《Chronicles Of The Wise One》
Prologue: Hassan Smith & The Double-slit Experiment
"Oi, mate? Where you from, mate? Betta'' run them pockets nice and safely now or you ain''t leavin'' to feed your pet parrot tonight!"
"Alright, alright!! This is all I have on me..!"
A typical morning in the UK!
It''s a good time to be alive right now! The snow would definitely be the least of your problems when there''re people walking around stabbing others with a ski mask.
I had bought cup noodles from a nearby store but it seems like I have no place to eat them in.
This park¡ªor whatever this frozen place is will do.
I went over to one of the metal benches but it turns out the paint wasn''t dry yet.
"Bollocks!" I scowled as I walked off with my food. The ice was unexpectedly slippery so instead of sitting down, I gathered all of my strength to remain standing in the middle of the freezing winter.
The cup was already open, slipping even a tiny bit would cause the noodles to fly out. I had a spare fork in my pocket for this moment alone, but then I accidentally stabbed it into the cup.
"Great." I sighed.
When I pulled the fork out, the hot noodles spilled to the ice below me, causing it to become fragile enough to shatter under my weight.
*Splash*
The realization that I was standing on a frozen lake quickly hit me, but was cup noodles even hot enough to melt ice?!
"Cup noodles shouldn''t be able to break ice!!" I thought to myself as I desperately try to get back to the surface.
Once I reached the surface, I do my best to regain my stamina when a tree abruptly snaps and falls to my head, crushing me and bringing me back into the water.
Doesn''t this feel like a certain movie?
Well, it probably doesn''t matter now that I''m met with a death screen¡ªlike when you die in that one block game!
Everything is bright red for some reason...
"Is this really death? Aw shucks." I said to myself, waiting for something to appear.Stolen from its rightful place, this narrative is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.
A few minutes pass and then I could see properly again. Most of what I could perceive with my eyes was that I was under the deep blue sea and there were bubbles floating back to the surface.
For some odd reason, I could breathe normally here.
I thought I was experiencing some kind of insanity until a man¡ªor something shaped like a man appeared.
He walked on surface tension, to put it simply.
The man was standing on the surface of the water, and he had no facial features, he was just stone shaped like a man.
"Welcome... Welcome to the primordial sea of all earthly creation..." Said the man walking above me.
Now, insects normally walk on surface tension because of science whatevers, mostly because of their size and weight so creatures as big as humans shouldn''t be able to do that. Moreover, he''s walking underwater!
I''ve read about a special man like him before, but that man only walked on the surface of the water, not under the water. And there''s no possible way this guy could be Jesus, right?
"I am one of the 8 good angels of the 4 cardinal directions. I am Uwmll, the angel of the east who specializes in recreation." He states. "You have been brought after a tragic accident, and normally we shouldn''t interfere with life and death, but you have rather made quite the death if I do say so myself. In other words, the chances of you dying there were so low that the world experienced difficulties in trying to prevent it from happening. Instead of fixing it in the end, it decided to give up and split itself in two."
"Peculiar... I thought myself that I simply got dragged into water, but I suppose an ocean would be strange in a British city." I replied.
"Not to worry however, because as it turns out, it was simply the fault of the world. For a British person like you, I don''t expect you to know or have heard about the double-slit experiment, but in simple terms, this entire thing is basically just like it. The world, or may I say the macrocosm, experienced your death taking place and predicted an outlandish bounce in the structure of space which will disturb and possibly destroy multiple galaxies, so it opted to stop it, but in the end, it only resulted in you getting hit by the tree after getting out the water."
"Jesus H. Christ!"
"Unfortunately or fortunately for you, you have balanced your sinful and good acts counter, and so with your unplanned death, we have decided to send your consciousness off to a different world as it is considered the best option."
"What?! Who decided that?! I just wanna be a ghost or something, man! Don''t give me another life in this stupid planet again!"
"Well. Can''t help it. I''m only an angel, you ought to ask my manager, god, for that. Though, I will answer your first question practically: It was through process of elimination."
And then my vision started to get blurry and I slowly felt like I was drowning under the ocean like I was supposed to in the first place.
"Wait! If you''re gonna do that, please let me continue living as a human or something! Or actually, a rabbit¡ªor no, a dinosaur or anything that''s not miserable!!"
