《Botched DnD》 The Prolouge "Attention everyone, I have decided that we will be completely restarting this current campaign, and do it completely differently. There are a few reasons for this, but the most prominent one is that I have been really bored with this last campaign¡± The DM typed as he leaned back in his chair. He really was bored with this one. The first time they¡¯d played their little game of DnD, however botched it was, he had still really enjoyed it, however, this time, he really hadn''t been in the groove, which had led to several not well thought out segments, which made this time around kinda horrible. This time, however, will be different, the DM planned on making a map and quests and all that beforehand, and really make it more in line with regular DnD. This would allow for the game to have a more in line and be more linear, preventing too much insanity. Having said this, he hasn¡¯t actually prepared anything yet, so the DM erased his message and planned on saying that again later when he actually had everything planned. Three hours Later Alright! Now is the time! He had successfully created all his plans for the campaign, and while he can¡¯t plan for everything, he still thinks it¡¯ll be fine. First, the map! He spent probably the most time on this in order to make it look acceptable, and he thought he did alright. The key locations he put on there were 3 towns, a mountain, a few farms, a valley, and a large river that all of the villages were placed on. The river went all throughout the map, and he was hoping it could pose a decent obstacle for the players. He also sprinkled a few crappy monster sprites throughout the map so that the monster encounters weren''t made up on the spot, which would hopefully help prevent the players from grinding in one spot for too long. He planned on using the same system he had used in their previous games, more refined of course, since the other ones were made as things were happening. He also decided that he would spawn everyone as humans in the same area so that nobody would have an inherent advantage. The story has been illicitly taken; should you find it on Amazon, report the infringement. The first time they did this was a disaster. For some reason, he decided it would be a good idea to spawn somebody as a freaking door, and another person as a regular house cat. Why he thought that would end well, nobody knew. He had also added a few goblin villages and a couple of other monster hot-spots. Then, the DM made some sheets for a few monsters he planned on ¡°cursing¡± his world with. He added a few different monsters, including but not limited to: rabbits: these would be the lowest level to start with, crabs, wolves, deer, bears, and a few more. Alright, now the only thing he needs to do is the quests! He planned on having about 4 quests per town, with one town having 5. After another hour of writing, the quests were finally done, and it was time! Hopefully nothing goes too wrong, but hey, what could happen? The DM decided that they will start tomorrow. While in bed that night, he thought about the world he wanted to create, and the lives of the villagers. There will be a cult for a made up God who people of one city are fine with, but another city is entirely against. There will be a war going on between the country they start in and another country the players will learn about later, and maybe even join in on. The next day, after school, he got on Discord (where the group played their game) and typed out his message. After typing this he thought to himself ¡°is that the only reason I''m restarting?¡± And no, no it wasn''t. The real reason he hadn''t enjoyed his previous experience with botched DnD was because of his lack of preparation, and lack of enthusiasm. He included these thoughts into his message, and then hit send. Nobody responded for the next few minutes, and so, while he waited, he set up everyone''s character sheet. After a while of doing this he remembered how he had given one of his players a wild card, an item that allows literally anything (as long as it''s reasonable). Since the last game was cut short, he decided to let the player start this one with it, since he hadn''t gotten a chance to use it. After about 20 more minutes of prep, he got his first response. He chatted with his friends for a bit on what they wanted their character''s name to be. His friend the frog god asked to be named Trazyn. The DM didn''t know why, but it sounded cool, so he accepted the name. His other friend, known in the group as salad, decided to be known as Harry. And finally, their other friend, who the DM called sandya, named their character Anubis. Then, at long last, they began their game. ¡°Alright so¡¡± the DM said¡ The First Awakening ¡°You awaken in a forest, with several rings of dead trees centered around one big deceased tree that you are all currently laying against¡¡± ¡°Mrrfgh¡± I say as I wake up. Even though My eyes are closed and my arm is over my head, it is STILL really bright! It''s almost like the sun itself is intentionally in my eyes to try to wake me up. Why would it even do that? I finally open my eyes and discover that, yes, the sun is trying its hardest to wake me up. ¡°WHAT THE HECK MAN?¡± I yell at the sun in annoyance. After I fully gather myself I realize. ¡°Hold on one moment¡± I mutter. Where am I? I look around and notice a few key details. First, I am in a forest. This is the least surprising thing, as, if i was going to wake up somewhere that is NOT my cozy home, the woods is at the least the best second option. Second, all of the trees within sight are dead. This is slightly concerning, but it makes sense because it feels like winter right now, and it''s quite chilly. Third, there are more people around this tree. I had walked around the tree to try and get some sort of sense of where I was, when I noticed 2 entirely different people laying against the tree I woke up against. One of them was a human, and looked kind of insane. The other one was an elf, who looked like they had a bad hair day today. Both of them were asleep. After looking around more, I spotted some kind of pedestal with nothing on it, which was strange. This is when I realized the fourth thing; I don''t remember anything. Except for one thing. My name is Harry. I remember nothing else. Freaky. I go back to my side of the tree and sit down and ponder. Then I realized something. ELVES? There are elves here? Is this a video game or something? Then I noticed something. If this is a video game, is there a pause or something similar? I whisper out ¡°pause¡±, which does nothing. Then I whisper several other things like ¡°menu¡± and ¡°Harry¡±, until I say ¡°status¡± which causes a window opens up: Name: Harry Race: Human Class: N/A Sub-Class: N/A Hp: 10/10 Inventory: Wild Card, Map (2/6) Equipment: N/A Status Effects: N/A Skills: 1 Recently Gained Skills: Inspect: a common skill used to get a description of an item, enemy, or more. Can also be used on status to get more information on things. Interesting. So this is an isekai, or at least similar. I decide to use inspect on ¡°class¡± The genuine version of this novel can be found on another site. Support the author by reading it there. Class: a class is a representation of your main focus and goals. Classes give skills based on the class, and number of skills is based on how you got your class . You can