《Herbalist is actually OP》
Prologue
Adam had always told himself that he would make enough to slow down eventually. There was always tomorrow, always next year, always the promise that once he¡¯d made enough, he could take a step back and enjoy the simple things. But tomorrow had never come, Not really. He was 45 with no wife and no kids and the longest relationship he''s been in was for a year and for 8 Months of that he was on the road and she used his house for drug parties.
No for 15 years he was a salesman the worst kind the door-to-door kind, To make it worse he was selling basic medical supplies not to hospitals which would make since no he was selling to everyday people and mom-and-pop stores across America. long hours, constant travel, and the stress of meeting quotas preventing him from having any real life outside of work. He had learned early on that the key to surviving in this industry wasn¡¯t just about selling; it was about surviving the endless cycle of exhaustion. He had been good at it. Too good, perhaps.
It all changed when the pandemic hit, All of a sudden everyone needed what he was selling and it was very good for 2 years he was meeting every quota and hitting every bonus, he worked harder than ever. His phone rang constantly, orders flooded in from across the country, and his business was booming in ways he never could have imagined. Every day was an uphill climb, but with each sale came another notch in his growing fortune. He couldn¡¯t remember a time when he had felt more alive, more validated by the success of his efforts.
When things started to slow down he decided for the first time in 15 years he was going to take a vacation, he called up his boss and told him he was taking the next 2 weeks off to get a cabin and go fishing up in the mountains next to his childhood home. His goal was to be free from a buzzing phone and up there no reception for even an email.
The morning the day he was to leave was everything Adam had hoped for the sun was raising and the forecast called for clear days and no major accidents on the freeways the roads were clear. He loaded up his old 90 Toyota Corolla it ran great since the day he got it only problem was the damn seatbelt never came down like it was supposed to the supposed safety feather of the future and on top of that last year the bottom half stopped clicking in place too. He told himself it was time to get a new one but that can wait. He figured it would be the perfect vehicle for his escape.
He checked his phone one last time. There was a text from his boss. ¡°Have a safe trip, Adam. Enjoy your time. You¡¯ve earned it.¡± The garage door slid up with a creak as he pulled out into the driveway. He took a deep breath, rolling down the windows and letting the fresh morning air fill his lungs.
He starts heading towards the freeway that will take him to the interstate, He would drive about 9 hours today before pulling over to sleep tonight and hopefully arrive at this destination by Lunchtime tomorrow. As he was merging onto the freeway his phone went off reaching for it and he grabbed it but dropped it between his legs and it slid under the gas peddle looking up the road was clear so he looked down and started to grab it. He manages to get it out from under and it lights up and his GPS is what made it go off Road work ahead traffic slowed. He looks up from his phone but it was too late. He swarved to try and redirect himself away from the workers and traffic jam but in doing so he hit the Divider in the freeway, He couldn¡¯t register what was happening fast enough. He found himself lying on the pavement, his body crumpled like a ragdoll. He could taste blood, feel it dripping down his face. His vision was blurry, but through the haze, he could see the wreckage of his car, twisted and mangled. Fishing gear was scattered around him like pieces of a broken dream. This story has been taken without authorization. Report any sightings.
His fingers twitched, but he couldn¡¯t move. His body felt heavy, unresponsive. The pain was overwhelming. He tried to focus, to make sense of the chaos, but the darkness was already creeping in. He heard voices in the distance, shouts, but they sounded far away and then nothing.
¡ª-
Adam couldn¡¯t move. He couldn¡¯t feel. He couldn¡¯t even think properly, at least not in the way he was used to. It wasn¡¯t just darkness. No, it was something deeper, something worse. It was the absence of everything the kind of emptiness he imagined death must be like.It was as if he had been pulled from one reality into another, one where nothing made sense, where his mind itself felt unmoored. There were no sounds, no light, no air. It was as if all his senses had been shut off, locked away in a vacuum that stretched on forever. And still, his mind churned. He could think, but the thoughts were disjointed, fragmentary. He wasn¡¯t supposed to be thinking. He wasn¡¯t supposed to be aware. There should be nothing here, just the quiet, hollow nothingness of the void. But there was him.
God, what if this is it? What if I¡¯m stuck like this forever?
And then¡ª
A flicker.
It was like the smallest of pinpricks in the vast sea of black. A light and Then, the light expanded, and with it came a voice. A voice that rang through the blackness like the sound of a bell, clear and delicate, yet firm as steel.
¡°Adam.¡±The voice was a woman¡¯s
He tried to call out but didn¡¯t know how to couldnt feel anything to even know where to start. As the light grew he help his mouth for the first time and asked. ¡°Who are you¡±
¡°I am Airmed,¡± she said, the name echoing with a strange familiarity, a weight that he couldn¡¯t quite place. ¡°I am one of the Tuatha D¨¦ Danann.¡±
¡°The... what? I don¡¯t understand. Where am I? What¡¯s going on?¡±
Airmed¡¯s gaze softened, and for a moment, she looked away, as though trying to gather the right words. ¡°You are between worlds, Adam. You are... not quite dead, but not fully alive either. You¡¯ve crossed over into a place where time and space do not matter. But I reached you, because you still remain.¡±
He was dead. Or at least, his body was. He had died in the crash. But here he was, in the vast emptiness, alive, somehow. This wasn¡¯t just an afterlife. This wasn¡¯t anything he had expected.
Airmed¡¯s voice softened, a note of gentleness creeping in. ¡°And I need your help.¡±
¡°Help?¡± Adam could barely process the words. ¡°I¡¯m dead... Why do you need me?¡±
The light around her flickered, and for the first time, she lowered her gaze, her eyes filled with something akin to... regret? ¡°Because you were the only one I could reach,¡± she said quietly. ¡°You see, Adam, I am offering you a chance. A gift, if you will.¡±
Adam frowned, the confusion mounting. ¡°A gift? What kind of gift?¡±
¡°Knowledge and skills in Herbalism,¡± Airmed said. ¡°The art of healing with plants. Herbs. The ancient knowledge of the earth. In your world, you sold medical supplies You were close to healthcare, but you never did anything meaningful with it. You never changed anything. You never truly helped anyone.¡±
Adam¡¯s heart clenched, her words cutting deeper than he imagined. He couldn¡¯t argue with her. It was true. He had sold medical supplies but had he ever really made a difference?
She continued, her eyes meeting his. ¡°But I can give you something different. A way to help others. The world I want to send you is filled with magic, when the common folk get sick or wounded, they must either pray to the gods and hope for the best or pay a healer. Most families are barely getting by and can¡¯t afford to pay a healer. Herbalism is something that can be taught, you can pass it down.
Adam¡¯s mind raced. He couldn¡¯t fathom what she was asking of him. ¡°Why me?¡± he demanded, his voice rising in frustration. ¡°I¡¯m just a salesman. I¡¯ve never healed anyone in my life! Why not a doctor, or a nurse? Someone who knows how to help?¡±
Airmed paused. Her gaze dropped, and for a brief moment, her expression faltered. ¡°Because,¡± she said quietly, ¡°you were the only one... semi-involved with health care who never did anything useful in life. Everyone else¡¯s soul was already bound, already on a path. But you... you were heading into the void, and I could reach you.¡±
¡°I¡¯ll send you to a world where you can help,¡± she continued, her voice firm once more. ¡°You can take my gift of herbalism, travel the land, and help heal the sick. If you want to charge for your services, you may. Just bring herbalism back into the world.¡±
¡°Okay,¡± he finally said, his voice steady despite the whirl of emotions inside him. ¡°I¡¯ll do it.¡±
Airmed smiled, a soft, knowing smile. ¡°Good. Then come with me, Adam. The world is waiting.¡±
Chapter 1
Adam¡¯s head throbbed as he started to come to. The pain was sharp like someone trying to split his head open, He groaned, blinking against the dark and the blur of his surroundings. He was lying on the ground, face pressed against something soft it felt like damp grass, maybe? The scent of pine trees filled the air. For a moment, Adam couldn''t process what was happening. The last thing he remembered was the crash and then nothing.
Now, here he was, in a forest, The forest was vast, the trees towering above him in all directions. Sunlight filtered through the canopy, casting long beams of warm light onto the forest floor. He took a deep breath, hoping it would calm his racing heart, but that only made his dizziness worse. His head pounded even harder. "What the hell is going on?"
He tried to push himself to his feet, but his vision swam, and he almost collapsed back onto the ground. Forcing his breathing to slow, he steadied himself, looking down at his hands. No sign of injury. No cuts. No bruises. Nothing. "This isn¡¯t right."
He closed his eyes, trying to focus. The forest, the sky, the trees¡ªit all seemed so out of place. None of this made sense. Had he died? Was he in some kind of afterlife?
But then, as if the universe had heard his thoughts, something began to materialize in his vision.
A rectangular screen popped up in the air before him, glowing faintly with golden light. Adam blinked and rubbed his eyes, sure he was hallucinating. But when he opened them again, the screen remained
It wasn¡¯t just any screen. It was... a system?

¡°What is this? Why is my class... orange?¡± Adam asked aloud, his voice shaking with confusion. He stared at the glowing screen, trying to make sense of the color difference. The class itself stood out, bathed in an eerie, vibrant orange glow, while everything else¡ªhis attributes, inventory, and quest log¡ªremained a normal, standard color.
No response. The system remained silent.
He shook his head in disbelief. ¡°Okay, this is insane,¡± he muttered, his fingers brushing across the screen. ¡°I¡¯ve been thrown into some... game world, haven¡¯t I?¡±
Adam sighed, rubbing his temples, trying to steady his nerves. He could ask questions all day, but it wasn¡¯t helping. This was real. Whatever this was, he was here now. So, he decided to focus on the class Herbalist.Unauthorized use: this story is on Amazon without permission from the author. Report any sightings.
As soon as his mind focused on the class, the screen flickered once more. A new prompt appeared, glowing brightly as if the system was responding directly to his curiosity.

Adam stared at the glowing screen, his breath catching in his throat. ¡°Legendary... class?¡± He swallowed hard. The system wasn¡¯t offering any more explanations. It was up to him to figure it out.
Next, he focused on the new title he received.
[SYSTEM MESSAGE]

"Wait..." Adam mumbled to himself, his mind working quickly. "I can swap subclasses? And save levels? That¡¯s huge. Does that mean I can... build a character in different ways?" Trying to remember his gaming days¡ This seemed kinda broken.
And finally the last thing that didn¡¯t make since was the Patron portion.
Adam blinked at the Patron section of the system screen, his brow furrowing as he read the word. "Patron? What¡¯s this about Airmed?" He muttered to himself. It was the only part of the screen that didn¡¯t make sense. The rest was understandable¡ªhe was here, he had a class, and now he had to learn how to use it. But this "Patron" thing, linked to Airmed, was a puzzle piece that didn¡¯t quite fit.
He focused on the name, thinking of the woman¡¯s voice he had heard earlier, calling herself Airmed. It all clicked in his mind¡ªshe had mentioned offering him a gift. Was this the link between them? Did she have some kind of power over his new life?
With a mix of curiosity and caution, Adam tried focusing his attention directly on the word Airmed in the system screen, hoping it would give him some answers.
[SYSTEM MESSAGE]
Patron: Airmed
- Effect 1: Gift of Healing ¡ª Airmed has granted you a deeper understanding of the ancient art of Herbalism. This gift allows you to craft healing potions and remedies with greater efficiency and potency.

- Effect 3: Favorable Alignment ¡ª You gain increased trust from the followers of Airmed, followers of the natural ways of healing, and anyone who works with herbs. This can grant you aid, information, and resources as you progress.
Adam read the system message with a sense of understanding slowly dawning on him. Airmed wasn¡¯t just a mysterious name from a voice in the void. She was his patron, and the link between them seemed to grant him a variety of special abilities and blessings related to Herbalism. A gift from a being who must have held great power in this world.
¡°Okay,¡± Adam said aloud, trying to wrap his head around it. ¡°So, Airmed¡¯s not just some voice from the void... she¡¯s my guide. And she¡¯s basically the reason I¡¯m here. Alright, I think I get it now.¡± He sighed heavily and ran a hand through his hair. ¡°This is insane.¡±
The more he read, the more he realized that this wasn¡¯t just an opportunity for a fresh start¡ªit was a chance to live out a life he had never considered in the real world. And it wasn¡¯t like he had a choice, anyway. He wasn¡¯t going back. Not without answers. Not unless he earned it.
His eyes drifted back down to the Quest Log in the system screen. It felt strangely grounding¡ªlike a to-do list for his new life. There were steps to follow, tasks to complete, and now, he had a way forward.
Quest Log:
Main Quest: Mastering Herbalism
Objective: Harvest your first batch of herbs and create a healing salve.
Reward: 50 XP
Adam exhaled slowly, his nerves starting to settle. "Okay, let''s get started.
Chapter 2
Adam took a deep breath as he looked around at the forest surrounding him. The trees towered high, their leaves casting dappled shadows across the soft, mossy ground. The air smelled rich with earth and growing things¡ªplants, herbs, life. It felt peaceful here, a stark contrast to the stress of his old life.
His Main Quest flashed in his mind again: Mastering Herbalism. He didn¡¯t know what exactly it meant to be a master of herbs, but he figured it had to start somewhere.
With no map, no idea where to go, and the weight of his decision to leave his old life behind still heavy on his shoulders, Adam picked a random direction¡ªeast¡ªand began to walk.
His feet sank lightly into the soil, and he found himself walking deeper into the forest. As the minutes passed, the quiet was almost deafening. The only sounds were his footsteps and the occasional rustle of leaves in the wind. He didn¡¯t mind it. In fact, it felt nice. The isolation of it was calming.
Still, there was a sense of uncertainty, a feeling that he was walking into the unknown.
As he walked, his attention was drawn to the various plants lining his path. It was strange, but it seemed natural now. He could see the plants, feel their significance in a way he never had before. He bent down to examine one, curious.
[SYSTEM MESSAGE]

- Effect: Restores 2 HP when applied.
- Rarity: Common
¡°That¡¯s useful,¡± Adam muttered to himself, reaching into his pouch and pulling out his Herbalist Tools. He carefully harvested the leaves, placing them into his inventory. The process felt oddly familiar, like something he¡¯d been doing for years, though he knew that wasn¡¯t true.
He continued walking, his focus now sharpening on the plants around him. As he moved, he spotted more potential herbs. His new skills had heightened his awareness of them, allowing him to easily identify even the most subtle of plants.
[SYSTEM MESSAGE]
Plant Identified: Dullroot (Common)
- Effect: Slightly increases stamina recovery for 30 Seconds while eating.
- Rarity: Common
Adam crouched down again, quickly harvesting the roots with precise movements. His Herbalist Tools made the task easier, the small blades cutting cleanly through the root without damaging the plant. He added the Dullroot to his growing collection. It wasn¡¯t much, but everything had a purpose.
[SYSTEM MESSAGE]
Plant Identified: Bitterleaf (Common)
- Effect: Increases resistance to nausea for a short time.
- Rarity: Common
¡°That¡¯s good to know,¡± Adam murmured, carefully picking the leaves from the plant. He placed them in his pouch, trying to keep track of what he had harvested. It was easy to forget in the beginning, but each plant had its own unique properties.
As Adam continued his walk, he kept finding more plants to collect. Some he recognized from the system¡¯s descriptions, while others were entirely new to him. The plants felt like old friends¡ªreliable, familiar, and useful. With every new discovery, Adam felt a little more connected to this world, like he was taking part in something ancient, something important.

He decided it was time for a rest the sun getting low in the sky as he sat on a rock he decided he was going to review his quest log for any updates.

