《The Conquest of Seven Thrones》 On The Rise 5 years had passed since I had arrived in this world. I then found myself in the city of Pentos. In just 5 years, I had become a respected person in the region. At this time I had formed a mercenary group of considerable strength. We had grown a solid reputation as the strongest mercenary corp in the entire region. I had thought I¡¯d be able to live a life of glory without being involved in something that can threaten my life. I had thought wrong. Today I was met with a new face, a beautiful one at that. She had smooth white hair, as white as snow, and eyes as bright as amethyst. ¡°Are you the leader of the Angelus Legion?¡± She asked with a voice as sweet as honey. I answered with a ¡®Yes¡¯ and she sat right across from me. I see her slender body draped in a white dress, embroidered with white laced flowers, as her hooded robe parted. She asked for us to be her guards and would pay her handsomely. After carefully considering her offer, I had accepted with much hesitation. We had signed a 5 year contract and shaked her soft and slender hand. We parted as we agreed to meet the next day. The Angelus Legion, 5,000 men strong reminiscent of a Roman legion, stood in the parade array on a grass plain that stretched for miles. The men armored in a fashion, unique to the world. Their lamellar armor glistened in the sun. The footman is armed with a long spear and kite shield. Our skirmishers were armed with either a composite bow or crossbow, and armored with mail armor. The horse archers, armed with a composite bow and armored with mail armor. The melee horseman was armed and armored similarly to the footman with one of the few differences being they wore grieves. The heavy cavalry armored in the lamellar but also plate arm and leg harnesses and armed with a two handed spear and a small circular shield. Sat on a stool at the top of a hill overlooking the formation. Looking down on the formation proudly. I then heard the sound of horses trotting behind me and I turned around. My gaze finds the same woman from yesterday along with an attendant of hers. ¡°I don¡¯t believe I¡¯ve learned your name yet¡± I said to her in a calm tone as I stood up. ¡°My name is Daenerys Targaryen¡± she replied. I had immediately bowed down as I learned her name. The house she was part of are the rulers of the region. Their house was a powerful house, controlling the Seven Kingdoms across the Narrow Sea. She then tells me to stand straight and passes me to gaze upon the soldiers below. I stand and follow her as she takes a look down. ¡°How many of them are there?¡± She asked with her sweet voice. ¡°There are 5,000 of them, your grace.¡± I replied promptly. ¡°3,000 of them are footmen, 800 rangers and 1,200 horsemen.¡± She nods as she listens to my report. ¡°Can they contend with a force of 40,000?¡± She asked this weird question. I looked at her disconcerted but quickly composed myself. ¡°Depending on the location of the battlefield and the armament of our enemies, I can guarantee a victory.¡± I say with a tranquil voice. These words had made her confident in her decision evident in her body language, though mostly covered by her robe. ¡°In a day''s time¡± She informed me. ¡°A Dothraki Khalasar will arrive led by the Khal Drogo¡ The reason I¡¯m telling you this is because my brother wants to marry me off to him. I want you to kill him before he gets here.¡± I was appalled by the bombshell she dropped on me. My normally calm face was rewritten with widened eyes and a gaping mouth. I quickly composed myself but still found myself uneasy inside. This Khal we were talking about was an extremely powerful warlord. His influence stretched far and wide. Even though the Dothraki weren¡¯t known for having great weapons or armor, their martial prowess more than made up for it. Very easily could they topple many cities, they are comparable to Attila the Hun the scourge of the Romans. For this upcoming battle what I¡¯m hoping for is one similar to the battle of Watling Street, but with their excellent horsemanship and the large plains, I can¡¯t hope for a favorable battlefield. This battle will be a battle that we hope our superior arms and armor win us the battle. We then talked about other matters such as where we will be staying and such. The legion was dismissed and I followed Daenerys to our horses, and escorted her back to her manor. Atop my armored horse diagonal to her, I had men into a defensive formation around her. Our ride to her manor was one filled with silence. Not a single sound, other than the whistling of the wind and the dancing of the leaves, was in the air. Upon arriving at her home, we were met with a beautiful garden in which had many hedges and flowers with the occasional tree, we dismounted our horses and I followed her inside. ¡°You can go to your accommodations¡± She says signaling a maid to come over.Support creative writers by reading their stories on Royal Road, not stolen versions. ¡°That won¡¯t be necessary. It¡¯s our job to now protect you as per our contract.¡± I reply, waving off the maid. ¡°Very well, Sir?¡± She asks as we continue down the hallway. ¡°Julian, your grace.¡± I follow her down the hall. ¡°Julian?¡± She asks. ¡°That¡¯s a very nice name.¡± ¡°Thank you, your grace.