《Project Skyfall》 Sometimes the ends justify the means ¡°Sometimes the ends justify the means.¡± That was the motto that the lab workers seemed to live by at least In a hidden facility far off the west coast of some deserted island experiments were being conducted. These experiments were ones to create a new age of heroes. Ones to replace the current ones if they were to fall or take them out if they stray from the light. In a world where the power increased with each new generation this was the logical thing to do. If the sun rose on a grateful world no one would care about what happened in the shadows. In one of their white rooms sat 8192 in quiet contemplation. His thoughts were cut short as 024792 joyfully entered the room. ¡®Get out of my room 024792.¡¯ He was quick to dismiss her as he wasn¡¯t in the mood to chat but 024792 wasn¡¯t one who takes no for an answer. ¡°You know if the others see you like this, they will deem you weak.¡± ¡°Oh, who cares what they think they can¡¯t even take me in a fight.¡± ¡°Strong physically but inside a little weakling.¡± ¡°I could beat you without batting an eye you know. ¡°Yeah, you wish¡±, 024792 said laughing as she left finally giving him the peace he so desperately wanted. 8192 went back to staring at his white ceiling before deciding to leave the room. If she was to just disturb his peace at any moment, he might as well make some good out of it. Rushing to their training room he found her lifting some weights and decided to join her. ¡°Finally, you got here, I was wondering if I would have to drag you here like I do every day.¡± ¡°Oh, come on 024792, you should know better than that by now.¡± Through the hardships of the experiments the 2 found one another and it allowed them not only to pull through day by day, but to excel as they were a team. 2 years have since passed from that moment with most of the subjects either succumbing to the alterations made by experiments on their physical bodies and genetic code or by killing each other during training. On this day, however everything was about to change. The intercom system roared to life with the voice of the Head Scientist booming throughout every room. ¡°All subjects to report to Room 342 immediately!¡± Trained to keep time, within a minute the room was soon filled with children of various ages, powers and race. The Head Scientist was soon to follow, dressed in all white wearing a mask as to hide his real identity. Standard protocol for all facility staff. Turning to the children he addressed them in a powerful yet sweet manner as one would to a small child, ¡°As all of you know you my children are warriors. My finest work if l do say so myself. However most of you aren¡¯t well attuned to the ordeals you have to encounter once you leave this facility. Hence today there shall be (pause) (with a menacing look) A CULLING!¡± Gasps echoed all throughout the room. What was he going on about? The children exchanged horrified looks before he continued to address them. ¡°Oh, my sweet, sweet children only the strong survive in the world, hence You shall be the ones to commence the culling. No holding back now and may the strongest survive.¡± Turning his back to the children he left the room and was met by his assistant outside the room. ¡°Sir is this necessary they are just kids.¡± He coldly replied, ¡°As l said, ¡°Only the strong survive in this world.¡± Back in room 342, looks were still being exchanged. Who was going to make the first move and start the culling? Before anyone could decide 8192 quickly spoke up. ¡°Guys listen and listen to me carefully. We are powerful enough to break out if we really want to. No one has to die if we just all overpower them. I¡¯ll lead and you will follow, okay? If everyone does as I say we can all¡.¡± (BANG!!) 024792 screamed in horror as 8192¡¯s lifeless body hit the ground. Instead of listening out of fear one of the kids had shot 8192 in the head. With the dead of 8192, all hell broke loose. Children desperately trying to survive turned on their peers giving their all to rapidly reduce their numbers. Limbs were torn off and used as weapons, others were impaled on various energy-based constructs and one even took pleasure in decapitating whomever he faced. Amidst the chaos the air sparkled as energy flowed throughout the room to 8192¡¯s corpse. Levitating and with a bloodcurdling cry it pulled 8192 back to the mortal plane. With bloodshot eyes he eyed his first target before quickly moving to the next. Within a span of 59 seconds, 455 children dropped to 2. During the first 45 seconds 100 lives were lost. This was the time 8192 was dead. As he attacked the last remaining child he found himself hesitating. A feeling of despair immediately rushed in replacing the feeling of ecstasy he had been feeling all but a moment ago. Quickly he grabbed her wrist to check for a pulse.¡± Oh no no no what have I done? What have I done? Wait she might still be alive.¡± He checked for a pulse and was relieved to see that she was alive. Entering the room the Head Scientist turned to address his sole victor. ¡°My child only the strong survive in this world. End her suffering and offer mercy to 024792.¡± ¡°But why, why won¡¯t you help me?¡± he asked only to be coldly ignored as The Head Scientist prepared to kill her himself. Stolen from its rightful place, this narrative is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings. I will not repeat myself boy. Its then 8192 realized that no one was going to aid him. No one was coming to save her. He had done this himself and only he can save her. But not there not in that facility he had to escape¡.. somehow. Placing her on the ground he charged the head scientist but he was faster. Every move he made was anticipated countered and returned. In utter defeat 8192 did the only logical thing he could do, flee. Picking up 024792 he charged for the door. Knowing no one would be currently guarding the doors except the main one his escape would be flawless. The only lives lost were those of the 3 unfortunate enough to have come to work today. Leaving the confined of the facility and finally tasting freedom 8192 was taken aback. Putting his hand up to block all the light his eyes were receiving, he realised t was the first time in his life he had ever seen the sun. **Chapter 2** Consequences The city was a maze of towering buildings and unfamiliar faces, a world 8192 had only ever glimpsed through the facility¡¯s sterile windows. Now, he was running through its streets, his arms trembling under the weight of 024792. Her breathing was shallow, her body limp, and the blood staining her clothes was a grim reminder of the urgency of their situation. He had one task now: save her. But the world outside the facility was harsh and unyielding. He ran from door to door, desperation fuelling his steps. The first house he approached was a modest home with a neatly trimmed lawn. He knocked frantically, his voice hoarse as he called out, ¡°Please! Help us! She¡¯s dying!¡± The door creaked open, revealing a middle-aged man with a scowl. His eyes widened at the sight of the bloodied pair, but before 8192 could explain further, the man slammed the door shut, muttering, ¡°Not my problem.¡± The next house was no different. A woman peeked through the curtains, her face pale with shock, but she refused to open the door. ¡°Go away!¡± she shouted, her voice trembling. ¡°Call the police or something!¡± House after house, the response was the same. Fear, rejection, and indifference. 8192¡¯s hope dwindled with each closed door. His arms were growing weak, his legs trembling from exhaustion. But he couldn¡¯t stop. Not yet. Finally, he stumbled toward a small, weathered house at the end of a quiet street. The porch light flickered, casting a faint glow on the cracked steps. Summoning the last of his strength, he knocked on the door, his movements slow and unsteady. From inside, a voice grumbled, ¡°Alright, alright! I¡¯m coming! Don¡¯t break the door down, you freak!¡± The door swung open, revealing a girl with fiery orange hair and a scowl that quickly turned to horror. Her eyes widened as she took in the sight before her: a boy, drenched in blood, cradling a girl whose condition was even worse. 8192¡¯s voice was barely a whisper as he pleaded, ¡°Please¡ help her¡¡± Before he could finish, his legs gave out, and he collapsed onto the porch. The girl¡ªAisha¡ªscreamed, her voice piercing the night. A man came rushing to the door, his face a mix of confusion and concern. He was tall, with sharp features and an air of quiet authority. His dark eyes flicked to 8192 and 024792, and without hesitation, he barked, ¡°Get the car keys! Now!¡±
The drive to the hospital was a blur of screeching tires and blaring horns. The man, whose name 8192 still didn¡¯t know, weaved through traffic with reckless determination. In the backseat, 8192 clung to consciousness, his hand gripping 024792¡¯s as if he could through sheer determination will her to stay alive. When they arrived at the hospital, chaos erupted. The man burst through the doors, shouting orders like someone used to being obeyed. ¡°Everyone out of my way! You¡ªget a doctor! These kids need help now!¡± Nurses scrambled to respond, their training kicking in as they assessed the situation. Stretchers were wheeled out, and both 8192 and 024792 were lifted onto them. As they were rushed down the hallway, 8192¡¯s vision blurred. He could hear the doctors talking over him, their voices urgent. ¡°Multiple lacerations, possible internal bleeding¡ªget him into surgery!¡± But as they began to work on him, he flatlined and exactly 45 seconds later while the lead surgeon was recording time of death, the wounds that had been bleeding moments ago began to close on their own. The doctors froze, their instruments being incorporated into his body as he healed over them. ¡°What the hell?¡± one of them muttered, staring at 8192¡¯s rapidly healing skin. ¡°He is a conditional regenerator. Administer the LH toxin before he heals with our blades still in him.¡± 8192, barely conscious, managed to mutter, ¡°Don¡¯t¡ waste your time on me. Save her. My bo¡dy will deal with the bl¡..ades itse¡..lf¡± The doctors exchanged uneasy glances but didn¡¯t argue. They wheeled him into a recovery room, leaving him under the watchful eye of a nurse, while they turned their full attention to 024792.
The operating room was a flurry of activity. 024792¡¯s injuries were severe¡ªinternal bleeding, broken ribs, and a deep gash across her abdomen. The lead surgeon barked orders, his voice steady despite the tension in the room. ¡°We need to stabilize her now. Get me more blood!¡± If you find this story on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen. Please report the infringement. For a while, it seemed like they were making progress. But then, her heart rate plummeted, the monitor¡¯s steady beep turning into a frantic whine. ¡°We¡¯re losing her!¡± one of the doctors shouted. ¡°Get the defibrillator!¡± The room erupted into controlled chaos as they fought to save her. The shock of the defibrillator jolted her body, once, twice. Finally, the monitor stabilized, and the tension in the room eased. ¡°She¡¯s back,¡± the lead surgeon said, his voice heavy with relief. ¡°Let¡¯s finish this.¡±
When 8192 woke, he was in a hospital bed, the sterile white walls a stark contrast to the chaos of his memories. His body ached , but his first thought was of 024792. He sat up abruptly, his eyes scanning the room. Aisha was there, sitting in a chair beside his bed, her orange hair catching the fluorescent light. Her expression was unreadable, but there was a flicker of concern in her eyes. ¡°Where is she?¡± he demanded, his voice rough. ¡°Is she okay?¡± Aisha held up a hand, her tone calm but firm. ¡°Relax. She¡¯s alive. The doctors said it was touch and go for a while, but she made it.¡± 8192¡¯s shoulders sagged with relief, but the moment was short-lived. The man from the house entered the room, his presence commanding despite his silence. He leaned against the wall, his sharp eyes studying 8192 with an intensity that made him uneasy. ¡°You¡¯ve got a lot of explaining to do,¡± the man said, his voice low and measured. ¡°But first, you need to rest. Both of you.¡± ¡°I¡¯m fine thank you for your help, but we need to leave now.¡± As if on cue, a nurse pulled back the curtain dividing the room, revealing 024792 in the adjacent bed. Her eyes fluttered open, and when they landed on 8192, they burned with a mixture of anger and pain. ¡°You,¡± she spat, her voice weak but venomous. ¡°You killed them all.¡± 8192 flinched, but he didn¡¯t look away. ¡°I didn¡¯t have a choice,¡± he said, his voice steady despite the guilt gnawing at him. ¡°They would have killed me.¡± 024792 struggled to sit up, her movements stiff and pained. ¡°You enjoyed it,¡± she accused, her voice trembling. ¡°I saw it in your eyes.¡± 8192¡¯s jaw tightened. ¡°Maybe I did,¡± he admitted, his voice barely above a whisper. ¡°But that doesn¡¯t mean I wanted to. I didn¡¯t ask for this. I didn¡¯t ask to be¡ this.¡± The room fell silent, the weight of his words hanging heavy in the air. Aisha and the man exchanged a glance, their expressions unreadable. Outside, the city buzzed with life, oblivious to the storm brewing within the hospital walls. But for 8192 and 024792, the fight was far from over. The room fell silent, the weight of 8192¡¯s words hanging heavy in the air. 024792 stood frozen, her fists clenched, her breathing ragged. The anger in her eyes flickered, replaced by something else¡ªuncertainty, perhaps even guilt. She took a step back, her gaze dropping to the floor. ¡° You¡ you didn¡¯t have to kill them. There had to be another way.¡± ¡°Maybe.¡± Came the response, ¡°But in that moment, all I saw was survival. I wasn¡¯t thinking about right or wrong. I was thinking about us. About getting you out of there alive.¡± 024792 looked up, tears welling in her eyes, ¡°And what about the others? They didn¡¯t deserve to die.¡± ¡°Neither did we. But they made their choice. And I made mine.¡± 8192 grimly responded. The tension between them was palpable, the air thick with unspoken emotions. Aisha, who had been silently observing the exchange, stepped forward, her voice calm but firm. ¡°Both of you have been through something unimaginable. But fighting each other isn¡¯t going to fix anything. You¡¯re safe now. That¡¯s what matters.¡± ¡°Safe? For how long? They¡¯ll come for us. You don¡¯t know what they¡¯re capable of.¡± 024792 nodded reluctantly, ¡°He¡¯s right. They won¡¯t stop until we¡¯re either back in that facility¡ or dead.¡± Aisha crossed her arms. These 2 would be difficult. ¡°Then we¡¯ll make sure that doesn¡¯t happen. You¡¯re not alone anymore. I¡ we¡¯ll help you.¡± 8192 was very sceptical of her. Why? Why would a complete stranger risk their life for them? Aisha sensed his unease and addressed his concern while smiling faintly,¡± Because it¡¯s the right thing to do. And because¡ you¡¯re just kids. You shouldn¡¯t have to face this alone.¡± The room fell quiet again, the tension easing slightly. 024792 sat back down on the edge of her bed, her shoulders slumping as the fight drained out of her. 8192 remained standing, his expression unreadable, but the hardness in his eyes had softened. 024792 finally broke the ice, ¡° So¡ what now?¡± ¡°Now, we figure out a plan. But first, you both need to rest. You¡¯ve been through enough for one day.¡± ¡°Rest won¡¯t change what¡¯s coming.¡± ¡°Maybe not. But it¡¯ll give you the strength to face it.¡± As the night wore on, the hospital room grew quieter, the only sound the steady beeping of monitors. 8192 sat by the window, staring out at the city lights, his mind racing. 024792 lay in bed, her eyes closed, but sleep eluded her. Aisha stayed with them, a silent guardian, her presence a small comfort in the chaos.
