《Sweet Pain》 Living the Dream Silence Sitting in my garden, I enjoy the sweet, oh so rare moments of silence. But I feel this serene moment of bliss is about to end. I can hear it. I can feel it. Somethings coming. I turn around. It jumps at me and before I can react, it grabs me by the neck. ¡°Got you, Daddy¡±, my sweet Ava nearly shouts in my ear. As I feel my eardrums practically bursting, I hold back the face of pain I was about to make, just to not worry my daughter. ¡°You sure did, do you feel proud of yourself scaring your old man like that? What if you gave me a heart attack?¡± I ask her, half-jokingly. ¡°Daddys not that old yet! And even if, then Daddy would become a powerful Scherzaaan!¡± My daughter holds her head above her head, As if launching some kind of powerful spell. Forgetting she¡¯s supposed to hold onto me, she starts falling. I, of course, immediately catch her, and correct her ¡°Its Schmerzan Sweaty, and you focus on not turning into one yourself.¡± Schmerzan¡¯s, the mages of this world. Through extreme pain of any kind, the people of this world can start their journey towards strength. I was never much of a pain guy, even as a child I cried over every little scratch and bruise. My mother always indulged my behavior, which may or may not have made it worse. No matter, I have no need for strength. In our little town, Vallendell, there are only a handful of people, my family included. Why go trough pain, when I can just live my little life, away from all trouble. ¡°Ashen! Ava! Dinners ready!¡± I hear my wife, Adira, call our names. I grab my daughter and put her on my shoulders. ¡°Yay, food!¡± My daughter laughs and nearly falls of, again. We hurry back and sit down at the table in our backyard. Our property is big, considering my occupation as the town¡¯s hunter. I hunt all kinds of wild beast, from fish to small forest critters, to the occasional big herbivore. I even managed to kill a Ferther. It¡¯s a large predator, at the apex of anything you¡¯re going to find in this region. It has thick fur, paws as big as my head and more endurance than anything I¡¯ve ever seen. Its at least 8 feet tall, has 4 legs and is way to silent for something its size. But I was lucky, way to lucky. Story for another time. ¡°Here, my famous Daar Soup¡± My wife places 3 bowls of delicious smelling soup infront of us. Little cubes of bites sized Daar meat (a Daar is a medium Herbivor with Antlers and hooves), suspended in heavenly broth, consisting of carrots, potatoes and porrey. Next to the soup is my wifes freshly made bread, still steaming. With the sun in my back making the food look even more divine I can¡¯t wait to dig in. ¡°Thank you for the meal¡± we say in unison, as we start our dinner. I taste the slight smokey aroma, the harmony of all the flavors as the meat and vegetables dance their way down my tummy. I can¡¯t hide my pleased expression as my wife takes it as an invitation to feel proud of herself. I let her, because she deserves it. I know this might sound wrong, but her cooking skills were one of the reasons I ended up marring her. Not to say that she isn¡¯t beautiful. Her long, blond hair, her dark gray, almost black eyes and her astonishing figure were also good reasons. I don¡¯t mean to brag, but I¡¯d say I was pretty good looking myself as well. My long black hair, tied in a knot at the back, my dark blue eyes and well-toned, but still slank figure for my occupation were quite the looker. Sometimes I just look in the mirror and think ¡°damn.¡± Enjoying the meal, I take it all in. I¡¯m a lucky guy. I have a beautiful wife, a wonderful daughter and I¡¯m damn handsome. Dear god, if something like that exist. Just let it be like this, forever. After the meal, we clean the table and get ready to relax for the evening. Adira is cleaning the dishes, while I get some firewood for our oven. Ava picks up a piece of wood that¡¯s nearly as big as herself and tries to help me. I laugh as she struggles to lift it, but she manages, she always does. she¡¯s a strong girl, and I¡¯m proud of her. This story originates from Royal Road. Ensure the author gets the support they deserve by reading it there. ¡°See daddy, I¡¯m strong enough to go hunting with you soon! Then you can show me how to hunt with the bow as well¡± ¡°Well see about that, how about you try lifting the bow properly first?