios glanced at Cid, keeping his expression neutral. ¡°Oh? What sort of word?¡± ¡°Mostly folks just curious about the new face around here. But¡ Even¡¯s been asking questions,¡± Cid said, his voice laced with a hint of caution. ¡°He¡¯s the type who gets real interested in anything that¡¯s even a little out of the ordinary. Not a good thing to have that one¡¯s eye on you.¡± Helios tightened the bolt he was working on, considering Cid¡¯s words carefully. ¡°He did seem¡ curious when we spoke earlier.¡± Cid nodded, a grim line settling on his mouth. ¡°That he is. Even¡¯s a brilliant scientist, but he¡¯s got a mind that won¡¯t rest till it¡¯s poked and prodded at every mystery it finds. Just be careful around him. He doesn¡¯t always have people¡¯s best interests at heart, if you catch my drift.¡± Helios met Cid¡¯s gaze, feeling a surge of gratitude for the man¡¯s concern. ¡°Thanks for the warning, Cid. I¡¯ll keep that in mind.¡± They continued working, the rhythmic clang of metal and the hiss of machinery filling the room. After a while, Cid stepped back, admiring their progress with a proud nod. ¡°There we go! Not bad for a day¡¯s work,¡± he said, wiping his hands on a rag. ¡°With any luck, this baby¡¯ll be ready for a test run soon.¡± Helios grinned, feeling a sense of satisfaction from the day¡¯s work. ¡°I¡¯m looking forward to seeing it in action. So you never explained what a Gummi Ship is or what it does.¡± Althought Helios obviously knew what a Gummi Ship was he couldn¡¯t have Cid or anyone else wondering why he didn¡¯t need thing explained. Cid¡¯s eyes gleamed with excitement as he leaned back, clearly pleased to explain. ¡°Gummi Ships are somethin¡¯ special, kid. They¡¯re not just any regular ships¡ªthey¡¯re built from these rare, magical Gummi Blocks that let you fly between worlds. Yep, you heard right, between worlds. Apparently, Ansem the Wise got it from a friend, some explorer. He tried it, and it sent him someplace far off, but the thing is, he couldn¡¯t steer it. So he gave Ansem the Wise another piece so he came to me and asked if I could make the idea practical, something ya could actually pilot, and I thought¡ªwhy not make it into a proper ship? That way, you decide where you¡¯re going, not just get tossed around.¡± Helios leaned forward, playing the part of a curious newcomer. ¡°So once you get it working, people could really¡ visit other worlds?¡± ¡°Exactly,¡± Cid replied, nodding. ¡°Most folks here think all that exists is Radiant Garden. If they knew how vast things really were, they¡¯d probably be in shock. The Gummi Ship is our way to break those barriers. But let me tell ya, it¡¯s no simple feat. The energy alone to power somethin¡¯ like this is almost beyond what we have.¡± ¡°So how close are you to getting it functional?¡± Helios asked, keeping his tone casual, though the prospect of inter-world travel intrigued him. Cid chuckled, scratching his head. ¡°That¡¯s the thing, kid. We¡¯re close, but it¡¯s the fine-tuning that¡¯s tricky. Just need to make sure it doesn¡¯t shake apart mid-flight or crash into somethin¡¯ we¡¯d rather avoid. I tell ya, building a ship to travel the stars ain¡¯t no walk in the park.¡± Helios nodded, absorbing Cid¡¯s enthusiasm. He knew that when the time came, having access to a Gummi Ship might be crucial. Cid¡¯s project would be very crucial to the main story. When Xehanort starts crating the emblem heartless and Maleficent comes to tak over Leon¡¯s group piled in Cid¡¯s Gummi Ship and ran away to Traverse Town. But Cid¡¯s genuine excitement made Helios almost made him want to warn the guy and forget his larger mission for a moment. The rest of the afternoon passed with Cid explaining the technical aspects of Gummi Ships and their underlying mechanics, his knowledge vast and his passion unmistakable. Helios learned a lot, not just about the Gummi technology, but also about Cid¡¯s programming skills as he show him the coding he used with the ship and answered any question Helios had on the issue. When they finally wrapped up, Helios felt a deeper respect for Cid¡¯s work and a newfound appreciation for the man¡¯s dream of seeing worlds. Before his memories awakened as a kid he had wanted to travel through space. ¡°Alright, kid,¡± Cid said, clapping him on the back. ¡°Thanks for the help today. And remember, keep an eye out. If you¡¯re ever in need of a place to go, just swing on by here.¡± ¡°Will do, Cid,¡± Helios replied with a genuine smile. ¡°And I¡¯ll definitely want to see how the Gummi Ship turns out.¡± Chapter 30 As Helios left the workshop, he pondered on the connection he¡¯d begun forming with Cid. It was clear that Cid, while gruff and blunt, was one of the few people around who didn¡¯t try to pry into his past or question his motives¡ªan ally who was genuinely interested in his well-being like Isa and Lea. Walking through the familiar paths of Radiant Garden, Helios¡¯ thoughts were interrupted by Kurai¡¯s voice resonating in his mind. ¡°That scientist, Even¡ You were wise to be cautious. He reeks of heartless but the scent is somewhat different, a dangerous quality. I assume they¡¯re close to succeeding in making these Emblem Heartless as you call them. However r they must be missing something,¡± Kurai murmured, its voice an ethereal echo in his mind. Helios nodded inwardly. ¡°Well, it¡¯s been a long time since we chatted. What¡¯s the occasion? Although you haven¡¯t said much I¡¯m sure you¡¯re watching that we¡¯re getting closer, Kurai. Between Cid¡¯s Gummi Ship and the knowledge we¡¯re gathering, we¡¯ll be able to get what I need before things go south here.¡± Although no emotion radiated from Kurai¡¯s voice Helios figured it was pleased. ¡°I am only speaking to you because the wizard¡¯s gaze has moved from you. It seems he has other things to worry about. Just remember, Helios, that even small details matter. Throughout my existence, I learned that the smallest detail can unravel even the most well-thought-out plans. I¡¯d advise caution especially now when there is an unseen tension hovering about the city. Hmm, the wizard returned so we¡¯ll speak another time.¡± Approaching Merlin¡¯s cottage, he opened the door, and the room was filled with the comforting, almost tangible scent of old books and herbal tea. Merlin sat in his armchair, leafing through a thick tome, and looked up with a smile as Helios entered. ¡°Ah, there you are! You¡¯re back rather late,¡± Merlin said with a knowing twinkle in his eye. ¡°I trust your day with Cid was fruitful?¡± Helios nodded, a smile tugging at his lips. ¡°It was¡ surprisingly enlightening. He¡¯s working on some incredible things. I did have a bit of trouble finding his workshop.¡± Merlin chuckled. ¡°Yes, he is rather brilliant when it comes to his inventions. And he has a great respect and interest for the worlds beyond Radiant Garden.¡± He motioned for Helios to sit, his tone shifting to something slightly more serious. ¡°There is something I¡¯ve been meaning to discuss with you, Helios.¡± Curiosity piqued, Helios took a seat, giving the wizard his full attention. Merlin¡¯s expression softened as he rubbed his chin thoughtfully. ¡°Ah, First I should apologize. I never actually mentioned where Cid¡¯s workshop was located, did I?¡± Merlin chuckled, a touch embarrassed. ¡°I¡¯m terribly sorry, my boy.