《Sovereign of Stardust》 Prologue Thousands of years ago, the world was thrown into chaos. A cataclysmic disaster the likes of which Nexusia had never seen appeared. The figure of that disaster was the Lord Of Fiend, The One Who Is Many, The Harbinger of Destruction or if Humans today call him, the Demon King. The Lord of Fiend started out as a weak and helpless creature, only able to hide in the shadows while plotting to conquer the world that had laughed at him and not accepted him. Days passed, weeks passed and before he knew it, years had passed and the Lord of Fiend had grown stronger, his strength at the time able to attract the attention of races that were just like him, oppressed and unaccepted. It didn''t take long for the Lord of Fiend to establish his army and begin invading Nexusia as a whole. The Elven Kingdom was the first to be affected by the Lord Of Fiend''s attack, followed by other kingdoms that fell under the mighty Lord Of Fiend''s rule one by one. In his mission to conquer Nexusia, Lord of Fiend was indiscriminate and destroyed everything in front of him, even the temples where the Gods were worshiped. The Gods and Goddesses who felt angry about the Lord Of Fiend''s increasingly arbitrary actions, especially since many of the Champions of the Gods and Goddesses whom Lord Fiend had succeeded in killing or inciting to be on his side. Thus, down came the Gods from their realm, Jerdin Celeste. When the God of War faced the Lord Of Fiend and his minions, he found it very difficult to face the Lord Of Fiend, especially since his army was very strong, so the Gods and Goddesses of Jerdin Celeste decided to raise the status of the Human Race and give them technology that was far more advanced than what they should have. The alliance of the Gods and Goddesses of Jerdin Celeste and the Human Race then counterattacked the Lord Of Fiend and his army. After more than 500 years of warfare, the entire Nimoya Continent, Arafuru Islands and Aegis Continent were liberated. But all of that was not without sacrifice, many of the Gods and Goddesses of Jerdin Celeste had to die as a result of this devastating war and some were split into dozens of pieces containing their powers, these pieces were scattered throughout Nexusia. Now there were only two Gods and Goddesses left from Jerdin Celeste, and even then they were both battered and dying, so, the two of them retreated to Jerdin Celeste and locked themselves up. It was not a wise move, because with the two remaining Gods and Goddesses gone, Humanity had no one to guide them and advise them. The Heavenly War had just finished, the Nexus War ensued and lasted for centuries, causing a great deal of technology, culture and knowledge to disappear. Billions of lives were lost like they were worth nothing and once again the remaining Deities of Jerdin Celeste had to intervene to take back all that the Deities of Jerdin Celeste had bestowed. Now, Humanity is back in the age of swords and sorcery, they do not know the story of their past and their greatness when they were in the past. They knew of the Celestial War because the Deity Jerdin Celeste made thousands of inscriptions that were spread throughout Nexusia, to keep people aware of the rise of the Lord Of Fiend that would appear sometime in the future and to not repeat the mistakes of their predecessors who started the Nexusia War. 200 years before the story begins. Several groups of Empires decided to merge into one, a mighty Empire that conquered almost half of the Velandria Continent. The Eisenblut Empire has a system called the Elector Council, where each representative of the Kingdoms will elect the Emperor who will lead the Empire for the next 15 years, this system initially received a lot of opposition and in the early days of the Eisenblut Empire there were many rebellions. However, the Eisenblut Empire has stood for more than 200 years and has not been shaken at all until now, especially since each Emperor has no limit in running for Emperor. During the time of Emperor Gustav Sternenhimmel, the Eisenblut Empire became more expansionist and often fought wars with other countries on the Velandria Continent who called themselves the Coalition of Nations. This coalition consisted of more than 30 small kingdoms or countries that did not like the vision and mission of the Eisenblut Empire which was becoming increasingly aggressive. The Coalition War had been going on for 20 years and had produced nothing but suffering for both sides. The Coalition, which was already at its limit, finally decided to call for a ceasefire and peace was chosen, the Empire was also on the brink of crisis due to the prolonged war and was very grateful to be given room to breathe. But this story is not about them... The story begins simply enough, in a town called Orrinshire in the Western Province of the Eisenblut Empire. .... ....... The morning sunlight gently penetrated through the window cloth in a room, in this room also lay a young woman who was still sleeping on her bed. The young woman seemed to groan as the sunlight hit her eyes, she slowly woke up from her deep sleep. The young woman then slowly sat up. "Mhm... It''s morning again... Why does the world feel so fast." The young lady stretched a little. After feeling a little more refreshed from stretching, the young lady opened the cloth on her window and she immediately saw the charming cityscape. Many people were already out and about, some street vendors were opening their stalls and birds were chirping. The young lady smiled gently at the sight. "New day, new spirit." The young lady said with a chuckle. "Lucena! Lucena! Wake up young lady! You want to not have a partner for the rest of your life?!" An older woman''s voice was heard from below the room of the young woman named Lucena. Lucena laughed at the shout. "Yes mom! I''m already awake!" "Oh you must really be awake, or I''ll kick your ass! Come quickly young lady, it''s a new day!" Lucena hurriedly stripped off her nightclothes one by one until she was not wearing a single piece of clothing, Lucena ran her fingers through her long hair that reached her back. She then went to the corner of the room where there was a large bucket filled with water, Lucena put her hand on a fire-like carving on the bucket and slowly the water in the bucket warmed up. Lucena took a clean cloth that was nearby and began to clean every part of her body. After finishing wiping her body with water, Lucena then walked to her wardrobe and put on her usual clothes, a white dress with some brown spots indicating that it was not washed clean. Lucena then walked out of her room and walked down the stairs. As she descended, she saw her mother preparing a green bread and jam. Lucena walked with an occasional jump and hugged her mother. Lucena''s mother, who was hugged, was a little surprised, before she finally said. "Lucena! I swear, one day you will be the death of me!" Lucena just chuckled at that. "Sorry mom, it''s just that I always like it when I see you surprised." "You are, you little... You really look like your father." Lucena''s mother''s tone softened and she stroked Lucena''s head. "Of course, I''m your father and mother''s son! By the way, where is your father? I don''t see him." Lucena said looking around, she had already released her bear hug on her mother. This story has been unlawfully obtained without the author''s consent. Report any appearances on Amazon. "Your father got a job as a miner in the South Mine, he left when it was still dark." Said Lucena''s mother, who continued to clear the table. "Dad finally got a job, eh? It''s been since... Two months?" Lucena recalled. "More or less, he was so happy to get a job that he didn''t tell his own daughter." Lucena''s mother chuckled, making Lucena puff out her cheeks. "Mom! Ah never mind, I''m hungry, what''s on the menu this morning?" Lucena sat on the chair. "Slime bread and jam." Lucena''s mom answered briefly. "My favorite." Lucena then quickly ate the large bread in front of her with the green jam. "Oh yeah, are you going to the temple again today?" Lucena''s mother asked. "Of course, why are you?" Lucena asked back. "Nothing, it''s just..." Lucena''s mother bit her bottom lip. Lucena smiled at her mother. "Someone has to pray for her every day, Mom, to make sure that she''s treated well in Jerdin Celeste." "I know Lucy, it''s just... It''s been over 20 years I guess? I even stopped after giving birth to you." Lucena''s mother said as she clenched her hands into fists. Lucena smiled sadly at her mother and walked over and hugged her from behind. "Oh mom... I''m sorry if it makes you sad, but you know how I am." "Yes... You look too much like your father and it makes me a little upset." Lucena''s mother laughed, her