¡± I set down the wood and look for my bow, which I usually set down next to my reading chair. I enter our house. I¡¯m greeted with the familiar site of our cozy little cottage. Our small living room with my chair, and a little couch, followed by our bed in the next room, and a smaller bed in another room. Our house is home to way too many plants, and I have my wife to thank for that. I walk to my chair and look for my bow. ¡°Honey, where is my bow?¡± I ask my wife, hoping she just moved it, and it was not me having forgotten it back at my hunting outpost, again. ¡°I have not seen it Ashen. Don¡¯t tell me you forgot it again. That¡¯s the second time in the same day, how is that even possible?¡± She teases me. ¡°No, I left it there on purpose. Anyway, I will go get it now. Ill hurry.¡± I said as I opened the door and left the house. I kiss Ava on the forehead. ¡°Wait for me, ill just quickly go get my bow. Try to stay awake.¡± ¡°If you left it there on purpose, why did you ask- ¡°I close the door. I could have sworn I heard someone question my totally not made-up reason. Must have been the wind. My outpost is pretty far into the forest east of my house. It takes about half an hour if I hurry, about an hour if I take it slow. Because its already getting dark, I try to hurry. As I arrive at my outpost, I see my bow laying on the ground, the string broken. ¡°Tsk, damn critters¡± I inspect the string. It looks chewed, by some kind of small rodent. I vow to take my revenge, angrily shaking my fist at the sky. As I pick it up and sigh. I suddenly hear something, followed by feeling lightheaded. I fall to the ground. No, I¡¯m forced to the ground by a massive shockwave, slamming my body into the cold forest floor. I hear something crack inside my body. Throbbing pain is coming from everywhere, especially my ears. I hold my hands against them and feel it. I look at my hands. Blood. I can¡¯t hear anything. I look around. The forest is gone. All the trees around me have fallen, destroyed by the shockwave, whatever that was. The air smells like fresh wood and wet moss, but the cold air bites my nose. I try to stand up, I fail. As I try to stand up again, I feel like I¡¯m missing something. Suddenly my heartbeat quickens to a level I thought impossible. Panic, unimaginable panic spread through my body, forcing me to my feet at a nearly impossible speed. I run. I run I run I run I run. Back home. I trip over the remnants of a tree. Before my face reaches the ground, I push myself up with my hands to keep up my momentum. I run and jump and run even further. My lungs are burning, my heart is screaming, and my legs are begging me to stop, but I don¡¯t. How could I stop over something as insignificant as pain. I feel something I have never felt before. Fear. Fear in its most primitive and gut-wrenching form, the primal kind of fear one feels when they lose their very essence for living. The fear hammers against my skull, nearly splitting it open with its intensity. My heart feels like its bursting out of my ribcage, pounding against my broken ribs. Keep pumping. My lungs feel like they are tearing apart, the cold air burning like thousands of needles in my body, suppling barely enough oxygen to not die. Keep breathing. My feet and legs are running at what I thought impossible speeds, as I feel my muscles tearing apart from the inhuman forces, I¡¯m driving them to exert. Keep running. I feel something. Something carving a passage inside me. It hurts, it hurts so much. But I don¡¯t care, I can¡¯t afford to care right now. Its chiseling my very being away, to make space for something else. I feel my body breaking, invaded by this foreign entity. I don¡¯t care. Suddenly, my body changes. My bones shift back into place. I feel them moving, pushing and grinding against each other. It hurts, but I keep moving. They fuse back together, under unfathomable pain. My heart moves more blood, forcing my veins to expand, causing agony, making me feel like I am about to burst from the inside out. It hurts to much, but I keep moving. My Lungs grow, keep growing seemingly endlessly. I let out a scream, as my lungs practically leave through my mouth, before they shrink back down. Stronger than before. I feel stronger. But it hurts, it hurts like hell. It hurts so much that I can¡¯t even remember the world without pain. I get faster. I get faster and faster as I feel my muscles growing back. Denser and stronger. I feel each cell forming, duplicating, like millions of ants biting and crawling under my skin, making me faster. The forest, or what¡¯s left of it, blurs behind me as I keep getting faster. And then, I