"May thine soul resteth without stint until thy return." His voice echoed as I gradually lose consciousness.
I feel like this guy mixed some things up. Reincarnation isn''t supposed to be literal in your religion! Isn''t reincarnation only in Buddhism?!
I don''t wanna live in a place like this again!!
Chapter 1: Magic
It seems that I''m a child in an orphanage now.
I don''t exactly know why or how I''m here but the angel told me that I''d be sent to a different world.
Though, as far as I can see, there''s not much abnormalities around so I wonder what''s the difference here if I was actually transferred away from Earth. It''s hard to tell because of the location I''m in. Being in a small town somewhere in the middle of a forest is not really advantageous.
Looking at the mirror: I can see a blonde girl at the age of 6. Her name is Meyraqyrofy/Mrqfy, or at least that''s what people call her. She has short hair and... rabbit ears, I think? Noone else has them, but noone seem to mind either. ...I doubt this is the only difference between earth and this world, though.
It''d be nice to have rabbit-eared people back there, but on second thought, nevermind.
At first, I was mesmerized, then I realized that this girl was actually me! It''s crazy how a British man can turn into such a beautiful girl overnight. It really baffles me!
There was also a strange thing called ''Magic'' here. It seems that magic is exactly what it sounds like¡ªrelative to the meaning it was given back on earth.
It works by creating as you speak(abracadabra).
"Child, you best not dwell deep into the forest or else you''ll find thyself in big trouble." Says one of the caretakers. I believe people call her ''Renny'', a pretty normal name unlike mine...
Learning their language was difficult due to my experiences with English. But I still managed to reply. "Well... I am well-informed that going into a dark and scary place will kill me so don''t worry much."
...A long week passed by and I was eventually sent out into a clearing to help Renny pick some edibles for the others.
"May I ask, why don''t you enlist in the military so you can leave this godforsaken lifestyle?" He said whilst plucking mushrooms of the ground.
"What? Oh, I''d rather not join those barbarians! How rude are you to encourage a little girl to get bombed to hell out in the wilds?!" I irritatedly responded.
There shouldn''t be any reason for me join the military, at least, for now. Our supplies and resources here may be low but that won''t be enough for us to be forced into hard labour.
Though, a caretaker trying to hook kids into the military really is something I didn''t expect to experience in this world...
"No, no, no..! Let me speak for a moment here-"The story has been illicitly taken; should you find it on Amazon, report the infringement.
"Do I look like I have some sort of talent I can use to gain advantage in the battlefield?"
"Hmmm... You''d pretty much be a walking meal, or target for such matters..." He looks at my long rabbit ears. "But wait, that''s not what I was trying to point out here."
He sits down on the grass as I was trying to find berries in a bush.
I glance at him the same time I do my job.
We had enough food for today because of yesterday but people would think we''re lazy if we came back with less resources.
"You see, Meyraqyrofy, not only are you gorgeous and beautiful¡ªI say that while trying to not sound weird by the way¡ªbut you''re also capable of doing magic, or at the very least, you have some potential to do so." He''s really starting to sound just like a recruiter now.
"We still have some time, so why don''t we... Do some magic?"
"I''d like it if you spoke to me without sounding like some dirtbag... But I''ve read that magic is forbidden for poverty-stricken people like us due to insufficient nutrients and such." I''ve read about it in a book back in the orphanage!
"Don''t worry about it, it mostly uses mental strength and not physical strength. Though, I must admit, it''s pretty scary how you can already think and sound like an adult at the age of 6, but that takes care of the mental strength problem." He states. "Firstly, try some invocations. We thought you guys well, didn''t we? Best you use that knowledge for useful and ethical purposes, like magic in this context!"
Some invocations? If I remember correctly, the caretakers made us memorize and recite invocations, but none of us¡ªincluding me¡ªreally understood what we were supposed to do so we simply took it as some kind of basic prayer.
I put down the basket of food to stand in front of Renny before doing as he asked.
"Hmmm... I think it went like this... Oh, our heavenly lord, please bring forth to us the blessings of thy might. Even a tad bit of your life-powers will do mine a favor."
"No, no. Say it with more faith and passion! That should be enough, though, so now try casting [Revitalize] on the field before us."