voice trembling. Lucena smiled then released her hug to her mother and continued eating. After finishing her breakfast, Lucena picked up a brown bag and put on her shoes. "Mom, I''m leaving first!" "Yes! Be careful on the road! And remember!" "Don''t follow strangers, mom!" Lucena walked out laughing. Once outside, various scents immediately invaded Lucena''s nose. She smelled the meat vendors were selling, the fresh fruits and the most distinctive was the bakery in front of Lucena''s house. In front of the bakery was a young man with brown hair and beautiful emerald green eyes, Lucena was excited to see him. "Gustaaf! Where are you going?" Lucena asked excitedly. "Oh?! Lucy! Gosh you startled me a bit, I want to practice my sword at the edge of the forest, do you want to go to the temple again?" Gustaaf asked while holding his sheathed sword. "Yes, hehehe... I''ll go first, Gustaaf." Lucena smiled and was about to leave. But suddenly Gustaaf grabbed Lucena''s arm which made Lucena stop and tense up. Gustaaf reluctantly released his grip. "Ah! I-I''m sorry, Lucy! I didn''t mean to..." "I-yes hahaha... I''m just surprised that you suddenly grasped my hand quite strongly, what''s wrong Gustaaf?" Asked Lucena who had regained her composure, but she looked at Gustaaf with a look that was hard to interpret. "After you go to the Temple, can you accompany me to practice? I uhh... My mother said that I can practice as long as I bring someone who can heal my wounds and you''re the only one I know who can use Healing Magic well enough, please help me this time, Lucy!" Gustaaf bowed his body slightly. Lucena let out a long sigh before continuing. "Alright, but after the Temple, okay? I have to pay my respects first, I can''t stay long either, Gustaaf." "It''s okay, I just need someone to convince my mother." Gustaaf nodded his head. "Alright, let''s go." Lucena walked to the temple with Gustaaf following close behind. 20 minutes passed and the two of them finally arrived at the Temple outside Orrinshire, this Temple was where people used to worship the Goddess Floryn the Goddess of Healing, Fertility, Nature and Growth. Goddess Floryn used to be a figure worshipped by the inhabitants of the Western Province of the Eisenblut Empire, but since the new Religion came from the Desert in the East, the Gods and Goddesses of Jerdin Celeste began to be forgotten by the people, even Orrinshire which used to be the center of worship of Goddess Floryn in the Western Province of the Eisenblut Empire has also abandoned the teaching and chose the Church of Sol. The condition of the Temple was very poor, it could be seen that it had been abandoned for many years. Gustaaf saw some attempted repairs to the Temple, but it didn''t help. He said. "Are you trying to repair this Temple? Alone?" "Yes, I am trying to show my dedication to the Goddess Floryn, because of her I can use the power of healing. Yes, even if I can''t fix all of this in the end." Lucena laughed in embarrassment. "This Lucy... You can ask me and my father for help in fixing this place... This place... I''m guessing it can only last until at least the beginning of Endember, I''m sorry Lucy." Gustaaf said badly. Lucena smiled sadly. "It''s okay Gustaaf, I understand... Oh yes! You said you''re going to be traveling at the end of the month, right?" "Hahaha Yes, I''m going to pursue my dream of becoming an adventurer!" Gustaaf said excitedly. "You seem very happy." Lucena said with a sweet laugh. "Of course Lucy, this is my childhood dream, you should know." Gustaaf said as he clenched his fists and looked up at the sky. "Yes, every day you keep saying it until I memorize what you''re going to say and the basic knowledge of Adventurers, after all, isn''t the Adventurer''s Guild going to open a branch in Orrinshire? Why bother leaving the city?" Lucena asked curiously. "Ah those rumors, according to the information I heard while eavesdropping on the conversations of some merchants and travelers, they say the Adventurer''s Guild will only open next year, probably during the month of Gustavary... You know I can''t wait that long, Lucy." Gustaaf said with a wry smile. "Is that so? Alright, but watch out you leave without telling me, I''ll kick your ass." Lucena said, pinching Gustaaf''s arm. "Ouch! That pinch hurts!" Gustaaf winced in pain. "You''re going to be an Adventurer, you have to get used to pain." Lucena said as she poked Gustaaf in the left ribs. "Hey stop it!" Lucena stopped and walked over to the Altar at the Temple of the Goddess Floryn. Gustaaf looked on from a distance while holding his ribs that had been punched by Lucena. Lucena then knelt before the statue of the Goddess Floryn which was already covered in moss and out of shape, but its humanoid form could still be clearly seen. A few minutes passed before Lucena stood back up, wiping the tears from her eyes before walking back to the waiting Gustaaf. "Sorry it took so long." Lucena said briefly. "It''s okay, I know this is important to you, just like I want to be an Adventurer. Shall we?" Gustaaf held out his hand. Lucena smiled at that and took Gustaaf''s hand, they then walked together to the place where Gustaaf used to train against several types of monsters that roamed. The end of the month came very quickly, coinciding with the day of Gustaaf''s departure to the Western Province Capital, Orrinshire City held a massive festival to commemorate the birthday of their beloved city. Hundreds of merchants both from outside and local merchants opened their wares in almost all places, but the majority were centered in the town square, near the Governor''s Mansion. Lucena, who was wearing a long white dress with a brown apron, was seen carrying a tray with a pile of bread, she smiled at the few adventurers in the town square and said. "Good afternoon, adventurers! May I offer you some bread?" One of the adventurers who was a woman in a cloak replied. "Oh of course, how much is one slice?" "Oh no, it''s free, the owner of this bakery shop always gives away their bread for free during this festival." Lucena said. "Then I''ll take six." Said the female adventurer in the cloak. Lucena then put six slices of bread into a brown paper bag and gave it to the adventuress. Before the woman left, Lucena called out to her. "Uhm, Miss Adventurer? Can I ask you a few questions?" Lucena asked embarrassedly. "Oh? Of course! But don''t call me Miss Adventurer, just call me Delilah." Said the female adventurer named Delilah. "Then, Delilah, I''d like to ask you about... How high is the probability of an Adventurer dying on their first mission?" Lucena asked seriously. "Such things are relative, Miss, but all the adventurers I know have a good start, because our average mission is collecting herbs for medicine or fighting low-class monsters." Delilah replied. "I see... Ah! I''m sorry, my name is Lucena!" Lucena blushed. "Hahaha it''s okay, I was also wrong not to ask your name. So, any more questions?" Delilah smiled gently. "What are the requirements to be an Adventurer? Lately I''ve become a little interested in the world of Adventurers." Lucena said with an embarrassed laugh. "You''re interested in becoming an Adventurer too? Hey, that''s a pretty good but dangerous thing, Miss Lucena, especially since you''re a girl." Delilah frowned slightly. "But you became an Adventurer and you are a girl." Lucena also looked a little annoyed and insulted at that. "Not to insult Miss Lucena, indeed the status of women has been higher than in recent decades, but still discrimination against women in the Adventurer''s Guild often occurs, I''m lucky to have a Party like them who accepts me regardless of gender." Delilah said while gesturing to her friends who were eating Orrinshire specialties. "I see... But I still want to be an adventurer, I''ve always wanted to go exploring outside of this city. It''s not that I don''t like this city, it''s just that I''ve lived here for more than 18 years, boredom and saturation must have arisen, you should know, Miss Delilah." Lucena said seriously. Delilah gave a small hum. "That''s right... Well, if you really want to become an Adventurer, I''ll tell you some of the most important requirements to apply. First of all, you must be good at Reading and Writing." "Reading and Writing? I can do that, it just so happens that I went to school for only two years, hehehe..." Lucena smiled embarrassedly. "Secondly, you must have special skills such as fighting, understanding basic things about Medical Science and magic power. The last one is optional, like one of my party members who doesn''t have much magic power, but he outsmarts it with his extraordinary physical strength." Delilah said pointing to her friend who was quite large and wrapped in armor. "I see, is