《Thita in the lands abandoned by God》 Chapter 1: Perhaps there is a second chance ''What led up to this?'' These were his thoughts. He didn''t know what else to think at this moment. It was a complex situation indeed. After all, humans value their lives. But he did not. Not anymore at least. ''At least this is for the better¡ whatever that may be.'' He was unsure of many things in life. He had yet to experience a lot of things that life had to offer. He was too young to have such thoughts¡ Still being young has nothing to do with intelligence. Being young has nothing to do with experience. Being young doesn''t protect you from cruelty, despair, pain, loss¡ Life is unfair. He knew that better than anyone else. ''What a funny result. Perhaps, I am still too naive. I was such an idiot back then. Thinking that I would finally be free, me out of all people.'' He didn''t know why he had such thoughts at this moment. Was it guilt, sadness, complain. He did not know. He also did not care to know at this moment. ''Yet here I am. On the verge of death, rethinking my life. Once a human always a human as they say heh. How pathetic¡'' That was right. He was going to die. Alone with no one to mourn for him, no one to remember him and with nothing to leave behind to be remembered. Absolutely nothing. But why? He was not injured, not suffering from any diseases and he was young. He had his whole life ahead of him. So why was he on the verge of death? It was complicated to explain. His situation was a mess. A mess he did not wish to clean up. So he was going to run away from that mess. He was going to escape and be free from it. How? How else of course. He looked towards the ground. It was far as it was supposed to be. Being on the rooftop of a 20 story building was high and the ground was supposed to be far below of course. ''That should do it, I hope¡'' He did not like to hope. There was no point in hoping. It never resulted in anything good. But he did not care at this point if it would result in anything at all. He was going to jump and die. Who would stop him? Why would anyone stop him? ''Even if I fail to die I will try again so there is no point in overthinking it. Just jump already¡'' As he thought that he took a step forward. A step towards the unknown. He had taken such steps in the past hoping to reach something better. Hoping for a better life. That never happened. But today he wasn''t hoping for anything better. He just wanted to fall and leave this place once and for all. Was the world going to unfulfill that wish for him?Unauthorized duplication: this narrative has been taken without consent. Report sightings. Well, he was going to find out. After all there was nothing to support him in front of him. So after that step he fell. ''This is it huh? What a waste¡'' He was falling. These were his last moments in life. After that death was awaiting him. He was ready to face him. He didn''t fear death. So this should be alright. Right? He fell lower and lower. Deeper and deeper. Towards the¡ void!? ''What the¡'' He was supposed to be falling towards the ground. No he was supposed to have hit the ground already. He was also sure that there were buildings around him. So where did they go? Where did the ground go? Was he even falling? So many questions rose to his head. Answers and speculations rose too. But he was unsure. How could he be sure? He was falling or perhaps floating in an empty void. He couldn''t see anything around him. He could feel the air around him indicating that he was falling. So was he dead? Was this the so-called afterlife? An empty void with nothing but yourself in it? He was uncertain. Uncertain if he died or not. Uncertain if this was supposed to be the afterlife or just a part of it. But he was also confused about all this. The void, the fact that he was floating and more importantly the fact that he still had a body, clothes and basically everything he fell with was still with him. Why? "What a¡ confusing situation¡" He didn''t know what else to say at this point. What else was there to say? "Confusing indeed." His eyes widened as he looked around. Someone spoke and it was not him this time. He was surprised to hear someone else speak. Were there other people in the void? As he looked around, he spotted a distant figure floating a safe distance away from him. That figure seemed to belong to a human, a male to be more specific. He looked young, around the age of 16, he had silver hair and pure white skin. His clothes were also white with a bit of gray here and there. His eyes were also white surprisingly and also not so surprisingly. He was also very handsome at a point that some may question if he was the same species as a human. ''How can there be someone else here?'' That and lots more questions rose to his head while looking at the strange person in front of him. Before he could say anything though to respond the other party spoke again. "Did I scare you that much? You seem a lot more lively now considering you were about to commit suicide, don''t you agree?" His tone was rather¡ comical? He spoke as if he was accustomed to being in the middle of nowhere with a stranger as company. ''How does he know that I was about to off myself? Is this thing his doing? Is he the one who got me here? How did he even manage to get me here? Is he a human?" Questions, questions and questions. Only more and more questions kept rising to his head with no answers. He couldn''t understand what was going on and could only speculate at this point. Or ask. Not wanting to make the other party wait, he responded. "Why am I here?" There were lots of questions he could ask but he decided to go with this one. Asking about the future is more useful than about the present at this point. A few minutes ago he thought he didn''t have any left after all¡ The other party smiled after hearing the question. "Cutting straight to the case. As expected of you. I always make the right choices after all." ''Choices? What choices is he talking about?'' He decided to go ahead and ask. "Right choices?" "That''s right! I, Zero chose a mortal to get a second chance! Who in this case is you!" He frowned as he heard that. ''Second chance? You gotta be kidding me?'' But this wasn''t new to him. He was used to experiencing such unexpected events in life. Life never treated him fair. It was no surprise that death would never treat him fair too, wasn''t it? ''I can''t even kill myself now huh? How fucking great! I bet I must be so goddamn lucky!'' Chapter 2: The born of Thita He didn''t know what to make of the situation at this point. His first life was pure hell and he could only imagine how much hell a second one could be. With his luck it might even be better to go to literal hell. After seeing his complicated expression after hearing him, the other party spoke again. "Is there something wrong? You don''t seem that enthusiastic." After hearing the so-called Zero speak again, he decided to respond. Only this time his tone was more serious. "So, let me get this strait. Out of all the people out there, you chose me, a person who wanted to die?" Zero looked at him and smiled. "Correct!" After hearing such a short answer he couldn''t help but be angry. "I don''t think you understand what I am trying to say here. I decided to jump off that building because I hated my life. What makes you think that I, out of all the people, would want to live again?" Zero smiled once again hearing his explain. "I am sorry to say that but you are misunderstand something. It''s not about you wanting it. I have watched your life from the beggingto the end... No, that''s wrong. I have both lived and experienced your life from your perspective till now." He looked at him confused after hearing him speak. Zero though, even after noticing his confused face, didn''t bother to let him ask anything. "You see, I am a really powerful being. I have powers that you can''t even conceive. Normally, I wouldn''t bother to even look at such inferior beings such as yourself but you are special. That''s why I want you to understand that you really don''t have a choice but to accept my gift or whatever I give you. Whether you want it or not." After hearing that he couldn''t help but shiver. It was not his speech that made him fell like that though, but something else. It was as if the world around was suddenly becoming more dangerous. As if the will of the being called Zero was enough to change everything around him completely. The tale has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation. Noticing that, he decided to respond with cation while trying to ignore the constant feeling of danger. "I.. I see. I am sorry for straight up declining your gift, but.. you see I really don''t want to live after everything I have been through." Hearing that Zero answered with indifference. "I am aware of that. That''s why I have made some preparations before hand." "Preparations?" He couldn''t help but wonder. "That''s right. You will be send somewhere else entirely from your old world. To a place that you can find happiness." He couldn''t help but wonder. ''Happiness you say? I wonder how long has it been, since I last felt that.'' "How can you be so sure?" He couldn''t help but accept that idea. If what the other party said was true. If there was even a slight chance that he could live a happy life then he would at least give it a try. Sure the world was always harsh on him. But the world seemed to not wish to go against that being. Perhaps, there was a chance for chance. "Who said said I am sure?" ... ''Maybe not.." Noticing his expression, Zero spoke once again. "Don''t get this wrong. I am just saying that it''s up to you to find happiness on that place. I will of course tell you some important information but that''s all." He looked at him. "I see. I will take your offer then even though I don''t have a choice. I just have one question." Zero smiled. "That''s acceptable. Will you share it?" He looked at him seriously. "What''s the catch?" Zero looked at him dumbfounded. That was only for a short moment thought since then he started laughing. "You truly are a funny individual! A cautious one too!" After he stopped laughing he spoke once again. "There is no catch! Just go and live your life as you wish or just end it! I don''t care whatever you do after anyways. I just would appreciate if you give it a chance before you do anything rush. That''s all!" He looked as him confused. "That''s all? What will you gain from that?" "That''s nothing you should worry about. Just think of it as a thing I did out of boredom or something like that if that pleases you. Anyways enough chit talking. Let get to business." He nodded to him even though his confusion rose much more that ever before. "So before anything, here is your new