"The greatest battles are not fought with weapons, but with the forces that shape the world.
When power transcends mortality, the question is no longer who will win ¡ª but what price will be paid for the victory."

Chapter 0: The Clash and Origins
A Clash Beyond Mortal Limits
The island was isolated, hidden by dense forests and a towering mountain that seemed to touch the heavens. Hovering above it, the Wanderer faced the Demon Lord of Earth, whose silhouette loomed menacingly in the distance. His dark figure summoned monstrous beasts, the shrieks of which filled the air. They charged toward her, claws outstretched.
But then, something shifted.
Her aura pulsed, radiating divine energy that poured into her, burning through her veins like fire and ice. The Light Goddess had chosen her.
The pain was excruciating, but the power ¡ª oh, the power was beyond anything she had ever felt. Her body quaked, reshaping under the Goddess''s influence, every cell stretching to accommodate the divine energy. She could feel her skin burning and her very soul shivering under its weight.
The battle began.
The Wanderer unleashed the full force of her fury, obliterating the beasts with a storm of blinding light. Trees snapped in half, entire trunks cleaved as her blade cut through the forest like a scythe. The once-vibrant woods turned into a battlefield of destruction, as the earth beneath them trembled with every strike.
The clash between the Wanderer and the Demon Lord shattered the very ground beneath them. Their swords collided with deafening force, creating a shower of sparks that lit up the night. The mountain groaned beneath the chaos, crumbling as their battle raged on. With a single stroke, the Wanderer''s blade cleaved the mountain into three uneven sections, sending debris raining down like an avalanche.
As the fight ascended into the sky, the force of their movements tore through the ocean below, sending waves crashing like giant walls. Their blades struck again and again, sending shockwaves across the sea, as if the world itself were breaking apart.
But the Demon Lord wasn''t done. With a roar, his blade grew to monstrous proportions. The ground cracked as he prepared for a final, devastating strike.
Her body screamed in protest as the divine energy overwhelmed her. Cracks splintered her skin, blood seeped from her mouth, and her left eye glowed with intense light. She could barely stand, yet the world needed her. She couldn''t stop now.
A thought nagged at the back of her mind ¡ª What if the Goddess wanted more than just victory? What if this power wasn''t meant to save the world, but to reshape it entirely?
The Wanderer Rises
Through the dust and rubble, the Wanderer rose. Light seeped from her wounds, her body now a vessel of overwhelming energy. Her left eye burst open, golden particles pouring from the socket as her heart pulsed with radiant power. It felt like she was beyond human limits.
Summoning every ounce of strength she had left, she raised her hand toward the heavens. A circle of pure light formed, searing the air. The blast shot forward, a beam of divine fury aimed directly at the Demon Lord. He barely managed to deflect it, the beam splitting as it tore through the sky, disappearing into the heavens.
"Not enough," she whispered, voice soft yet resolute.
This tale has been unlawfully obtained from Royal Road. If you discover it on Amazon, kindly report it.
With a renewed surge of power, the Wanderer pushed forward, forcing the Demon Lord to retreat. But the devastation she had unleashed had unforeseen consequences. The world trembled, mana swirling violently, and monstrous magic beasts began to emerge from the shadows. Strange figures also appeared ¡ª guild members who had witnessed the chaos.
"Lia, STOP!" A voice rang out from the shadows, its owner stepping into the light. His face was familiar, but his eyes ¡ª full of terror ¡ª were not. "You''re about to destroy everything!"
Lia turned to face him, her blood-drenched form radiating divine energy. Her left eye glowed fiercely, matching the panicked stares of the guild members who had come to stop her.
The Origins of Magic
The battlefield was silent, save for the crackling embers of destruction and the distant, fading echoes of monstrous roars. The war had ended, but the cost remained¡ªa scar upon the world itself. The Wanderer stood amidst the ruins, her luminous form flickering as if the very essence of magic threatened to consume her. The last remnants of battle shimmered in the air before vanishing into history, swallowed by the relentless tide of time.
The scene shifted. The past dissolved like mist, and in its place, a vast hall emerged, illuminated by floating lanterns. Rows of students sat in rapt attention as an elderly scholar, draped in a robe embroidered with the constellations of the old world, paced before them.
"And so," the scholar began, his voice measured, carrying the weight of centuries, "what you call magic today did not always exist. It was not a gift from the gods, nor a power born of nature. No, it was something far more chaotic, far more destructive."
The students leaned forward as the professor gestured toward a massive arcane mural behind him, depicting a world untouched by magic, its lands fractured, its people ordinary.
"Before the first kingdom was forged, before man could even dream of controlling the elements, before the rise of our civilizations, before the first spell was ever cast, the Earth itself stirred. Beneath its crust, something ancient lay dormant¡ªa colossal dark-purple crystal, vast beyond measure. It was the first source of magic, yet none knew it. Not until the world itself shifted."
His voice grew quieter, drawing the students deeper into the tale.
"Tectonic forces cracked the crust, and from the depths of the abyss, the crystal surfaced. A mountain of pulsing darkness, its veins coursing with an eerie glow. The world held its breath as it unleashed a mist unlike any other. Those who inhaled it... changed. Their bodies twisted in agony, their very essence rewritten. And when the pain ceased, they opened their eyes to a reality never before imagined."
The professor turned, his eyes scanning the young faces before him. "Strength beyond human limits. Speed that defied nature. Control over the elements themselves. What we call ''magic'' today was, at that moment, nothing more than an affliction¡ªa sickness, a curse, an evolution forced upon humanity."
He tapped the mural, and the image shifted, revealing humans wielding fire, bending wind, calling lightning from the sky. The students murmured in awe as they witnessed the birth of the world they now knew.
"But magic was not humanity¡¯s alone to wield," the professor continued. "From the depths of the wilds, creatures began to stir¡ªbeasts of immense power, their forms grotesquely altered by the same mana that had reshaped humankind. With magic came chaos. Kingdoms rose and fell. Wars were waged not with steel, but with the raw fury of nature itself."
His voice deepened. "And amidst this chaos, a force darker than any beast emerged. A being of malice and hunger, forged in the shadows of magic¡¯s birth. The first Demon Lord."
A hush fell over the class. The flames in the floating lanterns flickered, casting long, twisting shadows along the walls, as if the very past threatened to return.
"The world had awakened something it could not yet understand," the scholar said, lowering his voice to a whisper. "And those who dared to stand against it¡ became legends."
He turned away from the mural, his gaze distant, lost in the echoes of history.
"But that... is a story for another lesson."
The students exhaled in unison, the spell of the past momentarily breaking. The lecture was over, but their minds burned with the weight of the tale, the whispers of an age where magic was not a birthright, but a force that had nearly shattered the world.
And in that moment, they understood¡ªthe history of magic was not just knowledge. It was a warning.

The air was heavy with silence as the chaos settled. Then, a voice broke through, ancient and knowing.
"As the chaos unfolded, the true story of this world began long before..."
But history does not end with the scholars.
The truth, untold in their records, lay buried in the forgotten whispers of time. Long before the modern world, before the polished halls of the academy and the structured teachings of magic, there was a time when chaos and wonder intertwined. A time when destiny was shaped by dreams and visions, not just battle and bloodshed.
The Chief''s Dream
The village chief gazed out at the crystal mountain through the cracked wooden window of his small hut. A quiet prayer escaped his lips as his frail hand clutched a worn pendant, pleading for unseen forces to protect his people. He coughed deeply, his age and exhaustion evident, yet he stood tall, preparing for the village council meeting.
Discussions about the harvest''s yield and the rise in monster sightings filled the room. Tension hung in the air, heavy and foreboding. Suddenly, the ground trembled. A monstrous roar shattered the fragile calm. Guards scrambled, villagers armed themselves with farm tools, and the Royal Guards stationed in the village leapt into action. Magic lit up the darkening sky, their techniques forming the main line of defense.
The battle dragged into the evening, leaving destruction in its wake and fear lingering in the hearts of the villagers. By nightfall, calm returned, but the chief''s unease deepened. That night, he knelt before the dim glow of a shrine in his hut, whispering a prayer. Sleep overcame him as his voice faltered.
In his dream, a blinding light filled his vision. A faceless, radiant figure appeared, both comforting and overwhelming. A voice echoed like a thousand chimes:
"Prepare for the calamity. Train the one who bears the golden light."
He saw a fleeting image: golden hair whipping in the wind, pale skin glowing in a brilliant burst of light. The vision faded, leaving him with a sense of urgency and dread.

The Stranger''s Arrival
Two weeks passed. The village endured relentless attacks, driving off eighteen monsters while hearing reports of thirty more nearby. The harvest was secured, but the rainy season turned dirt roads into muddy traps, making life even harder.
One stormy evening, a lone figure trudged toward the village, wrapped in a tattered pale-green cloak. Rain poured in torrents, soaking her to the bone. Limping from injuries and shivering from the cold, she knocked on door after door, only to be turned away by cautious villagers.
Her knocks grew weaker with each step. Exhaustion overcame her as she reached the chief''s home, an older structure with the faint glow of a fire visible through the cracks. The chief peered out the window, his heart heavy with indecision. "What harm could a lone girl do to an old man?" he muttered, opening the door.
The girl''s voice was barely a whisper. "Please... help me."
"Come in before the storm takes you," he said, stepping aside.
An Encounter of Fates
The chief offered her dry clothes, a warm bath, and a meal by the fire. As she carefully bandaged her wounds, she introduced herself as Lia, a 19-year-old merchant from the northern kingdom of Euratia. Her story spilled out between bites of food. She had been traveling to the royal palace to seek aid for her homeland when monsters attacked her caravan. Injured and alone, she had barely escaped into the forest, losing everything in the process.
The chief listened carefully, his earlier hesitation fading. Then, as she spoke, something clicked in his mind. Golden hair, pale skin¡ªshe matched the figure from his dream.
"You''ve endured much," he said, masking his realization. "Rest tonight. We will talk more in the morning."
A Village Tested
The next day, Lia moved through the village, offering help wherever she could. Her kindness and hard work quickly earned her the trust of the villagers. But the chief''s thoughts were consumed by the crystal mountain, its looming presence a constant reminder of his dream.
After a few days, Lia had recovered well. The chief finally approached her with a request. "You plan to travel to the capital, but before you leave, I must ask something in return. Will you journey with me to the crystal mountain?"
Lia hesitated but agreed. "If it will help your village, I will."
The Mountain''s Secret
The path to the crystal mountain was treacherous. As they climbed, the air grew thick with mana, and an unnatural weight pressed down on them. The mountain''s surface shimmered with an eerie light, its presence both beautiful and unsettling.
The chief, accompanied by three village mages, led Lia to a prepared magic circle near the mountain''s base. "Step into the circle," he instructed. "Have faith."
Lia hesitated but obeyed. As she stepped into the circle, the air crackled with energy. Her heartbeat thundered in her ears. A brilliant light erupted from the mountain, and the ground shook violently. The magic circle glowed, its energy intertwining with hers. Suddenly, the mountain exploded in a cascade of light and shards. The deafening boom echoed for miles as purple crystals rained down, their mana corrupting the surrounding forest.
From the shattered remains of the mountain, a pulsing darkness emerged. Lia clutched her chest, dread flooding her senses.
The chief''s voice was barely audible;
"The calamity begins."