there anything else?" Lucena asked after thinking about what Delilah had said. "I think that''s all, the Guild is always flexible in their recruitment anyway and the entrance exam changes all the time, it''s done so that Adventurers can adapt to various unpredictable situations." Delilah said. "I see... Thank you for the information, Miss Delilah! Enjoy the Festival!" Lucena said excitedly while bowing her body. "You''re welcome, Lucena.... See you in the wild." Delilah left while waving her hand to Lucena. Lucena waved back before letting out a long sigh, she then walked back to Gustaaf''s parents'' bakery. There, Gustaaf''s mother was arranging the chairs. "Ms. Eva, come let me help you." Lucena said, rushing over to Gustaaf''s mother. "Ah Lucy, it''s okay son, let me help you... You''re an adult, you shouldn''t be here to help, but looking for a partner out there." Mrs. Eva said while holding both of Lucena''s hands. "But Ms. Eva... I want to help, and with Gustaaf leaving, who else is going to help you?" Lucena had a sad face. Mrs. Evan hugged Lucena gently. "We''ll miss him, Lucy, but this is the cycle of life... We won''t always be together, but honestly I will miss Gustaaf a lot, your mom is lucky to have you Lucy." "Hehehe... By the way, where is Gustaaf? He didn''t leave without telling me, did he? I''m really going to beat him up." Said Lucena who let go of Mrs. Eva''s hug and snapped her fingers, ready to hit someone. "Hehehe of course not Lucy, he''s too cowardly for that... He''s currently getting a blessing from Sol Church, he should be home soon." Just as Ms. Eva said that, Gustaaf walked in with his father, Mr. Eric. "Lucy?! Why are you here?" Gustaaf looked shocked. "Making sure you didn''t leave without telling me, silly. So how did you prepare?" Lucena asked, crossing her arms. Gustaaf sighed before smiling. "Everything is ready, I just need to leave in the afternoon." "Why not wait until morning, Gustaaf? Isn''t it safer to leave in the morning?" Lucena asked in surprise. Mr. Eric, Gustaaf''s father then spoke up. "He''ll be riding Governor Wilson''s car, it just so happens that his son and daughter are going to the Academy in the capital too, so he suggested that Gustaaf take a ride with them." Lucena then gave Gustaaf a slightly annoyed look. "You''re going to take the car before me? I''m jealous, Gustaaf." "Hey! This is the Governor offering it to me and Dad, how could we refuse?!" Gustaaf looked a little reluctant. "Hmph." Lucena puffed out her cheeks, still upset. Mr. Eric and Mrs. Eva just laughed at the dynamic between their son and their best friend''s daughter. Mrs. Eva then tapped Lucena on the shoulder. "Lucy, here''s your pay today, you can go home early today." "How come Ms. Eva, it''s only three in the afternoon?" Lucena looked surprised. "Never mind, go have fun, come to the Governor''s Mansion at four in the afternoon for Gustaaf''s departure." Mrs. Eva said gently. "Alright... See you later, Ms. Eva, Mr. Eric and Gustaaf!" Lucena walked out of the shop. She decided to go to the bar where she worked to kill some time. TBC. Chapter 1 Orrinshire shone in splendor that night, illuminated by thousands of lanterns hanging from every corner of the city. Folk music echoed, a low rumble of laughter and singing filling the air. Lucena smiled, clutching a tray of beer to her chest as she danced through the crowd. Her face radiated joy, even though her footsteps were beginning to feel heavy after hours of walking around. "Lucy! More beer here!" "No! Here first, Lucy!" The drunken exclamations of the locals made Lucena chuckle, even as fatigue began to settle on her body. This party was much bigger than she had imagined. This year, the harvest festival had become an event that drew migrants from surrounding villages, making Orrinshire the center of attention. She thought, how wonderful it would be to live in such a peaceful place. But her happiness was short-lived. When Lucena was about to take an extra beer, her hair stood on end for no reason. Like a cold wind sneaking in, a bad feeling crept into her heart. And then- BOOM! The sound of an explosion shook Orrinshire. The ground shook violently, making the lanterns fall and break. Screams echoed, replacing the laughter that had previously warmed the atmosphere. Lucena fell, her tray thrown, the beer she was carrying soaking the ground. She looked up at the sky, seeing black smoke rising from the city gates. "What''s going on?! An attack? But who?! Where are the Imperial soldiers?" he thought in confusion. People started running around, bumping into each other without a care in the world. In the chaos, some accidentally stepped on Lucena. She groaned in pain, her body trembling, but she forced herself to crawl into a narrow alley. Her breath hitched as she reached the cold stone wall. A trembling hand held her head, and she was surprised to find blood flowing from her temple. "Calm down, Lucy. You can handle this," she whispered to herself. With bated breath, Lucena closed her eyes and invoked the blessings of Goddess Floryn. Soft light enveloped her body, the wound on her head slowly closed. But she knew this was only temporary. She must remain vigilant. Peeking out from behind the alley, the scene on the street made her stomach turn. The food that had been part of the feast was now scattered, mixed with blood. Then she saw them: a group of heavily armed Goblins, their bodies clad in leather armor, dragging human corpses like trophies of war. Lucena froze, her eyes widening. The Imperial Army lost? They were valiant guards, protectors of Orrinshire. How could they be destroyed by Goblins? One of the Goblins caught Lucena''s eye. It pointed and shouted in a harsh language that sounded like an animal growl. In an instant, the other five Goblins also looked at Lucena and started chasing her. A panicked Lucena ran away, her breathing ragged. She ran as far as she could, but her small steps couldn''t keep up with the speed of the more agile Goblins. Finally, she tripped and fell hard onto the rocky ground. The Goblins'' laughter sounded like sharp scorn in her ears. They approached, a small circle forming around her. Lucena, with a trembling body, saw a short sword lying not far from her hand. She reached for it, gripping it tightly. "I won''t give up so easily," she muttered, staring intently at the Goblins. Instead of being scared, the Goblins laughed even harder. One of them, who looked like the leader, came forward swinging his small axe casually. But Lucena knew one thing: she might not be a warrior, but she would not die without a fight. With the last bit of courage she had, she swung the short sword at her first enemy. Lucena held the short sword with both trembling hands. Cold sweat ran down her temples, mixing with the blood still dripping from the small wound on her head. She knew this was not a fight she could win. He was just a barmaid, not a soldier, not an adventurer. His hands even felt heavy just holding the sword. The six Goblins surrounded him, moving slowly like a predator playing with its prey. Their laughter was loud and harsh, their language sounding like mumbling that Lucena did not understand. One of the Goblins, apparently the leader, advanced closer, swinging a small rusty sword in a casual motion. "I''m not afraid." Lucena whispered to herself, though her voice trembled. But she knew it was a lie. Her whole body shivered, and her legs felt weak. The Goblin leader stopped a few steps in front of her, smiled smugly, and let out a growling sound that seemed like a taunt. He signaled his subordinates to retreat, as if to give Lucena a "chance" to attack him first. Reluctantly, Lucena stepped forward and swung her sword with what little force she had. Her slash missed, even before it reached the Goblin''s skin. She was too slow and untrained. The Goblins'' laughter broke out again, louder this time. The Goblin parried the next sword swing with ease, spinning his small sword to stop Lucena''s attack. It then pushed Lucena roughly until she fell to the ground. "Stop playing with me!" Lucena shouted in desperation, but her voice sounded more like a plea. Another goblin came forward, kicking the short sword out of Lucena''s hand. The sword was flung away, leaving her unprotected. One of the Goblins approached, swinging its blunt weapon, hitting Lucena hard in the shoulder until she winced in pain. Lucena tried to crawl away, but one of the Goblins stomped hard on her back, knocking her back to the ground. She twisted her body, kicking weakly, but the Goblins only laughed at her futile efforts. One after another, the Goblins began to whip him with the blunt side of their swords. The slashes were not deep, but enough to leave wounds that made Lucena wince and