get a class by either forcing it through meditation (warning, May take several days) or through gaining levels. Very, very interesting. A class sounds very useful. I decided I would try to get a class. The first class I could think of was a rogue, which would hopefully give me skills like sneak attack, or stealth, that might help me survive. Since the description mentioned meditation, I sit down and go into the classic meditation pose and think. ¡ª ¡ª ¡ª ¡ª ¡ª ¡ª I woke up to someone yelling. By the light from the sun, I could tell I was outside, and since I don''t remember falling asleep¡ wait. I don''t remember anything. That''s concerning. After waiting a while until I felt like whoever yelled was gone, I opened my eyes and looked around. I was in a forest of dead trees as far as the eye could see, and there was an elf next to me, and a human who looked like he was meditating? Who the heck meditates in the woods? Well, I guess this guy did. After a quick double take after I realized there was an elf here? I realized something. I''m from Earth, but there''s an elf here. To my knowledge, elves don''t exist on Earth, and therefore, I''m no longer on Earth. I remember from Earth that I read a heck of a lot of litrpg isekai books, and this is giving some serious isekai vibes. The most common thing from those books is a system, so, I say ¡°menu¡±, but nothing happens, so I try ¡°status¡± Name: Trazyn Race: Human Class: N/A Sub-Class: N/A Hp: 10/10 Inventory: Map, (1/6) Equipment: N/A Status Effects: N/A Skills: 1 Recently Gained Skills: Inspect: a common skill used to get a description of an item, enemy, or more. Can also be used on status to get more information on things. Neat, I use inspect on everything, and thought up a quick summary: name is my name, race is my species, class is important, subclass is just a class, but worse, hp is my health, but also my levels? That is odd, but still pretty in line with what I know from reading. Inventory and equipment are what you would expect, status effects are things like being on fire, and skills are class/Sub-Class given abilities, and you can also get them through effort. I quickly realized that a class might be critically important for the future, and that I should try to get the best one possible as soon as possible. I decided I would try going for an artificer, which is a kind of magical blacksmith, or similar, focused on breaking the system. I also wanted a cool ¡°affinity¡±, as, in the books I read, the protagonist generally had a unique ability, such as gravity or something. I went with cosmic. I began meditating on what I thought I needed for my imagined class. ¡ª ¡ª ¡ª ¡ª ¡ª ¡ª Waking up, I stretch my arms and yawn. Blinking quickly to wake up. I open my eyes and stretch even harder and then suddenly, I feel it. My hand hit a tree. Why am I outside? I quickly snap to reality and realize that we aren''t in Kansas anymore. I brush my hair out of my eyes and stand up. I wipe off my clothes and look around. It''s a odd looking forest with no green in sight. The grass was dead, the trees dead, and the sky was gray. It''s also really cold, which makes me want to get out of here as soon as possible. It feels like I''m going to get snowed on any moment! I wander around the area and end up finding two people meditating for some reason. I try poking them to see if they respond, but the completely ignore it. ¡°Dang these crazy¡¯s are concentrated¡± I comment. I then notice that they are both wearing backpacks, so naturally, I try taking them. When you''re in the woods, every resource counts. However, when I try to take off one of their backpacks, it refuses to even budge. Confused, I reach back to see if I''m wearing a backpack, and I am. It pulls off easily, and I open it up. Inside is one thing. A map. I look at the map and find that I am in the middle of nowhere, and that the nearest city is like, 20 miles away, and the only thing in the way is forest and farmland! I also noticed that there is a large river spanning the whole area, a entire mountain range, and a large valley. Because of this, I decide to go to the city that''s closest, and I go north. I start walking for quite a while, until suddenly, I see green at last. The dead forest becomes a normal one! Deep meditation As soon as I sat down, everything turned silent. It was like the world was put on mute for a moment. I knew that I wanted to be a rogue, but the only issue was how. I decided to think about what a rogue meant to me. A rogue is a person of stealth, an assassin if you will, who would kill just for a quick paycheck. A rogue is a demon in close combat (while unseen), and has a mastery of every single one of their skills. A rogue is also an expert thief, who can steal anything as long as they have enough time and resources. That is what I thought a rogue was. After these thoughts, I thought about how much this class would give me and the potential it brought to my life. On this, I had little ideas. I needed to become a rogue to become as strong as possible in the shortest amount of time. Becoming a rogue would also give me a goal in this life, and a beacon to head towards. Another big reason to become a rogue is to become filthy rich, assuming there are other people in this world, which I assumed there were given that it was highly unlikely this was a game with no people. After a while of sitting in the void thinking, I asked myself, ¡°How did I get here?¡± While it may be the first thought most would have when waking up in a forest, I honestly hadn¡¯t even considered it until right now. My first thought was that I had been called here by gods to do their bidding, but I hadn''t spoken to any gods, nor do I think that I had any reason to have. That was when I realized. ¡°Is there actually literally no reason for me to be here?¡± then, all of a sudden, a system message popped up: Reason for being on this plane of existence: Your current line of thinking. Seriously? The system takes me from what I assumed to be a perfectly fine life, then throws me into the woods for 0 purpose whatsoever? That''s actually crazy. Shaking my head, I continued meditating on Rogues. Being a rogue is going to be awesome. After a while, I feel a pull back to the real world, and open my eyes. Unauthorized duplication: this tale has been taken without consent. Report sightings. ¡ª ¡ª ¡ª ¡ª ¡ª ¡ª Surprisingly, when I sat down to ¡°meditate¡± like that other guy was doing, the entire world became pitch black. I tried to stand up, and when I did, I looked down and saw myself. ¡°Well that''s freaky.