To Be Continued¡ **Chapter 3** A New Beginning Time passed slowly for 8192 and 024792 as they remained hospitalized, recovering from the injuries sustained during their confrontation. The sterile walls of the hospital felt like a strange limbo¡ªneither the oppressive confines of the facility nor the freedom of the outside world. But amidst the tension and pain, a small glimmer of hope emerged. 024792 had decided to forgive 8192. She realized that holding onto her anger was futile. What had happened in the facility was in the past, and now, she wanted to focus on the future. The door to the room creaked open, and Aisha stepped inside. She was a striking figure, her fiery ginger hair catching the light as she smiled warmly. Her light skin glowed under the fluorescent lights, and her green eyes sparkled with mischief. She had a well-defined, athletic build, the kind that spoke of someone who was both strong and graceful. ¡°Hey there, uh¡ 2421?¡± she began, her voice hesitant. ¡°It¡¯s 024792,¡± the girl corrected, though her tone was more amused than annoyed. 024792¡ªwas a lighter shade of black, her skin smooth and radiant. Her black hair framed her face in soft waves, and her purple eyes, though tired, held a quiet strength. She was muscular, but in a way that was distinctly feminine, her physique a testament to the physical demands of her abilities. Aisha chuckled. ¡°You know, there¡¯s nothing wrong with a regular name. You¡¯re starting a new life, right? Might as well have a name that feels like you.¡± 024792 paused, considering this. ¡°You¡¯re right. I¡ I think I¡¯d like that. Do you have any suggestions?¡± Aisha¡¯s grin widened. ¡°Oh, I came prepared.¡± With a flick of her wrist, she conjured a book out of thin air, its pages fluttering as if they had always existed. Her power¡ªtransmutation¡ªallowed her to rearrange matter at will, a skill she wielded with effortless precision. 024792¡¯s eyes widened in shock. ¡°How did you do that?¡± Aisha shrugged, her expression playful. ¡°Come on, you control photons from what I saw, and your friend over there is a speedster with conditional healing. Did you think you were the only ones with powers?¡± ¡°First of all,¡± 024792 said, her cheeks flushing, ¡°8192 isn¡¯t my boyfriend. He¡¯s just a friend. We¡¯re just friends.¡± Aisha raised an eyebrow, her smirk growing. ¡°Sure, sure. Whatever you say.¡± 024792 sighed, deciding to let it go. ¡°Enough about 8192. How did you make that book out of thin air?¡± ¡°Oh, it¡¯s nothing special,¡± Aisha replied, flipping through the pages. ¡°My power is transmutation. I can change matter from one form to another. All I did was rearrange the carbon, oxygen, and hydrogen in the air into paper and ink.¡± ¡°So, you¡¯re an alchemist,¡± 024792 said, her voice tinged with awe. ¡°Yeah, you could say that,¡± Aisha said with a wink. ¡°Now, let¡¯s find you a name, shall we?¡± As they flipped through the book, 024792 pointed to a name. ¡°What about¡ Kasandra?¡± Aisha made a face. ¡°Kasandra? Hmm. You don¡¯t look like a Kasandra to me.¡± ¡°Okay, how about this one?¡± 024792 suggested, pointing to another name. Aisha leaned over to look. ¡°Karen? Oh no, no, no. You definitely don¡¯t want to be a Karen. Trust me.¡± She flipped a few more pages, her eyes scanning the options. ¡°What about¡ Chloe? Or Cleo?¡± ¡°Chloe,¡± 024792 said softly, testing the name on her tongue. ¡°I like that. Chloe sounds¡ right.¡± Aisha smiled. ¡°Chloe it is, then. Nice to meet you, Chloe.¡± From that moment on, 024792 became Chloe. Aisha¡¯s playful demeanor softened as she added, ¡°And just so you know, I prefer my second name. Call me Aisha, okay?¡± Chloe nodded. ¡°Got it, Aisha.¡± Aisha stood up, brushing imaginary dust off her clothes. ¡°Well, Chloe, it was nice chatting, but I should go check on 8192. He¡¯s literally in the next room, you know.¡± Chloe groaned. ¡°Do you have to go?¡± Aisha laughed. ¡°I¡¯ll be back soon. Don¡¯t miss me too much.¡± As she left, 8192¡¯s voice echoed from the adjacent room. ¡°Yes, I¡¯m here, and I heard everything, Chloe!¡± His laughter followed, loud and unapologetic. Chloe rolled her eyes. ¡°Good Lord, the lungs on that boy.¡± Aisha poked her head back into the room, grinning. ¡°Oh, like you have a better name for yourself.¡± 8192¡¯s voice came again, this time more serious. ¡°I do, actually. Excalibur.¡± Aisha raised an eyebrow. ¡°What was that? Exalibar?¡± ¡°No, Excalibur!¡± 8192 shouted, his voice tinged with frustration. Aisha smirked. ¡°Exalibar?¡± ¡°E-X-C-A-L-I-B-U-R,¡± 8192 spelled out slowly, his patience wearing thin. Ensure your favorite authors get the support they deserve. Read this novel on Royal Road. Aisha feigned confusion. ¡°Exalibar? Got it.¡± 8192 groaned. ¡°Oh, forget it. Exalibar it is. What the hell?¡± Chloe couldn¡¯t help but laugh. ¡°You heard him, didn¡¯t you?¡± Aisha giggled. ¡°Yeah, but Excalibur just doesn¡¯t suit him. Exalibar, though? That¡¯s kind of cute, don¡¯t you think?¡± Chloe smirked. ¡°Good thinking. I think it fits him perfectly.¡± Aisha leaned in, her voice teasing. ¡°And you say he¡¯s not your boyfriend.¡± ¡°For the last time, he¡¯s not¡ª¡± Chloe began, but her protest was cut off as the doctor entered the room. The doctor, a middle-aged man with a kind but no-nonsense demeanor, smiled at Chloe. ¡°Good afternoon. How are you feeling?¡± ¡°I feel great, actually,¡± Chloe replied, sitting up straighter. ¡°Excellent,¡± the doctor said, turning to Aisha. ¡°If you could sign here, we can get your friend discharged today. Surprisingly, all her tests indicate she¡¯s fit and ready to go.¡± Chloe¡¯s expression faltered. ¡°Aisha, wait. We don¡¯t have anywhere to go.¡± Aisha waved her concern away. ¡°It¡¯s okay. You and Exalibar can come live with me and the others.¡± Chloe¡¯s eyes lit up. ¡°Really?¡± ¡°Others?¡± Exalibar¡¯s voice called from the next room. Aisha chuckled. ¡°Yeah, I¡¯ll introduce you when we get there.¡± She signed the discharge papers with a flourish and handed them back to the doctor. ¡°Thank you, Miss,¡± the doctor said, turning to Chloe. ¡°You¡¯re free to go.¡± As they left the hospital, the mysterious man who had brought them there waited outside with a sleek car. He was tall, strikingly handsome, with sharp features and piercing black eyes that seemed to see right through you. His presence was commanding, yet there was a warmth to him that put Chloe at ease. He introduced himself as James Maxford, a multi-trillionaire with a complicated past. James¡¯s family had amassed their wealth over centuries, exploiting resources and people alike. But James had broken the cycle. Following the death of his wife and unwilling to continue his family¡¯s legacy of greed, he had dedicated his fortune to building a sanctuary for people like Chloe and Exalibar (in actuality he just had money to burn and really wanted to build a school like professor x from the X-Men comics he loved reading as a child) They arrived at a sprawling estate that made mansions look modest. The building was a marvel of modern architecture, surrounded by lush gardens and filled with the sounds of laughter and activity. Inside, children of all ages moved about, some flying through the air, others engaged in animated conversations. It was a place of belonging, a stark contrast to the cold, sterile facility they had escaped. Aisha led them inside, her voice filled with pride. ¡°Well, what do you think?¡± Chloe¡¯s eyes sparkled with wonder. ¡°Wow. Just¡ wow.¡± Exalibar, ever the contrarian, shrugged. ¡°Meh. The facility was bigger.¡± Chloe shot him a glare. ¡°Can you not?¡± Exalibar muttered under his breath, ¡°Spoilsport.¡± Exalibar was a lean, muscular figure, his tall frame towering over most. His brown skin was smooth, and his grey hair contrasted sharply with his piercing blue eyes. He moved with a quiet confidence, his every action deliberate and precise. Chloe¡¯s eyes glowed faintly. ¡°No, seriously. Be nice, or else.¡± Exalibar raised his hands in mock surrender. ¡°Alright, let¡¯s clear this up once and for all. Just because I let you land those hits back at the hospital doesn¡¯t mean you can take me. Heck, not even the two of you together could take me. I¡¯d put both of you into the ground without a moment¡¯s hesitation. You know this.¡± Aisha smirked, stepping closer. ¡°Big talk, Exalibar. But can you back it up?¡± She poked his chest, emphasizing each syllable. ¡°E-X-A-L-I-B-A-R. You know we have a training room mostly used for simulated battles if you 2 really want to go at it¡± Exalibar¡¯s eyes narrowed. ¡°You¡¯re on. Where¡¯s this training room of yours?¡± The training room was a vast, white space filled with state-of-the-art equipment. Aisha announced to the room, ¡°Alright, everyone! Either stay to watch or leave. These two have a score to settle.¡± Chloe and Exalibar faced off in the center of the room. Aisha handed Chloe a sword, its blade crackling with photon energy. Exalibar smirked, taunting her. ¡°You really think that¡¯s going to do anything?¡± Without warning, Chloe hurled the sword at him, aiming for his neck. Exalibar dodged effortlessly, catching the hilt mid-air. But before he could retaliate, a blinding blast of light struck his eyes, sending him staggering backward. Chloe followed up with a barrage of photon blasts, each one aimed with precision at his vital points. But Exalibar refused to stay down. With each attack, he rose faster. He closed the distance between them, his movements a blur. Chloe unleashed a final, devastating blast, the force of it shaking the room and sending Exalibar flying across the floor. Aisha gasped. ¡°Chloe, I think you might have actually killed him.¡± Chloe panted, her energy spent. ¡°Not even death can stop that psy---¡± Her words were cut off as Exalibar¡¯s voice rang out from the cloud of dust. ¡°Hey, Chloe! Think FAST¡± Through the dust shot what seemed to be a bloody metal pole that was Chloe narrowly avoided from dealing critical damage, but damage was still dealt. The dust settled, revealing a horrifying sight. Exalibar stood, his body broken and bloodied. His left arm was missing, his right eye was burned out, and a metal pole protruded from his chest. Yet, he was still standing, a grim smile on his face. Aisha rushed to his side. ¡°Exalibar, we need to get you to the infirmary!¡± He pushed her away, his voice steady despite his injuries. ¡°Not yet. I¡¯m not done. I just need to-¡± He collapsed succumbing to his wounds and yet Chloe stood there, unfazed. His body began to steam as his wounds healed at an alarming rate. He arose, yanked the metal pole from his chest and coughed up blood. ¡°What doesn¡¯t kill you¡ only makes you stronger.¡± ¡°That doesn¡¯t apply to you Exalibar you died remember.¡±, Chloe retorted. ¡°Still here aren¡¯t I?¡± In an instant, he was in front of Chloe, his hand gripping hers as he redirected her next blast into the ceiling. She tried to pull away, but his grip was unyielding. ¡°Time out! Time out!¡± she pleaded. Exalibar¡¯s eyes bore into hers. ¡°Don¡¯t chicken out now.¡± Before she could respond, he delivered a precise chop to her neck, sending her crumpling to the ground. He caught her before she hit the floor, his movements gentle despite the ferocity of the fight. Aisha stared at him, her expression a mix of shock and admiration. ¡°How¡ how did you do that?¡± Exalibar smirked. ¡°Don¡¯t really know how it works but I can die up to 3 times in a 24-hour period each quote-on-quote life replenishing every 8 hours. In the event that I die I will be yanked back to life after my body heals all my wounds or 45 seconds. Also, if I am out of lives and gravely injured my body will endure then die immediately when I regain a life. But I don¡¯t have a constant healing factor. Kinda shitty if you ask me.¡± Aisha¡¯s eyes narrowed. ¡°Any other powers you got?¡± ¡°Why yes actually, I have 1 more that allows me to copy and store up to 3 of any ability I see in action and hold on to them indefinitely for as long as I require.¡± ¡°That¡¯s the first time I¡¯ve heard of such an ability¡± ¡°That¡¯s true it is rare¡± ¡°Exalibar its not rare no one else has it and thank you for telling me but why would you tell me that? What if I use it against you?¡± Exalibar¡¯s smirk softened. ¡°If you wanted me dead, you would¡¯ve left me on your doorstep. But you didn¡¯t. So, no, I don¡¯t think you¡¯ll kill me.