scream. Her clothes were torn in several places, and blood began to flow from small wounds on her arms. "Goddess Floryn... help me." Lucena whispered softly, barely audible amidst the Goblins'' jeers. She felt her body weaken, her every movement slow, and consciousness begin to fade. When one of the Goblins raised his weapon, seemingly ready to end the game, suddenly a loud voice broke the air. "Hey, you lowly creature! Fight someone who''s worth it!" A figure emerged from the shadows of the alley, her braided hair waving as she jumped into the middle of the Goblins. A woman in a simple leather outfit, carrying a long sword that looked sharp and was wielded confidently. "Delilah..." Lucena whispered, almost in disbelief. She recognized the woman, an adventurer who had stopped by her bar just moments ago. Lucena had even given her a free loaf of bread, not expecting her simple gesture to be reciprocated under these circumstances. "Stay away from her." Delilah said in a cold voice, her gaze fixed on the Goblins. The Goblins stopped laughing, seemingly realizing the real threat before them. Delilah wasted no time. She moved quickly, slashing at one Goblin that was too slow to dodge. Her body moved like the wind, each strike accurate and deadly. The six Goblins tried to fight back, but they didn''t stand a chance against someone so experienced. In no time, all the Goblins were lying lifeless on the ground. Delilah immediately knelt beside Lucena, examining her wounds. "You''re hurt badly." She said, her tone softening. She took out a cloth from her bag, bandaging Lucena''s wounds as best she could. Lucena smiled weakly, tears running down her cheeks. "Thank you..." She whispered, before collapsing from exhaustion and pain. Delilah let out a long breath, then carefully lifted Lucena''s body. "You were brave, Lucy." She said softly, even though she knew the woman couldn''t hear her. "But now, let someone else do the fighting." The Orrinshire sky was red with smoke and fire, human screams mixed with the thunderous steps of wild creatures in the distance. Delilah carried Lucena''s frail body on her back. Her breathing was heavy, but she kept walking relentlessly towards the city center, the last place that was still safe. "Don''t die, Lucy." She murmured softly. "You''ve lost too much blood. Just hold on a little longer." Orrinshire''s city center had now turned into a makeshift fortress. High walls of logs were hastily erected, reinforced with makeshift ropes and nails. The remaining city guards stood guard on top of the wall with arrows ready to fire, while a few Imperial soldiers, wounded but still able to stand, led the defense effort. On the other side, adventurers from the Guild worked together, some helping to contain the Goblin horde outside, while others took care of the wounded refugees. You might be reading a stolen copy. Visit Royal Road for the authentic version. Delilah walked through the wooden gate that had just been opened by a guard. "Open the way! He needs treatment!" She shouted, and the two soldiers standing guard there immediately helped lead her to the medical tent in the center of the fort. Inside the medical tent, the stench of blood mixed with the scent of herbal medicine. The healers were busy treating dozens of wounded people, mostly civilians who had managed to escape. Delilah carefully placed Lucena on one of the empty mats. "She fainted." She said to an old healer who quickly approached. "Her wounds aren''t deep, but she''s lost a lot of blood. Take care of her." The healer nodded, then began an examination of Lucena''s body. His old hands moved skillfully, cleaning the dirty wounds, applying ointment, and wrapping her in a clean cloth. "She''s lucky to be alive." The healer muttered as he continued his work. Delilah sat by the mat, letting out a long sigh. Her back was sore, and her mind was tired, but she couldn''t rest for too long. "How long can we last?" She asked a guard standing by the tent door. The guard shook his head slowly. "No idea. Those goblins are getting more and more numerous. But as long as this wall stands, we have a chance. Reinforcements will also arrive soon." Delilah looked at Lucena, who was now lying quietly with her breathing slowly stabilizing. There was a sense of relief that the young woman was safe, at least for now. However, outside the walls, the sounds of the wild creatures continued to echo, reminding them all that the danger was not over. Orrinshire might survive tonight, but would they make it through tomorrow? Delilah gripped the hilt of her sword tightly, preparing herself for the next battle. The dark smoke-filled sky of Orrinshire was suddenly echoed by a heart-stirring sound. From afar, a siren screech sliced through the air. Everyone-guards, soldiers, adventurers, even refugees-turned their heads toward the sound. Delilah, who was standing near the mat where Lucena was lying, looked out of the tent with her eyebrows raised in hope. From behind the thick clouds came the silhouettes of planes with their signature broken wings, darting gracefully yet menacingly. These were the hatchling bombers of the Eisenblut Imperial Air Force, the Sturmschwinge. The sirens they carried were not just tools of war; they were symbols of terror designed to break the enemy''s morale, and this time, the monsters outside Orrinshire were the target. Suddenly, a loud explosion shook the ground. The first bomb fell right in the middle of the Orc and Goblin hordes, devastating them in an instant. Flames raged high, and the surrounding land turned into a crater. The next explosion followed, ravaging the enemy ranks that had once seemed unstoppable. The horde of monsters that had previously moved with blind faith was now in chaos. Some tried to flee, while others just stood rooted, not knowing what to do. Sirens continued to howl, making them panic and lose focus. Outside the walls of Orrinshire, the roar of engines grew closer. Out of the fog, a line of tanks stood proudly. These tanks had names: Donnerschlag Mk.IV, a symbol of the splendor of the Eisenblut Empire''s war technology. Beside them, half-tracks filled with Imperial infantry sped by at high speed, while the soldiers inside aimed machine guns at the hordes of monsters. "There you go..." Delilah muttered with a faint smile. She knew that Orrinshire now had a real hope of survival. The tanks stopped at strategic positions, their barrels spinning with precision towards the remaining Orcs. Explosion after explosion echoed out, destroying the remaining enemies mercilessly. The Imperial infantry dismounted from the halftrack, spreading out in disciplined formation, their machine guns hurling bullets like metal rain. From the wooden fortress wall, one of the young Adventurers called out. "They''re coming! We''re safe!" Under the protection of the wall, Delilah approached one of the guards who seemed transfixed by the incredible sight. "We must open the gate and let them in." She said firmly. The guard nodded quickly and gave the signal. The great wooden gates of Orrinshire began to open slowly, wide enough to let the Imperial reinforcements in. Tanks and half-tracks rolled in, followed by the infantry. An officer in a neat blue-black uniform jumped down from the first halftrack, saluting sternly. "By order of the Emperor, we come to protect the Empire''s loyal subjects. Orrinshire will survive!" He said loudly, his voice full of conviction. Delilah smiled slightly. "You''re just in time." She said. She looked at Lucena who was still lying in the infirmary tent, then back at the officer. "We''ll survive the night." Now Orrinshire had more than just its wooden walls and the courage of its people. With the power of the Eisenblut Empire on their side, the small town had a great chance of overcoming the coming threat. Airplane sirens continued to howl in the distance, a triumphant melody that marked the end of this first attack. The morning sky in Orrinshire had returned to calm, though the air was still filled with the metallic scent of blood and black smoke from the corpses of monsters burned outside the walls. The flames from the Imperial army''s flame throwers created a somber shadow dance along the land that had previously been the battlefield. Hundreds of dead monsters were now ashes, marking the end of the threat that nearly destroyed this small town. Delilah sat on a small wooden bench inside the maintenance tent. Beside her, Lucena still lay, her breathing slow and regular despite her pale face. Delilah looked at the young girl, then lowered her head while supporting her chin with her hand. Her heart felt heavy, heavier than usual after the battle was over. She spoke, more to herself than anyone around her. "Look at this... All the blood and sweat we shed over