¡± I replied. I follow her into her chambers as the other guards take up positions in the hallway. The door closes behind me as I look back. I then turned back around to see Daenerys sitting on her bed in only her dress. I take a seat at her desk in the room. I take a look around her room as Daenerys lays down on her bed. ¡°Julian? I understand that I¡¯m asking a lot from you, especially with attacking the Khal.¡± She says sympathetically. ¡°That¡¯s fine. Let me tell you a story regarding an army in a similar situation as ours.¡± I say to her as she looks at me curiously. ¡°There was this one general named Paulinus. The second in command of a province, called Brittania, in a grand empire. At the time there was a rebellion, the rebellion had grown to 100,000 strong. And our protagonist of our story had an army of a little over 10,000.¡± ¡°Surely you didn¡¯t tell me this because this great general lost.¡± She said smartly. ¡°You¡¯re right I didn¡¯t begin this story just to tell you they had lost the war. Paulinus ultimately won the war at Watling street. They crushed their enemy and slaughtered them all.¡± ¡°Typical Roman action¡± She says as she lies back down. I quickly drew my blade and dived on her, placing my blade on her neck. ¡°Give me one reason not to kill you.¡± I say in a cold voice. ¡°Wh-what are you doing?¡± She began to sweat bullets as she faced my blade. ¡°I don¡¯t remember telling you who they were. I just told you the names of the province and the general.¡± I say ¡°Who are you?¡± ¡°What do you mean?¡± She said slowly, ¡°I thought you mentioned something about Rome.¡± ¡°And how did you know to call them ¡®Roman?¡¯¡± I ask her. ¡°You know something¡ tell me who you are?¡± ¡°My name is Maddison¡¡± The Daenerys poser says reluctantly. ¡°America?¡± ¡°Yeah, you?¡± ¡°I¡¯m also American.¡± ¡°What¡¯s your name?¡± ¡°...My name is Alexander.¡± ¡°Like Alexander the Great.¡± ¡°My father was a history buff and he revered Alexander.¡± I said. ¡°Where are we?¡± ¡°What do you mean where are we? Surely you know this is the world of Game of Thrones.¡± I looked at her quizzically ¡°Game of Thrones? Is that a movie or something?¡± ¡°Yes, it¡¯s an HBO TV show, an adaptation of George R.R. ¡®Song of Ice and Fire¡¯¡± She says arrogantly. ¡°Pretty arrogant for a person with a blade to their neck.¡± I say as I press the swords against her bare skin. She quickly begins to apologize as I pull the blade away from her neck and sheathes it. She begins to explain ¡®Game of Thrones¡¯ to me and explains how she guessed that I was an outsider saying there was no mercenary group called the Angelus Legion. She continues to explain Game of Thrones, only regarding the character she¡¯s playing as Daenerys Targaryen. Explaining how she wants to avoid Daenerys fate and claim the crown of the seven kingdoms. Hours passed as we converse, sharing our plans and intentions to each other. But if there is one thing that Diplomacy has taught me, you can¡¯t trust anyone. Taking this into account I took everything she said with a grain of salt. She knew much more about this world than me and could easily discard me if she wanted to. Knowing this I maintained my guard against her and made plans to kill her if the situation called for it. The next day, I was called to report to Daenerys. I entered through a door that led into a room where a long hall was to a bath where I could see her standing against the balcony. The hall is made of a smooth tan stone, giving off an ancient feel to the room. I walked towards her and called out to her. I asked her as to why she called me and explained that today is the day that we meet Drogo the Khal of the Dothraki. The doors open and I turn around to see Daenerys'' brother, Visnerys. He looked at me and then questioned Daenerys on who I was. ¡°This is the guard whom I hired.¡± She smiled innocently as I bowed my head to him. ¡°Well, you can dismiss him¡± He says arrogantly and smirks. ¡°I¡¯d rather not brother.¡± She smiles. ¡°...fine, I¡¯ll allow him to be here. This dress is the dress that you¡¯ll be wearing.¡± He said rather happily and he handed the white dress to me. I take the white dress and see that she takes her clothes off her, leaving her completely nude. ¡°You look beautiful Daenerys so don¡¯t worry about him not accepting you.¡± He says as her brushes hair, moving it behind her back. He then leaves the both of us and exits the room. My gaze follows him out the room and then it falls onto a nude Daenerys. ¡°Are you alright?¡± ¡°I¡¯m fine.¡± She says as she slowly immerses herself into the boiling bath. I nod at her and then place her white dress on a small table. I then go back to pick up her robe on the floor, quickly folding it and placing it beside the white dress. I turn back to see her relaxing in the bath. I then go to the balcony and lean over and watch the beautiful ocean as it laps over the rocky shore. The calm vibe that the ocean exuded made me forget where I was. The smell of the salt water filled me and the breeze of the wind blew the wind through my hair. I felt a gaze towards me but that didn¡¯t deter me from enjoying myself in the sun. It truly was a divine moment. Liberation Daenerys spent half an hour in the bath. As she stood up I could hear the water dripping down from her body and as I turned around I could see the water droplets on her body glisten. Her fair skin is made silky by the water. She steps down three steps and her body leaves a trail of water on the smooth stone floor. ¡°Enjoy your bath?¡± I asked her as she approached me. ¡°I did.