"Revitalize? Alrighty then..." I closed my eyes and spoke. "Oh, dearest spirits and angels... Cast upon the soil, [Revitalize]!"
And to my disbelief, a patch of grass grew taller and denser than the rest.
"Wataah..?!" My jaw dropped seeing magic for the first time.
"Wow. It''s been years since I''ve last seen magic, and it''s the first time I''ve seen a 6 year old do it!"
We were both astounded.
But one thing immediately came to mind; was this how got here? Did that angel use this ''magic'' to reform me into this body?
With a new lead, I think I might be able to find my way back into earth after all..! I''ve played card games and table games with magic and other supernatural abilities to beat other people with, so there''s gotta be something like those that I can use to get back to earth!
I really don''t want to live here with primitive technology and no internet access so I''d much rather stay in Earth than in this medieval fantasy world.
"Great! Now, with you in the picture, there will at least be one less Toqian fuckers in the world!" Renny laughed.
"Eh? What did you just say?"
...4 months later, I found myself sitting in the barracks of Yu''uia¡ªin the capital city of this nation.
It seems that the people here hate the neighbouring country, which is Toqia.... Renny paid me all of his life-savings and sent me to enlist in the military. They happily took me in, seeing my talent as a mage. There hasn''t been much 6 year olds that could use magic before, especially in this nation, and with the military''s manpower and human resources not meeting the unrealistic bars they''ve placed upon themselves, anyone could join in and give themselves the standard bolt-action rifle, or sword, or staff.
Sigh...
So much for magic. Guess all it''s gonna do for me is dive me straight into death.
Chapter 2: War
Curse that man named Renny! I wouldn''t have gotten into this mess if I didn''t show him any magic in the first place!
Well, it''s good to know that I can use magic though, so I should probably thank him for that.
It seems that the nation I''m in is called ''Strauk''. At the far east of their capital city, where I''m currently in, Toqian troops were settled 48 hours after the declaration of war that I haven''t heard of back at the orphanage.
...As I was still a 6 year old, the only thing I''d meet at the battlefield was death, so I was assigned to study magic and other necessary fields to immediately throw myself into battle.
Due to the undeveloped technology of this world and my modern knowledge however, I managed to pass without difficulties despite having no experience in these kinds of things.
...I was put on a stage as a young prodigy and it didn''t take long for me to get sent into the front lines.
"Grrr..!!" I grit my teeth as I waited inside one of the aircrafts flying over an enemy artillery line. The Straukan commanders gave me a mission to cut off Toqian communications, which they said was ''relatively easy'' once I knew how to cast fireballs.
Surprisingly, magic is not that difficult to handle even during times like these.
For offensive spells, I just take one of the military-grade magical incendiary shells and put it on the device the weapon designers attached on my arm. I then fire the shell at 10,000km/h, aimed towards the targets my allies pointed at.
*Boom!*
That almost missed..! But I managed to destroy the target anyways...
As expected, there was a strict limit to what I can do. At the age of 6, I can only crush a platoon and maybe some artilleries at the same time. The Straukans didn''t care much though, as they simply ordered me to fire again, causing me to lose consciousness with the 2nd target destroyed.
...A few hours after that, I found myself inside a hospital at the capital city that I just left.
"Hey! Hey, you awake?"
"Mrrr..?" I slowly opened my eyes to see an officer standing next to my bed.
"Ah!" I yelped in surprise.
"No need to be so tense, Meyraqyrofy. I''m 2nd lieutenant Eiwel, it''s a honour to meet you." He proclaimed.
"Ah..! And my name is Meyraqyrofy! What might you be doing here, Lieutenant?"
"...After your brilliant showcase of power, a ton of people were impressed." He states, whilst opening the window and taking out a cigarette. "We sent you here to rest for a while. Don''t think too bad of us, as we simply wanted to see how much Toqian forces you could des- I mean; we only wished to see what a prodigy like you could contribute to this war before we can finally put you into a proper field."This story has been stolen from Royal Road. If you read it on Amazon, please report it
I feel like he was about to show his hatred for our neighbors there... But anyways, this will be great! If they know I''d faint from just taking out 2 targets, then there''s no way they''d send me back to the front lines!
"Great! So-"
"So we''ve evaluated your abilities and decided that you''d be fit for covert operations." He blows the smoke out the window, then turns to me with a grin. "Congratulations, Meyraqyrofy. You''re now in the Magical Special Task Force unit 5." He claps.