the years, all the risks we took, for what? Now we are nothing more than shadows of the past. Adventurers like me are irrelevant." Delilah''s voice sounded bitter. Her eyes glanced outside the tent, looking at the Imperial troops who were tidying up their equipment with discipline. "Look at them. Trained, organized, loyal. They don''t hesitate, they don''t fear. And their weapons... they can kill a horde of Goblins without even touching their swords. While I... I almost lost my life just to save a young girl." He let out a long sigh. "What''s the point of being adventurers? We''re just expendable tools. Soon, no one will need us anymore. No one will call us heroes." Lucena, who had been asleep, began to stir slowly. Her brown eyes opened weakly, and she looked up at Delilah. Her voice was hoarse, but she managed to whisper. "You''re wrong, Delilah." Delilah turned her head, surprised to find Lucena awake. "Lucy? Are you awake? How are you?" "I''m... still a little dizzy." Lucena replied quietly, then smiled slightly. "But I heard everything you said. You''re being too hard on yourself." Delilah snorted. "I''m just telling the truth. I know the reality of what this world is like now. We, adventurers, are just a shadow of the past. We''re not needed anymore." Lucena tried to sit up, though her body still felt weak. "No, Delilah. You''re wrong. The world may change, technology may advance, but that doesn''t mean you''re not important. You saved me. You fought those Goblins, even though you knew you might lose. You gave hope to someone you didn''t even know. That''s more than what the Imperial troops with all their strange weapons could have done." Delilah paused, looking at Lucena with a doubtful expression. Lucena continued, her voice now stronger. "Maybe the role of the adventurer is changing. Maybe you''re no longer on the front lines like you used to be. But as long as there are people like me-people who need you, people who can''t fight-you''ll always have a place. You are more than a weapon, Delilah. You are a symbol of courage and hope." Lucena''s words pierced Delilah''s heart. For the first time in a long time, she felt something warm inside her chest. She sighed, then smiled slightly. "You know, Lucy... maybe you''re right. I was too hard on myself. But I don''t know if the world will see it the same way." Lucena smiled weakly. "The world always needs heroes, Delilah. Sometimes, they just don''t know how to express it." Delilah nodded slowly, her heart a little lighter. She looked at Lucena, who despite her weakness, still radiated spirit. Outside the tent, the last gunshot echoed, marking the end of a long and bloody night. The world may have changed, but Delilah knew that as long as she could help, she still had a place in it. .. ... The next morning, the warm sun began to rise over Orrinshire, chasing away the dark shadows of last night''s battle. Although the situation in the city began to stabilize, the damage and trauma were still felt everywhere. Lucena, although her body was still weak and some of her wounds had not fully healed, decided to search for her parents whom she had not found since the attack. Delilah, who now had no duties as the Imperial troops had taken over the security of the city, volunteered to accompany Lucena. With her sword hanging from her waist and a small backpack on her back, Delilah walked beside Lucena who looked nervous but excited. "Are you sure they went out of town?" Delilah asked as she looked at the debris-strewn street. Lucena nodded. "My father works in the mines not far from here. Usually, my mom visits him every few days to bring him supplies. If they''re not in town, they''re probably hiding there." They traveled along a path littered with the remnants of destruction. Some residents were seen clearing the debris, while Imperial soldiers stood guard at various corners to make sure there were no further threats. Lucena greeted a few people she knew, hoping they had news of her parents, but most could only shake their heads or offer prayers. Delilah, who walked quietly at Lucena''s side, occasionally scanned the surroundings with a sharp gaze. "I know you''re worried, but don''t worry too much. If they''re in the mines, they''re most likely safe. Last night''s monster attack was more focused on the city." "I hope so." Lucena replied, though her voice remained filled with anxiety. As they approached the mine on the outskirts of Orrinshire, Lucena began to jog, her fatigue temporarily forgotten by hope. The mine was hidden behind a small hill, with the entrance sheltered by large boulders. When they arrived, Lucena called out in a hopeful voice. "Dad! Mom! It''s me, Lucena!" There was silence for a moment, only the sound of the wind blowing through the trees. Lucena felt her chest begin to tighten with worry. Soon, however, a heavy, familiar voice broke the silence. "Lucena, it''s you, kid!" From behind the shadow of the mine, a middle-aged man with greying hair appeared. His face was full of dust, but his eyes radiated happiness when he saw Lucena. It was her father. "Dad!" Lucena immediately ran over and hugged the man tightly. Happy tears broke out, the relief that flooded her heart could not be hidden. Behind her father, a woman in a tattered apron appeared. It was her mother. She was carrying a lunch basket that was almost empty. When she saw Lucena, she covered her mouth with her hand, tears immediately flowing. "Lucena! Thank goodness you''re safe!" Her mother joined in their embrace, holding her daughter tightly. Delilah, who watched the reunion from a distance, just stood with her hands on her waist, a small smile etched on her face. "Thankfully, they''re fine." She muttered to herself. After a while, Lucena finally introduced Delilah to her parents. "This is Delilah. She saved me when the attack happened." Lucena''s father extended a warm hand. "Thank you, Miss Delilah. We don''t know how to repay you for what you''ve done for our daughter." Delilah just shrugged casually. "That''s my duty... even though I''m just a useless adventurer now." She said, half-joking. Her mother smiled. "You saved our daughter. How could that not mean anything?" Delilah didn''t answer, but her smile grew wider. She felt a little more appreciated than before. After making sure it was safe, they all returned to the city together. Lucena, who now felt that a heavy burden on her heart had been lifted, walked lighter. Although Orrinshire was still recovering, this small happiness was a sign that life, although difficult, could still continue. The sun was already high when Lucena and her family finally returned to Orrinshire, which was slowly recovering from the devastation. The townspeople were busy repairing their destroyed homes, while Imperial soldiers kept watch at various corners, making sure there were no further threats. Lucena, though tired, was relieved to have found her parents safe. However, there was one thought that still haunted her: her childhood friend, Gustaaf. After saying goodbye to her mother and father, who were now helping others in the shelter, Lucena decided to find out how Gustaaf was doing. She remembers that the last time she saw him, he was preparing to leave for the capital to pursue his dream of becoming a great adventurer. But yesterday''s attack may have changed everything. Lucena walked through the streets of the city that were still full of debris. Every now and then she would ask the people she met, hoping to hear some good news about Gustaaf. However, most people just shook their heads or looked at her with a sad expression. As Lucena walked further into the more devastated parts of the city, she saw two familiar figures sitting in front of a nearly collapsed house. Eva and Eric, Gustaaf''s parents, were crying silently. Eva hugged Eric tightly, while he bowed his head, his face full of sadness. Lucena felt her heart sink. Cautiously, she approached them. "Aunt Eva? Uncle Eric? What happened?" She asked, her voice trembling. Eva looked up with wet, puffy eyes. She opened her mouth to speak, but no sound came out. Instead, she pointed to a cloth lying on the ground, not far from where they were sitting. Lucena followed the direction of Eva''s finger, and her eyes fell on the cloth, which had turned dark red with blood. Her legs felt weak. She knew what was underneath the cloth, but her heart refused to accept the reality. With trembling steps, she approached the cloth. Eric finally spoke up, his voice heavy and broken. "Gustaaf... he tried to protect the citizens during the attack yesterday. He fought the Goblins and Orcs alone to give the others time to escape." Eva cried harder, clasping Eric''s hand tightly. "He always said he wanted to be a hero, wanted to protect the people he cared