¡± She replied. ¡°Enjoyed ogling my body? I could feel your gaze all over it.¡± ¡°You¡¯re right, I did enjoy watching.¡± I say without a hint of hesitation. Hands her the white dress. ¡°I suppose there is no type of undergarments for women in this world?¡± ¡°No there isn¡¯t. After spending 2 years in this body I haven¡¯t found anything remotely similar.¡± She puts on her new white dress. ¡°You spent 2 years here?¡± ¡°Yeah, you?¡± ¡°I spent 5 years¡± ¡°Damn¡ sucks to be you.¡± I chuckle as I escort her out of the bathing room. My armor clinks as the plates of my lamellar and my plate harnesses make contact with each other as I walk down the open hall. I look outside through the arches that hold up the roof. Outside you could see the garden, which is made brighter by the sun and lack of clouds, and see that many gardeners are at work maintaining the garden. I can see that they were enjoying their work. I turn back ahead of me and find an attendant who opened up the door that showed Viserys standing off to the right. Daenerys goes to stand to his left while I stand to her left. His attendant talks to him, mostly likely due to the Dothraki¡¯s tardiness. Many minutes have passed and the Dothraki still haven¡¯t arrived yet. Standing under the summer sun has definitely taken a toll on Viserys and Daenerys. I ask a maid to bring me an umbrella and after a minute she arrives with one and hands it to me. I opened up the umbrella and raised it over Daenerys'' head, she thanked me for this gesture. Horse hooves can be heard from the path as the barbarians finally emerge through the gates. Their faces were painted with black as their hair extended all the way down to their waist. They were topless as they rode their mounts. The attendant begins to speak as they halt in the courtyard. The one with the longest braid eyes Daenerys then appears to eye me. I eye him back. Our actions created a tension in the air that could only be felt by the both of us. After only a couple of minutes, they had abruptly departed much to the dismay of Viserys. As they depart he takes one last glance at me and I glare back at him. In the brief moment we crossed eyes we had learned a lot about each other. The major thing I learned was that their long hair had to mean something, maybe some kind of badge of honor. Ignoring this I turned to Daenerys. ¡°Are they whom I¡¯m against?¡± I whisper to her quietly in her ear. ¡°Yes they are who you are against.¡± She replies in the same fashion. ¡°I don¡¯t suppose you¡¯d be mad about my absence and the disappearance of a certain group?¡± I say happily. ¡°Of course not, you should go and have your fun.¡± She smiles. I then hand the umbrella to a maid to hold and I round up 2 of the 24 guards and make way to the stables. We mount up on top of our armored horses and make for a quick departure. I see that Daenerys waves us goodbye as we leave through the gates. Our horses make haste, little more than a trot, as we head towards the camp in which the Angelus Legion has been stationed. Our ride was two hours long as we rode on the path through the grassy plains. We came up to the camp they were stationed at and they were surrounded by a ditch and palisade reminiscent of a Roman marching camp. We entered through the gates and were greeted with the soldiers of the fort. I had marched to the center where the commander''s tent was located. I dismounted my horse and was promptly greeted by the officers of the Legion. I enter the tent, whose flaps were lifted by the sentries, and see a long table with a map of the surrounding area. I sat down at the head of the table while the other officers sat down as well. Compared to the Imperial Roman Legion, my group bore a smaller officer corps allowing for simplicity but limits the amount of maneuvers we can pull. I demanded a report on the Legion. The report came in as follows: food stocks and treasury were good but we¡¯re currently lacking in extra arms and armors. I asked them if they had any plans on how they were going to solve this issue, to which they didn¡¯t have an answer to. I then instructed them to find a way and informed them that we will engage in a battle against the Dothraki horde. Much to their surprise they shocked me with how fast they had agreed to such an idea. This idea could incur the wrath of the Dothraki on the entire region with their family in it but they agreed. They stated how the Dothraki threat has gone on for too long and decided it¡¯s time to put them down.If you find this story on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen. Please report the infringement. After an hour of discussion, we now see the legion march out her camp with only a few sentries staying back to guard it. The furious breeze of the wind blows our banners leaving them at full display. Our banners, embroidered, with an angel raising a cup on a crimson red background. Her wings spread as far as they could. At the top of every banner bore a cross. That cross represented my faith, as the general, to the God I serve. No one but myself understood the meaning of the cross other than I thought it looked cool. Our banners and streamers flew as the men marched through the grassy countryside. The boots stomped down the ground as the horses trampled the grass. Our march only took us 3 hours before sighting the Dothraki camp. I gazed down upon them before ordering the horse archers to