《The Game Of The Gods (old)》 Chapter 1: The Beta Test *Ding*
Welcome Elena! You have been chosen as one of TWO MILLION people on the planet Earth, to participate in the beta test for The Game Of The Gods. This game includes a non-disclosure agreement which has been automatically signed by you! As a beta tester, you have the right to The Tutorial. Would you like to take it? [Yes] [Remind Me In An Hour] [No]
I wake up feeling exhausted, as usual. But something feels different this morning, and I can¡¯t quite put my finger on it.... Oh, that¡¯s right, today is a Saturday, I was planning on sleeping in. Hmm? A tutorial? Remind me in an hour. My eyes open wide as I realize what was sitting in front of my face. I rub my eyes, double checking my vision. The screen still sits in front of me. It looks like in my half-asleep state, I hadn¡¯t actually pressed the [Remind Me In An Hour] button. Has it finally happened? Have I actually gone insane? Or is the fact that I am questioning my sanity proving me sane? Shit. I hate when extradimensional blue screens make me question my sense of reality. I stare at the blue screen in front of me, considering my options. Fact number one; there is a giant blue screen in front of my face. Fact number two; It is asking me if I want to take a tutorial. Fact number three; I¡¯m not doing anything today, what do I have to lose? ¡ Did I just jinx myself? I hate the idea of jinxes. Besides, I would like some answers and tutorials are well known for giving those. Here I go. I lift up my hand slowly, pausing for only a moment before shrugging and pressing [Yes].
Thank you for deciding to take the tutorial! During the tutorial you have unlimited lives, but you get a prize if you make it through without dying more than twice! Also, feel free to report any bugs that you find using the command [Tutorial Report] and then tell us your problem. As you start the tutorial please choose a weapon off of the wall. Thanks for your support and please look forward to the big release date in one- or two-years¡¯ time (liable to change).
Wait. I get a prize if I don¡¯t die more than twice¡. Are they expecting me to die? Well shit, I don¡¯t know about the other voices in my head, but I really don¡¯t like dying. As my mind goes through its usual weirdness, a bright light surrounds me and I notice a drastic change in scenery. I find myself inside a large white hallway. On the walls of the hallway lay racks of strange weapons. Y¡¯know, fantasy stuff, swords, axes, the whole deal. So I¡¯m in a fantasy game, that¡¯s cool. ¡°What the fuck is happening?¡± I ask the air. You¡¯ve finally gone fully insane. A feminine voice echoes through my head. I ignore her, she just likes to be grumpy. You always knew it was coming. I turn my head to look both ways down the hallway. Unfortunately the landscape stays exactly the same; a white hallway that has endless racks of weapons. This is only slightly weird First things first, I read through the blue window again, then swipe it to the side to get rid of it. I know what the blue screen wants me to do, but I should know better than to listen to voices in my head. Still, I look at one of the walls and follow it looking for something that would suit me. I¡¯ve never had a hallucination like this one, might as well see where it leads. Or am I dreaming? Nah. Eventually my gaze lands on something that makes me sigh with annoyance. A shot-gun. How in the world would somebody wielding the dagger sitting next to the gun, stand up to someone with a shotgun? I sight loudly, putting as much of my annoyance as I can into it. ¡°[Tutorial Report], Excuse me, my godly overlords, but having guns seems stupidly unbalanced when compared to all the medieval weaponry lying around.¡± I pause, then shrug when nobody responded. It was worth a try. I had hoped that when I reported the problem, whoever was in charge would get rid of them. I can wield a dagger just fine, y¡¯know? I got the whole slashy slashy bit down. But I¡¯ve never even touched a gun, let alone fired one. So if someone walked up to me with a gun, I might be the tiniest bit screwed. Oh well, dying might be an interesting experience anyway. I am not averse to the idea of killing if it was needed, after all, my father is an emergency room doctor. I¡¯ve seen the terrible things people can do to other people. I shake my head, saving that thought for later as I continue to look at the weapons lying on the rack in front of me. So I''m supposed to choose a weapon right? My gaze lingers on the shot-gun. I must admit, I can see myself as a gun toting cow-girl. Or an insane gun wielding murderer. Potato-potato. I''d just have to learn how to shoot a gun. That can''t be too hard, right? A blue window pops up, interrupting my thoughts.