about. But... he was too young... too young to leave..." Lucena knelt beside the cloth, her hands trembling as she touched the edge. Slowly, she pulled the cloth aside, revealing Gustaaf''s pale face. The face that was once full of passion and dreams was now lifeless. The wounds on his body told of the battles he had fought, of the courage that had led to his tragic end. Tears welled up in Lucena''s eyes. She was speechless, just looking at the face of her friend who was now gone. She remembered the times they played together as children, when Gustaaf spoke passionately about his dreams of becoming an adventurer who would bring pride to Orrinshire. "Why...?" She whispered softly. "Why him?" Eva hugged Eric tighter, her voice sounding weak. "He saved a lot of people, Lucy. He did what he believed was right. But that doesn''t take away this pain..." Delilah, who was not far away, stood in silence. She watched everything with a somber gaze, understanding the pain not only Gustaaf''s family, but Lucena''s as well. Slowly, she approached Lucena, placing a hand on her shoulder. "He''s a hero, Lucy." Delilah said softly. "But I know that won''t lessen your loss." Lucena nodded slowly, her hands clenched on the cloth that now covered Gustaaf''s body. "He was a hero." She said, her voice full of pain. "But I wish he were still here..." That day, Lucena learned that courage and sacrifice often come at an unimaginable price. Gustaaf may be gone, but his spirit and dreams will live on in the memories of all those he saved. TBC. Chapter 2 Two days after the tragic events that rocked Orrinshire, the town is still shrouded in a haze of grief. Although some residents have begun to pick up the pieces of their lives, the scars left by the attack are still felt in every step and word. To honor the fallen, a mass funeral ceremony was held outside the city. In a large field now dotted with new mounds of earth, mass graves had been dug to hold the bodies of countless citizens, Imperial soldiers, and adventurers who had given their lives for Orrinshire. The sky that day was gray, as if mourning with those left behind. The surviving residents, including Imperial soldiers and adventurers, gathered around the mass graves. Every face radiated sadness, but also deep respect. In the center of the crowd, a priest from the Church of Sol stood solemnly, wearing a white robe that was now stained with the dust of travel. He, Reverend Dorian, was a revered religious figure in Orrinshire and beyond. Today, however, he would be doing something different. Reverend Dorian stepped forward to a simple podium made of scrap wood. He raised his hand, calling for the attention of everyone present. His voice was booming, yet soft, breaking the eerie silence. "My brothers and sisters." He said. "We gather today not only to mourn our loss, but also to celebrate the infinite courage, sacrifice, and love of those who have gone before us. They are Orrinshire''s finest sons and daughters, who have shown that hope and unity can always fight the darkness." He paused for a moment, taking a deep breath, before continuing. "However, this day does not just belong to the Church of Sol. Today, we come together as a people who strengthen each other, no matter what our beliefs. For grief is a universal language that knows no boundaries of faith or belief." The audience looked both surprised and touched. Pastor Dorian then called out to someone from the crowd: Lucena. Hesitantly, Lucena stepped forward, her face still holding a deep sadness. "Lucena." Dorian said in a warm voice. "You are the only one among us who still keeps faith in the Goddess Floryn, the Goddess of Life and Fertility. We ask for your help to lead the prayers for those who have gone, that they may be received in peace by Goddess Floryn." Lucena was silent for a moment. She felt heavy stepping forward, remembering the grief she had just experienced with the loss of Gustaaf. However, the gaze of the mourners gave her courage. She nodded slowly and took her place next to Pastor Dorian. In her soft yet firm voice, Lucena began to offer prayers to Goddess Floryn. Her prayer was simple, but every word she spoke was sincere, sinking into the hearts of the audience. "Goddess Floryn, who gives life to this earth, we ask you to accept those who have gone. Those who have given their all to protect us. May their souls return to your realm of peace, and may we who are left behind continue to be blessed with the strength to continue their fight..." As Lucena spoke, many of the citizens were comforted. Even Imperial soldiers who usually didn''t care much about religious matters were seen bowing their heads in prayer. After Lucena finished, Reverend Dorian proceeded with the typical ritual of the Church of Sol, burning holy incense and offering prayers for the departed souls. He also led the people to sprinkle flowers on the mound of earth, a final symbol of respect for those who have fallen. When the ceremony was over, the atmosphere around the mass grave felt a little lighter, though the sorrow remained. Pastor Dorian tapped Lucena gently on the shoulder. "You have shown us that despite our different beliefs, we can still strengthen each other. Thank you, Lucena." Lucena just smiled, though her heart was still heavy. She felt that her participation in the ceremony, though simple, had given her some peace. She knew life had to go on, but the memories of those who had gone would never fade. As the weeks passed, Orrinshire began to pulse with life again, although the wounds left by the attack were still fresh in the hearts of its residents. The streets of the town, once littered with debris, are now clean, though traces of the battle are still visible in some corners. Lucena returned to work at the bar where she made her living, serving beer and food to customers who tried to chase away the grief with fake laughter and old stories. For Lucena, however, the days felt like an endlessly recurring dream. Every step she took, every laugh she heard, was bland and empty. She worked as usual, serving customers, smiling, and dancing a little to the music, but her mind drifted elsewhere. In between her routines, Lucena''s mind was filled with images of the past: Gustaaf''s smiling, hopeful face as he spoke of his dreams of becoming a great adventurer; Delilah''s courage in facing danger to save him. They, who had taken risks and given everything for something bigger than themselves, had changed the way Lucena viewed her life. That night, after the last customer had left the bar and she had finished cleaning up the messy tables, Lucena sat alone in the corner. The dim oil lamps cast shadows on the wooden walls, creating a somber yet intimate atmosphere. She rested her chin on her hand, staring blankly at the glass of beer she had yet to touch. "Is this my life?" He muttered quietly to himself. "Working, getting married, having children... and then growing old without ever knowing what it''s like to really live?" Lucena remembered Gustaaf''s sacrifice, risking his life to protect those he loved. She thought of Delilah who bravely braved uncertainty and danger to save the lives of others. Both of these people, in their own way, had lived meaningful lives. They had fought for something greater than comfort or routine. Yet, she was just a barmaid hiding behind her routine, trying to avoid the dangerous outside world. Lucena straightened her back and closed her eyes. ''What am I looking for in this life?'' She thought. Like a cold night breeze, a new feeling slipped into her heart: the desire to break out of her monotonous life, to find a greater purpose. Maybe he would never be like Gustaaf or Delilah, but he knew he couldn''t keep living life the same way. The decision, though still vague, began to take shape in her mind. That night, for the first time in a long time, Lucena felt a spark of passion that she had almost forgotten. A small calling in her soul, asking her to seek something more than routine. When dawn broke the next day, Lucena saw Orrinshire in a different light. This peaceful little town was not a prison, but a starting place where she could begin anew. She didn''t know how, but she was determined to find out. Gustaaf may be gone, but his spirit lives on in Lucena''s heart, encouraging her to live life with courage and purpose. And, who knows? Maybe she would find her own adventure. That morning, sunlight filtered through the cracks in the wooden windows of Lucena''s small family home. The smell of toast and herbal tea filled the air, creating a warm and familiar atmosphere. However, Lucena''s heart was pounding. She had decided to talk to her parents about her resolve, something she had been thinking about for days. At the dining table, her mother, Margaret, was