Chapter 3
Adam woke up with a groan, his body aching in places he didn¡¯t know existed. Note to self: sleeping in trees is not a good way to live a life he didnt know how elves did it, wait do elves exist here he thought, stretching as stiffness rippled through his limbs. At least the Herbalist Robes had kept him warm. The fabric, enchanted kept him warm, and had staved off the night¡¯s chill, making his strange new reality marginally more bearable.
He blinked against the morning light filtering through the canopy, breathing in the crisp, earthy scent of the forest. It wasn¡¯t a dream. The crash, the darkness, the voice of Airmed, and the strange system that governed this world¡ªall of it had been real. Not a game. He sat up slowly, his thoughts racing as he grasped the Herbalist Blade at his side. The lightweight tool hummed faintly in his hand, a reminder of his new Legendary-tier equipment.
With a flick of his fingers, he opened his quest log. The message greeted him like an old friend:

The gentle rustling of leaves and distant birdsong filled the air. The forest wasn¡¯t silent¡ªit was alive with a thousand tiny movements. Adam adjusted his robes, the soft material shifting like a second skin, and took a deep breath. His stomach growled, reminding him that he hadn¡¯t eaten since his arrival. Buttered bread... he grimaced. Focus.
He picked a random direction, his eyes sharp as he walked. Most of the plants were familiar now¡ªbasic herbs and grasses¡ªbut they would do little for his needs. His mind wandered as the sun climbed overhead, the light dappling his path. Then he saw it.

He bent over, the Herbalist Blade slicing smoothly into the earth. The root came free with surprising ease, thick and fibrous, its earthy scent filling his nose. As he pulled it out, a network of similar roots spread before him. His heart leapt¡ªan unexpected bounty. One by one, he severed them, ignoring the notification that flashed in his vision.
Finally, he sat back, wiping his brow and holding up one of the roots. Hunger gnawed at him no longer as he bit into the dirt-covered plant. The taste was rich, almost meaty, with a hint of wood. For the first time since he arrived, he felt full. He sighed in satisfaction and finally glanced at the alert he''d ignored.

A grin tugged at his lips. One of my plants upgraded... that¡¯s a good start. He stored the roots in his inventory with a practiced swipe and shifted his focus to the task ahead¡ªcrafting a salve. He set his tools on a smooth rock near a stream, rinsing both the rock and a scrap of cloth salvaged from his torn clothes.
With careful hands, he plucked Twilight Moss and a basic healing herb from his inventory. He sliced them into fine pieces, his blade moving with surprising deftness. Placing the herbs on the stone, he covered them with the cloth and began to grind. Minutes passed as he worked, the plants¡¯ natural juices blending into a thick paste. He leaned into the process, letting instinct guide his motions.
When he was done, he peeled the cloth back, pushing the remaining paste from its fibers. A makeshift salve rested before him¡ªcrude, but serviceable.

Deciding that his day had been productive enough, Adam carefully stored his harvested herbs and supplies back into his inventory. Feeling ready to press on, he continued walking in the same direction, his eyes scanning the forest floor for anything of use. Hours passed with little to show for his effort¡ªjust one more Basic Healing Herb He chewed on one of his roots as he continued to walk In the distance, a wide trail cut through the dense trees, the ground packed firm from heavy use. Adam¡¯s heart quickened. A trail meant people, and people meant information¡ªor danger. He approached cautiously, the snap of twigs beneath his boots sounded To loud to his ears. He decided to set up camp and then follow the trail first thing in the morning. He gathered a few nearby leaves and layered them beneath him for insulation. The ground was far from comfortable, but it would do. Exhaustion pulled at his mind as he lay back, the sky above a canvas of dark blues and silver stars.
Chapter 4
Adam awoke when the first rays of the sun reached his face he felt so uncomfortable with his makeshift bed of leaves but at least it kept him off the bare ground. He began to sit up and slowly stretched out, He took one of his roots and started to chew his new Routine (Pronouncing it like Rootine) God he needed people just a few days without contact with another person and already making puns to himself.
His belly sated he cleaned up his makeshift camp and decided he was gonna follow the trail today. His eyes were constantly on the lookout not just for herbs but for anything out of the ordinary in every movie he''s ever watched now is where the person is always attacked. The only things he had seen for hours while walking this trail were a few small animals
[SYSTEM MESSAGE]
Creature Identified: Rainbow Squirrel
- Description: Small, Tree-dwelling, Herbivore.

The Squirrel paused for a moment then looked at me as if it could tell I inspected it, Its fluffy tail twitching as we made eye contact for a moment then it ran and vanished into the near by foliage.
Adam sighed and continued to walk Following the trail hopefully to somewhere. Around midday he stopped to rest for the last hour he noticed the trees getting less thick the trail slowly getting wider and the ground flatter. As he was consuming the magical root he smelt smoke, Smoke usually meant people people meant a bed. He hurried and consumed the ROOT and decided he was going to jog and follow the smell, The smell of food carried with the smoke even with the effects of the root he was craving an actual meal. As he continued on the trail he started to hear voices he was about to encounter people, Instinctively he reached for his harvesting tool hoping he wouldn''t need it. Adam took a deep calming breath stepping into the clearing he didn¡¯t want to scare anyone. His gaze swept over the camp, They didn¡¯t seem overly concerned by his arrival no one had drawn a weapon or shouted at him. One person a man with short cropped dark hair looked up from the fire and caught site of him, the man''s eyes narrowed and for a moment he thought the old man would make him leave but then his eyes softened. ¡°Well, well,¡± the man said his voice rough from the road. ¡°Didn¡¯t expect anyone else to be out here¡±
Adam took another step closer to the fire his heart racing ¡° I Didn¡¯t mean to intrude i smelt the smoke and thought I might get some help or directions¡± he found his voice horse with disuse.
The man gave a small, understanding nod ¡°We¡¯ve got food and a place to rest if you got some coin.¡± Coin? Adam¡¯s Mind whirled. He didn¡¯t give any coin, Maybe he could offer trade. ¡°I don¡¯t have any coins but i have herbs and can offer some healing what ever you might need.
The man raised an eyebrow, clearly intrigued ¡°Herbs, huh? Well youve got my attention we have one women who can¡¯t keep food down weve tried everything we can but we have to be on the road, We will give you food and a place to sit if you help tend to her. If you can make her better by morning you can travel with us to the next Village Sound good?¡±
Adam didn¡¯t even need to think about it. ¡°It sounds amazing thank you could you please show me to her?¡±
She looked pail, her face gaunt her hair tangled and matted with sweat. Her breathing was shallow her eyes tried to stay open when they entered the room but it was a lost cause as she drifted back off. ¡°She hasn''t been able to keep anything down for days¡± A man sitting next to her said while dabbing her forehead, ¡°Please help her¡±Ensure your favorite authors get the support they deserve. Read this novel on Royal Road.
¡°Its the wasting disease,¡± The man who brought him in said ¡°He will try his best but we all know how it ends¡± He said and walked away. Adam stepped closed to the girl studying her carefully he tried to use inspect but that didn¡¯t add any information that might help him. His mind racing though the herbs he had in his inventory. The girl needed something immediately to help her, Something that could stave off the effects of her condition long enough to help her keep something down and get to the village. He scanned his inventory landing on the bitterleafe a herb that increased the resistance to nausea maybe that with a healing herb may help. Then a feeling in the back of his mind said to grab dullroot too.
He asked around to see if anyone had a mortal but no one did so he grabbed a nearby rock and used some water to clean it just like last time. He quickly began grinding the herbs his hands steady despite the urgency he felt for the girl. Biterleafe has a sharp bitter sent to it he crushed it until it turned into a paste then added the dullroot it was more earthy but he did the same adding in the basic healing herb he added water and put it in a pot to boil it together hopefully it better infuses all the helping properties in the plants. He removed it from the fire and let it cool, when the paste was cool enough Adam approached the cot where the girl lay. ¡°This should help her¡±
The girl grimaced at the bitter taste but she swallowed, A few minutes later as adam saw her body relax and her breathing become more stable the color of her skin getting more flushed as time went on. ¡°Is she going to be okay?¡± Adam nodded ¡°The worst should be over now but make sure she drinks only water the rest of the night and we will know by morning.¡±
He walked away and sat by the fire checking the messages that appeared.

Chapter 5
Waking up under a wagon was new to Adam waking up sore was becoming his new friend at least they gave him a sheet to sleep on and a blanket to cover up with. The camp was begging to raise and break camp and he was in the way. ¡°Come on son let''s get you up and break your fast so we can get going, This convoy ain''t gonna get itself to the next village.¡± Said that man who welcomed me last night I still didn¡¯t get his name or anyone for that matter all the excitement of last night made us all forget to awkward to ask now anyway.
After some break and an apple, he was wondering why there was a wagon convoy and not just keeping everything in their inventory so he asked. ¡°Why the need for wagons why not store it in your inventory?¡± That got a snort from the old man. ¡°This must be your first time out of your home ain¡¯t it? One of the rich kids or nobles well doesn¡¯t matter much to me none, after you helped our Emma you could be a noble and I''d still be nice to ya. Well, inventory is for uncommon classes and up. Common classes or Commoners as they like to call us either have to do it this way or buy a storage device, and let''s face it I''d likely marry my Emma to a farmer brat then get my hands on one of them.¡±
Adam was shocked he thought it was common ¡°Oh Um sorry didn¡¯t mean anything by asking.¡±
The old man looks at Adam for a long minute and snorts again ¡°You know something I believe you. Then he sticks out his hand and introduces himself. My name is Travis Trader as you can tell by the name I have the common class Trader.¡± Adam grabs the hand that was offered and says im Adam umm¡ Herbalist? Im a herbalist.¡± Not saying anything else he asks ¡°So when are we due at the village?¡± The old man looks at the sky and says ¡°A little after lunch time and you''re going to ride in my wagon let''s go.¡±
Riding in the wagon was an eye-opening experience knowing he was put onto this planet to help heal and well be a herbalist he was really wishing he was an engineer right now Shocks needed to be invented badly.
Adam was scanning around for any herbs when he saw movement so he tried to inspect and all he got in return was.

But it was for naught the wolf hearing my shout as well leaped onto a man ripping his throat out and moving to the next man. He began treating anyone his first air pulled him towards while everyone not injured cleaned up one man tried to skin the wolf but couldn''t so 5 men loaded it on a wagon with the dead bodies. We started traveling toward the village more vigilant and somber than before. It was almost evening when we made it. A weathered wooden palisade encircled the settlement, with a single gate made of heavy oak a single guard stood outside when we got closer he made eye contact with each person when he made it to Adam he felt a tingle on the back of his neck and he watched the guard go pale then run into the village confused they all waited at the gate around 10 minutes a group of men most armed but one in noticeable nicer clothes approached us. When each looked Adam''s way he felt a tingle on his neck and each one got more worried. They made it to the wagon when the nicely dressed man bowed towards Adam and spoke. ¡°Good evening my lord may I ask why you have graced us with your presence and what we can do to assist you.¡±
Adam now even more confused looked around maybe he was talking to someone else realizing they were speaking to him and everyone else took his silence as bad and started to bow too he spoke quickly, ¡°Im not lord My name is Adam Herbalist im just here to rest and see if I can earn some coin by providing Herbalist service and maybe heal people if it''s needed.¡±
The man looked to relax some before raising and speaking again still respectful ¡°Of course lor¡ Adam, you may stay with me and may do as you please in the village I and the Guild leader here will show you the way and have supper with you.¡± Adam followed excited at the chance for a hot meal and an actual bed no matter what kind of conversation might come with it.
Chapter 6
After dinner, Adam¡¯s headache worsened. A few minutes into the meal, he found himself wishing he could be back in the woods, bed or no bed. The confined space and stifling atmosphere of the dinner were beginning to suffocate him. The mayor, who had greeted him at the gate earlier, still seemed to think Adam was some sort of noble, mostly because no one could inspect him. Even the guild leader, a level 50 Uncommon class, had tried and failed to get any information.
Adam had tried his best to explain without revealing too much, only telling them he was a herbalist and a low-level one at that. But it didn¡¯t help.
Things only got stranger when the guild leader pulled out a small stone¡ªa smooth rock glowing with soft white light. Adam could only watch in confusion as they muttered something under their breath, and then they ignored him for the rest of the evening.
Honestly, that silence was a relief. All he wanted now was a bed and some sleep, but that didn¡¯t seem like it would happen anytime soon.
The mayor suddenly cleared his throat, drawing Adam''s attention. "Ah, I just realized the guest bedroom is in the middle of having its floors replaced," the mayor said, almost as if he¡¯d just remembered. "But don¡¯t worry! I¡¯ve already arranged for my servant to get you a room at one of our finest inns. It¡¯s on me for the night, of course. He¡¯ll take you there now."
Adam stared, blinking. "Oh... thank you. That¡¯s... generous." The headache throbbed behind his eyes, making it harder to think clearly, but the prospect of a bed was enough to push the discomfort aside.
The servant, a young man with neat brown hair and a polite smile, stepped forward. "This way, sir."
Adam nodded, giving a half-hearted smile to the mayor and guild leader, both of whom had already turned their attention back to other matters. As he followed the servant out into the cool night air, the soft hum of the village seemed to ease the tightness in his chest. The flickering lamplights along the street gave the village an almost peaceful glow, though Adam couldn¡¯t shake the feeling that he was being watched.
As they walked, the servant glanced at him. "If you don¡¯t mind me asking, sir, what is it that brings someone like you to Galewood? No offense meant, but you don¡¯t look like a typical traveler."
Adam¡¯s headache made it hard to focus, but he responded out of habit. "I¡¯m a herbalist. Just passing through. I thought I might be able to make a little coin helping the people here."
The servant was quiet the rest of the way to the inn then he pointed and left i walked on my own from there.
Shaking off the unease, Adam pushed open the door to the inn and the smell of meat greeted me Adam walked to the man behind the bar and spoke ¡°The mayor said he got a room here for me the name is Adam.¡± he spoke up gruff ¡°Ah you were with the caravan were you the one that treated the injured?¡± Adam thought he heard hope in the man''s voice and spoke ¡°Yes i was. Im going to bed and then going to see to everyone i can starting tomorrow evening if you will let everyone know.¡± The innkeeper looked around and then moved closer to Adam. ¡°I know you must be tired but if you could see to someone tonight i can give you a silver coin i know it''s not a lot for healing but it''s all i can spare at the moment.¡± Adam tired beyond belief still agreed and followed the man up the stairs when he got someone to cover for him as we walked into a room I could smell sweat, and the innkeeper spoke up. ¡°I Heard you cured the wasting diseases my daughter has please help her and the silver is yours and you can stay here until you''ve enough coin I swear¡±
Adam looked her over and asked the innkeeper for access to the kitchen and for a mortal and pestle he led the way as Adam followed Excited to help but exhausted. ¡°Here is the kitchen and over there is a common mortal and pestle after you use it I can¡¯t for food anyway so it''s yours on top of everything else just please hurry.¡± Just like before he mixed Biterleafe, dullroot, and a basic healing herb together after cutting them up and grinding them together he added it to the boiling water then he thought about it and took out the rare Nourishment Vine and cut a small piece off before grinding it and adding it together to the water. As he removes it and lets it cool him this time he takes the water and pours it into a container he found and removes the residue that was left at the bottom and its a sappy residue that wasn¡¯t there before he inspects both.

He cleaned up and grabbed the mortal and pestle in his inventory then walked out of the kitchen and into the room where the innkeeper and his daughter waited. ¡°A quarter of this and we will wait she should get better quick.¡± After around half an hour she began to wake up while the innkeeper grabbed her and held her, Adam slipped away to his bed finally the day was over with he dropped onto the bed and decided now was a good time to take a look at the titles he got and the level up.