The Birth of Monsters
The crystal mountain''s eruption unleashed chaos far beyond the village. Mana-infused fragments rained down into the barren depths of a nearby dungeon, igniting a transformation that birthed horrors.
The animals that wandered too close to the crystal shards screamed in agony as the dense mana twisted their forms. Flesh blistered and tore, bones cracked, and their cries of pain echoed through the dungeon''s hollow chambers. The narrator''s voice explained:
"While humans are destroyed by prolonged mana exposure, animals absorb it, mutating into grotesque forms driven by bloodlust. Their transformation is both their torment and their rebirth."
Among the creatures, some exposed to more potent shards began to evolve. Intelligence flickered within their monstrous minds, and they developed the capacity to wield elemental magic. Over time, the dungeon grew into a kingdom of monsters bound by a single, primal law:
"The Stronger Rules."
Once a quiet labyrinth of caves, the dungeon now teemed with feral creatures¡ªits depths transformed into a living nightmare.
Lia and the Surge of Mana
Back at the shattered mountain, Lia stood amidst the destruction, overwhelmed by a surge of pure mana..
Her body convulsed, and searing pain shot through her veins as though liquid fire replaced her blood. Every muscle in her body tightened, her vision blurred, and she collapsed into unconsciousness, a fragile figure surrounded by the glowing remnants of the crystal.
This book was originally published on Royal Road. Check it out there for the real experience.
Villagers rushed to her aid, their faces pale with fear as they carried her away. The chief, his heart heavy with foreboding, ordered everyone to leave the area immediately. The fumes from the scattered crystals filled the air, laced with a danger they could not yet comprehend.
Lia lay unconscious for days, her body fighting the raw energy that had invaded it.
Awakening and the Gemstone
When Lia finally awoke, her body ached as if every nerve had been scorched. The chief sat beside her, clutching a peculiar gemstone strung with rosemary beads. His chants filled the quiet room:
"Fu...shi...sho...mi...de."
Confusion filled Lia''s eyes as she asked, "What happened to me?"
The chief recounted the explosion, her collapse, and the strange mana surge that seemed to affect her more than anyone else. Lia''s face paled at the memory, but she quickly composed herself. "I can''t stay here. There''s too much at stake."
Before she could leave, the chief handed her the gemstone. "This is no ordinary stone¡ªit reveals the potential of one''s mana. I believe you hold more power than you realize."
Reluctantly, Lia touched the gemstone. The room was bathed in a blinding light, its brilliance forcing everyone to shield their eyes. When the light subsided, murmurs of awe filled the air.
Lia stared at the glowing artifact in disbelief. "What does this mean? Why me?"
The chief placed a comforting hand on her shoulder. "Fate has chosen you, child. But you won''t face this alone."
Journey to the Capital
After days of preparation, the chief arranged for Lia to travel to the capital. Two skilled guards accompanied her, their presence ensuring her safety during the perilous journey.
The capital''s towering walls greeted them a day and a half later, bustling with life and activity. Lia''s first stop was the mercenary guild, where she was met with a mix of relief and frustration from familiar faces.
"Lia! Where have you been? We''ve been worried sick!" the guild attendant exclaimed.
"Let''s just say I had an... eventful detour," Lia replied with an awkward laugh.
The attendant sighed, handing her a schedule. "Your meeting with the king was postponed, but it''s set for tomorrow morning. Don''t miss it."
Lia opened her mouth to respond, "I''ll try to make it tomorrow¡ª"
Suddenly, shouts erupted from the street, cutting her off mid-sentence.
The Merchant''s Protest
Curious, Lia and the attendant rushed outside to find a crowd gathered near a building marked with a prominent guild''s emblem.
"Release the merchants!" a villager cried. "Without them, we can''t get the supplies we need!"
The crowd''s frustration boiled over as chants for justice filled the air. The tension was palpable, and the situation threatened to erupt into chaos.
From within the guild, a man emerged, his commanding presence silencing the crowd. His sharp eyes scanned the restless villagers as he clapped his hands for attention.
"What''s the meaning of this uproar?" he asked, his voice calm but authoritative.
The crowd quieted, their anger simmering just beneath the surface. Lia''s gaze locked onto the man, sensing the weight of his influence as he stepped forward to address the mob.

The Protest and the Guild Master''s Intervention
The Guild Master of the Hunter''s Eye guild, a man known for his charisma and authority, strode into the scene, clapping his hands to get the crowd''s attention.
"What''s all this noise about? You''re disturbing the others," he said firmly.
One protestor snapped, shouting, "You don''t care about us! To you powerful guild members with your fancy affinities, we''re nothing but peasants!"
Raising his hands, the Guild Master motioned for calm. "Alright, alright, settle down. That''s not true, and you know it. Now, weren''t we talking about the merchants? Where is this conversation going?"
Another protestor stepped forward, their face flushed with frustration. "We''ve heard promises before! Words don''t mean anything if the merchants aren''t released. We''re tired of being ignored."
Murmurs of agreement spread through the crowd.
"I understand your frustration," the Guild Master replied evenly. "But no one is keeping the merchants imprisoned. They''re being questioned by order of the Royal Capital, regarding the recent tax protest and the increased magical beast activity. Once the investigation is over, they''ll be freed."
Some protestors hesitated, glancing at one another uncertainly. One voice in the back muttered, "That''s what they always say..."
The Guild Master''s expression grew serious, but his voice remained calm. "Do you think causing chaos here will help your cause? If you really care about the merchants, let us do our job and uncover the truth. Your actions will only make things worse."
The crowd began to waver, their anger slowly cooling. Reluctantly, they started to disperse, though some still muttered their discontent. As the scene quieted, the Guild Master''s eyes landed on Lia. Their gazes locked, and a tense silence filled the air. He could feel an overwhelming pressure emanating from her¡ªa presence that demanded attention without even trying. It was as if the atmosphere itself thickened in her presence.
The Guild Master''s Suspicion
The Guild Master watched Lia as she turned to leave with her attendant. Her golden hair contrasted with the worn clothes she wore¡ªan odd mix of a noble''s appearance and a weary traveler''s attire. But it was her aura that caught his attention. It was a power, refined and controlled, that rivaled even the strongest of elemental mages.
Unable to contain his curiosity, he called out, "Excuse me, miss. Can I have a moment of your time?"
Lia halted and glanced over her shoulder, her expression unreadable. Her voice was calm, but there was a hint of an edge. "What could the Guild Master himself want with someone like me?"
He smiled, a knowing look in his eyes. "Let''s just say you''re not ''just someone.'' The power you carry isn''t just strength. It''s controlled, refined... commanding."
Stolen content warning: this tale belongs on Royal Road. Report any occurrences elsewhere.
Lia let out a dismissive sigh. "If that''s what you think, then you''ve got the wrong person. Now, if you''ll excuse me..."
She turned to leave, but the Guild Master wasn''t finished. "You can''t hide your presence from those like me. Someone with your power doesn''t walk unnoticed. Once you meet with the King, come to the guild hall. If it''s worth your time, I won''t bother you again."
Lia paused, her sharp gaze studying him. "Fine, I''ll stop by. But only out of curiosity. How do you know I''m meeting the King?"
The Guild Master chuckled. "I have my ways. Don''t forget this conversation." He turned and walked away, leaving Lia with more questions than answers.
The Royal Negotiation
The next day, Lia prepared for the royal conference. Dressed simply, she carried important documents and a gift from her country''s minister for the King. As she walked through the bustling streets, she noticed the joy and prosperity around her¡ªchildren playing, people laughing¡ª A glimpse of her memory layered before her eyes, she didn''t felt anything . The emptiness inside her remained, her mind focused solely on the task ahead.
At the castle gates, guards checked her permit before escorting her to the audience. The castle was magnificent, with well-kept gardens and towering statues. Inside the hall, eight grand statues and ten intricately carved pillars decorated the space. The King sat on an elevated throne, flanked by his advisors.
The guard announced her arrival. "Presenting Lia, the Wanderer of the Northern Plains."
Lia knelt respectfully before the King. "Your Majesty, I come representing Euratia, a land ravaged by drought, and land ravaged by magic beasts. We seek your aid in rebuilding."
The King studied her carefully. "Your country''s plight is well known. But if we provide resources and trade routes, what can Euratia offer in return?"
Lia''s voice was steady as she replied, "Euratia may be struggling, but it remains the heart of northern trade. My people once fed half the continent with our harvests. Even now, traders whisper of the riches our soil could yield, if only given the chance to heal. Your support would not just rebuild Euratia¡ªit would secure Eryndor''s name as a savior to the North."
An advisor interrupted, "How can we trust Euratia won''t crumble again? The North has been unstable for years with those consistent attacks."
Lia''s gaze remained steady. "Instability comes from external factors¡ªborder raids, war. With Eryndor''s help, we can strengthen our defenses and repay every debt. Doubt us if you must, but consider this¡ª Euratia''s trade network has always been the envy of neighboring lands. Help us, and that network becomes yours."
She leaned forward slightly, her voice soft but persuasive. "This isn''t just aid; it''s an investment in shared prosperity."
The King raised a hand, signaling silence. "Repayment is a nice promise, but I deal in guarantees. What assurances can you provide?"
Lia''s jaw tightened, but she held her ground. "Exclusive trade rights for Euratia. Once the famine lifts, no other country will rival your access."
The King leaned forward, intrigued. "Exclusive trade rights are tempting, but risky. What of your mines? Surely Euratia has more to offer."
"Our mines are pledged to another ally. Grains and trade rights are all we can offer. But isn''t Eryndor also facing food shortages after the recent droughts?"
The King''s gaze softened, a hint of respect in his eyes. "Very perceptive. You''ve done your homework. Suppose I agree, what if you fail to deliver?"
Lia''s voice was firm. "Reject me, and I''ll find another way. But if you accept, you''ll gain a valuable ally ."
The King chuckled, a rare smile crossing his face. "You are certainly an interesting negotiator. Very well. Deliver the first shipment within two seasons, and our alliance stands. Fail, and there will be consequences."
Lia bowed. "You will have your shipment, Your Majesty."
The Guild Invitation
After the successful negotiation, Lia made her way out of the castle. The grandeur of the royal halls still echoed in her mind, the weight of the King''s terms pressing down on her. She had secured an agreement, but the stakes were high. As she walked through the gates of the castle, her thoughts wandered back to the Guild Master''s words. "Come to the guild hall". She couldn''t shake off the feeling that he knew more than he let on.
The road ahead was unclear, and the unknown pulled at her¡ª was it worth the risk to involve herself with the Hunter''s Eye guild? What was he after? She had long been used to walking alone, but now, she faced a decision. Her hand gripped the parchment in her pocket¡ªthe documents she had brought for the King¡ªand she wondered if stepping into the guild hall would bring new challenges, or if it would just be another distraction.
As she stood in front of the guild hall, the stone structure looming before her, doubt crept into her mind. The invitation felt more like a test than an offer of aid. Was the Guild Master truly interested in her, or was he just looking for leverage in case of another stampede?
Lia''s eyes narrowed as she glanced up at the large wooden doors. She had no time for games, but something in her gut told her that whatever waited inside could either be an ally or a threat.
Shaking off the thoughts that weighed heavily on her, she pushed the door open. The moment she stepped inside, the bustling of adventurers around her seemed to pause. Every eye turned to her, recognizing her presence. She didn''t speak anything, just moved forward. She enquired the attendant for the Guild Master''s chamber...
Upon reaching the Guild Master''s chambers, he greeted her with a warmth that didn''t quite match the intensity in his eyes. "Welcome, Lia. Or should I say... Wanderer? It seems your reputation is not so easily forgotten."
Lia didn''t respond immediately, allowing the silence to stretch between them. She could feel the eyes of the other guild members on her, sensing the weight of their curiosity. For now, she chose to remain quiet¡ªshe had come to the guild only to hear what the Guild Master had to say, and not to indulge herself in unnecessary banters (Guild problems). The conversation ahead would determine her next steps.