Thank you for your report! While we do agree that guns can be powerful, the weapons at your disposal have been balanced so that they are at the same level or in most cases, even more powerful than your average gun. So, don¡¯t let your ideas of guns affect your choice in any way!
After reading the window, I shrug. There went my idea of being a gun-toting cow-girl. That''s too bad, I was looking forward to all of the bar-fights I could have stopped while chewing some long piece of grass. "You boys itching for a fight?" I chew on an imaginary piece of grass as I put my hands above the pretend guns at my waist in a casual cow-girl style. I giggle to myself as I drop the charade. My eyes catch on something to the side, and I walk over there curiously. A pair of lace gloves lay on the rack in front of me, there was nothing overtly special about them, they just¡ felt right. It is kinda strange actually, something about them just seems to call to me. This book is hosted on another platform. Read the official version and support the author''s work. Well, you only live once! I pick the gloves up and put them on my hands, stretching my fingers comfortably once they are on. I smile as the world shifts around me. I find myself in a grassy plain with rolling hills. I turn to look as a sun, not so un-similar to the one on earth, slowly sets over the horizon. The wind blows through the grass making it lean away from me, my hair bending lightly with the wind. ¡°Hello.¡± Someone says from behind me. I freeze in surprise for a second. I haven¡¯t heard this voice before. This one sounds more real than the ones usually bouncing around in my brain. I turn around slowly to look at the person who had talked to me. She is a woman with gray hair, blue eyes, and a young-looking face. It is strange actually, how her eyes look so much older than her face. Whoever she is, I like her already, something about the grandmotherly feel she gives off. We both study each other for a second before I break the silence by saying, ¡°Hello... who are you? And are you real?¡± She looks taken aback for a moment, before responding. ¡°I am your instructor. My name is Sheyla, and I am as real as you are.¡± she makes a small half bow towards me, ¡°would you give me the pleasure of having your name?¡± She says in a formal tone of voice. How real are you? That feminine voice asks. I ignore her again. Not knowing what Sheyla is expecting of me, I give her a small curtsy. Watching so many fantasy movies has its perks, I give a beautiful curtsy if I do say so myself. ¡°My name is Elena.¡± Sheyla¡¯s POV I watch my new student as she arrives in my domain. She is wearing a thin night dress with sunflower patches sewn all across the back, I stand there observing her as she watches the sun slowly set. Before we lose too much of our light, I call out to her. ¡°Hello.¡± Startled by me, she freezes, after a moment, she turns around to stare at me curiously. I pause for a second startled by her beauty. Her body, while not overly muscular, shows signs that it has experienced plenty of exercise. I study her figure curiously, noting her strange ethereal beauty. My eyes look up to study her face, with a small nose, green eyes and long brown hair flowing slightly past her shoulders, I can¡¯t help but gulp ever so slightly. It isn¡¯t even her beauty that gives me pause, I have seen many beautiful beings. No, it is a strange light that surrounds her that catches me off-guard. Lost in her own appraisal of me, she seems to not have noticed my momentary speechlessness. ¡°Hello... who are you? Are you real?¡± She knocks me out of my reverie with those words and I pause for a second, surprised by her second question. It seems that I will have an interesting student. I bow to her formally, introducing myself. Elena¡¯s POV After rising from my curtsy, I watch as Sheyla waves her hand in the air, seemingly motioning at nothing. I look more closely at where she motioned. A table with a kettle of tea on it and two chairs on either side appears. The strange woman motions for me to sit down. Our young heroine encounters a strange woman who can make things appear from thin air. The strange woman who calls herself ¡°Sheyla¡± tells the young heroine that she is her ¡®Instructor¡¯. What will our intrepid heroine do next? Find out next time on- I stop the voice in my head before it decides to cut to commercial. Taking a deep breath, I mentally apologize to myself for zoning out. I guess this is how my mind copes with odd situations. I wonder what a psychologist would make of that? They always make the funniest assumptions when dealing with me. ¡°Hello? Did I freak you out? I sometimes forget what it must be like, your first time, experiencing all these new things, I apologize.