¡± I mutter to myself, before I realize that no sound comes out. Everything is silent. Then I remember why I was here in the first place: becoming a cosmic artificer. What is an artificer? I ask myself. Haha, no I don¡¯t, that would be stupid. Instead, I think about how I can build a pickaxe, so I can go down. First, I would need some iron, twine and wood. This is important to keep everything together. Then, I need a phoenix core, which would be pretty simple to acquire, and make my pickaxe significantly higher quality. I''m also planning on getting some minions to help me mine faster. What else will I do? I could also make a thing to tell me my coordinates, and maybe even an orbital missile? That sounds simple enough. Hmmm. Perhaps body modification would be in the cards. ¡ª ¡ª ¡ª ¡ª ¡ª ¡ª I open my eyes to a brand new day and stand up. ¡°OW¡± I yell because DANG it was uncomfortable to sleep on the ground last night. I seriously needed to build some shelter. Since Shelter needs wood, I figured the first thing I need to do is get some serious wood. Since I don¡¯t have an axe, I need some other way to cut down trees. My first thought is to punch it like in minecraft. I start slamming my fists into a tree next to me for the entire first and second day, and even though it hurts an insane amount, I do manage to punch down one tree. However, now, it¡¯s just a log, which won¡¯t really help me. I definitely need an axe. I had spent the first half of the 3rd day looking for a good stone to make an axe with, when a thought struck me. I¡¯m not hungry? Not even thirsty? Am I immune to death by dehydration or starvation? I must be, since I didn¡¯t even feel parched. That is really weird. Anyhow, while I was thinking about this, I found a rock that looked surprisingly axe shaped. I went back to the tree I had cut down earlier and started carving a branch into a handle for my axe. This took the entire rest of the day. After I finished my axe, I went to sleep. ¡°WHY¡± I scream into the wilderness, when I wake up, soaking wet in the rain the next day. Miserable and cold, I go over to my handmade axe and grab it. Then, I get ready. Today, I planned on cutting down enough trees to make a log hut. I grasp my axe in a familiar position, and slam it into the nearest tree. After cutting it down, I grab it and trudge it back to my camp. I then go back to another tree, and slam my shoddily made axe into it. Surprisingly, the axe didn¡¯t actually break, and worked surprisingly well. It took about 45 minutes per tree, and I ended up with a pile of 21 trees. I went to sleep that day incredibly tired. Things are done for once I awaken from my meditation to find myself soaking wet and covered in flies. I open up my status: Name: Harry Race: Human Class: Rogue Sub-Class: N/A Hp: 10/10 Inventory: Wild Card, Map (2/6) Equipment: N/A Status Effects: N/A Skills: 3 Recently Gained Skills: Sneak Attack: A classic Rogue skill, that increases damage dealt by 30 (?) Stealth: prevents anyone from perceiving you when you are more than 20 feet away, or more than 10 feet away if mostly covered. (?) Nice! These new skills should hopefully help me out, and allow me to actually get food. I stand up and then immediately fall back down. Apparently, sitting too long makes it hard to stand. I stand up again, then steady myself with the tree I woke up on. While I was meditating, it clearly had rained, even if it wasn¡¯t right now. I walk around the tree and find that the elf has disappeared, and the other human had woken up and was also meditating, like I had. I didn¡¯t know how long I had been meditating, but it only felt like an hour or so, which was odd because it had rained? Weird. I then realize at this point that I am outside, and haven¡¯t been in any sort of shelter this entire time. In search of some kind of town, or maybe just a cave, I walk in a straight line in a random direction for the entire day. At some point while I was walking, I passed out, and fell asleep. When I woke up the next morning, I scouted the surroundings. I saw that it was a normal forest, not dead like the last one, and that it sounded great, because the birds were singing, and the sun was shining. I supposed I must have missed the transition the previous day due to the darkness. While I was looking, I felt something watching me. I quickly looked around, but didn¡¯t see anything. Then, I remembered something. Didn¡¯t my status say ¡°Inventory?¡± I quickly checked my pockets and felt around myself when I felt it. I was wearing a backpack??? SINCE WHEN?? I opened the backpack and, sure enough, there was a map in it. I quickly opened the map and looked for the nearest city. Since I wasn¡¯t really sure where I was, I checked the sun and faced north. I walked in that direction because there were two cities north, so I will likely run into one. This tale has been unlawfully obtained from Royal Road. If you discover it on Amazon, kindly report it. I continued walking in that direction for the rest of the day, and the next morning I realized something. ¡°I¡¯m¡ not hungry?¡± I hadn¡¯t needed or felt the need to eat or drink for the past few days. I chalk it up to weird video game magic and continue going. After 4 days of walking since I had awoken from meditation, I arrived at a town. Fortunately, I had successfully gone in the right direction, or I would have been lost in the forest for days. When I arrived, it was pitch black and nighttime, and I figured now was the perfect time to do some looting, if you know what I mean. I first went to the blacksmith, but unfortunately, the doors and windows were locked. Around the back, I found a stable, which was unlocked, and I entered. Inside was just a horse and its food, so I left. I then went to the next door neighbors and checked their doors. Also locked. I continued checking people¡¯s houses until, FINALLY, someone¡¯s backdoor was unlocked. I opened the door quietly and looked around for anything useful. Unfortunately This was their basement, and there was absolutely nothing of value here. At the time I had reached that conclusion, it was already really late, and so I left the house and went out to the woods to sleep in the grass. ¡ª ¡ª ¡ª ¡ª ¡ª ¡ª Alright, at this point, I¡¯ve been in this endless void for freaking 20 DAYS or something. It''s not like I have any marker of time, but it sure feels like too long! What, am I supposed to do something? I thought all I had to do was WAIT! Ok FINE I¡¯ll think about what a cosmic artificer is. It''s an artificer that makes things with cosmic energy! Ok DONE GET ME OUT OF HERE VOID!!! UGH. At this point, I¡¯ve been here for so long that I¡¯ve memorized the entirety of everything the system tells me! And I can¡¯t even yell because of the pure silence! ¡ª ¡ª ¡ª ¡ª ¡ª ¡ª Since I have an obscene amount of wood, I decided to build a little shack. I started with finding a good spot for it, and after a while, I found the perfect spot for it. It was a strangely flat stony area, and I figured it was the perfect place to build something. I spent a few hours lugging the logs over, and then I placed them into position next to the spot. I then started chopping off the branches and bark, which I saved to the side for potential firewood eventually, and shaved every one of the trees. I then put the 4 biggest ones in the corners facing upwards, as the pillars are to keep the shape. I then cut all of my other trees into the exact size between the pillars. I then spent a while using my axe onto the stone to cut out a small circle of the wooden base to be in. I used some mud to solidify it into place. I then used some more mud to fuse together another log in between two of the pillars, and did the same thing for the rest of the pillars. After waiting for it to solidify and dry, I stacked another log onto the walls, and used even more mud to keep it intact. I then kept doing this until the walls were finished. After that, I used some big leaves I had found to make the roof, and at last, the outside was finished. I then made a small bed with a lot of the leaves I had found, and chopped open a door. Then, the house was entirely finished. It had taken me four entire days to do this, but it was worth it. I was satisfied with the house, and knew that I could survive here in the wilderness. Especially since I didn¡¯t need food! The next day, I go into the woods and start collecting some grass to make into twine, for no reason other than it might be useful. I was thinking maybe I could knit it into a pillow or something? I¡¯m not entirely sure that''s how that works, but at this point, I am REALLY tired of sleeping on the literally rock hard ground. I spent the entire day doing just that. I ended up with a large pile of grass that I tried to make into twine. Awakening The next morning, I get up, and go back into town. Since it was daytime now, I walked up to someone and said ¡°Hi! I¡¯m a traveler, could you please direct me to the adventurer¡¯s guild?