name. From now on you are Thita. Got it?" "But I already have a name? I don''t need a new..!" Before he could finish though he was interrupted. "Yeah yeah, so what? Will you refuse a gift of mine?" He didn''t knew how to answer. He already knew that refusing this being was impossible so he just have to accept it. "Got it. Why Thita though?" "Wise question! Your name is the spelling of the eighth letter from the Greek alphabet! Or to be more specific an alternation of it!" "I see." ''The hell I see, what does that have to do with anything.'' He couldn''t help but be confused. Everything made little to no sense so far. "You don''t need to understand it. It''s just something I do. All you need to do is pay close attention from now on. If you don''t. Let''s just say your whole new life will make as much sense as the last couple minutes." He looked at him with seriousness after hearing that. ''You sure know how to make someone pay attention...'' Chapter 3: Last minute explanations After recieving his new name, Thita couldn''t do anything but pay attention to the so-called Zero. If he was saying the truth then he was about to reincarnate or something similar to a new word. As crazy as it sounded to him, he had to accept it. Life was strange after all, he knew that better than most. Seeing his concentration, Zero smiled once again and began speaking. "So let''s get started. First of all, you will be taken to new world as you are right now. Think of it as teleporting somewhere else." Thita nodded. "Secondly, the new world that you will be send isn''t the same as the one in which you lived. There are humans but there also other intelligent and non intelligent creature too. Just go with the flow and you should be fine. Furthermore, even if they speak different languages, you will understand them. In other words, to make it easier for you to understand, think of it as a blessing you will have thanks to me. Got it?" Thita nodded after recieving those informations. "Good. Another important information is that in your new world there will be a thing called magic. Think of it as the reason I am able to inflict my will to the world. Don''t worry though, you will probably never meet someone with as much power as me so you will be safe as long as you don''t do anything stupid. Also, you will be able to use magic too." Thita looked at him confused and spoke. "That''s kinda confusing. Will I be able to understand that just like the languages?" Zero laughed. "No, of course! Your brain would explode if I gave you such a blessing. Unfortunately, you can''t learn it like that. Don''t worry though, since you will be able to learn more about it in the world in which I will send you to." Thita nodded. Not like he could do anything else. "So, what else is there to say... Oh right! Since there is a chance you might not be able to use magic I will give you a little gift to give you at least an affinity to magic."This story has been taken without authorization. Report any sightings. "Gift?" Zero nodded. "That''s right! I thought about it beforehand so I will give you an ability so that you can have a bit more flexibility in escaping any unexpected situation. Think of it as a ''don''t die'' gift." "...Ok..." "Since I received such an amazing respond here is what your blessing will be. You will be able to teleport around!" Thita looked at him confused. "Oh yeah, by that I mean that you will be able to teleport to places that you have been before. Of course teleporting to a place will require magic energy or in short ''mana'' depending on distance and time. I will let you figure it out yourself, since I am not here to teach you but to give some important information." "I figured out that much." Thita said. "Good. So I don''t really think there is something else important to say. Just to let you know, you will transported by me next to a town in which humans live. I would advice to find a way to make money or something similar to survive and live comfortably or you can just wander around aimlessly. It''s up to you really. Also you will receive your blessings when you get teleported there. With them you will surely receive an affinity to magic too. I don''t really know what you will be able to do or which affinity you will have but I am sure it will be something useful for you." "That''s quite a lot of information to process." Thita said while having his hand on his forehead. "You may be right but it''s not like I can download them to your brain! Or, maybe I can, who knows? For now just try to figure out as much as you can when you get transported. After all, we will be parting ways any time soon" Thita looked at Zero with surprise. "Wait! Just like that?" Zero looked at him and grinned. "I am sorry that you won''t be able to look at someone as beautiful as me, but yeah. Just like that. I don''t really want to intervene much more with mortal affairs. After all, I have made quite the intervation by saying all those stuff and rescuing you. Well, it''s not like someone will have a complain but I like keeping my involvements to a minimum." Thita stared at him after hearing all the stuff Zero said. He didn''t knew what to make of his situation but it had to be quite rare. He would be given a second chance and he was kinda forced to take it. If he would be able to be happy thanks to it then it was a risk he was willing to take. Maybe, just maybe life was going to be a little less cruel to him. "So with that said time to get going Thita. It was fun meeting you." "I guess it was something similar for me to meet you too. I think.." Zero raised his hand and pointed at him with his finger. "Good luck. I hope you find what you seek in life this time." Thita was ready to reply, but suddenly he felt his body being sucked somewhere. Before he could notice, a gate appeared bellow the area in which he was floating and he was sucked in it with great force. And just like that he left the void. After leaving the void, Zero looked at the area in which Thita stood moments before with indifference. He then began floating somewhere else, his radiating figure pushing away the darkness of the void as if it was nothing. "I hope you do well, surviving in this shit world. I have high hopes for you after all. My eighth experiment." Chapter 4: Into a new world After what he thought was an enternitity Thita opened his eyes once again. It seemed that he was left unconscious, after being sucked into the portal. He couldn''t understand why that happened but he decided to ignore it for now since he had other problems to worry about. After all he had arrived, to a new world. After clearing his head and returning to reality he stood up and began looking around. It appeared that he was in some short of a forest. There were trees as far as the eye could see and the nature was all around him. One noticeable fact though was that the forest wasn''t anywhere near being dense and overgrown, stating the fact that there should be humans or other creatures that populated it and prevented it from growing too much. Furthermore, he noticed an area that was way more clearer nearby, as if it was some sort of path or road. He kept that in mind and continued looking around. There was all sort of trees nearby, some seemed to resemble trees that he already knew about, while there were others that he have never seen before. Spotting that, he decided to trust Zero and think of this place as a whole new planet, no matter how crazy it sounded. Of course, he still had some doubt that was warmly welcomed by him.. After all, he wasn''t used in trusting others. ''This place looks surprisingly peaceful. Let''s hope it stays like that.'' He hadn''t forgotten his past goal of ending his life but he decided to just ignore it and try his luck in this place. He had nothing to loose at this point anyways. While looking around he suddenly started hearing footsteps coming from far away. It appeared someone or something was walking along the path he noticed and was coming his way. Hearing the unexpected noice, Thita quickly moved away from the path and hid behind a bush trying to camouflage as much as he could with the surrounding nature. It was way too risky to be found while not knowing anything about this world. The footsteps started getting louder and louder, indicating that the source of the sound was getting closer. Thanks to that, Thita was able to identify the source since he could hear better and even see the source. A few steps further from his hiding spot, 3 people were running and came to a complete stop. Thita looked at them while trying not to make any sound. This story is posted elsewhere by the author. Help them out by reading the authentic version. As far as he could tell, the party appeared to consist of 2 males and a female. They also seemed to resemble humans. One was a man that seemed to be as young as 17 years old. He was tall and had yellow short hair. He also appeared to be carrying a long silver sword and his body was covered with a few scratches. The other one was far more muscular that the first and he seemed to be around 18. He had brown short hair and his body was also covered with scratches. Just a few more than the first one. The woman unlike the two men, didn''t appear to be covered in scratches and she didn''t carry any weapon, but she was as exhausted as the others. She was tall as the guys and she had long yellow hair. She also appeared to be 17. While examining them, the first guy spoke. "Ah... did we escape them?" Hearing his voice the other man spoke. "I can no longer hear them. Damn that was way to close." "Yeah... lucky us." Hearing the conversation between the two, the woman raised her head, cleary exhausted and spoke. "You call that luck!? We almost got killed!" "Yeah, but we didn''t." The second guy said. "That doesn''t mean anything! Why didn''t you guys do something?" She said. "What are you talking about Leslie? If we could, we wouldn''t have told you to escape." The second man responded. "Hey! Stop arguing guys! Both of you are right. We should have been more prepared. If you have to blame someone blame me for underestimating the difficulty of our quest!" The first guy said. Hearing his voice, Leslie spoke. "Hmph, don''t try to make swap our focus on you Alex. It''s the fault of all of us for coming unprepared." "I have to agree with you, don''t be so hard on yourself man. We are all at fault." The second guy said. "Especially Paul!" "Yeah, especially...!? How dare you!" Hearing his companions argue once again, Alex smiled and laughed a bit. Both of them looked at him, and stopped arguing as if his inocent laugh was charming enough to make them solve their differences. "Hey! Are you making fun of us" Leslie said. "No! Of course not! I just.." "Yeah man, no need to explain. Anyways, it''s not wise to