¡± Sheyla¡¯s words knock me back to my senses. ¡°No, no, it¡¯s alright, I was just a little shocked, that is all.¡± I smile at her hoping to smooth over my momentary thoughtlessness. I sit down in the chair across from her, and smooth out the wrinkles in my night dress. ¡°So, you say that you are my instructor? What exactly are you instructing me on?¡± Sheyla sits down her chair and considers my question. ¡°Well, a lot of things actually.¡± She adjusts her position before continuing, ¡°How do I put this¡?¡± She pours herself a cup of the tea that was sitting on the counter, ¡°Your planet is not the first to experience these changes and I very much doubt it will be the last.¡± She takes a sip of her tea, pausing her explanation. ¡°Unfortunately, not every planet is as resilient as I hope your planet to be. Some don¡¯t even make it through the beta stages without all the beta players dying. That is why I, and other teachers like me, are here. Our job is to make sure that you live as long as possible and survive the tragedies that the gods are about to throw down upon you-¡° ¡°Our job? And when you say gods¡ Who- or should I say what are you? You made these things appear out of thin air¡ Are you one of the gods that you are talking about?¡± I tilt my head questioningly. ¡°Me? A god? I can say confidently that I wouldn''t ruin billions of lives for the sake of a little game. I abhor the gods with a passion. If the universe didn¡¯t require them, I would try and kill them all myself.¡± She smiles a gut-wrenching smile, before her eyes focus in on me. ¡°No, I am not one of those assholes. In fact I was once like you, a normal human, no offense.¡± I wonder what that tea tastes like, is it even real? Cadet Elena! Pay attention, the woman in front of you is talking about important world breaking stuff! Aye-Aye Captain! ¡°None taken, I pride myself on my normalcy.¡± Sheyla nods her head in understanding, ¡°You see, I learned to game the system, quite literally. In fact I know so much about this system, that I, along with a few others, have been chosen to teach the ones recently introduced to the system, how it works. The mentoring program is surprisingly... new. So there are still some kinks we need to figure out.¡± I was about to ask another question when she interrupts me. ¡°I am afraid that we have less time than I thought to prepare for the next part of the tutorial. So I might have to rush what I am about to tell you. First off, I want you to think the word [Status].¡±

¡°Have you done that? Good. Most of what you see there is self-explanatory, however I want to go over the important things with you, since different worlds seem to have some surprisingly different explanations for things." She pauses, before listing things in a rapid manner. "First off, your mana, most people start out with a base of thirty to fifty mana, but as a Beta Player you should get a bonus amount. Then there is health, again as a beta player, you should get an increase to your base health by roughly 50. There are quite a few ways to raise those two values, but the main way is to either level up, or gain a class.¡± She glances at the sun, ¡°Unfortunately, I don¡¯t have enough time to explain classes, they won¡¯t be important until later anyway. I will skip over the whole sponsor thing for now and move on to titles. You can look at what a title does by saying ¡®describe title¡¯ and then whatever title you want to understand. Explore those on your own as soon as you can.¡± She takes a deep breath and bites her lip, thinking. ¡°Your Health, Mana, Physicality and Brilliance will all increase when you level up.¡± She leans in towards me and continues ¡°Can you tell me what you chose from the equipment room?¡± Captain! The brain has too many questions to ask! What do we do?! We will have to ignore them for now Cadet. I am afraid we will have to press the Big Red Button. Captain? You can¡¯t mean¡ That button? The horrifying, terror inducing, world breaking Big Red Button??!! Yes. I order you to press the Stop Asking Questions Button. Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!! ¡°I chose these gloves.¡± I take off the silk gloves and hand them over to her. She studies them carefully. To my surprise, the gloves start to glow, changing as they do. I lean in closer to get a better look at them They keep their silky blackness, but silver letters similar to what I had seen of hieroglyphics sit there glowing. The letters go in a spiral down the long sleeves reaching my elbows where the gloves end. ¡°Nice choice of equipment, even I can¡¯t see all that it can do¡.¡± She turns the gloves over following the silver letters. She looks up from the gloves, smiling at me. ¡°Unfortunately, as I keep saying, we don¡¯t have the time to get into detail. For now, I want you to say [Identify Equipment: Gloves].¡± I do as she says.