¡± Helios waved a hand dismissively, smiling. ¡°No worries, Sir Merlin. It was a bit of an adventure finding it, anyway. I enjoyed it.¡± As he turned to head to his room, Merlin cleared his throat, stopping Helios. ¡°Before you go, I should inform you¡ªI¡¯ll be away for a few days. It¡¯s a matter requiring my attention, so you¡¯ll have the cottage to yourself.¡± Helios nodded, managing to keep his expression neutral as he wondered if this was some test from Merlin. ¡°Of course, Sir Merlin. I¡¯ll keep everything in order, I promise.¡± Merlin beamed, clearly pleased. ¡°Splendid! You¡¯re quite the responsible young man, Helios. I have every confidence you¡¯ll be just fine. Just keep up the good behavior you¡¯ve shown so far.¡± ¡°Will do,¡± Helios said with a polite nod. As he headed to his room, he wondered if Merlin¡¯s absence would be an opportunity for him¡ªor if it was a trap meant to reveal something about him. Either way, he knew he¡¯d have to keep his actions measured. The following morning, Helios stretched as he got out of bed, feeling refreshed. Merlin had already left, the cottage eerily quiet in his absence. After breakfast, Helios stepped out, glancing around as he adjusted his jacket. He noted that Kurai was still silent, and he surmised that Merlin had somehow arranged a way to continue observing him even while away. He headed for Cid¡¯s workshop, but as he turned a corner, he nearly collided with Even. ¡°Well, we meet again, Helios,¡± Even greeted him, his eyes holding that same probing curiosity. Helios gave a polite nod, though he couldn¡¯t shake the discomfort he felt around the scientist. ¡°Good morning, Sir Even.¡± Find this and other great novels on the author''s preferred platform. Support original creators! Even smiled, falling into step beside him. ¡°It seems we¡¯re always heading in the same direction.¡± Helios noted the subtle but unmistakable intent in Even¡¯s gaze. ¡°Is there some special project going on nearby?¡± Even chuckled, a calculated glint in his eye. ¡°Ah, well, any such projects would be classified. Only Master Ansem himself and his pupils have access to certain facilities.¡± He paused, studying Helios with a thoughtful expression. ¡°But if you were interested, I could recommend you. Your curiosity and perspective seem well-suited for our work.¡± Helios shook his head politely. ¡°Thank you, but I don¡¯t think I have the necessary skills for that level of research. Besides, I¡¯m kept quite busy assisting Cid and Merlin.¡± Even raised an eyebrow, his chuckle soft yet amused. ¡°A pity. I feel you and I would find many of our philosophies quite aligned.¡± They reached Cid¡¯s workshop, and before Helios could excuse himself, a small boy approached them, wearing the same lab coat as Even. The boy¡¯s striking steel-gray hair and bright blue eyes caught Helios¡¯s attention. Even sighed, a hint of exasperation in his voice. ¡°Ienzo, I told you to wait in the lab. Why are you out here?¡± The boy, silent and seemingly unbothered, simply looked at Helios with an unblinking gaze. Even sighed, taking the boy¡¯s hand with a resigned expression. ¡°Well, we must be off now. Farewell, Helios.¡± As they left, Ienzo glanced back at Helios for a lingering moment before allowing himself to be led away. Helios couldn¡¯t help but wonder why the boy stared at him, knowing this child would grow into Zexion, one of Organization XIII¡¯s most manipulative members. Ienzo would grow to be as brilliant as he was cunning, and the thought of the child¡¯s potential was both intriguing and chilling. Putting the encounter out of his mind, he entered Cid¡¯s workshop. The instant he stepped inside, a loud explosion resounded through the space, and he was hit by a thick cloud of smoke and dust. ¡°Cid!¡± Helios called out, coughing as he tried to fan away the smoke. A hacking cough echoed from the far side of the room. ¡°Over here, kid! Just¡ don¡¯t breathe too deep!¡± Squinting through the haze, Helios finally spotted Cid, his face and hair dusted with soot but grinning as if nothing were amiss. ¡°What on earth happened?¡± Helios asked, his voice half-laughing, half-concerned. Cid coughed again, waving off the dust. ¡°Ah, just a minor setback. Tried to run some extra power through the Gummi Ship¡¯s engine, but, well¡ guess I gave it a little too much juice.¡± Helios couldn¡¯t help but laugh, though he kept it quiet, not wanting to make it too obvious. ¡°Maybe just a tad.¡± Cid chuckled as he took off his goggles and dusted himself off. ¡°Aye, well, trial and error, as they say! Anyway, you¡¯re just in time. I could use a hand reassembling a few things before the next test.¡± He handed Helios a wrench and gestured to a table cluttered with various tools and metal components. He then opened all the windows to air out the workshop. As they got to work, Cid showed Helios the adjustments he¡¯d planned for the engine. Helios listened carefully, impressed by the man¡¯s tenacity despite the setback. For the next hour, they worked side by side, with Cid occasionally explaining the mechanics in more detail. Helios found himself increasingly engrossed in the work, the intricacies of Gummi technology fascinating him. Once they¡¯d completed the repairs, Cid leaned back, giving the engine an appraising look. ¡°There we go. She¡¯s all set for another go.¡± Just as they were finishing up, the workshop door creaked open, and Lea and Isa peeked in, both raising eyebrows at the mess. ¡°Whoa, what happened in here?¡± Lea asked, stepping inside and surveying the sooty scene. Isa smirked. ¡°Looks like you two had a little too much fun with that engine. It is an engine right?¡± Cid laughed, not the least bit embarrassed. ¡°Yes, it¡¯s an engine. We¡¯re just doing a bit of testing! Science is all about experimentation, right?¡± Helios grinned, giving a nod to Lea and Isa. ¡°Glad you guys stopped by. Want to stick around for the next test?¡± Lea¡¯s eyes lit up. ¡°Are you kidding? Watching things blow up is half the fun!¡± Isa rolled his eyes, but he stayed by the door, his curiosity apparent. ¡°Let¡¯s just make sure we¡¯re at a safe distance.¡± Cid, looking unfazed, gave the engine one last once-over before starting the test. They all watched with a mix of anticipation and apprehension as the engine whirred to life. This time, it ran smoothly, emitting a low hum and a faint blue glow. The group let out a collective breath of relief. ¡°Looks like we got it right this time,¡± Cid said, a satisfied grin spreading across his face. Lea clapped Helios on the back. ¡°See, you¡¯re not just some new guy; you¡¯re practically an engineer already!¡± Helios chuckled, appreciating the praise. ¡°Couldn¡¯t have done it without Cid¡¯s guidance.¡± They spent the rest of the afternoon in the workshop, talking and joking around as they helped Cid fine-tune a few other components. It was a rare, simple pleasure¡ªone that Helios savored as he realized just how much he enjoyed this growing bond with his new friends. As the sun began to dip below the horizon, casting a warm glow over Radiant Garden, Cid set his tools aside and stretched. ¡°Alright, boys, time to wrap it up for today. Thanks for the help.