Chapter 7
Adam woke with a start, blinking against the sunlight that filtered through the small window of his room. He felt... surprisingly rested. It was the best sleep he¡¯d had in what seemed like weeks. His body, still sore from the previous day¡¯s ordeal, felt lighter somehow, and the headache that had plagued him last night was gone, leaving only a pleasant warmth in its place.
He stretched, groaning as his muscles popped and crackled in a satisfying way. As his arms reached above his head, his fingers brushed against the ceiling, reminding him of just how small the room was. It didn¡¯t matter, though. It was a bed. After taking a few moments to center himself, Adam rolled out of bed and went about his morning routine. His body still felt stiff.
He dressed quickly in his robes, Satisfied that everything was in order, he headed downstairs, eager to start his day. The scent of fresh bread and sizzling meat wafted up from the common room, and his stomach growled in response, reminding him that he hadn¡¯t had a proper meal since last night.
The stairs creaked beneath his feet as he made his way down the steps. The inn''s common room was warm and lively, with several people already seated and chatting over breakfast. The innkeeper, a broad-shouldered man with a permanent scowl on his face, stood near the counter, wiping a mug with a rag. The innkeeper glanced up as Adam approached, his gruff demeanor softening ever so slightly. "Ah, you¡¯re up early, herbalist. Here," he said, pulling a small leather pouch from under the counter and sliding it toward Adam. ¡°100 copper I figured it would be easy for you to shop without having to worry about finding change.¡± "Thanks," he said, slipping the pouch into his inventory. "The room was perfect. Best sleep I¡¯ve had in ages."
Adam turned away from the counter, scanning the room for a place to sit. A few people were already eating breakfast¡ªsome talking amongst themselves, others quietly reading or looking over maps. He noticed an empty table near the corner and made his way over to it, grateful for a quiet corner to himself. As he sat down, he noticed a serving girl approach him, a young woman with short, dark hair and a tired but kind expression. "Morning," she greeted him with a polite smile, jotting something down on a small notepad. "What can I get for you today?"
Adam glanced over the small chalkboard menu hanging near the counter, then looked back at her. "I¡¯ll have the scrambled eggs with sausage and toast, please. And do you have any tea?"
The girl raised an eyebrow, her lips twitching with something like surprise. "Tea? We don¡¯t normally serve tea, sir. But we¡¯ve got water or light beer to drink. You pick."
Adam¡¯s brow furrowed slightly. "Light beer? For breakfast?"
She nodded, a bemused smile playing at the corners of her mouth. "A lot of the folks around here like it. Helps get the day started."
Adam chuckled, shaking his head. "I¡¯ll stick with water, then. Tea can wait."
The girl wrote down his order with a quick flick of her wrist before turning to leave. "Water it is. Be back with your meal shortly."
While he was alone he began to plan out his day, after breakfast, he was going to go to the edge of the forest and pick some herbs before hopefully making a stall and creating some simple salves. If anyone needed healing or herbs they could buy or trade at the stall while he created salves. Hopefully, he could trade or sell enough to get all the traveling gear he wants and maybe see if a bed will fit in his inventory he smiled at that.
The serving girl returned a few moments later, balancing a tray with his breakfast. The warm, buttery aroma of the eggs and sausage hit Adam¡¯s nose, and he couldn¡¯t help but smile. It wasn¡¯t a feast, but it was more than he¡¯d had in a long time.
She set the tray down in front of him with a nod. "Here you go. Enjoy."
Adam picked up his fork and dug in, savoring the simple, hearty meal. For a few moments, he lost himself in the food, pushing aside the worries of the world. It wasn¡¯t until he took a sip of the cool water that he realized the innkeeper had approached him again.
"Hope the meal¡¯s to your liking," the innkeeper said, his tone not entirely unfriendly. "So, what are your plans for the day? You planning to stick around the village, or¡?"
Adam set his fork down, swallowing before answering. "I¡¯m planning to head into the forest," he said. "There are herbs out there I want to collect, things that could be useful. I¡¯ll also set up a small stall by the road, and see if anyone needs any healing potions or salves. If I can make a little coin, I¡¯ll use it to buy supplies for my travels. I¡¯m planning to stay in the village for a few days, at least. Make sure everyone here is taken care of."
The innkeeper nodded slowly as if considering Adam¡¯s words. "Sounds like a good plan. We could use someone like you around here. There are always people in need of healing or remedies. Just don¡¯t go getting yourself in trouble out there."
Adam smiled, grateful for the brief moment of camaraderie. "I¡¯ll be careful. No trouble here."Support the creativity of authors by visiting Royal Road for this novel and more.
The innkeeper gave a short grunt in acknowledgment. "Good. Take care of yourself, herbalist. And if you need anything, don¡¯t hesitate to ask."
After finishing his meal, Adam stood up from the table, feeling refreshed and ready to take on the day. He offered a quick nod to the innkeeper as he made his way toward the door, the cool morning air greeting him as he stepped outside. The village of Galewood was quiet at this early hour, with only a few people moving about. The steady hum of life here was comforting¡ªpeople going about their business, chatting with neighbors, preparing for the day ahead.
Adam took a deep breath and began walking down the cobbled streets, his eyes scanning the village as he moved. The wooden houses were simple, with flower boxes under the windows, and small gardens filled with vegetables. A few children played in the street, their laughter filling the air, while older women exchanged gossip in the square.
He paused by a small market stall, where an elderly woman with silver hair was arranging freshly picked vegetables. She smiled at him as he approached.
"Good morning, dear," she said warmly. "You¡¯re the herbalist, aren¡¯t you?¡±
Adam smiled back, grateful for her kind words. "Yes, that''s me. I¡¯m just walking through today. I wanted to let everyone know I¡¯ll be offering some healing salves and some other treatments this evening."
Her eyes widened slightly, and she straightened up, nodding in approval. "Well, bless your heart, we could certainly use a healer around here. Between the farmers¡¯ cuts and the occasional sprained ankle, your skills will come in handy." She leaned in a bit closer, lowering her voice. "And you¡¯ve heard about the harvest festival next week, haven¡¯t you? The village has been getting a lot of visitors, so having someone who can help with all kinds of ailments would be a blessing."
Adam nodded, thinking about the festival. "I hadn¡¯t heard about it but it sounds fun. I¡¯ll be around for a while, so I¡¯ll make sure to help out if anyone needs it."
The woman smiled. "You¡¯ll fit right in, then. Best of luck with your herbs, and don¡¯t hesitate to stop by if you need anything!"
As he reached the edge of the village, he saw the wooden palisade surrounding Galewood and the guards stationed at the gate. Two men, dressed in simple armor, stood watch, their eyes scanning the road for any potential threats. They didn¡¯t seem overly concerned, but Adam noticed their posture immediately stiffened as he approached.
"Morning," Adam greeted them, trying to keep his voice light. "I¡¯m heading into the woods just beyond the village. I¡¯ll be looking for herbs to pick, nothing too far. I¡¯ll stay within sight of the village. Just wanted to let you know."
One of the guards, a tall man with a scar running down his cheek, gave him a wary look but nodded. "Aye. Just be careful. There¡¯s been talk of wolves in the area recently just be careful i don¡¯t wanna have to bring your body back.¡±
Adam smiled, not taking offense. "No worries dude. I¡¯ll be back before you even know it."
He began scanning the forest floor, looking for any herbs he might be able to use or sell.
After a few minutes of searching, Adam spotted the familiar, low-growing plant he¡¯d seen countless times¡ªthe Basic Healing Herb. Its rounded leaves were a deep green, and its tiny white flowers looked almost fragile. He crouched down and carefully plucked a few leaves, making sure not to take too much. The herb was essential for his healing salves.
Not far from the Basic Healing Herb, he spotted another plant he recognized: Twilight Moss. It grew in thick patches on the shaded side of the trees, its soft green fronds glowing faintly in the dim light of the forest. The moss was perfect for headaches and reducing pain.
As he kept walking bending down sometimes to pick the herbs. Adam came across a new herb hes never seen before.

The Moonshade Blossom was an uncommon herb though he would have to be careful with its uses. He carefully harvested a few flowers, mindful of the delicate petals. This was definitely a plant worth remembering.
As he moved further along the stream, Adam¡¯s attention was drawn to a thick patch of leaves near the edge of the water. The leaves were large and waxy, with jagged edges, and the plant had a faint, sharp scent. He crouched down, carefully examining the plant.

He was wondering if the guild offered any information or training, after remembering how the guild leader ignored him he thought it best to look for some books to buy when he was buying traveling gear later maybe books for children he had so much to figure out, from the innkeeper at least he found 100 copper is 1 silver.
Adam made it to the village "Back already?" one of the guards called out. "Found everything you needed?" "A few things, yeah. Just about to set up a small stall for the day.¡± He continued into the village, passing the market square where people were already starting to set up for the day. Time had snuck up on him the sun was already over the mountains, casting a warm glow over the wooden stalls and homes. Children ran past him and a memory came to his mind, Bitter medicines and not wanting to take any, he needed to get something to make his stuff sweet he looked around the market and found some candies for sale. Approaching the man running the shop he speaks up when its his turn in line. ¡°Excuse me sir do you have sugar for sale as well? Or anything to make something bitter become more sweet?¡± The man must have been in a good mood because he smiled and began explaining how he made his candy blocking most of it out the man showed him a plant and said that is where he gets the sweetness from.
Inspecting the plant he smiled and bought 5 of them for 5 coppers.

He decided before to get some jars for his products so he stopped by the general store and bought them each costing him 2 coppers he got 10 of them and hoped it would be enough. The place he picked for the stall was a simple arrangement¡ªa wooden table and a few crates to hold his supplies He spread out a cloth over the table and set up his small stock of herbs in neat piles beside the jars. A few baskets contained dried plants he had gathered from previous days, ready to be mixed into potions if needed.Taken from Royal Road, this narrative should be reported if found on Amazon.
Before he could finish setting up, a few villagers had already begun to stop by. Most of them were curious at first, drawn by the sight of someone selling herbs. A woman with a small child in tow approached first.
"You¡¯re the herbalist?" she asked, looking over the table with interest. "Do you have anything for a cough? My son¡¯s been at it for a few days now, and I¡¯m not sure what to do."
Adam shook his head, ¡°I don¡¯t have anything right now but if you come back in about 10 minutes or wait ill try to make something.¡± The woman nodded and they moved to the side to wait. Pulling out the mortal and pestle he began mixing a few herbs he thought might help. After around 5 minutes of adding plants and grinding he had a powder he thought might help inspect got the response he got what he was hoping for.

Calling the woman over "This should help," he said. "It¡¯s a blend of herbs that will soothe the throat and ease the cough. It¡¯s gentle enough for children add it to boiling water then let cool until it''s safe for him to drink. Only add a pinch every 6 hours and if it''s still there in a few days come back and find me.¡± She took the jar with a grateful smile, rummaging through her purse for coins. "Thank you. How much do I owe you?"
Adam hesitated. He didn¡¯t want to overcharge the villagers, especially since he was just starting out. "How about Six Copper?" he suggested. "It¡¯s a fair price for the amount if you bring the jar back I''ll give you a copper back.¡±
The woman agreed, handing him the copper, before hurrying off with the jar to tend to her son. As Adam stood there, a feeling of satisfaction settled in his chest. It wasn¡¯t much, but it was a start, 6 Coppers richer I began making more products and waiting for more customers.
As he worked, a man approached him¡ªsomeone Adam hadn¡¯t seen before. He wore a long cloak, and his face was shadowed by the hood. He stopped at the table, eyeing the jars with a scrutinizing gaze.
"You sell these remedies to anyone?" the man asked, his voice low.
Adam paused, a bit taken aback. "Of course," he said, keeping his tone friendly but wary. "What are you looking for?"
The man glanced around, making sure no one else was paying attention. "I¡¯ve got a bit of a problem," he murmured, leaning in closer. "A wound. Been bleeding for days, no matter what I do. Do you have anything for that?"
Adam¡¯s eyes narrowed slightly. ¡°Show me," he said cautiously.
The man hesitated for a moment, then slowly pulled up his sleeve, revealing a deep gash on his arm. The wound was jagged Adam could see the muscles underneath, and the blood had already stained the cloth he had wrapped around it. Adam examined it carefully, then reached for a jar of healing salve, a blend of herbs he had made specifically for deep cuts, and applied it to the wound.
"This should help," Adam said, applying a generous amount of salve to the wound. "But if this has been open for days, it might be infected.¡± He didn¡¯t say much but pulled his sleeve down and offered Adam a small coin in exchange.
"Thanks," the man said, his voice suddenly cold. "I¡¯ll be back later." He turned quickly and disappeared into the crowd, leaving Adam with a strange feeling.
He spent the next few hours tending to his stall, offering remedies to anyone who passed by. Some villagers stopped by for simple salves, others for teas or powders. A few asked about his background, and Adam gave them the same basic answers he had shared before: that he was a low-level herbalist passing through. Only a few people ever asked what a herbalist was and he answered the best he could one guy compared me to an alchemist but instead of monster parts like an alchemist used, Adam used wired plants. Hearing Alchemis he began paying attention Turns out adventures bring monster parts back to the guild and the guild sells them to blacksmiths, alchemists, and any other trader everything from weapons to healing potions are made from monster parts the stronger the monster the better the products that why everything was so expensive.
Adam decided it was late so he started to pack up and call it a night. Checking his inventory for how much he made for the day he was sitting at 181 copper coins not bad for day one, tomorrow people will spread how well his stuff worked and hopefully make him even more busy.
He made his way back to the inn and ordered a nice dinner enjoying the warmth from the fire and listening to the rowdy group of men who were enjoying their drinks. The innkeeper approached my table with my meal and drink. ¡°You¡¯ve been busy today, herbalist. How¡¯d the stall go?¡± the innkeeper asked, giving him a quick nod. ¡°Went well. I sold quite a bit¡ªmostly salves and a few teas,¡± Adam replied.
The innkeeper nodded wished Adam a good evening and went to help other customers. Adam sat at his table enjoying his food and drink before going up to his room and sleeping for the night.
Money wasn¡¯t the only thing he gained with all the crafting he had done had earned him some nice XP.
Class: Herbalist (Level 3) 665/1000
Chapter 9
He woke early, as usual, stretching out his stiff limbs before swinging his legs off the bed and standing up. It had been a peaceful night, and even though his body was sore from yesterday¡¯s work his stronger body was definitely helping. Having earned both copper and experience he was excited to start his day. Adam walked down the stairs ¡°Morning, herbalist,¡± the innkeeper greeted him as Adam approached the counter. ¡°You¡¯re up early again. Breakfast?¡±
¡°Yeah, I¡¯ll take the usual,¡± Adam replied. ¡°And maybe a bit of extra bread today, if you have it.¡±
The innkeeper gave him a small grunt of acknowledgment and yelled the order into the kitchen. It wasn¡¯t long before his meal arrived¡ªscrambled eggs, sausage, and plenty of fresh bread. The innkeeper slid the plate toward him with a nod.
¡°There you go. Enjoy.¡±
¡°Thanks,¡± Adam said with a smile, grabbing his fork and digging in. The food was heavenly compared to his few days of eating just roots. Honestly, Adam was worried there for a while but his root bestie kept him fed until he found real people. Adam finished his meal quickly, the comfort of a warm breakfast setting his mood for the day. Adam decided before he opened his stall he was going to go back to the general store and get more jars and check out the traveling supplies he didn¡¯t want to be stuck sleeping in a tree eating roots if he could help it. Pulling out a root as he walked and rubbing it a little to get the dirt off Adam whispered ¡°Not that there was anything wrong with roots¡
The general store wasn¡¯t far from the inn, nestled at the edge of the village. It was a small, unassuming building with a wooden sign above the door that read Galewood General Goods. The store''s wide glass windows were filled with an assortment of items¡ªbaskets of dried fruits, bundles of rope, and various tools hung from the walls. Behind the counter was a stout, middle-aged woman sleeves rolled up to his elbows. She looked up as Adam entered and gave him a quick nod.
¡°Morning,¡± the shopkeeper greeted. ¡°What can I help you with today?¡±
¡°I¡¯m looking for some travel supplies,¡± Adam replied, stepping further into the shop. ¡°A tent, traveling bed? If that''s a thing maybe a map of nearby towns and villages and do you know what a kettle is? I''ll need a fire starter as well.¡±
The shopkeeper raised an eyebrow at Adam¡¯s list, clearly impressed with his thoroughness. "A kettle, eh? You must have plans for some serious travel." she leaned back slightly, looking Adam over with a thoughtful expression before nodding. "Yeah, we got all that. Let me show you what we have."
The shopkeeper walked toward a nearby corner where a selection of camping gear was displayed. As he motioned for Adam to follow, she spoke.
"A tent, a bedroll, and a kettle, I¡¯ve got those right here," the man said, gesturing toward a simple canvas tent, folded neatly beside a rolled-up woolen blanket. "The tent is durable but lightweight, perfect for the road. As for the bedroll, it¡¯s not fancy, but it¡¯ll keep you warm enough."
Adam shaking his head at the shopkeeper spoke ¡°No i mean a one-person actual bed not a bedroll it must fit into the tent and be made for travel.¡±
The shopkeeper blinked, clearly surprised by Adam''s request. She paused for a moment, considering. "Ah, I see what you''re asking for now. A portable bed, not a bedroll." She tapped her chin thoughtfully. "That''s a little less common, but I believe we¡¯ve got something that might work."
She walked over to another shelf in the corner of the shop, rummaging through a pile of more specialized gear. After a moment, she pulled out a compact, foldable cot. It had a sturdy frame, with a simple canvas cover stretched over it, and it was clearly designed to be lightweight and easy to pack.
"Here," she said, holding it up for Adam to see. "This is a portable travel cot. It folds up easily and fits inside most tents. It¡¯s not as soft as a full bed, but it¡¯ll keep you off the cold ground, and it¡¯s much more comfortable than a bedroll." She demonstrated by folding it out, showing him how it could easily be set up and taken down.
¡°How much is it?¡± Adam asked, already mentally calculating whether it would fit in his budget.
The shopkeeper glanced at the cot, then back at Adam. "It¡¯s 2 Silver and with the rest of the supplies together ill do it all for 3 Silver and 55 Copper.¡±
Adam paused, his fingers tapping lightly on the counter as he thought for a moment. He had 181 Copper witch was almost 2 Silver he was a bit short. "Uh, I just realized," Adam said, offering a sheepish smile. "I don¡¯t quite have enough for everything.¡±
The shopkeeper, seeing his hesitation, raised an eyebrow but then gave a thoughtful look. ¡°I can make a deal with you if you¡¯re short. How about this? I¡¯ll hold the bed for you for a couple of days, and you can pay me the rest when you¡¯ve got it. I¡¯m sure you¡¯re good for it. Or, if you¡¯re pressed for copper, I¡¯ve got a few other options you could consider¡± She winked at Adam ¡°that could make up the difference.¡±If you encounter this tale on Amazon, note that it''s taken without the author''s consent. Report it.
¡°I think I can manage to scrape together the last bit by opening my stall today,¡± Adam said, smiling at the shopkeeper while slowly backing away towards the exit.
The shopkeeper gave a slight nod, she started chuckling. ¡°Of course. You seem like a man who¡¯s got some plans. Just come back when you¡¯re ready, no rush. I¡¯ll have the cot set aside for you. And if you need anything else, just let me know.¡±
As Adam set up his stall once again in the familiar clearing near the village square The wooden table, cloth, and baskets were becoming a familiar setup to the villagers, and the jars of salves, teas, and powders lined the surface neatly. He arranged his products carefully, making sure to display his new offerings¡ªa few jars of the cold relief tea, some sweetened powders for those who needed a little more flavor, and his healing salves, which had sold well yesterday. It wasn¡¯t long before the first few villagers began to wander up, curious as always. Adam greeted them warmly, offering explanations for each of his products, and selling a few things here and there. But then, something unexpected happened. As he was finishing up with a small family who had just bought a jar of healing balm, he noticed people starting to gather behind them. At first, it was just a couple of people, but then more began to trickle in, drawn by the sight of his setup. The crowd was growing steadily, and before long, there was a sizable line forming at his stall.
Adam smiled at the young woman who approached, noticing the playful glint in her eyes. "Anything I can help with today?" she asked, her voice light but tinged with a touch of humor. "Maybe something for... you know, the monthly attacks?" she asked, making air quotes with her fingers.
Adam laughed, his expression friendly and a bit teasing. "Actually, I do have something for that," he replied, his voice lowering a little in a conspiratorial manner. "I¡¯ve got a special blend that should help."
He quickly reached for a small jar labeled with a simple tag: Monthly Relief Tea. As he opened it, he revealed a fine powder made from a blend of herbs, including Moonvine and Sweetleaf. He scooped out a small amount into a paper packet, tying it up neatly.
"This here is a mix of Moonvine and Sweetleaf," Adam explained, his tone light but serious as he spoke about the herbs. "Moonvine is known to help with cramps and other things that happen once a month. Only drink a cup when cramps start back up.¡± The woman nodded, a grateful smile spreading across her face as she reached into her coin pouch. "I¡¯ll take it, then. Sounds like it¡¯s exactly what I¡¯ve been looking for how much?¡± Adam thought well since its not life threatening it will be 15 copper a jar and ill give 1 copper back if you bring the jar back.¡± The young girl laughed and spoke ¡°Its not life threatening he says¡± Muttering under he breath he barely heard her as she paid and leaves. ¡°Must never have been a woman¡±
As other people heard the discussion i soon had a riot of woman and girls pushing their way forward to buy more some Adam had to turn away until he could grind more before the day was even over he ran out of the herb having to tell everyone he wasn¡¯t going to open tomorrow to pick more herbs all day he would be back the next day. Adam packed up his stall, counting the coins in his pouch with a satisfied grin. It had been a busy but successful day. The word was spreading, and he was starting to build a steady customer base. Tomorrow, he would pick herbs and relax compared to this woman are scary he was going to hide in the woods tomorrow with some roots.
As he rests in bed he checks out the notifications he ignored all day.