Sheyla hands over the gloves, which I then promptly put on, ¡°In the next test, you will be facing creatures that will likely be terrifying to you. Thankfully, you are still in the tutorial. If something happens to you out there and you die, you will be revived at the beginning of the test. Good luck Elena. I want you to take this with you for now.¡± She hands me a small book that I just hold in front of me, not sure what to do with it. She looks at me expectantly. Not sure what she is expecting, I motion towards my lack of pockets. Shayla stares at me blankly, before realization dawns on her face ¡°I completely forgot to tell you, didn¡¯t I? That is a silly oversight, say ¡®Place In Inventory¡¯ and everything in your hands will be placed in your inventory. Later you can figure out how to use your inventory without words.¡± Shayla looks at something I can¡¯t see, ¡°And it looks like those will be my last words to you for a while, I hope you survive what is coming.¡± After she says that, my vision starts to get hazy, and I pass out. Chapter 2: Death ? Captain! She is starting to wake up, what are your orders? ? Put the scanners to maximum, we have no Idea what could be out there. Be prepared for anything. ? Captain, feelers all over the body are reporting that it is cold and that the ground is hard rock. ? Have the eyes opened yet? ? No sir. She appears to be getting up and holding her head. The feelers up there are reporting a headache. ? Very well. Make her open her eyes. ? Aye-aye Captain. Uuuuuughh¡ My head huuuuurts. Have you guys ever felt like there are little people in your head? Well, for me, it feels like those guys decided to jump around and bang giant drums. ? How did she figure it out Captain? ? No idea Cadet. I am going to pretend I didn¡¯t hear that. I open my eyes before looking around. I am in a small cave that is lit by a torch high on the wall. The entrance to the cave is near impossible to see through, blocked by the snowstorm raging outside.. I stand up slowly and look around at the bare walls of the cave seeing nothing other than the torch. I shiver as the cold hits me, at least my fingers feel warm, thanks to the gloves I¡¯m wearing. Standing up, I walk over to the only torch in the cave. I lift it out of its socket, feeling a little better with the warmth of the torch so close. I stand there for a second considering my options before holding the torch out in front of me and heading out into the snowstorm. I know, I know, not the smartest thing to do when dressed in a flimsy nightdress. But this is a test, right? I can¡¯t imagine that I¡¯ll be passing this test by staying in a small cave with only one torch. The wind almost blows my torch out immediately, but I manage to get in front of it, creating a windbreak. This does cause my body to slowly freeze from the hard snow pounding into me, but I do my best to ignore it. The torch lets me see roughly a meter in each direction, but I can hear sounds all around me that are really starting to freak me out. Crunch. I swirl around, the torch thankfully staying lit. Nothing but falling snowflakes are behind me. See, sounds like that aren¡¯t good. Creeeeeak I turn around again, this time seeing a silhouette in front of me before it disappears. I let out a sigh of relief, realizing that I am not going crazy. Yeah. Right. I chuckle at my thoughts. Another breath of wind catches me by surprise, blowing my torch out. The next thing I know, I am sent flying through the air, an empty feeling in the middle of my chest. I try to get up, before falling down again. I feel blood dribble down onto my stomach as I sit up again. I look down to see a large hole right below my heart. That¡¯s not good. Somehow, with sheer adrenaline coursing through me, I stand back up. The hole in my chest starts to bleed heavily and I can feel my life draining away. I see glowing at the corner of my eyes, so I slowly turn my head to see my gloves and wound glowing at the same time. My wound starts closing, but before it can finish, a hand punches through my back. I stare down at the fist now sticking out of my chest. It was a large white fist with a line of gray fur traveling down each finger. The creature then pulls its hand out of my back, only for me to fall forward into the snow. Then, with little fanfare, I bleed out into the snow and die.
Congratulations! You have suffered your first death! Luckily for you, you are still in The Tutorial, so you get extra lives and get to keep your equipment! You have 1 life left before you can no longer win a special prize, so tread carefully!
I wake up in the cave still wearing my gloves, which I promptly thank god for. I look around to find the torch on the wall where I took it from. I sigh. What is the first rule of war? Know your enemy and know yourself. Thank you Sun Tzu. I went out there without any information like an idiot. Hell, I barely know what I am supposed to do right now. Take a deep breath. Follow the first rule. What do I know about my enemy? They have human shaped hands. Can they use tools? Most likely. Let¡¯s see¡ What else? Wait, they didn¡¯t attack me until the torch went out and they haven¡¯t attacked me in this cave. Possible fear of fire? Most likely. Also, the creature punched me in the chest, which means that it is at least human height, possibly bigger, considering it had enough strength to punch me through the chest. Anything else? I am afraid that that is it. What do I know about myself? Rather, what do I not know about myself? I guess I should start there. ¡°Status.¡± ? I look over my status, quickly deciding on what information I want first. Titles are as good a place to start as any. ¡°Describe Title Beta Tester.¡±
¡Ô Title: Beta Tester (Special) Description: You are one of the two-million people who have been given access to system and world events including exclusive events like The Tutorial. This title gives a bonus to all skill and stat growth.