The Guild Conference
Lia enters the hall of the guild HQ, barging in with confidence, scanning her surroundings. Strong-looking people are lounging around, laughing, their aura so dense a normal person would suffocate to death. Large sculptures and tall windows line the hall, and a huge flag bearing the guild symbol catches her eye. She murmurs, "Orion Constellation Guild, huh."
"Keen as you''ve ever been, Wanderer..." said the guildmaster, heading to his seat. "Everybody already knows. Let us introduce ourselves one by one¡ª"
Lia interrupts him, "Drop the formalities and tell me why you invited a merchant to the capital guild hall."
The guildmaster chuckles. "Mm! As you wish. The reason for your invite is the immense magic potential you possess. By the gist of our first meeting, I doubted my precision, but now... you know what you have, don''t you? Anyway, you will learn more about yourself soon."
"Powers?" Lia questions.
"Hey, kid, you don''t need to be this tense. It ain''t sketchy business, I assure you." A man leans forward. "It''s a chance for you to figure out what you''ve got. Wait, I didn''t introduce myself... My name is Zephyr. I specialize in long and mid-distance combat, blessed by the spirit of nature with wind affinity."
"You''re a new recruit, huh! You''re such a cutie. I understand that what this red blockhead is telling you doesn''t make sense now¡ª" Seraphina says teasingly.
("Seph! Why break me like that? Aren''t we teammates?" the guildmaster thinks with an awkward smile.)
"Like your powers and others, don''t overthink it. By the way, I am Seraphina, the only healer in the guild. I can still fight but not on the same level as the others... I am blessed by the goddess of light with light affinity."
"Aww! Seph! Seems like you''ve developed a liking to her. Hmm! She indeed is cute and menacingly strong," says Eira.
"My name is Eira. I specialize in defensive and long-range offensive magic for the guild, blessed with light affinity through the spirits of vast oceans. Hope we get along. And don''t get too scared of the men here¡ªwe''ll take care of you."
The guildmaster laughs. "The only one scary for us here is you."
Eira slowly rotates her face, her expression darkening menacingly. "Huh!?! Wanna fight?"
All the male generals in the guild hall let out a relieved sigh and thought at once, "This personality suits her more."
"Come on, guys! It''s rude. Let others introduce themselves." Myra sighs. "Aagh! Always quarreling like kids, you two! Ignis and Seph! Anyway, I am Myra. I use water to splash on these hotheads! Just kidding. I am a support unit in battle with my water affinity... Also, we are like family here, so it''s always noisy and bustling!" She laughs awkwardly.
Thorne, leaning against the wall, jokes, "Family, huh? Let''s first hope she doesn''t blow us up before breakfast. That aura could fry a whole town!"
Lia exclaims, "Wait, what are you all talking about? Is this mana thing that prominent in me? I don''t get it!"
Zephyr shakes his head. "What are you saying? It''s leaking from your whole body. You don''t feel it?"
"Wha¡ª" Lia starts, but Ember interrupts her. "Stop being an idiot, Thorne! Instead of pointless joking, you should''ve just moved on with the formality... Hey, newbie, you don''t mean that you''ve been pointlessly wasting loads of mana like a lifeless temple crystal, huh?"
The guildmaster interjects, "You all are intimidating her. Let her speak and instead of overwhelming her, try to properly introduce yourselves first and build a connection. (With a serious face and soft voice) You want to be fried?"
"Sorry, guild mas¡ª" Thorne sighs. "I am Thorne. I usually fight on the front lines and as a mid-range fighter, blessed with the thunder affinity."
With a loud sigh, Ember says, "I am Ember. I am usually a support fighter, but I also use fire magic for long-range combat and physical enhancements. I wield the same fire affinity as the guildmaster and was blessed by the holy goddess of flame."
She is interrupted by a deep rumbling voice. "Ha ha ha! Power alone isn''t enough. She will need control. Ignis, I''m not a mage, but I can tell she is uselessly wasting a lot of mana!" says Granite.
Ignis nods. "I know. That''s why she is here. She''s way too valuable to throw away as a merchant."
"Ha ha ha! As sly as ever, guildmaster. I don''t blame you. Anyways, I am Granite, the tank of the guild. I was blessed by Mother Earth with earth affinity. Let''s get along."
Ignis pushes his chair back and stands up. "Okay, so here I announce her as the guild''s new 8th general of the Orion Guild."
Ember''s face drops in shock. Eira''s eyes widen. Thorne freezes mid-read.
"WHATTT!!!" they all exclaim.
Objections rise from Ember and Thorne. "She is just a 19-year-old with immense mana who doesn''t even know how to control it yet! This could be dangerous! Did your brain get messed up, Ignis? May I zap your senses back?"
Ignis replies calmly, "Train her!" (Silence fills the hall.) "Train her like you train yourselves. Well, I didn''t introduce myself... I am Ignis, the guildmaster of the great Orion Guild."
The story has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.
Ember protests, "You tell us to train her, but can she even handle it?"
"Don''t worry. She will adapt. I am sure," says Ignis.
Eira laughs softly. "What an interesting kid to craft her liking on the guildmaster... Very well, we shall train you. Any objections?"
A brief silence follows, then, one by one, everyone nods in agreement.
Lia shouts, "Wait! What are you all deciding for me? I have a job and a little brother to return to! What''s with this nonsense? I am leav¡ª"
"Already did it," the guildmaster cuts in. "Your negotiation terms and documents are finalized. Your brother''s studies are now supported by us. He''s transferred to one of the top academies here in the capital. He will be shifting here soon."
"Heeeh?! What did you say? Is it true?" Lia gasps. "You''re messing with me! How did you even do this?!"
The guildmaster smirks. "I''ve told you before, but I will tell you again... I have my ways. His sharp grin deepens. "Welcome to the Orion Guild, our 8th general - Lia Lumestria Caerhiel."
The Fall of the Wanderer
The battle raged on.
Through the reflection in Lia''s right eye, the image of the guildmaster trembled¡ªhis face contorted in horror. Blood drenched her features, her right arm''s skin tattered and raw. His voice broke through the chaos, desperate and shaking.
"Stop it! You''re going berserk¡ªyou''ll destroy everything!"
But Lia stood resolute. The moment she turned her head away, ignoring him, a dark cleave tore through the air toward her face. She barely moved¡ªjust enough to let it pass. The attack struck the mountain rubble behind her, triggering a massive landslide. Boulders tumbled down in an avalanche of destruction.
Her gaze snapped toward the Demon Lord. The instant she blinked, he vanished¡ªonly to reappear right in front of her in a split second. A broad, blunt weapon, not meant for slashing but pure impact, swung toward her. With barely a moment''s reaction, she raised her arm to block it.
CRACK!
The sheer force of the blow sent her body bending unnaturally before she was hurled to the ground like a comet. She smashed into the earth, carving a massive crater, a thick dust cloud rising from the impact.
Her body trembled. Barely able to keep up with the immense strain, she exhaled sharply, feeling the goddess''s presence within her, cold and unfeeling.
"Did I misjudge this body''s strength? No... I''m simply pushing it beyond what I predicted would be necessary to seal him."
A flicker of light coursed through her broken arm. Without hesitation, she snapped it back into place, a faint glow mending it partially. Then, she shot upward from the dust cloud, her shattered form still moving with terrifying force.
At the peak of her ascent, she materialized a longsword of pure light. The Demon Lord, momentarily caught off guard, could do nothing as she cleaved through his shoulder. A luminous arc of destruction erupted, carving a massive ravine into the battlefield. The devastation left the watching generals petrified. They barely had time to register the blood splattering, the carnage, the destruction.
The Demon Lord staggered, snarling, "You cannot def¡ª"
Lia''s wicked laugh cut him off. "Mm! Ahaha... So fun, so fun, so fun¡ª" She took a deep breath, then her voice dropped to a chilling whisper. "But playtime is over."
A small, pearl-like light fragment appeared in her hand. It stretched, elongated, and divided into intricate glowing lines. With a mere flick of her wrist, they formed into an octahedral cage, eight shimmering faces trapping the Demon Lord inside. He roared in agony, his monstrous screeches deafening.
Then, she swayed her hand, and hundreds of magic circles appeared inside the cage, each firing at different angles simultaneously. The once-blinding light began darkening with sheer intensity. A massive rune circle formed beneath the containment.
"Koff¡ª" Blood spilled from Lia''s mouth, yet her expression remained unchanged.
"LIA, STOP!" The guildmaster''s voice cracked with desperation. "If you don''t stop, the island will be destroyed! We''ll have no choice but to attack you!"
Lia barely reacted. She shifted her gaze slightly, dismissing their words. In an instant, the guild generals launched their assault¡ªa storm of flames, thundering arcs, massive boulders, piercing ice lances, and a phoenix-like inferno surged toward her. Winds roared, magic clashed.
She merely raised her fingers.
A golden ripple spread through space, and for a brief moment, all attacks halted mid-air before vanishing, consumed by the divine abyss of light.
Lia had transcended human limits.
Her veins pulsed with an eerie glow, the empty socket of her left eye leaking pure mana. Her mortal body was never meant to wield such power¡ªyet she did not stop.
The battlefield fell silent.
The very essence of mana itself dissipated from the air, swords dulled, enchantments shattered. For the first time, the generals felt true fear.
Lia exhaled, momentarily staggering. Yet, even as a shattered vessel, she remained standing. The generals knew they had to stop her¡ªbefore she destroyed more than just the battlefield.
Then, in an instant, she vanished.
Thorne, the strongest among them, barely had time to react. She reappeared before him, and instinctively, he swung his greatsword in an attempt to parry.
"Lia! Get back to your senses¡ªwhat happened to you?!"
A clash. A parry. A desperate block. But then¡ª
SLASH!
Thorne''s right hand was severed. Even his synthesized steel could not withstand the raw force of Lia''s strikes. The ground beneath him cracked under the sheer weight of her blows. His breaking point was near.
Another strike¡ª
Another block¡ª
Granite''s sword shattered upon impact. Before another second passed, Lia flew upwards, screaming in agony. A second blade of light materialized in her grasp. What followed was an onslaught¡ªsavage arcs of destruction slashing through everything in sight. The battlefield was painted in blood, and one by one, Seraphina, Ember, Thorne, and Granite fell, their bodies unable to withstand her merciless assault.
The remaining generals, though terrified, pressed on, knowing they had to wear her down, waiting for the moment she would break free from this madness.
Then, it happened.
A golden explosion erupted from Lia''s back. Her blade disappeared, her eye rolled lifelessly, and she plummeted.
THAASH!
The Light Goddess withdrew from her vessel.
Her once-radiant body dimmed, the divine veins now mere cracks leaking blood. Cold winds swept over her torn form. Distantly, she saw her comrades rushing toward her, their figures hazy. Their voices¡ªso close yet unreachable.
With the last of her strength, she muttered, "Wh...at was tha¡ª"
Then¡ªdarkness.
Lia the Wanderer¡ªthe hero who once wielded the power of the Goddess of Light¡ªwas gone.
The world she left behind would never be the same.
The guild members stood frozen, weapons lowered, heads bowed, struggling to comprehend what they had just witnessed. She had been divine. Unstoppable. But in the end, even the strongest hero could break.
The light she once flickered had long vanished, and the magic she unleashed could not be undone.
Then¡ªthe earth trembled.
From the remnants of their battle, unknown beings emerged¡ªnot summoned by the Demon Lord, but by the mana itself. The guildmaster, drenched in blood, felt it deep in his bones.
This was not a victory.
Eira clenched her fists, voice trembling. "Wasn''t she supposed to save us...?"
The guildmaster exhaled sharply. "She did. But at what cost?"
The world would remember this battle. The scholars would craft it into a legend, a tale of mankind''s first hero, the great battle, the fall of the Demon Lord. They would simplify it, make it palatable.
But those who stood on that battlefield knew the truth.
They had seen the hero wield the power of a goddess¡ªonly to be crushed beneath it.
They had seen the world nearly break apart.
And in its fracture... something new had awakened.
Centuries passed. Kingdoms rose and fell. The war between mankind, demons, and gods faded into whispers, half-believed myths.
Yet, beneath the surface, something stirred.
The echoes of that battle had not faded.
The gods had not vanished.
The demons had not been destroyed.
The ploy had simply changed.
And now, in an era that had long since forgotten the war for survival¡ª
Something... or someone... was about to remember.

