《OMEGA CONQUEST》 Chapter 0: An Introduction OMEGA CONQUEST by, Jamal Green An Introduction¡ ¡°You have created an abomination. Alpha-Man is a sin; an imbalanced defect,¡± she said. ¡°I gave my rock-chucker a fighting chance,¡± he said. Was it not unfair for Alpha-Man to be seeded in the harshest habitat?¡± ¡°The rules of the experiment were clear, no version of the hybrid species was to receive any further upgrades or additions from us. They must achieve a higher state of being on their own," said the collective. ¡°And per those rules, I added nothing to Alpha-Man. However, no such rule was made against taking things away," he said. "Subversion," she interjected. "We all understand methods of addition by way of subtraction." No things were added. I simply removed Alpha-Man¡¯s ability to perceive of his connection to Source.¡± ¡°Thereby removing Alpha-Man''s ability to experience a sense of self-content. He is now transformed into a paragon of perpetual motion, restlessly seeking outside of himself that which he already possesses inside. You made him unconscious; blind to his connection to everything, everyone, and most of all Grand Source Creation. Such a cruel, lonely state of existence you have created for Alpha-Man,¡± the collective said. Alpha-Man has internalized this cruelty and now wields it like a weapon, spreading it like a virus throughout the galaxy. It is for this reason, the abomination must be deleted," she said. ¡°How can he be an abomination if he has gone from throwing rocks, to interstellar travel sooner than his brethren and much sooner than any of us might have anticipated,¡± he said. "And yet he has not evolved spiritually. His rocks may have advanced technologically, but he still only knows how to chuck them at others...and maybe even at us if we''re not mindful," she said. ¡°Our concerns are as follows. Every tool Alpha-Man develops he uses only to better make war. He is at war with the environment, he is at war with himself, and he would attempt to war against Grand Source Creator if he could perceive of it. In removing his ability to perceive Source you have cruelly created a being whose spirit does not know peace. Without an adequate spiritual connection to counterbalance his high intellect, Alpha-Man is indeed an unbalanced abomination. You have reverted the hybrid species into a feral beast of abnormally high technological advancement; a veritable monster of war, a monster that never rests, a monster that is never content, a monster that only knows love through his love of domination and conquest. Worst of all he is driven by an all-encompassing, insatiable need for ''more'',¡± the collective said. "I am in full agreement with the collective''s assessment. Therefore Alpha-Man must be eliminated from the experiment,¡± she said. ¡°Alpha-Man shall not be removed," said the collective. "All versions were granted free will to use as they may. If the other versions don¡¯t abide Alpha-Man¡¯s pursuit of conquest, let them employ their free will and stop him." ¡°Thereby forcing the other versions to become just as war-like as the abomination in order to stop him? That is not honoring their free will. Unauthorized usage: this narrative is on Amazon without the author''s consent. Report any sightings. ¡°Free will encompasses the freedom to choose to be dominated or choose to resist,¡± he said. ¡°We are not in violation.¡± ¡°We gave them free will when they were balanced creatures before he changed the conditions of the experiment,¡± she said. ¡°Allowing free will to continue in such an imbalanced creature is dooming the galaxy to defect. Alpha-Man spreads his diseased nature like a plague. Conquest is an unchecked virus colonizing one star system after the next. It is for this reason we must cure the infection and restart the experiment.¡± ¡°We shall not interfere,¡± said the collective. ¡°The rules of the experiment remain intact. Alpha-Man¡¯s imbalance also serves as a prison where he is blocked from Source and locked into a perpetual state of war and conquest. When there is nothing else left to consume, the imbalance shall consume itself, thereby ending the abomination.