¡± As Aisha helped him carry Chloe to the infirmary, she couldn¡¯t help but wonder about the boy who had fought so fiercely yet protected his friend so gently. There was more to Exalibar than met the eye, and she was determined to find out what it was. *To Be Continued¡* **Chapter 4** Starting Afresh Starting afresh isn¡¯t always easy. It¡¯s a tedious process that sometimes takes a dangerous toll on the mind and body. But for Chloe and Exalibar, it was an escape¡ªan escape from the torments of their past, a way to avoid the haunting pain of what had happened to them, and a way to suppress the guilt of what they had done. The past was bleak, but the future held a glimmer of hope. After a tour of their new residence by Aisha, they were introduced to the other children. Some were immediately accepting, while others were hesitant. Trust, after all, is earned, not given. The lack of trust didn¡¯t seem to faze Exalibar, who was constantly on edge, but it bothered Chloe. She could feel the cold glares from some of the children, their scepticism palpable. Opting to end the introductions rather than face more condescension from what Exalibar referred to as ¡°these dorks,¡± the two were escorted to their rooms. As they headed to the elevator, Aisha suddenly turned to Chloe, her green eyes sparkling with excitement. ¡°Chloe, you know I don¡¯t have a roommate. Why don¡¯t you come stay with me? We could have parties, makeovers, pillow fights¡¡± Before she could finish, Chloe cut her off, her purple eyes lighting up with pure ecstasy. ¡°Yes, yes, yes!¡± she exclaimed. Aisha grinned, then turned to Exalibar. ¡°Now, onto you. Any preferences for your room?¡± Exalibar crossed his arms, his grey hair catching the light as he tilted his head. ¡°Can I have one where I¡¯m alone?¡± Aisha raised an eyebrow. ¡°Why?¡± ¡°To put it simply,¡± Exalibar said, his blue eyes narrowing, ¡°I sleep weird.¡± ¡°How weird?¡± Aisha asked, her tone sceptical. ¡°Under ten times normal Earth gravity, upside down, moving at 1,110 kilometres per hour,¡± Exalibar replied matter-of-factly. Aisha blinked. ¡°That¡¯s bullshit.¡± Chloe, standing nearby, chimed in. ¡°He¡¯s not lying, they say it¡¯s what keeps him strong.¡± Aisha turned to her, incredulous. ¡°What? How? Why?¡± Exalibar shrugged. ¡°Do not question my biology. Not even I do that.¡± Aisha sighed, pinching the bridge of her nose. ¡°Let¡¯s be practical here. You don¡¯t sleep upside down, moving at 1,110 kilometers per hour, under ten times gravity.¡± Exalibar smirked. ¡°Fine, I won¡¯t argue further. I will, however¡ª¡± ¡°Do nothing and live with Dylan peacefully,¡± Aisha interrupted, her tone final. Exalibar had nothing more to say. He was in no position to make demands. He¡¯d just have to suck it up and deal with this Dylan. Dylan was a good-looking fellow, his light skin and fiery red hair with orange accents making him stand out. His eyes, a mesmerizing mix of red and orange, seemed to glow with a quiet intensity. He was around the same height as Exalibar, lean but with a confident posture. Reserved and calm, Dylan preferred to talk rather than act, earning him a reputation as someone who had no enemies. When Exalibar entered the room, Dylan greeted him with a warm smile. ¡°So,¡± Exalibar began, his tone curious, ¡°everyone here has powers. What¡¯s your specialty?¡± Dylan¡¯s lips curled into a faint smile. ¡°How curious are you?¡± ¡°Oh, very,¡± Exalibar replied, leaning forward. ¡°My powers are quite simple,¡± Dylan said, holding out his palm. A small flame flickered to life, dancing in the shape of a woman. ¡°Pyrokinesis. I don¡¯t just start and control flames. I can also do this.¡± Exalibar raised an eyebrow. ¡°Very nice. But is that all you do?¡± Aisha, who had been watching the exchange, rolled her eyes. ¡°Exalibar, stop bothering my brother with your endless questions.¡± Exalibar shot her a look. ¡°Endless questions? Like you¡¯re any better. Weren¡¯t you the one asking me a million questions while I was in the infirmary?¡± Dylan¡¯s eyes flicked to Aisha. ¡°What questions?¡± Aisha groaned. ¡°Please don¡¯t tell him.¡± Exalibar smirked. ¡°Hey, you heard the girl. But two super-siblings? Your parents must be proud.¡± Dylan¡¯s expression softened. ¡°They really aren¡¯t. They¡¯re superheroes, and Aisha here wants to be a doctor. Personally, I want to be an accountant, but they simply won¡¯t have it.¡± A case of content theft: this narrative is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation. Aisha clapped her hands together, drawing their attention. ¡°You know, Exalibar, you and Chloe don¡¯t really have clothes other than the ones I made for you, right?¡± Exalibar shrugged. ¡°It¡¯s not like I packed my bags before leaving the facility, now is it?¡± Dylan chuckled, his fiery eyes crinkling at the corners. Aisha sighed. ¡°I didn¡¯t mean it like that. What I wanted to say is, do you want to go shopping?¡± A voice from the doorway interrupted them. ¡°Yes, they do.¡± Exalibar turned to see James Maxford standing there, his tall frame filling the doorway. His sharp features and piercing black eyes gave him an air of authority, but there was a warmth to his smile that put them at ease. ¡°You heard him coming?¡± Aisha asked, surprised. Exalibar smirked. ¡°Yes, and it was like watching a turtle run a marathon.¡± James chuckled, stepping into the room. He handed Aisha a fat stack of cash and, with a wink, said, ¡°Don¡¯t spend it all in one place.¡± Then, with a wave, he added, ¡°Oh, and here are the keys. Now, if you¡¯ll excuse me, I have a meeting with the president in an hour. I¡¯m off.¡± Dylan called after him, ¡°Thanks!¡± Chloe blinked. ¡°The president?¡± Exalibar grinned. ¡°Sweet. I call shotgun!¡± Aisha shook her head, muttering, ¡°How do you know all this?¡± Exalibar shot her a look. ¡°Too many questions, yeesh.¡± Dylan nodded. ¡°He¡¯s right, you know.¡± Aisha shot him a glare. ¡°Oh, shut up, you smooth-brained dumbass.¡± Chloe winced. ¡°Ouch.¡± Exalibar chuckled. ¡°Oh, right, you were here. Sorta forgot she was there.¡± Aisha and Chloe headed to a boutique filled with colorful dresses, stylish tops, and accessories. Chloe¡¯s eyes widened as she took in the array of options. ¡°I¡¯ve never seen so many clothes in one place,¡± she said, her voice filled with awe. Aisha grinned, grabbing a floral sundress and holding it up to Chloe. ¡°This would look amazing on you. Try it on!¡± Chloe hesitated, her fingers brushing the soft fabric. ¡°I don¡¯t know¡ I¡¯ve never worn anything like this before.¡± ¡°Exactly!¡± Aisha said, pushing her toward the fitting room. ¡°That¡¯s the point of starting fresh, right? New clothes, new you!¡± As Chloe tried on the dress, Aisha continued to browse, picking out a pair of jeans, a leather jacket, and a few graphic tees. ¡°You know,¡± she said, her tone casual, ¡°you and Exalibar seem pretty close. What¡¯s the deal with you two?¡± Chloe stepped out of the fitting room, the sundress fitting her perfectly. She twirled slightly, the fabric swirling around her. ¡°There¡¯s no deal,¡± she said, her cheeks flushing. ¡°We¡¯re just¡ friends.¡± Aisha raised an eyebrow, her green eyes glinting with mischief. ¡°Friends, huh? You sure about that? Because the way he looks at you¡ª¡± ¡°He looks at me like I¡¯m a liability,¡± Chloe interrupted, her tone firm. ¡°He¡¯s always protecting me, even when I don¡¯t need it. It¡¯s¡ frustrating.¡± Aisha tilted her head, studying Chloe. ¡°Or maybe he cares about you more than he lets on. You ever think about that?¡± Chloe sighed, running a hand through her black hair. ¡°It¡¯s complicated. We¡¯ve been through a lot together. But that doesn¡¯t mean¡ I don¡¯t know. I just don¡¯t want to think about it right now.¡± Aisha nodded, her expression softening. ¡°Fair enough. But just so you know, if he ever hurts you, I¡¯ll turn him into a toaster.¡± Chloe laughed, the sound light and genuine. ¡°Thanks, Aisha. I¡¯ll keep that in mind.¡± Meanwhile, Dylan and Exalibar were in a more casual store, browsing through racks of t-shirts, hoodies, and jeans. ¡°So,¡± Dylan began, his tone casual, ¡°I hear you¡¯re the perfect fighting machine.¡± Exalibar¡¯s expression darkened slightly. ¡°I am¡ªor so I thought until recently.¡± ¡°Why¡¯s that?¡± Dylan asked, picking up a shirt and examining it. Exalibar hesitated, then sighed. ¡°You see, no matter how much damage I sustain, I¡¯m supposed to be able to walk away from it. Unless my ¡®death counter¡¯ is full, I don¡¯t pass out or collapse. But when I fought Chloe for the first time in my life, as that blast was headed for me, I felt the press of death. Somehow, I knew if I let it completely hit me, I would die then and there no coming back. And yet, somehow, I didn¡¯t. But my body felt like I¡¯d died three times. It¡¯s as if the rules were suddenly broken, and I had to deal with the consequences.¡±Dylan listened intently, his fiery eyes narrowing. ¡°You think Chloe¡¯s powers go beyond photons and blasts?¡± Exalibar nodded. ¡°There¡¯s something more. Something I fear will be the death of me. Even still, I feel the urge¡ªthe need, the subconscious desire¡ªto protect her. To be around her. Why? Even when I killed everyone, why didn¡¯t I kill her? It¡¯s like¡ I can¡¯t explain it.¡± Dylan placed a hand on Exalibar¡¯s shoulder. ¡°I feel you, bro. But really, did you have to get so deep? We¡¯re buying clothes, not reenacting a funeral.¡± Exalibar chuckled, the tension easing. ¡°Fair point.¡± Dylan picked out a sleek black jacket, a pair of dark jeans, and a shirt with a subtle flame design. ¡°What do you think?¡± he asked, holding up the shirt. Exalibar shrugged. ¡°Looks good. But I¡¯m more of a minimalist.¡± He grabbed a few plain t-shirts, a hoodie, and a pair of cargo pants. ¡°This¡¯ll do.¡± Dylan raised an eyebrow. ¡°You¡¯re not even going to try anything on?¡± Exalibar smirked. ¡°I don¡¯t need to. I know my size.¡± As they moved to the checkout, Dylan glanced at Exalibar. ¡°You know, you could try to blend in a little more. Maybe get something that doesn¡¯t scream ¡®I¡¯m a fugitive.¡¯¡± Exalibar chuckled. ¡°I¡¯ll keep that in mind.¡± Their conversation was interrupted by a loud shout. ¡°EVERYONE FREEZE! THIS IS A ROBBERY!¡± Exalibar turned to see a tall, armed man at the counter, his gun pointed at the cashier. Without hesitation, Exalibar darted forward, moving faster than the eye could see. He grabbed the robber and slammed his head into the counter, killing him instantly. Dylan sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose. ¡°Did you have to kill him?¡± Exalibar shrugged. ¡°Yes.¡± ¡°Heroes don¡¯t kill, dude,¡± Dylan said, his tone disapproving. Exalibar¡¯s expression hardened. ¡°I am not a hero, bro.¡± Before Dylan could respond, a second robber appeared at the door, firing an optical blast at Exalibar. The boy dodged effortlessly, his movements a blur. ¡°You know,¡± Exalibar said, his voice cold, ¡°heat vision hurts if you¡¯re on the receiving end.¡± With that, he fired back, vaporizing the robber¡¯s head in an instant. The store fell silent, but not because of the violence. Standing behind Dylan were two figures¡ªRonin and Valery, the world-renowned superheroes and Dylan¡¯s parents. ¡°Exalibar, I¡¯d like you to meet Ronin and Valery. My mom and dad.¡± **Chapter 5** The Primal Instinct As Exalibar stood there, facing Dylan¡¯s parents¡ªRonin and Valery, the world¡¯s greatest heroes¡ªhe couldn¡¯t help but feel a flicker of intimidation. Their presence was commanding, their reputation legendary. Yet, beneath the surface, something far stronger stirred within him. It wasn¡¯t fear. It was something darker, more primal. A voice in his mind, faint at first, grew louder, urging him to attack, to kill them where they stood. His fists clenched, his jaw tightened, and his blue eyes flickered with an unnatural red hue. Turning to Dylan, Exalibar leaned in and whispered, his voice strained, ¡°Bro, not to ruin the mood, but something¡¯s wrong.¡± Dylan frowned, his fiery eyes narrowing. ¡°Huh? What do you mean?¡± Exalibar¡¯s breathing grew shallow, his body trembling as if fighting an invisible force. ¡°Dude, it would be in your parents¡¯ best interest to leave. Now.¡± Dylan¡¯s expression shifted from confusion to concern. ¡°Really? Why?¡± Exalibar¡¯s voice dropped to a barely audible whisper. ¡°I¡ I don¡¯t know. It¡¯s like my body is forcing me to attack them. Like a primal instinct. And I don¡¯t know how much longer I can fight it.¡± Dylan hesitated, then turned to his parents. ¡°Uh, Mom, Dad¡ I think you should go.¡± Ronin, his icy blue eyes narrowing, crossed his arms. ¡°Now, son, don¡¯t be rude. We just got here.¡± Valery, her speedster reflexes making her movements almost imperceptible, stepped forward, her hand reaching out toward Exalibar. ¡°Are you alright¡ª¡± Before she could finish, Exalibar let out a guttural roar that echoed through the entire mall. His body moved faster than thought, lunging at Valery with terrifying speed. But before he could reach her, a blast of ice from Ronin sent him flying across the room, slamming him into a wall. Ronin¡¯s voice was calm but firm. ¡°Young man, I don¡¯t know what¡¯s happening to you but if I were you I would stand down.¡± Exalibar staggered to his feet, his eyes glowing brighter, his movements erratic. ¡°I warned you,¡± he growled, his voice distorted, almost inhuman. In an instant, he rushed Ronin again, but the hero froze the ground beneath Exalibar¡¯s feet, causing him to lose his footing. Exalibar retaliated with a blast of heat vision, which Ronin blocked with a shield of ice. The collision created a thick cloud of steam, obscuring Ronin from view. Exalibar used the smokescreen to his advantage, darting behind Ronin and unleashing a flurry of punches. But before he could land a decisive blow, Valery swept in, her speed unmatched, and knocked him aside. Exalibar snarled, his movements becoming more feral. He knew he was slower than Valery, but he was a fighter, trained from birth. Drawing on the abilities he¡¯d absorbed, he created another smokescreen using evaporated ice, disorienting Valery. She countered by spinning her arms rapidly, creating a vortex that dispersed the steam. But as the air cleared, she found herself staring at an ice sculpture of Exalibar. The real Exalibar was already behind her, sweeping her legs and pinning her to the ground. The tale has been illicitly lifted; should you spot it on Amazon, report the violation. ¡°I warned you,¡± he jeered, his voice dripping with malice. Before he could strike, a searing blast of fire knocked him back. Dylan stood a few feet away, his hands glowing with intense heat. ¡°This ends now!¡± he shouted. ¡°Incineration Cannon!