The Morning Rush
The last traces of winter hung in the air as melted snow dripped from the neighborhood''s Christmas trees. The warm sun peeked through the curtains of Kenji Ryu''s room, but it wasn''t enough to keep him from groaning when his alarm clock blared at 6:00 AM. He lazily turned it off and snuggled back into his blanket. Just five more minutes...
By the time his eyes fluttered open again, it was 6:30 AM.
"Oh no, not again!" Ryu muttered as he jumped out of bed. He dashed around his messy room, shoving books, pens, and who-knows-what-else into his bag. His breakfast consisted of snatching a piece of toast as it popped out of the toaster. With bread dangling from his mouth, he slipped on his shoes and bolted out the door. Pedaling furiously on his bike, he managed to slip into his classroom just as the bell rang. Barely.
The Search for Aido
The morning classes passed in a blur. By break time, Ryu had only one thing on his mind: finding his best friend, Aiden "Aido" Rys. After a fruitless search through Class 2-D and a couple of hangout spots, Ryu sighed, rubbing his temples. He knew exactly where Aido would be.
Ryu pushed open the door to Aido''s room without knocking. The sight was all too familiar: Aido sprawled out on his bed, blissfully asleep, completely ignoring the world outside.
"Aido! Wake up!" Ryu yelled, pulling the blanket off his friend. When that didn''t work, he resorted to slapping him.
Aido groaned, pulling a pillow over his head. "Five more minutes..."
"Five minutes my foot!" Ryu grumbled, giving Aido''s shoulder a shake and, for good measure, a gentle kick to his rear. Eventually, Aido dragged himself out of bed, half-asleep and entirely unbothered. Ryu had to practically shove him into clothes to get him ready for the day.
The Convenience Store Detour
Once they were finally on their bikes, Ryu took the lead, pedaling aggressively through the streets. The scenery blurred past them: a wide bridge over a sparkling river, colorful spring forests, and a mountain shrouded in clouds. Aido, trailing behind, marveled at the view¡ªuntil his stomach let out a loud growl.
Stolen from its rightful author, this tale is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.
"Hey, there''s a convenience store!" Aido called out, pointing to the side. "Let''s stop for a snack."
Ryu groaned. "Seriously? You just woke up!" But he gave in, following Aido inside.
Aido grabbed a meat bun, and Ryu picked a sweet coffee. Aido, being unusually generous, paid for both. They were halfway through enjoying their snacks when Ryu glanced at the clock near the bus stop. His eyes widened.
"Break time''s over!"
The two scrambled back to school, trying to sneak in unnoticed. However, their luck ran out at the hallway, where they encountered Mr. Theodore Brookshade, the school''s notoriously strict teacher. He was busy signing the attendance register when he caught sight of the duo attempting their usual routine of slipping in as if it were just another ordinary day.
Trouble with Mr. Brookshade
"Late again, Ryu? And Aido, I see you''ve decided to grace us with your presence," Mr. Brookshade said, his sharp gaze boring into them.
Ryu bowed deeply, stammering out an apology. Meanwhile, Aido stood there with his hands shoved in his pockets, his posture slouched and his eyes half-closed, as if the lecture was nothing more than background noise. His laziness only seemed to fuel the teacher''s frustration. After a scathing lecture, Mr. Brookshade walked off, leaving Ryu fuming.
While walking to the class...
"Why is it always because of you that I get into trouble?!" Ryu snapped, shaking Aido''s shoulder.
Aido rubbed his eyes and yawned. "Relax, you''ll live."
Before Ryu could stop himself, he swung a fist. Aido, caught off guard, blocked poorly, and Ryu''s punch grazed his cheek. The entire class, which had been quietly watching the scene, gasped in unison.
Ryu froze, his anger replaced with instant regret. "Oh no... Aido, I¡ªI''m so sorry!"
Aido straightened up, touching his cheek where a small red mark was already forming. He shrugged. "No big deal. Just don''t punch me next time."
Whole class was watching but no one seemed to care much. A classmate who sits next to both blockheads nudged Ryu. "You better get him to the nurse''s office before Mr. Brookshade sees that."
The Nurse''s Office
The nurse''s office smelled faintly of herbs and antiseptic. Nurse Viola Dawnstone gave Ryu a knowing look as she used healing magic to soothe Aido''s cheek. Aido leaned back in the chair, looking as if he might doze off again. Meanwhile, Ryu sat by the window, lost in thought.
He gazed out at the horizon. The sight of students practicing magic in the courtyard below brought a pang of longing. Ryu had no magical affinity like Aido''s. All he had was his determination¡ªand his best friend''s infuriating laziness to deal with.
A Walk Home
The final bell rang, signaling the end of the school day. As they walked home together, Ryu tried to convince Aido to start coming to school more regularly.
"You missed three months at the beginning of the year! You''re going to fail at this rate," Ryu lectured.
Aido smirked. "Maybe I''ll transfer to the magic academy. With my affinity, I''d fit right in."
Ryu rolled his eyes. "You? The weakest in the academy? Good luck with that."
"You''ve never seen my actual power", Aido smirks.
They both laughed, their footsteps echoing down the empty street. When they passed a vending machine, Ryu stopped to buy two cans of coffee. Handing one to Aido, he cracked his open and took a long sip.
"Caffeine is the best," Ryu said, sighing contentedly.
Aido grinned. "I could sell my soul for caffeine."
Ryu snorted, and the two dissolved into laughter. By the time they reached home, the day''s chaos felt like a distant memory. Despite everything, their bond was stronger than ever.