stay in the middle of the forest, considering how much injured we are. Let''s head back to the town for now and we can continue our conversation there." Paul said. "I have to agree with him this time. Let''s head back." Hearing his companions, Alex smiled and started heading towards the town with them. Their footsteps started getting quieter and quieter until they couldn''t be heard anymore. At least from Thita. Thita who had stayed completely still, didn''t hurry to make a move until he confirmed that they had left. Standing up, he looked around once again and stretched his arms, to relieve the lack of movement. He couldn''t help but wonder what excactly has happened to them, fearing of being attacked by what had attacked them but he decided to just be as cautious as before. They seemed way too relaxed to be in real danger after all. Looking towards the direction they went, he decided to move from the spot he was and head towards their direction. After all, whatever had attacked them was still in this forest. Staying in it wasn''t an option. By taking a step forward, he started walking and headied towards the path. Following it, he wondered, where would he lead him to. Chapter 5: Successfully entering a civilization Following the path, Thita started thinking about a lot of stuff. His situation was starge in a lot of ways and it was normal to take time to adjust. At least, that was what he thought. Looking around the forest to make sure that there were no dangers, he wonder about what his future would be like. He didn''t have high expectations about it since he didn''t knew what to expect from this world, but he at least hoped that he would be able to be happy. The being called Zero told him that he might be able to find happiness, so he had to try his best. Try his best at what though? ''How does one find happiness again?'' He didn''t know. ''I just have to figure it out then. How hard can it be?...'' While following the path, he noticed that the forest was getting less dense. The number of trees started decreasing and there were tons of indications that there was human activity or something similar going on nearby. His guess turned out to be right since, moment later he noticed that the forest ended. Reaching closer to the last trees he saw it. There, some distance away from him, stood a town. Looking at it Thita started analyzing it. It was large in size. Probably large enough to house at least a thousand people. The most noticeable aspect of it though, was the large stone walls that surrounded it. Thita also noticed that there were guard posts on top of the walls in each corner. Furthermore the seemed to be one gate from his side and one more from the other. The town was also surrounded with farmlands outside the walls taking a large area of the plain land. Thita continued admiring the simplicity of it. The world that he had been teleported to seemed to be in an older era than his own in terms of evolution and inventions but that was welcomed by him. ''That makes things more simple I hope.'' Thita knew that it would be much more simple to adapt in living in an older era than in a more advanced one. Looking at the town once again. He saw the party that he had seen before in the forest. They seemed to be in the gate of the town, speaking with the guards that guarded it. After a few moments the guards moved aside from the gate letting them pass through and then they returned to their post, blocking the entrance once again.Stolen from its original source, this story is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings. ''Guards huh? That just makes things more complicated.'' Even though he was happy to see that if he entered, he would be protected. He didn''t knew if he would be able to enter in the first place. Sneaking in wasn''t a wise option and he didn''t want to spend the night outside the town''s walls either, so he had to find a way to enter. Looking towards the town once again, he sighted and started walking towards it''s direction. ''Looks like I will have to convince the guards to let me in. Worst case scenario, they don''t let me in or even attack me. I think I can manage escaping if it ends up to them attacking me. Still, let''s just hope that this doesn''t happen. Passing through the farmlands, the people who worked at them gave him a short glance but they quickly ignored him and continued with their work. ''Why you look at me like that? Do I stand out that much? Or maybe...'' Looking down and seeing his clothes, he understood. ''Yeah, maybe I do stand out with these out modern day clothes.'' He was right. He definitely stood out. Ignoring his thoughts, Thita continued walking hoping that the guards will just ignore the modern day clothes he wore and just let him in. Taking one more step forward he suddenly heard one the two guards who guarded the gate speak. "Stop!" After hearing him, he froze and stood in place. The voice was heard once again. "Who are you and what is your purpose here!?" The voice of one of the guards was heard again. It was a serious and cold voice. Not wanting to make the guard repeat himself, Thita responded. "My name is Thita." "What is your purpose here?" "I am on a journey and I came here to seek selter before I depart again." He couldn''t come up with something else so he just decided to play it safe and say something that should at least be an acceptable answer in most situations. The guard nodded. "Understood. You may enter the town as a temporary resident." After saying that he pointed his finger towards a direction bellow the gate. "Go to this guy and he will tell you what you need to do to enter. I would advice you not to try anything funny. Got it?" Thita nodded and entered the town without any resistance from thr guards. After doing so, he went to where the guard pointed and found a skinny looking man sitting in a wooden desk bellow the gate. The desk was also filled with papers. Raising his head, the man looked at Thita and spoke. "Name, gender and age please." Thita looked at him not expecting such a straightforward series of questions, but he responded. "Name is Thita, I am a male and I am 16." The man nodded and wrote to nearby paper. He then took a bronze badge from a nearby container and gave it to him. "This is proof that you are a resident of this town. It has all the information you provided on it and can also be used to perform registrations in several places or our town. I would advice you to always keep it with you, since without it, we will be forced to kick you out." Thita nodded and took it. Looking at it a question rose to his head. "I don''t see anything written to it though." The man looked at him and sighted. "It''s written to it through magic, that''s how it has been for the last 10 years. We no longer use the old fashioned badges." Hearing that a few more questions rose to his head but he decided not to ask. "Ah, yeah of course. Sorry for asking such a stupid question... So, can I enter now?" The man nodded and Thita began to walk away towards the town. He could hear the man matter a few words though. "These uneducated people. How can they not know something that simple? And they are supposed to be our future, goddammit!" Hearing that, Thita sighted. ''At least I am not the only one having trouble understanding.'' Looking at the bronze badge again, Thita decided to put it on one of his pants pocket. ''Let''s hope I don''t loose that, I don''t want to be kicked out after coming this far.'' Chapter 6: Employment has never been that easy After finishing the necessary procedure, Thita was finally able to to enter the town as a resident. Looking around, he took a short moment to admire the simplicity of the houses, that seemed to be a few eras older than those he was used to. He didn''t care about such details though and began walking around as soon as he entered. Minding his business, Thita walked through the streets trying to spot out anything interesting. Looking house after house, he couldn''t help but wonder about the place in which he will be living, at least for temporary. Money was also another issue since he obviously had none of this world currency, if it even had any. In other words, he needed a job desperately. ''So many houses and not even a store or at least a restaurant of some sort? Perhaps I should try to find to the center of this town. Its not that big anyways and I am sure that if there is any place to find a job, it''s definitely at the center of the town.'' Lost in his own thoughts, he was suddenly brought back to reality by an unexpected voice. "Um, excuse me sir?" Turning around Thita noticed a petite figure of a woman. Looking at her, he spoke. "Can I help you with anything?" "Yes actually. Are you new here?" Hearing her question, he answered honestly. "Yeah, I just came here a few moments ago." Hearing that, the woman spoke with excitement. "That''s great! Are you perhaps here to become an adventurer?" "Adventurer?" Hearing his question the woman spoke again. "That''s right! Are you perhaps here for joining the adventures guild?" Hearing that unfamiliar term, Thita wondered what it could be. "I am sorry but I am not familiar with this term since I am not from around here. Can you please explain to me what exactly is an adventures guild and an adventurer?" Hearing the question the woman looked confused but then she spoke again while trying to hide her confusion about this guy''s lack of knowledge. "Sure! In simple terms, adventurers are people who are part of the adventures guild, they are the ones responsible of helping around the town and dealing with problems in and out of the town. They also explore the surrounding wilderness and sometimes, they help with other activities around the town."Stolen content warning: this tale belongs on Royal Road. Report any occurrences elsewhere. Hearing the explanation, Thita nodded but the woman wasn''t done speaking. "Oh yeah, they are also getting paid handsomely, corresponding the diffuclt of the task they completed!" "I understand. So where can I sign?" Hearing such a straight forward answer, the woman was taken by surprise but was immediately filled with excitement. "The adventures guild is located almost in the center of the town! Just keep walking this way and you will find it!" "I see, thank you for informing me." "Sure, no problem at all! Just, if go and sign up, please write the name Emily in the spot for the one who recommended the guild to you. I would really appreciate it." Hearing that Thita nodded and took off. ''Well, that was quick. Just how much is she getting paid to recommended the guild to others?'' Ignoring the unimportant though, Thita continued walking towards the way she pointed trying to locate the building. *** After a while, Thita had arrived at the center of the town. Looking around, he