《Arcane Magic》
1. A New World
Where am I, am I dead? Oscar asked himself in apprehension as he tried to open his eyes, but realized he couldn¡¯t. Since the explosion at the gas station, his mind had been foggy.
Instictly, he took a deep breath, trying to calm his mind, but found that he couldn¡¯t breathe at all.
Shocked, he began to struggle in panic, but his hands and feet seemed to be bound by something.
After a long while, he calmed his mind, and gradually gave up the struggle. He grappled towards the direction of the vaguely screaming voice of the woman closer to him, and subconsciously wriggled forward.
He didn''t know how long he had been unconscious for, but he realized
As the wind blew fiercely, rolling-up sand and dust, the originally clear sky began to appear dim in an instant.
The sun began to turn into a huge silver disk, high up in the sky. Beside it was the black disk of the moon.
The Birch tribe, a lonely small tribe on the edge of the forest was struggling in the wind at this time.
This small tribe only had a few numbers of dwellers since it was one of the most common and lowest-ranking communities on the continent.
At this moment, in this small clan, a powerful looking man was pacing around anxiously, the brows of his resolute face were knitted together in concern.
¡°Chieftess, hold on, the baby will be out soon.¡± The midwife¡¯s encouragement came from the inner chamber of the man where a woman lay in childbirth¡¯s labour.
Hearing the voice of the midwife, Kai finally stopped pacing as the time had finally come. His wife was about to give birth?
He was having a panic thought when a voice suddenly sounded outside the hut. ¡°Chieftain, come and have a look at this. It¡¯s not looking good.¡±
Kai¡¯s heart jerked in panic, but after a moment of hesitation, he walked out of the hut.
Although the wanton wind was no longer as violent as before, he was surprised to find that the originally blue sky had turned into a dark night.
More so, the sun that should have appeared all day was now being overshadowed by endless darkness which occupied the entire sky. An eclipse.
A few seconds later, an enormous world-splitting thunder suddenly rumbled and exploded in the sky.
¡°The abandonment....¡± The village Shaman shouted, her body covered in magical items.Enjoying this book? Seek out the original to ensure the author gets credit.
Kai had learned of this situation from his father before. So, he furrowed his brows, watching the surrounding movement vigilantly.
The people of the tribe were all kneeling on the ground at this time, begging for heaven¡¯s forgiveness together with the unique tongue of the tribe, while the clan leader chanted words and kept chanting unintelligible spells.
Accompanied by the constantly exploding sky thunder, the atmosphere was strangely worrisome.
The sky exploded for a full quarter of an hour. At the beginning, it was more frequent. Slowly, the interval between the explosion of the sky thunder became longer and louder.
A while later, it only exploded once in every minute or two. During the interval following the sky¡¯s thunderous explosion, a loud cry of a baby suddenly came from the inner chamber of the hut.
Then the midwife¡¯s voice rang out. ¡°The Chieftess has given birth to a son!¡±
Kai looked at the hut in surprise after hearing this. But the change hadn¡¯t passed yet, and the Shaman was still chanting some incantations.
The chieftain, who was anxious to see his long-awaited child, made long strides towards the entrance of the hut, but quickly controlled the warning impulse in his heart and stopped.
He knew it was always better to remain alert to changes in the surroundings.
All of a sudden, there was a gigantic thunderbolt, streaking across the dark sky. It was followed by an unprecedented huge sky-thunder.
Immediately afterwards, a bolt of blue-white lightning streaked down from the sky, towards the roof of the chieftain¡¯s hut and disappeared inside.
Kai was scared witless by this development, but after regaining himself, he jumped up and rushed towards his hut. He was fearful that the mother and son in the hut could have been hurt by the lightning.
Oscar tried to move his body forward. He thought that as long as he could break free, he would see what was going on. If he wasn¡¯t dead, maybe he could find Dannie and Sammie.
But as he gradually recovered his memory, Oscar began to think about the explosion at the gas station, of the fierce bodies flying in the air.
Was he dead? What are these sticky things around him, blood, or grease? What about his friends, were they still alive, and if so, where would they be?
After squirming for a long while, his body suddenly felt lighten, as if he had escaped from the depths of an ocean.
But befor he knew it, he was dragged by a pair of hands, turned upside down on his head while being lifted with his legs.