gently spreading butter on bread for breakfast, while her father, Alaric, was enjoying hot tea while reading an old newspaper. Lucena sat in the chair opposite, looking at them quizzically for a moment before finally mustering the courage. "Mom, Dad." Lucena''s voice was low but firm, "I want to talk about something important." Margaret turned her head, smiling warmly. "Of course, dear. What is it?" Lucena took a deep breath, her hands gripping the teacup in front of her tightly. "I want to be an adventurer. I want to be a hero to everyone." Silence fell over the room for a moment. Margaret placed the bread on her plate, her expression turning worried. "Lucena... it''s not a joke. It''s a dangerous world out there. You know what happened during the attack a few weeks ago. You almost..." Her voice trailed off, her eyes starting to get wet. "Mom." Lucena interrupted gently, but her tone was determined. "I know it''s dangerous. I know my life won''t be easy if I choose this path. But this is the only thing that makes me feel truly alive." Alaric raised an eyebrow, looking at his daughter with a thoughtful gaze. "Why, Lucy? What makes you want to take a risk like this?" Lucena bowed her head for a moment, trying to contain her emotions. "Gustaaf." She answered softly. "He gave everything to protect the people he loved. And Delilah... she saved me without hesitation. They showed me that there''s more to life than working, getting married, and living comfortably. I want to do something meaningful, Father. I want to etch my name in everyone''s hearts, just like they did." Margaret shook her head, tears streaming down her cheeks. "Lucena, you are our only daughter. I can''t imagine losing you. What if something happened to you? What if you..." "Mom." Lucena cut in, looking into her mother''s eyes with a loving yet determined gaze. "This is the first time I''ve asked you for something. I know you''re worried. I know I may not come back rich, or have a mansion, or live a comfortable life. But I will be happy, Mother. I will feel alive."Unauthorized duplication: this tale has been taken without consent. Report sightings. Alaric smiled slightly, placing his newspaper on the table. "Margaret, she is our daughter. But she is also a grown woman now. If this is what makes her happy, who are we to stop her?" Margaret turned to her husband, her eyes full of tears. "Do you agree with her, Alaric? You know how dangerous this is!" "Yes, I agree." Alaric replied calmly. "I''m scared too, Margaret. But I see the determination in Lucena''s eyes. That is something we cannot ignore. We must believe in her, just as we believed in ourselves when we started our lives together." Margaret sobbed, covering her face with her hands. Lucena stood up, walked to her mother''s side, and hugged her tightly. "Mom, I promise I''ll be careful. I won''t make this decision without thinking. But please, let me try. I want to make you proud." Margaret nodded slowly, still sobbing. "If this is really what you want, Lucy... I won''t stop you. But please... take care of yourself. Don''t make Mommy regret it." Lucena smiled with relief, hugging her mother tighter. "Thank you, mom. I promise." Alaric stood up, patting Lucena proudly on the shoulder. "You have a long road ahead of you, Lucy. But we will always support you. Go, make our family name known, but more importantly... make yourself happy." With her parents'' blessing, Lucena felt a burning passion in her heart. She knew the path she had chosen was full of obstacles, but for the first time in her life, she felt truly free and alive. A few days after receiving her parents'' blessing, Lucena was finally ready to embark on her new journey. She had carefully packed her supplies: enough clothes, a simple meal, and a small book of prayers to Goddess Floryn. The owner of the bar where she worked congratulated her with teary eyes, even presenting her with a modest but meaningful bottle of wine. That morning, with a simple bag over her shoulder, Lucena stood on the side of Orrinshire''s main road, waiting for the merchant carriage that would take her to Glaswald, the capital of the Western Province. The journey to Glaswald was not a short one-two full weeks of traveling through hills, valleys, and small villages. For Lucena, it was the first step towards her big dream. But before the horse-drawn carriage arrived, the roar of an engine caught the attention of those around. A stately-looking, albeit modest, car pulled up in front of Lucena. It was shiny black, with a classic yet elegant design, reminiscent of the vehicles Lucena had only seen in books or heard about from others. From inside the car came a middle-aged man with a friendly, dignified face. He was the Governor of Orrinshire, Lord Theodore Arcland, a man known for his justice and generosity to the people. "Lucena, is it?" He asked with a warm smile. Lucena was slightly surprised and hurriedly saluted. "That''s right, Your Highness. Is there anything I can help you with?" The governor chuckled. "It''s not me who needs help, but perhaps I can help you. I hear you''re going to Glaswald to begin your journey as an adventurer?" Lucena nodded, still confused as to why the Governor knew about her plans. "That''s right, Your Highness. But I''ll only be riding in a merchant stagecoach. I don''t want to inconvenience anyone." The governor waved his hand. "Nonsense. I happen to be going to Glaswald to buy something for my wife. If you don''t mind my traveling indirectly to my destination, I offer you a ride in my car. The trip will be much faster and more comfortable than a horse-drawn carriage." Lucena was silent for a moment, feeling both embarrassed and honored. "Your Highness, I... do not wish to inconvenience..." "It''s not a hassle, young man. Think of it as my small support for the future adventurer from Orrinshire. After all, Glaswald is a large city that can be a challenge in itself. It''s better that you arrive fully energized, not with a body tired from a long journey." Said the Governor, his voice firm yet friendly. Seeing such a sincere offer, Lucena finally nodded. "Then, thank you very much, Your Highness. I really appreciate it." The governor smiled, opening the car door for Lucena politely. "Come on, let''s get going before the sun gets too high." Lucena got into the car, feeling the soft leather seats and the luxurious but not overwhelming atmosphere of the interior. The car rattled quietly as the engine started again, and slowly drove away from Orrinshire. On the way, Lucena couldn''t stop admiring the vehicle. "This car is amazing, Your Majesty. I didn''t even know a vehicle like this could exist in a small place like Orrinshire." The governor laughed. "Ah, this car is special indeed. A gift from an old friend in the Imperial capital. Not as luxurious as what they use there, but enough to make me feel connected to the center of the Empire." During the trip, they talked about many things: life in Orrinshire, the Governor''s plans in Glaswald, and Lucena''s dreams. The Governor even gave Lucena some advice on how to deal with the rigors of the adventurous world. "Lucena, remember." He said as he gazed at the road ahead. "Courage is important, but wisdom is more important. Never hesitate to retreat if things get too dangerous. Your life is worth far more than a title or a reputation." Lucena nodded, taking those words to heart. This trip, though short, had already given her more than she could have imagined-comfort, wisdom, and a new sense of confidence. As the car drove through rocky roads and dense forests, Lucena felt that her first step towards her big dream was beginning in a way she never expected. After several hours of long but comfortable travel, the Governor''s car finally entered Glaswald, the capital of the Western Province. The atmosphere of the city was completely different from what Lucena had seen in Orrinshire. The wide, cobblestone streets, the grand neo-classical buildings with beautiful carvings, and the bustle of the markets and people were far more lively than in her home town. Lucena pressed her face against the car window, marveling at this new sight. Glaswald was a completely different world from Orrinshire, with all its glitter that almost made her feel small and insignificant. The car stopped in front of a large, sturdy building with a wooden sign that read "Glaswald Adventurer''s Guild" in gilded letters. The building was alive, with many people going in and out-some with swords and shields, others with bows and arrows, some even wearing mages'' robes adorned with magical symbols. Governor Theodore got off first, then opened the door for Lucena. "Here we are." He said with a gentle smile. Lucena got out of the car, feeling a little nervous about the crowd around