stop running. Not because I can¡¯t run anymore, but because I arrived. The trip that took me 30 minutes took me barley 5 minutes back. I don¡¯t have time to think about why I was so fast, because I have arrived. ¡°W-What¡ It¡¯s gone¡± Remembering to Forget Today was my 13th birthday. My dad said we¡¯ would go to the zoo after school. I loved beasts ever since I was small. I found them fascinating. The way they look, the way they behave, even their strength, it¡¯s amazing. I could barely sit still on my seat while the teacher talked about Schmerzans. ¡°¡uiet, quiet! As I was saying. Magic is still mysterious, even tho we have been using it for a really long time, since the beginning of human history even. Magic is not limited to humans. In fact, most beasts are able to use magic, sometimes even better than us humans. But why is that, and how does one awaken as a Schmerzan? Who would like to answer that question? Yes, Klein?¡± A small boy with short grey hair stands up ¡°The ability to use magic awakens in us when we are in situations of extreme pain, no matter if physical, psychological or emotional. The amount of pain required changes from person to person, but it is believed that the people that go through more pain while awakening become stronger mages with more potential.¡± ¡°Yes Klein, you may sit down. Does anyone want to add something?¡± A girl, around twice the size of Klein stands up. ¡°I think we learned, that the type of magic one can wield depends on the type of pain one felt while awakening. For example, a burn victim may be able to wield fire magic, or someone who was stabbed may be able to sharpen different parts of their bodies. ¡° ¡°Yes, that¡¯s all true Heidi, but what you didn¡¯t learn yet, is that not only the awakening is painful. Every time you use magic, you will feal the same pain. Not nearly as strong of course, but to get stronger, most believe more pain is necessary, the more you want to grow your magic power. Also, magic is not just some kind of infinite power source." The teacher continued, "While pain is required, you also need Mana. Mana is the magical energy present everywhere around us. It is stored in a Mana Core thats created in your abdomen while awakening. While the Mana Core signefies the maximum amount of Mana you have, your Pain Level indicates how efficently you can use that Mana.¡± Klein raised his hand again. "Teacher, how do you differentiate between the different levels? "Good question Klein! Thanks to the work of talented Schmerzans, we have developed a magical device that can accurately categorize the level of your Mana Core and your Pain." "Mana cores are measured in the following sequence" She wrote something on the board. 1. Ivory 2. Pale 3. Slime 4. Crimson 5. Blood 6. Soot 7. Ashen 8. Violet 9. Obsidian 10. Ebon "That means the darker your mana core, the more mana is present, and the purer that mana is. Most people start at Ivory, some talented individuals even start at Pale. The progression for Pain Levels is as following." She picked up the chalk and started writing again. 1. Discomfort 2. Ache 3. Twinge 4. Pinch 5. Sting 6. Throb 7. Burn 8. Agony 9. Torment 10. Excruciating "Now, these names are just simbolic and dont accurately determine the type of pain felt. Even level 1 is extremely Painful for most humans. Its just to better categorize the amount of strenght one has." My classmates started scribbling in their note books, copying the board." ¡°Now, who can tell me if beasts need to go through the same process as we humans do?¡± No one raised their hands, all looking at each other. ¡°No one? Well, let me tell you. Most beasts can use some form of magic the moment they are born, even if it¡¯s just rudimentary. Only more powerful beasts get born without and must experience pain the same way we do, to awaken to magic. Now why this seemingly paradoxical phenomenon happens, we have yet to find out, but most believe it¡¯s because¡¡± I drifted off, not bothering to listen anymore. As I thought about the zoo, my mind started to wander. *** *** I stood in front of the charred remains of my home. The roof and most of the walls were gone, reduced to ashes. Only rubble and stone were left, covered by a layer of soot, slowly being carried away by the wind.If you encounter this tale on Amazon, note that it''s taken without the author''s consent. Report it. I fell to me knees as a gut-wrenching scream left my mouth. I felt like I was being torn apart from the inside out. Indescribable emptiness spread inside me. I felt my stomach-turning upside down, as its contents made their way up my throat and through my mouth as I vomited on the charred ground. ¡°AVA! ADIRA!