He immediately stretched out his hands, trying to grab something. With his mouth open, he spat out a burst of liquid.
Immediately, he coughed violently, and found that he could finally open his mouth. He couldn¡¯t stop himself from greedily breathing in the fresh air.
He tried hard to open his eyes, but they were sticky, and couldn¡¯t open them.
There was another vague voice in his ears, but Oscar couldn¡¯t hear it clearly. He felt a little bit of tiredness in his body, so he gave up struggling.
He let his body be moved around, and it seemed that someone was helping him clean up the filth on it. He had to try and open his eyes to see who was helping him.
Oscar didn¡¯t know how long it took, but he finally felt that his eyes could open a bit. Through this gap, he could vaguely see a grey surroundings.
Again, there was the low voice in his ears, but he still couldn¡¯t hear what or who it was. Was it Dannie or Sammie? Are they all alive?
He wanted to shout, but there seemed to be something stuck in his throat, and he couldn¡¯t make his voice heard. He only made some babbling sounds.
But after struggling for a while, he realized that his eyes were finally opened. He opened his hands, and shook them before his eyes.
Realizing he could see clearly now, he tried to grab the shadow in front of him.
Then, the voice in his ears became clearer and clearer. It was true that someone was talking, but he couldn¡¯t understand a word of it.
While he was busy thinking, his mind, sensed the powerful energy again, making him feel the choking hands of death.
2. Years Later
Time flew by like the wind, and at this time, ten years had passed.
Oscar, alongside the rest of the hunters, was coming from the dark forest when he saw a number of people standing in front of his parents¡¯ hut.
Judging by their appearances, it was obvious they were not members of the Birch tribe.
There were large and small packages stockpiled at the feet of these people. Not far away from where they were, was a large herd of cattle, sheep and several horses. And there were still some unloaded goods on the horses¡¯ backs.
Oscar didn¡¯t know where these people came from, or what they came to do, so he contemplated as he approached. Were they people who came to join their clan? Or maybe they were trade merchants?
Among the neighboring tribes, there were often merchants selling goods on the move. But why did they pile them in front of his father¡¯s house?
Curiously, he walked into the hut with his twin sisters and the village soulsmith, Wynter, who they met outside.
As soon as they walked in, he saw two strange men sitting on the smaller wooden seaters inside the hut, while the Kai and the clan chieftess, Kiara, sat in the higher place.
Oscar quickly walked up to them, knelt down, and greeted his parents, the leaders of the Birch tribe according to the tradition of the land. ¡°My greetings, poppa, momma.¡±
¡°Greetings, poppa, momma.¡± The twin sisters at this time had already gotten rid of their servant status.
As soon as they turned five years of age, Kai and his wife had officially accepted the two sisters as their adopted daughters. That was why their names changed to Shesara and Hespera.
¡°Chieftain, chieftess.¡± Wynter said with a slight bow.
¡°Wynter.¡± Kai nodded with a smile, and raised his hand. ¡°Well, we were just about to send someone to call the four of you.¡±
At the signal from Kiara, Oscar and the sisters walked to the chieftess and stood beside her, hereby taking a closer look at the two men sitting side by side, before their parents.
One was tall and mighty-looking, with dark eyebrows and ringing eyes, certainly a fighter by class. But because he had too many facial hair, his age couldn¡¯t be determined.
The other was of medium build, with a cold and piercing eyes, like an obsidian blade. Judging from his appearance, he could be regarded as a kind of mage, and he was around twenty years of age.
Both of them were dark-skinned, dressed in coarse animal fur costumes, which must be of their tribal origin.
When Kai saw Oscar standing still, he glanced at the two men and said to them. ¡°Our honored guests, this is my son, Oscar.¡±
The two were surprised at first, then quickly stood up, and Oscar performed a tribal greeting ceremony.
After the ceremonial form of greeting, Oscar heard the young-looking man saying, ¡°I have long heard of your great wisdom, young master Oscar. I¡¯m Guyon of the Canyon tribe, my father is Charbel, the head of the tribe. This is one of our warriors, Luthor.¡±This content has been unlawfully taken from Royal Road; report any instances of this story if found elsewhere.