Chapter 10
Adam woke with the first light poking its head through the window With a quiet grunt, he swung his legs off the bed and stood, taking a deep breath. His body wasn¡¯t yet fully rested, but he felt ready to tackle the day, there were herbs to be gathered. Deciding to skip breakfast and get started He grabbed a small root from his inventory and began chewing on it as he dressed.
After gathering his things and making sure everything was in order he headed downstairs. ¡°Morning, herbalist,¡± the innkeeper called out from behind the counter, offering a gruff but friendly greeting as Adam passed by.
Adam nodded and waved in response, not stopping to chat. He had a busy day ahead. He still needed to pick up and pay for his traveling supplies. As he stepped out into the cool morning air, Adam made his way to the general store. The streets were still quiet, the sun just beginning to rise higher in the sky, and the villagers were only just starting to stir. The shopkeeper had said she¡¯d have everything ready for him. The bell above the door jingled as Adam entered the store, and he found the shopkeeper behind the counter, already busy organizing her wares.
¡°Ah, you¡¯re here early,¡± she said, looking up with a raised eyebrow. ¡°Got everything you need, or are you planning on buying more?¡±
Adam shook his head with a small grin. ¡°Unless you have some children learning books just what I asked for,¡± he said, pulling out the copper and handing it to her. ¡°The tent, bed, kettle, and fire starter.¡±
She handed him the carefully packed items, making sure everything was neatly bundled. Adam nodded in thanks, then slung the bundles over his shoulder. With the supplies now in hand, he turned to leave, before she spoke up again. ¡°I have some of my child''s old books they arn¡¯t for sale but maybe we can discuss trade?¡± She said grinning. Adam stored the bundle into his inventory and went to negotiate. They negotiated for around half an hour and Adam left with the books feeling dirty but more relaxed muttering. ¡°Women are scary.¡±

Negotiation Level 2
Adam was suppressed but that made him feel better. With new books and everything else he thought he needed just missing one Lifebloom Leaf he made his way to the gate waving at the guards started walking to a part of the woods he hadn¡¯t been in yet.
His plan was simple¡ªspend the day in the woods, and if necessary, stay the night. He¡¯d taken the time to prepare and ensure he had the right tools with him. The bed and tent would come in handy, and with his growing skill as a herbalist, he was eager to see what new herbs he could find. While walking he inspected everything the shopkeeper gave him. One item he didn¡¯t ask for was a dagger longer then his harvesting tool this one was actually a combat weapon he decided to keep it out so put it in his robes.

Effect: A standard dagger. Can be used for basic combat. It¡¯s quick, lightweight, and ideal for close-range, fast strikes. Can be easily concealed and is commonly used for stealth or self-defense.
With a confident stride, Adam entered the woods, ready to collect all the herbs he could find. After several hours, Adam found himself deeper in the forest the path becoming less clear. Adam had picked a lot of herbs nothing new but still restocking was nice As he moved forward, the forest began to change. The trees became older, with thick trunks and tangled roots. The air had a different feel. Adam felt a strange pull in the air, a subtle but constant energy that seemed to hum through the trees.
He took a deep breath, trying to shake off the unease that began to creep up his spine. This part of the forest felt different. More...wild.
He couldn¡¯t explain why, but he felt that the forest had something it wanted to show him. Then, just as he was about to continue on his way, he heard a rustling sound. It was soft at first, like an animal moving through the brush, but it seemed to come from deeper in the forest, beyond the trees.
Instinctively, Adam¡¯s hand went to the dagger at his side, his heart rate picking up. Was it an animal? Or something else?
The rustling continued, louder now, and it was accompanied by what sounded like low muttering, though the words were too quiet to understand. Adam stepped back behind a thick tree, trying to stay hidden as he peered into the forest. The narrative has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.
Adam¡¯s heart raced as he crouched behind the tree, his breath shallow as he waited for whatever was lurking in the forest to appear. His hand was tight on the hilt of his dagger, ready to spring into action. The rustling grew louder, closer. He could hear the soft thud of footsteps, a low muttering that he couldn¡¯t quite make out. He focused, narrowing his eyes, prepared to strike.
Suddenly, the creature burst through the underbrush, and Adam¡¯s breath caught in his throat.
A large rabbit¡ªat least twice the size of any normal rabbit¡ªleapt into view, its fur sleek and dark as it hopped towards him. The creature had a strange, glimmering horn jutting out from the center of its forehead, and as it moved closer, Adam caught a glimpse of its unnaturally red eyes. It was almost... unnerving.
Adam stood up, his face flushed with embarrassment. Of course, it was just a rabbit. He couldn¡¯t help but laugh at himself, letting out a breath he hadn¡¯t realized he was holding.
"Well, that was a little dramatic," Adam muttered to himself, shaking his head.
The rabbit froze mid-hop and turned its head sharply to look at him. Its blood-red eyes glowed ominously as its playful demeanor shifted to something far more predatory. Adam¡¯s laughter died in his throat as he suddenly realized something wasn¡¯t right. The rabbit¡¯s eyes were wild, its mouth dripping with saliva, and in an instant, it lunged forward, a low growl rumbling from its throat.
Adam¡¯s instincts kicked in. He dove to the side, narrowly avoiding the rabbit¡¯s sharp claws, which scraped against the dirt where he had been standing. His heart pounded as he rolled to his feet, dagger in hand. The rabbit was faster than he¡¯d expected, its movements a blur of fur and sharp teeth.
He barely had time to think. The creature¡¯s claws flashed as it swiped again, and this time, Adam wasn¡¯t quick enough. One of the claws grazed his arm, leaving a sharp sting as the rabbit¡¯s momentum carried it past him. Adam gritted his teeth, his arm throbbing with pain.

Adam swallowed hard. He couldn¡¯t see its health but a patron? Confused but he will save it for later. He steadied his breath, positioning himself for the next attack. The rabbit darted toward him again, its claws flashing like daggers. Adam was ready. At the last moment, he sidestepped, his dagger slashing through the air and narrowly missing the rabbit¡¯s hide. The creature spun on its heels, faster than Adam could react, and lashed out with its claws once more.
This time, Adam was ready. He rolled forward, ducking under the rabbit¡¯s attack, and brought his dagger up, aiming for the creature¡¯s underbelly. The blade sank into the soft fur, but it barely made a dent.

Adam¡¯s breathing became labored as he stood up, his legs shaking from the force of the impact. He couldn¡¯t keep this up much longer. The rabbit was relentless. He had the HP but for how long? How close was he to killing this rabbit? The wolf wasn¡¯t this hard. He glanced around, eyes darting for anything he could use to his advantage. His gaze landed on a thick branch lying nearby. Without hesitation, he rushed toward it, scooping it up in his hands. If he couldn¡¯t defeat it head-on, he¡¯d have to outsmart it.
The rabbit growled, its eyes flashing with fury as it charged once more. Adam gritted his teeth, raising the branch above his head, and just as the rabbit leapt toward him, he swung it with all his strength. It wasn¡¯t a homerun but it did the trick.
The branch collided with the rabbit¡¯s side with a sickening thud, knocking it off balance. The beast screeched in fury, but Adam didn¡¯t give it a chance to recover. He launched himself forward, dagger in hand.
This time, when he struck it he kept stabbing and stabbing. The blade sank deep into the rabbit¡¯s side, and after what felt like a full minute it let out a final, pitiful screech before collapsing to the ground.

As he drew closer, the tunnel opened up into a large chamber. The ground was uneven, with jagged rocks protruding from the floor, and in the center of the chamber stood a large, pulsating crystal. Instincts kicking in, Adam ducked under the first swing just in time, the force of the blow leaving a crack in the stone where it landed. His heart pounded in his chest, and he quickly assessed the situation. The Crystal Guardian was slow but incredibly powerful, and he could already see the energy building up in the crystal in the center of the room. It seemed to be charging some kind of attack.
Adam didn¡¯t hesitate. His Battle Instincts flared, and he felt time slow down just enough to avoid the deadly beam of energy that shot toward him from the crystal. He darted to the side, barely missing the beam, which scorched the floor where he had been standing The Guardian let out a low growl, its body crackling with energy. It was preparing another attack, but this time, Adam knew he had to act. His eyes darted to the glowing crystal again. If he could take out the source of the energy, maybe he could weaken the Guardia because he was honest with himself, There was no was his daggers were going to get through the Guardians crystal skin. He bolted forward, using his speed and the terrain to his advantage. He weaved between the jagged rocks, avoiding another swing from the Guardian''s fist. Reaching the crystal, Adam raised his dagger and plunged it into the core of the glowing gem.

Critical hit! Crystal weak point struck. Dungeon Guardian¡¯s power is weakening.
The crystal cracked under the force of his strike, and the Guardian¡¯s movements faltered and its rocks started falling to the ground leaving an opening. Adam saw his opportunity. With the Guardian''s attack patterns slowing, he launched himself forward, slashing at its legs to destabilize it. The Guardian let out a roar, stumbling backward as cracks began to form across its body.
With one last burst of energy, Adam leaped up, driving his dagger into the heart of the Guardian''s chest. The crystal guardian let out a final roar of frustration before shattering into pieces, the remnants falling to the floor in a pile of broken stone and glowing fragments.

Adam took a deep breath, trying to calm his racing heart. The adrenaline was still coursing through him, but as he looked over the drops from the defeated Crystal Guardian, he couldn¡¯t help but feel a sense of accomplishment. This dungeon was proving to be far more dangerous than he had anticipated, but it was also full of rewards.
He crouched down, inspecting each of the items carefully:

Chewing on Dullroot to help his stamina he decided to push forward. As Adam ventured deeper into the dungeon, the corridors seemed to grow more oppressive, the walls pressing in around him. The eerie stillness was broken only by the occasional distant rumble or faint whisper in the air¡ªsounds that set his nerves on edge. The further he walked, the more it felt like something was watching him.
Finally, he came upon a large cavern-like room. The floor was uneven, littered with strange glowing mushrooms and plants he¡¯d never seen before. He bent down to harvast a mushroom he thought might be useful when a rumble took his attention on instinct he used inspect and took off running down a tunnel he hasn¡¯t been in yet the reason.

He ran into two more Crystal Guardians luckely one at a time and already knowing how to take them out quickly it made for some easier fights. Take out the glowing crystal thing that powers them, push them to the grownd until enough of the rock armer falls off then finish them by staby staby a few dozen times. After all his fights and running away from the scary lava monster he was exhausted. Adam decided he was going to look for a out of the way place and try to get some sleep. He wouldn¡¯t pull out his bed but sleep on the ground just incase something found him while he was resting. Finding a large crack in the wall he decided that would have to do he climbed in and wrapped himself in the blanket he got at the genral good store and went to bed.
Chapter 12
Adam slowly woke the ground beneath him was unforgiving, but he¡¯d made do with what he had. A dull throb of soreness worked its way through his body, a reminder of the battle he¡¯d fought earlier. He chewed on a piece of Healing Herb, the bitter taste spreading through his mouth. It wasn¡¯t the most pleasant thing, but the sharp relief that came as the herb worked its magic was amazing.
After taking a moment to get his bearings, Adam decided he was going to stay in his crack for a while. Removing a herb that had a lot of oils inside of it he ground it up removing the plant after getting the oil out he removed a piece of cloth from his inventory and dipped it into the oil removing his fire started and trying to light it, at first nothing happened but after a minute he had a faint light, it wasn¡¯t as bright as a candle but good enough to read by.