¡± Tears streamed down my face, as I clawed at the ground with my fingers until they were reduced to bloody stumps. I tried to force myself enter my home, to confirm my worries, my fears, my worst nightmares. But I could not. I was afraid that the last piece of hope I still had would be destroyed as I lost my very reason for living, forever. I bit my tongue, tasting the metallic flavor of my blood. The pain helped me think clearly, or at least helped me distract myself enough so that I was able to take my first step toward the door. *** *** Today was my 18th birthday, and my present was being allowed to work in our little shop. My father was a hunter, providing for our family and selling the rest we didn¡¯t need in this here shop. Someday I want to do the same for my family. I was ripped out of my thoughts as the most beautiful girl I have ever seen entered our shop. She had a hand-woven basket in her hand, filled with various vegetables and beast products, wearing a white summer dress with yellow flowers on it. ¡°G-Good Day ma¡¯am, I¡¯m Ashen, H-How can I help you on this fine summer day?¡± I stuttered, mentally slapping myself for embarrassing myself like that. ¡°G-Good morning to you too, my name is Adira. I¡¯m just looking for some rabbit¡¯s meat and some fur that¡¯s going to make a good winter coat.¡± I could see she was kind of shy, not daring to make eye contact with me. So cute, I thought to myself. God, I wish I could get a woman like that¡ --- --- It was the evening of my first date with Adira. I stood in front of her home, sweating bullets and to afraid to knock. My father made me dress like some kind of prince, saying this was the suit that he wooed my mother with. I had a big bouquet of flower in my left hand. My mother told me girls love gifts like that. I was too nervous, but I took all my strength together and knocked. Before I could even finish knocking, Adira opened the door. She looked even more beautiful then usual. She wore a light blue dress, complementing every single one of her features, no matter if it was her blonde hair, or her figure. I was stunned. I just stood there, mouth open and probably drooling a little bit. She laughed as she saw me, but she looked stunned by my outfit as well. I put the flowers down and gave her my hand. ¡°If I may, ma¡¯am.¡± She chuckled as she took my hand, letting me take her down the road to the restaurant we had a reservation at. ¡°Yes, you may, mister¡±. --- --- Today was the day. Never in my life had I been as nervous as today. I could feel the sweat pouring out of every single one of my pores. * Oh god, can they see how sweaty I am? Do I stink? What if my hand is sweaty and she thinks I¡¯m disgusting? * My thoughts kept spiraling, threatening to drive me crazy, when suddenly, my mind went black. Opening the door, she walked down the aisle, her father holding her hand while they walked towards me. Standing in front of the altar, all I could think was *Wow, she looks beautiful. * I could see her blushing, her cheeks and neck turning bright red. As they arrived, her father gave me her hand and said¡± Now, I give her too you. Take care of her, and love her every day, as I did.¡± As she stood before me, the priest started talking, but I couldn¡¯t hear him anyway, I was completely focused on my wife. --- --- Oh god Oh god Oh god. Today was the day. It was a week to early, nearly two weeks. Why was it already time for that? And I was going to be late as well! I sprinted down the hallways of the hospital, searching for the room my wife was supposed to be in. As I found it, I suddenly heard a baby crying. ¡°Don¡¯t tell me I missed it!¡± As I ran into the room, I found her holding a baby, beaming with you as she smiled at me and said, ¡°You are late Darling.