The mighty warrior immediately tapped Oscar with a fist, and said in a buzzing voice. ¡°It¡¯s an honor to meet you, master Oscar.¡±
Oscar immediately replied. ¡°The honor is mine. Please, sit down.¡±
After everyone sat down again, Kai looked around, until his eyes finally settled on Guyon. ¡°Master Guyon, the two things you just mentioned, one of them involved my son, Oscar, so I can¡¯t unilaterally make the decision on that. Why don¡¯t you tell him yourself. If he agrees, then I¡¯ll accept it.¡±
Oscar was surprised when he heard this. What important thing was his father unable to decide on his own?
Guyon leaned sideway slightly, and then said to Oscar. ¡°Young master Oscar, there are two things that brought us here today. May I ask you of them?¡±
Oscar swiftly gestured with his extended hand. ¡°Please, go ahead, Master Guyon.¡±
Guyon was obviously a little embarrassed. He slightly glanced at the twin sisters beside Oscar and smiled gently. ¡°Let me start with the first one. We came wth a happy event in mind. I¡¯ve long heard about the beauty of the noble twins of the Birch tribe. So, I came to ask the hands of one of them in marriage. So, I hope the chieftain, and chieftess can grant us this humble proposal.¡±
¡°Marriage proposal?¡± Oscar exclaimed, and looked back at his twin sisters.
He was shocked that the heir of the Canyon tribe came to propose the marriage personally, and raised the discussions in front of him and the twin sisters. He was only ten years of age, what would he know about marriage?
Although it was reckless, there was nothing wrong with it. He quickly recovered himself, and asked. ¡°Master Guyon, are you talking about one of my two sisters?¡±
Guyon had already noticed the two sisters when they came in. Although his tribe was a larger tribe than the Birch tribe, with tens of thousands of people, he couldn¡¯t find a woman to compare with them.
He knew in his heart without any introduction that these two were the daughters adopted by the legendary chieftain of the Birch clan.
So, hearing Oscar¡¯s question at this time, Guyon quickly replied. ¡°Yes, young master Oscar. And if this wish is granted by your parents, our clan¡¯s will forever form an alliance, and we will share our paths together.¡±
Lamentably, what had to happen, must occur. Oscar sighed in acknowledgement.
The twin sisters, Shesara and Hespera, were already young adult. In the tribe, women of their age had all gotten married.
So, to take care of themselves and their future lineage, the two sisters had to get married too. Although he was resentful, Oscar knew that this kind of thing would have to be faced sooner or later.
After thinking about it, Oscar couldn¡¯t help asking. ¡°But which of my sisters are you talking about?¡±
Guyon was extremely happy upon hearing this. Quickly, he got up and extended his hands forward. ¡°The two ladies are greatly beautiful and elegant. Any one of them will be a blessing as a wife.¡±
Oscar nodded appreciatively when he heard the words. The Canyon tribe heir was quite generous, and not a picky eater.
Moreover, the two girls were identical. If one was not closer to them as much as possible, it would be really difficult to tell who was who.
Oscar looked back at his sister¡¯s, then turned his head to look at his parents again, and after a moment of contemplation, he said. ¡°Master Guyon, please, can I ask if you have a wife currently?¡±
One must know, among tribes, high ranking nobles in a tribe could marry more than one wife at will.
Although people didn¡¯t know that there was a genetic thing about it, this could indeed make the tribe more populous and prosperous.
However, his father only had his mother as his wife which made him very happy.
Perhaps it was preconceived, because in his memory from his previous life, monogamy had already been established for many generations. Except in some parts of the previous world.
So, in his heart, he was quite angry with all the tribes¡¯ way of marrying many wives since there was no real love in that at all.
Upon hearing Oscar¡¯s question, Guyon answered solemnly. ¡°Although I¡¯m twenty years of age, I¡¯ve been practicing magic in an Academy for these past few years, and I just came back. So I have not yet married a wife.¡±
¡°Oh, are you born a refiner, master Guyon?¡± Kai couldn¡¯t help being a little surprised when he heard this.
¡°Not at all, chieftain.¡± Guyon immediately replied respectfully. ¡°I became a refiner four years ago and officially graduated as a silver-ranked fire mage, six months ago.¡±
A silver-level fire mage? They all wondered in surprise. No wonder there was a hint of pride in his voice. Such an achievement at a young age.