Another morning, another day. Birds chirped outside Ryu¡¯s window as he finished packing his bag. He downed a glass of warm milk, took a bite of toast, and stepped outside. Grabbing his cycle, he decided to stop by Aiden¡¯s place since he had some time to spare.
As he pedaled through the quiet streets, he glanced back at his house. It was quite large for a student¡¯s home. Soon, he arrived at Aiden¡¯s place. The windows were all shut. With a sigh, Ryu climbed the stairs and knocked on the door. No response. He knocked three more times, but still¡ªnothing.
¡°Tch.¡± He clicked his tongue and pulled out his phone, dialing Aiden¡¯s number. After multiple attempts with no answer, he let out an exasperated sigh. ¡°Agh! Guess I¡¯ll have to do this again¡ª¡±
Just then, the door creaked open. Aiden stepped out, disheveled but awake. A moment of silence passed before Ryu practically exploded, ¡°GAH! Am I dreaming?! You, the guy who¡¯s always sleeping, up this early¡ for SCHOOL?!¡±
Aiden winced at the volume, plugging his ears. ¡°Too loud. Pipe down.¡±
Ryu crossed his arms. ¡°That was a surprise. Guess you took my words seriously. Fine, whatever. We¡¯re getting late¡ªlet¡¯s go!¡±
Aiden nodded lazily, and together, they headed to school.
The Announcement
After settling into their classes, Mr. Theodore Brookshade, Class 2-A''s homeroom teacher, walked in, his voice as commanding as ever. ¡°Today, all Year 2 students will have a physical exam. It will be held after the lunch break. Assemble on the grounds of Block A. Be prepared.¡± With that, he left the room.
The classroom buzzed with reactions. Some students were excited to escape regular lessons, while others worried about how it would affect their grades. Ryu, however, simply stared at the board before letting out a loud sigh.
A Clash in the Cafeteria
The cafeteria was its usual mess¡ªstudents talking, laughing, and shoving past each other with trays full of food. Ryu sat across from Aiden, poking at his meal with a vacant stare, lost in thought.
Aiden, on the other hand, was completely zoned out, staring at his cream bun, oblivious to the rustling around him. Ryu grabbed a chilled can of juice and pressed it against Aiden¡¯s cheek, hoping to snap him out of his trance.
¡°What are you doing?¡± Ryu asked.
Aiden blinked, barely registering the question, before slipping right back into his daze.
Ryu sighed, shaking his head. Of course that was ineffective. What was I even expecting? A reaction?
Unbothered, he shrugged and started eating his lunch.
Then, out of the corner of his eye, he noticed a commotion near the entrance.
A group of upperclassmen had surrounded a first-year girl, their postures aggressive. One of them, a tall guy with a cocky smirk, loomed over her while his friends laughed.
Ryu tensed.
The girl stood her ground, arms crossed, her face unreadable¡ªbut Ryu didn¡¯t notice that part. His body was already moving before his brain caught up.
He left his tray on the table and strode toward them.
¡°Oi,¡± he called out, loud enough to turn heads. ¡°What the hell are you doing?¡±
The upperclassmen turned, eyebrows raised. The leader, still smirking, tilted his head. ¡°Mind your business, kid.¡±
Ryu ignored him and looked at the girl. ¡°You okay?¡±
She blinked, then¡ªwithout a word¡ªslipped right past them.
Ryu frowned. Wait¡ she wasn¡¯t stuck? Then why¡ª
¡°See? No problem here,¡± the guy said, stepping forward. ¡°But now, we got one.¡±
Ryu exhaled through his nose, forcing himself to stay calm. ¡°Look, I don¡¯t want any trouble. Just quit acting like a jackass and go eat your damn food.¡±
The narrative has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the infringement.
The guy¡¯s smirk twitched. ¡°What¡¯d you say?¡±
¡°I said¡ª¡±
The punch came fast. Ryu barely dodged, stepping back as chairs scraped against the floor. Heat rushed to his head.
The cafeteria lady at the counter shouted, ¡°No fighting inside!¡±
They locked eyes.
Ryu¡¯s pulse pounded in his ears.
Fine.
Outside, then.
Aiden''s Unexpected Power: What a Waste of Time
The fight didn¡¯t last long.
Ryu was good¡ªbut the guy was bigger, stronger, and just as much of a hothead. A few exchanged blows later, Ryu was on the ground, breathing hard, sporting a couple of bruises, but nothing serious.
He sat up, wiping his cheek as the upperclassman snorted, cracking his knuckles. ¡°Tch. Waste of time.¡±
Ryu didn¡¯t answer. He just grinned through the pain. After a while, a shadow loomed over him. Aiden stood there, casually munching on his cream bun, holding another out for Ryu.
¡°Mmm. Wanna eat?¡±
Ryu twitched, veins popping on his forehead. Aiden took another bite. ¡°No? Alright, more for me.¡±
¡°GAH! I¡¯LL KILL YOU!¡± Ryu shot up, chasing after him, but Aiden effortlessly outran him. Panting, Ryu shouted, ¡°I got my ass handed to me, and you just watched?!¡±
Snatching the bun from Aiden¡¯s hands, Ryu furiously started eating. Aiden, still sluggish, barely lifted his bun. ¡°Too much effort¡ you looked fine.¡± He gave a lazy thumbs-up.
Ryu¡¯s eye twitched. ¡°You know magic! You could¡¯ve beaten them.¡±
Aiden stretched, yawning. ¡°Meh.¡±
A moment of silence. Ryu glanced at the half-eaten bun in his hand, grip tightening. ¡°This is not fair.¡±
Aiden licked his fingers, turning away. ¡°Then beat it.¡±
Ryu didn¡¯t respond. But the way he zoned out said enough.
The Physical Exam
Later, all Year 2 students gathered at the field for the physical exam. The energy was high, and the presence of outsiders watching was unusual. Ryu noticed but ignored it, stretching. Aiden, as expected, stood at the back, yawning, uninterested.
The tests began¡ªsprints, endurance runs, jumps, burpees, and strength challenges. Despite having no magical enhancements, Ryu pushed himself to keep up. Meanwhile, Aiden observed the crowd¡ and then¡ª
He saw someone.
In an instant, Aiden¡¯s sluggish demeanor shattered. Before anyone could react, he shot forward with lightning speed. His movements were flawless, his jumps powerful, his sprint terrifyingly fast. He shattered previous records by a huge margin, leaving even the top students in shock. Even the instructor stood baffled.
Panting from his own attempt, Ryu gawked. ¡°What the hell¡¡±
Aiden finished the last event miles ahead but stood frozen at the finish line. His heartbeat pounded loudly in his ears. Something felt¡ off.
Ryu ran up to him. ¡°Aido? Aidooo¡ªAIDOOO!¡± No response. He waved his hand in front of Aiden¡¯s face. Nothing.
Clap! Ryu clapped loudly next to his ear.
Aiden flinched, rapidly blinking back to reality. The crowd erupted with questions.
Annoyed by the noise, Aiden muttered, ¡°Ugh¡ noisy.¡±
Ryu smirked. ¡°That was awesome, man. Didn¡¯t know you had it in you.¡±
Aiden shrugged, looking restless. But before Ryu could say more, the instructor called the students back.
The Upcoming Journey
Back in class, murmurs spread among the students.
"Hey, did you hear the news? There might be a war soon between Yu¨¢nxu¨¢n and Aryavarta," one student whispered.
"Yeah, I saw that too," another replied. "Those two nations have been on bad terms lately. Traveling there could be dangerous."
Before the conversation could continue, Mr. Theodore Brookshade, their homeroom teacher, stepped forward. His deep voice silenced the room.
"Finals are approaching. And with them, the most important decision of your high school life."
The classroom fell into a tense hush.
"After the exams, a practical assessment will determine your future path. Those with strong magical abilities will be sent to one of the nine elite magic academies, where they can choose between combat roles or positions supporting society. However, those with little to no magical affinity will need to excel academically and physically to qualify for the Army Academy. Other career paths exist, but for most non-magical students, the army remains the main goal."
Students exchanged nervous glances. Some were excited, while others looked uneasy.
Ryu clenched his fists.
He had always wanted to fight alongside magic users, but fate never granted him an affinity. No matter how hard he tried¡ªagain and again¡ªnothing ever manifested. He held onto hope for years, waiting for a miracle. But that day never came. Eventually, he gave up.
The whispers of others still echoed in his mind:
"That kid? He¡¯ll never amount to anything."
"No affinity? He¡¯s got no future."
"A failure from a family of magic warriors."
But what broke him wasn¡¯t the gossip. It was his father¡¯s words:
"You¡¯re a disgrace to our lineage. We¡¯ve given up on you. Don¡¯t shame us anymore."
Those words shattered him.
If he couldn¡¯t be a magic soldier, then he would become a soldier in the army. That became his goal. He had always lagged behind his peers¡ªphysically and magically. He had no friends until he met Aiden, but that was a story for another time.
As these thoughts churned in his mind, Mr. Brookshade¡¯s smirk returned.
"However," he continued, "before the assessment¡ I have good news."
The students leaned in.
"As a reward for your hard work in the exams, the school has organized a five-day expedition to the Royal Beczethone Ruins, along with a campsite trip. Consider this a farewell gift from us teachers¡ªa final adventure with your friends before you all go your separate ways."
Excitement erupted through the classroom, breaking the tense atmosphere.
Mr. Brookshade¡¯s voice cut through the cheers, "Enjoy yourselves. Because after that, your future begins."
Ryu exhaled. He was excited about the trip, but his mind remained heavy. The real challenge wasn¡¯t the exams or the trip¡ªit was the assessment.
His future would be decided there.
Clenching his fists, he took a deep breath.
"I¡¯ll make it. I¡¯ll become one of the best cadets."

The Calm Before the Storm
The classroom was buzzing with excitement¡ªstudents chattering, celebrating, and exchanging notes. But amidst the joy, in the quietest corner of the room, sat one solemn figure¡ªRyu.
Meanwhile, in Class 2-D, another student mirrored the same eerie silence. Aiden sat motionless at his desk, his face as blank as a washed-out chalkboard. His posture screamed, I do not care, but his eyes¡ªthose told a different story.
As soon as classes ended, Ryu dashed across the hallway toward 2-D like a man on a mission. Unsurprisingly, Aiden was still at his seat, waiting for the classroom to empty out.
Ryu wasted no time. ¡°Hey, did you hear the news? Finals are next week.¡±
Aiden, resting his head on the desk, lazily replied, ¡°Yeah, I heard. No need to panic. Everything¡¯s fine.¡±
Ryu narrowed his eyes. ¡°Everything¡¯s fine? How do you even conclude that? Remember last time? You bombed geography and math so bad the teacher gave you a ¡®special consultation¡¯?¡±
Aiden sighed, rubbing his temples. ¡°Okay, okay¡ I¡¯ll look into it¡ª¡±
Ryu smacked his back hard. ¡°¡®Look into it¡¯? No. You¡¯re actually gonna study this time, and I¡¯ll make sure of it!¡±
Aiden groaned dramatically. ¡°Ugh, it¡¯s really troublesome having friends like you.¡±
Ryu grinned. ¡°What was that? Sorry, I don¡¯t speak lazy!¡±
Just then, an unexpected voice cut through the conversation.
Uninvited Trash Talk
A tall student strode forward, his posture exuding arrogance. His name was Daniel, a former childhood acquaintance of Aiden.
With a smirk, he mocked, ¡°Aiden, I almost didn¡¯t recognize you. Your father, Mr. Ryse, used to brag about you being a genius. And now look at you¡ªlazy, unmotivated, and completely pathetic. What a joke.¡±
Before Aiden could respond, Ryu stepped up, cracking his knuckles.
¡°So what if he¡¯s lazy? That¡¯s his business. But let¡¯s get one thing straight¡ªyou don¡¯t get to talk down to him like that.¡±
Daniel scoffed. ¡°And who the hell are you? A talentless nobody sticking up for another has-been?¡±
Ryu smirked. ¡°Talentless? Maybe. But you know what? Even on his laziest day, Aiden could obliterate you with a flick of his fingers.¡±
Daniel¡¯s face twitched with irritation. ¡°You sure talk big for someone without an affinity. If Aiden keeps hiding behind you, he¡¯s gonna be a laughingstock.¡±
Aiden, who had been silent till now, finally spoke, ¡°Even if Ryu doesn¡¯t have an affinity, he could easily beat you in a physical fight. Hell, even if he sneezed in your direction, you¡¯d probably pass out.¡±
Daniel¡¯s patience snapped. He lunged forward, throwing a punch straight at Aiden¡ªonly for Ryu to catch it effortlessly.
Ryu grinned. ¡°If you¡¯re gonna fight, at least do it properly.¡±
By now, a crowd had gathered, students whispering and watching eagerly. Daniel¡¯s lackeys had already arranged a sparring session, even tricking the combat instructor, Aaron Beck, into officiating it.
Aaron, intrigued by Aiden¡¯s performance in P.E., agreed. ¡°Alright, here are the rules:¡±
No full-power attacks. No damaging school property. No serious injuries allowed. First one to touch the ground loses. Aaron took a deep breath " Begin ".
The ¡®Fight¡¯ That Wasn¡¯t a Fight
Daniel grinned, sparks forming in his hands. ¡°I¡¯ll be nice. You can back down now.¡±
The crowd gasped. Fire affinity. A rare element.
Ryu, ever the supportive friend, shouted from the sidelines, ¡°IF YOU BACK OFF, I¡¯M GONNA BREAK YOUR BONES.¡±
Aiden sighed, rubbing his temples again. ¡°Why am I even here¡?¡±
Then, without warning, Daniel clenched his fists, and the sparks erupted into swirling flames. The heat surged outward, making the nearby students flinch. A few even backed away. For a brief moment, the flames danced wildly, illuminating Daniel¡¯s smirk.
Then Aiden lifted his hand.
A sinister orb of flame appeared, raising the temperature instantly. The ground shimmered under the heat. The air wavered.
The sparks in Daniel¡¯s hands? Extinguished instantly.
Daniel fell to his knees. His breath came in ragged gasps as the heat pressed down on him, suffocating. He tried to stand, but his legs wobbled. Sweat poured