His eyes fell on the small stack of books in his inventory, he¡¯d picked up during his visit to the general goods shop. One of them stood out to him Understanding the System for Children. Just what he needed.
He flipped the book open and began reading.
Understanding the System for Children
The System is a guiding force, a universal tool that adjusts itself to each individual¡¯s needs. It provides a structured progression, tracking and guiding individuals through their journey in this world.
Common Classes typically gain between 2-5 attribute points depending on their class. These points are automatically assigned based on the class chosen, reflecting the strengths of that role. For example:
- Farmers gain +1 Strength and +1 Dexterity.
- Lumberjacks may gain +2 Strength and +1 Constitution.
- Cooks receive +1 Dexterity and +1 Charisma.
Regardless of the class, the maximum a Common Class can achieve is 5 points per level. Every 5 levels, the commoners also gain 1 additional point of their choice to distribute as they see fit. This allows some flexibility in customization as they progress.
Adam nodded, beginning to understand how the System worked for most common folk. It was a straightforward progression system, one designed to keep people within the general scope of their class strengths.
Uncommon Classes: These classes are less common hence the name, and their growth potential is far more significant. While Common Classes are restricted to gaining only up to 5 attribute points per level, Uncommon Classes can gain up to 10 points per level, allowing for greater customization and specialization. The rare classes are considered to be the most powerful¡ªrare, mysterious, and often unpredictable.
Rare Classes and Subclasses: For those who hold a Rare Class, not only do they gain more attribute points per level, but they also unlock the potential to gain a subclass. A subclass is a specialization within the main class, giving the individual a more focused path with additional abilities, but also with unique challenges. The most famous case of this came from a boy whose class was named, The Catalyst.
The boy, whose name was lost to history, was said to have been able to amplify the abilities of others and even create new abilities, though the true power of his class remains a mystery. This rare occurrence is considered the peak of class evolution, but no one has seen such a class in centuries.
Combat vs. Non-Combat Classes: There are two types of classes in this world: Combat and Non-Combat. Combat classes gain the majority of their experience points (XP) through fighting¡ªwhether in dungeons, hunting, or any form of combat. Non-combat classes, on the other hand, gain XP through crafting, creating, and other non-violent methods. However, the one exception to this rule is dungeons. No matter your class, if you are in a dungeon and kill something, you receive full XP for that kill.
Adam was no stranger to that concept. His time in the dungeon so far had shown him that XP wasn¡¯t something to take for granted. Even though he was a Non-Combat class, it seemed like dungeons leveled the playing field. It was probably one of the only reasons he was still alive.
The next page revealed some information about abilities and skills, but Adam paused. His mind was racing with new ideas and possibilities. He received 15 Attribute points spread out to all the attributes 2 were stat points he could assign himself he took that for granted adding it to dexterity for the stamina.
The name page explained a lot as well.
Stats and how they effect you:
HP Regeneration (Health Regeneration)
HP regeneration is based on a combination of Strength and Vitality, and the formula is:
HP Regeneration = (Strength + Vitality) ¡Â 10
- Strength and Vitality contribute to how quickly you regenerate your health over time.
- The sum of both is divided by 10, so if you have higher Strength or Vitality, your HP will regenerate faster.
MP Regeneration (Mana Regeneration)
MP regeneration depends on a mix of Intelligence and Wisdom, and the formula is:If you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen from Royal Road. Please report it.
MP Regeneration = (Intelligence + Wisdom) ¡Â 10
- Intelligence and Wisdom are the key stats for regenerating MP. Higher values in either stat allow you to recover more mana.
Stamina Regeneration (Stamina Recovery)
Stamina regeneration is influenced by Strength, Dexterity, and Vitality. The formula is:
Stamina Regeneration = (Strength + Dexterity + Vitality) ¡Â 10
- Strength, Dexterity, and Vitality all play a part in how quickly you recover stamina. The higher these stats, the faster your stamina regenerates.
HP (Health Points)
HP is determined by Vitality:
- The more Vitality you have, the more health you have overall. It¡¯s a direct multiplier.
Stamina
Stamina is determined by Dexterity:
- Stamina = Dexterity ¡Á 10
- More Dexterity means more stamina for combat, running, and other actions.
MP (Mana Points)
MP is determined by Wisdom:
- More Wisdom gives you more mana for spells and abilities that use it.
Adam wanted to explore the dungeon more looking for a way out. Whatever force pulled him in here he didn¡¯t want to mess with if that evil lava-looking monster was any comparison. He decided to put the book away for now and read more tonight he took out a root and started chewing not even worried about the dirt anymore. The only constant in his life were his robes tools and roots.
Adam put out the fire and packed up, He would explore and find a way out of this place. He was supposed to open his stall today and help the villagers it didn¡¯t look like he would get to do that now. Adam crawled out of the crack he slept in and continued to walk. As he walked he came across a Crystal guardian again with practiced ease he attacked its weakness and just dodged its pitiful attacks until he became weak then he dropped it to its knees and waited till he saw an opening the stabby stabbed it to death.

Hostile Entity:
Gem Skelleton (rare) (Mini-boss)
Level: 15
HP: 500/500
Comment: He liked to be called Gem Skellington and there is nothing mini about him. Good luck.
He ran away again, This time with a plan as he was running he realized if he got too far Gem would go back to the room so he decided to use taunt. Each time Gem would start leaving he would use taunt and then run away again Adams''s plan was simple if he could pull it off, lure Gem to the crack Adam slept in and when Gem started to walk away when Adam was out of site he would attack from behind and push Gem face first into the crack Since he was bigger then Adam and the crack wasn¡¯t as wide the further in you went Gem should get stuck. If not Adam thought he could still run away.
Adam triggered taunt and The Gem Skeleton turned toward him, its glowing eyes narrowing as it locked onto Adam. The massive creature lumbered toward him with a speed that belied its size. Adam sprinted ahead, weaving through the dungeon tunnels, making sure to stay just out of range of its swinging attacks. Adam''s mind was focused, staying one step ahead. Each time the Gem Skeleton started to turn back, Adam would quickly trigger Taunt again, forcing the creature to follow him.
The journey took a while, but eventually, Adam reached the narrow crack he had slept in earlier. He slowed his pace, glancing over his shoulder to see if the Gem Skeleton was still on his tail. Sure enough, it was. As the Gem Skeleton neared the crack, Adam took a deep breath. The creature turned and began to walk away, likely thinking Adam had gotten too far. This was his moment.
Without hesitation, Adam darted forward and leaped at the Gem Skeleton¡¯s back, his hands gripping his dagger. He jabbed it into the creature¡¯s spine as it turned, yelling out a battle cry. The Gem Skeleton, caught off guard, let out a bone-chilling screech, its head jerking backward.

It resisted, but Adam¡¯s smaller frame allowed him to nudge the skeleton into position. The harder he pushed, the more the creature became wedged. A few moments later, Adam had successfully forced the Gem Skeleton into the crack, its massive body wedged tight.
For a moment, Adam paused, catching his breath. He had pulled it off. The creature couldn¡¯t move, its struggle only made it more trapped.

Rare Boots: Ruby Soles

Passive Effect: Grants +10% Movement Speed When wearing these shoes you can¡¯t slip and will resize to fit the wearer.
Additional Effect: When activated (once per day), the shoes allow the user to "Click" their heels together, triggering a Teleportation effect. This effect teleports the user up to 30 meters to a location within line of sight. This effect has a 24-hour cooldown.
Durability: 150/150
Special Effect: When the shoes are worn, the user hears the faint sounds of a melody every time they activate their teleportation. This doesn¡¯t impact combat and only the wearer can hear it.
Adam could do without the bright red color and the obvious reference to a movie. The melody might be nice, but he kind of missed the music. Not being able to Slip on something was a nice effect but the teleporting is what made him the most excited. Adam reached down taking off his ragged boots and putting these on.

Level 5 reached gained Ability token.
Adam was excited to use the Ability token but he wanted to hold off and read more of the books he had to make sure he wasn¡¯t going to make a mistake but in order to do that he needed to find a new safe place to hide so he had to keep moving into the dungeon.
Before setting off, Adam knelt to inspect his new boots one last time. As expected, they fit snugly, but it wasn¡¯t just about comfort. The Teleportation effect would prove invaluable if things got bad. 30 meters of teleportation was a significant distance, even in this dark labyrinth. If he needed to escape, or maybe reposition quickly, this could be the edge he needed.
Adam kept moving, careful with each step. The narrow passage stretched ahead The faint sound of dripping water echoed through the tunnel, but it was soon replaced by a subtle, almost imperceptible rustling. Adam¡¯s eyes narrowed as he slowed his pace, crouching slightly to get a better view.
There, near the foot of the wall, just before the path branched into another tight corridor, he spotted something unusual¡ªgreen tendrils spiraling up the stone, tiny yellow buds dotting the tops like little lanterns.

As he did, the little buds glowed softly, casting faint blue light in the dimness of the tunnel. The herb''s glow was a welcome sight in the otherwise dark area.
Adam moved further, more aware of his surroundings now, as if the very stones themselves might hold secrets. He spotted something else to his left: a cluster of blue mushrooms growing along the rocky floor. Their caps were dark and seemed to pulsate, the colors swirling as though alive.

Abilities:
Abilities are special powers granted by your class, and they are far more powerful than skills. These abilities are what set your class apart and determine how you excel in combat, exploration, or other activities.
Class Abilities:
- Every class has its own unique set of abilities that make them strong or specialized in certain areas.
- Abilities can be unlocked, enhanced, or strengthened through Class Ability Shards, leveling up, and other special conditions.
- Class Abilities generally don¡¯t require MP or Stamina to use (although some may), but they are based on your class''s nature (combat, crafting, magic, etc.).
Example:
- A Warrior might have an ability like "Power Strike", where they perform a heavy blow to deal massive damage.
- A Healer might have "Healing Touch", which restores a large amount of HP over time.
- A Scout might have "Stealth", allowing them to move undetected for a period of time.
Upgrading Abilities:
- Abilities can improve over time as you level up or gain certain resources like Class Ability Shards.
- Class Ability Shards can unlock new abilities or enhance existing ones. For example, you might get the "Power Strike" ability to do 150% damage instead of 100% damage
"How Do You Unlock a Subclass?"
Here¡¯s the trick: subclasses are not handed out easily. You have to prove you¡¯re worthy of them! In order to unlock a subclass, you need to:
- Need to have a Rare class:
- Reach Level 10 in your Base ClassThis shows you¡¯ve got the experience and dedication to take the next step.
- Complete a Special TrialThe System will give you a clue when you''re ready. It could be a dungeon, a quest, or even a major battle. This trial will test your limits and push you further than you¡¯ve ever been before. Only by completing it will you unlock your subclass potential.
- Choose Wisely Once you¡¯ve passed the trial, you¡¯ll be presented with several subclass options. Each one offers different skills and abilities. This choice will define the rest of your journey¡ªpick carefully!
Decided that was enough he chose to use his Ability token.

Wanting to try something new before making the toxin just in case the cleaning takes a while and he doesn''t want to deal with that type of cross-contamination. He wanted to try making a potion.

Before going off to keep looking for a way out he decided he was going to try and access his Garden and plant some herbs he was worried about running out of roots being trapped in here.
Meditating was harder he Adam expected it to be but after an hour of trying he entered his garden space. Adam sat down cross-legged on the cold stone floor of the dungeon and closed his eyes, focusing deeply. As if a door opened in his mind, he felt a sudden shift. It was like stepping into a different world entirely.
Adam stood in the center of the garden, taking in the expanse of fertile soil around him. Though everything was calm and peaceful here, his mind was focused on the task at hand. The time dilation of this space was his greatest advantage. He needed to grow these herbs quickly¡ªespecially the Sustenance Root and Nourishment Vine, which he hoped would grow quickly in his experience you couldn¡¯t have to much food or in this case roots and vines.
He was beginning to feel the pressure of being trapped in this dungeon, and the resources he gathered here would help keep him from running out of supplies too soon. He really felt bad for not being able to keep his promises to the villagers and would try to make it up to everyone when he got back, focusing on his task again he continued. Adam decided to plant a mix of everything but put extra focus on the Sustenance Root and Nourishment Vine to get a solid foundation for his nutrition. Adam knelt down and began to carefully plant each herb in neat rows. The soil seemed to respond to his touch, becoming soft and yielding as he dug small holes for each seed. His hands worked quickly, placing each herb carefully into the ground.
Soon Adam received a notification.

Adam''s eyes widened as he realized the potential of this new skill. The time he spent here in his Garden Space would be even more productive. Adam stood up and wiped his brow, admiring the small rows of freshly planted herbs. There was still something tranquil about this space, even in the face of danger. He could feel a slight hum of energy beneath the soil, as if the garden was already starting to respond to what he had planted.
Adam took a deep breath as he stepped out of the Garden Space He scanned the area to ensure there were no threats nearby before focusing on the task ahead. Pulling out the Enchanted Cauldron, he made sure it was clean of any previous toxins. After confirming it was clean, he channeled mana into the cauldron, filling it with water. Once he was satisfied with the water level, he infused more mana to heat it up. The cauldron responded quickly, the water beginning to boil with a soft glow emanating from its sides.
With the water heating up, Adam grabbed the mortar and pestle and placed the Luminescent Ivy on the grinding surface. The ivy leaves glowed faintly as he ground them into a fine powder. When the water was boiling, he carefully poured the boiling water into the kettle he bought and added the powder into it. The glowing ivy dissolved quickly, turning the liquid into a shimmering, silvery-blue brew. The scent was earthy, and the brew itself emitted a soft, calming aura as it continued to steep. Pulling out his crystal cup he received on his first fight in the dungeon after pouring a helping into the cup and the rest into the remaining potion bottles he checked his message.

His surroundings came into clearer view, and he could make out details that had been dark spots just moments before. Relieved by the newfound clarity, he decided to keep moving, walking cautiously through the tunnels. Adam kept his eyes peeled for any useful resources. After some time, he spotted a plant he hadn¡¯t seen before The vibrant gold petals stood out even more in the now enhanced lighting, catching his attention. He carefully approached and identified the herb.

Adam couldn¡¯t help but smile, pleased with his find. This would be useful for keeping his MP topped off during long dungeon dives. The thought of crafting a MP-restoring tonic filled him with new hope, but before he could harvest the blossoms, a deep roar echoed through the tunnel, sending a chill down his spine.
Before he could react, something hard slammed into his back. Pain shot through his body as he stumbled forward, caught completely off guard. His vision wavered for a split second as he whirled around, preparing for whatever had struck him.

As Adam spun around, the impact from behind still reverberating through his body, he quickly surveyed his surroundings. His heart raced, the adrenaline from the surprise attack flooding his system. He saw the source of the assault emerging from the shadows¡ªa massive creature, its body covered in dark, jagged scales, and its eyes gleaming with a predatory hunger.

