《VR Magic Pioneer: Master by Default》 1: Log in, Start! "What do you mean, ''No college will accept me''? You just said that I have the highest grades in the state." Luther was sitting in front of his guidance counselor. "It is precisely how you said, college criteria has changed. Tell me, if you would, what level are you in the game SECOND CHANCE?" He spoke in a way that didn''t hide the fact he didn''t want to be there. Luther was a little taken aback. " I''ve never played." " Exactly. Each player gets their own digital ID that has their information. Their level, occupation, their skills, and how much money they can make. The information found on those IDs are much more valuable as they can''t be forged or hacked. Colleges don''t trust our information." Hoping to be a Science and Engineering Major, he didn''t understand the point. He took shop class and everything related, and he Passed AP Calculus and Bio Early. While everyone was playing a game, he was actually putting in the work required to move up in the world. His actions actually made him behind his peers, who would have thought? "My advice is to join as soon as possible. It might seem unprofessional to recommend a game to a student, but that''s all the advice I can give you. If you were a couple years older you could most definitely get into Yale. But now, they want the money associated with the game. College costs have been going up." Of course, he needed money. It was always about money. With just him and his dad, Alex, they enough money to live comfortably, but not college level cushy. When his dad got a promotion last year, he stocked up on canned goods and bought two VR pods. He wanted to spend time with his son. And it would have worked if he didn''t buy them during exam season. Luther spent the walk home grumbling about annoying, money grubbing, higher learning institutes. His dad won''t be back until 6pm, so he just hopped in the pod that was collecting dust in the corner in his room. SECOND CHANCE was the product of two separate companies and games merging together. ''The Twelve Kingdoms'' was a medieval fantasy game with magic, knights, and dragons. ''Accension Dreams'' was more eastern with cultivation and immortals at its base. The merge turned the two halves into a complete world where anyone becoming anything they wanted. < Chose your appearance.> He kept everything as he was in the real world, with one change. He changed his fire red hair to ocean blue. Unlawfully taken from Royal Road, this story should be reported if seen on Amazon.5'' 11'''' with a lean ,yet muscular, build. He tapped YES and he closed his eyes and fell asleep standing. He woke up standing on a grassy hill overlooking a village. "Status." He said without any hesitation. If he wants to go to college he needs to know what he is dealing with. < Player: Luther Level: 1 HP: 600 Strength: 8 Speed :6 Mana:10> He smiled a little. "This might not be so bad." He said to no one. He personally wants a magic class. In order to do that, he needs to get to level 5. This max Mana Stat shows promise. Still standing on the hill, he closed his eye and looked into himself. Inside himself, there was a small collection tiny blue bubbles. He just observed them float around aimlessly. Sometimes colliding, making a bigger bubble, and separating almost immediately after. [Starting Village: Kokiri Village] [Population: 1 (you)] Kokiri village was a ghost town. He walked around and only found abandoned houses and a barred up adventurer''s guild. This had to be a mistake. Right? He walked behind the guild and found a paper nailed to the backdoor. "Notice of bankruptcy." He read out loud. Now it made sense. From what the forums stated, a guildhouse like this one was the actual heart of village economy. They commissioned jobs and paid. Food and monster parts could be traded for other materials, making guildhouses; tradehouses as well. Their fields could no longer yield crops and the monsters got stronger. He was the only one here. This was a good thing and a bad thing. It was good because everything in this village was free by default. It was a bad thing because he couldn''t get Quests and had to hunt to level up. And he was unable to fight as he was now. He knew what to do next and broke down the backdoor to the Adventurer''s guild. Which took a half hour. a level 1 newbie breaking into an abandoned Adventurer''s Guild took a lot of work. Two axes and a hoe later, the door was beyond repair and he could walk in. He walked over to where the Quest board should be. Instead there was a map hanging on the wall. The village was in the center and there were four red huts surrounding it. The grassland was covered in red dots as well. A panel popped up. < Epic quest found!> [Quest: save the village!] [The village is surrounded by goblins. Destroy their camps and kill their chiefs. Objective: kill four goblin leaders. 