noticed that almost all the roads led to it and there was a vast amount of people here. Even though the town was small, the center of it, seemed to be filled with activity for some reason. Deciding to ignore the unexpected large amount of people, he made his way towards a large building with a sign saying in large letters "ADVENTURE GUILD". Entering the building, he saw a large amount of people already inside. The inside of the building was filled with wooden chairs and tables and there was also some kind of bar/restaurant inside too. Furthermore there was a large signboard filled with papers pinned to it. Looking around he noticed an area that seemed to be a reception desk and he made his way towards it. Looking at it, he noticed a woman behind it, who after noticing him, she greeted him. "Welcome to the adventurers guild, how may I help you today?" Hearing her words he spoke. "I am here to sign up as an adventurer." "Happy to hear that, have you ever been a part of any adventurers guild before or is this the first time?" "No, this is my first time actually, so I don''t really know much about the procedures and how it works." After hearing it the woman nodded. "No problem at all, that''s what I am for! If you want to get signed, you just need to be tested in the department of magic and in department or raw strength. Of course if you have a gift of being able to use magic then the strength test can be skipped. Is all I said so far ok by you?" Hearing her simple explanation, Thita nodded. "I don''t have a problem with that." "Glad to hear that! Of corse you will also need to fill a small form to get accepted and have your town badge get updated but no need to worry, it''s doesn''t involve informations that you haven''t already shared when you entered the town." "I see, I don''t have a problem with that then. So, when will the test begin?" "It can be done right now, just follow me please." Thita nodded and waited for her to lead the way. Leaving the reception desk, the woman suddenly spoke. "Oh right! Before that." She suddenly turned around. "Clara, can you please fill up for me! I have to perform a mana test and perhaps a strength for a new member!" Hearing her words, a nearby staff woman spoke. "Yes, of course! Don''t worry and take you time!" "Thank you~" After waiting for her to finish, Thita began following her. After getting up a stair way and passing a small corridor, the woman opened a door and held it open for him to enter. Entering the room, Thita noticed that it was mostly empty except for a small see-through crystal which stood in the middle of the room on top of a pillar. "This is a mana crystal, usually dropped from monster but it is completely emptied of mana. All you need to do is touch it for 5 seconds and the crystal will absorb some of your mana. That way we will be able to tell your rank and type of magic. Also please don''t touch it for more than 5 seconds, so that we won''t get incorrect results." Hearing her explanation, Thita decided to nod even though he has a lot of questions and walked towards the center of the room. He then raised his hand and held it no more than 5 seconds. The crystal as if reacting to his touch, started glowing. The glow wasn''t that bright but it was at least something, proving that he was able to use magic. That wasn''t what surprised him though. The crystal smeed to have turneda bit... purple? Chapter 7: Becoming an adventurer The crystal seemed to has changed from a pale see-through crystal to bright purple color. Noticing the change, Thita couldn''t help but wonder how magic worked. He clearly felt something from inside him or outside him being sucked into the crystal but he couldn''t understand or even comprehend what it was. It was a strange feeling but it was welcomed by him. A bit of mystery was always something to be welcomed. Looking at the crystal once again, Thita turned around and glanced at the woman, who was also staring at the crystal with a bit of confusion. "So what does purple mean?" The woman stopped staring at the crystal and shifted her gaze towards Thita. She then spoke. "I am very sorry but this has never happened before. Usually the crystal turns into other more common colors with rare exceptions but we have never seen one turn purple." Thita looked at her confused. "Is this a bad thing?" "I am sorry but I cannot tell without the knowledge. The best I can do is to contact an expert in the next couple days. For now, all I can do is to add you as a mage with the corresponding level of your magic power. The crystal may have turned into an unexpected color but that doesn''t mean that it didn''t measure your mana level, so I will just write this information to your badge. I am truly sorry for not being able to provide you with more information." The woman said with an apologetic tone. "I understand, no need to apologize. I can wait a couple of days for it. I just want to know if I can become an adventurer in the meantime." "Of course! Since we have your level of magical power, you can become an adventurer right now! You will only be able to complete quests of your corresponding level though, unless you join a party!" "I see." ''Or maybe not.'' "Ah yeah that''s right! Sorry for not informing you sooner! You are a D rank mage!" "D rank?" "That''s right! If you don''t already know, there is a system with which we grade our adventurers, in both strength and magic. The ranks go in this order: E, D, C, B, A and S rank with the S rank being the highest and the E rank being the lowest!" ''I see, so I am in almost the lowest in terms of raw magical energy¡'' "Also, no need to worry if your magic rank didn''t achieve your expectations, since it''s not something that stays the same! Just like strengh, you can improve it!" "I see. Thanks for the information."Stolen from its rightful author, this tale is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings. ''Finally some good news!'' "You are welcome! So would like to take the physical test then!" "I am sorry but I will pass on that." "Very well. In that case please follow me!" Saying that Thita began to follow her taking one last glance in the crystal, wandering what the color was supposed to mean. After leaving the room, they walked a bit more in the hallway and entered another room, this one looking more like an office. After entering it, the adventurers guild staff lady walked towards a desk and picked up a paper. She then placed it on top of the desk, pointed it to Thita and said. "This is a contract that you need to fill and sign to officially enter the guild! Please read it carefully and answer at least the necessary questions!" Taking a sit, Thita sighed and began reading and later filling the contract. The questions were simple such as name and age. The contract on the hand, seemed to mostly be in order to warn the adventurers that any injury during quests wasn''t the guilds fault and other stuff like that. After answering the necessary questions and even adding the name of the one who recommended the guild to him, he handed it to the woman. After taking a short look at it the woman nodded and said. "That will do! Welcome to the guild um¡ Thi-ta!" Extending her hand for a handshake, Thita raised his do and they performed a handshake. "Thanks you for having me." "Name is Cass! So can you please give me your badge for a bit?" Thita nodded and gave her the badge. "Please, wait here for a bit." Saying that the woman left the office and returned after a short moment, now holding a purple colored badge with the letter D on it. She then gave it to him. "Here! You are now officially an adventurer! Congratulations!" Hearing the praise Thita replied with a simple "thank you" and took his badge. "You can now go and complete quests either alone or join a party and complete quests together! You can find the quests and information related to the them on the signboard! If you have any other questions, fell free to ask me at the reception desk!" Hearing her energetic explanations, Thita nodded. "Thank you for the help. So, when can I begin?" "Any time you want! Just go to the main lobby you saw when you entered, pick up a quest and talk to me to officially begin it!" After finishing with the explanations, Thita and the staff, both left the room and went in the main lobby. She returned to the reception desk and he decided to go and look in the signboard to understand what kind quests were there. Looking at it for some time, he understood some important information. There seemed to be different kind of quests. Some were for inside the town and mostly seemed to be about helping with chores and other non combat activities. These were also accessible to all ranks and gave very small rewards. On the other hand, there seemed to be others for outside the town. Some were the same as the inside ones and had to do with helping some farmers, while others sommed to be more dangerous. It seemed strange but there were quests about killing certain animals and ''monsters'' in some areas outside the town and there was even a note that said "You can bring the bodies of those animals or the ''crystals they dropped'' for extra cash". Looking at some of the names of those monster and animals, Thita could tell that he was not in earth, since a lot of them didn''t exist in his planet, especially the moster category. While minding his business and looked at the quests, he felt as if someone had touched his shoulder. Feeling that, he turned around to look who did. Looking at the person''s face, he couldn''t help but be surprised. It was¡ Chapter 8: Perhaps teamwork is the best option Looking at the person standing in front of him, Thita got a bit surprised even though, his face didn''t show it. ''What are the chances? Or perhaps, I should have expected to meet one of those 3 here.'' His surprise was to be expected. After all, right in front of him, stood Alex, one of the three adventurers he saw as soon as he got teleported in this world. ''Perhaps, he noticed me peeking on him and his party before. So, did he came here to confront me about it?'' He wasn''t sure to why that person came directly to him as soon as he finished getting signed into the guild, but it looked like he was about to find out. After all, the other party started speaking. "Hey there buddy. Are you perhaps new here?" Alex said with a kind tone, as if speaking to a close friend. Sensing his calm and kind tone, Thita answered to him with indifference. "That''s right. I came to this town a few moments ago." Hearing him, Alex spoke once again, but this time with a more excited tone. "That''s perfect! Are you perhaps thinking of joining someone''s party to clear some quests with them?" Hearing his excited tone, Thita couldn''t help but wonder. ''I don''t remember mentioning that I am an