Behemoth (Dungeon Variant)
Level: 15
Rarity: Rare
HP: 1200/1200
The creature was a Dungeon Behemoth, its hulking form far larger than any standard monster he had faced before. Its claws, sharp as obsidian, glinted under the dim light of the dungeon, and the air around it felt thick with menace.
Adam cursed under his breath, trying to steady himself. He quickly assessed his situation. His body ached from the surprise hit but he still had his wits, his inventory, and the enhancements from his Illuminating Tea to aid him. His eyes quickly flicked over to his blade, still sheathed at his side.
He reached for it, drawing the weapon with swift, practiced motion, feeling the weight of it in his hand as he stepped into a more defensive stance.
The Behemoth let out another roar, and Adam¡¯s heart hammered in his chest. He could tell that this thing wasn¡¯t going to go down easily. His Sedative Venom of Focused Weakness would be his best chance of slowing it down, but he needed to get close enough to apply it without being pulverized by its claws.
Pulling out an Elixir of Focused Resilience and dollroot and drinking it down while chewing on the root he needed every advantage. As the Behemoth charged, Adam¡¯s instincts took over. He rolled to the side, narrowly dodging the massive beast¡¯s swiping claws, and immediately felt the pulse of his Elixir of Focused Resilience kick in. His mind sharpened, the world slowing around him, giving him a brief but crucial edge.
He saw his opening.
Dashing forward, Adam aimed to strike the Behemoth''s exposed underbelly with his blade and swung with all the power he could muster. It connected but left only a scratch but that would allow the toxin to begin taking effect.
Toxin, Herbs, and Alchemy¡ªthose were his strengths. Not raw combat. He needed to rely on the Sedative Venom of Focused Weakness and use the dungeon¡¯s environment to his advantage.
His dashed behind a rock cover As he crouched down behind the boulders, his mind worked furiously. The Behemoth¡¯s heavy steps shook the ground as it roared in frustration, trying to find him.
Adam¡¯s hands trembled as he reached into his bag and pulled out a Healing Herb¡ªhe needed to keep his health topped off in case things got worse. As he chewed the herb, his HP slowly began to recover, but he didn¡¯t have the luxury of taking it easy. He needed to act fast. Adam wiped his brow, taking a deep breath as he reached for the remaining vials in his inventory. The Elixir of Focused Resilience was still coursing through his veins, sharpening his mind, but the Healing Herb had only done so much. The Behemoth was still too strong and too fast for him to rely on his durability alone.
Adam noticed the Behemoth shifting its attention back toward him, but its vision was still skewed. He saw his moment.
The monster let out another confused roar as it turned, its massive body slower and more staggered now. Adam charged forward and darted behind it. He moved quickly, landing a precise slash across its exposed leg, just below the knee joint, and the blade cut deep. The Behemoth let out a haggard growl, its eyes clouding even further as the Sedative Venom seeped into its system. The massive creature staggered slightly, the toxin starting to take effect. It paused mid-swing, blinking in confusion, then tried to lash out at the empty space before it, its claws slashing nothing.
Adam quickly pulled back, retreating toward his cover behind another boulder. His breath was coming fast, his body aching from the effort, but the small success lifted his spirits. The Behemoth was disoriented, and its strength was slowly starting to diminish.
Still, Adam wasn¡¯t safe yet. The Behemoth charged forward blindly, its massive feet pounding the ground as it tried to close in on him. He dodged to the side at the last second, narrowly avoiding being flattened as the Behemoth crashed into the boulders, shaking them violently.
He stumbled but quickly regained his footing. His hands were already reaching for another Healing Herb, and he stuffed it into his mouth, the cool, medicinal flavor calming the pain in his side. He could feel the healing working
The Behemoth let out a confused grunt, its eyes flickering wildly as it turned back to face Adam, once more slashing at the air and backhanding him.
Adam gritted his teeth after being hit trying to catch his breath. The toxin was definitely having an effect now¡ªthe Behemoth was slower, its attacks more erratic. Its roar was less menacing, a hollow sound of frustration, and its strikes were wild, missing by wide margins.
Adam surged forward again, blade in hand. He ran circles around the Behemoth, dodging its wildly thrown punches and using the momentum of its own confusion to strike from behind. His blade found purchase in the Behemoth¡¯s shoulder, and the creature¡¯s screech echoed through the dungeon, more of a howl of agony than rage now.
The monster swayed on its feet, its movements growing more sluggish
the Behemoth, unable to focus, turned in circles, slashing at shadows. It tried to roar again, but its voice was hoarse and weak.Royal Road is the home of this novel. Visit there to read the original and support the author.
Adam knew this was the endgame. The Behemoth was vulnerable now, its strength almost completely drained, but Adam still had to land the killing blow. His heart pounded as he saw the Behemoth¡¯s uncoordinated movements¡ªhe could finish it now if he was careful.
With one final dash, Adam leapt up, catching the Behemoth off guard as it swung in the opposite direction. His blade came down in a quick arc, piercing the creature¡¯s neck and severing an artery.
The Behemoth let out one last, ragged breath before collapsing to the ground with a deafening crash. Its massive body hit the floor with a resounding thud, and Adam staggered backward, catching his breath as he watched the life leave the creature''s eyes. The fight was over.
Adam took a few unsteady steps back and collapsed on the ground exhausted.

Chapter 16
Adam sat in his Garden Sanctuary looking at his herbs; being surrounded by his growing herbs relaxed Adam in a way he never knew he needed. Being forced into this dungeon and looking for away out was stressful; so far he''s handled it well but he wanted to push through and get out of here. Instinctive Awareness and Battle Instincts, together now, gave him a sense of connection to his surroundings, a feeling of knowing before he acted. He was more in tune with the world around him than he had ever been before. Adam opened his eyes after a few long minutes, his body feeling restored from the bruises and exhaustion of the fight. His mind was sharper, and the tension from the Behemoth battle had all but disappeared. He reached out and gently touched the Nourishment Vines and Sustenance Roots he had planted earlier. They had already begun sprouting, their vibrant colors signaling new growth. He gave them a quiet nod of approval before standing up and stretching, the last bit of fatigue slipping away.
Adam opened his eyes outside of his garden sanctuary He began to make his way down the winding corridors, keeping his senses alert, the environment around him clearer thanks to his Instinctive Awareness. The deeper he ventured, the more apparent the danger became. He wasn¡¯t sure what to expect¡ªevery time he thought he had a handle on things, the dungeon would throw something unexpected his way but Adam figured he should expect it. The legendary difficulty upgrade and whatever sucked him in here. His skills were growing, and his body was adapting. Even so, there was a creeping unease in his gut.
The faint rustle ahead grew louder, a skittering sound that made his hair stand on end, the familiar weight of his blade reassuring in his hand Adam decided to wait on moving forward and apply his toxin on his blade just to make sure it was still effective. Then, just as he rounded a corner, a flicker of movement exploded from the darkness A creature, half-hidden in shadow, lunged at him, a blend of insect and reptile, with multiple legs and glowing eyes that reflected the dim light-like shards of glass. Its body was sleek, built for speed, and its pincers clicked menacingly as it moved.

It staggered, its movements slowing as the toxin took hold. Adam didn¡¯t waste a second. With a quick leap, he closed the distance between them and delivered a precise strike to the creature¡¯s exposed side. His blade sunk deep into the soft tissue, and the creature screeched, rearing back before collapsing into a heap. The creature twitched for a moment before dying.

Creature Type: Serpentine / Feline Hybrid

HP 1000/1000
Adam¡¯s breath caught in his throat as the creature looked at him the Abyssal Chimera hissed, a low, guttural sound that reverberated through the cavernous corridor. He had only a moment to react. The Instinctive Awareness coursed through him, heightening his senses to their peak. He could see the creature¡¯s movements The Chimera lunged, its enormous claws swiping through the air. Adam rolled to the side, narrowly avoiding the deadly strike. His Dodge skill came into play, and he was already on his feet, moving with fluid grace. He had to think fast. The creature¡¯s sheer size made it formidable, but Adam knew his strengths lay in using Dexterity and his toxins to outsmart enemies like this.
He reached for his Sedative Venom and coated his blade in the viscous substance. The Chimera screeched, its claws scraping against the stone as it spun to face him, its glowing eyes narrowing.
¡°Let¡¯s see how you handle this,¡± Adam muttered under his breath, his heart pounding. He waited for the creature to strike again, but this time, he was ready. The Chimera lunged with a speed that before this would have been impossible for him to follow. With a well-timed leap, he soared over the creature¡¯s massive form, his blade coming down in a quick, decisive strike.
The blade sank into the Chimera¡¯s back, and the creature howled in pain For a split second, it stumbled, and Adam could see the telltale signs of the toxin starting to take effect. Its movements slowed, its eyes flickering as the Sedative Venom began to cloud its senses. But Adam didn¡¯t wait for it to recover. He knew that a creature of this power wouldn¡¯t be taken down so easily. He darted behind a pillar, using his surroundings to stay out of the Chimera¡¯s line of sight as he strategized his next move.
He took a deep breath, focusing his thoughts. His Pain Resistance was helping him endure the battle, but he wasn¡¯t out of the woods yet. The Chimera¡¯s roar echoed through the dungeon, but it was weaker now
Adam reached into his inventory and pulled out a Healing Herb, chewing on it quickly as his HP started to regenerate. He felt a wave of renewed strength as his body healed The Chimera, disoriented and slower now, swung its tail wildly, trying to strike at anything in its path. Adam took advantage of its confusion, darting around it and landing another precise blow to its flank. The creature hissed, its massive body twitching As the Chimera collapsed to the ground with a deafening crash, Adam knew it wasn¡¯t finished yet. He could feel the pressure building, the tension thick in the air. He readied himself, focusing on the creature¡¯s every movement With a leap, he closed the distance, his blade coming down hard on the creature¡¯s neck. The Abyssal Chimera let out one final, pitiful screech as its head fell to the ground with a sickening thud.
The dungeon fell silent, and Adam staggered back, his chest heaving with exhaustion. He had done it.
But before he could take another breath, a faint rustling echoed from the far end of the corridor, quickly followed by the unmistakable sound of skittering feet.
Adam¡¯s eyes widened as the hairs on the back of his neck stood on end. His Instinctive Awareness flared to life, and he immediately understood the danger. More creatures¡ªthere was no time to waste. He was already battered and drained from his fight with the Chimera, and he knew that if he didn¡¯t prepare quickly, whatever was coming would catch him off guard. This story is posted elsewhere by the author. Help them out by reading the authentic version.
His hand shot to his inventory, pulling out the remaining Stamina Potion and Healing Potion he had gotten at the beginning of the dungeon. He hadn¡¯t needed them yet, but if there was ever a time he needed it, it was now. After this Adam was going to treat himself to some calming tea and eat some root-senpi did he mention how much he hated this place?
Adam uncorked the Stamina Potion first, downing it in one swift motion. The bitter liquid burned as it slid down his throat, but the surge of energy that followed was instantaneous. His muscles felt less fatigued, his body brimming with energy like the best energy drink. He immediately followed up with the Healing Potion, which had a cool, soothing effect as it began knitting his wounds together. His HP surged back, the healing process working fast.
He gripped his small blade tightly and stuck a healing herb and Dullroot in his mouth ready to chew when he needed it.

He landed on the other side The Venomous Dungeon Scuttler let out a screech of frustration as it turned to him. Meanwhile, the larger Armored Dungeon Behemoth trudged forward, its massive claws dragging along the stone floor. He pushed forward and cut the Armored Behemoth before dodging away letting his toxin get inside the creature and wait for it to kick in. That was when he heard it more creatures coming thinking quickly he looked towards the hall he came from and clicked his boots using his teleporting ability to get out of there. As he appears he leaps further trying to get out of the creature''s line of site if possible without looking behind he just keeps running until he was too tired to keep going and collapsed to the floor exhausted.
Waking up he jumped up ready to fight not for the first time, this dungeon was making him go crazy. Pulling out his creation set up as he started referring to all his tools. He made more of everything he used up during his fights. He was going to hunt everything that hunted him all the while looking for the exit to this place as he has been doing.

It was going in circles around the sapling before plopping down and closing its eyes. Adam watched it and waited. His normal tactics of luring it away using taunt won¡¯t work. And with how thick its scales looked, he couldn¡¯t just cut it and pray for the best. Suddenly he got a crazy but brilliant idea and a notification but ignored it, wanting to focus on his new plan.
Being as quiet as possible, he crept up towards the creature. His plan was simple and brilliant. Every time the creature breathed out, its mouth would open. He was going to walk up to this creature and drop a load of poison down its throat. Honestly, it was a brilliant plan and as he pulled everything from his inventory at once all his mushrooms and toxins, and dropped it all in its mouth in one go his plan worked it swallowed it all. Slight problem, though: It woke up when it swallowed it all, and it breathed fire because why wouldn¡¯t it? As he screamed, he had the mind process of clicking his boots and teleporting out. It wasn¡¯t home, but the tunnel he arrived in was nice. He rolled on the floor putting out the fire, and as he got up, he consumed a health potion and got ready for a fight, but as he did, the dragon just kind of dropped to the ground. Taking a look, it was on the ground asleep.

With careful precision, Adam worked his hands beneath the sapling, his movements deliberate to avoid damaging the roots. It wasn¡¯t an easy task, and the sapling¡¯s resistance made it feel like the tree itself knew what he was doing.
With a final tug, Adam lifted the sapling from its bed of earth, cradling it in his hands as if it were something fragile and irreplaceable. His garden sanctuary could now become the birthplace of a future legend. He turned toward the small, fertile patch of land he had cultivated within the sanctuary. The garden was already filled with herbs and plants, but the Legendary Sapling would be its crown jewel for now. Adam carefully planted the tree, whispering a few words of encouragement as he buried its roots in the rich soil of his garden The magic within the sanctuary would allow it to grow at an accelerated rate, though Adam knew that it would still take time before the sapling would bear fruit.
Once it was planted, he stepped back and just took it all in "It¡¯ll be worth it," Adam murmured to himself, his mind already thinking of how he could care for it. The tree might not bear fruit for a while, but with his careful nurturing and the power of his Garden Sanctuary, he knew it would one day.
For now, he turned his attention back to the rest of the dungeon; he needed to resupply and recreate everything he had used for the fight with the dragonkin and look for anything else that may give him an edge against whatever this boss was. He was going to get out of here.
Pulling out a sustenance root, aka his favorite food in the world, he started chewing while looking for his next herb or victim.
Chapter 19
Adam hunted more for herbs than anything else; he found some nice new herbs he hadn¡¯t come across before.
[SYSTEM MESSAGE]
Herb Name: Emberroot
Rarity: Uncommon
Effect: When used in potions or tonics, Emberroot creates a warming effect that temporarily increases fire resistance and boosts the user''s vitality by 5% for 30 minutes. It can also be used in poisons to deal fire damage over time, slowly burning the target.
He came across some of his old herbs and sat down to prepare more potions and toxins, most of them the same as before. But when he picked up an ember-root, an idea struck him¡ªwhat if he could fuse it into his usual battle toxin, Sedative Venom of Focused Weakness?
At first, when he added the ember-root powder to the toxin, he failed and lost both; he then decided to try adding it during the brewing process. After a couple of attempts to get the mixture just right, he got an alert.
[SYSTEM MESSAGE]
Item Created: Toxin: Sedative Venom of Ember
- Stackable: Yes
- Rarity: Rare+
- Effect: This newly crafted toxin is a potent blend of the disorienting properties of Sedative Venom of Focused Weakness and the fiery devastation of Emberroot. When applied to a blade, it delivers a fierce combination of intense fire damage and debilitating sedation. The toxin first engulfs the target in a burning burst, weakening their physical strength, followed by a mentally clouding effect that reduces their ability to resist further attacks.
Toxin Effect Breakdown:
- Fiery Ignite: Upon contact with the target, the toxin bursts in a flame of burning fury, dealing Fire Damage (30) immediately. The fire causes severe pain for 2 seconds, momentarily overwhelming the target with the sensation of burning. Burning activates losing 1 hp per second 10 Seconds.
- Mental Clouding & Physical Weakness: After the initial fire damage, the toxin¡¯s sedative properties take hold. The target experiences mental disorientation, with hallucinations and dizziness clouding their thoughts. Their strength and defenses are drastically reduced by 50% for 10 seconds, leaving them vulnerable to follow-up strikes.
- Staggering Effect: The target is left dazed and sluggish; their movement speed and reaction times are significantly reduced for 10 seconds after the fire effect fades, allowing for easy follow-up attacks or escape.
- Stacking Effect: When multiple doses are applied or successive attacks hit, the fire damage and weakness are compounded, significantly increasing the time of the disorientation effect.
Crafting Ingredients:
- Nightshade Vine (Rare) ¨C A deadly, poisonous plant that enhances the toxin¡¯s ability to induce hallucinations and severe weakness.
- Wraithcap Mushrooms (Uncommon) ¨C These mushrooms amplify the mental fog and sedation effects, making the toxin not just painful, but also mentally incapacitating.
- Moonshade Blossom (Common) ¨C A flower known for its calming properties, which helps to prolong the target¡¯s mental confusion and weakness.
- Emberroot (Rare) ¨C A plant with fiery properties that adds explosive fire damage to the toxin, allowing it to burn through defenses and weaken the target before the sedation sets in.

A lot of growth has come a long way since being dragged into this horrible place; some good is finally coming out of this. Between all the levels and his garden, he would be jumping for joy, but he knew what he really needed to be doing right now. And that was getting his damage shard maxed at 3000 damage. Absorbed, sadly, Adam knew what creature was best for that: the acid slime he ran away from a few days ago. He was going to hunt it down and let it damage him over and over and over until the shard had its 3000 damage.
Taking out the item just to make sure he understood exactly what it did.
Item: Shard of DamageRarity: RareEffect:
- This shard can be bound to a target, absorbing a portion of the damage dealt to it. The maximum amount of damage it can absorb is 3000 damage.
- Once the maximum damage is absorbed, the shard becomes unstable.