¡± Lea, Isa, and Helios nodded, saying their goodbyes to Cid before stepping out of the workshop together. They walked through the quieting streets of Radiant Garden, their voices mingling with the sounds of the evening. Isa turned to Helios, his usual stoic expression softening. ¡°You¡¯ve been here only a short while, but it feels like you¡¯ve always been one of us.¡± Lea grinned, nodding in agreement. ¡°Yeah, it¡¯s like you just fit. Radiant Garden¡¯s got room for you, Helios. Got it memorized?¡± Helios felt a sadness spread through him¡ªa feeling he experienced when the darkness took everything from him. He looked at his friends, his voice filled with calm as he recalled the thing yet to happen here. ¡°Thanks, both of you. It means a lot. I wish you both all the best.¡± Lea and Isa exchanged confused glances, Lea furrowing his brow. ¡°What¡¯s with the serious tone, man? You¡¯re not going anywhere, right?¡± Helios smiled, forcing himself to shake off the sadness. ¡°Nah, I just¡ appreciate you guys, that¡¯s all.¡± Chapter 31 As Helios strolled through the quiet streets of Radiant Garden, the sun had dipped low, casting an orange-pink glow over the city. He was lost in thought about his recent encounters with Isa, Lea, and Cid, considering how his new bonds were slowly tying him to Radiant Garden, when something small and fast barreled into him. A soft gasp and a stumble, and he looked down to see a little girl sprawled on the ground, looking up at him with wide, teary eyes. The girl was young, with striking violet-blue eyes and dark red hair, the kind of hair that looked like fire in the waning light. She wore a simple white shirt with tiny blue flowers and a delicate pink skirt that swayed with every movement, complete with large, round shoes that seemed to swallow her small feet. She looked ready to cry, her lip trembling as she rubbed one scraped knee. Helios recognized her instantly. This was Kairi, one of the Princesses of Heart, the same girl who would one day be closely tied to Sora, the keyblade wielder whose journey would eventually intersect with Helios¡¯s own. Knowing how much of an impact she would have on future events, he knelt down beside her, extending his hand in a comforting gesture. ¡°Hey there, are you okay?¡± he asked gently. Kairi sniffled, looking up at him with watery eyes before nodding, though her voice wavered as she answered. ¡°Y-Yeah. I¡¯m okay¡ I just wasn¡¯t looking where I was going.¡± Helios offered her a reassuring smile, taking her hand and helping her to her feet. ¡°That¡¯s alright. You just have to be careful, or you might end up hurting yourself.¡± He brushed a few specks of dust from her apron. ¡°Are you lost? Do you need help getting home?¡± Kairi shook her head, wiping her eyes with the back of her hand. ¡°No, I know where home is,¡± she said softly, her small voice sounding both determined and shy. ¡°Well, that¡¯s good to hear,¡± Helios replied, his tone light. ¡°Just be careful on your way, alright? It¡¯ll be dark soon.¡± Kairi gave him a grateful smile and nodded. ¡°Thank you, mister.¡± She started to turn, then hesitated, looking back. ¡°Um, sorry again for bumping into you!¡± With that, she started running again, this time more cautiously, her little feet pattering against the stone path. Helios couldn¡¯t help but smile as he watched her, and when she looked back once more, he raised a hand, reminding her with a grin, ¡°Watch your step!¡± Once Kairi disappeared around the corner, Helios continued his walk back toward Merlin¡¯s cottage, but Kurai¡¯s voice sounded in his mind almost instantly, its tone tinged with mild reproach. ¡°You simply let her go?¡± Kurai inquired, a touch of disappointment evident. ¡°That girl is a Princess of Heart. Why not make a stronger connection to the girl of light? It could be¡ advantageous.¡± Helios shook his head slightly. ¡°Kairi might be important, but she¡¯s pretty useless until the endgame. There¡¯s nothing to be gained from her right now. Besides, a connection to her Nobody, Namin¨¦, would be more useful in the long run. Besides, Kairi¡¯s just a kid. I¡¯ll gain nothing by cozying up to her now.¡± Kurai hummed thoughtfully, though there was a note of quiet approval in its silence. As Helios resumed his walk, he mulled over the fact that Kurai was talking to him this meant he was free to act. It was a rare opportunity, and it gave him the chance he needed to make his move. He stopped a few blocks just short of the cottage and glanced around to ensure no one was near, then opened a Dark Corridor, stepping through its swirling darkness and arriving instantly at the very laboratory where he and Cid had recently repaired the computer console. The room was dimly lit, with only the soft hum of machinery to break the silence. The computer console loomed before him, its screens dark and waiting. Helios moved swiftly, searching for any blank drives or storage devices. His eyes fell on a sleek, unused hard drive on a nearby shelf¡ªperfect for what he needed. He quickly connected it to the computer. The screen flickered to life, prompting him for a password. Helios smirked, typing in the password he knew well: the names of the seven Princesses of Heart, carefully entered in a specific order. It worked, and he was granted full access to the system. If you encounter this story on Amazon, note that it''s taken without permission from the author. Report it. His fingers flew across the keyboard, locating and initiating the download of the program he sought: Space Paranoids. Originally designed as an operating system created by ENCOM and adapted by Ansem the Wise, Space Paranoids was used to store vital data for Radiant Garden¡¯s maintenance as well as Ansem and his pupil¡¯s personal research. But it was much more than just a system¡ªwithin it, Helios knew, lay the means to access all of Ansem and Xehanort¡¯s most sensitive research, including data on the creation of Emblem Heartless and other secrets stored within this digital world. As the files transferred, he looked around, ensuring that he remained undetected. With the hard drive slowly filling with data, he knew he¡¯d be standing here for a while, vulnerable to being discovered. He held his breath every time a distant sound echoed down the corridors, his mind sharp and senses heightened. After nearly an hour, the final file was copied, and the transfer was complete. Helios immediately disconnected the hard drive, checking it briefly to ensure the files were intact before accessing the computer¡¯s security systems. He brought up the footage from the lab¡¯s security cameras and meticulously deleted every frame that showed him, making sure his presence remained a secret. Satisfied, he powered down the console, restored everything to its original state, and teleported back to the spot he had been before entering the Dark Corridor. As he walked away from the scene, feeling a surge of satisfaction at his successful infiltration, Kurai¡¯s voice sounded again, brimming with curiosity. ¡°What exactly did you take from that place, Helios?¡± Helios glanced around, still alert despite the success of his mission. ¡°A program, and some rather interesting research data. Space Paranoids holds more than just maintenance information¡ªit¡¯s a record of Ansem¡¯s research, the same research that eventually led to the creation of Heartless. That data alone will be invaluable.