¡± Dylan had been quietly gathering hydrogen and oxygen from the air, channelling it into a concentrated blast of fire. The explosion sent Exalibar flying, his body crashing into a wall. He groaned, dislocating his shoulder in the process, but with a sickening pop, he forced it back into place. Exalibar¡¯s eyes glowed red as he charged up another attack, but before he could unleash it, Ronin appeared behind him. In one swift motion, the hero drew his sword and decapitated Exalibar. The room fell silent. Dylan and Aisha, who had been watching from a distance with Chloe, screamed in horror. Aisha collapsed to her knees, sobbing. ¡°You killed him!¡± Ronin¡¯s voice was cold, his expression unreadable. ¡°Better than him killing your brother.¡± Aisha¡¯s voice trembled with anger. ¡°You could have restrained him! Frozen him! Not¡ not this!¡± Chloe, her purple eyes filled with a strange calm, knelt beside Aisha. ¡°Don¡¯t cry,¡± she said softly. ¡°He isn¡¯t dead. Rule of three, remember? That¡¯s death one. He still has two more.¡± As if on cue, Exalibar¡¯s headless body began to rise. His neck glowed faintly as a new head regenerated in seconds. Ronin gripped his sword, ready to strike again, but Aisha stepped in front of him, her green eyes blazing with defiance. ¡°No!¡± she shouted. ¡°You¡¯re not killing him again!¡± Ronin hesitated, then lowered his sword. Instead, he flash-froze Exalibar, encasing him in a block of ice. Chloe stepped forward, her voice steady. ¡°Now what?¡± Aisha wiped her tears, her resolve hardening. ¡°Now we take him back home and figure out what caused this.¡± Ronin¡¯s gaze shifted to Chloe. ¡°And if he attacks you?¡± Chloe¡¯s eyes glowed faintly. ¡°I¡¯ll handle him.¡± Ronin raised an eyebrow. ¡°Aisha, you trust this girl can take care of him?¡± Dylan, his voice tinged with uncertainty, added, ¡°She¡¯ll try.¡± Chloe¡¯s tone was firm. ¡°Not try. Do.¡± Ronin nodded, sheathing his sword. ¡°Very well. My children, it was¡ eventful seeing you. I need to seek medical attention for your mother and myself. We¡¯ll visit once she¡¯s well.¡± Dylan sighed, running a hand through his fiery hair. ¡°And the criminals and damage here?¡± Ronin waved a hand dismissively. ¡°My sidekicks will take care of it.¡± As Ronin and Valery left, Dylan turned to Aisha and Chloe. ¡°Let¡¯s get him home.¡± Back at the facility, they rushed Exalibar to the lab. Aisha, her hands steady despite the chaos, began running tests while Exalibar remained sedated and restrained. Chloe watched silently, her purple eyes filled with concern. After what felt like hours, Aisha finally spoke. ¡°I found it. There was an inhibitor chip embedded in his spine. It was sending those commands, forcing him to attack.¡± Chloe¡¯s fists clenched. ¡°The doctor. He¡¯s still controlling him.¡± Aisha nodded; her expression grim. ¡°I removed the chip, but we¡¯ll need to monitor him closely. Also, there is more. He has this¡.. energy, actually 2 types. 1 is showing signs of it being the origin of his ability to copy other powers. His body manipulates the energy into a form that replicates the abilities of others. The second one however is strange. Its constant and doesn¡¯t seem react to anything I do, even with my powers I can¡¯t convert it to mass.¡± Exalibar stirred, his eyes fluttering open. ¡°Wh-what happened? Where¡¯s Dylan?¡± Dylan stepped forward; his fiery eyes filled with relief. ¡°I¡¯m here, bro. You¡¯re okay.¡± Exalibar¡¯s voice was hoarse. ¡°Oh no¡ what did I do? Did I kill them?¡± Chloe placed a hand on his shoulder, her touch calming. ¡°You almost did, but they stopped you. It wasn¡¯t your fault.¡± Exalibar¡¯s face twisted with guilt. ¡°It was like a voice in my head, telling me to kill them over and over. Then it said some codes, and I blacked out.¡± Aisha sighed, her green eyes softening. ¡°You were being controlled, Exalibar. But it¡¯s over now. The chip is gone.¡± Dylan smirked, trying to lighten the mood. ¡°See, bro? This is why we don¡¯t let our intrusive thoughts win.¡± Exalibar managed a weak smile, but his eyes were haunted. ¡°I thought I was rid of the doctor. I should¡¯ve killed him before I left.¡± Chloe¡¯s voice was firm, her purple eyes locking onto his. ¡°Don¡¯t worry. We¡¯re finally rid of him.¡± Exalibar leaned back, his grey hair damp with sweat. ¡°I hope so¡¡± **To Be Continued¡** **Chapter 6** First Day of School Following the events of their shopping trip, Exalibar discovered that his ties to the facility were far from broken. But for now, those concerns took a backseat to a new challenge: his first day of school. It was a day he never imagined he would experience. James had decided that, for Exalibar and Chloe to integrate properly with other kids, they needed to be in a more conventional environment. Luckily, there were schools that accepted superpowered students without question, thanks to James¡¯s influence. He had even provided them with identification¡ªbirth certificates, IDs, and fabricated school records. Exalibar¡¯s full name was now Exalibar Maxford, taking James¡¯s surname, while Chloe chose the name Chloe Chase for herself. The facility James ran was for the exceptionally powerful¡ªthose whose abilities were too dangerous or uncontrollable for ordinary schools. Most humans had minor abilities, like enhanced senses or weak telepathy, but the students at James¡¯s facility wielded powers like gravity control, pyrokinesis, and alchemy. Under normal circumstances, Exalibar and Chloe would have been enrolled there, but for the sake of social integration, they were sent to a regular school. Coincidentally, this was where Aisha and Dylan attended when they weren¡¯t training at the facility. Exalibar crossed his arms, his grey hair catching the morning light as he glared at James. ¡°I get it. We¡¯re not accustomed to normal social conventions, but going to school is a waste of time for me. I already know most of what I need to know. Remember? Force-fed information. The same applies to Chloe.¡± Chloe, standing beside him, rolled her purple eyes. ¡°Speak for yourself. I actually want to go to school.¡± Exalibar raised an eyebrow. ¡°For what?¡± ¡°A full-rounded experience,¡± Chloe replied, her tone firm. ¡°I want to make friends, learn new things, and just¡ live.¡± Exalibar knew he was outnumbered. His defeat was cemented when Aisha chimed in, her green eyes sparkling with enthusiasm. ¡°School¡¯s not just about academics, Exalibar. It¡¯s about growing as a person.¡± Dylan, leaning against the wall with his fiery red hair catching the light, added, ¡°And it¡¯s fun. You might actually enjoy it.¡± Exalibar sighed, realizing there was no winning this argument. His fate was sealed. Upon arriving at the school, they were greeted by Principal Bradley, a short, stout man with a commanding presence. His light skin and blond hair contrasted with his dark brown eyes, which seemed to miss nothing. He shook James¡¯s hand warmly. ¡°Mr. Maxford, welcome. Thank you for your generous donation to the school. We¡¯re honoured to have your children here.¡± James smiled, placing a hand on Exalibar¡¯s shoulder. ¡°Thank you, Principal Bradley. I trust they¡¯ll be in good hands.¡± As James left, Aisha and Dylan led Exalibar and Chloe on a tour of the school. They passed through the cafeteria, the library, and the sports field, each area bustling with students. Exalibar couldn¡¯t help but notice the diversity of abilities around him¡ªstudents with glowing eyes, others floating slightly above the ground, and some with faint auras of energy surrounding them. As they walked, Exalibar¡¯s instincts suddenly flared. A boy with an intense aura passed by his presence sending a shiver down Exalibar¡¯s spine. The boy¡¯s dark hair and piercing green eyes seemed to lock onto Exalibar for a moment before he disappeared into the crowd. ¡°Who was that?¡± Exalibar asked, his voice low. Dylan glanced in the direction the boy had gone. ¡°Oh, that¡¯s Ethan. He¡¯s¡ intense. His power is energy absorption. He can drain the energy from anything¡ªpeople, machines, even the air. Just stay out of his way.¡± Exalibar nodded, filing the information away for later. The bell rang, signalling the start of classes. Exalibar and Chloe stood at the door of their first-period classroom, waiting to be introduced. The teacher, Ms. Smith, was a tall, slim woman in her early thirties with blond hair and light blue eyes. Her warm smile immediately put the class at ease. Unauthorized usage: this narrative is on Amazon without the author''s consent. Report any sightings. ¡°Good morning, everyone,¡± Ms. Smith said, her voice cheerful. ¡°Today, we have two new students joining us. Please welcome Chloe Chase and Exalibar Maxford.¡± Chloe stepped forward first, her purple eyes scanning the room. ¡°Hi, everyone. I¡¯m Chloe Chase. I¡¯m 17, and my powers are energy blasts. I hope we can all be friends.¡± The class erupted into applause, particularly from the boys, who were clearly impressed by Chloe¡¯s charm and beauty. She took a step back, allowing Exalibar to introduce himself. Exalibar stepped forward, his blue eyes cool and confident. ¡°Good morning. I¡¯m Exalibar Maxford, also 17. My abilities? Let¡¯s just say I¡¯m a jack of all trades. I look forward to getting to know all of you.¡± The girls in the class broke into applause, their eyes lingering on Exalibar¡¯s tall, lean frame and striking features. The boys, however, exchanged sceptical glances. ¡°Jack of all trades? What does that even mean?¡± one of them muttered. Ms. Smith gestured for the two to take their seats. Chloe sat beside Jack, a boy with the ability to control and alter his muscles at will. Exalibar found himself next to Jessica, a girl with minor telekinesis. As the lesson began, Exalibar remained mostly silent, answering only when directly addressed. Chloe, on the other hand, was lively and engaged, soaking in the full school experience. At lunch, the four friends sat together, their table a hub of chatter and laughter. Dylan leaned back in his chair, a mischievous grin on his face. ¡°So, you guys ready for PE after lunch? Dodgeball is on the agenda.¡± Chloe¡¯s eyes lit up. ¡°Of course! I bet I can beat every girl in field and track.¡± Aisha smirked. ¡°Not every girl¡¡± Exalibar, ever confident, lifted his shirt slightly to reveal his chiselled abs. ¡°Personally, no one can beat me. I can take on anyone.¡± Dylan raised an eyebrow. ¡°Oh yeah? Try Jack. He¡¯s on your team.¡± Exalibar frowned. ¡°Who?¡± ¡°Jack. The guy sitting next to Chloe,¡± Dylan explained. Exalibar shrugged. ¡°Sure. But wait¡ªwhy are we even here? I thought the world shunned people like us. And didn¡¯t you say James¡¯s facility is for kids without parents or those whose parents want them to be heroes? None of this adds up.¡± Aisha and Dylan exchanged a glance. ¡°We never said that¡± Aisha replied. Dylan nodded. ¡°Yeah, none of us ever said that.¡± Exalibar¡¯s expression darkened as he realized the inhibitor chip Aisha had removed had done more than control him¡ªit had altered his memories, feeding him false information. The world he thought he knew was a lie. He clenched his fists, his voice low. ¡°Forget the past. I¡¯m not someone¡¯s weapon anymore. I¡¯m my own person now.¡± Chloe placed a hand on his shoulder. ¡°Let¡¯s focus on the present. Grab your sports uniform. It¡¯s time for dodgeball.¡± The gymnasium buzzed with excitement as the class divided into two teams of ten. Jack, the muscular boy with control over his body, led Team A, while Dylan led Team B. The rules were simple: no face shots, abilities were allowed, and the first team to eliminate all opponents won. The game began with Team B winning the coin toss. Dylan took the first throw, his fiery eyes narrowing as he calculated his move. He hurled the ball with incredible speed, using a small blast of fire to propel it even faster. The ball ricocheted off one player and headed straight for Zayn, a boy with enhanced perception but slow reflexes. Zayn closed his eyes, bracing for impact, but Exalibar darted in, catching the ball effortlessly. ¡°That¡¯s a point for Team A,¡± the teacher declared. Exalibar smirked, holding the ball in one hand. ¡°You good, Zayn?¡± Zayn nodded, still in shock. ¡°Thanks, man.¡± Exalibar turned to Dylan. ¡°You might as well forfeit now.¡± Dylan grinned. ¡°In your dreams.¡± Exalibar threw the ball with precision, but Dan, a boy on Dylan¡¯s team, used his air manipulation to alter its trajectory, causing it to miss. ¡°Cheap move,¡± Exalibar muttered. Aisha, standing nearby, shrugged. ¡°Use of powers is allowed, remember?¡± The game intensified as both teams unleashed their abilities. One by one members of each team fell till only Exalibar, Chloe and Dylan remained. Chloe used her energy blasts to deflect incoming balls, while Aisha¡¯s alchemy created barriers to protect her teammates. Dylan¡¯s pyrokinesis heated the air, creating mirages that disoriented Team A. Exalibar, relying on his speed and agility, dodged and countered with precision. In the final moments, Exalibar seized an opportunity. He threw the ball at Dylan, but Chloe intercepted it with an energy blast, sending it spinning back to Exalibar. He caught it, spun to match its rotation, and hurled it back with incredible force. The ball struck Chloe, bounced off, and hit Dylan, eliminating them both. The gym erupted in cheers as Team A claimed victory. Exalibar and Chloe, despite being on opposing teams, were celebrated for their incredible skills. The match had not only been a display of power but also a lesson in teamwork and sportsmanship. As the excitement died down, the students gathered to congratulate each other. Exalibar found himself surrounded by new admirers, including Jessica, who had been quietly impressed by his performance. ¡°You were amazing out there,¡± she said, her telekinetic abilities causing a pen to float lazily beside her. Exalibar smiled. ¡°Thanks. You¡¯re not so bad yourself.¡± Meanwhile, Chloe was chatting with Jack, who seemed equally impressed by her energy blasts. ¡°You¡¯ve got some serious power,¡± he said, flexing his muscles unconsciously. ¡°We should train together sometime.¡± Chloe grinned. ¡°I¡¯d like that.