"Eh..? So... What am I gonna do there?"
"Let me say this in a way that you can understand; basically, we''re going to send you out into the undergrounds and the backgrounds of wars and give you a mission to infiltrate and/or destroy enemy nations from within."
What??! My my. If I knew that this would happen, I''d never have joined the military in the first place!
"Heh. Sorry, Lieutenant, but my entire lower half is paralyzed. Would you be so kind as to inform the higher ups that I''m going to retire and head into the mountains to rebuild my body using magic for 20 years now?" I lied.
"Nope. We''ve already examined your body thoroughly and there weren''t any injuries as far as the best doctors of this city know."
*Thud!*
I slam the table beside me and stood up from the bed. Eiwel looks down at me from his chair, still smoking his cigarette.
"Not to worry, Sergeant Meyraqyrofy, your missions will be simple. Either you have to make rumors and destroy enemy morale, or assassinate the king in his sleep. They won''t require anything troublesome, I promise you."
"I retire."
"You may be a child, but someone with your abilities will be needed or else millions will die. You know that, right, Sergeant?"
"Well, personally, I don''t give a shit about those people. I only wanna know how to get back to earth. Do you know, Lieutenant?"
Unexpectedly, he gives me a new lead to getting back home.
"...Of course..! Is it something like travelling between worlds? I can tell you how to do such thing, but I''m afraid that it''s not something you could do right now. Though, I could give you a reward akin to what you wanted." He then turns back to the window. "Say, what is more important? Millions and millions of human lives, or one psychopath''s life..?"
I don''t think I am psychopath, but it must be what people think of me... Though, I do consider myself important. "Easy, I''d choose myself."
"As expected. But for me and the millions, we''d choose otherwise. So if you don''t take the position given to you, let''s just say that you may never find a way back to that place you mentioned."
While I may be strong, I doubt I could defeat an entire nation, and even if they don''t come after me, I don''t think going around looking for another clue would be quick too... So for the sake of getting back home to watch videos on the internet as soon as possible, I''ll cooperate for a bit!
"F-fine... But I''ll only work with you guys until you give me a way back home, alright!?"
"That''s good enough. We''ll give you what we can once this war is over. Unlike the last couple wars Strauk has been in, this one particular war will be extremely decisive so I care not what you will do after this, as long as we destroy those Toqians."
So it''s only after the war, huh?
I''d prefer if they gave me information on how to get back home now, but my new job sounds relatively easy... Perhaps there might be some twist to it, considering my magical abilities? There''s no way they''d just send me out to spread hate and discouraging words on the enemy''s place when I can do a crap ton of damage with just 2 moves.
Well, whatever! I''ll just do what they told me to do then! If Strauk falls then I''ll just search through their remains and find the answer myself!
Though, I do wonder if Eiwel''s reward is actually a way for me to get back home, or if it''s just something else close to it...
Chapter 3: Cutoff
After my conversation with Eiwel at the hospital, I was dropped back to training for a year before getting thrown into enemy territory under my real name, but with a ''Lewynar'', so basically, I''m now ''Meyraqyrofy Lewynar'' in this mission.
...The endless sounds of people chattering and horses running were the only things I could''ve heard under the roads of Afer Wealtenrel¡ªthe city responsible for producing more than 31% of the resources for the Toqian military¡ªthis city is twice the size of Yu''uia, and roughly 1.4 times the population too!
I don''t want to sound like a fan but this place was really glorified by my allies. They made me expect something huge and dangerous, but I can''t even sense much danger...
From my training, I''ve gained 3 powerful skills and spells:
[Invertible Ark] - A complex spell that, in short, crushes bones and twists flesh into something abstruse.
[Incandescence Torpedo] - A spell that''s basically what it sounds like¡ªan invisible torpedo that will melt everything in its way before exploding when I decide to.
[Diamond Rain] - A spell that rains diamonds at the target. It was able to pierce through tank armour and other hard materials during my training.
[Vortex Claw] - A skill that allows me to lunge forward at a target with enough strength to pierce them with my bare hand.
[Card Reversal] - A skill that I personally named. It allows me to convert magic into physical strength.