¡± Kurai¡¯s voice was silent for a moment, then it spoke again, intrigued. ¡°And what purpose does that serve in your plans?¡± Helios smirked, enjoying the opportunity to explain his foresight. ¡°It¡¯s a part of the bigger picture, Kurai. If I can understand how Emblem Heartless are created and use that knowledge, I¡¯ll have more control over the darkness when the time comes. Besides, having Ansem¡¯s research is a major advantage. No one else will have access to what I now possess for quite a while.¡± Kurai hummed with approval. ¡°Ah, a calculated move indeed. Information is always an asset that could prove quite useful in the days to come.¡± As Helios approached Merlin¡¯s cottage, he took a steadying breath, shifting his expression to one of casual calm. He couldn¡¯t afford to raise suspicion if there were any lingering wards or spells that might detect his dark magic. Satisfied with his facade, he entered the cottage and settled down at Merlin¡¯s computer to review the data he¡¯d stolen. It was funny that a wizard had such a thing but he did; most likely Cid installed it despite his reluctance. Over the next few hours, Helios meticulously combed through the files on the hard drive, organizing and skimming through the vast database Ansem had compiled. It contained everything from blueprints for various machines to formulas and logs, the latter detailing each experiment with unsettling precision. Some of the entries hinted at Xehanort¡¯s hand in certain experiments, and though Helios already knew what this research would lead to, seeing it documented in such clinical detail made it all the more real. ¡°Fascinating, isn¡¯t it?¡± Kurai¡¯s voice murmured, its tone sharp with intrigue. ¡°This Ansem¡¯s work is quite ambitious, bordering on the monstrous to his fellow man. Yet he and his apprentices plow forward with little regard for the consequences especially since they¡¯re being manipulated by this Xehanort person. Once they succeed their creation will be a beacon drawing the darkness here.¡± Helios nodded, acknowledging Kurai¡¯s point. ¡°Power and knowledge often blind people to the cost of their actions. But that same blindness can be useful to us. If we play this right, this information will give us an edge.¡± Helios¡¯s gaze drifted to a particular file labeled ¡°Project Grid.¡± He knew it was the bridge to the digital world Ansem had copied and altered, a world that held its own dangers and opportunities. However, accessing it would require specialized equipment that was located in the castle¡¯s deeper laboratories. ¡°Once I can build those machines, we¡¯ll have the means to enter Space Paranoids itself. A virtual space in which I can alter the programming as I please; it might be useful as a headquarters,¡± he mused aloud. Kurai responded, its voice smooth. ¡°Indeed. A digital world would be quite a fortress in which most wouldn¡¯t be able to access.¡± Helios shut the hard drive down and tucked it safely into a hidden compartment beneath a floorboard in his room, a precaution he deemed necessary. His gaze shifted out the window, where the night had fully taken hold of Radiant Garden. With Merlin gone, he had managed to take another critical step forward in his plan. He would need to start earning some money to buy something like a chest in which he could place the hard drive in. While it was somewhat hidden he would feel safe until he placed it inside a chest and locked it with the keyblade. Doing so would seal it away until opened by another keyblade. He leaned back, closing his eyes briefly to gather his thoughts. Each piece was falling into place, yet he remained mindful of the dangers. Chapter 32 The night was quiet as Helios leaned back in his chair. His mind wandered to the vast possibilities: accessing Space Paranoids, modifying the digital environment, and, if needed, building a place hidden from both light and darkness. Somewhere he could store plans, resources, and anything else he might need. For now, though, he had to be cautious, especially since Merlin could return without warning. He would find a chest soon enough, but for now, concealing the hard drive beneath the floorboards would suffice. Once he locked it away, he considered hiding it in the World of Darkness until he was ready to retrieve it. However, upon further thinking all the landmasses collapsed and decayed so he wasn¡¯t sure if it wouldn¡¯t affect the drive. After a final glance out the window, Helios got up, closing the curtains with care. The peaceful exterior of Radiant Garden was a stark contrast to the view he used to see in Nightfall. As Helios lay down to sleep, Kurai¡¯s voice echoed in his mind, its tone laced with thinly veiled impatience. ¡°So¡ now that you have the hard drive and the data you wanted, we¡¯ll be leaving this annoyingly bright world soon, yes?¡± Helios didn¡¯t answer right away, staring at the ceiling as he mulled over his thoughts. ¡°No. Not yet,¡± he replied finally. Kurai paused, as if surprised. ¡°Oh? And why not?¡± ¡°Because my mastery of magic is still incomplete,¡± Helios explained. ¡°And I¡¯ve only just started grasping programming and Gummi Ship engineering. If I leave now, I¡¯ll lose access to the resources I need to fully develop those skills.¡± There was a silence from Kurai, as if it were weighing his words. Finally, it spoke, a hint of mockery creeping into its tone. ¡°Tell me, Helios¡ is your reluctance to leave truly because of skill-building? Or perhaps,¡± it paused, savoring the moment, ¡°have you formed¡ bonds with the people here?¡± Helios stiffened, caught off guard by the remark. He felt his jaw tighten, but he said nothing, letting the silence stretch. Kurai¡¯s voice took on a cold, condescending edge. ¡°This is amusing,¡± it murmured, its tone chillingly detached. ¡°If I had the capacity to laugh, I might do so. You, the boy who abandoned his own parents so that you may live, now entertaining the idea of attachments? With these trivial, useless people? You are a being who belongs on the side of darkness so why form an attachment with those who will undoubtedly become your enemies in the future.¡± Helios¡¯s hand tightened into a fist as he lay there, his gaze hardening as he stared into the darkened ceiling. He felt a flicker of anger at Kurai¡¯s words, but he kept his voice steady. ¡°And yet, here we are, Kurai. Whether you like it or not, we need this world. Attachments or not, the skills I can learn here will serve our purpose when the time comes.¡± Kurai gave a low hum, its presence cold and dark within his mind. ¡°Then let us hope your attachments do not become our undoing. Hearts are fragile things, after all. You may think you¡¯re simply biding your time, but the heart has ways of creeping up on even the most guarded. I will be watching and if I deem your actions to be at my detriment then this little friendship or partnership we have shall end. Am I understood?