¡± He responds and says ¡°Of course! The adventurer¡¯s guild is 3 blocks that way.¡± He points to somewhere northeast. ¡°Are ya looking for some quests?¡± He asks jokingly. I respond with ¡°Something like that, yeah.¡± and then I start heading in that direction. After a few minutes of walking, I arrive at a large building that is clearly the adventurer¡¯s guild judging by the sheer amount of people pouring in and out of it. I push through the crowd, and arrive at the front desk. I ask ¡°How does adventuring work?¡± The lady at the desk replies ¡°You sign up for a quest to help out the locals, then you do that quest, and then you get money. It¡¯s pretty simple. You can also sign up to be an adventurer, but that is a competitive market, and you¡¯ll only really have a chance if you have a reputation with us beforehand.¡± ¡°Alright, well, are there any important quests to take right now?¡± I ask. ¡°There is one quest of critical importance.¡± The lady responds. ¡°What is it?¡± ¡°We need someone to investigate a local break-in that happened last night.¡± ¡°Really? Where?¡± She then proceeds to describe the exact place that I had entered through the unlocked door. ¡°How do you know someone broke in?¡± I ask. ¡°There was a trail of footprints leading to and from the door, and the door was left wide open. The weird thing is, nothing was actually taken, Just the carpet got muddy.¡± She responds, looking confused. ¡°Alrighty then, I would like to sign up for this quest! Also, how do parties work here?¡± I asked before I left. ¡°Simply high five someone and they join your party. If you slap them in the face, you kick them from your party, and if they slap YOU in the face, they leave the party. It¡¯s simple enough. Health distribution is given mostly to the party members who contributed the most. Rewards for quests are equally distributed between every party member." She says. "Alright, Thanks!¡± I say. Leaving the adventurer¡¯s guild, I start looking for people to party up with. I was looking for someone who wasn¡¯t too experienced at this sort of thing so that way I could still get the majority of the health (speaking of which, what did she mean by that? I would assume that you get experience to level up, which gives you more health, but the way she made it sound made me think otherwise) And I also wanted to find someone who looked trustworthy enough that if things got out of hand, they got my back. Looking right across the street from the adventurer¡¯s guild, there was a restaurant labeled ¡°The Partygoers Delight¡± which sounded like the kind of place where I might find someone to join my party. I walk in and a bell rings. I walk over to an empty table and start scouting people out. I quickly found 3 people who looked younger than me, and would hopefully be up to joining a party. After walking up and chatting with them, one of them named Tom said he would be fine with joining my party and helping me out with the quest. I give him a high-five and add him to the party. Tom added to party: Tom: Hp: 14/14 The narrative has been illicitly obtained; should you discover it on Amazon, report the violation. Dang. He has 14 hp, which feels kind of low, and there isn¡¯t mention of a level at all. This system is kind of weird. I get to know him, and then after a couple of hours of chatting, I go back to the plains and go to sleep on the familiar, at this point, mud. ¡ª ¡ª ¡ª ¡ª ¡ª ¡ª ¡°F***ing FINALLY I¡¯m out of that PRISON!¡± I yelled when I FINALLY awoke from meditation. While I was in that ETERNITY, I had thought a bit about how I wanted some minions, but it might be a lot harder than I expected. In order to get minions, I first needed to survive until I could find some. To do that, I needed some tools. But before anything else, I needed to check my newly gained skills: Name: Trazyn Race: Human Class: Cosmic Artificer Sub-Class: N/A Hp: 10/10 Inventory: Map, (1/6) Equipment: N/A Status Effects: N/A Skills: 3 Recently Gained Skills: Manasight: Allows you to see mana, allowing for more ease of enchantment and other mana-based creation. Inbunement: Infuse your mana into your creation, giving it one enchantment based on what it is. (?) Interesting. I think this imbuement will be quite useful, but since I don''t have any tools or anything to enchant, I first wanted to try out manasight. I used Inspect on the skill to figure out how to use it, and then tried it out. Woah. Everything wildly changed, and I saw wildly different colors. Everything had a tint of gray, but the ground was brown, and the sky was blue. The tree next to me was gray, but really bright. I looked at my hand. It was a dull green, dull gold, and the same bright gray as the tree. The fact that my hand was gray didn¡¯t feel very healthy, and I thought that maybe I should leave the area. I started walking in a random direction and looked for a river, and I turned my manasight off. After a few hours of walking, I found a river at the very edge of the dead forest. Beyond the river was a normal forest that wasn¡¯t gray at all. I swam over to the other side and felt much better. It was almost like that gray was like a disease or something. I decided to be wary of that area in the future. I then spent a few more hours that night collecting a bunch of mud bricks and preparing them for the future. I did need a kiln for my plans, after all. I then fell asleep on the ground next to the kiln. ¡ª ¡ª ¡ª ¡ª ¡ª ¡ª I woke up that morning after making all of the twine, and decided that today I would strengthen my axe, and maybe even make another, just in case. The old axe was almost shattered at this point, and I was honestly very surprised to find that the axe was still intact. I started by replacing the stone I had on my axe, and I spent a solid hour looking for 2 perfect rocks, but only ended up finding one. It felt strangely heavy, but I ignored that. It felt like there were some chunks of metal in it, so I assumed that was why it was so heavy. I cut the axe head to fit the new rock, which took another 2 hours. Then, I used over half of my twine to make sure the new axehead never flew off. I also added some twine to the handle to make it grip better, so that it would be harder for me to accidentally send it flying while chopping a tree. I then spent the rest of the day carving another handle for something I can make later. Maybe a shovel? Arson I wake up the next day and go over to the adventurer¡¯s guild to wait for Tytus. After a few moments of waiting, He arrives and says hi. I say hello back and ask if we should head over to the scene of the crime. He agrees and we both start heading over to the house. As I see the house, I realize that it is the same house that I went into a couple of days ago. Trying to ignore it, we walk up to the door and knock. A man and a woman answer the door, presumably the two who own the house. For some reason, they look at me weirdly. I have no idea why. They ask ¡°Hi, what are you here for?