3. The Canyon Tribe
In the territories around the forest and beyond, there were so many tribes with less than ten thousand people, but there were not many tribes that could produce one or two refiners of any class, not to talk of a young silver-level mage.
Although the Birch tribe had two refiners in the chieftess and the Soulsmith, who weren¡¯t young of age, it was not a common occurrence.
So, Oscar was also surprised. The power base of a silver-level mage wasn¡¯t average. With this in mind, he sighed and said. ¡°I greatly admire you, master Guyon. You¡¯re a great mage without any doubt, but marriage is not a trivial matter. I know my parents will want to be completely sure about my sisters¡¯ well-being as I am. So, why don¡¯t we show you around while they discuss your proposal with my sisters?¡±
¡°Hmm, that sounds good, young master Oscar.¡± Hearing this, Guyon suddenly felt a little discouraged ball, but knew it was a good development. Sitting back on the chair, he thought to himself. Impressive.
There were sayings that this heir of the Birch tribe had a great wisdom since he was a chid¡± He didn¡¯t believe it at first, but at this moment, he could testify to it.
Seeing that the matter had come to an end, Oscar asked immediately. ¡°Master Guyon, you said there are two things that brought you here. What¡¯s the second one?¡±
¡°Yes...¡± When Guyon heard the words, he immediately recovered his mind, and replied. ¡°It¡¯s about your new weapons, the etherbows and spears. We have heard of their power. So, coming here, my father asked me to ask if you could allow us to buy some of them. As a form of cooperation, he sent a small gift to the chieftain.¡±
Guyon reached into his bag of holding and produced an emerald case with different patterns of flowers and birds carved on it. He stepped forward and handed the box to Kai, with a slight bow.
Kai opened the box, and was shocked by what was inside. It was a thin and transparent one-piece cloth.
Kiara suddenly exclaimed. ¡°Mithril Coat?¡±
Guyon was also quite intrigued by the words. He didn¡¯t expect anyone in this little Birch tribe could call this item¡¯s name at a glance. It seemed that he really underestimated this tribe.
¡°Your knowledge is exemplary, chieftess.¡± Guyon nodded and said, ¡°This item is indeed a Mithril Coat. It can expand or contrast when worn on the body, light as if it was nothing, or hard as steel to prevent the body against injury. As it is, it can withstand weapons strikes and magical attacks below the gold-level power base. My father got it by chance more than ten years ago, and it has been treasured by my family ever since. But for the knowledge of etherbow, this is just the beginning of our thanks.¡±
"This is an expensive gift, master Guyon..." Kai put the Mithril Coat back into the emerald box, and said. ¡°...but the etherbow was developed by my son. It won''t be ideal for me to make decisions on it without asking him, which I believe is fair enough. So Oscar, what do you think?¡±
Oscar was observing the bag of holding on Guyon when he heard his father¡¯s question, and quickly replied, ¡°Master Guyon, it¡¯s not that we don¡¯t want to share this knowledge with you but this etherbow is time consuming and very delicatel to make. You can¡¯t just find a bowssmith to make it.¡±
Guyon felt a little bit bad after hearing this. It was obvious the young heir to the Birch tribe was not going to let it off easily. So he quickly interjected. ¡°Young master Oscar, you don¡¯t need to worry too much about that. My tribe has more than a few skilled bowyers who are good at bow making. I think there¡¯ll be no problems in making these etherbows.¡±
¡°I admire your tribe even more, master Guyon.¡± After pondering for a while, Oscar couldn¡¯t help sighing. ¡°But I don¡¯t know if you have a bowsmith who is also a blacksmith and a skilled fire mage. Not to mention he must have a silver-level power base."
¡°A silver-level fire mage who¡¯s also a bowssmith and blacksmith at the same time?¡± Guyon was also shocked by these requirements, and quickly asked. ¡°Young master Oscar, are you saying that these etherbows can only be crafted by a silver-level soulsmith?¡±
¡°Yes, master Guyon. Otherwise, it could be dangerous to its wielder.¡± As soon as Oscar said the words, he saw that Guyon was a little bewildered, trying to determine if what he said was true or false? How much was true, and how much of it was false.Unauthorized content usage: if you discover this narrative on Amazon, report the violation.
The Canyon mage must be judging from Oscar¡¯s young age that the strength of the Birch tribe was really formidable.