[Achsc uWefhz?gghra Seqqarmit] - A skill that the elite professional Straukan Magicians told me to only use in the worst case scenario when all my other forms of attacking and escaping fails.
There were many other basic skills and spells too but they weren''t as powerful as those ones.
For detecting humanoid life forms, I can use [Detect III], which is also what helped me get here so quickly. Other spells aided me as well, as the Straukans couldn''t get me over to enemy territory without getting found.
As an apology, they gave me a lot of food and water for my trip!
...My mission here was to destroy the industrial producers, factories, and whatnots with an end goal of starving Toqian soldiers and lowering their resources for military purposes.
This city is pretty nice though. Everyone is friendly, the crime rate is near 0, and it''s just a good city overall. I''d actually live here if there wasn''t a war going on right now.
I sent my reports to Strauk, and they came back with a message to complete my objectives while lowering civilian involvement as much as possible.
They not only align with my preference of not wanting to destroy this city, but they also seem to have laws in war too! Not bad, Straukans... Not bad.
At the 5th night of my stay here, I decided to strike one of the factories with [Incandescence Torpedo].
*Boom!*
The explosion wiped 30% of the entire industrial area off the map, but I still have more mana, so I fired off 3 more of the same spell.
...After an hour of destroying the resource production area, I went back to my little underground base that I set up using wooden boards and steel pipes in the sewers.
I reported to the Straukans that my job here was done.
This story is posted elsewhere by the author. Help them out by reading the authentic version.
Over 31% of Toqian military resources is now cut off, which will allow Straukan forces to have an advantage in the battlefield not too long after this.
"Good job, Sergeant Meyraqyrofy, you''ve been promoted to Staff Sergeant!" I could hear clapping from the other side as they said that.
Looks like old people really are praising a 7 year old for destroying industrial facilities. What a strange world this is.
"It''s your great debut, Sergeant, but something about it seems fishy..." A voice from the other side states. "The lack of Toqian struggle and military deployment in Wealtenrel makes me think that there''s something else''s going on..."
"Huh? What do you mean, Commander? Are you implying that they anticipated this and already have something in mind for when this happens?"
"Not much clues we have right now, Sergeant, but we''ll do our best to resettle things when a problem occurs. Rest assured, you won''t suffer any consequences." Saying that won''t make me feel safer, though... "We shall await your return, Sergeant Meyraqyrofy. Over."
There was static in the radio, and I could no longer hear my allies.
Well, I guess it''s time for me to go home- or go back to my allies. Maybe the path back to my real home, earth, won''t be so long after all..! Hehehe..! I''d like it if I was able to carry my magic over to earth, but then again, standing out can be too troublesome sometimes.
...I spent 2 more days before finally packing my stuff up and leave.
The sewer systems were destroyed because of my recklessness so I decided to head back to Strauk on the surface. There was another tunnel system relative to the ones in Wealtenrel, but it''s pretty far away when you''re above ground.
...I stopped by a lake to rest, putting down all of the military equipment Strauk gave me. It was tiring carrying all these heavy items all day long, even with physical enhancement spells. After all, I''m still just a child.
"Hah..." I sighed, sitting down a tree stump, eating canned food whilst looking at the foggy lake before me. It was in the middle of the night, right before I had to sleep after making sure that there were no enemies within 40km of this lake.
As I threw away the now empty can of food, a voice yells in pain along the sound of metal hitting something.
"Ow!" The feminine voice was faint, but I could still hear it.
"Who''s there?!" I immediately pulled out my handgun and activated [Detection V], which detects non-human life forms as well.
I could sense many bugs and insects, and among them was a slippery insect-sized humanoid creature. I picked it up from near the water, and it seems like I actually wasn''t dreaming.
"Ow..! Ow..! Put me down..!!"
What was this weird creature? It spoke in Stekk, the same language both Straukans and Toqians use.
"...Are you one of them military folks?! I see... Judging by your uniform and your rabbit ears, I can tell you''re from Ecaven! Am I right?!"
Ecaven is one of Strauks neighbors, I can guess why it thinks I''m from that place when strange beasts roam about in there. It''s friendly at the moment and we even share resources, but there''s no way we have the same military uniform as them...
"Who might you foul insect be? Speak thy name or thou shalt feel the wrath of lead." I exclaimed, rubbing the barrel of my handgun on the winged humanoid.