adventurer. Or actually, never mind. It''s pretty obvious considering that I am looking at the quests right now.'' Not wanting to make the other party wait, he answered. "I am sorry but I am not familiar with how parties work. I was just looking for some quests that I could do." Hearing him, Alex spoke once again. "Oh, no need to apologize! It''s my fault for asking you out of the blue like that. You see, me and my party are looking for one more member to help us with a combat related quest. So, I just came here to ask you, if you would like to help us fill that spot." After finishing him sentence, Alex hurriedly spoke again. "Of course, you have every right to refuse! Especially considering the difficulty of our quest. I.. I won''t judge you or anything."Love what you''re reading? Discover and support the author on the platform they originally published on. Letting him finish, Thita responded with a calm tone. "I see. Can I take a look at the quest you and your party will do?" Hearing him, Alex responded. "Ah, yes of course! Excuse me for not showing it to you before." Taking a piece of paper that was tied to his belt, Alex handed it to Thita. Looking at it, Thita started reading it, as if he knew all this time how to read in this new language. ''Slay a pack of wolves that reside in an area close to town. This quest doesn''t seem too difficult, if you have four well equipped people. Perhaps I should accept it.'' He also couldn''t help but notice, that the quests specifically required that the wolves were slain and not just driven away from the area. He also noticed that it was a C rank quest, so it shouldn''t be that dangerous for 4 people. He didn''t knew though, how this world''s wolves were like or even how difficult a C rank quest was supposed to be, so he decided not to take it as something easy just to be safe. "So you want me to help you and your party to slay the pack of wolves?" Hearing him speak, Alex answered. "That''s right! We have already tried, me and my other two party members, to complete it, but we failed." Alex said defeated. "There were more than we expected and we were at risk of being surrounded, so we had to flee. This time though, we know their numbers and if we have one more member in our team, we will remain undefeated for sure!" Hearing him saying that, Thita started trying to figure out wherever to accept or not. ''Looking at the reward again, it''s way more than any non combat quest. But how much of it will I be given though?'' As if guessing his thoughts, Alex spoke. "If it''s about money, we will let you exchange any of the bodies you kill. We will also split the quests reward between us four equally!" After hearing his kind and generous deal, Thita came to a conclusion. ''I still don''t know much about how this world''s economy works, so it would be better to earn as much money as I can for now, just be to be safe. Since I can only complete low rewarding quests alone, this is perhaps my only change to secure a huge amount of cash to start my life from scratch. I should take it. Yes, that should be the right choise.'' Sure there might have been other things to consider before taking that decision, but he needed money as fast as possible. "I understand. In that case, I am willing to help you and your team fill that spot." Hearing him, Alex smiled. "That''s perfect! So, can you please follow me so that I can discuss it with the others too?" Hearing him saying that, Thita nodded. ''I see. So it''s not guaranteed that they will let me participate.'' Following him, Thita and Alex made their way towards a table close to one of the corners of the guild. Seeing them approaching, two familiar faces stood up from their chairs. "Alex my guy, did you find anyone willing to help us?" Hearing the man speak to him, Alex responded. "Yes I found one! Paul, Leslie, I want you to meet our newest member for this quest. His name is.. uh." Hearing him unable to finish his sentence, Thita spoke. "Excuse me for not introducing myself beforehand. My name is Thita. Thank you for having me." Hearing his formal introduction, Paul spoke. "That''s an interesting name you got there fella. You are not from around here, aren''t you?" Hearing that, Ghita responded. "That''s right. I traveled quite a distance before reaching this town. This is actually my first day here." Hearing him, Paul spoke with amazement. "In that case you must be quite the fighter to come here all by yourself. Alex my friend, you sure did find a great member!" After hearing that, Alex smiled innocently, while Thita, on the other hand sighted. ''Great, now I also have to try not to look inexperienced. I really need to figure out better lies...'' Chapter 9: A discussion between friends After finishing with the introductions, Thita and the other three sat on the chars near the table to properly discuss the details of their mission. After an awkward moment of silence between the party, the silence ended up being broken by Leslie. Looking towards Thita, she spoke. "So, will you share with us what rank you are?" Hearing her, Thita responded. "I am a D rank in terms of magic." Hearing such a straightforward answer, Paul spoke to Thita with amazement. "A D rank? You must be quite talented then to be all by yourself." "No actually, I don''t really know how to use magic yet. Also, I am sorry for saying that this late, but I didn''t come here alone. I just managed to find a group of people who would got towards this town. I am really not as special as you think." Even though he could lie and have higher chances of them letting him participate in the quest, Thita decided to create another, less troublesome lie. Trying to live up to this guy''s expectation wouldn''t be easy to achieve either way, so this way it was probably better. At least, that''s what he hoped. Hearing his apology, Paul laughed and spoke. "No need to apologize my friend! It''s my fault for making such assumptions! We don''t need a strong member either way, just a guy who can give a decent fight will do!" "Wait! Didn''t we agree on inviting someone more experienced in combat?" "There is no need to go that far Leslie! Just by looking at this guy, I can tell that he can stand his ground just fine. Me and Alex will be handling most of the combat after all!" "But, don''t we need at least someone with experience in fighting? What if we get surrounded once again? We need to be ready to defend from all sides!" "I can fight." Hearing his voice, the two of them and Alex turned their head to face them. Listening to their conversation, Thita decided that this was perhaps a good time to speak from his side. Coming this far, just be dismissed from the party wasn''t a very beneficial after all. "See Leslie!" Ignoring Paul''s words, Leslie faced Thita and spoke. "But didn''t you say that you can''t use magic? How can a mage who can''t use magic fight?"The narrative has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident. Hearing her worlds, Thita spoke with confidence. "I may not be able to use magic yet, but I am at least decent in fighting." "And with what do you fight with? I don''t see you carring any sword or bow." Hearing the question, Thita sighted. He didn''t wanted to have to show this so soon but he had to, in order to convince her. "I am more experienced with using this." Putting his hand in one of his pockets, he took out a black colored pocket knife. Usually showing such a weapon in his world might cause a commotion, but here seemed that weapons were a usual thing to carry around. After showing it to the other three, they all stared at it with surprised looks. "That''s... are you sure that this is suited for combat?" Leslie said. "Leslie, don''t you get it?" Hearing Paul''s words, Leslie frowned. "Get what?" "Uh, so you don''t. Then, have you ever heard the word assassin?" Hearing those words, Leslie spoke with astonishment. "Oh yeah! You mean those people with black clothes that backstab people, right?" "Um, I suppose you could say it like that, even though it is a bit outdated." "Outdated?" "That''s right! Even though most people know assasins like that, most of them are adventurers just like us. So instead of attacking people, most of them attack monsters and animals." Paul said with confidence. "Is that so huh?" Hearing their conversation and not wanting to be overestimated again, Thita spoke. "I am sorry, but I am not an assassin. I am just more familiar with close combat." "That''s a bit of a disappointment, I really wanted to meet one for a long time. But as long as you can fight, that''s all we need." Paul said. "So, are you sure that you can handle, you know, killing the wolves that we will fight against?" Alex, who hasn''t spoked so far, said with a caring and concerning tone. As if, he himself has been in Thita''s position once. "If it''s about killing and seeing blood, I can handle it." Hearing his response, Alex felt reassured. "I believe that settles it then! Welcome to our party Thita!" Saying that, Paul stood up and placed his hand on Thita''s shoulder. "Wait a minute Paul! We haven''t even discussed the details about the quest with him." "You and your details again. You see Thita, this little girl over there is our party''s healer, as crazy as it sounds. If you ever have trouble hearing her long talks, you just have to walk away. Trust me, it works every time!" "How dare you, you muscle for brains as-!" "Leslie, Paul! Please, not in front if our new member! Paul, Leslie is right. I also do belive that we should share whatever information about the mission we have with our new member. It would be unfair to not inform him. So please, don''t speak about Leslie like that." Hearing his words, Paul sighted. "Whatever you say Alex. You two say whatever is needed to be said then. When you are done, you can find me in the training ground. I want to do some stretches before we leave." Saying that, Paul left. After leaving, Alex turned his head to face Thita and spoke with an apologetic tone. "I am sorry for that. He tends to act up sometimes. I hope you can forgive him." "It''s alright, I don''t really mind." Hearing that, Alex felt reassured once again. "So, now that the overgrown child left, let''s get to the important details." Leslie said nonchalantly, now that Paul was gone. She then proceeded to explain to Thita, what they would expect to face. The number of wolves, the terain and even the formation that the wolves used to attack them. She then explained how they should approache them and other important information, to the point that even Thita couldn''t help but be amazed with how much though, she had put to it. "I belive that''s all. Any questions?" Thita though and then responed. "No, I belive that this is a solid plan." Alex too didn''t have any questions and responded in a similar way. Hearing their