¡± --- --- It has been 3 years since Ava was born. She is such a lively child, always wandering off somewhere and trying new things, her curious mind always searching for new stimulation. Adira and I started loving each other even more. I thought that wasn¡¯t even possible, but Ava was everything we did not even know we missed. Life is perfect. I hope it will stay like this forever. *** *** I tried to claw out my eyes, trying to erase the scenery I had just seen out of my mind. I started vomiting again, but with my stomach already empty, all I could do was gag, as tears started flowing again. I screamed and did not stop. I screamed till no sound came out anymore. Silence. Oh, sweet silence. My wife laid on the ground, or what was left of her. Her charred corpse missing any semblance of the women I loved and married. All the hair on her body was gone, burnt to ashes. Her skin was burnt black and cracked from the heat. On other parts of her body, most of the skin was gone, only charred muscles and bones, blackened by the soot remained. Her head was crushed by a wooden beam that fell on her after the walls collapsed, but I doubt she died a painless death. A small, rat like beast was chewing on her foot, thinking it an easy meal. Before it could even sense me, all that was left of it was a bloody puddle, as I smashed it under my foot with inhuman speed. Tears streaming down my chin, wetting the disfigured corpse of my beloved wife. ¡°I am so sorry I was gone. I am here now; everything is going to be fine now¡¡± I tried to convince myself I was dreaming. I started looking around, searching for my sweet angel of a daughter. I could not wait for her to start running at me and jump in my arms, laughing and asking to hold my bow. Where the door to the next room used to be, I could see a small arm laying, the same black, cracked skin as my wife. I could not bear it anymore. I left the house and broke down. I hit the ground and started screaming again. I could not hear anything, but I did not stop. I cried till I had no tears left. I screamed till I my throat bled. The emptiness inside me growing and growing, until I felt that familiar feeling again. The emptiness was being filled by something. I started hearing whispers in my mind, but I could not make out what they were saying. Not that I cared. I started chocking on my own blood. The entity within me started consuming me, my flesh, my skin, my very being. I felt my it breaking my bones from the inside, tearing my muscles apart and removing my skin from my flesh. The pain was immense and the agony I felt unlike anything I had experienced in my life before this day. But right now, I barley noticed it. My mind was filled with memories of my family, refusing to accept the fact that they were gone. My skin was being removed from my body, slowly but surely disappearing into thin air. My wife smiled at me saying I could do it. My skin was gone, only my useless muscles left, too weak to even protect my family. But I did not scream or even move, as they too started disappearing, agonizing pain rushing through what was left of my body. My daughter laughed as I found her hiding spot during hide and seek. My muscles were gone now. All that was left was my skeleton, filled with my useless organs, to weak to make my body stronger, to strong to just let me die. Something fell out of my jacket that was sitting on my bony shoulders. I did not even have to look to know what it was. I heard my daughter¡¯s voice. ¡°¡take this, I made it, so you won''t get lost." Unimaginable power came from the emptiness, this entity, within me. My muscles grew out of my bones, denser then ever before. Endless power dwelling inside them. Enough power to get revenge for my family. My skin grew from my muscles, tough enough to shield me from the ones who would try to stop me. The thoughts inside my mind were getting clearer and clearer, slowly forming someone, something, speaking to me. But I ignored the foreign entity trying to communicate with me, for now, steeling my mind, as my goal became clear. ¡°I will find you. I will find you and then I will make you go through what I had to go through today. I will make you feel pain so agonizing that death will be a mercy. A mercy I won¡¯t be granting you, as you did not grant me the mercy of dying with my family.¡± And then again. Silence. A body not my own --- Interlude: Encounter with the Ferther--- *Fuck! Why, and more importantly how, did this happen? All I remember was losing my footing and falling into some kind of hole. Now that I woke up, I¡¯m in the cave of a goddamn Ferther. At least it¡¯s not home, or otherwise I would be dead already. * I looked around, observing my surroundings. I was in an underground cave of a Ferther. With their enormous claws, they like to dig themselves homes in which they sleep and store their food. All around me there were piles of gnawed off bones, with little balls of hair and other gross stuff inside them. It smelled like someone died while taking the nastiest shit of their life, it smelled