Seeing Guyon¡¯s complexion changing again and again, his eyes wandering, Oscar smiled inwardly. Fleetingly, he felt a slight jolt in his mind, but quickly dismissed it. He put his mind back on the matter at hand.
He remembered the old adage about striking while the iron was still hot. It seemed that he had to put more wood into the fire, and give the mage something to think about. With this in mind, he gestured towards Wynter. ¡°Master Guyon, that¡¯s my uncle, Wynter. He¡¯s the soulsmith of our tribe.¡±
The mage and the warrior, Luthor, glanced at each other, and drew big question marks in their hearts. Was this little man really the legendary mage and craftsman?
Guyon quickly turned on his mage sight, and was shocked when he saw Wynter¡¯s information. He was really a mighty Soulsmith with a strong power base in magic. He smiled and gave the magesmith a curt nod. ¡°Magus Wynter, your reputation precedes you. It¡¯s an honor to meet you today.¡±
¡°Master Guyon, you have not seen the etherbows and spears, have you? How about letting my uncle do a demonstrations for you to see?¡±
Guyon was surprised when he heard this. Was it true that the Birch tribe had successfully created some powerful hunting bows and spears? Otherwise, how could they be so heralded grandly. This was a good opportunity for him to see if everything was true or not. After thinking about it, Guyon said with excitement. ¡°It would be an honor.¡±
Outside the hut, they watched as Wynter walked forward, and drew a certain distance from everyone. He waved his hand, recited some spells, and a silver crystal, of more than half a foot long suddenly appeared out of thin air in front of him.
Under the control of his mind power, the crystal began to flash brighter. Countless orbs of light suddenly appeared in the air.
They started to rotate before converging from different directions towards Wynter¡¯s hand, gradually turning into a ball of light ball, and then it stretched to more than one meter long.
As the light vanished, they saw a recurve bow over one meter long in the Wynter¡¯s hand. This was because the Wynter deliberately kept the speed of cohesion to the lowest for acting purposes. Simply, just by waving his hands, he could have used his magical power to manifest the etherbow.
Although this etherbow was formed by essence, it was full of physical texture in terms of color and feel in the hand. The Soulsmith didn¡¯t even pay it any attention, but handed the etherbow to the chieftain.
Looking at the Soulsmith, it was obvious to the delegates from the canyon tribe that he had full confidence in the weapon he had manifested.
Kai handed the bow to Guyon, and said at the same time. ¡°Master Guyon, please give it a try.¡±
It wasn¡¯t until Kai handed the bow to him that Guyon suppressed his surprise and took the weapon respectfully. Although he was a mage, but as a tribesman, he knew how to shoot the arrows. After flipping it left and right, Guyon nodded repeatedly. ¡°It¡¯s really well made.¡±
Swiftly, the mage raised the etherbow, knotted a cannon arrow and pointed at the ancient tree in the distance, and pulled the string. A loud banging sound erupted after the arrow hit the tree. Even the frightened birds took to the air.
Kai waved to everyone, and after indicating that all was fine, the tribesmen began to carry out their tasks again.
After Guyon tried the power of the etherbow, he nodded in acknowledgement and returned the etherbow to Wynter. The soulsmith didn¡¯t raise his hand to pick it up, but just smiled at Guyon, and the etherbow disappeared from Guyon¡¯s hands in a little flash of light.
The mage went to the tree to check it carefully, and saw that there were three arrows embedded deeply in the tree, in three large holes. He nodded again and sighed. The base of this bow was really strong. He realized that a silver-level beast could easily be shot to death. If his people could be equipped with this kind of weapon, they would be even stronger as a clan.
It seemed that he must find a way to get some of these bows. ¡°It¡¯s powerful, a really good weapon, young master Oscar. What about this, since my clan can¡¯t make it, can I buy a batch from you?¡±
¡°Master Guyon, you have seen the situation of our clan. We are no more than three to five hundred in number. We rely on these etherbows to make a stand in this world. So, after giving you the etherbows, what power would our clan have?¡±
¡°I understand, please be rest assured, if our clan can get some of these etherbows, then we will form an alliance with your tribe. Whenever you need our help, we¡¯ll immediately come to your aid.¡±
¡°That¡¯s good to hear. I¡¯m sure my son¡¯s mind is at rest. Now, why don¡¯t we go hunting together tomorrow while we finalize our discussion on the proposed marriage? We have plenty of time since you¡¯re staying with us for a few more days.¡± Kai smiled, and said.