down his face as he stared at Aiden¡¯s completely unbothered expression.
Aiden finally spoke, ¡°This is just mid-level area heat control. Learned it when I was ten.¡±
The teacher murmured, ¡°Fire against fire, huh? But one of them is completely outclassed.¡±
The crowd went dead silent.
For a split second, Aiden¡¯s gaze sharpened, just barely. His usual laziness gave way to something else¡ªawareness. Annoyance. Recognition that this could¡¯ve been an actual fight if Daniel had been stronger. But then he exhaled, rolling his shoulders. Not worth the effort.
Aaron finally stepped forward and declared the match over.
¡°Aiden has won. Fairly.¡±
Whispers filled the crowd.
Ryu smirked. ¡®Told you.
Daniel stormed off, humiliated, his lackeys struggling to keep up. His fists clenched so tightly his knuckles turned white. This isn¡¯t over.
Ryu turned to Aiden. ¡°Okay, but seriously. What the hell was that red ball thingy?¡±
Aiden shrugged. ¡°Just a basic spell. Nothing special.¡±
Ryu blinked. ¡°¡That was ¡®basic¡¯? Dude, you nearly roasted him like a chicken.¡±
Aiden sighed, shaking his head. ¡°This whole day has been nothing but a headache¡ but thanks, I guess.¡±
Ryu grinned, slapping Aiden¡¯s back again. ¡°I know what you¡¯re capable of. Even if you refuse to move forward, I¡¯ll just keep pushing you toward your bright side!¡±
Aiden glared. ¡°You are a weird person.¡±
Ryu winked. ¡°And tomorrow, you¡¯re gonna be hella famous.¡±
Aiden groaned and sarcastically said, ¡°Great. Just what I needed.¡±
The Study Group Forms
The next day, Aiden¡¯s popularity skyrocketed¡ªeveryone was talking about yesterday¡¯s match. At lunchtime, Ryu approached Aiden, a grin on his face.
¡°I made a study group with Karl and Ren. From today onwards, we¡¯ll study in person at your place.¡±
Aiden froze, his expression turning to horror. His voice came out shaky. ¡°Why¡ my room?¡±
He slowly lowered his head, and Ryu could practically see the life leaving his eyes. Yeah, he¡¯s dead now, Ryu thought.
The reason for the study group was simple¡ªmidterms were around the corner, and their homeroom teacher had made it painfully clear that anyone failing more than two subjects would have to take remedial classes instead of participating in the upcoming combat trials. For Ryu, that was an absolute no-go.
Sitting diagonally from them, Alina and Lena overheard the conversation. Lena, who had a crush on Ren for his looks and athleticism, perked up. Alina, ever the opportunist, smirked and leaned toward Ryu.
¡°Hey, mind if we join too?¡± she asked.
Ryu shrugged. ¡°If you¡¯re comfortable, then no problem.¡± To ease any hesitation, he quickly added, ¡°We¡¯ll switch the study location to the city library.¡±
Aiden, head still down, smirked in relief.
And just like that, the plan was set¡ª3 PM, city library.
The Grand Library Chaos
The library was eerily quiet, save for the occasional rustling of pages and scratching of quills. Sunlight filtered through tall windows, casting a warm glow on the long wooden tables. It was meant to be a productive session.
Meant to be
Lena sat beside Ren, but her focus was nowhere near the books in front of her. She kept sneaking glances at him while fidgeting with the corner of her textbook.
Alina smirked and casually nudged her. ¡°Hey Ren, Lena¡¯s struggling with this problem. You should totally help her.¡±
Lena turned red. ¡°I-I¡¯m not struggling that much¡ª¡±
¡°She wouldn¡¯t want to fail, right?¡± Alina cut in.
Ren blinked, shrugged, and scooted closer. ¡°Sure, let me see.¡±
Meanwhile, at the other end of the table, Ryu and Karl were locked in an intense debate.
¡°I¡¯m telling you, summarizing notes makes studying ten times easier,¡± Ryu argued.
Karl groaned. ¡°Dude, no one does that except you. I just wing it.¡±
¡°Which is exactly why you barely pass.¡±
Karl rolled his eyes.
Aiden, on the other hand, was locked in a different kind of battle. He had tried to solve a math problem. Really, he had. But now, his brain was melting.
Dragging his fingers down his face, he muttered, ¡°Who even decided math should exist?¡±
Karl peeked over. ¡°You good, man?¡±
Aiden slumped onto the table. ¡°No. My brain is overheating. If I do one more equation, it¡¯s gonna explode.¡±
Ryu, not looking up, sighed. ¡°You say that every time, and yet, here you are. Keep going.¡±
Aiden sat up dramatically. ¡°No. I refuse to suffer any longer.¡± He snapped his book shut with a thud, stood up, stretched lazily, and waved. ¡°Enjoy your numbers. I¡¯ll be anywhere but here.¡±
And with that, he was gone.
For a moment, everyone just watched him leave.
Karl snickered. ¡°I give him credit for lasting this long.¡±
Ryu shook his head. ¡°Unbelievable.¡±
The Study Session Falls Apart
While Lena and Ren were lost in problem-solving, Ryu and Karl continued their war against numbers.
¡°Okay, let¡¯s go over this one more time,¡± Ryu sighed, tapping his pen. ¡°The trick is to break it down step by step.¡±
Karl wiped his forehead. ¡°I am breaking it down. The problem is that it¡¯s breaking me down first.¡±
Ryu rolled his eyes, effortlessly solving the equation. He pushed the notebook toward Karl with a smug grin. ¡°See? Simple.¡±
Karl glared at the solution like it had personally wronged him. ¡°¡I hate you.¡±
Alina, who had drifted from Lena¡¯s matchmaking mission, leaned against Karl¡¯s chair. ¡°Struggling with math isn¡¯t so bad. We have other strengths.¡±
Karl raised a brow. ¡°Like?¡±
Alina grinned. ¡°For starters, our music taste is elite. You still listen to that band I recommended?¡±
Karl¡¯s face lit up. ¡°Oh, hell yeah. Their new album¡¯s fire.¡±
And just like that, the study session derailed further.
Then¡ª
Aiden returned.
He walked in like a battle-worn soldier, moving stiffly, a steaming black coffee in his hand. Without a word, he slumped into his seat and took a slow sip, as if the caffeine was his last lifeline.
Ryu smirked. ¡°Don¡¯t you think you¡¯re addicted to caffeine?¡±
Without missing a beat, Aiden took another sip and deadpanned, ¡°Says the guy who lives on caffeine.¡±
The girls blinked. ¡°Wait¡ what?¡±
Ryu sighed. ¡°He means coffee.¡±
Lena and Alina exchanged glances before bursting into laughter. ¡°Oh my god, we thought you meant something else!¡±
Aiden, slightly more awake, glanced at his math book. Seeing everyone else pushing through sparked a rare motivation in him.
He picked up the book¡ opened it¡ and then slowly placed it over his face.
¡°¡Nope. Motivation gone.¡±
Ryu sighed. ¡°You good?¡±
¡°My brain just short-circuited.¡±
Everyone laughed¡ªeven Ren cracked a grin.
Then Alina checked the time and paled. ¡°Oh no.¡±
Lena followed her gaze. ¡°It¡¯s past 9?! We¡¯re so dead.¡±
With their curfew long missed, panic set in.
¡°Time to run.¡±
Books were stuffed into bags, chairs scraped back, and the two girls sprinted out of the library, already bracing for the scolding at home.
Days Pass, Bonds Strengthen
What began as a chaotic study session slowly turned into a routine. They met up more often¡ªsometimes studying, sometimes just talking. Lena actually studied instead of just staring at Ren. Alina and Karl bonded over music. Aiden still showed up, left, and showed up again¡ªstill lazy, but at least pretending to try.
They weren¡¯t just study partners anymore.
They were friends.
The Night Before Exams, the campus was unusually quiet.
At Aiden¡¯s dorm, the scene was¡ predictable. He was sprawled on his bed, sleeping in broad daylight, a book lying open beside him, untouched. No stress in sight.
Meanwhile, across campus¡ª Ryu sat at his desk, deep in his books. His eyes were heavy, exhaustion creeping in. He had pushed himself all day, determined to be as prepared as possible.
But eventually, his body betrayed him. His eyelids drooped, and before he knew it, his head hit the desk, notes scattering as sleep took over.
The scene faded to black.
Exam Week Begins
The next morning, the campus was in chaos.
The once-calm study group now faced their greatest challenge yet¡ªthe exams. And the week was on fire.

The Chaos of the Exam Week
The final week of exams was nothing short of a battlefield. Students dragged themselves through the hallways, their energy completely drained. Some had dark circles deep enough to be mistaken for war paint. Others clutched notes with a desperation that suggested they believed last-minute cramming could work miracles.
Ryu sat hunched over his desk, fingers tight around his pen. His mind raced, squeezing out every ounce of knowledge before the invigilator announced, "Time''s up."
Across the room, Aiden was slouched in his chair, his posture far too relaxed for someone taking an exam. Every few minutes, he''d tap his fingers against the desk before lazily jotting something down, like he was doing the test as a personal favor to the teacher.
Meanwhile, Karl had completely given up, leaning back with a resigned expression, staring at the ceiling as though contemplating his life choices.
Lena and Alina whispered back and forth until the invigilator shot them a glare that promised detention if they continued.
At the far end, Ren was muttering complex equations under his breath, his fingers twitching as if trying to summon divine intervention.
The final minutes arrived. Ryu¡¯s heart pounded as he glanced at the clock. Not enough time. His hand moved frantically, scribbling down his last answer¡ª
A shadow loomed over him. The invigilator reached out and snatched the paper from his grasp.
Ryu exhaled sharply, slumping in his chair. Survived.
Post Exam Exhaustion and the Gathering
The moment they stepped out of the exam hall, the air felt lighter.
Ryu rolled his shoulders, stretching out the stiffness from sitting too long. His first instinct? Check on Aiden.
He found him near their usual spot, staring out of the window like someone contemplating the meaning of life.
¡°Yo, buddy. How was the exam?¡± Ryu asked, nudging him.
Aiden sighed. ¡°Guess it was fine. Looks like I won¡¯t fail anything this time.¡±
Ryu''s eyebrows shot up. ¡°WOAH! That¡¯s a great response coming from you!¡±
Aiden gave him a bored look. ¡°It¡¯s not that shocking.¡±
¡°Wanna celebrate your great achievement?¡± Ryu teased.
Aiden rubbed the back of his head. ¡°I don¡¯t really feel like it¡ but I don¡¯t have a reason to say no either.¡±
Before they could continue, their group¡ªLena, Alina, Ren, and Karl¡ªgathered in classroom 2-D.
¡°Hey, Kenji, how was the exam?¡± Lena asked.
Ryu shrugged. ¡°Almost ran out of time, but all good.¡±
Alina smirked. ¡°As expected of a scholar. Anyway, we¡¯re planning to hit up some caf¨¦s, maybe do karaoke. You in?¡±
Ryu grinned. ¡°Oh, perfect! Aiden and I were just talking about celebrating.¡±
Before anyone could respond, Karl dramatically threw his hands up. ¡°Finally! The storm before the calm is over, and peace has returned.¡±