horrid. I nearly passed out again, but I was able to keep myself conscious. The first thing I did was cover myself in mud and the other disgusting things the ground was made of that were present in here. The worst thing that could happen was that the Ferther came back, while I was trying to find my way out. But it smelled so bad, I had to swallow my puke back down several times, but after I was done, I was sure it couldn¡¯t smell me anymore. Now I was ready to start looking for an exit. I started following the large tunnels. The walls were made of dirt, with the roots of trees acting as support. Some of them were chewed on, making it seem as if the Ferther liked to snack on them. As I was sneaking my way along the tunnel, I reached a small room, a little bigger than the tunnel. It was filled with pelts and feathers, leaves and branches, all kinds of soft things. As soon as I entered, I saw a shadow. I pressed myself against the wall. There it was, the towering colossus of fur, able to kill me with a single strike of its paw. The scariest part was, that even though I saw it in front of me, its enormous 10-foot body walking at a slow pace, I couldn¡¯t hear even the faintest sound of its existence. No breathing, no footsteps, no nothing. It''s like my eyes were playing tricks on me. I did not dare to move. If I moved, I was dead. I couldn¡¯t die like this, not without my family knowing where I was and what happened to me. The Ferther looked in my direction, staring at me. It got closer and closer. As it stood directly in front of me, it started smelling me. While their nose is incredible, their eyesight is terrible from spending a lot of time in their tunnels. They were basically blind. I was glad I covered myself in mud, so glad. It was so close. I could see its nose widening, trying to determine if there was something here. I could see its milky white eyes, just staring at the space in front of it. I could smell its breath, the same rotten concoction of death I smelled everywhere here. After what felt like an eternity, it stopped. It turned around and walked in a circle, until finally laying down near the center of the room and closing its eyes. Not daring to move, I waited for what felt like an eternity, until I finally heard snoring. Sneaking my way to the Ferther, I readied my hunting knife, and slit its throat. Its eyes darted open, realizing its life was nearing its end. It thrashed around itself without any semblance of coordination. I already leaped out of danger but it did not stop there. It charged at me, trying to crush me against the wall and rip me apart before it died, to at least take me with it. I jumped up, landing on its back and holding on for dear life. It ran around in circles, trying to shake me of, but I felt it slow down. In a desperate last attempt o kill me, it threw itself down to the ground and tried to bury me under its body. I pushed myself away and crashed against the wall, as the beast fell down and finally stopped breathing. I stood up but felt my leg aching from the fall. I limped out of there, fearing that there was another one near. Feathers often lived together in ¡°families¡± of 2 to 3 beasts. As I left the lair of the beast behind me, I realized how lucky I was. *** *** I did not know how long I have been sitting here, on the ground I once called home. Maybe Hours, maybe days, or maybe just seconds. Time held no meaning. The remnants of everything I called family, only a few feet away from me, but it felt like there was a wall between me and ¡°them¡±. I could not go in there, not again. I looked down at my body. But it did not feel like my body. My muscles reacted to my call and did what my brain told them to do, but it did not feel the same way as before. As if I was no longer fully in control of my own body. If you find this story on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen. Please report the infringement. I stood up, and tried to move. It was easy, really easy. I was faster and stronger than ever before, but I felt a dull pain radiate everywhere. Not because I was hurt, but because I was using magic. I was a Schmerzan now. After a while, I heard something in the back of my head, trying to get my attention. At first, it was faint, like a thought, gone before it could be fully realized. But it got stronger, forming full words and talking to me in human speech. I thought I had fully lost it now. *..ey, Hey! Are you there? Did I manifest in a braindead moron or what? Hellooooo* *What? What the fuck do you want? Can''t you see I''m mourning here?