Guyon nodded in agreement and said. ¡°I totally agree with you. It will be an honor to hunt with your tribe.¡±
The heir of the Canyon tribe also knew that he couldn¡¯t be too impatient, or obsessed with the weapon. The first step today was a good start.
¡°That settles it then. Why don¡¯t we go and rest for a while. At noon, I will set up a banquet to properly welcome you to our village.¡± The chieftain voiced, then shouted to the servants under his services. ¡°Come, take Master Guyon down to his quarters to rest.¡±
Guyon and the warrior, Luthor, immediately bowed and said. ¡°Thank you, chieftain.¡±
After sending Guyon away, the family group returned to the house, but no one spoke for a long time. The two sisters stood on each side of Kiara, holding her hands. Their eyes started to moist up in sadness.
4. A Bad Omen
After a long silence, Kai took a sip from his teacup, and said in deep thought. ¡°I think this young mage has a bright future. I am very optimistic about him marrying one of our daughters.¡±
¡°I agree.¡± Kiara patted the hands of the second daughter, and then she pulled the two sisters to the front. ¡°He''s also born into a renowned family. If one of our daughters marry him, she will not suffer, and she¡¯ll be safe too. I have no objection to it too.¡±
After listening, the two sisters embraced Kiara¡¯s, tears rolling down their eyes like broken pearls.
¡°Mother, father, we can¡¯t leave you here alone.¡±
"True, how can we leave you all alone here?"
Kiara shook her head and said calmly. ¡°Silly girls, don¡¯t you know that your future and that of the tribe is important? I think you are used to running wild with your junior brother every day that you lost track of time. You¡¯re grown up girls now, you¡¯re not getting any younger. Moreover, I think this young mage is a good person, if you miss this opportunity, there may not be any better than him in the future.¡±
¡°Well, since nobody has any objection, then I¡¯ll decide.¡± Kai placed the mug in his hand on the table, and said. After pondering for a while, he continued. ¡°Shesara.¡±
Shesara¡¯s body trembled slightly when she heard her name. Immediately, she fell to her knees, her heart beating as fast as a hunted deer¡¯s own. "Yes, father."
¡°My daughter.¡± Kai let out a soft breath and said. ¡°You are the eldest, you should be the first to get married. What do you say?¡±
The twin sisters were not originally from the Birch tribe. The two girls were born in another medium-sized tribe. When they were much younger, their tribe was reduced into small groups of villagers because of the raging war, and the surviving tribe members fled and became wanderers. Many years ago, the Birch tribe found more than a dozen surviving members of this tribe while hunting in the Outer forest, and brought them back to their tribe to settle down, including the twin sisters.
As the eldest of the two sisters, Hespera matured earlier. She had a calm temperament, and worked more patiently. She was most loved by the couple. Whereas, Shesara was more childish, playful by nature, but greatly cute. Under Kai¡¯s observation of the sisters¡¯ temperaments, as far as marriage was concerned, Hespera was the most suitable at the moment.
As for Hespera, knowing their lives were saved by the chieftain, so the decision of the tribe ruler could only be obeyed by her. Moreover, Hespera knew in her heart that her foster parents were also doing what was good for her. Although she had an endless love for Oscar as her brother, she knew that it would never be possible to continue staying with him. She had to leave one day, and the day was now here.Unlawfully taken from Royal Road, this story should be reported if seen on Amazon.