¡± Helios let the silence answer Kurai. He could feel Kurai retreat, its presence becoming a faint whisper in the recesses of his mind, though he could sense its lingering dissatisfaction. Closing his eyes, Helios forced himself to drift off, his thoughts fractured between the mission he¡¯d set himself on and the companions he¡¯d found unexpectedly valuable. As Helios lay there in the dark, he wrestled with Kurai¡¯s words. They gnawed at him, stirring a tension he couldn¡¯t quite shake. He wanted to believe he was above attachments, that every connection he made in Radiant Garden was merely a part of his plan. But the faces of Isa, Lea, and even Cid came to mind unbidden. Their genuine friendship had offered him something he hadn¡¯t expected: the simple comfort of camaraderie. For so long, he¡¯d only known solitude and survival, never trusting, never letting himself depend on anyone especaiily his dark accquitence Kurai. If you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen from Royal Road. Please report it. ¡®But isn¡¯t that exactly how darkness seeps in?¡¯ Kurai¡¯s words echoed in his mind, but he brushed them aside with an iron resolve. Tomorrow, he¡¯d go back to training. His time here wasn¡¯t indefinite¡ªhe had goals to achieve. And the small comforts he found here should not dissuade him from his ultimate goal of bring back his parents. Sleep, however, came reluctantly, and he drifted in and out of strange dreams. He saw flickering images of his home, Nightfall, cast in shadow and engulfed in darkness. He could see his parents¡¯ faces, blurry and distant, reaching out toward him in pain before vanishing into the dark mist. Then, the scene shifted, and he was in Radiant Garden, the comforting glow of the marketplace and laughter of his friends somehow feeling like a distant memory, slipping further away each time he tried to hold on. Helios awoke in cold sweat to the faint light of dawn seeping through the curtains, feeling an unexplainable ache that settled heavily on his chest. Shaking it off, he forced himself to focus. By mid-morning, Helios was at the city outskirts, practicing his spells, each cast of Cure and Aero sharper, faster than the day before. He poured himself into the movements, repeating each spell until he could cast it instinctively. Afterward, he worked on the Esuna and Slow spell Merlin had passed onto him. With every flick of his wrist and surge of energy, he imagined himself closer to his goal. He had nearly exhausted himself when he sensed a figure approaching from behind. ¡°Well, look who¡¯s been busy. Haven¡¯t seen you for almost a full 24 hours,¡± came a voice. Helios turned to find Lea and Isa standing there, looking at him with raised eyebrows. ¡°Sorry about always bailing out on you guys. It¡¯s just that Merlin has been teaching me a lot of things and he wants me to get them down before¡¡± Helios replied, a hint of a smirk breaking through his exhaustion. ¡°Before what?¡± asked a concerned Isa ¡°Oh nothing,¡± said Helios trying to smooth things over. ¡°Oh come on friends don¡¯t keep secrets from each other. Now spill it!¡± said Lea as he put his arm around Helios¡¯ neck. ¡°Alright cool it, man. Merlin said that things were about to get hectic so I should keep my eyes out for anything strange and tell him if I see something,¡± said Helios as he freed himself from Lea¡¯s grasp. Isa¡¯s expression grew serious. ¡°Hectic? What exactly did he mean by that?¡± Helios shrugged, keeping his voice calm. ¡°He didn¡¯t specify much¡ªjust told me that some things were brewing under the surface. Apparently, he¡¯s worried there might be changes coming to Radiant Garden. He asked me to keep a low profile and stay vigilant.¡± Lea¡¯s brows knitted together in curiosity. ¡°Changes, huh? Sounds¡ ominous. But hey, with us around, you¡¯ve got nothing to worry about!¡± he added, his usual grin returning. Helios managed a small smile, but his mind was elsewhere, the weight of Kurai¡¯s words and the strange ache from his dream lingering in the back of his thoughts. Isa glanced around, his sharp gaze sweeping over the area as if he might spot something hidden. ¡°If Merlin thinks something is going on, it¡¯s best we all stay on guard.¡± He looked at Helios, concern hidden behind his usual composed demeanor. ¡°I¡¯ll admit, I¡¯m not used to dealing with this kind of thing, but if you ever need backup, we¡¯re here.¡± Lea gave Isa a playful shove, laughing. ¡°Oh, come on, Mr. Serious, it¡¯s not like the place is crawling with any bad guys. Radiant Garden¡¯s about as safe as they come.¡± But Isa¡¯s caution lingered. ¡°Perhaps. Still, being cautious and prepared never hurts.¡± Helios appreciated their support, though he knew the real dangers would likely surpass anything Isa or Lea could imagine. ¡°Thanks, both of you. I feel better knowing you¡¯re around. But really, don¡¯t worry too much. If anything does happen, I can take care of myself.¡± They stood together in the quiet outskirts for a while, the morning sun casting a warm glow over the city. As they turned to head back, Lea punched Helios lightly on the shoulder. ¡°You know,¡± Lea began, a hint of mischief in his eyes, ¡°you could have invited us to your magic training. I¡¯ve always wanted to see those fancy spells up close!¡± Isa scoffed, shaking his head. ¡°Yes, because you¡¯d totally pay attention and not turn it into a joke.¡± Lea shrugged, grinning. ¡°What can I say? Maybe I¡¯d learn something. And hey, it wouldn¡¯t hurt to have some extra magic tricks up my sleeve.¡± Helios smirked. ¡°I don¡¯t know, Lea. You might blow yourself up before casting a single spell.¡± Lea¡¯s laughter echoed through the air, infectious as ever. ¡°Hey, I¡¯m tougher than I look! Get it memorized!¡± Isa rolled his eyes, but a faint smile tugged at the corners of his mouth. ¡°Maybe you¡¯ll have your chance someday, Lea. Just¡ try not to get too carried away.¡± Helios chuckled and said, ¡°No it¡¯s okay. I only know a few spells but I can teach one each. Think of it as thanks for sharing my worries with me. Oh, and before you ask Lea I¡¯ll teach you a fire spell and Isa and wind one.¡± Chapter 33 Lea¡¯s eyes lit up with excitement, and he grinned from ear to ear. ¡°A fire spell? Yes! Finally, something cool I can brag about!¡± Isa¡¯s expression was more subdued, but Helios could see a glimmer of interest in his eyes. ¡°Wind, huh?¡± he murmured, as if testing the idea out in his mind. ¡°That could be useful. Thank you, Helios.¡± They found a quiet spot on the outskirts of the city, where they wouldn¡¯t draw too much attention. After passing channeling magic into the two allowing them to grasp the essence of the element. Helios then instructed them to stand a few paces apart, emphasizing the need for caution. ¡°Alright, let¡¯s start simple,¡± he began, turning to Lea first. ¡°Fire spells are volatile, so you need control, and focus on the heat inside you. Imagine it as a spark that you¡¯re shaping into a flame.¡± Lea looked at Helios, clearly ready to try. ¡°Alright, I¡¯ve got this.¡± He held out his hands, concentrating hard, though his expression quickly shifted from determination to mild frustration as nothing happened. Isa raised an eyebrow. ¡°Maybe you need more than just enthusiasm, Lea.¡± Lea shot him a playful glare. ¡°I¡¯m just warming up, okay?¡± Helios chuckled, then demonstrated a basic Fire spell, conjuring a small, controlled flame in his hand. ¡°Like this,¡± he said, letting the flame flicker before extinguishing it. ¡°Keep it small and steady to start. You¡¯ll work up to bigger ones later.