* I shot back, already annoyed by whatever was talking to me. *Oho, so it does talk. I would be more grateful if I were you. Millions of Schmerzans would kill to have something like me, you dipshit. Treat your elders with respect* I was convinced I had fully lost it now. *No you have not gone completely crazy yet, but you were very close. That was some delicious pain you had there. Haven''t quite felt something like that in all my life.* *Oh so you can read my thoughts? Great* *Only the most surface level, or at least for now.* *What even are you?* *I''m the reason you are able to use magic. Without me, you would not even be here yet, still running out of that forest to reach this BBQ here.* *You fucking¡* *Chill out, I''m just joking. Anyway, everyone that''s able to use magic can do so because they have one of my brethren inside them. Though most of them are not sentient till way later, usually not till Pain Level 8. You got lucky, kid, be grateful.* *So what now, you are just here now? Why, because of the greatness of your heart?* *Of Course not, I''m here to take over your body. Why would my kind just give you lessers our power?* *What? Take over my body? That''s the first time I''m hearing this.* *Like I said, most only obtain sentience at Pain Level 8, and at that point it''s already way too late to stop us from taking your body. If you lessers knew we were trying to take over your body, you would never pursue more of our power.* *And why would you tell me this? I am assuming it''s not too late for me to stop you, so would it nor be smarter for you to keep me in the dark?* *No, because I have a deal for you. I am going to help you get revenge on the person that did this. But to get strong enough to do that in a reasonable amount of time, you have no choice but to slowly but surely make your body accept more of my influence, until it is not your body anymore, but mine.* *And what if I refuse? Are you going to leave on your own?* *No. Your body is still going to be mine, but it is going to take longer and it is going to hurt a lot. But not for me.* I was baffled. All of this new information was too much for me, my brain hurt. Magic was only possible because of these things? And they want our bodies? How does no one know this, and why don''t the Level 8 and above Schmerzans say anything? Are they already gone, replaced by the entities? *So I don''t really have a choice, do I?* *No, but there is good news. Firstly, the guy that did this is close. And secondly, he is not that strong. With some help from me, you should probably be able to kill him.* *First off all, why don''t you just invade all of our bodies from the moment we are born? Would that not increase your chances? Why wait for the pain?* *Obviously because we can''t just invade your body. We can invade the weak minded, simple beasts, but the stronger and the more intelligent the creature, the better the natural protection against spiritual beings like us. Only during intense pain, does the body lower its defenses against us, and we can slip in. And to not get kicked out the moment the pain ends, we keep you in pain every time you use our power. Pain itself is obviously not required for us to use magic, once you are gone and we have your body.* *Disgusting parasite* A jolt of pain ran through my body, making me scream and fall to my knees *Don''t get cocky now. I might act all nice, but your life is already in my hands, remember that* *Fuck you, lets get this over with, so I can die in piece. What am I supposed to call you? Master? Great One? Fuckfac¡* Another jolt of pain ran through me. Blood was coming out of my 7 orifices, making me dizzy. *Call me Zael. And that was Strike 2. I am allowing you to die in peace and kill that guy, but if you keep acting up, I am just going to possess you right now, however long it takes.* *Sure, but why not just do that to all people you guys possess? Why wait for us to suffer?* *Because it''s easier. And like I said, we are all usually not sentient, because your defenses are not low enough for our whole soul to enter. But you were so close to going crazy, that I was actually able to slide right in. You were like huge open door just begging to be possessed. You should feel honored that someone as important as me will possess your body.* *What could possibly be so important about you?* *Not for you to know. Now, let''s go kill that guy so I can finally have a body again.*