Seeing that Hespera had agreed, Oscar immediately walked over to pull her up, and comforted her. ¡°Sister, don¡¯t worry too much about me. I¡¯m stiill in good hands here. I just want you to be happy in life.¡±
¡°Mhm.¡±
¡°And...¡± Oscar looked outside the door and said with conviction. ¡°...I will also help you to monitor the character of master Guyon while he''s here. If his character is not right, we will implore our parents to cancel the marriage arrangement and send hiim away from our tribe.¡±
¡°He''s right. In the next few days, we¡¯ll observe his nature.¡± Kai also added before turning to Oscar. ¡°The hunting tomorrow is in your hands. Your uncle will supervise you, just in case.¡±
¡°Yes, father.¡±
¡°Hespera, you must also observe this young mage in the next couple of days, so you can learn more about him too.¡±
¡°Okay, father.¡±
¡°Good.¡± After hesitating for a while, Kai continued. ¡°As for the Canyon tribe¡¯s purchase of the bows, I¡¯ve been thinking about it, and I believe that it would be good to give them some as a wedding gift because of Hespera. What do you think, Kiara?¡±
¡°It¡¯s a good arrangement. I¡¯m in support of it.¡±
Kai nodded, then glanced at the crowd at last, got up and said. ¡°That¡¯s settled then. Oscar, you go and arrange the hunt for tomorrow.¡±
¡°Wait.¡± Kiara stood up and said. ¡°Son, come here.¡±
Kiara picked up the emerald box on the table and said to Oscar. ¡°.Although this Mithril Coat is not the best, it is still a treasure. So, I want you to it on now for your safety during the hunt. That way, I¡¯ll feel more at ease.¡±
¡°Yes...¡± Kai nodded and laughed. ¡°... I already forgot about it.¡±
Kiara pulled Oscar over, and began to take off his clothes, leaving only his trousers.
Oscar quickly put his hands on his trouser and asked his mother nervously, ¡°Mother, do I need to take this off?¡±
Kiara couldn¡¯t help laughing. ¡°Why, are you still so shy in front of your mother? This Mithril Coat is a close-fitting item, how can you wear it without taking all your cloth off?¡±
Oscar had no choice but to remove his trouser, making everyone snickered.
The Mithril Coat felt similar to the undergown worn by modern women, except that it was thinner and more transparent, and has stronger elasticity.
After putting it on, he put on his robe, and a sensation of coolness washed all over his body. A sensation of coolness. He stretched his hands and feet and walked back and forth a few times in the room. There was no hindrance at all. Just as if he wasn¡¯t wearing anything. The sheer magical power of this thing made him sigh in content. .
Looking at her son, Kiara was filled with joy.
After turning around two times, Oscar saw that everyone was watching him, snickering, and suddenly remembered the embarrassing situation just now. He put a frown on his face and said. ¡°Mother, if there¡¯s nothing else for me to do here, I¡¯ll like to take my leave.¡±
Then, he ran away.
When everyone saw it, they smiled at one another, and then dispersed.
At the corner of the tribe square, the village Shaman hid behind a tree, observing the patriarch¡¯s hut. She had been here for a long time, observing the signs in the sky. She had been seeing signs of bad omen in the sky and had been making supplications to avert it, but they were scaring her more than before.
5. The Hunt [I]
Early next morning, the moon was still struggling with the rising sun, but was gradually pushed down the western horizon. At this junction, countless black and white particles were rolling over each other, constantly emitting faint flashes of energy.
On the hillside not far from the Birch tribe, next to the two identical huts, was a stone house that was completely incompatible with its style, which was quite unusual. Outside of these huts stood Shesara and Hespera, wearing exactly the same dress, and looking beautifully the same. The only difference was that the eyes of one of the girls looking at the stone hut, was full of reluctance and nostalgic memories.
It was almost an hour, but Hespera¡¯s eyes didn¡¯t want to leave the hut for a moment. It was as if she wanted to catch everything in front of her eyes and imprint them in her mind. She knew that in a few days, she would be leaving her tribe with Guyon. As a tribal rule, once the relationship between two people had been agreed and confirmed, the girl did not have to wait for the wedding ceremony. From that day onward, the girl had to spend the rest of her time with her man.
Outside the hut, countless ether orbs flickered with faint fluorescence and slowly converge towards the hut in a whirlpool, reflecting rays of the moonlight.
Since assuming the responsibility of protecting Oscar, Wynter had rarely forged any iron. This furnace was only deliberately placed to hide the appearance of the ether orbs.
When the last trace of darkness in the sky disappeared, the surrounding orbs immediately disappeared. The twin sisters habitually picked up the necessary items and walked into the hut.
After giving Oscar his breakfast, Shesara said. ¡°Oscar, uncle Wynter must have gathered the people by now, let¡¯s get going.¡±
Oscar nodded, and after the three of them asked their parents for permission, they quickly walked to the tribe square. Already, nearly two hundred people had gathered in the square, neatly lined up in several long rows. Wynter and Guyon were chatting in front of the line.