¡± This was the first time he used a fire spell without relying on darkness but he found that he could easily do so by simply removing the darkness from his Dark Firaga. Lea watched closely, his brow furrowed in concentration. This time, he seemed more centered, and after a moment, a tiny spark appeared at the tips of his fingers, flickering into a small flame. It wobbled uncertainly but held. Lea¡¯s face broke into a grin as he looked at the small flame he¡¯d conjured. ¡°Hey! Look at that¡ªI did it! Did you see that Isa? Memorized my greatness.¡± Helios nodded approvingly. ¡°Not bad for a first try. Seems you have an affinity for fire spells. Now keep practicing, and remember: don¡¯t let the flame get too big until you¡¯re ready. I¡¯m serious I can¡¯t have you burning down anything.¡± Isa chuckled softly, a hint of pride in his expression. ¡°Looks like there might be a fire caster in the making after all. Or maybe an arsonist. So rather than greatness it might be more infamy.¡± Lea¡¯s grin only grew wider as he extinguished the flame, looking at Isa with a teasing glint in his eye. ¡°Haha real funny. Now let¡¯s see if you¡¯re as impressive with wind!¡± Helios turned to Isa, demonstrating a basic Aero spell, a gentle but controlled gust swirling around his hand. ¡°For wind, it¡¯s all about feeling the movement in the air around you. Imagine the wind wrapping around your fingers like threads and let it flow.¡± Isa closed his eyes, breathing in deeply, and Helios could see him focusing, as if he was feeling the air shift in response to his intent. After a moment, a light breeze stirred around Isa, gentle but distinct. He opened his eyes, the faintest hint of satisfaction on his face. A case of theft: this story is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation. ¡°Good,¡± Helios said, impressed by Isa¡¯s composure and control. ¡°That¡¯s the right way to start. Your affinity for wind is impressive, even I couldn¡¯t master it so quickly. With practice, you¡¯ll be able to shape it into a barrier or even a small vortex.¡± Isa nodded, his gaze thoughtful. ¡°Thanks, Helios. I¡¯ll make good use of it.¡± The three of them spent the next hour practicing, laughter and banter filling the air as Lea experimented with his flame, nearly singeing his sleeve at one point, while Isa steadily strengthened his command over the wind. Watching them, Helios looked on with anticipation, he hated using these kids but like Kurai said he had something he wanted and he needed to focus. Finally, as the sun dipped lower in the sky, casting a golden hue over the city, they decided to wrap up. ¡°That was amazing!¡± Lea exclaimed, practically bouncing on his feet. ¡°Thanks, Helios. You¡¯ll be seeing more of these moves soon enough.¡± Helios smirked, feeling a sense of pride in their progress. ¡°Just keep practicing, and don¡¯t push yourselves too hard. You don¡¯t want Merlin catching on that I¡¯m sharing his lessons.¡± Isa nodded, giving him a genuine smile. ¡°You¡¯ve given us something valuable, Helios. Thank you.¡± They parted ways for the evening, each promising to practice and meet again soon. As Helios made his way back to Merlin¡¯s cottage, Kurai¡¯s voice echoed softly in his mind, observing with a tone that was half-amused, half-critical. ¡°You¡¯re playing with fire, Helios. Quite literally,¡± it murmured. ¡°So why did you teach them? Did you¡ remember that they may cost you dearly in the future. Attachment can weaken even the strongest hearts.¡± Helios¡¯s face hardened, though he kept his inner voice calm. ¡°I haven¡¯t forgotten. But these skills¡ªthey serve a purpose, Kurai. Just like everything else.¡± Kurai¡¯s response was a dark, approving chuckle. ¡°Sure as you say. Just don¡¯t forget I¡¯m watching.¡± Afterward, Helios decided to head over to Cid¡¯s workshop. The sun was setting as he arrived, casting long shadows over the quiet streets. When he entered, he noticed immediately that Cid wasn¡¯t there¡ªbut his computer was still on, its screen displaying an intricate blueprint. Helios raised an eyebrow as he took a closer look, recognizing the Gummi Ship design on the screen. It was the Highwind, the ship that Sora would one day use, but as Helios examined the details, he noticed several components out of place. The ship, as it was, wouldn¡¯t handle well in open space, nor would it have the resilience it would need. Sighing, Helios took a seat, his fingers moving over the keyboard as he adjusted the design. He sketched out structural improvements, modifying the ship¡¯s thrusters for better stability and adjusting the shield components to reinforce its durability. Piece by piece, the Highwind took on the appearance he remembered from his memories, the version that would withstand the trials of inter-world travel. He became so engrossed in his work that he didn¡¯t notice the sound of footsteps behind him. Cid had returned and was standing quietly in the doorway, watching Helios work with a curious, appraising expression. When Helios finally leaned back and stretched, satisfied with his adjustments, he nearly jumped at the sound of Cid¡¯s voice. ¡°Well, kid, I gotta say,¡± Cid drawled, walking into the room, ¡°that¡¯s some mighty fine work. I like the design.¡± Helios tried to keep his surprise from showing, giving a casual shrug. ¡°Oh, hey, Cid. Sorry, I didn¡¯t mean to mess with your plans. I just¡ noticed a few adjustments that might make the ship stronger and easier to handle.¡± Cid grinned, crossing his arms as he examined the blueprint more closely. ¡°You call those a few adjustments? Kid, you just overhauled the entire design. And, I¡¯ll admit, it looks damn near perfect.¡± He gave Helios a playful nudge. ¡°If I didn¡¯t know better, I¡¯d say you¡¯ve done this kind of thing before.¡± Helios laughed it off, saying, ¡°Beginner¡¯s luck, I guess.¡± But he felt a sense of satisfaction as he watched Cid¡¯s approval. ¡°Well,¡± Cid said, still grinning, ¡°if this is what you do as a beginner, I can¡¯t wait to see what you come up with when you¡¯re a pro. Heck, you¡¯re practically a Gummi engineer already.¡± Helios chuckled, but deep down, he knew that his knowledge of this ship and the future it held had guided him. Chapter 34 ¡°Alright, kid,¡± Cid said, giving him a playful nudge. ¡°I gotta admit, you¡¯ve got quite the eye for this stuff. How ¡¯bout you come up with a design of your own? Let¡¯s see what you can do from scratch.¡± Helios blinked, caught off guard. ¡°What? No, no¡ªI just made some tweaks to your design. It¡¯s only because your blueprint was so solid that I could even manage that.¡± Cid burst out laughing, shaking his head. ¡°Now, don¡¯t go butterin¡¯ me up, kid. Flattery¡¯ll get ya nowhere.¡± He leaned over, tapping a few keys on the console and opening a fresh design program, the blank interface flickering to life. ¡°Go on. Go a little crazy with it. Show me what you¡¯re made of!