"Hehehe..! No need to be so formal! And- ow..! Stop rubbing that thing on me! It smells like gunpowder! Crap..! A- Achoo!" It sneezes, making me put away my handgun. "...Yer gonna pay for that, ya hear me?! What makes you think you''re superior to me, wicked beast!"
It babbled on and on until I finally put it down.
"You..! Oh. Ah, sorry for my childish behaviour..!" It laughed awkwardly. "Perhaps it''s because I haven''t introduced myself yet... I''m an Asrai, you can call me whatever you want. And you?"
Asrais? I haven''t heard of them before. Not even the fantasy books mentioned them...
"Asrai..? Well then, I''ll call you Ashtray. My name is Meyraqyrofy Lewynar... I''m just a Str- I mean... Ecavenian soldier... about to go home with a... message from the Toqians..." I nervously spoke.
"Why so slow? Feeling ill? No will? Haven''t grilled... a fish?"
"Fish? Are you stupid? It''s the midnight and I''m in a lake! There''s no considering grilling a fish at this moment!"
"I thought you came here to fish, which is what most people do... I''m a water spirit, and I occasionally help people fish here..! So what''s your deal then?!"
I sighed then went over to my tent. I tried to dismiss this encounter as a dream, but then the Asrai appeared inside my tent.
"Hey! I''m not done with you yet! If you''re going over to Ecaven, then take me with you! I also need to go there!"
As I was extremely sleepy, I decided to agree, unable to think about the consequences. "Alright... Now shoo... Shoo..."
I immediately fell asleep. It''s been a long day, and I haven''t slept out on the surface for a few weeks now. It was too refreshing to breathe fresh air again, even when there''s an unfamiliar insect flying around me. But there were some people back on earth who dealt with deadly unknown bugs to post it on the internet, so if they can survive, then I probably can too.
Chapter 4: Vacation
I managed to safely arrive at Yu''uia, but unintentionally, i brought along the strange insect that called itself an Asrai.
According to some research my allies did under my orders, Asrais are water spirits¡ªthey''re pretty much just fairies that live in water.
The particular Asrai I brought with me was then taken away as a test subject because the other high ranking officers thought I was keeping it as a pet. They didn''t listen to me when I tried to take it back, putting aside my reasons as childish behaviour.
I don''t know what happened to it after that but I doubt I''m gonna need it later in my life so bye-bye water spirit!
...And so with the significantly huge loss of supplies, the Toqians were relentlessly massacred by the Straukans. Enemy forces were pushed back to their capital and now we''re at a stalemate as another nation joins in, siding with the Toqians.
Since my arrival here, allied military performance has improved by a lot, coupled with my recent achievement of destroying that really underguarded military supply production area, I was given a cool badge that supposedly only 16 people in the entire history of this nation has received.
With such high expectations, you''d think I''d instantly get sent back into war for another super secret special mission, but no. My seniors told me to go rest for the week as a reward for helping out the entire nation despite the burdens and problems they stacked on me.
To be honest, it wasn''t much work for me, but I''ll take this vacation for granted!
...Wanting to rest for a bit, I went back to the barracks and encountered Eiwel sitting on my bed.
"Hey! What''re you doing here, prick?!" I exclaimed.
"Staff Sergeant Meyraqyrofy, aren''t you speaking a bit too rude, especially when you''re in such a serious business?" He sighs. The man then takes off his gloves and puts his cap on the bedside table.
"We''ve been looking for a person like you since the very first war, and now that the primary source of solace has been brought upon us, we tire ourselves in trying to perfectionate everything¡ªmainly due to our lack of faith of ever finding such blessing."
It''s understandable. If a 1 in a million¡ªor trillion chance for this matter¡ªappeared before me, just like what I''ve been waiting for my entire life, I''d freak out and scramble all over the floor trying to create the perfect plan like I was never even planning for when this actually happens in the first place.
"Heh. Aren''t I so great? I guess I could even be called the literal incarnation of perfection itself!" I proclaimed.
With my golden yellow hair, my big bright crimson red eyes, and my exceptionally smooth skin, I might as well be the embodiment of perfection! But little do they know, I''m actually just some old British dude..! Hehehe... May this information never be revealed to them..!