¡± As the day came to an end, Exalibar couldn¡¯t help but feel a sense of belonging. For the first time, he was surrounded by people who accepted him for who he was¡ªnot as a weapon, but as a person. The past was behind him, and the future was full of possibilities. **To Be Continued¡** **Chapter 7**A New Normal Many weeks had passed since Exalibar and Chloe arrived at James Maxford¡¯s doorstep. If not for his kindness, the two would have undoubtedly been recaptured¡ªor worse. Their new life, however, was not without complications. The most significant of these was the injuries Exalibar had unintentionally inflicted on Valery, one of the world¡¯s greatest heroes. During his uncontrollable episode, he had broken seven of her ribs, fractured her spine in three places, punctured her right lung, and caused a severe concussion. Valery had been left comatose for a month, and though she eventually recovered, her injuries had lasting effects. Her coordination and balance were ruined, and she was now confined to a wheelchair for most of the day. Her days as a hero were over. Valery accepted her fate with grace, but the world did not. The news of her retirement sent shockwaves through society. Crime rates skyrocketed, and lawlessness seemed to reign supreme. To make matters worse, Ronin, her husband and fellow hero, retired to care for her, leaving a power vacuum that villains were quick to fill. The world was in chaos, and Exalibar couldn¡¯t help but feel a pang of guilt every time he saw the news. Despite the turmoil in the outside world, Exalibar and Chloe had settled into their new lives at school. The initial awkwardness of being the ¡°new kids¡± had faded, and they had begun to form friendships. Chloe, with her vibrant personality and natural charm, quickly became one of the most popular students. She joined the debate team, excelled in her classes, and even started a study group that met every Thursday after school. Exalibar, on the other hand, was more reserved. He preferred to keep to himself, though he couldn¡¯t deny the growing bond between him and Aisha. The two had become inseparable, often spending hours together in the lab or sneaking out for late-night adventures. Their chemistry was undeniable, though neither of them had acknowledged it openly. One afternoon, as they sat together in the school courtyard, Aisha turned to Exalibar with a mischievous grin. ¡°You know, you¡¯re not as scary as you pretend to be.¡± Exalibar raised an eyebrow, his blue eyes glinting with amusement. ¡°And you¡¯re not as subtle as you think you are.¡± Aisha laughed, her green eyes sparkling. ¡°Touch¨¦. But seriously, you¡¯ve been different lately. More¡ relaxed. It¡¯s nice.¡± Exalibar shrugged, leaning back against the tree. ¡°Maybe I¡¯m just getting used to this whole ¡®normal life¡¯ thing.¡± Aisha nudged him playfully. ¡°Normal? With you around? Never.¡± One evening, Exalibar¡¯s phone buzzed urgently. It was Aisha. Her voice was tense, and she insisted he come to her room immediately. Exalibar, used to her dramatic tendencies, sighed but complied. When he flung open her door, he found her lounging on her bed, laptop in hand. This narrative has been purloined without the author''s approval. Report any appearances on Amazon. ¡°For the last time,¡± Exalibar said, crossing his arms, ¡°don¡¯t make it sound like an emergency whenever you call me.¡± Aisha grinned, unbothered. ¡°I know, I know. But it makes you get here quicker. And this is an actual emergency. Well, for you at least.¡± Exalibar sighed, sitting on the edge of her bed. ¡°What¡¯s up?¡± Aisha¡¯s expression turned serious as she explained her findings. After running tests on his blood samples, she discovered what the second energy was. Unclassifiable she called it M2 the energy of resurrection. It was why he was able to come back from the dead. She also found out that M2 can be destroyed unlike regular energy. The moment it comes into contact with Chloe¡¯s energy blasts, it rapidly decreases leaving his supply almost dwindling if they fight. Exalibar took the news in stride, though Aisha could see the flicker of concern in his eyes. ¡°I¡¯ll be fine,¡± he said, standing to leave. Aisha reached out, her voice softening. ¡°Exalibar, it¡¯s okay to be afraid, you know.¡± He paused at the door, his back to her. ¡°I know.¡± Later that night, Exalibar woke to the sound of his window creaking open. He sat up, instantly alert, and noticed a figure slipping into his room. Before they could react, he grabbed them, pinning them to the floor. ¡°Dude, let go!¡± the figure hissed. Exalibar blinked, recognizing the voice. ¡°Aisha?¡± ¡°Yes, now let me go!¡± she whispered, struggling against his grip. Exalibar released her, helping her to her feet. ¡°What are you doing here? It¡¯s 11 p.m.¡± Aisha brushed herself off, her expression urgent. ¡°I need your help. There¡¯s a bank robbery happening tonight, and I can¡¯t stop it alone.¡± Exalibar groaned, running a hand through his grey hair. ¡°Right now? Can¡¯t it wait?¡± Aisha shook her head. ¡°Exalibar, I wouldn¡¯t ask if it wasn¡¯t serious. They¡¯re planning to hit the bank tonight, and we don¡¯t have the luxury of time.¡± Reluctantly, Exalibar agreed. Aisha used her alchemy to create black outfits for both of them, ensuring they wouldn¡¯t be recognized. They snuck out of the house and drove to the bank in James¡¯s black Lexus, the only inconspicuous car in the garage. On the way, Aisha laid out her rules: no lethal force and only attack if attacked. Exalibar argued that the robbers were armed and dangerous and waiting for them to strike first was a death sentence. Aisha countered that killing was wrong and that everyone deserved a second chance. Exalibar reluctantly agreed to follow her lead, though he made it clear he wouldn¡¯t hesitate to act if things went south. When they arrived at the bank, the scene was chaotic. Three police officers had their guns trained on a man holding a hostage, while two others lay injured. Five robbers were scattered throughout the room, their weapons drawn. One of them, a man with bloodstained gauntlets, stood out as the most dangerous. Exalibar and Aisha slipped inside unnoticed, their black outfits blending into the shadows. Exalibar quickly assessed the situation, his eyes narrowing as he identified the threats. The man holding the hostage was armed with a handgun, while the others appeared to have abilities. ¡°Ladies and gentlemen,¡± Exalibar announced, stepping into the light, ¡°remain calm. We¡¯re here to save you.¡± The robbers turned, their expressions a mix of shock and anger. The man with the handgun fired at Exalibar, but he dodged effortlessly, closing the distance in an instant. He disarmed the man with a swift strike, knocking him unconscious with a clean clothesline. ¡°Alright,¡± Exalibar said, turning to the remaining robbers, ¡°who¡¯s next?¡± **To Be Continued¡** **Chapter 8** The Gauntlet The bank fell silent as Exalibar stood over the unconscious body of Handgun, his grey hair catching the dim light. The remaining robbers froze, their eyes darting between Exalibar and their fallen comrade. Gauntlets, the leader of the group, narrowed his eyes, his bloodstained gauntlets glowing faintly as he assessed the situation. This boy was faster than he¡¯d anticipated, but speed alone wouldn¡¯t save him. Gauntlets lunged forward, his gauntlets humming with energy. He swung at Exalibar with 30% of his maximum output¡ªenough to send a full-grown African elephant flying. But Exalibar dodged effortlessly, his movements a blur. To a speedster, Gauntlets¡¯ attacks were slow and predictable. However, Gauntlets wasn¡¯t a one-trick pony. As his fist missed, he spun and redirected his blow toward the ground. The impact shattered the bank¡¯s floor, destabilizing the building and sending debris flying. Exalibar¡¯s eyes widened as the ground beneath him crumbled. ¡°Aisha!¡± he shouted, his voice urgent. Aisha, standing near the entrance, raised her hands. Her alchemic powers surged, and the shattered floor began to repair itself, the cracks sealing as if time were reversing. Gauntlets growled in frustration. He hadn¡¯t accounted for the girl. If he was going to win, he¡¯d have to take her out first. Switching the panel on his gauntlet, Gauntlets entered a code. The gauntlets expanded, forming a full exosuit that encased his body. The suit hummed with power, its glowing veins pulsing with energy. Exalibar smirked, his blue eyes glinting with defiance. ¡°Isn¡¯t that supposed to be your last-ditch effort? Or are you just showing off?¡± Gauntlets¡¯ voice was cold, his tone dripping with menace. ¡°This ain¡¯t a game, kid. It¡¯s all or nothing.¡± Exalibar shrugged, his confidence unshaken. ¡°Isn¡¯t it, though?¡± Gauntlets took an aggressive stance, his exosuit whirring as it powered up. ¡°I don¡¯t wanna hurt a kid. But I also don¡¯t like people getting in my way. Last chance. Leave the bank, or perish trying to play hero.¡± Exalibar didn¡¯t respond. Instead, he braced himself, his body tense and ready. Gauntlets dashed forward, the exosuit operating at 60% maximum output¡ªenough to level an entire city block if used correctly. Exalibar had seen this kind of technology before, back at the facility. He knew its weaknesses. As Gauntlets threw a devastating punch, Exalibar didn¡¯t dodge. Instead, he ran toward him, grabbing the fist and pulling Gauntlets off balance. Gauntlets expected a clothesline, but Exalibar had other plans. Placing his hand on Gauntlets¡¯ abdomen, Exalibar used his momentum to throw him out of the bank, sending him crashing into the street. The story has been illicitly taken; should you find it on Amazon, report the infringement. Exalibar followed, landing gracefully a few feet away. ¡°Lethal or non-lethal?¡± he asked, his tone casual. ¡°Your choice.¡± Gauntlets snarled, his exosuit glowing brighter. ¡°You¡¯re dead, kid.¡± Gauntlets upped the exosuit¡¯s power to 70%, the air around him crackling with energy. He punched the air, sending a shockwave that knocked Exalibar off his feet. Before Exalibar could recover, Gauntlets dashed behind him, delivering a spin kick to his spine that sent him flying forward. Exalibar hit the ground hard, but he rolled to his feet just as Gauntlets closed in again, this time aiming a brutal punch at his gut. The blow connected, sending Exalibar soaring into the air. Gauntlets waited for him to crash back down, confident the impact would finish him. But as Exalibar fell, he twisted his body, using the momentum to deliver a powerful kick to Gauntlets¡¯ head. The force shattered Exalibar¡¯s leg and the gauntlet Gauntlets had used to block, but it was enough to knock him off his feet. Exalibar landed awkwardly, his broken leg buckling beneath him. He didn¡¯t have time to recover. Gauntlets was already back on his feet, his exosuit now operating at 80% power. The ground trembled as he charged, his fists glowing with destructive energy. Exalibar gritted his teeth, his mind racing. He couldn¡¯t keep up with Gauntlets¡¯ increasing power. He needed to end this, fast. Summoning every ounce of strength, he propelled himself forward, his good leg driving him like a spring. He grabbed Gauntlets by the head and slammed him into the ground, the impact creating a small crater. But Gauntlets wasn¡¯t done. With a roar, he pushed himself up, flipping behind Exalibar and delivering a devastating punch that tore through Exalibar¡¯s chest. Gauntlets ripped out his heart, holding it aloft as Exalibar collapsed to his knees. ¡°I win,¡± Gauntlets sneered, tossing the heart aside. Exalibar¡¯s vision blurred, his body growing cold. But he wasn¡¯t finished yet. With the last of his strength, he chopped off Gauntlets¡¯ arm at the joint, the severed limb falling to the ground with a sickening thud. Gauntlets staggered back, clutching the stump where his arm had been. ¡°How?!¡± he roared, his voice filled with rage and disbelief. ¡°No matter. You¡¯ll die soon enough.¡± Exalibar couldn¡¯t respond. His body was failing, his consciousness slipping away. Without a heart, he had only seconds before he passed out. Even if his regeneration kicked in, it would take too long. He had to act now. Summoning the last of his strength, Exalibar propelled himself forward, using Gauntlets¡¯ own severed arm as a weapon. He aimed for Gauntlets¡¯ neck, the blade-like edge of the arm slicing through flesh and bone. Gauntlets¡¯ head rolled to the ground, his body collapsing in a heap. Exalibar fell to his knees, his vision darkening. ¡°10 seconds,¡± he muttered, his voice barely audible. ¡°I have to make it back¡ to the bank¡¡± He crawled forward, dragging himself across the ground. The world around him blurred, his strength fading with every inch. But then, through the haze, he saw a figure approaching. A familiar figure. Ronin. **To Be Continued¡** **Chapter 9** The Aftermath 10 seconds. That¡¯s all Exalibar had before his body would shut down. 10 seconds that could mean the difference between life and death. But for the first time in a long while, Exalibar felt hope. The last thing he saw before his vision faded was Ronin, the former world¡¯s strongest hero, stepping onto the scene. Exalibar knew everything would be all right now. All he had to do was wait. Ronin had sworn off the life of a hero. After his wife, Valery, was critically injured, he had retired to care for her, leaving behind the world of capes and villains. But when the military called, informing him of stolen hardware and a situation too dangerous for ordinary forces, he could not ignore it. At first, he refused. He had left that life behind. But then he turned on the news and saw Exalibar¡ªthe boy who had unintentionally ended Valery¡¯s career¡ªfighting Gauntlets, putting his own life on the line to protect others. As a parent, as an adult, Ronin felt compelled to help. Donning his suit one last time, he rushed out of the house and flew to the bank. When he arrived, he was met with the gruesome sight of Gauntlets¡¯ severed head lying on the ground. The boy had done the impossible. But Ronin¡¯s hero instincts told him there were more robbers inside the bank. He dashed in, ready for a fight, only to find the remaining criminals tied up and Aisha using her alchemy to repair the damage. ¡°Had Exalibar dispatched the initial robbers before dealing with Gauntlets?¡± Ronin wondered. It seemed unlikely¡ªthe boy wouldn¡¯t have had enough time. Then it hit him. Aisha. His daughter, who had always expressed zero interest in becoming a hero, was standing there, her hands glowing as she worked. Why now? And why with Exalibar, the boy who had forced him and Valery into early retirement? The questions swirled in his mind, leaving him momentarily stunned. Aisha noticed her father spacing out and shook his arm gently. ¡°Dad? Dad?¡± Ronin blinked, snapping out of his thoughts. ¡°Oh, Aisha¡¡± ¡°You kind of spaced out there,¡± she said, her green eyes filled with concern. ¡°Is everything alright?