Yep, this was not going to be fun. Checking out his stat page before the hunt left him feeling proud of where he has come.

Finding the slime was the easy part, but letting it deal damage to him was rough; he had to pull back whenever he dropped around 200 HP Every time it struck, Adam¡¯s body spasmed in pain, his skin burning from the slime¡¯s corrosive touch. The pain was unbearable until he leveled pain resistance. He would run away and heal fully, then run back at it. He could feel the shard drawing in the damage but he still took the damage as well. Another hit from the slime made Adam wince, his HP dropping sharply. He barely managed to roll away, checking the shard. only 800 damage was left His muscles burned from the constant impact Despite the overwhelming pain, Adam was excited that once this was over and he recovered, it was off to fight whatever this hole in the ground had for a boss. With only 300 damage needed to be absorbed, something attacked the slime, with only 220 HP Adam leaped away and something Chased him; it was too late to really run away to safety so he did what he thought was smart and ran to the boss''s door. As he was doing that, he pulled out an HP potion and dullroot and consumed them. 2700 damage would have to work; he would just absorb more during the boss fight if he needed too. The Siren of the Abyss was a towering figure, her body a nightmarish blend of sleek, aquatic grace and deadly predatory intent. Her eyes locked onto his; her eyes were darker than almost anything Adam had seen. It might have affected him more if not for his brief stay in an actual abyss. Before he could react, the Siren''s voice rang out again, sharp, a melody that sliced through his thoughts like a blade. His vision blurred, and his body seemed to hesitate, a creeping numbness crawling up his spine.

Adam shook his head violently, forcing himself to escape her influence. It wasn''t easy¡ªsomething was intoxicating about her, something that made him want to surrender. But he couldn''t. He wouldn''t.
He summoned his [Shard of damage], the jagged crystal pulsing with raw energy. He aimed and threw it with everything he had.
The Shard cut through the air like a lightning bolt, streaking toward the Siren with terrifying speed. She turned her head, eyes widening in surprise just before the Shard struck her chest with a violent burst of power.

Her confidence and demeanor faltered briefly, and her energy visibly cracked under the assault. But the moment was short-lived. Her eyes flared with fury as she twisted her body, and a low, guttural growl escaped her lips.
Before Adam could react, the air around him thickened once again, and her voice rang out in a commanding, otherworldly melody. Her gaze locked onto him, and he could feel the familiar pull of Emotional Manipulation wrapping around his thoughts, trying to tighten its grip.
[SYSTEM MESSAGE]
You are experiencing Emotional Manipulation. Resistance required.
A wave of dizziness hit him, his senses beginning to blur as her influence crept through his mind, threatening to drag him under once more. His heart hammered in his chest. He could already feel his limbs growing sluggish, his willpower slipping. The feeling was suffocating, and he would lose himself to her control if he didn''t act quickly.
But Adam wasn''t about to give in. He used his ring of purity, gaining his sense of self back, and decided he would wait for her to think he was still under her effects and wait for her to get near.
She moved in closer, her tendrils swaying gently behind her as she drew near, unaware that Adam was pretending to remain under her control. This was the moment he''d been waiting for.
Adam''s hand shot out the instant she was within striking range, drawing his Toxin: Sedative Venom of Ember-coated blade with lightning speed. He slashed across her chest, the blade cutting deep into her watery, abyssal form.

Damage: 30 Fire Damage immediately.
Burning effect activated¡ª1 HP lost per second for 10 seconds.
The Siren screeched as the fire erupted across her body, flames licking at her skin as the toxin began its work. Her graceful form jerked back, the agony of the fire momentarily overwhelming her. He used the chance to swipe a couple more times, dealing 90 more damage and getting the sack up to 4hp lost per second for 10 seconds.
Her movements became erratic, her tendrils flailing wildly as her concentration fractured under the toxic venom. Adam grinned; his plan was working.
One of her tendrils lashed out and hit Adam in the chest. Dodging at the last minute helped mitigate most of the damage, but it still sent him across the room; he quickly drank another HP Postion and stamina potion. Using Leap, he got back in the fight, making sure to keep dodging her tendrils while keeping her infected with the toxin. When she got below 500HP, Darkness surrounded her, and he couldn''t see anymore. His instincts kicked in. She couldn''t be far, and he needed to remain on alert. He could still hear her movements¡ªher tendrils dragging along the floor, the soft water ripple slithering through the air. The Darkness pressed in, heavy and oppressive, but Adam''s senses were sharpened, his body bracing for an attack. A faint disturbance in the air to his right caught his attention. Adam pivoted, slamming his shoulder into the side of the nearest pillar for cover. The Siren was getting closer. He waited, listening intently for the faintest clue of her next move.
Then¡ªwhoosh! A sharp tendril whipped through the space where he had been standing a moment before. Adam dove to the left, narrowly avoiding the strike, and he sprang to his feet just in time to see the Siren''s massive shadow flicker against the arena''s walls. He could see her now, just a silhouette, her body writhing through the shadowy mist. Adam''s grip tightened around the hilt of his blade. She was weakened, her physical strength halved by the toxin, but her speed was still a threat. He had to land the finishing blow before she could recover fully.
He cast Leap again, propelling himself through the Darkness and launching himself high into the air. His heart raced as his eyes scanned the dark void, looking for any sign of movement. Then, from below, the telltale whoosh of her tendrils slashing upward caught his attention.
He twisted mid-air, narrowly avoiding the strike, and landed with a roll to soften the impact. His Shard of Perception guided him as he sprinted toward where he had felt the most potent concentration of movement.
[SYSTEM MESSAGE]
The toxin effect continues at 4 HP per second. Remaining time: 7 seconds.
He could hear her gasping now, her once-steadfast breath ragged, barely able to hold her form together as the venom slowly drained her strength. Adam didn''t hesitate. He knew the window was closing fast.
He drew his blade again in one fluid motion, his body flowing like water, a deadly dance. He struck before she could react¡ªa precise, diagonal slash across her abdomen, the Toxin: Sedative Venom of Ember flaring to life once more as it cut deep. The Siren screamed a high-pitched wail that echoed through the arena, but it was not one of power this time. It was a scream of agony, one that rattled Adam''s bones. He had her. Her health was almost gone, but she was still dangerous, her form shuddering violently in the wake of the hit. The last of her strength began slipping away with every second.
The abyssal Darkness around them grew restless, tendrils of shadow swirling erratically. Adam barely had time to react as one of them lunged toward him, nearly catching him off guard. But his Leap skill was still in cooldown, and he dodged out of the way, rolling to avoid the strike.
That''s when he saw a final, fleeting glimmer of light from her darkened form. She was vulnerable. She was losing her hold on the abyss. Taking a deep breath, Adam charged, his blade raised high. He closed the distance between them in a heartbeat. As the Siren''s tendrils lashed out one last time, Adam dodged and, with a roar of determination, plunged his blade deep into her core, the poison burning through her body with one final burst.

Done here now, he exited the dungeon appearing in the forest where he was sucked in. After taking a deep breath, he sprinted towards the village. He wanted a beer and a bed, but he also needed people.
When he left the village, the guards saw him running, pulling weapons, and making it to the gate. Adam, assuming they didn''t recognize him after weeks in that dungeon, slowed and yelled, "It''s me, Adam, the herbalist. "Yeah? We know you didn''t stay in the forest long. What''s chasing you? "
Adam, confused, asked, "How long was I gone."
"Around 12 hours," the guard responds. Adam throws them a silver. He jogs to the inn, ignoring the strange looks and people trying to talk to him. He runs to his room and goes to sleep. He will deal with this in the morning.
Chapter 21
Adam''s eyes snapped open, and a noise close to him woke him. Disoriented, he reached for his weapon, ready for a fight. Instead of a monster he was prepared to face, all he saw was a serving girl bringing in his washing water. The vase of water hit the ground, and the serving girl ran away screaming. He was back in the inn, not the cold, crushing depths of the dungeon.
He sat up, rubbing his eyes as the events of his forced introduction to dungeon diving came back to him. He had arrived at the village gates last night, and the guards said he was only gone for 12 hours. But he had been in the dungeon for at least a few weeks¡ªhe had lost track of time down there, with no way to measure it. How could only hours have passed when everything had changed for him?

A knock at the door broke Adam¡¯s spiral of thoughts. He spoke, ¡°Come in.¡±
The innkeeper walked in with a man and a girl Adam hadn¡¯t seen before. The innkeeper was upset and spoke first.
"Adam, I know you helped my daughter, but pulling a knife on Lissa was too much. I don¡¯t know what has gotten into you since you¡¯ve come back, but it¡¯s obvious something has happened. The guards were here drinking after their shift, and they spoke about your haggard appearance and how confused you were. If you need to talk, I¡¯ll be here for you, but if you ever pull a knife on anyone under my roof again, you¡¯re gone.¡±
Adam shook his head. ¡°I¡¯m sorry. I¡¯ll apologize to Lissa and explain myself to you later. On another note, who are these people you have with you?¡±
Adam was still processing the shift in reality, from the dungeon to the village. He couldn¡¯t blame the innkeeper for being concerned. Adam, too, felt like something had changed within him, but it was hard to understand exactly what. He had spent more time in the dungeon than he had in this village with these people.
The innkeeper spoke, ¡°These people have been waiting for you. I¡¯ll let them introduce themselves while I bring up your new wash water.¡±
The man with him was dressed in a white robe that looked as if it had just been made, with gold threads woven through it. He spoke first.
"I¡¯m Father Cole from the church. I¡¯ve heard about your... talents."
A case of literary theft: this tale is not rightfully on Amazon; if you see it, report the violation.
Father Cole didn¡¯t miss a beat. ¡°You¡¯ve been healing people, yes? Helping those in need, offering your gifts freely. Admirable, but it¡¯s not the best use of your talents. You see, there¡¯s a way to do this work more efficiently¡ªand more effectively¡ªthat can help a great deal more people.¡±
Adam¡¯s brow furrowed. ¡°And what¡¯s that supposed to mean?¡±
Father Cole¡¯s smile was sharp, almost predatory. ¡°The church has resources, infrastructure, and connections. We have a way to ensure that skilled healers like you can have a far greater impact¡ªby focusing on those who can provide something in return. Imagine being able to heal those who can truly benefit from your work¡ªthose who can afford it or whose needs align with our priorities. In return, we¡¯ll ensure you''re well compensated, and your work will truly make a difference.¡±
Adam felt a flicker of unease. ¡°So, you want to pick and choose who I help based on their wealth or importance?¡±
Father Cole¡¯s smile never wavered as he spoke. ¡°No. We heal all who can contribute to the cause we believe in. But I''ll give you time to think it over, and when you''re ready to accept, just come to the church. It''s very dangerous out there for anyone with a healing gift to be alone.¡± And with that, he walked out.
As Father Cole exited, Adam saw red. It took all he had to pull a Moonshade Blossom from his inventory to help calm himself so he wouldn¡¯t attack the Father from behind. After chewing on it for a moment, he felt calmer. He turned to the last person in the room¡ªa young girl, or teen, for all he could tell¡ªwho was looking at him.
¡°Uh, hello, sir,¡± she said, her voice quiet but determined. ¡°I¡¯m... I¡¯m Lafayette, and I was wondering if I could speak with you for a moment.¡±
Adam glanced up, still a little unsettled from the earlier conversation, but he nodded. ¡°Of course.¡±
Lafayette stepped inside, her hands fidgeting with the fabric in her arms. She shifted awkwardly as she looked at him. ¡°I, um... I heard you were planning on leaving, and I wanted to ask if¡ªif maybe I could... um, tag along with you?¡±
She spoke quickly, as if all the words had been bottled up inside her and she couldn¡¯t get them out fast enough. ¡°I don¡¯t need much, just food, really. I heard about you from some of the people in the village. They said you helped kill a wolf on the road, and they said you¡¯re really strong and that you¡¯ve been helping people, and I, well, I thought maybe I could be of some help too! I could run errands or help with whatever you need. Maybe I could learn some skills, like... like how to heal or maybe clean things for you. I¡ª¡±
¡°Whoa, whoa,¡± Adam interrupted, raising his hands. ¡°Slow down, Lafayette. One thing at a time.¡±
Lafayette¡¯s face flushed even more, but she pressed on. ¡°Right. Sorry. I just... I don¡¯t know what else to do. I don¡¯t have much of a choice.¡±
Adam raised an eyebrow. "Why do you want to travel with me? I¡¯m not going to be around villages all the time. And sometimes, when I heal, I don¡¯t make much money, so I can¡¯t really pay you."
Lafayette¡¯s expression shifted, a faint sadness flickering in her eyes. She hesitated for a moment, then said, almost in a whisper, ¡°Well, I... I¡¯m about to turn 13. And when you turn 13, they either send you off to an apprenticeship or... or you get kicked out. I¡¯m an orphan, so I don¡¯t really have anywhere to go. I don¡¯t have a class yet, so I can¡¯t really do much. And the only offer I¡¯ve gotten so far is from Father Cole, but he just wants me to be his ¡®assistant¡¯¡ªand that doesn¡¯t seem like something I want to do.¡±
Her voice grew a little stronger now, though there was still a hint of uncertainty. ¡°I know I¡¯m not strong or skilled like you, but I can learn. I can help however I can. I just don¡¯t want to be alone out there, and I don¡¯t want to end up on the streets.¡±
He sighed softly, running a hand through his hair. "Look, Lafayette... I understand where you''re coming from. It¡¯s not easy, but I can¡¯t promise you money, and you¡¯ll have to be ready for a lot of traveling and a lot of hard work. I have roots, so we won¡¯t starve, but there may be times when that is all we eat.¡±
Lafayette nodded eagerly, her face lighting up as if she had expected this response. "I know. But I''m willing to do whatever it takes. Even if it¡¯s just carrying things or cooking or cleaning, or anything at all, just... please, let me come with you."
Adam hesitated for a moment longer, the weight of her situation pressing on him. He had never been one to turn his back on someone in need. All of a sudden, he had an idea to just give the girl some money and ask the villagers he healed today to help her, but then he heard the voice in his head¡ªone he thought he wouldn¡¯t hear again.
Airmed¡¯s voice boomed in his mind. ¡°Take her with you; protect her; teach her.¡±
The word teach echoed in his mind, making this decision easier. He was going to repay Airmed for this life.
"Alright," he said finally, a reluctant smile forming. "You can come with me. But you¡¯ll have to pull your weight, Lafayette. And if you want to learn something useful, we¡¯ll figure it out as we go. But just know this isn¡¯t going to be easy."
Lafayette¡¯s face lit up with relief, and she quickly nodded. "Thank you! I promise I won¡¯t let you down."
Adam gave a small chuckle, shaking his head. "You don¡¯t have to promise that just yet, kid. You haven¡¯t even seen what I¡¯m like on the road. Lafayette is too long of a name to be calling you all the time. How do you feel about being called Faya"
Chapter 22
Adam stepped out of his room and into the common area. He sent Faya out so he could get ready for the day. As he moved toward the table, he noticed Lafayette, or Faya, sitting at one of the benches. She was holding her hands nervously. Her clothes, though clean, were fraying at the edges. The fabric was thin, the seams barely holding together in places. It was clear she didn¡¯t have much, but she made do. Adam''s heart gave a tug. He had made the right decision, even if it literally took divine intervention for him to do so; he chuckled at the thought.
He gave a small nod of acknowledgment as he took his seat across from her. "Are you hungry?"
Faya nodded eagerly, a little too quickly, as if she had been waiting for the offer. "Yes, sir. I¡¯ll eat whatever you have."
Adam smiled softly. "It¡¯s just breakfast, but it should be enough to get us through the morning." He motioned for the server who was bustling around behind the counter. The server brought over a simple meal of bread, cheese, and a bowl of porridge. The hearty meal was a far cry from the stuff Adam was forced to eat in the dungeon; his roots had provided enough for him, but he always had a craving for something more, so at times he tried eating the monsters, and each time he was rewarded with the worst-tasting stuff he could imagine. Adam, shaking off the memory, decided to enjoy his meal.
As they ate, Adam couldn¡¯t help but notice that Faya seemed distracted. She was picking at her food more than eating, her gaze occasionally drifting to the window, as if she were expecting something. Adam, not one to pressure, let her be. But he did notice the way her clothes pulled at the edges with every movement. It was clear she was going to need some new clothes, and soon.
Once breakfast was finished, Adam stood, wiping his hands on his pants. "I¡¯ll go speak to Lissa. I owe her an apology." He made his way over to the inn¡¯s other server, who was sitting behind the bar, looking a little wary but determined as she cleaned some mugs.
"Hey, Lissa," Adam said, his tone more gentle than before. "I owe you an apology for what happened yesterday. I was out of sorts, and it was wrong of me to pull a knife on you. I¡¯ll make sure it doesn¡¯t happen again."
Lissa glanced up at him, her eyes still guarded, but her expression softened slightly. "I appreciate the apology, Adam," she said quietly. "I don¡¯t know what¡¯s been going on with you since you came back, but you¡¯re a good man. Just... please, don¡¯t scare me like that again." Adam nodded, his expression sincere. He reached into his pouch and pulled out a handful of coppers. "Here, take this as a tip. It¡¯s the least I can do to make up for scaring you."
Lissa hesitated for a moment before accepting the coins, her eyes lingering on Adam¡¯s face, searching for something. Finally, she tucked the coppers into her apron and gave him a small, tentative smile. "Thanks, Adam. Now get out of here so I can help my other customers.¡±
He gave her a reassuring nod and turned back to Faya.
As he returned to the table, he found Faya still sitting there, her head slightly tilted as she watched the exchange between him and Lissa.
"Alright, Faya," Adam began, sitting down across from her. "We¡¯ve got a busy day ahead. First things first, I¡¯m going to open up my stall and offer my services. I¡¯ll be working with herbs and potions, and I¡¯m going to need some help.¡±
Faya¡¯s eyes lit up. "I¡¯ll do whatever you need, Adam. I¡¯m ready."
Adam nodded, his gaze serious. "Good. You¡¯ll need to help with setting up, organizing the herbs, and handling the customers when they come by.
Faya leaned forward eagerly, her excitement clear. "I¡¯ll do my best to learn everything you can teach me."
Adam and Faya walked down the road together. The village was starting to wake up, and the market square ahead was bustling with activity. As they drew closer to his normal spot, Adam noticed something that made him pause. A large crowd had gathered in front of his stall, people talking in hushed voices and standing shoulder to shoulder. At first, Adam thought someone else had taken his place, but the guard standing at the front of the crowd made him think otherwise.
The guard was a tall man, wearing the village¡¯s standard uniform. He was speaking in a calm but firm voice, gesturing for the crowd to stay in order and not block the road. Adam could hear bits of his words carried by the wind as they approached.
"Please, no pushing. Stay in line, and don¡¯t block the road," the guard said, his voice carrying a tone of practiced authority. "The herbalist will be here soon; I''m sure everyone will get their turn. Just be patient.¡±
He leaned in and asked the person closest to him, a young woman with a torn sleeve and a deep gash on her arm, what was going on.
The woman, her face pale with exhaustion, glanced up at him. Her voice was hoarse, like she had been speaking too much or shouting over the noise. ¡°These are refugees,¡± she said, looking over her shoulder at the crowd, ¡°from the border villages. They¡¯ve been hit hard by the war.¡±
Adam¡¯s frown deepened. War? What war?
¡°The neighboring country¡ª¡± the woman continued, her voice trembling slightly, ¡°they¡¯re attacking the border villages. The war just started. Apparently, an oracle from their country predicted that a new dungeon would open up near here soon, and they wanted to claim the land for themselves. They¡¯re fighting to take control of the dungeon so they can have it for their country. They believe it will give them... a system''s perks. They want to control the dungeon.¡± The woman paused, taking a ragged breath, before continuing. ¡°These people, we¡¯ve all been hurt in the raids. Our villages... we barely escaped with our lives. A lot of us... we don¡¯t have much left. But we heard there was a healer here, someone who charges what people can afford. So we came, and he isn¡¯t here.¡±
He looked back at Faya, who stood quietly beside him, eyes wide with concern. She had no idea what he had just learned, but the tension in the air seemed to be affecting her as well.
Adam took a deep breath and approached the crowd, stepping forward with a calm authority. The guard noticed him and nodded, recognizing him immediately.
"Adam, right?" The guard¡¯s tone was firm but polite. "They have been waiting for you. I''ll be nearby to make sure they let you work.¡±
Adam scanned the crowd, seeing men and women, children even, all with varying degrees of injury. Some had shallow cuts, while others bore more serious wounds from the raids. The severity of it all hit him harder than he expected. He called Faya over and explained to her and the crowd that he was going to walk and look at all of them and organize them by severity; the worse off will be treated first. Looking over at Faya, Adam handed her a bundle of Moonshade Blossom and sent her to hand everyone who was hurting one to chew on while they waited; it would lessen the pain and calm them down a little.