¡Ô Title: Crazy In A Good Way (Is that even possible?) (Unique) Description: Pretty self explanatory. You gain a 90% resistance to all mental or psychic abilities, affects and spells. You also gain a 100% increase to learning and progression of all mental/psychic abilities and spells.
Pretty self explanatory my ass. I read through the title a second time, sighing in exasperation. ¡°Wow. Ok. A little more math than I was expecting. Now I just need to figure out how to learn psychic abilities¡.¡± I mumble to myself. ¡°So, based on the very little I know, things like magic should exist. So, how do I use it? Well, according the every psychic i¡¯ve met, meditation is always the route to magical power.¡± I talk to myself, the voices in my head staying quiet for once. I pause for a second before putting my legs into a lotus position. ¡°It doesn¡¯t hurt to try.¡± Before I begin, I mentally thank my mother for being such a hippy and teaching me how to meditate. Taking a deep breath in, then out, I start a fairly easy mantra. My mind and breath are one. I empty my thoughts to the void. My nose itches causing me to lose concentration. I rearrange my position slightly before continuing my mantra. My mind and breath are one. I empty my thoughts to the void My mind and breath are one. I empty my thoughts to the void ... My mind and breath are one. I empty my thoughts to the void ¡ Then I felt it, this energy flowing all around me, in every part of the room. Then I lost it. I am brought out of my meditation and curse at myself for losing concentration. I start chanting my mantra yet again ¡. I sense it again, a boundless energy all around me. What now? I try to grab the energy. A cry escapes my lips as the energy zaps me. ¡°Ouch!¡± Thanks to the zap, I lost concentration, which means I get to start over again. Yay. Time to repeat the mantra. And so I do, over, and over, and over, and over, again. After an unknown amount of time, I sigh in frustration. What I¡¯m doing right now isn¡¯t working. I keep trying to grab this energy to control it. Maybe I should try something else? I meditate until I¡¯m at that point again, then instead of trying to grab the energy, I submit to it. This time I don¡¯t feel pain. Pleasure fills me as the energy flows through me, the pleasure slowly turns into this warmth pulsing through my body, when I pass out. *** I pick myself off the floor of the cave slowly. I seem to be blacking out a lot lately. I don¡¯t think that is good for my health. My attention turns to the plethora of blue windows right in front of me.
Nice job! You have successfully gained the approval of mana. You are free to use your mana now. Good luck!
Due to your sudden gaining of mana, you have been temporarily knocked out. This was for your own safety.
Thanks to one of your titles you now have access to the force known as Psi.
You have one hour left until the torch goes out.
When did I get that last message? Hopefully not an hour ago. ¡°Identify item: Gloves¡± I say, hoping I will learn something valuable from the blue window that pops up.
~ Item: Gloves Of The Ancients Owner: Elena S Trudeau ~ Abilities: Volatile Looks, Indestructible, Heal, ???