¡± Ronin forced a smile. ¡°Yeah, just¡ taking in all the heroic work you¡¯ve done here. This was you, right?¡± Aisha¡¯s face lit up with pride. ¡°Oh, definitely! You know, I never wanted this hero stuff, but today¡ wow, just WOW. Let me tell you how I stopped them!¡± She launched into an animated explanation, her excitement palpable. ¡°When Exalibar launched himself out with Gauntlets, I quickly made four walls to protect the people, just in case. Then I ran into the vault, and this guy shot at me¡ªcan you believe it? His aim was terrible, though, so he missed. I hit him with a pillar straight out of the ground, knocked him into the roof, and then removed all the oxygen from the room to knock out the rest. Oh, and don¡¯t worry¡ªI made a mask so I could breathe. I¡¯m actually thinking of joining the hero stuff now, but maybe staying on the sidelines. I mean, can you imagine if I came here alone? I¡¯d probably be seriously injured¡ªor worse!¡± If you discover this narrative on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen. Please report the violation. Ronin listened, a mix of pride and worry swelling in his chest. This was a side of Aisha he rarely saw. She had always admired her mother but never admitted to wanting to follow in her footsteps, knowing the risks. Now, standing in the middle of a bank she had helped save, Aisha was glowing with the kind of excitement Ronin hadn¡¯t seen in years. As Ronin pondered how to break the news to Valery, Exalibar stumbled into the bank, his body battered but healing. He looked around, taking in the scene. The robbers were tied up, the hostages were safe, and Aisha was beaming with pride. It was a job well done. ¡°Did you guys know there were news helicopters recording my fight with Gauntlets?¡± Exalibar asked, his voice weak but laced with humour. He turned to Ronin, his blue eyes filled with respect. ¡°Ah, Ronin. How are you, sir? How is Mrs. Valery¡¯s recovery coming along?¡± Ronin¡¯s expression softened. ¡°Her recovery is coming along well. The doctors say she will be able to do menial tasks on her own in a few weeks, but they don¡¯t expect her to return to hero work.¡± Exalibar¡¯s face fell. ¡°I¡¯m so sorry to hear that, sir.¡± Ronin waved a hand dismissively. ¡°It¡¯s quite alright, young man. She was looking for a way to retire anyway.¡± He chuckled, though there was a hint of sadness in his voice. ¡°And by the way, yes, they recorded your fight. That¡¯s how I knew where to go and rushed here as soon as I could.¡± Aisha¡¯s excitement faded as a new worry crept in. ¡°Oh no, this is bad. Very, very bad. If people saw how powerful Exalibar is, he¡¯ll be expelled from school. Powerhouses like him aren¡¯t allowed to attend our institution asides from the exception of us and Jake.¡± Ronin placed a reassuring hand on her shoulder. ¡°I¡¯ll put in a good word. It¡¯ll be alright.¡± ¡°I hope so, because I¡¯m not looking for another school for you,¡± said James as he stepped out of his car, his voice carrying a mix of relief and exasperation. He rushed over to Exalibar, his eyes scanning the boy for injuries. ¡°Are you okay my boy? Did he hurt or break anything?¡± Exalibar raised his hands in mock surrender. ¡°I¡¯m fine, James. Just a few cuts and scrapes.¡± James wasn¡¯t convinced. He spent the next five minutes conducting a thorough inspection, followed by ten minutes of full-body scans using a portable device from his car. Finally, he sighed in relief. ¡°No serious injuries. Aisha¡¯s unharmed, and Exalibar¡¯s healing up nicely. But this is not over.¡± For today, they had won. But tomorrow, they faced an even bigger battle: the school board of directors. Exalibar¡¯s display of power had been broadcast to the world, and the rules were clear. Students with overwhelming abilities were not allowed to attend regular schools. If the board decided to expel him, it would mean losing the fragile sense of normalcy he had fought so hard to achieve. As they drove back to the facility, Exalibar leaned his head against the window, his mind racing. He had faced Gauntlets, survived without a heart, and even impressed Ronin. But the thought of losing his place at school¡ªof losing the life he was starting to build¡ªwas a battle he wasn¡¯t sure he could win. **To Be Continued¡** **Chapter 10** The DNA Test The principal¡¯s office was tense, the air thick with unspoken accusations. Principal Bradley leaned forward in his chair, his hands steepled as he addressed James Maxford. ¡°We will not house such madness. No child should be able to take down a grown man alone, much less one in a military grade suit of armour. Exalibar is a powerhouse, Mr. Maxford. You do know that powerhouses aren¡¯t allowed tuition here. I hope you can find another place for your¡ son to learn.¡± The principal¡¯s tone was firm, but there was a flicker of fear in his eyes. He wanted Exalibar as far away as possible, out of fear for his own life and the safety of his students. ¡°In fact,¡± he continued, his voice sharp, ¡°I¡¯m not entirely sure that the young man is your son. It¡¯s a well-known fact that you, sir, are barren and cannot have children. So, for a son to just pop up out of the blue is¡ questionable. Mr. Maxford, who really is this young man?¡± James sat calmly, his expression unreadable. ¡°Exalibar is my son. Nothing more, nothing less. I had a one-night stand with a woman a long time ago, and miraculously, she fell pregnant. To protect my child from the dangers of my life¡ªand from those who might seek to harm him¡ªI hid both him and his mother. However, due to his mother¡¯s death, I had to take him back. A growing young man needs a parent, a father to look up to. I couldn¡¯t hide him any longer, so I brought him home. It¡¯s as simple as that, Principal.¡± Principal Bradley narrowed his eyes, clearly unconvinced. ¡°But you see, Mr. Maxford, that¡¯s where I don¡¯t believe you. For a boy this powerful to be hidden is quite a difficult task.¡± James leaned back in his chair, his tone calm but firm. ¡°I have money and resources, Principal. You do know that, right?¡± The principal hesitated, then pressed a button on his desk. ¡°Bring him in.¡± The door opened, and a man in a black trench coat entered. He was tall and oddly slim for his height, with jet-black hair and eyes so dark they seemed to absorb the light. His presence was unsettling, his aura radiating despair and brokenness. ¡°Mr. Maxford,¡± the principal said, gesturing to the man, ¡°this is Kendrick. He has the ability to identify DNA with just a touch of his hand. He¡¯s a last resort for parents who believe a child isn¡¯t theirs, and trust me, he is never wrong.¡± Kendrick stepped forward, his voice low and monotone. ¡°Mr. Maxford, if it¡¯s not too much to ask, could I have a sample of your DNA?¡± James raised an eyebrow. ¡°Will blood do?¡± Kendrick nodded, pulling a switchblade from his coat. ¡°Blood will suffice. Don¡¯t worry¡ªit¡¯s new. Bought it just for you.¡± This story is posted elsewhere by the author. Help them out by reading the authentic version. James reached into his suit pocket and pulled out a handkerchief. He cut his finger with the blade, letting a few drops of blood fall onto the cloth. Exalibar, who had been silent up until this point, handed him a small cup. James let his blood drip into it. Exalibar didn¡¯t need a knife; he simply bit his finger until it bled and placed his blood in a separate cup. As Kendrick prepared to analyse the samples, Exalibar¡¯s mind raced. He knew he wasn¡¯t James¡¯s son, and he could tell Kendrick¡¯s powers were genuine. He was in a tight spot, but James¡¯s composure kept him from speaking up. Kendrick dipped a finger into each cup, his eyes glowing red as he analysed the DNA. After ten seconds of silence, he pulled his fingers out and asked for a towel to clean his hands. ¡°Well?¡± the principal asked, his voice tense. Kendrick¡¯s expression was unreadable. ¡°DNA samples confirm that Exalibar is indeed Mr. Maxford¡¯s biological offspring.¡± Exalibar¡¯s eyes widened in shock, but he quickly masked his surprise. A wave of relief washed over him. He assumed James had paid off Kendrick in advance, but the truth was far more complicated. The principal sighed, adjusting his glasses. ¡°I see. Mr. Maxford, I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience. I just had to make sure Exalibar is indeed your son before making a decision that wouldn¡¯t leave any¡ animosity between us.¡± James leaned forward, his tone calm but laced with authority. ¡°Oh, there¡¯s no animosity, Principal. But let me remind you that the TIAAN organization¡ªan organization I own¡ªhas been making sizable donations to this school. These donations are essential for the school¡¯s operations. If my son leaves, know that my money leaves with him.¡± The principal¡¯s face flushed with anger. ¡°Mr. Maxford, this is blackmail!¡± James smirked. ¡°You call it blackmail; I call it white leveraging. So, what¡¯s your call, Principal?¡± Principal Bradley sighed, defeated. ¡°In light of this new information, Exalibar will be allowed to continue his education here. However, he is not permitted to use abilities beyond the regulated limits set by the school.¡± James stood, his expression smug. ¡°Has he ever? Anyway, Principal, we¡¯ll be taking our leave. Exalibar will resume lessons as usual tomorrow. As for today, we have some father-son bonding to do.¡± The principal nodded stiffly. ¡°Good day, sir.¡± As soon as they entered the limo, Exalibar turned to James, his blue eyes filled with curiosity. ¡°Okay, I have to know. How did you do it? Did you bribe Kendrick in advance or something?¡± James shook his head, his expression serious. ¡°No, I didn¡¯t even know what the principal was planning.¡± Exalibar frowned. ¡°You don¡¯t mean¡ he lied on his own? Why would he?¡± James leaned back, his tone calm but firm. ¡°He didn¡¯t lie, Exalibar. When you attacked Valery and Ronin after Aisha removed the microchip from your body, she ran tests on your blood. She created an algorithm to find the cause of your rules, your copying ability, and the source of the Mad Scientist¡¯s control. She didn¡¯t find the cause of all your abilities, but she did discover something else: your biological parents.¡± Exalibar¡¯s breath caught in his throat. ¡°What are you saying?¡± James met his gaze, his expression softening. ¡°Somehow, Exalibar, I am your father. I don¡¯t know how it happened, but we made sure it wasn¡¯t another manifestation of abilities. You are my son, and together, we are the last of the Maxford bloodline.¡± Exalibar sat in stunned silence, his mind reeling. He had always felt alone, adrift in a world that saw him as a weapon or a monster. But now, he had a father. Actual family. A wave of joy washed over him, unlike anything he had ever known. For the first time in his life, Exalibar felt like he truly belonged. **To Be Continued¡** **Chapter 11 **Settling In The morning sun filtered through the curtains of Exalibar¡¯s room, casting a warm glow over the space. He lay in bed, staring at the ceiling, his mind still reeling from the revelation the day before. James Maxford¡ªhis father. The words felt foreign, yet somehow comforting. For the first time in his life, Exalibar felt like he belonged somewhere. But with that sense of belonging came a new weight of responsibility. He wasn¡¯t just a weapon or an experiment anymore. He was a son, a student, and, whether he liked it or not, a part of a legacy. A knock on the door pulled him from his thoughts. ¡°Exalibar? You awake?¡± Aisha¡¯s voice called from the other side. ¡°Yeah, come in,¡± he replied, sitting up as the door creaked open. Aisha stepped inside, her orange hair tied back in a loose ponytail. She was already dressed in her school uniform, her green eyes scanning the room before landing on him. ¡°You look like you didn¡¯t sleep at all.¡± Exalibar shrugged, running a hand through his grey hair. ¡°Couldn¡¯t. Too much on my mind.¡± Aisha sat on the edge of his bed, her expression softening. ¡°I heard about what happened with the principal. My Dad told me everything. Are you okay?¡± Exalibar hesitated, then nodded. ¡°Yeah, I think so. It¡¯s just¡ a lot to process. I¡¯ve spent my whole life thinking I didn¡¯t have a family, and now¡¡± He trailed off, unsure how to put his feelings into words. Aisha reached out, placing a hand on his arm. ¡°I get it. But you¡¯re not alone anymore, Exalibar. You¡¯ve got us. Me, Dylan, Chloe, James¡ Exalibar smiled faintly, the weight in his chest easing slightly. ¡°Thanks, Aisha. That means a lot.¡± The school day began like any other, but Exalibar couldn¡¯t shake the feeling that everyone was watching him. News of his fight with Gauntlets had spread like wildfire, and while the principal had allowed him to stay, the other students were clearly wary. Whispers followed him through the halls, and more than a few people gave him a wide berth. ¡°Ignore them,¡± Chloe said, falling into step beside him as they walked to their first class. ¡°They¡¯re just jealous.¡± Exalibar raised an eyebrow. ¡°Jealous? Of what?¡± This book was originally published on Royal Road. Check it out there for the real experience. Chloe smirked, her purple eyes glinting with mischief. ¡°Of how freaking powerful you are, obviously. Not everyone can take down a guy in a high-tech exosuit and live to tell the tale.¡± Exalibar chuckled, the tension in his shoulders easing. ¡°To be fair I died once during that fight.¡± As they entered the classroom, Exalibar noticed Jack sitting at his usual desk. The muscular boy glanced up, his expression unreadable, but he gave Exalibar a nod of acknowledgment. It wasn¡¯t exactly a warm welcome, but it was a start. The teacher, Ms. Smith, began the lesson, but Exalibar found it hard to focus. His mind kept drifting back to the DNA test and the implications of being James Maxford¡¯s son. What did it mean for him? For his future? He had always been defined by his abilities, but now he had a name, a legacy. It was both empowering and terrifying. At lunch, the group gathered at their usual table. Dylan was already there, his fiery red hair standing out against the sea of students. He waved them over, a grin spreading across his face as they approached. ¡°So,¡± Dylan said, leaning back in his chair, ¡°how¡¯s it feel to be the most talked-about person in school?¡± Exalibar groaned, dropping into a seat. ¡°Don¡¯t remind me. I just want things to go back to normal.