Adam set to work, moving from person to person, applying salves, bandaging wounds, and offering whatever little help he could. He wasn¡¯t the best healer, but his alchemical skills and knowledge of herbs went a long way. He could already see some of the pain easing from the faces of the refugees, their breathing becoming less labored as he worked and as Faya made everyone chew on the herbs. A few rougher men tried to grab more than the one they were given, but Faya, much to Adam''s shock, put them right in their place. It might have helped that when it was their turn, Adam accidentally put his whole thumb right in one of their wounds when he was applying a salve.
The day dragged on, the heat of the sun rising high in the sky. The line of people never seemed to end, but Adam pushed through, helping as many as he could. Faya was a quick learner, and she proved to be a capable assistant, handing him supplies and organizing the herbs with care.
For the few who had coins to offer, Adam charged the minimum he needed to keep everything running¡ªbarely enough to replenish his supplies. But more often than not, the refugees had little to give in return for the healing they received. But that was okay with Adam; he was gaining a lot and felt great for being able to help so many.
For those who couldn¡¯t pay, Adam didn¡¯t turn them away. But instead of charging a fee, he accepted what they could offer in exchange¡ªsometimes an old, worn trinket, a few pieces of dried meat, or a handful of herbs they had picked on their journey. One man, his arm in a makeshift sling, offered Adam an old map, the edges torn and the ink faded. ¡°This is the route I took to get here,¡± he said. ¡°It might be useful for someone. You can have it.¡±
Adam glanced at the map, folding it in half and slipping it into his pocket. It wasn¡¯t much, but the gesture was meaningful. Sometimes the trade wasn¡¯t in goods but in knowledge.
But there were moments when Adam refused outright. He couldn¡¯t accept everything people offered. One young girl around seven, her face battered and bruised, handed him a small pouch. ¡°It¡¯s all I have,¡± she said, tears falling to the ground, her voice strained. ¡°Please, take it.¡± ¡°I can¡¯t accept this,¡± he said softly. ¡°It¡¯s all you have left, isn¡¯t it?¡±
She nodded, her eyes downcast. Adam closed the pouch after slipping a single silver into it and pushed it back into her hands. ¡°You need this more than I do,¡± he said. ¡°I¡¯ll help you today, and you don¡¯t owe me a thing.¡± Faya stood by his side, watching and helping where she could.
Adam felt the exhaustion of the day settling in. He wiped the sweat from his brow and handed Faya another pouch of herbs. "Alright, Faya," he said, his voice tired but firm. "We¡¯ve done what we can for today. Let¡¯s close up the stall and gather what we¡¯ve earned; I need to go to a few shops before it¡¯s too late and grab some items for tomorrow and start making arrangements for our travels. Faya nodded her head, but Adam noticed how tired she looked.
Faya nodded, but her eyes were still focused on the people around them. "Are we going to do this again tomorrow?" Adam glanced over the refugees. We¡¯ll keep doing it as long as people need help. And as long as we can keep ourselves going, we¡¯ll be there for them.
Adam dragged Faya to the general goods store, hoping his lady shopkeeper wasn''t there, but knowing his luck, she was.
After stocking up with items they ran out of today, they were walking back to the inn when Adam remembered Faya''s clothes. The child was too exhausted to notice them change directions until we walked into the tailor. The sign above the door read "Finely Woven," the shop known for crafting everything from simple traveling gear to elegant attire. Adam opened the door, the faint jingle of the bell signaling their arrival.
A woman, middle-aged with soft brown curls tied back in a neat bun, looked up from her sewing. Her hands paused, and she gave them a polite, welcoming smile. ¡°Good evening,¡± she greeted them. ¡°How may I help you today?¡±
¡°Good evening,¡± Adam replied, stepping forward. ¡°I¡¯d like to get a few outfits made for my... companion here. She¡¯s in need of some new clothing. The woman¡¯s gaze shifted to Faya, who was standing behind Adam, looking a little unsure. Adam noticed the way Faya tugged at the hem of her well-worn tunic, the edges frayed from use. It was no surprise¡ªthe girl had been living in those clothes for weeks.
¡°Of course,¡± the woman said, her expression softening. ¡°We can certainly do that. What kind of clothes are you thinking of?¡±
Adam turned to Faya and raised an eyebrow. ¡°You heard her, Faya. We¡¯ll need a few different sets. One for traveling, something sturdy. One for working in, simple and practical. And then... one for when we¡¯re out of town¡ªsomething nice. Can¡¯t have you looking like a ragged traveler all the time.¡±
Faya hesitated, her face reddening slightly at the mention of something ¡°nice.¡± ¡°I... I don¡¯t need anything too fancy, Adam,¡± she mumbled, looking down at the floor.
Adam smiled, understanding her discomfort. ¡°Something that will last, we might need to look like we belong in some places. The tailor nodded approvingly, eyeing Faya with a more practiced gaze now. ¡°Absolutely. I¡¯ll make sure the fit is comfortable and practical, but also something that¡¯ll give you confidence when you wear it.¡± She motioned toward a set of fabrics hanging nearby, an array of cotton, woolens, and silks in various colors. ¡°Let me show you the selections, and you can tell me what speaks to you.¡±
Faya, a little shy, walked over and began inspecting the fabrics. Adam took the opportunity to speak with the tailor.
¡°And if possible,¡± he said, ¡°I¡¯d like it ready by tomorrow. We¡¯re planning on traveling again soon, and I want to make sure she has clothes for the journey.¡±
The tailor raised an eyebrow at the request but nodded. ¡°I can have them ready by midday tomorrow. A simple traveling set won¡¯t take long, and I¡¯ll work quickly on the others. I have some ready that might work well for her with some alterations. ¡°Thank you,¡± Adam replied, relieved.
Faya, still uncertain, eventually picked out a few fabrics¡ªone for a nice traveling cloak in deep green, another for a sturdy pair of pants and tunics in a muted brown. Faya went to the back with the tailor and got more measurements. They were gone for longer than Adam thought was needed; when they came back out, little Faya looked like a completely different person. The door to the back room creaked open, and Faya stepped out, her feet hesitant but her posture more confident than it had been earlier. The simple brown dress clung gently to her slight frame, falling just below her knees. Her once unkempt, curly hair had been carefully straightened, the tangles and dirt washed away, leaving it silky and smooth, a deep shade of chestnut that now framed her face in neat waves. Her cheeks were still slightly hollow from lack of nourishment. Faya¡¯s face, once partially hidden behind strands of dirt-smeared hair, was now clear and shining, revealing her youthful features: a small nose and wide eyes that, while still holding a trace of uncertainty, were brighter than they had been earlier in the day. She looked almost like a completely different person¡ªone who could have easily been mistaken for the daughter of a well-to-do family, rather than the ragged, dirt-streaked girl he met just this morning.
¡°Thank you again,¡± he said. ¡°We¡¯ll be back for the rest tomorrow.¡± ¡°Let¡¯s head back to the inn,¡± Adam said with a smile, ¡°and get some rest. Tomorrow will be another long day.¡± As they arrived, Adam had the innkeeper give her a room next to his, and once she was done eating, they were off to their rooms for bed.
He checked out some of his system messages before going to bed.

Chapter 23
Adam groggily rolled over in bed, Stretching his arms above his head, Adam took a moment to put himself together. The smell of breakfast wafted through the inn¡¯s corridors, making his stomach growl Walking out of his room, he bumped into Faya "Morning," Adam greeted her as he stood and began gathering his things.
"Morning," Faya replied softly, her voice still carrying the remnants of sleep. She gave him a small smile, but it didn¡¯t quite reach her eyes.
¡°Let¡¯s get breakfast. After that, we¡¯ll see what we got to do today,¡± Adam said, offering her a hand to help her out of bed.
As they made their way down to the common room, Adam was struck by the noise. Normally, the inn¡¯s common room was filled with the whisper of travelers giving each other advice and the occasional burst of laughter or chatter, but today, it was overflowing with people.
Adam glanced at the innkeeper, who was scrambling to keep up with the demand His usually neat appearance was nowhere to be seen, and he was rushing from one customer to the next without pause. He walked up to him, raising a hand to get his attention. ¡°What''s going on? This place is packed today.¡± ¡°Baron Heartman¡¯s son is here with his knights and men at arms. They¡¯ve been going around the town, rallying people to join the defense against the Kingdom of Tranthor.¡±
Adam¡¯s brow furrowed, and the innkeeper continued before Adam could say anything.
¡°Heartman¡¯s son, young Lord Roland, is trying to gather every able-bodied person in the village to hold the line until the Duke¡¯s army arrives. They need people to defend the outposts and keep the enemy at bay, but it¡¯s chaos. They¡¯re conscripting anyone they can get their hands on. If you don¡¯t want to be caught up in it, I suggest you leave before they see you; a healer of any type will get picked up.¡±
Adam nodded and thanked the innkeeper for everything and left a few silvers before reaching for Faya and dragging her back to their rooms. ¡°What''s going on?¡± Faya asks. Looking back, Adam spoke more calmly than he felt. ¡°We are grabbing whatever we need from our rooms and leaving early on our trip. I feel bad leaving everyone, but I don''t want to fight someone''s war for them either.¡±
She hesitated for a moment, then nodded to herself. ¡°Where would we go? ¡°We will figure it out. Just grab everything from your room and I''ll store it for you. Let''s hit the road.¡±
Leaving from the back of the inn, they hurried through the maze of alleyways, The sounds of the square grew fainter, but Adam couldn''t get rid of his dread and hoped that as they got further away it would go away on its own. Just as they reached the edge of town, the sharp clatter of hooves echoed behind them. Adam¡¯s heart skipped a beat, and he grabbed Faya¡¯s arm, pulling her toward a small patch of woods that bordered the village. They ducked behind a thick line of trees.
A moment later, the sound of horses drew closer. Through the gaps in the trees, Adam could see three people riding their way, looking right at them and telling Faya to hide. He stepped out, knowing he couldn¡¯t get away. But he prepared himself for a fight just in case it got physical.
As they got to him, all three stopped their horses, and one man in plate armor dropped from his poor horse. And approached him with his weapon drawn, so Adam drew his harvesting tool and dagger when the young man in the back spoke in what he would call lord, as he guessed. ¡°I am Lord Roland, son of Baron Heartman, lord of these lands. Are you the healer or herbalist Adam?
Not speaking, Adam chose to just nod yes. Roland¡¯s gaze flickered briefly to Faya, who was peaking from behind a tree cursing. Adam wanted to scold her, so he asked her to hide. Roland spoke, ¡°You know we are at war. My father sent me to hold off the expanse of the enemy into our lands until a larger army led by the duke. In order to do that, as conscripting soldiers, we could use another healer; we will of course pay well, and you can bring your servant with you.
¡°I am not from your lands or even the kingdom. I am a traveling herbalist from far away and want no part in this war. I am planning on traveling and healing anyone who needs it, but I won¡¯t follow you all into a war zone, nor will I be taking my apprentice with me. I''m sure there are other healers you can hire.¡± Adam spoke while taking a step back.
The smile from the young lord''s face dropped, and in its place, a sneer replaced it, taking out a scroll that to his senses felt "Well, I wanted it to be your choice, but we can force you as well.¡± As he ripped the paper.
Not liking this at all Adam turned and clicked his Heels together and teleported close to Faya, Ignoring the system message he went to grab her but a light surrounded her and a knight was between us. Getting ready to attack a system messaged forced itself upon Adam.