¡± I respond with ¡°We¡¯re here from the adventurer¡¯s guild about a quest for a break in that happened recently?¡± ¡°Oh yeah, I forgot about that quest. They broke in last night through the basement door. We aren''t sure if they stole anything because it is really messy down there, especially more since that maniac muddied up the whole carpet. ¡°Are you two ok?¡± My partner Tytus asked. ¡°Yes, the second we heard them, we locked the door. They didn¡¯t make it up here.¡± ¡°You heard them?¡± ¡°Yes, we were up late that night playing poker with some friends.¡± ¡°Alright, thank you for your time.¡± We then leave the house and I tell Tytus I had to meet up with someone. I left the area, then went to a nearby alley looking for people to pin the break in on. I found a homeless guy who looked kind of mean, and offered him my boots. He gratefully accepted. That''s when I arrested him for the break in, and brought him to the adventurer¡¯s guild. They took him and gave me 100$ for helping out. That night, I bought some new shoes for 30$, and spent another 20$ on an inn room for the night. The next morning, I went over to the blacksmith and purchased a dagger for 35$. I then go into the woods and sneak around the wildlife to try to level up my stealth skill. I spend 3 entire days in the woods doing this, sleeping in the mud, as per usual. I had also decided to kill any monsters I saw that I thought I could one-shot with sneak attack. I killed a few monsters, and when I did, I saw something in the corner of my vision. Rabbit: level 0.3 defeated! +1 hp I ended up gaining 5 entire health from killing the rabbits. At some point during the hunt, there was a lot of smoke in the direction I had come from, which was concerning, but I soon forgot about it. After the three days had ended, I checked my status sheet: This tale has been unlawfully obtained from Royal Road. If you discover it on Amazon, kindly report it. Name: Harry Race: Human Class: Rogue Sub-Class: N/A Hp: 15/15 Inventory: Wild Card, Map, 10$ bill, 5$ bill (4/6) Equipment: dagger Status Effects: N/A Skills: 3 Recently Gained Skills: N/A Unlike before, the skill wasn¡¯t under recently gained skills, which i supposed makes sense because I had already had it. I use inspect on my skills and get a list of my skills, without descriptions. I then inspected stealth, and got this description; Advanced Stealth: Prevents anyone from perceiving you unless actively looking for you or if you are touching them. Does not work against people over 20 levels ahead of you. This is incredibly useful, and I immediately activated it and decided to keep it on essentially always. ¡ª ¡ª ¡ª ¡ª ¡ª ¡ª I woke up the next morning determined to create something. I spent a few minutes collecting the mud bricks I had prepared the night before. I then started laying them out in a small circle and created a kiln. That most of the day, and the rest of the day I spent collecting some sticks for fuel in the future. The next day I spent looking for a cave to find some kind of iron-based mineral. After quite a few hours of searching, I find it, and I look through the entrance and quickly find some pyrite, which does have some iron in it. I tried to break it off with my bare hands, which clearly didn''t work because it is a rock connected to more rock. I left the cave and went back to my kiln and fell asleep. The next day, I realized that I didn¡¯t like that weird dead forest that was near my kiln, and I decided to chuck a torch at it. I throw some fire from my kiln at the forest and watch as it goes up in flames. Suddenly, however, a thick gray smoke comes out of the trees. Concerned, I dive into the river and hold my breath, letting the current take me away. I wake up on the shore coughing and wheezing, and I spot a small shack made out of mud and logs. I quickly ran upstream to get away from it, because ugh people. After a few hours of walking, I arrived back at my kiln and found that the fire had gone out. After looking at the wreckage, I found that about a third of the forest was burned down. I go to sleep, and then wake up the next morning and burn it again, avoiding the smoke. After another day, The dead forest was finally completely burned down. The next day, I opened my eyes and immediately got to work. If I wanted to get that pyrite from earlier, I needed a tool. I went to the river and started harvesting some clay, then I moulded it into just the right shape for a pickaxe head. I chucked it into my kiln and waited. And waited. And waited. Finally, it was done, I pulled it out of the kiln and fell asleep. ¡ª ¡ª ¡ª ¡ª ¡ª ¡ª I woke up and cut down trees the entire day. The next day, I started building a second house like my first one, and, after a few days, had a second house. I did this for literally no reason, other than that I felt like it. I decided that I would try to make an entire town by myself, for no reason other than I have a lot of free time due to the lack of need for food or water. After I finished the 2nd house, I chopped down more trees and started on a third. I won¡¯t bore you with the details. After another day, I finished the third house at last. First combat (#1) I open my eyes in the mud and stand up. It seems it had rain last night while I was asleep. I walk over to the town and go straight to the adventurer¡¯s guild. There wasn¡¯t that much of a crowd, so I walked straight up to the desk and rang the bell. ¡°Ding!¡± After a short while, the same woman from last time came over. Strangely, she looked confused like she thought that nobody was there. It was then that I realized that I was still using my skill. I deactivated it, and said hello. She jumped back in surprise, and asks in a shaky voice; ¡°He-hello there adventurer! What can I do for you today? May I ask why you''re soaking wet?¡± Ignoring that remark, I ask ¡°What are some quests that I could take?¡± She responds with the following: ¡°There are quite a few quests sir! First is to clear the area from those pesky monsters. There aren''t that many, but SOMEBODY-¡± She looks clearly at a guard in the corner of the room ¡°Fell asleep during their shift at the dungeon, and about 13 or so escaped. They are still dangerous and need to be gotten rid of, however.¡± I start to accept the quest before she cuts me off. ¡°Before I can give you this quest, I need to know what your level is.¡± I answer back ¡°My level is 1¡± She looks even more annoyed about that. ¡°I highly recommend not doing this quest then, because the recommended level is 10! You should do another quest first. Lets see here what are the other quests¡¡± She starts flipping through a few papers on her desk before muttering ¡°that can¡¯t be right! No, not that one.¡± After a few minutes, she looks up at me. ¡°Alright, well, The only thing I can recommend to you is to kill some wildlife, because all of the current quests are significantly higher leveled then the first, and are essenti-l.