answers, Leslie smiled. "Then, let''s get going. We have to pick Paul from the playground, or he might get hurt before the mission even started." Chapter 10: First blood Outside of the town walls, the party now consisting of 4 people, made their way through the forest, in order to reach the location of their quest. Getting further and further into the forest, Alex ended up being the one who broke the silence. "Excuse me for asking this late, but what type of magic do you have affinity for Thita?" Hearing his question, Leslie also spoke with a curious tone. "Oh right! I also do have the same question. I am a bit knowledgeable in magic myself, so maybe I can help you after the quest to learn how to use it." Hearing both of them, Thita decided not to hide it and answer with honesty. There was nothing to lose with sharing and maybe he could receive some help in exchange hopefully. "I don''t really know what type of magic I can use to be honest. When I was tested, the crystal that I had to touch, ended up turning purple. I am not sure what this means and even the staff of the adventurer''s guild couldn''t tell. All I know, is that I am a D rank in terms of magic." Hearing him, a thoughtful expression took over Leslie''s face. "Purple huh? I also have no idea what this means. Maybe you have an affinity in a unique type of magic." "Unique type of magic?" Alex asked with a surprised face. "Yeah, there are mages who can use extremely rare types of magic. Also, most of these affinities are extremely powerful and they can surprise their opponents, since they don''t know what their enemy is capable of. In exchange though, most of them are extremely hard to learn, since you can rarely find someone to teach you how to use them." Hearing her, Thita decided to ask just in case. "So, how do they learn how to use it without a teacher?" Hearing the question, Leslie responded casually. "Well, most types of magic tend to share similarities with other types. So, you can just learn how similar types of magic works and try to mimic them with your own. At least, that''s what I have read in a book, written by a famous magic teacher." ''I see. That would be troublesome then.''If you come across this story on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen from Royal Road. Please report it. No moment after Leslie finished her sentence, she ended up hitting on Paul''s back, who has stopped walking for some reason. "What the heck Paul! Why did you stop all of a sudden!?" Hearing her complains, Paul responded with a serious tone. "We are surrounded." "What!?" "The wolves. They have surrounded us." "When? Wait, how can you tell!?" Hearing Leslie''s questions, Paul responded with seriousness. "We have been too reckless. While you three were talking, the wolves ended up surrounding us. I should have warned you before but now it is too late. We are surrounded. Everyone! Battle formation now!" No moment after Paul shouted, wolf like figures started emerging from behind the trees. In no time, no more than 20 wolves ended up appearing all around them. They were smaller than those Thita knew about but no less deadly. Saliva was dropping from their open mouths and their sharp teeth were shown as a way to warn the prey about how deadly they were. The wolves weren''t the only ones who moved though. The party had already moved to their battle formation, with Leslie in the middle and Alex with Paul facing the sides with the most wolves. Thita too, got in his position, ready to defend from a side with less but still a huge number of them. As if both opposing sides had came to an agreement beforehand, both of them began moving at the exact same time, ready to tear their enemies apart. Launching towards them the wolves started attacking Paul and Alex with fury in their eyes, ready to defend their territory from unwanted intruders. In order to respond, Alex and Paul took out their swords and started defending their attacks with skillful swordmanship. Being torn by their fangs was inevitable, due the large number of opponents. That didn''t stop them though from claiming the lives of as many wolves as they could in the process. The moment one of the wolves made a mistake, it paid by getting extremely injured or even with it''s life. Even though they were more, they were loosing. Leslie like then, also had an important role. Every time one of them got injured, she began using healing magic in order to heal their injuries. That too was dangerous in its own way, since she needed to touch or at least be close to the injury that the person sustained, in order for her to heal it, which was extremely hard in the middle of a battle. She still managed though. On the other hand, Thita had to fight his own share of wolves as well. Grabbing his pocket knife, he waited patiently for the opponent to attack. He needed the opponent to get close in order to use such a short ranged weapon after all. He didn''t had to wait for long though, since no less than a second before the others got attacked, one of the wolves launched at him. With a skillful maneuver, Thita moved aside from the launching wolf and quickly stabbed him with his knife on one of it''s sides. Moving his body against the wolf''s direction, he moved his hand with the knife, slicing as much of the opponents body as he could before it landed. His strategy ended up working, since the wolf landed on the ground like a ragdoll with blood flowing like a river from his side. Even though he won, Thita still had four more to defeat. That didn''t stopped him from getting confused right after his first kill. ''That wolf, his bones were far to weak. It''s like they didn''t give any resistance at all. Are all the animals in this world like that?'' That thought though, ended up costing him severely, since the wolves got the opportunity and surrounded him. ''That, might be a bit troublesome...'' Chapter 11: At least they are animals Not focusing during a batte was a grave mistake and Thita has done just that. As a result, he ended up surrounded by four wolves, each one of them growling at him for killing their comrand. ''Being smart exchange for being weak, that might be troublesome.'' A strong oponent equaled trouble, but a smart one equaled even more trouble. At least that was Thita''s belief. In his position, Thita could only keep an eye on three of them at most, leaving one of them outside of his vision and with the advantage of attacking him from the back. ''The others seem too ocupied to give me a hand. Looks like it''s just me then. Let''s try to keep the injuries low.'' Not a moment later after he thought that, he suddenly turned around, as if to predict a surprise attack. His gamble ended up paying off, since the wolf behind him was already in motion the moment he turned around. Despite it''s surprise by the prey''s sudden reaction, the wolf continued his attack opening it''s jaws and jumping towards him, without a hint of fear. It''s attack, didn''t last long though, since moments later, Thita pierced it''s skull from the side, with one swift motion. Recieving the hit, the wolf''s eyes turned lifeless and it fell to the ground, never to stand up again. It''s efforts weren''t in vain though, since moments after it''s death, Thita felt a sharp pain on his other hand. It seemed that one of the wolfves had taken the opportunity and managed to dig it''s teeth in Thita''s arm. Trying to igore the pain, Thita moved his hand which held the knife and with a swift motion, he pierced the wolf''s head from above. As a result, the knife pierced it''s skull with ease and killed it on the spot. Loosing it''s life, the wolf lost it''s grip on Thita''s hand and fell like a ragdoll towards the ground, joining his fallen allies. ''That makes it three. Two more remain.'' Looking towards the last two wolves, Thita tried to ignore the pain on his left hand. The wolves weren''t any better though, since their opponent had already killed most of them, without suffering many injuries. That didn''t stop them though from continuing. Without showing a hint of fear, one of them launched at him with fury in it''s eyes, ready to bite him as hard as it could. In exchange, Thita skilfully dodged the attack and stabbed the wolf''s throat, leaving it to die a few moments after it landed.Stolen from Royal Road, this story should be reported if encountered on Amazon. The last wolf, as if acknowledging what kind of fate it awaited it if it stayed, turned around and started running in fear. That wasn''t enough though. Noticing the wolf''s reaction, Thita''s grip on his knife tightened and with one skillful swing, he launched it toward the wolf. His throw didn''t miss and it landed directly on the fleeing wolf''s head, ultimately killing it. ''That should be the last from my side.'' Looking at himself once again, Thita couldn''t help but notice all the blood that covered his clothes. It wasn''t a lot, considering the amount of blood, that was flowing from his opponents. Still, bloon was blood and he was covered by it. ''To think that I would see blood so fast after arriving here. A least, this time it belongs to animals.'' Trying to shake off those thoughts, Thita decided to look on how the others were doing now that he was done. Turning his head to look behind him, something close to him moved. His opponents weren''t all dead yet. *** On the other side of the battlefield, Paul and Alex fought the wolves alongside each other. Even though they were two and also had someone to heal them, they had to fight triple the opponent the Thita fought. That didn''t stopp their teamwork though and one after the other, they slaughter as many wolves as they could, bring their opponents number lower and lower. Unlike Thita, both of them had long sword and as result, they could fight in longer range. Thanks to that, they received very few injuries and their opponents couldn''t reach them without getting cut themselves. As Leslie continued healing both Paul and Alex when they got injured, she couldn''t help but glance behind her. It was a risky move to do in the middle of a battle, but she couldn''t help but want to see how Thita was doing. He was a new member after all and unlike Paul and Alex, she knew almost nothing about him. So leaving him all alone for so long might have resulted in him getting injured or even worse. Thita''s job was to keep the wolves from behind occupied, until they could finish with the rest. Of course, he could as well kill them if he could, since that would be even more beneficial for the party. She didn''t have such expectations for a new member though. Turning around with a worried expression, she couldn''t help but be surprised. The wolves that Thita was supposed to keep occupied, they were all dead. Not able to believe in her eyes, Leslie felt shocked by Thita''s