¡± ¡°Then we¡¯ve failed. We''ve failed to honor Grand Source creator," she said. Yes, Alpha-Man may eventually destroy himself, but what about the other versions he takes with him? What about their free will? What about the fate of my beloved Omegans? They have no freedom to choose when their only option for survival is to become just as war-like as the abomination itself." ¡°Don¡¯t count the Omega Star System conquered so soon," said the collective. "Omega is teaming with an abundance of creation-level life force. Yes, the Omegans face imposing odds, but their connection to Source is unmatched,¡± they said. ¡°After all, who are we not to believe in miracles?" --Eloshaa Collective **** Omega Star System; believed to be the last in the known galaxy to develop interstellar travel. As such, many of its worlds were ripe for conquest by more technologically advanced cultures like the beings from Alpha Star System, who, given the harshness of their early environment, developed in constant opposition to their surroundings rather than in a more harmonious state of being practiced by most Omegan cultures. Where Alphans sought to dominate their environment, Omegans strived to be at one with their worlds and each other. When competing ideologies meet, there is conflict, as was the case when the Alphan Empires began ''colonizing Omega Star System. From the Alphans¡¯ perspective, Omega was a perfect prize. It was abundant with untapped resources and populated by beings not prone to acquiring and hoarding resources. Rather than repelling the invading forces, Omegans welcomed their imminent conquerors with open arms, like distant brethren of the same star family. It was only after the Alphans had a stronghold in the star system that the Omegans learned of the brutal, oppressive methods with which Alphans spread their technologically advanced "civilization" to ¡°lesser¡± developed cultures. The Alphans faced a great dilemma. For the first time, they encountered more abundant resources than they were able to pillage. Rather than simply take what they could manage, the Alphans devised ways to feed their insatiable addiction for ¡®more¡¯. This affliction meant Alphans had no concept of ¡®enough¡¯ and sought to take everything, even more than they could manage to the point where rather than leaving any resources behind, an Alphan would just as soon die. And die they did. The Alphan Empire broke into separate factions warring with each other over the rights to "colonize" various sectors of Omega Star System. Facing the need for a labor force large enough to mine exorbitant riches, the Alphans tapped Omega¡¯s richest resource, its people. Many vibrant, unique cultures were forever lost as native Omegans were captured and forced into the vilest form of chattel slavery to feed the Alphans'' insatiable desire for excess resources. The Interstellar Slave Trade had begun and continued to ravage Omega for many generations until a time known as the dawn of Enlightenment, wherein an anti-slavery Alphan sect known as the NOF (New Order Federation) broke off from the dominant Royal Empire (RE). The NOF sought to assimilate native Omegans into Alphan society, while the Royal Empire maintained the harsh practice of chattel slavery. ¡°Every system of control simultaneously gives birth to that which rebels and seeks to destroy the system, especially in such an extreme circumstance as chattel slavery.¡±--unnamed Shoga Omega Conquest is a space saga about a unique team of Omegan outlaws hired by the NOF as freedom fighters battling the Royal Empire¡¯s Trans-Galactic Slave Trade in exchange for time off their prison sentences. In a morally corrupt, spiritually bankrupt society, the line between criminal and hero is sometimes inconceivable. Chapter 1 "Collision Course" (1) OMEGA CONQUEST Episode 1 - "Collision Course" By, Jamal Green To be human(oid) means to experience the illusion of separation from source. With this illusion of separation comes free-will. In the unenlightened spirit, free-will breeds a desire to remove or severely limit the free-will of others. Ironic. **** 1. The door to Shok¡¯aan¡¯s quarters slid open. He stumbled inside, his powerful body dropping to the floor like a sack of rocks. His breath quickened. His heart raced. His vision blurred, fluttering between thermal heat signatures and the normal visual spectrum of an average human. His jaw clenched involuntarily. The change was coming. He needed his medication but could barely concentrate on a single thought for more than a split second. He stopped fighting it, realizing it was going to happen and there was nothing he could do to stop it. The door slid open again. Commander Dezik Rune rushed in and knelt over Shok¡¯aan, turning Shok¡¯aan¡¯s face toward him to examine his eyes. They were red. ¡°Stay here, Shok. Don¡¯t let it come,¡± said Dezik. ¡°Where¡¯s your medication?