¡± I cut her off and accepted the monster killing quest anyway. I leave the adventurer¡¯s guild and consult my map. It seems there is quite a bit of woodland around the city anyway, and a few farms. Since she didn¡¯t mention any farmland issues, I assume the monsters steered clear of them. Who knows, maybe farmers are secretly the strongest people in this world. I decided to go north, as that went fine for me previously. After a few minutes of travel, I arrived at the edge of town. I continued going for about 10 minutes, at which point I started looking closer for the monsters. After an excruciatingly long time, I finally found an interesting looking rabbit. It had some weirdly red eyes, So I used inspect on it. Rabbit: 28/28 (dungeon-infused) Well It is clearly from the dungeon, so I figured it would count for my quest. I remembered my skill sneak attack and, since that adds 30 damage to my attacks, I figured I could one-shot it. This hypothesis turned out to be true. I walked up to it and slapped it, and it instantly died. ¡°Well that was underwhelming¡± I mutter under my breath. 3 hp gained! I decide to use the corpse as bait, and go hide behind a bush. After about 10 minutes of waiting, I was bored out of my mind and decided to use inspect on my status. It was mostly what you would think. Class is what my skills are based on, my name is my name, my sub-class is a second class that is worse, hp is my health, inventory is stuff I have in my backpack- The author''s content has been appropriated; report any instances of this story on Amazon. Wait What is a wild card? When did I get one? I quickly use inspect on it to get some info. WILD CARD: The rarest item in the world, it can do almost anything. Simply hold it out and say one word to describe what you want, while thinking what you really want. These are almost exclusively given for deeds in past lives or as system-given rewards for big events. So clearly, I did something big in a previous life, which gave me a wild card. Unfortunately, I had no ideas on what to use it on. I decided to save it for later. Jolting back to reality from my thoughts, I hear something rustle a bush. I spot a small orange crab with red eyes eyeing the corpse. A target! I rush in and stab it with my dagger for a sneak attack. I then turn around and jump up to a nearby tree. I grab onto it, but fail to climb up. I fall down and take damage. While I was down, the crab pinched me really hard. I check status for my HP. 13/18. It''s not as bad as I thought, and I quickly use inspect on the crab. Crab: 7/45 It''s low! I quickly stab it again with my dagger, killing it. 12 hp gained! After that battle, I realized something. I need better mobility. If that crab was more dangerous than it was, I might have died there, simply because I failed to get up the tree. After a long time of pondering, I decided something. I decided to use my wild card for mobility. I pull off my backpack and look through it. I found my map, my money and it. It looks just like a joker from a regular deck of cards, but it has a special shine to it that instantly makes it recognizable as valuable. I grab it out and put my backpack back on. Man, that backpack is so light I forget it''s there. I hold the card in front of me and say ¡°Acrobatics¡± While thinking that a few skills to help me out would be great. The entire area is bathed in an orange light. After a few seconds, the light disappears, but I feel improved. I open up my status to see the new skills. Name: Harry Race: Human Class: Rogue Sub-Class: N/A Hp: 40/40 Inventory: Map, 10$ bill, 5$ bill (3/6) Equipment: dagger Status Effects: N/A Skills: 8 Recently Gained Skills: Acrobatics mastery: allows you to climb anything smaller than 50 ft. Also increases movement speed to allow 2 tile movements every day. Acrobatic flip: flip over an enemy while they are attacking you, dealing 10 dmg in retaliation and dodging the attack. Zig-zag: allows dodging of bullets and other fast moving projectiles or spells. Mildly confuses the enemy, making any attack they do next deal 5 less damage. Jump: allows a jump height of 10 ft "abnormal" -Me Swift escape: can dash out of the enemies sight and hide from them or just exit combat entirely. Odd. That doesn¡¯t math! I had 15 hp, but then I gained 3, and then 12. That''s only 30! Did I get extra health from the wild card also? But more importantly, DANG, these skills are impressive. This is going to massively increase my agility and safety. Also, another thought. Who the heck is this ¡°Me¡± guy? Is that like, a god or developer who is so self centered that they think they need to be called ¡°Me?¡± I went to sleep that day mostly satisfied, but a little bit annoyed at ¡°Me.¡± ¡ª ¡ª ¡ª ¡ª ¡ª ¡ª I wake up in the morning and, after a bit of actually ¡°Waking¡± up, I stand up and check out my finished pick head. It looked quite sturdy, so I spent a few moments looking for a suitable handle for my creation. I grab a stick and use the pickaxe head to chop off all the unneeded branches, and while it doesn''t work WELL, it still works enough. I then put it in the hole I prepared in the head for this exact purpose. I then use mud to fill in the gaps, and put it over the kiln to dry the mud. It works pretty well. I then went over to that cave I had found before the arson, and found the pyrite again. I then used my brand new pick to break off a few chunks of pyrite, putting them into my backpack. After I had collected 5, It was clearly too full to fit another one, so I grabbed another and held it in my hands. I went back to the kiln and dropped the pyrite and pick I was holding. By that point, it was quite late, but before I went to sleep, I made a spoon to separate out the iron from the rest of the pyrite. This took the whole night, and right after I put it into the kiln, I fell asleep. ¡ª ¡ª ¡ª ¡ª ¡ª ¡ª I wake up the morning after I finished the third house, and then I chop a bunch of trees. Then I go to sleep. The blacksmith I wander through the woods once again, looking for more targets. After a while, I found a path. I pick a direction and walk. The forest is lovely, and the sun is shining brightly. The birds were singing, the frogs were croaking. I kept walking until I arrived at an intersection. I opened my map and noticed something new. The map had updated overnight, and it now had a compass inside it. Interesting. I could either go further north, west, or east. I chose to go west, and shortly after going this way, I found another rabbit, similar to the previous one. I insta-kill it with sneak attack, then turn around, and start going east, following a gut feeling I had. I quickly found yet another rabbit, which I also insta-killed. I then went back to the intersection and went north. After an hour or so of walking, I encountered a boar. Boar: 77/77 Oh dang, that''s a lot of health. I sneak up behind it and use sneak attack, which deals 41 damage, and then I step back. The boar glares at me menacingly, leaving me standing there confused. I stab it, then all of a sudden, It runs towards me super fast, hitting me for 15 dmg. I stab it again, and prepare to use flip in case it attacks. It tries to slam it¡¯s tusks into me, but I flip over it and snap the boar¡¯s neck. +30 hp Nice. I pull out my map and notice something. The map was tiled, with different segments of woods. However, The tile I was on, one of the more northern forest tiles, had a 5/5 symbol in the corner. I also noticed that each of the tiles I had been too had numbers in their corner, seemingly showing the days I had been there. There was also a flap on the