¡± Helios felt the faintest sense of apprehension. He hadn¡¯t exactly planned on going this far with ship design¡ªhe¡¯d only meant to help a bit and keep up his cover. But seeing the genuine excitement in Cid¡¯s eyes, he realized he couldn¡¯t back out now. With a small nod, he took a seat and let his fingers glide over the controls. As he worked, ideas began to flow, fueled by both instinct and the thrill of creating something new. He hadn¡¯t expected to enjoy designing so much, but he quickly lost himself in the process. Shapes and configurations started to take form as he sculpted the ship in his mind, and bit by bit, a unique Gummi Ship began to emerge. The ship took on a sleek, futuristic design with deep white, black, and blue tones¡ªhis favorite colors. He liked the contrast between the dark body and metallic blue highlights, which gave the ship a crisp, dynamic appearance. The cockpit was spacious, with room for four passengers and a transparent canopy offering a full view of space, a decision inspired by memories of stargazing in Nightfall. As he continued, Helios added aerodynamic wings, extending them from either side and accenting them with metallic blue edges. Twin engines nestled into the rear of the fuselage promised stability and impressive speed, while maintaining a certain elegance in their streamlined design. But he didn¡¯t stop there. He wanted the ship to have defensive capabilities, so he embedded small turrets and rockets along the sides and under the wings, each positioned to stay low-profile until needed. The final touch was a unique shield mechanism¡ªa layered energy field that could protect against both physical and magical attacks. And to top it all off, he incorporated a warp drive that could allow it to jump between star systems with ease. He felt like a key element, something that would set this ship apart and make it a formidable presence. When he leaned back to examine his creation, he couldn¡¯t help but feel a surge of pride. The ship looked striking, a perfect blend of power and elegance. For a moment, he imagined himself piloting it through the cosmos, free to explore the endless worlds that lay beyond Radiant Garden. With it, he wouldn¡¯t need to rely too heavily on the corridors of darkness. Cid let out a low whistle, his eyes wide with admiration. ¡°Kid¡ that¡¯s one helluva design. I mean, just look at it! You¡¯re damn good at this. Ever thought about working in ship engineering full-time?¡± Helios gave a small laugh, rubbing the back of his neck. ¡°I appreciate it, Cid, really. But¡ Merlin took me in when I had nowhere else to go. I owe him a lot, and I can¡¯t just up and leave now.¡± Cid chuckled, giving him a good-natured slap on the back. ¡°Ah, that old coot got lucky findin¡¯ you first, didn¡¯t he? Well, I won¡¯t twist your arm, but if you ever change your mind, you know where to find me. With talent like that, you¡¯re wasted as an apprentice.¡± This story has been unlawfully obtained without the author''s consent. Report any appearances on Amazon. Helios managed a smile, though part of him couldn¡¯t help but wonder what his life might have been like if things had been different. Maybe he would have ended up an engineer in Nightfall, building shipd and planes for real, his parents proud to see his work. The thought brought a pang of sadness, and he quickly shook it off, focusing instead on the here and now. Cid leaned over the console, saving the design. ¡°Tell you what¡ªif I can scrounge up enough Gummi Blocks, we¡¯ll see if we can make this beauty real. Wouldn¡¯t that be somethin¡¯?¡± Helios¡¯s eyes brightened. ¡°You¡¯d really build it?¡± Cid gave him a hearty nod. ¡°Hell yeah! Can¡¯t leave a ship like this sittin¡¯ in blueprint limbo, now, can we? I¡¯ll keep ya posted, kid. Who knows¡ªmaybe one day, you¡¯ll be takin¡¯ her out for a spin.¡± They both shared a laugh, the camaraderie between them warm and easy, and for a moment, Helios felt the weight on his heart lighten. Cid¡¯s enthusiasm was infectious, and Helios found himself genuinely looking forward to the possibility of seeing his design brought to life. But then he glanced at the clock on the wall, realizing just how late it had gotten. The night had fallen fully, casting a peaceful silence over the workshop. Cid seemed to notice as well, stretching his arms and yawning. ¡°Whew! Didn¡¯t realize we got so caught up in it,¡± Cid remarked, chuckling. ¡°Guess that¡¯s what happens when you¡¯re workin¡¯ on somethin¡¯ worth doin¡¯. But you should get back to Merlin¡¯s. Don¡¯t want the old man thinkin¡¯ I kept ya hostage here.¡± Helios nodded, feeling a mix of exhaustion and exhilaration from the night¡¯s work. ¡°You¡¯re right. Thanks for¡ all of this, Cid. It¡¯s been¡ well, incredible.¡± Cid waved him off with a grin. ¡°Don¡¯t mention it. You keep workin¡¯ on that talent of yours, kid. Something tells me you¡¯re gonna do big things.¡± As Helios stepped out into the cool night air, he couldn¡¯t help but feel a strange mix of emotions. Part of him felt the pride of creation, the joy of connecting with someone like Cid over a shared passion. But another part reminded him of his true purpose here, the dark path he¡¯d committed to. He couldn¡¯t waste time having fun designing ships. If he had time then he should be training his magic and getting stronger. The streets of Radiant Garden were quiet, the city bathed in the gentle glow of lamplight as he made his way back to Merlin¡¯s cottage. He couldn¡¯t help but wonder what his parents would think of him now, creating ships, working alongside Cid, finding small joys in a world that wasn¡¯t his. He had thought that avenging and resurrecting them was the only thing he¡¯d ever want, the only thing that could drive him. And yet, here he was, taking pride in work, forging bonds with people like Isa, Lea, and Cid. No, he reminded himself. These connections¡ they¡¯re temporary and unimportant. I¡¯m here for a reason. As he neared the cottage, Kurai¡¯s voice slipped into his thoughts, its tone filled with an almost mocking satisfaction. ¡°So you made a little ship design, hmm? Perhaps you¡¯re considering a career change after all.¡± Helios rolled his eyes but kept his response level. ¡°It¡¯s a skill, Kurai. One that may prove useful in the future. Nothing more.¡± Kurai¡¯s tone softened into something sly. ¡°Ah, if that¡¯s what you¡¯d like to tell yourself, so be it. But remember, attachments like these, even as you gain your so-called skills, can bind you in ways you may not foresee. I¡¯m simply reminding you.¡± Helios took a steadying breath, forcing himself to keep calm. ¡°I know what I¡¯m doing. This doesn¡¯t change anything.¡± Kurai¡¯s chuckle was low, mechanical, and dark, a shadow on the edge of his mind. ¡°For now, maybe. Just be sure that you don¡¯t let your purpose waver. It seems my repeated warnings are not being taken seriously so next time I shall extract a price.¡± With that final, chilling warning, Kurai¡¯s voice faded, leaving Helios alone with the weight of his own thoughts. As he slipped back into the cottage, he found the rooms dim and quiet, with only the faint glow of the moonlight filtering through the windows. In the stillness of the night, he felt a creeping uncertainty, a small but persistent question he couldn¡¯t quite banish. Was he truly strong enough to walk this dark path without compromise? He shook the thought off, settling down on his bed and staring up at the ceiling. Attachments were a risk. Kurai was right; bonds could be exploited, and turned into weaknesses. Chapter 35 Helios woke to a loud knocking on the front door, its steady rhythm echoing through the quiet cottage. He knew exactly who it was before he even opened his eyes. Lea and Isa had promised to return for more training, and it seemed Lea, as usual, couldn¡¯t wait to get started. Stretching, Helios stood, making his way to the door and opening it to find both of them standing outside, with Lea practically bouncing on his feet and Isa giving him a more reserved nod. ¡°Morning!