¡± Dezik noticed Shok¡¯aan¡¯s eyes dart toward the desk before they morphed into a vertically slit reptilian pupil. Dezik rushed over to the desk, waved his hand over the security scanner to open the locked compartment. ¡®access denied, access denied,¡¯ a digitized voice repeated. ¡°Override,¡± yelled Dezik. ¡®please enter your command-level security code¡¯. Dezik grumbled at the scanner and released a surge of electricity from his palm which short-circuited the security protocol and blew open the locked compartments. He rummaged through the drawer and grabbed a med cartridge, loaded it into an injector and rushed back to inject the medication into Shok¡¯aan¡¯s leg. Shok¡¯aan¡¯s body tensed, then relaxed. He began breathing more slowly and opened his eyes, which were no longer red with vertical slits and instead had a normal human appearance. ¡°Took you long enough,¡± said Shok¡¯aan. ¡°Lucky for you, the ship monitors our vitals. You should have told me,¡± Dezik said. ¡°I thought I could make it,¡± said Shok¡¯aan. ¡°It¡¯s been a long tour and you¡¯re running out of meds. You¡¯ll need to feed eventually.¡± ¡°That¡¯s why we brought you and the rest of the crew,¡± Shok¡¯aan said trying to lighten the mood. ¡°I will blast you into space before I¡¯d let that happen, my friend.¡± ¡°You could try,¡± said Shok¡¯aan as Dezik helped him to his feet. Stolen from its rightful author, this tale is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings. Both Dezik and Shok¡¯aan¡¯s c-link communicators they wore on their wrists chimed. Dezik touched c-link to answer. ¡°Go ahead.¡± ¡°Commander, we¡¯re approaching the target,¡± a female voiced beckoned. ¡°Confirmed. On our way,¡± said Dezik. **** ON THE BRIDGE¡ Shok¡¯aan and Dezik took their usual command-level seats that were on a raised platform just behind the helm and forward viewscreen. Starship B.L.I.S.S. (BLISS) was a luxury cruise vessel currently travelling in sub-space, which caused the main viewscreen to be awash with multicolor data streams. Meccai¡¯s eyes darted back and forth swallowing up data as he sat at the helm piloting the ship. Some believed a speckle of light was etched into a pilot¡¯s eyes for every star system visited. In Meccai¡¯s case his shiny eyes were barely noticeable at casual distance, but closer inspection revealed the beginning of a celestial map of the galaxy. He had seen a lot. Meccai was a Saggen, a humanoid race that lived up to five times longer than most other humans. He was barely middle-aged by Saggen standards but had already visited more sectors of Omega Star System than most non-Saggens would ever see in an entire lifetime. Of the many beings Meccai encountered during his travels, none were more annoying than his five current crewmates aboard Starship BLISS. What annoyed him most was the way he was teased into allowing himself to care so deeply for this mishmash group of non-Saggens. After all, this unlikely team of fellow convicted criminals would die so soon of old age that ¡®it was barely worth learning their names,¡¯ Meccai thought when he first joined up. In the end, Meccai would out-live everyone else leaving him to be the one to tell their story. That was the way of a Saggen living amongst the short-lifers. Tasked with combating the Interstellar Slave Trade, each crew member would receive time off their prison sentences in the unlikely event they survived the high-risk tour. The experiment was code named NOOBeing, where a team of native Omegans, each of whom possessed a special N.O.O.B. ability would form an elite fighting unit capable of covert missions where ¡®normal¡¯ soldiers couldn¡¯t go for political and logistical reasons. The only non-NOOB on the team was their leader, Shok¡¯aan, who derived his talents from the mysterious Oto dragon. NOOBeing was an unofficial project of the New Order Federation (NOF), an ¡®enlightened¡¯ anti-slavery sect that broke off from the Royal Empire (RE), the main colonizing force from Alpha Star System. Meccai relished the irony. They fought for the freedom of others but lacked freedom for themselves. ¡®Only people deprived of freedom fully understand its value¡and its price,¡¯Meccai thought. Those wise words spoken by Shok¡¯aan often played in Meccai¡¯s mind at times he needed a reminder why it was all worth it. Freedom was worth the risk. And so was the maneuver the was about to pull. The maneuver was worth the risk in his own mind anyway. As for the opposition he¡¯d face if his less ¡®experienced¡¯ teammates knew of his intentions, Meccai concocted a simple solution. He wouldn¡¯t tell them. A warning beacon flashed on the main console. Meccai quickly shut it off, hoping his two commanding officers seated on a raised platform behind him didn¡¯t notice. MayJay, Meccai¡¯s unofficial copilot/apprentice, did notice. She was sitting at the helm just to Meccai¡¯s left and became mildly concerned as she looked at Meccai for an explanation. He continued staring forward at the main view screen pretending he couldn¡¯t feel her gazing at him and acting as if the beacon hadn¡¯t gone off. ¡°It¡¯s the subnav,¡± said MayJay as she studied the control panel in front of her. ¡°It shutdown. I¡¯ll reset.