"I was right in convincing you to remain with the military. You know... You could''ve just joined another nation, or actually, you could''ve became a handful of trouble for us, but you didn''t. Either you''re just unaware, or you actually preferred to be part of us Straukans and fight for this nation..." He laughs.
If you come across this story on Amazon, it''s taken without permission from the author. Report it.
Eiwel stood up, walked behind me, and then gave me a clock. "Nonetheless, I''m still grateful for you. We all are. Thank you for your hard work, Sergeant Meyraqyrofy. And enjoy your vacation."
"And thank you too. Though, I feel like something else is going on behind the scenes... You won''t stab me in the back and burn me at the stake after I''ve done my part, won''t you?"
"Be not afraid, Sergeant... We''re all your allies. Not a single soul will lay a finger on you as long as you remain by our side." He slowly flattens my long white ears by patting my head before leaving shortly after.
I saw that he forgot to take his gloves and cap with him. But before giving them back, I noticed something inside one of his gloves.
I checked, and found a letter and a key! How mysterious..!
The letter says: "Dear, Staff Sergeant Meyraqyrofy, this is Lieutenant Eiwel Sten. I''ve written this as I cannot speak to you verbally at the moment. Cwkviw Arqw Nevrssan Apolys III is listening to everything that makes a sound in Yu''uia now. Your new mission is to assassinate him after your vacation. Just be aware to never speak of your current mission and go on about your day like you don''t have anything to do with the military anymore."
As expected... He didn''t come here just to thank me... That sly little bastard..! Oh, and his gloves smell horrible. I''ll go wash my hands, and his gloves, for the sake of cleanliness later.
For the time being, I''ll go do what he told me to do... But what''s with this key, though? There''s a tag that says "Winterfall Orphanage", so I assume it''s the key for the orphanage that I came from. Is he telling me to go back to those people? Renny was the main cause for all of this in the first place, I don''t know if I should thank him or not.
...Using one of the vehicles from the military, I drove myself back to the orphanage where I was in just a few months ago.
Everyone was happy and excited to see me, like I was some kind of hero. Renny was there as well, with a face that''s more surprised than the others.
"My god..! Meyraqyrofy, you''re back!!" He shouts. "I''ve been worried sick thinking that you broke your bones from bombing those Toqians, but seems like you''re feeling better than ever!"
His voice is annoying..! But I shouldn''t abuse my power as an officer now.
Most of them jumped at me while yelling, whilst some watched from a distance, clapping their hands.
Among them was a dark-haired girl named Risa. She was the daughter of one of the higher ranking officers in the military, so I figured I''d go and befriend her for a better chance of rising up in the ranks, or so that''s what I told myself.
"Hmmm... You''re Risa Oxes, right? The daughter of Tereq Oxes?" I asked.
"Hm? Huh?! Me?! Oh, Mey- Meyer- I mean, Meyraqorufy- I mean, Meyraqy- Meyra-"
"It''s Meyraqyrofy. It''s not that hard to say, you know?"
It''s really not that hard to say... It''s pronounced simply as "?me?-ra-?ka?.r??-fi" or "may-ra-kay-ro-fi" in English! I''m not sure who originally named me, but if I could, I''d change my name into something more basic, like "Alice" or something..!
"Oh, I''m sorry, I''m sorry..! Right, I''m Tereq Oxes'' daughter, so what might you need from me?" She whispers.
"Hmmm... Nothing... I just wanted to thank all of you guys for helping me out here, y''know? It was real nice here! And you, Risa, give my thanks to your father for giving me this... Uhh... Cool badge!"
If I remember correctly, Tereq Oxes was one of the people who awarded me this badge.
"Ah, right! Alright, I will do so, Sergeant Mey..."
"Meyraqyrofy!"
...I then spent half of the week in the orphanage, talking with others and catching up with everyone else.
There was this strange feeling that I was being stalked by something in the far distance whilst I went on about my day. It was thanks to my instincts that I could sense it¡ªbut it also awakened something within me, which I assume is my defensive systems reacting to the target Eiwel ordered me to assassinate after this vacation.
I don''t really know what it is, but it must be some kind of magic from the Toqians and their new allies. Noone can tell me much about it either because it can allegedly hear everything in Yu''uia.
Well. I''ll just have wait for further details once I need to do my job. It''s annoying, but I gotta get back home to earth somehow.