¡± Lea greeted with his usual grin. ¡°Hope we didn¡¯t wake you up, but hey, the early bird gets the magic, right?¡± Helios chuckled, stepping aside to let them in. ¡°Come on in. I¡¯ll make some tea, and we can start as soon as I¡¯m ready.¡± Lea practically leaped inside, while Isa followed more calmly. Helios moved to the kitchen, putting the kettle on and preparing cups for each of them. While the tea brewed, he glanced back to see Lea already looking around, his eyes filled with curiosity, and Isa patiently waiting at the dining table. A few minutes later, Helios served each of them a warm cup of tea, settling the mugs in front of them. ¡°Drink up,¡± he said with a grin. ¡°Magic training requires focus, and a little tea doesn¡¯t hurt.¡± As they sipped their tea, Helios excused himself, quickly freshening up and put on his clothes. Once he returned to the dining table, he found Isa attempting to clear the mugs. Helios shook his head, gently waving him off. ¡°It¡¯s alright, Isa,¡± he said with a smile. ¡°I¡¯ve got it.¡± Isa nodded, respecting Helios¡¯ wishes, and a moment later, they headed out, making their way to the training spot they¡¯d used the day before. The early morning air was crisp, and a light mist still hung around the outskirts of Radiant Garden, casting a peaceful haze over the area. Helios glanced around, ensuring no one else was in sight. Satisfied, he turned to them with a nod. ¡°Alright, let¡¯s start. Lea, focus on visualizing and controlling the flame. Isa, remember to work on fluidity and precision.¡± The two nodded, slipping easily into the focus Helios had come to admire. Lea closed his eyes, a small flame appearing at his fingertips, flickering wildly before he steadied it. Isa, meanwhile, held out his hand, the air around him beginning to swirl as he carefully directed the wind¡¯s flow, shaping it with skill and intent. Helios guided them carefully, offering advice where needed and demonstrating moves to help them improve. They practiced together, their focus intense as they pushed past their limits, and Helios felt a sense of pride seeing their growth. They worked for nearly two hours, the morning slipping by in a haze of flame and wind, until he saw the fatigue setting in on both their faces. Lea finally let out a huff, extinguishing the small flame with a flick of his wrist. ¡°Man, that was awesome,¡± he said, breathless but grinning widely. ¡°I never thought magic could feel like this.¡± Isa nodded, his expression more reserved but pleased. ¡°It¡¯s challenging, but there¡¯s a sense of control. Thank you, Helios.¡± Just as they were winding down, Kurai¡¯s voice sliced through Helios¡¯s mind, cold and sharp. Did you know this story is from Royal Road? Read the official version for free and support the author. ¡°So,¡± Kurai sneered, ¡°more time wasted on these individuals despite all my warnings. If you insist on ignoring me, then as your ¡®friend,¡¯ I¡¯ll have to remove the choice from your hands.¡± Before Helios could fully register Kurai¡¯s words, a chilling presence spread around them. He felt it before he saw it¡ªa shift in the air, the unmistakable weight of darkness. From the shadows around them, shapes began to emerge: Shadows, the lowliest yet most dangerous Heartless, slithering across the ground with their beady, glowing eyes fixed on Helios, Lea, and Isa. Lea gasped, his eyes wide with fear and confusion. ¡°W-What are those things?¡± Isa stiffened, instinctively stepping closer to Lea, his expression darkening with alarm. ¡°Helios¡ what¡¯s going on?¡± Helios clenched his fists, his mind racing. He had to protect them¡ªthese two didn¡¯t stand a chance against the Heartless. Casting Aero, he sent a gust of wind toward the advancing creatures, pushing them back as he rushed over to Lea and Isa, positioning himself between them and the Heartless. ¡°Kurai,¡± he hissed mentally, his anger flaring. ¡°Stop this, now!¡± Kurai¡¯s voice was a dark, satisfied purr. ¡°Oh, I haven¡¯t done anything, Helios. This is your doing. All I did was lift the mask, and allow the darkness around you to be sensed. You, reeking of shadow as you do, have attracted these Heartless to yourself. They¡¯ve merely taken the bait.¡± Helios gritted his teeth, slashing his hand out to cast another Aero spell, scattering a line of Shadows. ¡°Undo it, Kurai! Now!¡± Kurai only chuckled mechanically, a chilling sound that echoed through his mind. ¡°Why would I? This is what you¡¯ve chosen, isn¡¯t it? Darkness is drawn to you, Helios, and if I were to leave, your scent would only grow stronger, pulling them here in even greater numbers until they consume this entire world.¡± Kurai¡¯s voice turned sharp, challenging. ¡°So, make your choice. Stand with these people in the light and sever your ties with me¡ or remain with me in the darkness. Either way, the consequences are yours to bear.¡± Helios¡¯s gaze hardened. He knew, deep down, there was no real choice. He couldn¡¯t abandon Kurai, couldn¡¯t give up the path he¡¯d set himself on. His parents, his revenge¡ªit all hinged on the darkness he wielded. ¡°I¡¯ll stay,¡± he said aloud, his voice steady. ¡°I¡¯ll stay in the darkness, with you.¡± A twisted satisfaction could be felt in Kurai¡¯s voice. ¡°Very well. Then I¡¯ll cloak your scent once more¡ for now.¡± The Heartless wavered, their movements slowing as Kurai¡¯s power enveloped Helios again, suppressing the scent of his darkness. With newfound control, Helios cast a Fire spell, the flames blazing to life in his hands. He launched it toward the nearest group of Heartless, the heat incinerating them on impact. He continued, dispatching them with fire and wind, each spell clearing more of the Shadows until the last of them dissolved into wisps of darkness. As the last Shadow vanished, Lea and Isa stumbled to their knees, their breaths coming in gasps. They looked at him, confusion and fear mingling in their eyes. ¡°What¡ what were those things?¡± Isa demanded, his voice barely above a whisper. Lea shook his head, clearly still processing what had happened. ¡°They came out of nowhere. And you¡ you fought them like you knew exactly what to do. Helios¡ what¡¯s going on?¡± Helios¡¯s mind raced, searching for a way to explain it without revealing too much. He took a steadying breath and forced his voice to remain calm, and controlled. ¡°They¡¯re living darkness,¡± he began. ¡°Creatures drawn to the darkness in people¡¯s hearts. They¡¯re¡ dangerous, but there are ways to fight them. That¡¯s why Merlin¡¯s been training me¡ªto learn how to control my magic, to be able to stand against them.¡± Isa¡¯s gaze narrowed. ¡°And what about you? Why were they drawn to us just now?¡± Helios hesitated, Kurai¡¯s mocking laughter echoing faintly in his mind. He couldn¡¯t risk exposing the truth of his connection to the darkness, not fully. ¡°Sometimes, those creatures can sense when there¡¯s strong magic nearby. They¡¯re attracted to it. That¡¯s why I¡¯ve been working so hard to keep it under control. It¡¯s¡ it¡¯s complicated. But the simple version they¡¯re after me and if you stay with me then they¡¯ll come after you too. So I can no longer train you or hang out with you.¡±