side, which I unfurled, and it showed the day number and my quest. The quest showed that I had killed 5 of the monsters. All of this stuff was new and was not there last time I opened the map. Strange. I fell asleep. When I got up, I started working on upgrading my sneak attack, and, similar to how I upgraded my stealth, I ambushed a bunch of random wild animals. It took quite a while for me to finish this. ¡ª ¡ª ¡ª ¡ª ¡ª ¡ª I woke up that morning and got out some clay. I make a crucible, a box, and a clamp, and a bucket on a stick, the crucible helping me make the pyrite into a stronger Iron. I use my kiln to make some charcoal, then crush and mix 4 of my chunks of pyrite into the crucible, and heat it up with my kiln. This process combines the pyrite and charcoal, which makes it stronger. During this process, I also make a mold for a pickaxe, using some sand from the river, my clay pickaxe I already had, and the box I made earlier. I use my bucket to remove the impurities from the crucible, and then use my clamp to grab the crucible. I then pour the iron mixture into the mold and wait. The whole process of the creation and all of that takes up a long time, and I open the box and get my brand new iron pickaxe. He literally said, quote, ¡°I take my whole set up everything and move into that house down the river(refuse to agnolage¡± (yes, he did spell acknowledge wrong, and no, the grammar doesn¡¯t make sense) ¡°how it why I move there don¡¯t even mention there being a reason)¡± Canonically, Frog has literally no idea that sand had a base in that area at al- wait. When he set the forest on fire, he DID see her shack¡. I could work with that¡ \/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/ On a whim, I decide to go back upstream with my entire set-up, and go back to that cabin in the woods I found earlier. After a while of walking, I spotted the shack, and it had 2 more small houses around it. Conveniently, one of the houses just so happened to already be made out of stone and looks like it is MEANT to be my blacksmith. I place down my stuff and pass out. ¡ª ¡ª ¡ª ¡ª ¡ª ¡ª I wake up the next morning after finishing my 3rd house, and I look around in the woods for a long while, since I really had nothing to do. I found a cave and looked around in it, but unfortunately, it had nothing but a few minerals I couldn¡¯t mine. If only I could get some of that gold-like thingie I thought. I left the cave, and the next day, I went on a lovely walk in the woods. It was a beautiful day, the sun was shining, and everything was grand. I saw a bird who was whistling a nice song, and I hummed along to it for a while. The next day, I had an idea. I should turn one of my extra houses into a blacksmith or something! I could learn how to make tools, and then sell them at the town I saw on the map. There was even that cave nearby I could use for materials! The real only problem was that I had no idea how to harvest those materials, or how to do anything blacksmith-related whatsoever. Oh well! That''s a problem for future me! I start by adding a layer of flat stones on the walls, to help make it more fireproof. I use some clay I got from the nearby river to fill in the gaps. I also make a lovely tiled floor with more rocks. Fortunately, the river was rocky, so I didn¡¯t need to look far. I found a few rocks that fit together to make an almost perfect stone table, so I brought those into the room. Lovely! After a long long time and several days, I finally finished the blacksmith. I went to bed that day earlier than normal because I was so exhausted due to all the work I spent on it. Goblins Goblins Goblins! After the next few days, I finished upgrading sneak attack. The new description was as follows: Sneak Attack: A classic Rogue skill, that increases damage dealt by 10% of an opponent¡¯s health, or 100 damage, whichever is higher (?) Impressive. This skill sounds utterly broken, and yet there is still another tier above it? That is kind of insane, but at least I have it! Afterwards, I checked my map once again to check my quest progress. I had killed all of the monsters in this tile, so I decided to go north. After all, this is where my map ended, and I was curious to see what would happen if I went past it. I started walking north. And walking. Finally, I saw something. It was a strange shimmer in the air. I decided to keep going, and after a while, I slammed into it with the force of a thousand suns, and shattered my nose -4 HP Well no duh system, geez. Stumbling over, I quickly used my shirt to absorb some of the blood. Unfortunately, I¡¯m no medical expert, so I have no idea what I¡¯m supposed to do when my nose is broken, so I do what I normally do when I get a bloody nose, and stick a cloth in it, hoping to stop the bleeding. Well that sucked, I thought as I sat there, trying to withstand the pain. I then started heading west, In hopes I could find some more high-leveled opponents. After a few hours of wandering through the forest, I noticed something. My nose felt fine! I quickly checked my status sheet and found my hp back at full. It seems my natural regen was quite high, huh? Shortly after this discovery, I found a deer with red eyes, clearly one of my targets. I sneak attack it for 102 damage, then it stands there, seemingly trying to guilt me out of attacking it. Fortunately, nothing actually happened, so I stabbed it, and killed it. +47 hp I check my map and realize that that was the only monster in this part of the woods, so I decide to go south, towards a farm. The next day, I began my journey south, and, after a long while of walking, arrived. Once I arrived there, I asked the farmer if I could help him out with today, but strangely, he just chuckled and politely said no. I decide to go west, where I encounter a boar, which I instakilled, and got 2 hp from. I then travelled north, and found a shabby village. The village had a few small houses made out of mud. The strangest thing about this village was that I heard some kind of singing and dancing going on inside one of the huts. I started walking closer to the noise, when a bunch of small green¡ Goblins. Ok this is definitely a video game. Anyhow, the goblins jumped out of the door, and started shaking their hands facing a seemingly random direction. What the actual heck. Were those goblins just doing a musical number?? Just after like, 5 seconds of hand shaking, like 25 of them just started leaving. The other 5 just started yapping in a language I don¡¯t know. What is wrong with this world? I start looking around the town and trying to find out the exact population of the town, and realize there are only ~35 goblins in this village. So more than 80% of the total town was at that musical. I shiver at the thought. I decide that I will deal with this problem in the morning, and I go to bed in the woods. The next day, I looked for a goblin with no one around, so I could get a good gauge on how strong the goblin village was. I found the goblin I was looking for pretty fast, and I quickly sneak attacked it. I dealt 103 damage, and in retaliation, the goblin hit me for 18 damage. I then realized that if i could re enter stealth, I could easily kill him. I hide behind a building to regain my bonus, and then follow the goblin until the sneak attack is completely refreshed. I sneak attack him again for 100 damage, and then stealth once more. Unfortunately, the