Upon seeing this, Oscar ran towards Guyon, and shouted apologetically as he ran. ¡°Master Guyon, sorry for keeping you waiting.¡±
¡°That¡¯s Okay.¡± Guyon immediately replied politely. Afterwards, he smiled at the second girl behind Oscar and nodded, but received a snort from her as she raised her head proudly. ¡°I just arrived too.¡±
Wynter stepped forward and said, ¡°Oscar, the hunting group are all assembled. There are a hundred fifty people in total, and each one is equipped with an etherbow.¡±
Oscar looked at the assembled tribesmen, all of them were strong young men, holding bows and arrows, and some carrying longswords or spears on their backs. They were quite a sight. This story originates from Royal Road. Ensure the author gets the support they deserve by reading it there.
According to previous hunting experience, the Birch people found that if the etherbows were used directly, although the damage was amazing, the fur of the prey would be full of arrow holes, which would make it difficult to sell at a good price. Hence, normal bows and arrows are the main long-range attack. etherbows were only used when dealing with powerful beasts.
When Oscar saw it, he said with satisfaction. ¡°Okay, uncle. Should we split into groups now?"
"Yes, seven groups, each with twenty people. The remaining ten people will follow you and magus Guyon to guard the hunt.¡± Wynter replied, and soon, the clansmen were divided into eighth groups. It was the largest number they had ever gathered. It reached more than thirty people. Nearly two hundred hunters entered the large dark forest from different directions.
There was a distance of ten to twenty meters between each group, and Oscar¡¯s group was in the middle, which was convenient for commanding the actions of the hunters.
Standing on a high slope, Kai felt very relieved to see his son lead people into the dark forest neatly. Oscar had become more and more of a future leader. When he reached adulthood, he could let go of his burden and enjoy life with his wife, Kiara.
¡°Chieftain...¡± Nobody knew when the Shamanic woman appeared behind Kai in a mysterious way, and uttered. The woman immediately continued, ¡°... I recently divine the signs and found a bad omen, extremely bad omen, my lord. I think you should make preparations for the tribe¡¯s relocation as soon as possible to avoid this disaster coming to the clan.¡±
Kai frowned when he heard this, and said. ¡°Sapphire, our clan is having important guests, so don¡¯t be an harbinger of gloom and disturb the peaceful and festive atmosphere around the clan at this time. I assure you, we will make plans about your warning signs when the guest leaves.¡±
After listening, Sapphire stared at Kai with penetrating eyes and said, ¡°Chieftain, you must heed my warnings. This disaster is coming fast and hard. Our lives depends on it. We have to guard against it.¡±
By the gods! Every time Kai saw the Shaman¡¯s eyes, a chill would run down his spine. He remembered at the beginning, when the Birch tribe was just established. This soothsayer appeared out of nowhere, and predicted that the Birch tribe would rise up and become a strong clan in the years to come. That was when he decided she must stay with the clan. Although at that time, he saw that the spiritual woman was haggard and looked strange, he felt pity for her, and provided her with a place to stay.
However, Kiara wasn¡¯t fond of the Shaman very much at first sight, but since Kai had promised to take her in with the tribe, she obliged. But she tried to avoid meeting the Shaman whenever it was possible.
Turning around, Kai avoided the eyes of the Shaman and said. ¡°Okay, Sapphire. I will arrange the relocation. The food here is becoming scarce anyway, so it¡¯s time to migrate. But please, don¡¯t say things like this in front of people when we have guests. So, let¡¯s wait for them to leave first, then we will arrange the migration. Okay?¡±
¡°Yes, Chieftain.¡±
¡°You can go now.¡± Seeing the Shaman staggering away, Kai frowned again. This old mysterious witch couldn¡¯t really be more annoying. Thinking back to the day when Oscar was born, this old witch was not only at the place where he was born, but foretold a bad omen. She had told them that their child was abnormal and should be put to death to avoid the oncoming disasters in the future. Fortunately, Kiara didn¡¯t hear it. Otherwise, with her nature, this old witch would not have survived that day.
It was always some bad omens that she delivered. If it weren¡¯t for her getting many things right... Well, whether it was true or false, it was time to migrate. Kai shook his head and walked towards his hut.