Alina pinched the bridge of her nose with an exasperated sigh. ¡°Ugh, Karl, can you not with the terrible jokes? They¡¯re not funny¡ªalso, you¡¯re interrupting our plans. Shoo! Shoo!¡± She waved him away like an annoying fly.
Karl smirked. ¡°Says the person who laughed at my joke just last week.¡±
A vein twitched on Alina¡¯s forehead, but she took a deep breath and chose to ignore him.
Turning her attention to Aiden, she crossed her arms. ¡°You don¡¯t seem very interested, but trust me, it¡¯ll be fun if you come.¡±
Aiden sighed. ¡°Yeah, yeah. I¡¯ll tag along.¡±
Ryu smirked, barely hiding his amusement behind his hand. ¡°Ehh? That¡¯s rare. Usually, you just shoot us down without a second thought."
¡°Just shut up already.¡± Aiden¡¯s deadpan reply earned a few chuckles from the group.
Magic, Ambitions and Guidance
Before heading to the caf¨¦, the group found themselves lingering in the academy''s open training grounds. The golden glow of the setting sun cast long shadows across the field, where a few students were still practicing magic.
A small crowd had gathered around their combat instructor, Master Ravel. His sharp gaze swept over the students as he observed one struggling to conjure a flame.
¡°Magic isn¡¯t just about strength,¡± Ravel said, his voice cutting through the murmurs. ¡°It¡¯s about control, about discipline.¡± With a flick of his wrist, a small ember flared to life above his palm before vanishing. ¡°Without control, you¡¯re just another reckless fool playing with fire.¡±
The group watched, intrigued, as the student tried again.
¡°Man, I wish we had more time to practice before the expedition,¡± Ren muttered. ¡°I barely get to test my Lightning Arc outside of class.¡±
Lena nodded, summoning a small gust of wind between her fingers. ¡°Same. I finally stabilized my Wind Affinity in combat, and now we¡¯re jumping straight into a field trip.¡±
Karl, leaning against the railing, crossed his arms. ¡°Must be nice to have affinities.¡±
Ryu tensed slightly before forcing a chuckle. ¡°Yeah¡ tell me about it.¡±
A silence settled between them.
Ryu exhaled. ¡°I always wanted to get into a magic academy¡ But, well, you know how that went.¡± He tried to sound casual, but his voice carried an edge of frustration.
Master Ravel turned to him. ¡°A person without magic can still become powerful. You just have to carve your own path.¡±
Ryu met his gaze, something unreadable flickering in his eyes.
Breaking the tension, Alina stretched and grinned. ¡°Well, if we¡¯re talking future plans, I¡¯m aiming for the Lunar Magic Corps. Elite unit, prestigious, and they get the best uniforms.¡±
Lena smirked. ¡°No surprise there.¡±
Karl snorted. ¡°I just want a stable job. Maybe research¡ªaway from explosions and combat maniacs.¡±
Ren grinned. ¡°You say that, but you¡¯d make a killer strategist.¡±
Aiden, as expected, only muttered, ¡°Haven¡¯t thought about it.¡±
"Of course you haven¡¯t," Ryu said, shaking his head.
The conversation drifted into teasing and laughter as they made their way toward the caf¨¦.
The Caf¨¦ and A Glimpse of Elite
The caf¨¦ was warm, buzzing with chatter and the smell of freshly brewed coffee.
As they settled in, the holo-screen above the counter flickered to life.
"Breaking News! The Five Great Generals of the Major Magic Academies have gathered for an emergency summit today. Though the details remain undisclosed, sources suggest a major shift in the magical world is upon us."
The screen showed five figures, their presences imposing even through the display.
For a moment, the entire caf¨¦ seemed to pause.
Ren leaned forward. ¡°Wait¡ All five? That never happens.¡±
Lena whispered, ¡°It must be serious¡¡±
Karl frowned. ¡°Or dangerous.¡±
Alina, however, had a different reaction. ¡°Forget the crisis¡ªlook at them. I mean, that one right there? Handsome as hell.¡±
The tension shattered as the group groaned.
¡°You are unbelievable,¡± Ryu muttered.
Before the broadcast could continue, the screen cut to an advertisement, snapping them back to reality.
The Calm before the Storm
As they stepped out of the caf¨¦, the first raindrops began to fall.
At first, it was a gentle drizzle. Then, it turned into a steady downpour.
Ryu pulled up his hood. ¡°Guess we¡¯re running home.¡±
Alina groaned. ¡°Ugh, my hair!¡±
Aiden, as usual, remained unbothered. ¡°Should¡¯ve checked the forecast.¡±
As they rushed through the rain, their laughter mixed with the sound of water hitting the pavement.
For a moment, everything felt¡ normal.
But deep down, something gnawed at Ryu.
The image of the generals, the cryptic news, the unease settling in his chest.
Something about this trip felt different.
Something about it felt... different.

The School Trip: From Museums to Campfires
The bus ride was peaceful¡ªat least for some. Aiden was fast asleep, his head resting comfortably against the seat, while Ryu sat beside him, gazing out the window, admiring the rolling hills and lush greenery.
The rhythmic hum of the bus made it a perfect moment to appreciate nature, but the tranquility was quickly disrupted by the students seated at the back. Their chatter grew louder, laughter turning into a nuisance, until the new female teacher, Miss Riko, finally had enough. With a sharp scolding, she restored order, and the ride continued smoothly.
Shortly after, the bus came to a halt near the Royal Beczethone Ruins, where an ancient museum stood, filled with relics of the past. The students disembarked, some excited, others already dreading the long hours of history lessons ahead.
Inside, they wandered through exhibits showcasing the gauntlets of past generals, rune stones imbued with magic particles from ancient creatures, and artifacts dating back to wars of forgotten times.
Despite the fascinating displays, most students were indifferent¡ªmore of the let the past stay in the past type. Still, they went through the motions, absorbing what they could before the day ended.
That evening, they arrived at an inn booked by the school. Exhausted from the day¡¯s explorations, most students quickly dozed off. However, as soon as the teachers left for their own quarters, the night took a different turn.
A Night of Ghost Stories
"Alright, it''s time for some real history," one of the students whispered, a mischievous grin spreading across his face.
A small group gathered in one of the larger rooms, whispering excitedly. Among them was Alina, fired up and eager to spook everyone, and Lena, already clutching a pillow in fear. One by one, they began sharing mystery ghost stories¡ªsome drawn from folklore, others completely made up on the spot. Each tale grew darker, the candlelight flickering as if responding to the eerie atmosphere.
Every creak in the floorboards made Lena jump, while Alina only grinned wider. "You know, they say these ruins are haunted¡" someone teased, making Lena squeal in protest.
They managed to bluff the teachers a couple of times, convincing them they were asleep whenever they checked in. But their luck eventually ran out, and they were caught red-handed. With a final warning, the teachers sent everyone back to their rooms, bringing the ghostly fun to an end.
The Exploration Begins
The next morning, the students were divided into groups and given free rein to explore the surrounding areas. This was a crucial part of their education¡ªa simulated survival exercise meant to prepare them for future situations where they might find themselves lost beyond the provinces of the major nation, a common occurrence during wartime.
Each group was given only one cellphone for emergencies, forcing them to rely on teamwork and decision-making skills. Of course, they were still being observed and guided by teachers, ensuring their safety.
Mr. Scalor Prince, a seasoned instructor with experience in survival training, stepped forward.
¡°Listen up,¡± he commanded, ¡°you¡¯ll be setting up your own tents tonight. Boys and girls will have separate tents, but you¡¯re free to collaborate with other groups. Work smart, not just hard.¡±
The students quickly formed teams.
In Ryu¡¯s case, his group consisted of:
Aiden (lazy but reliable)
Karl (collected and strategic)
Ren (sharp-witted and athletic)
Kyle (new member, part of the basketball team)
The girls formed their own teams accordingly, leaving each group to its own devices.
Setting Up Camp
Taking charge, Ryu stepped up as the group leader, distributing tasks efficiently.
Ryu & Aiden ¨C Gathered firewood.
Ren & Kyle ¨C Collected water from a nearby stream.
Karl ¨C Searched for edible fruits.
By evening, their supplies were gathered, the fireplace was ready, and the tents were set up. The crackling of firewood soon filled the air, casting warm light across their temporary camp.
Sitting around the fire, the group dug into the fresh fruits brought by Karl, enjoying their sweet taste. Karl, however, couldn¡¯t help but grumble about the bug bites he endured while picking them. The others only laughed, praising him between bites.
A Midnight Walk
After their meal, Ryu decided to check in on the other groups and¡ªwithout giving Aiden a choice¡ªdragged him along.
Aiden groaned, shooting him a tired glare. "I swear, Ryu¡ do you ever run out of energy?"
Ryu only grinned. "Nope. Now, come on. Let¡¯s go."
Despite his complaints, Aiden reluctantly followed, his posture resembling an annoyed old man forced out of his bed. The night air was crisp, the distant chirping of crickets adding to the peaceful atmosphere.
After a short stroll and a few mischievous remarks from Ryu, they returned to the tent. Aiden wasted no time¡ªthe moment he hit the mat, he was out like a light. It was almost comical how quickly he could fall asleep, as if he''d been sleepwalking through the entire day.
A case of content theft: this narrative is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.
Just as Ryu was about to rest as well, a few unexpected visitors arrived.
Uninvited Guests
Alina and Lena poked their heads inside. "Hey, can we stay here for a while?" Alina asked, her eyes sparkling with mischief.
Aiden¡¯s half-asleep groan made it clear what he thought of the idea, but Ryu shrugged. "Why not? Just don¡¯t make too much noise."
The next half-hour was filled with lively chatter, playful teasing, and a few rounds of cards. The warm glow of the fire outside only added to the cozy atmosphere, and even Lena¡ªwho had been terrified during the ghost stories earlier¡ªwas now fully immersed in the fun.
Aiden, however, was clinging to the last shreds of his patience, trying desperately to sleep through the noise. With each burst of laughter, his annoyance grew.
Just as he was about to snap, sitting up with a glare sharp enough to silence the entire tent, the girls¡ªperhaps sensing the impending explosion¡ªquickly gathered their things. Giggling, they excused themselves and hurried back to their tent before Aiden could utter a single word.
Left in the sudden quiet, Aiden let out a slow, frustrated sigh before flopping back onto his bedroll. Ryu chuckled, shaking his head as he finally settled in.
Adventures and fun can be carried out tomorrow as well¡ªbut for now, sleep finally had its turn.
Early Morning Discovery
As usual, Ryu woke up early, stretching as the first rays of sunlight pierced through the dense foliage surrounding their campsite. The crisp morning air beckoned him for a stroll, so he decided to take a walk along the riverbank. The gentle rush of water and the occasional chirping of birds made for a peaceful atmosphere.
As he wandered, his gaze landed on an unusual stone resting by the shore. Runes were delicately carved across its surface, faintly catching the morning light. He crouched down, brushing off some dirt to get a better look, but before he could dwell on it for long, he glanced up at the sky.
The sun had risen higher than he expected.
His eyes widened in realization. Crap, I need to get back and manage the group!
Without a second thought, he left the stone where it was and sprinted back to the campsite.
A Shared Love for Books
Upon his return, he found everyone still fast asleep¡ªexcept for Kyle, who was sitting cross-legged in the corner, nose buried in a book.
The cover instantly caught Ryu¡¯s eye.
"The Name of the Wind."
Ryu¡¯s interest piqued as he approached. "You''re reading Rothfuss?"
Kyle looked up, adjusting his glasses. "Yeah, the fifth edition. Thought I¡¯d kill time with it."
A grin spread across Ryu¡¯s face as he sat beside him. "Man, I love that book! Kvothe¡¯s journey, the magic system, the way Rothfuss writes¡ªit¡¯s insane. How far are you in?"
"About halfway. Just got to the part where Kvothe starts learning sympathy."
"Ohh, that part¡¯s great! The way he manipulates heat¡ªit¡¯s such a well-thought-out magic system."
Kyle chuckled. "You sound like a total bookworm."
"You¡¯re one to talk," Ryu shot back playfully. "It¡¯s rare to find someone here who actually reads beyond textbooks."
The conversation carried on for a bit, both of them excitedly geeking out over their favorite moments. But after a while, Kyle closed his book and looked at Ryu thoughtfully.
"Can I ask you something?"
"Yeah?"
Kyle hesitated before speaking. "Why do you always support Aiden? I mean, you¡¯re active, sharp, and way more responsible than him. But you keep pushing him forward like... like ignoring a bee on a hive."
Ryu¡¯s smile faded slightly. His expression softened, his gaze drifting as if lost in thought. "Aido is¡ somewhat similar to me," he murmured. "But along with that, I also see a glimmer of hope in him."
Kyle frowned, intrigued. "Hope?"
Ryu clenched his fist subtly, his thumb brushing against an old scar on his wrist. His voice was quieter now. "I don¡¯t want him to end up like... someone I knew."
Kyle observed him for a moment before sighing. "Honestly, if it weren¡¯t for you, Aiden would¡¯ve been nothing but a lackey in class."
The conversation was cut short when Karl, still half-asleep, groggily lifted his head. "What are you two nerds mumbling about this early in the morning¡?"
Kyle smirked. "Just books."
Suddenly, Rin bolted upright, eyes wide. "WOAH¡ªIT¡¯S ALREADY 8 AM?!"
Ryu blinked before his face twisted in horror. "WHAT?!"
Without a second thought, he grabbed Aiden¡ªstill snoring peacefully¡ªand threw him out of the tent.
There was a heavy THUD followed by a groan.
Kyle, Karl, and Rin collectively winced. "Oof. We feel for you, Aiden."
Aiden groggily opened his eyes, blinking at the bright morning sky. "What the hell, Ryu¡?" he grumbled, rubbing his back.
"It¡¯s already 8! You¡¯ve been sleeping like a log!" Ryu snapped.
Aiden yawned, still unfazed. "Fine, fine¡ but did you really have to throw me out?"
Ryu grinned mischievously. "Of course. Consider it an energy boost."
The others exchanged a glance before muttering in unison, "He¡¯s an unusual one¡"
They all wished Aiden luck for putting up with Ryu.
Evening Exploration and Campfire Banter
As the day went on, the students spent their time sightseeing the nearby woods, stumbling across broken ruins and collecting old junk, believing they were precious historical artifacts. As the sun dipped below the horizon, they returned to camp, exhausted but content.
That evening, Ryu dragged Aiden along for another walk, much to the latter¡¯s dismay. By the time they returned, the campfire flickered softly in the dim night, casting shadows against the trees.
Nearby, a group of girls from the study club had gathered, chatting and giggling with the boys. Kyle, however, sat alone in a corner, engrossed in his book as usual.
Inside one of the tents, things were far more lively.
Alina and Lena had sneaked in, laughing and teasing their friends, turning what was supposed to be a resting period into an impromptu party. Ryu was in his element¡ªjoking, talking, keeping the conversation alive.
Aiden, on the other hand, lay motionless on his bedroll, an arm draped over his face. He had been trying to sleep, but the noise made it impossible.
With a sigh, he finally sat up. His voice was flat but firm.
"Alright, enough. Out. All of you."
The tent fell silent for a second.
Ryu raised a brow. "Dude, chill. We¡¯re just talking."
"Talking? You¡¯re practically throwing a festival in here."
The girls exchanged nervous glances. One of them whispered, "Maybe we should just¡ª"
Aiden cut in. "Good idea. Door¡¯s that way."
Insulted, the girls huffed and left. The rest of the group followed, leaving only Ryu standing there.
Aiden flopped back down. "Finally. Peace."
Ryu shook his head. "You didn¡¯t have to be such a jerk about it."
"Not my problem," Aiden muttered. "Now, if you¡¯ll excuse me¡ªsleep."
Ryu clenched his fists but didn¡¯t push further. He just turned and left the tent, exhaling sharply.
Moonlit Discovery
Ryu wandered toward the river, his mind restless. As he approached the shore, something caught his eye.
A faint glow.
He stepped closer and saw the same rune-covered stone from earlier¡ªbut this time, it was glowing softly. He frowned, scanning the area, and noticed more stones with identical carvings scattered along the riverbank.
Then, across the river, even more.
His heart pounded with curiosity. It almost looked like... a path. A deliberately placed trail leading somewhere deeper into the woods.
Without hesitation, he crossed the river, carefully stepping along the stone path. As he ventured deeper, the air around him changed. The usual sounds of the night¡ªcrickets, rustling leaves¡ªfell into an eerie silence. A foul mist thickened, making each breath feel heavier.
After ten minutes, the forest around him seemed different. Weeds cracked underfoot. Broken, split pillars stood with strange circular engravings.
Then, through the mist, he saw it.
A massive stone structure stood before him, covered in the same glowing rune patterns. A cave-like entrance lay at its center, shrouded in an ominous stillness. But as Ryu stepped closer, something unexpected happened.
The mist faded.
Instead of a dark ruin, a breathtaking garden unfolded before his eyes.
Dense trees with hanging pink blossoms draped over an ancient stone pathway, glowing softly in the moonlight. Three old tombstones rested at the end of the path, surrounded by vibrant wisteria-like flowers. The air was thick with mystery, yet oddly peaceful.
Ryu took a deep breath, admiring the surreal beauty before him. A slow grin crept onto his face.
"I think this should be our next exploration site¡"