¡± MayJay tried to press one of the tactile buttons on the console, but it wouldn¡¯t move no matter how hard she pressed it. She quickly realized Meccai was using his NOOB ability and wasn¡¯t allowing the button to be pressed. Although the ship could be piloted in several configurations, Meccai preferred to use a tactile control board because he could move levers, buttons and other tactile controls with his mind, which allowed him to pilot ships that normally required multiple pilots all by himself. Chapter 2 "Collision Course" (2) Finally, Meccai turned his gaze away from the main view screen to look directly at MayJay. She instantly understood Meccai¡¯s stern expression and subtle eye movement meant he wanted her to keep quiet. MayJay¡¯s stomach sank as she realized Meccai¡¯s plan. Her disdain for Meccai grew as she watched the ¡®mentally unstable¡¯ man next to her studying data streams like he was a human computer. ¡®Why wouldn¡¯t he use the subnav like any sane person would do?¡¯she thought. In that moment she would have preferred if Meccai actually was a human computer; like some sort of cyborg with brain enhancements. But no, Meccai was only a man with a human brain, and an outsized male ego. She only had a split second to decide whether or not to out Meccai to their commanding officers seated behind them. ¡°Subnav is not resetting, MayJay said.¡± She tried several more times to depress the physical subnav reset button exaggerating her movements, hoping to alert their commanding officers without directly betraying Meccai. She looked over at Meccai and he ever-so-slightly shook his head ¡®no¡¯ indicating her efforts were futile. ¡°Stand by for slide out,¡± said Meccai watching and calculating data points. ¡°Without the subnav?¡± MayJay said, desperate. Her vocal protest caught the attention of Dezik and Shok¡¯aan. The two commanding officers were a study in contrasts. Shok¡¯aan was from an indigenous tribe native to the Omega Star System and shared that connection with the rest of the crew. Each of the crew members were from different tribes all throughout Omega. Each of them proud of their unique heritage and whenever possible avoided wearing New Order Federation (NOF) uniforms, the antislavery Alphan colonizers they were employed by. Shok¡¯aan wore loose fitting wrap-style garments pulled tight by mech-belts over the shoulder and around the waist. The fittings and fasteners were made of gold indicating his royal lineage. As a Chioto Warrior, it was customary for Shok¡¯aan to keep his muscular arms exposed whenever ambient conditions allowed for it. Dezik, on the other hand wore an NOF military uniform proudly as an ode to his father¡¯s Alphan lineage, but he wore the uniform loose, open or unfastened in honor of his mother¡¯s Omegan heritage. ¡°What¡¯s wrong?¡± Shok¡¯aan said. ¡°Wait. Why is the subnav offline?¡± asked Dezik. Meccai pulled a lever on the console out-sliding the ship from sub-space. The main view screen instantly switched from blazes of light and data to an all-encompassing ocean view. Schloom! Starship BLISS submerged underneath the dark waters. ¡°Bayneer-3, third moon of Bayneer. Welcome,¡± said Meccai. MayJay sighed in relief. She touched several buttons beginning an e/a-scan of their current star neighborhood. She felt Meccai staring as if waiting for her to acknowledge his greatness. She resisted the idea of feeding his ego but glanced at him quickly to diffuse the situation. True to form, Meccai broke into a haughty, ear-to-ear grin. He¡¯d just done something no one else on the team, and very few beings in that sector of the galaxy could have accomplished. MayJay shook her head, as if unimpressed and continued her area scans. ¡°You can¡¯t manually calculate a slide-out this close to a planet,¡± said Dezik as he stood up and stared at the front view screen in disbelief. ¡°It¡¯s not a planet. It¡¯s a moon and it can be done because I just did it,¡± said Meccai. ¡°Did the subnav malfunction?¡± Shok¡¯aan asked in a calmer, more relaxed demeanor. ¡°No,¡± said Meccai. ¡°No, but your brain DID malfunction,¡± said Dezik. ¡°If we slid into a land mass instead of water, we¡¯d all be dead right now.¡± ¡°This moon¡¯s surface is 84 percent water. It was a calculated risk,¡± said Meccai. ¡°What if we ARE dead and this is a weird afterlife where we¡¯re all stuck in this ship together for all eternity,¡± said MayJay. ¡°Not possible,¡± said Meccai. ¡°You ever seen a dead man look so good?¡± Meccai adjusted his beard as though he were actually handsome. This book was originally published on Royal Road. Check it out there for the real experience. ¡°We may need to drop off the pretty man back at the penal colony before he gets us all killed.¡± Dezik turned toward MayJay. ¡°Can you fly this thing yet?