performance. That shock didn''t last long though, since no matter how hard she looked, she couldn''t spot Thita anywhere. Desperately looking around, trying to locate him with a hurried movement, she spotted him. A few meters away from the path, Thita could be seen lying below a tree. He wasn''t alone though. ''That''s... That''s a...'' She was unable to think properly, as if she was witnessing something beyond comprehension. She wasn''t wrong to feel like that though. After all, just above Thita''s head was a head of a wolf, it''s sharps teeth a few centimeters away from his face. The wolf''s head was moving uncontrollably, trying to bite Thita''s face as hard as it could. It''s mouth opening and closing, with saliva dripping from it every time it did. It''s claws were also moving like crazy, trying to scratch Thita as hard as they could, succeeding from time to time. Thita on the other hand, ignoring the pain as hard as he could, was trying to keep the wolf as far away as possible from his body. Using his hands as a barrier, he tried to push the wolf as far away as he could, in order to have a chance to escape from it. Seeing the scene unfold in front of her, Leslie couldn''t help but be extremely worried. ''That''s a pack leader. To think that such a beast was hiding among the pack. I have to warn the others and hurry to Thita as fast as possible. Please, hang on Thita, just a bit more!'' Thita couldn''t hear her thought, he just desperately tried to shake the huge wolf off him. Chapter 12: I didnt sign up for this Thita cursed inside him, trying to get the wolf off him as hard as he could. He had already received plenty of scratches from the wolf''s attacks, which only made it more difficult for him to flee. ''Just one second. I turn my back for one second and this happens!? Just how much more unlucky I have to be?'' It was true that the world always tended to be harsh on him, but at this point, he couldn''t help but be mad for this unfairness. He couldn''t spend more time to think about such trivial matters though. He had to do something about his situation and fast. The wolf had attacked him from behind the moment he decided to look towards his party, as if it was waiting for a chance to sneak up on him. To make matters worse, unlike the other wolves, this one was a lot bigger in size. Even a bit bigger than those Thita knew in his previous world. Because of that, Thita struggled to shake it off. Moeover, with his knife being still stuck on top of the head of the wolf he killed before, he had no weapon in his disposal. Meanwhile the wolf kept scratching Thita with all its might, trying to reach his head as hard as it could despite Thita''s hand barrier. In response, Thita kept his hands locked and the wolf as far as he could from his face. ''Didn''t you get bored already bastard? Let''s see how you like being in pain!'' Without a second though, Thita raised his knee and hit the wolf''s groin his all his might. The wolf eyes widened the moment it recieved the hit, stopping it''s movements momentarily as the pain kicked in. Taking that chance, Thita pushed it with all his might, with his arms still on it''s neck. The wolf, unable to resist in time, got pushed back and ended up on the ground, it''s front facing upwards and Thita on top of it with his arms still on it''s neck. ''Let''s see how you do in my place bastard!'' Not wasting a second, Thita shifted his arms. Now with his hands being the ones touching the wolf''s neck. Finishing his changes, Thita then pressed down on it''s neck with as much pressure as possible, while also tightening his grip on it''s neck. In exchange, not being able to breath, the wolf started struggling, moving his limbs uncontrollably and with as much power as it could, scratching and hitting Thita as much as it could. It''s effort were in vain though, since that didn''t stop Thita in the least. In a few seconds, the wolf stopped struggling, it''s eyes becoming lifeless and it''s previous fury turning into nothing. It was dead. Seeing his opponent dead, Thita removed his hands and tried to regain his breath. ''I.. I didn''t sign up for this shit.'' At least, he had won at last.Royal Road is the home of this novel. Both Paul and Alex had heard what was going on behind their backs from Leslie so they couldn''t rest just yet. The battle wasn''t over. Running towards Thita''s location with worried expressions, they finally reached the place where Leslie last saw him. What they saw though when they reached him, was nothing alike to what they expected. Thita sat there silently, on top of the fallen pack leader''s body with a calm expression filled with injuries. He looked tired though and in pain, but his eyes were still serious, as if he didn''t wanted to let his guard down again. Unlike Thita though, the pack leader''s body was in a worse state, with it''s neck covered in blood. It''s neck wasn''t the only part of it''s body which was covered in blood, since the wolf appeared to also be bleeding from the area it''s heart was supposed to be, as if it was stabbed with a sharp object later. Witnessing the horrifying sight, the three of them couldn''t help but shiver with how terrifying their newest party member was. Not wanting to keep the deadly silence continue, Alex ended up being the one to break it. "Thita.. Are you... are you okay?" His tone sounded full of concern, but there seemed a bit of fear hidden on it. Hearing him, Thita took a moment before answering. "Not in the slightest." His tone indicated exhaustion, but Alex couldn''t help but feel like there was more to it. Not a moment after he said that though, Leslie rushed towards him with a hurried and concerning look on her face. Getting closer to him, she got on her knees and placed her hand on Thita''s stomach. "Please stay still! You need to be healed immediately or this can be extremely fatal!" Hearing her, Thita didn''t move and let her do as she pleased. He had no reason to resist anyways. Moment after Leslie placed her hands on Thita''s wounds, a soft green light appeared on her hands and the wounds she touched, started closing with a slow steady pace. *** Feeling and seeing his wounds closing, Thita couldn''t help but be amazed with just how fast such severe wounds started healing. It was a truly fascinating thing to witness, especially for him. ''So this is magic. How curious.'' Feeling the warm sensation run though his body, he felt at peace, as if everything that happened moments ago was just nothing more than a bad memory. "So Thita, what happened?" Being brought back to reality by Paul''s question, he answered nonchalantly. "I was fighting the wolves that attacked us from behind until this big one attacked me from behind. Still, somehow I managed to kill it with a bit of luck." This was of course a very short answer compared to what happened, but he didn''t wanted to spend a lot of time explaining. It would waste time and he didn''t trust them enough yet. On the other hand, hearing Thita''s answer, Paul sighted and spoke. "You are truly impressive my friend. Killing a pack leader on our first hunt and all by yourself? I really need to get stronger or I might get left behind in the dust with newbies like you." "Enough talk Paul! He is too injured to have to deal with your pointless talking!" Leslie said to Paul with a serious tone. She then averted her gaze and looked at Thita. "Here, I have healed you the best I could. Still, you need to rest for some time before you can take another combat mission." Leslie said with concern as she stood up. She looked exhausted though, as if healing him caused her to her tired. ''Looks like there is a price you have to pay for using magic. That''s a relief.'' Still, he nodded after hearing Leslie. He wasn''t planning to start another combat quest any time soon anyways so resting was a good option. Getting her reassurance, Leslie felt relieved. Turing to face the other two, she spoke excitedly. "With that out of the way then, I believe that we have cleared out mission just fine. Let''s pick up as many bodies as we can every--......!" Her sentence was never finished though. With a loud gasp, Leslie fell with force on the ground close to where Thita was sitting. Her eyes were now lifeless though and her a bit of blood was flowing from her forehead, as she faced the sky. She was dead, with the end of an arrow being visible on her forehead. That wasn''t all though. For some reason, it was as if ice was spreading through the wound. Chapter 12: Never let your guard down It all happened too quickly for anyone to react. One moment, Leslie was speaking to everyone with excitement ignoring her exhaustion and the other she was laying on the floor dead. As the ice kept on spreading through her wound, everyone''s eyes widened as their brains finally caught up to the sudden turn of events. "Leslieee!" Paul shoughted with all his might with horror and a hurried look on his face, rushing towards Leslie''s motionless body. Kneeling down to reach her face, he touched it with his shaking hands, unable to do something about it. On the other hand, Alex stood there motionlessly with a horrified expression, unable to process what just happened and not knowing how to react. Meanwhile, Paul kept screaming her name, shouting as hard as he could as if expecting a miracle to happen. This was reality though, in which miracles never happened. Unable to do anything to save her, Paul ignored everything around him and continued to mourn his friend with tears rolling down his eyes. This was a mistake though, since moments later, he ended up meeting the same fate. Ignoring everything ended up backstabbing him, since with his guard down, he was defenseless. For that reason, he ended up being shot with an arrow too. This time it came from the side though and it hit his head perfectly. Recieving the hit, Paul''s eyes widened but only for a moment before becoming lifeless. His body rolled to the ground and laid next to Leslie, with ice forming around the wound on his head. He was dead, just like his friend. Witnessing the scene unfold right in front of him, Alex felt his grip on his sword loosen. His hands was shaking and emotions such as fear, horror and despair took control over him. "Paul....Lesl..." He couldn''t speak properly, his voice was filled with horror and his brain couldn''t process what just happened. Placing his shaking hands on his hair, he started shaking his head and whispering the word ''no'' over and over again, as if this was the only word he could say. Still, just like the other two, he had left his guard down. A mistake that he had to pay just like his friends. Sure, another arrow launched too towards him, this one coming from the same direction that the one that hit Leslie came. It''s path, leading directly towards Alex