wreak havoc on them. Orders rang out as they spurred their horses forward towards them. Other lieutenants scream at their men to form the battleline. With machine-like accuracy the soldiers formed up in record time, then began to march towards them. They¡¯re silent as they walk with the only noise being their boots hitting the ground, their faces plastered with no emotion. I look to see the horse archers skirmish down Dothraki and their slaves with a cold accuracy. They then begin to flee, doing the Parthian shot, as the Dothraki blood riders try to charge them. They do a feigned retreat and massacre the pursuing riders, who only continue forwards. The Dothraki foot soldiers now began to charge at my frontline. The archers and crossbowman rain down arrows and bolts on them. This blunts their charge as they run into the phalanx formed by the Legionnaires. They get impaled by a wall of spears, as they charge toward it. Horns blare as the lieutenants spur their men forward. They stabbed all those that stood before them, and stomped on all those that had fallen. With only a few hand gestures my heavy cavalry, the cataphracts, went around our wall and charged into the left flank of the lightly armed and poorly armed bastards. With only a single charge they had begun to rout as they felt the crushing impact of the cataphracts. The line horse began to run down the fleeing along with the archers as they shot down all those that fled. The horse archers returned after their turkey shoot, and began to skirmish down the runners as well. Much time had passed as they ran down the fleeing survivors of the battle. ¡°Captain.¡± A messenger reports. ¡°We have completed the massacre of the Dothraki, the liberation of the slaves and the looting of their camps. Your lieutenants ask for orders.¡± ¡°Inform them of our departure. Have them march back to the camp and crucify Drogo, whether dead or alive.¡± I order as I then begin to ride off with my guards back to the manor. I rode for 3 hours to return to the Targaryen estate to which Daenerys, our employer, lived. I rode through the gates in triumph after our battle. We were greeted with Daenerys, who stood before us, as I dismounted my horse. I bowed to her before I spoke. ¡°Your enemies have been vanquished in battle.¡± I explained to her. ¡°They no longer exist to threaten you.¡± ¡°You did well warrior, to overcome a force eight times larger than your own.¡± She replies with a smile. I stayed silent to her kind gesture as I knew about the knives that hid behind it. The smile that her body possessed could melt through any mental guard of anyone that didn¡¯t know. The greeting progressed to us walking down the serene halls. The sun turned the walls into a unique bright orange as she set below the water. The ethereal vibe that the sun had given us, made for a somber setting. Random thoughts seemed to have filled my mind as I turned my gaze towards the sun, then towards Daenerys. Her hair flowed with the wind and her dress pressed up against her, outlining her beautiful figure. She shines a seductive smile onto me, as she catches my gaze on her. She stops in her tracks and leans onto the stone railing. She looks at me and says something. I couldn¡¯t quite hear her as my gaze was focused only on her. My memory seemed to have stopped during our conversation. On the next day I found myself getting up from my bed, to which I have been given. I could see outside that the world was still dark. I equip my armor and gather my weapons. I quietly walk through the hall, as the bright moon illuminates the world below it. I arrived at Daenerys'' room where two of my personal guards could be seen flanking either side of the door. I then entered her room shutting the door behind me. The room lit up by both candles and the moon itself, gave a truly charming ambiance. I see Daenerys sitting up on her bed with her body in full display. I take a seat at her desk, gazing out through the arches of the room. Seeing the moon and her reflection gave that feeling of elegance. What feels to be many hours, the dark sky was burnt away with the sun¡¯s orange flare. ¡°Beautiful, wasn¡¯t it?¡± I was questioned. I turned to Daenerys who was the origin of the voice and answered her. ¡°Truly.¡± The only word that could come out of my mouth. We sat there relishing in the moment that had passed. ¡°For the last two years I got to see that view¡ it just never seems to have gotten old.¡± She said to me watching the moon finally fall below the waves. This moment felt very special as it was the only moment where we seemed to be relaxed. Only when the heavens turned blue, did we begin to regain our senses. She put on a white dress to which I teased about it being the only dress she has. She says the same thing to my armor to which I responded in kind. Our light banter in the morning brought us hope for the day. As we left her room, yelling could be heard from across the manor. We made haste to the main room to see Viserys, Daenerys¡¯ brother, yell at his advisor about the sudden disappearance of Drogo and his horde. He then beams his eyes towards us and begins to walk up to Daenerys. He apologized to Daenerys and told her about the death of Drogo. She returns with a fake weeping and says she was ¡°looking forward to it¡±. Our day passes as Viserys leaves fuming at the servant and Daenerys and I find ourselves on the balcony overlooking the ocean.