the building. They all looked tough and experienced, a far cry from her who was just a country girl with no combat experience. Before Lucena stepped away, the Governor touched her shoulder gently, making her turn around. "Lucena." He said in a fatherly voice. "You are now in a completely different world. Glaswald is not Orrinshire. It''s more advanced, more bustling, but also far more dangerous. Never let your guard down. The world of adventure may be full of pride and glory, but you must know that danger lurks around every corner." Lucena nodded, trying to absorb every word. "I will be careful, Your Highness. Thank you very much for the ride and the advice." The governor smiled a little, but the look in his eyes showed genuine concern. "Remember, you are a country girl who has never been out of Orrinshire. Do not rush to trust others, especially in a city like Glaswald. Look for people you can truly rely on, and never be shy to ask for help if you need it." Lucena gripped her bag tightly, nodding once more. "I understand, Your Highness. Thank you for everything." The governor stepped back to his car, but before getting in, he added. "And one more thing, Lucena. Don''t ever lose faith in yourself. You started this journey with great determination. Don''t let anyone, or anything, undermine that spirit." Lucena smiled a little, feeling she had gotten the morale boost she needed. "I will not let you down, Your Highness. Thank you." The Governor''s car slowly drove off, leaving Lucena standing in front of the Adventurer''s Guild. She took a deep breath, staring at the large building in front of her with determination. Today was the beginning of a new chapter in her life-a chapter filled with challenges, dangers, and perhaps, triumphs. With determined steps, she entered the doors of the Adventurer''s Guild, ready to face whatever lay ahead. Lucena stepped into the Adventurer''s Guild building with a mixture of nervousness and curiosity. As soon as the heavy oak door closed behind her, her eyes widened in awe. The interior of this building was far beyond anything she had ever seen before, even compared to the Governor''s Mansion where she had worked as a maid a few years ago. The shiny marble floors reflected the sparkling light from the huge crystal chandeliers hanging from the high ceilings. Magnificent paintings adorned the walls, telling stories of great adventurers who had made their mark in history. Large mahogany tables were neatly arranged, surrounded by comfortable-looking leather-covered chairs. On the other side of the room, there was a large mission board, filled with papers that were attached using brass nails. Lucena could hardly believe she was in a place like this. It was like stepping into a whole new world, a world of heroes and legends. She walked carefully to the reception desk in the center of the room. Behind the desk, stood a young woman with cat ears sticking out of her short golden hair. The woman''s bright green eyes looked at Lucena curiously. "Welcome to the Glaswald Adventurer''s Guild." The woman said in a friendly voice, a small smile gracing her face. "How can I help you?" Lucena swallowed, trying to calm her racing heartbeat. "I... would like to register as an adventurer." Lucena said. The cat-eared woman nodded, taking a large book from under the table. "Of course. My name is Felina, the receptionist here. Do you already have combat experience or have you worked as a soldier before?" Lucena shook her head honestly. "No, I don''t have any experience. I''m... I''m completely new. I don''t even know how to use a weapon properly." Felina looked at her for a moment, as if considering something, then smiled slightly. "No problem. All great adventurers start somewhere too, right?" She picked up a form and handed it to Lucena along with a goose quill. "Fill this out, and we''ll process your application right away." Lucena filled out the form carefully, writing down her name, age, and background as honestly as possible. When she was done, Felina examined the form, then noted something in the ledger in front of her. "Alright, Lucena. Since you''re completely new with no experience, you''ll start as a wood-level Adventurer, the lowest rank in the Guild. Here is your wooden plaque." Felina handed over a small plaque made of simple wood, with Lucena''s name engraved on it. "This plaque shows your standing among adventurers. You must carry this with you at all times. If you lose it, you will be fined to replace it." Lucena accepted the plaque with both hands, looking at it with a mixture of pride and humility. "Thank you. I will take good care of this." Felina smiled, then pointed at the large mission board on the wall. "As a novice adventurer, you are only allowed to take on low-level missions. Be sure to read the mission descriptions carefully and don''t try anything too dangerous. Oh, and one more thing-as a beginner, you are advised to join a group until you are more experienced." Lucena nodded. "I understand. Thank you for the advice." Before leaving, Felina added. "Good luck, Lucena. And remember, being an adventurer is a long journey. Never give up." Lucena stepped away from the table, clutching the wooden plaque tightly. In her heart, she felt that this was the first step of a great journey that would change her life. However, she also knew that this path would not be easy. But with her strong determination, she was ready to face whatever challenges awaited. Lucena approached the large mission board that dominated one side of the Adventurer''s Guild room. A variety of papers were pasted there, each containing a description of a mission of varying difficulty. From hunting down ferocious monsters to escorting trade caravans, they all seemed interesting yet daunting to the green Lucena. She read each one carefully, looking for something that suited her meager skills. Finally, her eyes fell on a simple piece of paper that looked different from the rest. MISSION: HERBAL COLLECTION Description: We need some special herbs for healing potions. These plants grow in the hills north of Glaswald. Please watch out for wild animals. Reward: 10 silver coins. "This seems to suit me." Lucena murmured, relieved to find a mission that didn''t involve fighting. She returned to the reception desk to confirm her choice. Felina greeted her with a smile. "Ah, herbal collection mission. Good choice for a beginner." She said as she noted Lucena''s choice in the ledger. "These plants are quite easy to find, but be careful. Sometimes there are wild animals around the hills." Lucena nodded. "Okay, I''ll be careful." Felina pointed to a door on the other side of the room. "Before you leave, I suggest you visit our supply shop. There you can buy things like cutting knives, storage bags, or even rations. If you haven''t already, you can also rent a map of the Glaswald region." "Oh, that''s a good idea." Lucena replied. Felina added, "And if you want, we have locker facilities here. You can rent one to store your belongings that you don''t want to take with you during the trip." Lucena thought for a moment before nodding. "Alright, I''ll rent a locker." Felina led Lucena to a row of lockers near the entrance. "It costs one silver coin per week. You can store your belongings here and pick them up anytime during operating hours." Lucena paid the rent, then put away most of her belongings, leaving only her wooden plaque, some money, and a few other essentials. After that, she headed to the supply store as suggested. It wasn''t very big, but it was full of useful items for adventurers. Inside, the wooden shelves were filled with knives, ropes, water bags, and torches. A middle-aged man in a leather apron greeted her from behind the counter. "What do you need, young lady?" He asked kindly. Lucena explained her herb gathering mission. The man nodded and began gathering the items she needed: a small knife for cutting plants, a beginner''s adventurer''s book, a cloth pouch for storing herbs, and a map of the Glaswald region. "These will help you. And for a novice adventurer like you, I give you a discount." He said as he handed over the items. Lucena smiled gratefully. "Thank you very much." After paying, Lucena felt more prepared to embark on her first mission. With a small bag over her shoulder and a map in hand, she returned to Felina''s table to say goodbye. "Good luck, Lucena." Felina said with a wave. "And remember, if you run into trouble, just come back here. It''s better to give up than to risk your life for no reason." Lucena nodded vigorously. "I''ll be careful. Thank you for everything." With her heart hammering between enthusiasm and nervousness, Lucena stepped out of the Guild, ready to begin her little journey towards the northern hills of Glaswald. TBC.