Heal must have become unlocked when that creature tried to kill me. Knowing that I have less than an hour left before the torch dies, I close my eyes, trying to come up with a plan. I can¡¯t go out into that storm again. Whatever was out there will kill me just as it did last time. No, I will have to fight it on my own terms, on my own ground. So, I decide to do something crazy. First, I close my eyes and wait a few seconds, so that they can get used to the dark. Then I pull the gloves tight and pray that they don¡¯t conduct heat and are truly indestructible. Finally, I place my hand over the torch and put it out. The room goes dark and I open my eyes. Then I wait at the entrance to the cave. I watch as a creature shuffles into the cave. It is a bipedal creature that slouches at six feet tall. The creature has long muscular arms that almost reach it¡¯s ankles and a rather muscular upper body. It is fairly obviously a male, as it wasn¡¯t wearing any clothes. It slowly enters the cave, seemingly sniffing the air. Sniffing? I get right behind it, quickly steadying my breath; ¡°Boo!¡± As soon as the shout leaves my lips I crouch. The creature swings its body around, those incredibly strong arms swinging right over my head and missing me by a hair. As soon as his arms pass I jump up and strongly punch the creature in the throat, the spot where its trachea would be if it were human. I feel the bones and cartilage in its neck fracture under my fist. As it starts to asphyxiate, it pulls its arm back, giving me just enough time to prepare before its fist shoots towards my chest. I grab the fist as it punches, using the force, nearly too much for me to handle, to spin around its arm and pull it to the ground. I take a step back, as it throws its arms around wildly in pain and panic. I watch it slowly die in the cold half-darkness. Some tears come to my eyes as it looks at me in its last moments. In the stories and books that you read, they scroll over the act of taking a life as if it is nothing, normal even. But as I saw the life leave the creature, I couldn¡¯t help but apologize to it. So I did something I¡¯ve never done before. I got on my knees, put my hands together and asked that whatever higher-being is out there take this soul and gives it some peace I hear a dinging sound which I choose to ignore. The sound of shuffling makes me stand up and prepare for the next creature that has decided to come in to my small cave. This time I get a good look at the creature¡¯s face. Covered in fur except for a bit around its face, where white skin covers up what would normally be eyes. . The creature turns its head towards me. Can that thing see me without its eyes? I save my thoughts for later as the creature draws its arm back. So I prepare to block, but instinct has me duck, I listen to it. The arm I wasn¡¯t paying attention to, flies over my head. Shit! Did that creature just use a feint? I jump out of the way as it punches the spot where I was just standing with its other arm. We each take a second to study each other before it sends another punch towards me. This time I am prepared and use the same move I used on the other creature. As its punch comes hurtling towards me I grab it and use its momentum to spin around the outside of the creature¡¯s arm. Then, with all the power I can muster, I punch its neck and jump out of the way. The creature stumbles for a second before falling to the ground like its predecessor. It clutches its neck and struggles as it dies a slow death. I do the same thing that I did with the first one I killed. I get on my knees and pray for it as it passes away. Chapter 3: Coming Home My father has always wanted me to follow in his footsteps and become a doctor. So as a child growing up, a surprising amount of my education at home had been focused on human anatomy. Because of this, I realize, unfortunately, that the creatures I have been fighting have an annoyingly different anatomy to humans. I am incredibly lucky that the trachea is in the same spot on them as it is on a human and not hidden by a thick layer of muscle, or bone. I don¡¯t have a good cutting tool, so I refuse to open them up. But I can tell simply by their odd bone and muscular structure. For example, Their spine had this odd scale-like structure, where from each vertebrae a plate of bone would come out overlapping the next plate, normally this would be improbable because of your lack of ability to bend down or twist in certain ways. And yet, their existence was proven right in front of me. I will need to be more careful in the future about how I kill creatures like these Whites. I had, without realizing it, nicknamed the creatures Whites, because of their skin. Does that make me racist? I¡¯m not trying to be racist, I just don¡¯t know what they¡¯re called. I guess it is time to look at the notifications that I had chosen to ignore earlier.
Congratulations! You have reached level 2! You gain a two percent increase to Brilliance and Physicality along with an increase of 20 in Health, Mana and the special attribute Psi.
You have fought with your all and unwittingly used magic to do it. You have gained the skill [Enhance Body]

Due to your continued prayer to the creatures you have killed, you have gained the approval of the goddess Isis. Expect a test from her soon.
Well, that¡¯s an ominous message if I¡¯ve ever seen one. Tests from gods are never good. I take my mind away from that, instead focusing on the level up. I wonder what¡¯s changed? [Status]

I wonder what will happen when Graduate hits 100%? Maybe I will evolve! Elena! I choose you! Elena! Use Punch! Pokemon references never get old. Some light comes in through the entrance to the cave, startling me. Without my noticing, the storm had died down, allowing the sun to shine through. I stand up straight and cautiously walk to the entrance of the cave. I am snow-blinded for a second before my eyes adjust to the outside world. I rub my arms feeling the chill air brush against my skin and take in the sight in front of me. Outside of my cave is a flat land covered in snow, which rules out the idea of me being on a mountain top somewhere. I don¡¯t see any Whites in the distance, which is good for me and hopefully means that they are nocturnal creatures. I scan the outside, looking for any place that would allow me to get out of here. My search bears fruit in the form of another cave with a circle of torches in it. I don¡¯t think we should go over there. I think we should. Why should we? The better question is, Why shouldn¡¯t we? Because someone obviously wants us to go there. It is probably a trap. And¡? This is bad, how? Good point. Silly brain, always talking me into things. I start walking towards the cave. Strangely enough, I encounter no trouble along the way. As soon as I reach the cave, I put one foot inside¡ and black out. *** Uuuuuugh. I seem to be blacking out a lot lately. It reminds me of a bad plot device authors use to transport their characters from one place to another. I guess you just don¡¯t have the guts to answer me. I open my eyes to find myself back in the bedroom where all of this started. A blue screen immediately pops into my vision.