goblin rushed to the nearest healer goblin, and started healing, so I slaughtered the healer and reentered stealth. The goblin, terrified, ran out of the shack after seeing that, and freaking hired a friend to keep an eye on him while he recovers. They went to an open field in order to see me when I was coming. In an attempt to distract the guard while I finished the goblin off, I threw my 5$ on the ground near him to try to get him to move. I watched in great annoyance as the goblin went over and picked up the money, while watching, without giving me an opening. I try to sneak attack anyway, but sadly, the goblin saw me, and I don¡¯t get my sneak attack bonus, but I still do 51 damage with 2 stabs. The guard then attacked me, and I used swift escape to get away, because I was really low. Afterwards, I heal to get back to maximum HP. The next day, I go back to the village and see two goblin children by a nearby river. I stab one of them and toss the younger one in the river, gaining 5 maximum hp in the process. I hid the other corpse in the river as well. ¡ª ¡ª ¡ª ¡ª ¡ª ¡ª The next morning after arriving at the building, I noticed a perfectly flat table, that would be perfect for a few smithing supplies. I put my kiln in the corner, and start making a more proper forge in the corner. I go outside only to, to my surprise, find the elf I had seen back at the weird forest before I burned it down. A case of literary theft: this tale is not rightfully on Amazon; if you see it, report the violation. (Ehhehehhe.) I look at her, and think why the heck would you go through all this physical effort to build 3 whole houses, but not have a building-related class? I realize that she might not know about the system, so I tell her ¡°Say the word system¡±. Satisfied, I walk away to find some smooth rocks for a forge. I hear her mumbling ¡°system¡± as I walk away. Anyhow, I found some rocks and made a small area to set on fire in the house. The next day, I decided I would put that project on hold until I had a hammer to actually make my tools into shape. I make a mold for a smithing hammer, and then use my remaining iron (pyrite) to make it. After that, I went into the woods to find a cave, and looked for some Novaculite, a rock commonly used as a whetstone, and quickly found a small chunk of it, which I grabbed. The next day, I decided to make some golems. I knew from some past DnD knowledge, that a golem is like a bunch of mud with magic in it, so I attempt to make a mana manipulation skill. It takes the entire day to figure it out, but I succeed. Mana manipulation (basic): Allows the creation of golems, and allows limited usage of mana outside of body, and increases effectiveness of inside-body mana usage. Upgradeable The next day, I decide to make some kind of quest board, to tell that other person who lives here to get me stuff. I use some wood and a chunk of charcoal I used in my forge and write a simple message: MONSTER CORES: 1 set of armor I spend the rest of the day learning how to make golems, and end up making three of them. It turns out the trick is to use mana manipulation on a bunch of mud, you don¡¯t need to sculpt a humanoid form or anything, which I learned the hard way after spending a total of 2 hours trying to make a perfect humanoid mud blob. Oh well. ¡ª ¡ª ¡ª ¡ª ¡ª ¡ª I wake the next morning feeling wonderful. I leave my hut to go on a walk, or something of that sort, and quickly realize that something is off. I look through the house and the blacksmith and notice somebody face down, passed out on the floor. Unnerved, I stumble backwards and start slowly backing away. I leave the village to go on a walk, hoping that that guy would leave. Thankfully, It was a nice day, and there were no issues during my walk around the forest. I steel myself for the daunting task of having to deal with that guy who was in the blacksmith. As I enter the clearing where I built the huts, The guy walks up to me and says four words. ¡°Say the word system¡± Um¡ okay? I do what the stranger says and say the word ¡°system,¡± but nothing happens. That was strange. Confused, I went back to my house and sat down. I pull out my map, and think that maybe I should go to the town and get some kind of professionally made tools. I start walking that direction. About halfway through the journey, I stumble across a river, and fortunately, there is a bridge nearby, which I can use to cross. I arrive at town the next day, after having had to sleep on the freaking ground overnight. Ugh. Now in the town, I ask a civilian to tell me about the ¡°system,¡± still being confused about what that guy said earlier. They then start yapping about how if you say the word status, you get an accurate description of quite a few boring nonsense. Curious, I say it. Name: Stelle Race: Elf Class: N/A Sub-Class: N/A Hp: 10/10 Inventory: Map, ? Equipment: Rudimentary axe (fragile) Status Effects: N/A Skills: 2 Recently Gained Skills: Inspect: a common skill used to get a description of an item, enemy, or more. Can also be used on status to get more information on things. Precise Cut: Allows for cutting or carving you do to be surprisingly accurate, even if you have poor tools for the situation (?) Well that skill is probably why my axe worked so well. I had a brief mental breakdown as I realized that I was probably not on earth anymore, and¨C WAIT. SINCE WHEN WAS I AN ELF????? At least my name was still normal, but it was crazy that I¡¯m for sure not on earth anymore. I wonder if those other people I saw at the tree when I woke up are also from earth. I asked the civilian who was looking at me quite oddly this whole time if there were any buildings of note. She said ¡°Yeah, we have three key buildings. There¡¯s an adventurer¡¯s guild, a general store, and a blacksmith.¡± First off, what the heck is the ¡°adventurer¡¯s guild?¡± I asked the civilian where this ¡°adventurer¡¯s guild" was, and headed that way. Arriving at the building, I spot a board with a bunch of papers on it. There was a little stamp on each one saying ¡°Recommended level.¡± Looking at all the levels, I realize that I have no idea what my level is, so I am probably at level one. This is probably like a video game, and me leveling up will increase my hp, and 10 feels like a starting point for that. Deeming myself too low level, I leave the guild. I clearly need experience, and, having played a lot of minecraft, this is most easily done by killing monsters. I walk south from the town, and look for monsters. I assume they will be easily distinct from wildlife, and I find a rabbit that has red eyes. Well that¡¯s freaky. I walk up to it, and due to not having a weapon, punch it in the face really hard. The rabbit, looking made, bites me. 1 damage taken! Well that''s probably not ideal. I remember I have an axe, so I grab it, and swing it at the rabbit. The rabbit bites me again, which deals 2 damage. I use my axe and swing a lethal blow, aiming for its head. 6 HP gained! That''s odd. I gained Hp, and not Xp? Quickly checking my status, I find my hp stat being 13/16. Interesting. I start walking home, going the way I came. Finally arriving at home, I passed out on the ¡°bed.¡± The next few days are spent making some sheets of really bad paper, because writing is a hobby of mine, and a wooden pickaxe, because if minecraft ever told me anything, its that wood is durable enough to break stone.