¡± ¡°Kind of. Mostly. I guess I can,¡± said MayJay. ¡°But she can¡¯t do it by herself like me. Besides, I¡¯m the one who keeps us alive,¡± said Meccai. He kept Starship BLISS moving underneath the ocean water making it more difficult for enemies to detect the ship on their scanners. The ship approached underwater mountain ranges. Meccai turned BLISS vertically squeezing through an underwater valley between two mountain ranges. On the other side of the mountains the ship was met by a large jelly-type sea creature. Meccai twisted the ship around barely missing the sea creature, deciding to let it live rather than burst right through it. ¡°Any underwater settlements to avoid?¡± ¡°Negative,¡± said MayJay. ¡°The inhabitants don¡¯t possess the technological advancement for underwater colonies.¡± Shok¡¯aan and Dezik stood looking over MayJay¡¯s shoulder, watching the e/a-scan information as it came in. ¡°I see one carrier-class RE (Royal Empire) ship on the other side of the planet Bayneer, which is an uninhabitable, molten mess, could be an effective tactical barrier. The only life-sustaining body in the vicinity is this third moon we just crashed into,¡± said MayJay. ¡°Crashed?¡± Meccai looked offended. ¡°They haven¡¯t scanned us yet,¡± said Dezik. ¡°They don¡¯t know we¡¯re here,¡± said Shok¡¯aan. ¡°Meccai, you done good.¡± ¡°Finally, someone understands my genius,¡± Meccai said. ¡°Good? I say lucky,¡± Dezik said with a look of disdain. ¡°How many times have we slid out of sub-space right into the thick of battle? Too many. I¡¯m tired of sliding out directly into enemy sights with guns blazing. It¡¯ll make me an old man before my time,¡± said Meccai. ¡°You¡¯re already an old man by our time,¡± Shok¡¯aan said. ¡°And wise at that.¡± Meccai¡¯s maneuver has provided us a gift we haven¡¯t enjoyed in a long time; the element of surprise.¡± ¡°I¡¯m picking up several settlements on that single land mass,¡± said MayJay pointing at a screen in front of her. And one RE Slave Ship next to a larger settlement.¡± Shok¡¯aan touched the comms button on the console opening a channel to the flight deck. ¡°X, is Atom-1 ready for launch?¡± **** MOMENTS EARLIER¡on Flight Deck of Starship BLISS¡ * The final two team members, Xavin-Tra (X-Tra) and Don Raven Ribero were busy repairing Atom-1, a fighter-class ship with wings that rotated around the center cockpit (nucleus) making it resemble the structure of an atom when in flight. X-Tra was using a fusion tool to fix the forward-facing main gun and Raven helped out holding the new charger coil in place while X-Tra fused it in. ¡°I¡¯ll make some. It¡¯s like nothing you¡¯ve ever tasted,¡± said Raven. ¡°I don¡¯t eat raw meat, bro,¡± X-Tra said, pausing his work with the fusion tool, frustrated that Raven wasn¡¯t paying close enough attention and kept moving the coil. ¡°Can you hold it still?¡± ¡°It has to be raw. You can¡¯t cook it. You only dip it in the flame, but not too much,¡± said Raven. ¡°Just enough to give it a little color.¡± ¡°Look, would you just shut up and hold the coil straight,¡± X-Tra said. Raven almost looked offended. ¡°You should be thankful I¡¯m willing to educate you; giving you some culture,¡± said Raven. ¡°No, you¡¯re giving me a headache,¡± said X-Tra. ¡°Here, you wanna switch? I¡¯ll hold the coil and you fuse it.¡± ¡°No. You hurry and finish. This work is beneath me,¡± said Raven. ¡°You can always go back to prison and bust up a bunch of rocks for the rest of your life,¡± said X-Tra. ¡°Busting rocks is definitely more your speed. You¡¯re perfectly suited for all this¡hand labor because you¡¯re a- ¡°A what?¡± X-Tra said aggressively. He instantly shut down the fusion tool, taking a moment to tower over the much smaller man in a show of dominance. Unfettered, Raven fired back with steely conviction, ¡°Because, YOU are NOT a DON,¡± he said. ¡°Well, you ain¡¯t no real Don neither,¡± said X-Tra. ¡°You¡you should be careful what you say,¡± Raven said. ¡°Or what?¡± X-Tra moved closer to Raven, again towering over him. ¡°I. Am. X-Tra! Your NOOB powers are puny to me.¡± Both of their commlinks flashed on as Shok¡¯aan¡¯s voice emanated. ¡°X, is Atom-1 ready for launch?¡± The tension between X-Tra and Raven deflated as they looked at each other annoyed by their boss¡¯ nagging voice. X-Tra touched the commlink, which he wore around his thick neck like an oversized necklace. ¡°Atom-II is good to go,¡± X-Tra said. ¡°We need Atom-1¡¯s extra stealth capability. How long?¡± Dezik chimed in also over comms. X-Tra sighed as he looked at Atom-1¡¯s front-end cannon open and in pieces on the floor. ¡°Uh, it¡¯s gonna be a minute,¡± said X-Tra. ¡°Understood. Prepare Atom 1 for launch. You¡¯re to shuttle MayJay and Raven to the surface,¡± Shok¡¯aan said over comms. ¡°Hold up. You expecting me to fly this thing with no main gun?¡± X-Tra responded in protest.