Congratulations on making it through the tutorial! We look forward to seeing you in action again soon! Thanks to the fact that you only died once, you have been given a special prize! Make sure to check it out in your inventory!
¡°I guess that wasn¡¯t a hallucination¡¡± I say softly to myself. ¡°Elle! There you are!¡± My mother bursts into my room. My mom is a beautiful woman with blue eyes and blond hair that flows down to her upper back, unfortunately those blue eyes are looking at me with an expression that says ¡®you are in some big trouble young lady!¡¯ ¡°We have been looking for you all day! We promised the Smiths that we would go to church with them today. Where were you?!¡± ¡°What are you talking about mom? We aren¡¯t supposed to go to church until tomorrow-¡° I stop suddenly. ¡°Is something wrong Elle?¡± My mom asks worriedly I turn my head, slowly looking up. ¡°I just had a strange feeling, like someone¡¯s watching me.¡± ¡°Don¡¯t distract from the problem Elle, you disappeared on us.¡± My mom leans against the door frame, her eyes watering with tears. ¡°Do you have any idea how worried I was? With your- I mean, after everything that¡¯s happened¡ Don¡¯t worry me like that.¡± ¡°You can just say it. I¡¯m not right in the head.¡± I say smiling at her. ¡°I know, and it doesn¡¯t bother me.¡± ¡°Honey¡¡± ¡°This might sound odd mom, but what day is today?¡± ¡°Are you joking with me Elle?¡± After seeing how serious I am, mom sighs. ¡°Oh honey, today is Sunday. Did something happen?¡± ¡°I don¡¯t really want to talk about it right now. Could I have some alone time? I need to think.¡± I look for my phone and grab it off of my dresser. ¡°Sure, honey. Just¡ I am here if you want to talk, ok?¡± Mom has a quick look of worry cross her face before she turns around to leave the room. It looks like I have only been gone for one day. I am glad that the game isn¡¯t some odd thing where time flows differently, that would have been annoying to deal with. I look at my hands realizing that I still have the gloves on. It would probably be best to keep them on, they are kinda useful. My phone lights up as I turn it on and jump onto my bed. My friends sent me a couple messages asking me where I was, but nothing too important seems to have happened. I turn the screen on my phone off, as I sink into the bed and close my eyes. ¡°Elena? Can you hear me?¡± ¡°God? Is that you?¡± I open my eyes after I hear that voice. ¡°You should be grateful that I¡¯m not one of them. They bring nothing but pain.¡± It takes me a second to place the voice as the instructor that I¡¯d met in the tutorial and not just a new voice in my head. ¡°This is Sheyla, and not some random voice in my head, right?¡± It sounds different from the usual voices, but I have to make sure. ¡°I am Sheyla, the instructor for your tutorial. I¡¯ve decided to give you a little more¡ help. But I don¡¯t have long. Reaching across worlds like this is a strain on my powers.¡± There¡¯s a pause, and I feel a strange, yet familiar presence envelop me. ¡°I need you to follow me as I show you how to communicate with me.¡± I do as she asks. She brings the strange energy flowing through me to my throat, revealing a nucleus of power. The energy in me travels down the connection she¡¯s created, bringing my thoughts to her. Unfortunately my mind can be somewhat¡ Disorderly.