Moonlit Ruins
Ryu gazed in awe at the shimmering moonlight reflecting off the hanging flower beds, their soft petals swaying like wisteria curtains. The ruins before him seemed like an entirely different world, untouched by time.
"What is this place... hidden inside the ruins?" he muttered, his eyes tracing the structure of a small cave-like opening nestled between vines, flowers, and slick, dew-covered bushes. Two tombstones stood solemnly at the entrance like silent sentinels, their ancient carvings shifting subtly as if alive. Ryu leaned in, attempting to decipher the script, but the symbols felt unfamiliar¡ªancient beyond recognition.
As he wandered deeper, strange stones surrounded him¡ªsome glowing faintly, others polished like steel, reflecting the moon¡¯s ethereal glow. Each step left him breathless with wonder until a sudden sound snapped him out of his reverie.
A crackling fire.
The distinct, rhythmic pop of burning wood echoed from within the cave. And yet, despite the unmistakable sound, there was no flickering light, no telltale glow of flames.
Curiosity gripped him. With cautious steps, he ventured inside.
The Void¡¯s Embrace
As soon as he crossed the threshold, the world shifted.
A thick darkness swallowed everything. The entrance vanished behind him. No moonlight, no reflections, not even the faintest glimmer. Ryu turned sharply, reaching out, but there was no wall, no ground beneath his feet¡ªjust the sensation of floating in an abyss.
Panic surged. His breath quickened.
"What is this place?! Damn it!" he gasped, spinning wildly in the void. There was no up, no down, only weightless, endless black. He took a tentative step forward¡ªexcept there was no ground to step on. And yet, somehow, he wasn¡¯t falling.
Then came the sound.
A ripple. Gentle, like water disturbed by a light touch. Then silence again. The sound had come from below¡ªor above? He had no way of knowing. He pressed on, his heart pounding so hard that the sheer quietness around him made it unbearable. Each breath echoed like an unnatural storm.
His legs burned, his chest tightened. He didn¡¯t know how long he had been walking, only that he had to keep moving. Until¡ª
His knees buckled.
Desperate and terrified, he made a fatal mistake.
"HELPPPPP!" he screamed.
The void roared back. His own voice returned to him, distorted and deafening, an unbearable shriek reverberating through the abyss. The sheer force of the echo sent shockwaves through his skull. His vision blurred, his head spun, and then¡ª
Everything went black.
Echoes of a False Reality
Morning light filtered through the curtains.
Ryu groggily blinked, the scent of home wrapping around him like a warm embrace. The countryside air, the familiar wooden texture of his room¡ªit all felt... real.

Then a knock.
"Oi, Ryu! Wake up! Are you going to sleep all day? Mom¡¯s calling you for breakfast!" The voice rang from the other side of the door.
He sat up, still shaken. His fingers brushed against the edge of his bed, tracing over the smooth fabric of his childhood blanket. The last petal from a wilting flower in his vase drifted to the floor.
Had it all been... a dream?
Dazed, he walked downstairs, the sounds of his family filling the house with warmth. His brother smirked at him over breakfast. "You look weird. What¡¯s up?"
"I had this strange dream... something about a school, a magic academy, a cave trip..." Ryu mumbled, staring blankly at his plate.
His brother chuckled. "That¡¯s what you get for watching too much anime. You can¡¯t fire magic from your hands, idiot."
"Stop teasing him! He¡¯s still a kid," their mother scolded, setting down a fresh plate of food. Laughter rippled through the room, but Ryu barely heard it.
His head lowered, his mind racing. Something was wrong.
Then, instinctively, he looked up.
His breath caught in his throat.
His family sat before him, but something was missing. Their faces¡ª
Featureless. Blank.
Like mannequins carved from flesh.
A sickening static filled his ears. His heartbeat slammed against his ribs. The voices around him melted into an unintelligible blur, repeating the same distorted phrase:
What happened, Ryu?What happened, Ryu?What happened, Ryu?
He staggered back, his hand flying to his mouth to stifle a scream. His foot missed the first stair.
He fell.
The Descent
The warmth of home was gone.
Darkness returned.
He crashed onto an unseen floor, a sharp pain jolting through his body. His limbs trembled as he pulled himself up, breath ragged, mind reeling. His surroundings were nothing but an abyss. Again.
Then, his hand met something solid. A wall. He pressed against it, but the moment he did¡ª
The ground beneath him vanished.
Weightlessness seized him, and he plummeted. Again. Deeper. Spiraling into something far worse.
Torches flared to life, one by one, casting a ghastly blue glow onto the vast chamber that revealed itself beneath him. A grand, decayed chandelier loomed overhead, its candles flickering with dark, unnatural flames.
Bones crunched beneath him as he landed.
The Chamber of the Unknown
Ryu groaned, his forehead slick with blood. A sharp sting flared as his trembling fingers brushed against the wound. The metallic tang of blood lingered in his mouth, his breath ragged as he struggled to his feet. The cold stone beneath him felt damp, almost alive, pulsating with an unseen energy.
Then, he saw them¡ªbones.
Scattered remnants of the long perished¡ªsome unmistakably human, others grotesquely alien¡ªlay twisted in grotesque contortions, their bones frozen mid-thrash, as if caught in an endless struggle against an unseen horror. The flickering blue flames along the walls carved shifting silhouettes from their remains, the wavering light giving the illusion that they still twitched, their suffering not yet over.
Ryu swallowed hard, his throat dry. The walls surrounding him weren¡¯t just old; they were ancient, carved with symbols that pulsed faintly, shifting as though they could breathe. He couldn¡¯t read them, but the very sight of those inscriptions sent a crawling unease down his spine.
Something was off.
He felt watched.
A presence lurked beyond his field of vision¡ªsilent, heavy, suffocating. The air itself resisted movement, thick like tar, clinging to his skin. Every breath he took felt invasive, as if something unseen seeped into his lungs with each inhale.
Then¡ªfrom above, a glow.
Soft at first, like the flicker of a dying ember. Then, steadily, it grew. The stillness thickened. The atmosphere shifted.
A weight, invisible but undeniable, pressed against his shoulders.
His heartbeat quickened. The crunch of bones beneath his feet echoed through the vast chamber, sending whispers through the cold, damp air. The chamber no longer felt like mere stone and shadow¡ªit breathed. The darkness wasn¡¯t empty; it had depth, stretching endlessly, writhing with unseen horrors just beyond the veil of sight.
Then, a blinding radiance.
It pierced through the abyss, slashing the void with an unnatural brilliance, a light so sharp it felt like a blade against his skin.
Ryu instinctively threw an arm over his face, his pupils constricting painfully. His mind reeled from the sudden shift, a violent contrast to the crushing darkness that had surrounded him moments before.
As the glow dimmed slightly, something became clear.
Something¡ªor someone¡ªstood before him.
His breath hitched.
For the first time since his descent into this forsaken abyss, he froze.
It was not human. It was not beast. It was something else.
The air around the entity warped violently, bending space itself like rippling water. The glow emanating from it wasn¡¯t just light¡ªit was pressure, an overwhelming force that sank its claws into his very soul.
Ryu could not move.
His body screamed to flee, to act, but his limbs refused. Every cell in his body recoiled, but no matter how much he willed himself to run, he was locked in place. The sheer weight of its presence crushed him like an insect trapped under the heel of a god.
His ears rang, his vision blurred at the edges. He felt his own consciousness slipping, dragged down by something far beyond human comprehension.
He could do nothing but stare, his mind caught in a vacant seizure, trapped between awareness and oblivion.
And then-