¡± Aisha sat beside him, her tray piled high with food. ¡°Normal¡¯s overrated. Besides, you¡¯ve got us. We¡¯ll make sure you don¡¯t get too big of a head.¡± Chloe laughed, her purple eyes sparkling. ¡°Yeah, like that¡¯s even possible. Exalibar¡¯s ego is already the size of a small planet.¡± Exalibar shot her a mock glare. ¡°Hey, I¡¯m not that bad.¡± Dylan smirked. ¡°Debatable.¡± The group fell into easy banter, the tension of the morning melting away. For the first time in weeks, Exalibar felt like he could breathe. These people¡ªhis friends¡ªwere his anchor in a world that still felt unfamiliar. After school, Exalibar and Aisha headed to the facility for their usual training session. James had insisted on keeping up their routine, despite the events of the past few days. As they entered the training room, Exalibar couldn¡¯t help but feel a sense of d¨¦j¨¤ vu. The room was filled with state-of-the-art equipment, but it was the sparring mat in the centre that caught his attention. ¡°Ready to get your ass kicked?¡± Aisha asked, her tone teasing as she stretched. Exalibar smirked, rolling his shoulders. ¡°In your dreams.¡± The two squared off, their movements fluid and precise. Aisha¡¯s alchemy allowed her to manipulate the environment, creating barriers and weapons out of thin air. Exalibar, relying on his speed and combat skills, dodged and countered with ease. The sparring session was intense, but it was also cathartic. For a while, Exalibar could forget about the weight of his newfound identity and just focus on the fight. As they finished, both breathing heavily, Aisha grinned. ¡°Not bad, Maxford. You¡¯re getting better.¡± Exalibar raised an eyebrow. ¡°Maxford, huh? I could get used to that.¡± Aisha¡¯s grin widened. ¡°Don¡¯t let it go to your head.¡± That night, as Exalibar lay in bed, he couldn¡¯t help but reflect on the day. The whispers, the stares, the banter with his friends¡ªit was all part of a life he was still getting used to. But for the first time, he felt like he was exactly where he was supposed to be. **To Be Continued¡** **Chapter 12** Bonds Deepening The next day at school was quieter. The initial buzz surrounding Exalibar had died down, and the students seemed to be adjusting to the idea of having a powerhouse in their midst. Exalibar, for his part, was determined to prove that he was more than just his abilities. He wanted to be seen as a person, not a weapon. In history class, the teacher, Mr. Thompson, assigned a group project. Exalibar found himself paired with Jessica, the girl with minor telekinesis who sat next to him. She was quiet, often keeping to herself, but Exalibar had noticed her glancing at him occasionally. ¡°So,¡± Jessica said, her voice soft as they huddled over their textbooks, ¡°what do you think about the project topic?¡± Exalibar shrugged. ¡°Seems interesting. I¡¯ve never really thought much about the history of superpowers.¡± Jessica nodded, her dark hair falling into her face. ¡°It¡¯s fascinating, really. How abilities have shaped society, for better or worse.¡± Exalibar glanced at her, curious. ¡°You sound like you¡¯ve thought about this a lot.¡± Jessica smiled faintly. ¡°I have. My parents are historians. They¡¯ve always been interested in how abilities have influenced culture and politics.¡± Exalibar leaned back in his chair, intrigued. ¡°That¡¯s cool. I never really had a chance to think about stuff like that. My life was always more about¡ survival.¡± Jessica¡¯s expression softened. ¡°I can¡¯t imagine what that must have been like. But you¡¯re here now. That¡¯s what matters.¡± Exalibar nodded, a small smile tugging at his lips. ¡°Yeah. I guess it is.¡± If you find this story on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen. Aisha had brought a deck of cards, and they were playing a round of poker¡ªthough Exalibar suspected she was using her powers to cheat. ¡°I call your bluff,¡± Dylan said, tossing a handful of chips into the centre of the table. Chloe smirked, laying down her cards. ¡°Full house. Pay up, Dylan.¡± Dylan groaned, handing over his chips. ¡°You¡¯re too good at this.¡± Aisha laughed, leaning back in her chair. ¡°Or you¡¯re just bad at poker.¡± Exalibar watched the exchange, a sense of warmth spreading through him. These people¡ªhis friends. He couldn¡¯t imagine his life without them. ¡°Hey, Exalibar,¡± Chloe said, turning to him, ¡°you¡¯ve been quiet. What¡¯s on your mind?¡± Exalibar hesitated, then shrugged. ¡°Just thinking about how different things are now. A few months ago, I didn¡¯t even know what it was like to have friends. Now¡ I can¡¯t imagine not having you guys.¡± The table fell silent, the playful atmosphere replaced by something more heartfelt. Aisha reached over, squeezing his hand. ¡°You¡¯re stuck with us, Maxford. Whether you like it or not.¡± After school, the group decided to hang out at the park. It was a rare moment of downtime, and they were determined to make the most of it. They spread out a blanket under a large oak tree, the late afternoon sun casting a golden glow over the scene. ¡°So,¡± Dylan said, leaning back on his elbows, ¡°what¡¯s everyone¡¯s plan for the weekend?¡± Chloe shrugged, her purple eyes scanning the horizon. ¡°Probably just study. Midterms are coming up, and I don¡¯t want to fail.¡± Aisha groaned, flopping onto her back. ¡°Don¡¯t remind me. I¡¯ve got a chemistry test on Monday, and I¡¯m so not ready.¡± Exalibar chuckled, leaning against the tree. ¡°I could help you study. I¡¯ve got a pretty good memory.¡± Aisha shot him a grateful smile. ¡°You¡¯re a lifesaver.¡± The conversation flowed easily, the group falling into their usual rhythm. As the sun began to set, painting the sky in shades of orange and pink, Exalibar felt a sense of peace settle over him. This was his life now¡ªa life filled with laughter, friendship, and the promise of a future he could shape for himself. As they packed up and headed home, Exalibar couldn¡¯t help but reflect on how far he¡¯d come. The boy who had once been a weapon, a tool for others to use, was now a son, a friend, and a student. He still had a long way to go, but for the first time, he felt like he was on the right path. **To Be Continued¡** **Chapter 13** Six Months Later Six months had passed since Exalibar and Aisha stopped the nighttime bank robbery. In that time, their lives had changed in ways neither of them could have anticipated. Exalibar, once a weapon forged in the shadows, had found a place in the world¡ªa family, friends, and a future he could call his own. But the road to this new life hadn¡¯t been easy. After nearly being expelled for being ¡°too powerful,¡± Exalibar had made a conscious decision to hold back. The concept was foreign to him. He was a creature of pride, and suppressing his abilities felt like a betrayal of everything he was. But he knew it was necessary. He didn¡¯t want to be seen as a threat anymore. He wanted to be normal¡ªor as normal as someone like him could be. Despite his efforts, not everyone at school was willing to let Exalibar fade into the background. Some of his classmates were determined to prove they were better than him. Individually, in specific areas, they might have been. Riff, for instance, could reach speeds of Mach 10, far surpassing Exalibar¡¯s top speed . Dylan¡¯s reflexes were sharper, and Jack¡ªthe son of a general and the strongest student in the country¡ªoutclassed Exalibar in raw power. This was due to the fact that Exalibar wasn¡¯t a natural speedster. It was the strength of his muscles that allowed him to move fast instead of a superpower. Jack, like Exalibar, was a creature of pride. The two had clashed repeatedly, their rivalry escalating until it reached a boiling point. They agreed to settle things once and for all in a controlled environment¡ªone of James¡¯s facilities, where they could fight without fear of collateral damage. The entire school flocked to the facility, eager to witness the showdown between the two powerhouses. The fight began with Exalibar taking the initiative. He dashed forward, his movements a blur, and struck Jack¡¯s leg with precision, forcing him to kneel. Exalibar followed up with a flurry of punches, aiming to end the fight quickly. But he had underestimated Jack¡¯s resilience. With a roar, Jack slammed his fist into the ground, the shockwave sending Exalibar flying into the air. Exalibar, anticipating the move, twisted his body mid-air and delivered a devastating kick to the back of Jack¡¯s neck, sending him crashing into the wall. Before Jack could recover, Exalibar was on him again, his fists a blur as he rained down blows. Each strike tore through Jack¡¯s skin and muscles, the sheer ferocity of the attack leaving the audience in stunned silence. But Jack wasn¡¯t done. Fuelled by desperation and the hysterical strength that comes with impending defeat, he threw a full-powered punch at Exalibar. Exalibar, confident in his own strength, attempted to counter the blow. It was a fatal mistake. Jack¡¯s punch obliterated Exalibar¡¯s arm, ripping it clean off and sending him flying into the wall with enough force to kill him on impact. If you spot this tale on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation. The room erupted into chaos. Exalibar¡¯s body splattered against the wall, his organs scattering across the room. Blood rained down on the horrified spectators, many of whom screamed, cried, or vomited at the gruesome sight. For a moment, it seemed like the fight was over¡ªand Exalibar was gone. But then, something extraordinary happened. The pieces of Exalibar¡¯s body began to move on their own. The blood that had splattered across the room levitated, flowing back to where the largest concentration of his remains lay. The pieces reassembled themselves, and in a span of ten seconds, Exalibar stood whole once more, his body fully regenerated. The room fell silent, the spectators staring in awe and terror. Exalibar, now naked and furious, glared at Jack. The death had been excruciating, and the humiliation of being exposed in front of the entire school only added to his rage. He wasn¡¯t about to let this slide. But before he could attack, Chloe stepped forward, her voice cutting through the tension. ¡°That¡¯s enough! Jack wins.¡± Exalibar hesitated, his murderous intent warring with his respect for Chloe. He knew she was right. If the fight continued, Jack would die¡ªand Exalibar wasn¡¯t sure he could stop himself. Reluctantly, he accepted defeat, his pride bruised but his life intact. Surprisingly, the fight marked the beginning of a new chapter in Exalibar and Jack¡¯s relationship. The two had tested each other¡¯s limits and come out with a newfound respect for one another. Over time, they became good friends, their rivalry giving way to camaraderie. Exalibar¡¯s bond with James also grew stronger. The two spent countless hours together, their father-son bonding sessions ranging from quiet conversations to intense training. James shared stories of his past, his regrets, and his hopes for the future. Exalibar, in turn, opened up about his struggles and fears. For the first time, he felt like he truly belonged to a family. Aisha, with the help of James¡¯s top scientists, made a breakthrough. Using the data from the chip that had once controlled Exalibar, she developed a new version capable of storing up to five abilities by allowing for more efficient use of energy. This raised Exalibar¡¯s total to eight¡ªthree natural and five artificial, with one slot permanently occupied by regeneration. The chip also forced Exalibar to hold back his strength unless absolutely necessary, finally allowing him to integrate fully into society. But Aisha¡¯s greatest triumph was using the chip¡¯s data to heal her mother. Valery, though grateful, chose not to return to the battlefield. ¡°It¡¯s better to leave the situation as it is,¡± she said, her voice filled with quiet resolve. Her days as a hero were over, but she found peace in her new life. With a family, friends, and a partner by his side, Exalibar finally had everything he had ever wanted. The boy who had once been a weapon had become a son, a friend, and a hero in his own right. The road ahead was still uncertain, but for the first time, Exalibar felt ready to face it. **To Be Continued¡** **Chapter 14** A Love Forged in Fire Six years had passed since Exalibar and Chloe first met, and in that time, their relationship had evolved from tentative friendship to something deeper. Chloe had always been drawn to Exalibar¡¯s strength and resilience, but it was his invulnerability¡ªthe way he didn''t struggle to find his place in the world¡ªthat truly captivated her. For Exalibar, Chloe was a beacon of light in his otherwise chaotic life. Her unwavering support and fierce loyalty made him feel like he wasn¡¯t just a weapon or an experiment. He was a person¡ªsomeone worthy of love. It started with small moments. A lingering glance here, a casual touch there. Chloe found herself seeking out Exalibar¡¯s company more often, whether it was during lunch, after school, or during their training sessions. She admired the way he carried himself¡ªhis quiet confidence, his determination to do better, to *be* better. But it wasn¡¯t until one rainy afternoon that she realized her feelings ran deeper than friendship. They were walking home from school, sharing an umbrella as the rain poured down around them. Chloe had been rambling about her latest project¡ªa new application for her photon manipulation¡ªwhen she noticed Exalibar wasn¡¯t responding. She glanced up and saw him staring at her, his blue eyes soft and unguarded. ¡°What?¡± she asked, her cheeks flushing under his gaze. Exalibar shook his head, a small smile tugging at his lips. ¡°Nothing. I just¡ like listening to you talk. You¡¯re so passionate about everything you do. It¡¯s inspiring.¡± Chloe¡¯s heart skipped a beat. She looked away, trying to hide her smile. ¡°Well, someone has to keep you on your toes.¡± Exalibar chuckled, his hand brushing against hers as they walked. Neither of them pulled away. The night after Exalibar¡¯s brutal fight with Jack, Chloe found him sitting alone on the rooftop of James¡¯s facility. His arm had fully regenerated, but his injured pride still fresh. Chloe climbed up to join him, her heart aching at the sight of his hunched shoulders. ¡°Hey,¡± she said softly, sitting down beside him. ¡°You okay?