head from the back. This time though, it didn''t hit his head. Alex ended up escaping just in time. Laying on the ground, Alex was shocked to see Thita right above him, with his hands placed on his shoulder. That shock wasn''t enough to dismiss his previous feeling though. This story originates from Royal Road. Ensure the author gets the support they deserve by reading it there. "Get a grip of yourself! Your friends may have been shot but that doesn''t mean it is over! So stand up and take action or your friends died for nothing!" Being brought back to reality by Thita''s harsh words, Alex gritted his teeth and tried to control his feelings. Thita was right, it wasn''t over yet. He had to prove that his friends didn''t die for nothing by living himself. He had to remain strong. *** Unlike Alex, Thita seemed to be much more capable in handling such a sudden situation. As if he was used to it. Still, he was unable to save neither Leslie or Paul. He was unable to predict the attack and he was unable to save them. He managed to save Alex though. At least that was something. Still, that didn''t change their situation though. Standing up, Thita took a moment to concentrate and come up with a plan, without letting his guard down. ''The arrows came from two different directions, so there are at least two enemies. Judging by from where the two arrows came, I belive that I can locate the two of them unless they moved. Who should I attack though?'' Attacking from a distance someone with a ranged weapon wouldn''t be a smart move but Thita had to try. He could just run away of course but that wouldn''t be beneficial for him. He needed money to survive and if he left, all this time and injuries would be for nothing. He had to give it a try. He had nothing to lose at this point anyways. With a sudden movement, Thita began running towards the location of the first enemy. This enemy was the one that fired last, so he had to be reloading, which would give him a better chance to attack. Running as fast as he could, he suddenly lowered his head as if to predict an attack. Surely, an arrow passed right above him, missing him just in time. ''You are too predictable, aiming for the head all this time.'' He didn''t stop though and he continued running getting closer and closer to his destination. Suddenly, he saw something move a bit further from him. Understanding, Thita sidestepped and dodged the arrow that came his way with ease. He didn''t stop though and continued running, getting closer and closer. On the other hand, he saw the figure in front of him move once again, this time though, it didn''t draw another arrow. It turned around with hurry and began running the other way. Noticing the opponents movement, Thita ran with even more determination. He had a chance. After all, it seemed that the opponent didn''t seem to want to fight in close combat. Getting closer and closer due to his speed, he managed to get a closer to look to the enemy. He had a human appearance and he seemed to wear some kind of robe. Still that was all he could tell since his whole back was covered including his head. Understanding that his opponent was probably a human, he run with even more determination. If there was one thing he hated, was those that killed without a reason and the enemy didn''t appear to have a good enough reason. The enemy was now a few meters away and it looked like he could react him at any moment. Grabbing his knife that he retrieved from the wolf''s body, he prepared to launch it to the enemy. Gripping it tightly, he threw it towards the enemy and with one swift motion, it landed directly on one of the enemy''s legs. The enemy in exchange, stumbled and fell to the ground the moment the knife landed. He seemed to be in pain and unable to move. That didn''t stop running though and moments later, he made a circle around the enemy and got behind him. The enemy meanwhile stayed on the ground, grapping his injured and bleeding leg with his hands. He also appeared to be... crying? Thita didn''t care about that though. He had killed one person and almost killed another one. He was in no position to cry. Getting on his knees behind the enemy, Thita grabbed his hood and removed it. What he saw surprised. The murder of his party members was... a girl? Grabbing her leg and crying the girl with silver hair turned her head around and looked at Thita with fear and horror. She appeared to be in pain. Looking at him, she managed to speak with a weak and scared voice besides her injuries. "Please... don''t... don''t kill me." Chapter 13: Never judge a book by its cover Looking at the girl, Thita was unable to think straight. On one hand, she was the one killed Leslie and almost killed Alex. On the other hand though, she was a girl probably around 17 years old. She had silver hair and for some reason, long pointy ears, which was new to Thita, since no one he had even met had such ears. ''Is she perhaps a different species as Zero had said? No, that''s not what matters right now. She is a killer. She killed without a reason. But she is also a girl.'' Thita was in deep though. He had to figure out what would be the best course of action and fast. There was at least one more enemy and they might arrive any moment now. ''No. Her gender, her appearance. I shouldn''t judge based on those. She killed two people with her own free will. That''s what matters. I should proceed based on that. I should think based on that. Other trivial matters mustn''t be taken into account. Yes. That should be it.'' Coming into a conclusion, Thita looked straight into her eyes and spoke with coldness, without revealing any hint of sympathy. "Why? Why did you kill her?" Recieving such a cold respond and still in pain, the girl shivered with fear. She didn''t dare to not respond though. "I.. Because she was... she was a human..." Hearing such an answer, Thita couldn''t help but be confused even though he didn''t show it. "And you killed her. Because of that?" Thita''s tone was cold, not revealing any emotions. He hoped that at least there was more to it. Killing someone because of what they are, was unacceptable. Something he couldn''t forgive. Hearing such a cold question, the girl felt even more terrified to the point that tears started rolling down her eyes. "No! I killed her because... because people like her are the ones that.. that kill our kind. Because all of us suffer... because of humans!" She found it hard to speak in her condition but she still spoke. Her life was on the line and the human close to her didn''t seem to let her go that easily. She had to try to convince him. She didn''t want to die. Hearing her weak voice, Thita couldn''t help but be troubled. The situation had became even more complicated. ''This is troublesome. If what she is saying is the truth, then she had a reason to act hostile against us. That doesn''t cover the fact that she and her allies killed my party members but I can''t kill her because of that. I will not become that kind of person. I mustn''t.''If you encounter this narrative on Amazon, note that it''s taken without the author''s consent. Report it. Coming to a conclusion, Thita was ready to reply to the girl, until he suddenly heard footsteps. Someone was coming towards him and fast. With a hurried movements, Thita grabbed his knife from the girls leg and pulled dit out quickly, resulting in her screaming due to sudden pain. He didn''t stop though and with a precise movement, he placed his knife extremely close to her neck, with the sharp side of the knife almost touching it. He didn''t knew who was coming towards him but he had to be prepared. He had to make use of whatever he had in his possession in order to survive. He had to be ready for anything the world threw at him. This was the only way to survive. Not a moment later after he made his move, a figure appeared in front of them with an exhausted and hurried expression. He seemed to be boy around 17 years old with almost the same features as the girl. His hair was more messy though and not as pure as the girls. Noticing the two of them, the boy shivered and quickly raised his bow, aiming directly at Thita''s head, while shouting. "Let... let her go!" In exchange, Thita pulled the knife closer to the girl''s neck with a serious expression, resulting in her to get even more terrified and for the boy to grit his teeth. "Put your weapon down." Thita''s voice was calm betraying no emotions. Even though his seriousness though, the boy hesitated to put his only weapon against the enemy down. He had to think before making such a decision. Thita didn''t give him that time though, since after noticing the boys hesitation, he pulled the knife even closer to the girl''s throat. "No wait! It''s down! It''s down!!" Not even a moment after Thita''s threat, the boy had already let got of his bow and was now standing unarmed in front of the enemy. He was terrified, unsure if he had made the right choice. "So please, I beg you. Let Ilia go please!" The boy was pleading. His tone full of misery and despair with how things had turned out. "And why should I let her go? Didn''t you two just killed two of my friends? Why should I spare her? Why should I spare you murderers!?" Thita''s room for peaceful negotions had ended the moment the boy arrived. He had no choice but threaten them in order to negotiate. He had to make them follow and make sure that they won''t disobey him. This way he could survive. "Then take me instead! I will do whatever you want so please, let her go!" Judging by the despair in his voice, Thita got reassured about the success rate of his plan. He could make it out of here alive. "How many of you are there?" Hearing the question, the boy answered immediately. "It''s only us!" Receiving an answer in such a short time, Thita knew that the boy was saying the truth. Still something didn''t click right. "So, you are telling me, you two came here alone, without anyone else and attacked us out of the blue, while also expecting to win?" Thita''s voice was filled with doubt about the boy''s answer. He still didn''t knew how this world''s society worked but it seemed way to stupid for someone to do something like that. Hearing Thita''s doubt, the boy gritted his teeth and looked down as if he didn''t know how to respond. "I... I am saying the truth. Please, I beg you." The situation was bad for the boy. He never expected that thing would turn out like this. He didn''t know what to say, how to act. Even being truthful, didn''t seem to be working. "I understand. I will give you a choice then. If you follow what I say, I will let her go." Hearing these words, the boy suddenly felt a but of hope. The situation didn''t seem that hopeless anymore. "If you fail to do what I say though, I will kill her without a second though."