Your teacher has shown you the ways of the mind. You have gained the skill [Telepathy]
. ¡°Stop!¡± The voice comes through the bond and I break off my link to the connection she created ¡°Dear heavens, I¡¯m sorry. How do you¡ nevermind.¡± ¡°Did you hear them? The voices?¡± I can¡¯t keep the curiosity out of my voice. ¡°I¡ did.¡± I smile, glad that even if none of this is real, at least someone understood. ¡°Ignore the drama queen. She¡¯s a bitch.¡± ¡°Hah.¡± A brief snort of laughter makes its way through the bond. ¡°The main reason I have called you like this is because I¡¯ve decided that I wanted you to live till our next encounter-¡° ¡°Thanks for the vote of confidence.¡± ¡°So, I found out some information that you might want to know. The next System Event will be happening in exactly a week. So be prepared. I must leave now. Good luck.¡± ¡°Hopefully I won¡¯t need it.¡± I get no response from Shayla. I close my eyes, looking at the energies inside of me. It looks like I had gained something very valuable from that conversation. When Shayla guided my thoughts to her she had shown me how to put my¡ thoughts I guess, outside of the sphere that they are usually kept in. What else can I do? I smile wide, revealing more teeth than any sane smile should, before quickly hiding it. I sit up on my bed and cross my legs. Closing my eyes, I try to find the space that I glimpsed when Shayla guided my mind to our connection. The mantra that I used in the cave is an easy one, and I decide to repeat it. My mind and breath are one. I empty my thoughts to the void My mind and breath are one. I empty my thoughts to the void ... It takes a couple of tries, but I enter that same state a lot quicker than I did last time. This time, there is something different. Another energy is inside of me. The same energy that Sheyla had shown me. It has a clearer -color?- than the mana that seems to permeate everywhere else. I assume that this energy is the Psychic energy or Psi that showed up on my status screen earlier. I watch it as it travels down a path that stops and congeals at seven points through my body. As the psi energy would congeal at these nuclei, its color would change, matching the nuclei¡¯s own color. Something about these seven nuclei seemed familiar, and it took me a moment to relate them to a billboard of the chakras that I¡¯d seen in one of my mother¡¯s yoga classes. I trace the energy with my mind, watching it travel through my body with curiosity. It starts at the top of my head, circulating through a nucleus there. The nucleus, glows a bright white with the psi that travels through it, and I remember it as the crown chakra. I go through the chakras, trying to remember the names of them. The chakra in the middle of my forehead, glowing purple, is the third eye chakra. The one in my throat, glowing blue, is the throat chakra¡ communication, right? That would make sense, seeing as how Shayla communicated with me through it. My fourth chakra, glowing a deep green, is my heart chakra. My fifth chakra, a dark yellow, is in my solar plexus, or stomach. My sixth chakra, glowing orange, is right near my pelvis. And the final chakra, a deep dark red, is at the root of my being. I lose myself as I watch the energy travel through the chakras and through my body. Its colors and movement endlessly captivating. Eventually, I reach out and grab some of the energy in my throat chakra, like Sheyla had shown me. It works with me easily, moving exactly as my mind wills it. I pull the blue energy out of my body, moving it through the house. Eventually I find another person, their chakras are filled with the same energy as mine, except¡ lesser, without purpose. My psi connects to theirs and I immediately know that it¡¯s my mother. I hope that she is ok¡ Maybe I worry about her too much. But she can¡¯t just disappear on us like that! I have enough to worry about with Jacob. I wonder when he will get home tonight. When he does, I have a wonderful, sexy, surprise waiting for- I cut off the connection to her. I have no desire to read her thoughts on that subject. The psi in me has depleted slightly, but I can feel as my mind starts to regenerate the used energy. Or it could never come back. The drama queen¡¯s voice fills my head. Cadet! I have a new task for you! Yes Captain? We must take out the evil drama queen. Her thoughts have become too rampant and she seeks to destroy what we value most! What is that Captain? Our self-esteem. How could she! I move my hand to my forehead, rubbing it as I close my eyes. After a moment, I refocus on the chakras inside of me. I have a good idea of what the throat chakra does, what about the others? I move my mind to the chakra of my third eye. Gently, I pull some of the purple energy out of the chakra and into the world around- AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!! I promptly pass out. ... I wake up in my bed, with an incredible migraine pulsing through my head. ¡°Damn it. IT HURTS.¡± I open my eyes to find a couple of blue windows in front of me.
You have gained an understanding of the art of meditation.
Through experimentation you have gained the ability Divine Sight.
There is the bastard that did it. Right there! When I pulled that bit of Psi out of my third eye, it did more than let me see outside of my body. I¡ I don¡¯t exactly remember what it did, and I get a headache just trying to think about it. But I know it did it! Probably? Definitely!