¡± Exalibar didn¡¯t answer right away. He stared out at the city skyline, his expression unreadable. ¡°I don¡¯t know,¡± he admitted finally. ¡°I keep thinking about what happened. About how close I came to¡ losing to myself again.¡± This book''s true home is on another platform. Check it out there for the real experience. Chloe reached out, placing a hand on his arm. ¡°But you didn¡¯t. You stopped. That¡¯s what matters.¡± Exalibar turned to her, his eyes searching hers. ¡°What if I hadn¡¯t? What if I¡¯d killed him? I don¡¯t want to be that person, Chloe. I don¡¯t want to be a monster.¡± Chloe¡¯s heart broke at the pain in his voice. Without thinking, she leaned in and kissed him. It was soft and tentative, a fleeting moment of connection that left them both breathless. When she pulled away, Exalibar stared at her, his eyes wide with surprise. ¡°Chloe¡¡± ¡°I¡¯m sorry,¡± she said quickly, her face burning. ¡°I shouldn¡¯t have¡ª¡± Exalibar cut her off, his hand cupping her cheek as he leaned in and kissed her back. This time, it was deeper, more confident. When they finally broke apart, Chloe rested her forehead against his, her voice barely above a whisper. ¡°I don¡¯t want you to be alone,¡± she said. ¡°I want to be with you. Through everything.¡± Exalibar¡¯s breath hitched. ¡°Chloe, I¡ I don¡¯t know if I deserve you.¡± ¡°You don¡¯t have to deserve me,¡± she replied, her voice firm. ¡°You just have to let me in.¡± Their first official date was simple but meaningful. They went to a small caf¨¦ near the school, a place Chloe had been wanting to try for weeks. Exalibar, still adjusting to the idea of being in a relationship, was uncharacteristically chalant. He fumbled with the menu, unsure of what to order, until Chloe reached across the table and took his hand. ¡°Relax,¡± she said, her purple eyes sparkling with amusement. ¡°It¡¯s just coffee.¡± Exalibar smiled, his tension easing. ¡°Easy for you to say. You¡¯re not the one trying to impress someone.¡± Chloe raised an eyebrow. ¡°You think you need to impress me? Exalibar, you¡¯ve already done that. Just be yourself.¡± They spent the next hour talking and laughing, the conversation flowing effortlessly. As they left the caf¨¦, hand in hand, Exalibar felt a sense of peace he hadn¡¯t known before. For the first time, he felt like he belonged¡ªnot just to a family, but to someone who truly saw him for who he was. As the months passed, their bond only grew stronger. They became each other¡¯s confidants, partners, and biggest supporters. Chloe¡¯s love gave Exalibar the strength to keep fighting, to believe in a future where he wasn¡¯t defined by his past. And Exalibar¡¯s unwavering devotion showed Chloe that she was more than just a sidekick or a friend. She was his equal, his partner in every sense of the word. One evening, as they sat together on the rooftop watching the sunset, Chloe turned to Exalibar with a smile. ¡°You know, I used to think love was something that happened to other people. But with you¡ it feels like the most natural thing in the world.¡± Exalibar smiled, his hand intertwining with hers. ¡°I never thought I¡¯d have this. A family, friends, someone who loves me for who I am. You¡¯ve given me everything, Chloe. And I¡¯ll spend the rest of my life making sure you know how much you mean to me.¡± Chloe leaned her head on his shoulder, her heart full. ¡°You already do.¡± **To Be Continued¡** **Chapter 15** The Shadow of 8193 The morning started like any other. Dylan barged into Exalibar¡¯s room, his fiery red hair sticking up in every direction. ¡°Wake up, Exalibar! We¡¯ve got to get ready for school, you know.¡± Exalibar groaned, burying his face in his pillow. ¡°Do we have to¡?¡± Dylan crossed his arms, his tone exasperated. ¡°Yes, we have to. It¡¯s school. We don¡¯t really have an option, you know.¡± Exalibar sighed, sitting up and running a hand through his grey hair. ¡°Why did I even agree to this?¡± Dylan smirked. ¡°Beats me. Why would anyone willingly subject themselves to going to school? Worse one who already knows most of the things we learn¡± Exalibar chuckled, swinging his legs over the side of the bed. ¡°Guess it can¡¯t be helped. Let me go take a shower. I¡¯ll catch up with you there.¡± Dylan nodded, heading for the door. ¡°Alright, but don¡¯t be late.¡± At school, the morning was uneventful. The boys met up with the girls, and they all headed to their lessons. During lunch, they sat together in their usual spot, the cafeteria buzzing with chatter. Exalibar sat with Chloe, their hands intertwined under the table. Aisha was with Jack¡ªa surprising couple, but one that seemed to work. Dylan, ever the charmer, was with Rachel, the girl whose probability manipulation made her a force to be reckoned with. As they laughed and joked, the peaceful atmosphere was shattered by screams erupting from the gym. Everyone froze, their heads snapping toward the sound. Without hesitation, the group rushed over, their hearts pounding. The scene in the gym was horrifying. Two girls lay lifeless on the floor, their blood pooling beneath them. Standing over them was a man clad entirely in black, his face obscured by a mask. He held another girl by the throat, her body limp in his grasp. The man¡¯s voice boomed through the gym, cold and menacing. ¡°8192! I know you¡¯re here. Reveal yourself, and no one else has to die!¡± The students exchanged confused glances. Who was 8192? And why was this man willing to kill for him? Exalibar¡¯s stomach churned. He knew exactly who the man was talking about. He stepped forward, but Aisha grabbed his arm, her green eyes wide with fear. ¡°Don¡¯t,¡± she whispered. ¡°It might be a trap from the doctor.¡± The story has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation. Exalibar hesitated, his blue eyes flickering with conflict. ¡°What if more people die?¡± Aisha shook her head. ¡°He wouldn¡¯t go that far, would he?¡± Chloe¡¯s voice was firm. ¡°He would.¡± Before they could say more, the man¡¯s voice cut through the tension. ¡°Time¡¯s up. You had your chance!¡± In a flash, the man lunged at another student, his fist piercing her chest with brutal efficiency. The gym erupted into chaos. A boy with ice powers retaliated, screaming, ¡°Die!¡± as he unleashed a blast of frost. The man backhanded him into a wall, killing him instantly. Exalibar couldn¡¯t hold back any longer. He charged at the man, his movements a blur. He landed three rapid hits to the man¡¯s ribs, followed by a spin kick that was blocked. Undeterred, Exalibar unleashed a roundhouse kick, then a triple spin kick¡ªthe first to raise his opponent¡¯s guard, the second to break it, and the third to strike his neck. The man flew backward, only to be blasted toward Exalibar by a photon blast from Chloe. Exalibar delivered a final kick, sending the man crashing into the wall and destroying it completely. The debris settled, revealing the man¡¯s face. The students gasped. Standing before them was Exalibar¡ªor someone who looked exactly like him. But this version had jet-black hair and red eyes, his expression cold and calculating. ¡°Allow me to formally introduce myself,¡± the man said, his voice dripping with malice. ¡°I am Sky or as you would know 8193.¡± Aisha turned to Exalibar, her voice trembling. ¡°Aren¡¯t you 8192? Wouldn¡¯t that mean he came after you?¡± Exalibar¡¯s mind raced. ¡°The doctor cloned me?¡± Sky smirked. ¡°Nonsense, brother. He didn¡¯t clone you.¡± Exalibar¡¯s eyes narrowed. ¡°Brother? What is it with all this new family?¡± Sky¡¯s smirk widened. ¡°You tell me.¡± Exalibar¡¯s fists clenched. ¡°Lies! This has the doctor written all over it. I¡¯m ending this here and now!¡± Exalibar charged at Sky, but his opponent was ready. A fist to the face stopped Exalibar in his tracks, but he didn¡¯t flinch. He retaliated with a strike to Sky¡¯s throat, but it had no effect. Sky grabbed Exalibar, faceplanted him into the ground, and dragged him across the gym. He lifted Exalibar and unleashed a flurry of punches before throwing him into the statue at the school¡¯s entrance. Dylan stepped forward, his hands glowing with fire. ¡°Incineration Cannon!¡± The blast caught Sky off guard, sending him flying. Aisha followed up, conjuring a tungsten cube to pin him down. ¡°You know,¡± Sky said, his voice cold, ¡°unlike my brother over there, I don¡¯t restrain myself. I can lift far more than a ton and a half.¡± Sky laughed, lifting the cube effortlessly and hurling it at Aisha. She turned it into sand, but Sky was already behind her, knocking her to the ground. He turned to Dylan, who was hovering in the air, but Jack intervened, pulling Sky down with a powerful grip. ¡°Fist of Damnation!¡± Jack roared, concentrating all his strength into a single punch. The blow decapitated Sky, his body flying across the gym. The group breathed a sigh of relief, but it was short-lived. In less than ten seconds, Sky¡¯s body reassembled itself, his head reattaching as if nothing had happened. He stood, his red eyes glowing with fury. ¡°Come now,¡± he sneered. ¡°Did you really think that would work? You can¡¯t even beat my brother. Did you really think you could take me on? And ¡®Fist of Damnation¡¯? Really, Jack? What are we, in elementary school? Let me show you a real attack.¡± Dylan stepped forward, his hands glowing with heat. ¡°Turning sand into glass¡ªVitrification!¡± **To Be Continued¡** **Chapter 16** The Fall of Heroes The gym was a battlefield, the air thick with tension and the acrid smell of smoke. Dylan stood at the centre of it all, his hands glowing with an intense heat as he prepared his ultimate attack¡ªVitrification. The process, which involved turning sand into glass by superheating it, was already devastating. But Dylan amplified it further, drawing heat from the air and his own fire to create an attack that rivalled the heat of a low-yield nuclear warhead. Sky screamed in agony as the heat overwhelmed his regeneration, melting his bones and charring his flesh. But even in the face of such overwhelming power, he refused to go down without a fight. Ripping off his charred hand, he hurled it at Dylan, forcing him to momentarily break his concentration. The distraction was enough for Sky to lessen the heat, allowing his regeneration to kick in. In an instant, Sky was whole again, his red eyes blazing with fury. He leapt into the air, grabbing Dylan by the leg and dragging him face-first across the school grounds. The impact was brutal, leaving Dylan battered and bloodied. Sky dropped him, taking a moment to catch his breath. After all, even he needed to be in peak condition to maintain his dominance. Sky stood over Dylan, his voice dripping with malice. ¡°You¡¯ll need true power to overwhelm me, Dylan. All your attempts are meaningless.¡± Dylan coughed, blood staining his lips. ¡°You¡¯re already down a life,¡± he spat, his voice weak but defiant. Sky smirked, his expression cold. ¡°I could say the same about you. The wounds I gave you are fatal. In about two minutes, you¡¯ll be dead¡ªno matter what you do.¡± Dylan¡¯s breathing grew laboured, but his resolve didn¡¯t waver. ¡°Exa¡ libar¡ will stop¡ you¡¡± Sky laughed, a harsh, mocking sound. ¡°Oh, please. My weak younger brother? Tell you what¡ªbefore you die, I¡¯m going to make you suffer to the point where you¡¯ll wish you¡¯d died when that javelin hit you.¡± Dylan managed a weak smirk. ¡°What are you, a 13-year-old edgelord?¡± Did you know this story is from Royal Road? Read the official version for free and support the author. Sky¡¯s eyes narrowed, his voice low and dangerous. ¡°You¡¯ll wish I was.¡± Before Dylan could respond, Sky vanished, reappearing moments later with Aisha in his grasp. She was unconscious, her head lolling to the side as he held her by the neck. Dylan¡¯s heart sank, his breath catching in his throat. ¡°Now,¡± Sky said, his tone chillingly calm, ¡°what did you say about me being an edgelord?¡± Dylan¡¯s voice cracked, his desperation palpable. ¡°Please¡ no. Not her. Hurt anyone but her. Take me instead. Kill me slowly for all I care. But please¡ not her.¡± Sky¡¯s smirk widened, his grip tightening on Aisha¡¯s neck. ¡°See, the difference between me and my brother is¡ he would have listened.¡± With a sickening crack, he broke Aisha¡¯s neck, her lifeless body crumpling to the ground. Dylan¡¯s world shattered. He screamed, a raw, guttural sound of anguish as Sky dropped Aisha¡¯s body at his feet. ¡°The bond between twins is one that¡¯s beyond comprehension,¡± Sky said, his voice cold and merciless. ¡°The love shared between those who cherish one another is beyond compare. Witnessing the only person who could truly understand you die¡ that¡¯s a fate worse than death. And in your last moments, you¡¯ll forever wonder if you could have saved her if you were stronger. I¡¯ll save you the trouble.¡± He kicked Aisha¡¯s lifeless body toward Dylan. ¡°You wouldn¡¯t.¡± In that moment, everything collapsed around Dylan. His sister¡ªhis twin, his other half¡ªlay dead before him, her lifeless eyes staring into nothingness. The pain was unbearable, a searing agony that consumed him from the inside out. But amidst the despair, a fire ignited within him¡ªa burning, unrelenting rage. Sky had to die. Dylan¡¯s hands glowed with an otherworldly light as he unleashed his ultimate attack: **Stage 2 Fat-Man**. Named after the nuclear weapon dropped on Nagasaki, this attack was the pinnacle of Dylan¡¯s power. It involved cooling the air via rapid absorption of all atmospheric heat, then rapidly heating it by forcing all the hydrogen and oxygen in the vicinity to ignite. The rapid expansion of air created shockwaves, each one followed by a heatwave. In essence, Dylan turned himself into multiple nuclear bombs, each exploding in the same area every ten seconds. ¡°I¡¯LL KILL YOU!¡± Dylan roared, his voice echoing with a primal fury. Sky smirked, his red eyes gleaming with malice. ¡°You¡¯ll die trying.¡± Before Dylan could ignite the air, Sky moved with blinding speed, ripping out his heart. Dylan¡¯s eyes widened, his body collapsing to the ground as the light in his hands faded. No creature other than the two brothers could survive such an attack. Dylan was no exception. Sky stood over Dylan¡¯s lifeless body, his expression cold and unfeeling. ¡°In one afternoon, the two with the greatest potential to stop me fell. Now, it¡¯s your turn, brother.¡± **To Be Continued¡**