0/4 Kill goblins 0/500 Reward: 1000 XP ??? Chest ??? Book Consequence for failure: none] Luther got excited and angry at the same time. "How the hell is a level 1 newbie going to complete an epic quest by himself?!" He took a deep breath and calmed down. He made up his mind, he was going to do it. Luther got a little excited as he turned around. He had a Guild to loot. 2: Im a Village Bandit Looting an entire Guild was actually more exhausting than imagined. He moved all the weapons, broken or otherwise, to a corner in the main hall. Next, the wooden furniture was put in a different corner. His idea was to use it as fire wood. Luther had no idea how realistic the game was. Was food a requirement? How dangerous was hypothermia in this game? After using a busted sword to carve out the job change crystal, he looked around for anything else useful. [This crystal can change the occupation of a level 5 player once more before becoming an ornament.] The item storage room was extremely disappointing. The herbs and monster parts were so old, rotting and falling apart. He did find two Magic skill books on the lower floors. [Mana Bullet The most basic offensive magic spell. Cost :2 Mana] [Strength Boost The most basic magic support spell. Cost: 2 Mana Lasts 150 seconds] His goal of being a mage felt closer now that he had actual skills. The Guild Master''s office had a book case that only had one Pugilist only skill book. That was annoying, in his opinion. An entire bookcase that only one book in it. and he couldn''t even use it. [Soul Beast Empowerment Class locked: Pugilist Manifests beast that matches user''s soul Passive: Player''s body adapts to match beast born in the soul {Beware! this will alter stats} Passive 2: Allows player to use skills that would usually be only usable by beast in the wild.] Without a second thought, he opened his Friends list. His Father was online, thankfully.Stolen from Royal Road, this story should be reported if encountered on Amazon. Alexander Blackstone Level 62 Pugilist ¡ï¡ï¡ï /Hey Dad. Finally started The Game. Found this. you can have it, wanna be a mage. He sent it to his Father without a thought. He bought him the $2,800 VR pod, Luther didn''t feel right charging him. \Holy shit! Kiddo, this is amazing! I owe you one! thanks a bunch! My Spirit Animal is a Grey Wolf! I''ll be on the search for good magic tomes for you as thanks! Luther let out an exasperated sigh and smiled. His dad always used exclamation points instead of periods when instant messaging. He was about to close the window when he received a ''DING!'' Alexander Blackstone Level 65 Alpha Warrior¡ï "How!? it''s not even been 5 minutes!" He closed the window and sat in the old Guild Master''s chair. He needed to get as strong as he can, so he looked inward to see the Mana bubbles floating freely. He used his strength and will to gather them all in one place. A bright blue pool formed in the void. He watched as the pool grew even bigger and calmed down. He opened his eyes to a new shock. He wasn''t the only to try this. [Self Taught Mana Pool You found the well known secret of practicing Mages on your own. The Mana Pool is a basic singular Mana storage point. Reward: Mana +5 Mana Regen + 1.5% Spell cooldown -1.5% Casting speed +2%] Having a 20 Mana stat at level 1 was ludicrous. But what surprised him was the achievement description. "Basic singular Mana storage point" means that there are more complicated ways to store Mana. It also meant that he could figure out ways to create multiple Mana storage points if he leveled up more. As he walked to to find a Smith in the village something unexpected happened. [Eager Magic Scholar You created your Mana pool before selecting a class! Boon: All Mage primary classes unlocked and available when changing classes. Bane: Magicless classes now prohibited from choice when changing classes. Reward: Mana +15] After the initial shock of gaining even more Mana at level 1, it made sense that he was the first. Most people didn''t have high enough stats to even think about things like this. They needed to get stronger. After finding the Smithy in pretty good condition, Luther realized he didn''t have any way to start the fire. "Why didn''t the guild have any practical spell books, like fire?" A snap is heard. He ducked back into the building and peeked through the window. "Two goblins. Scouts probably, I''ve been making too much sound. Time to test out the bullet." He concentrated on the feeling as the skill activated. A piece of his pool flowed like a river toward his right index finger. No sound was made as a bead of Mana shot through one of the goblin''s heads. [HP: 600 -> 650 Strength:8 ->11 Speed: 6->9] "Rah?!" The other goblin let out a screech and ran back to the village gate. Luther wasn''t about to let it escape and call for help. Another head shot and the goblin fell face first. A panel floated over the corpses This was a mechanic that was never fixed despite complaints heard at the dinner table as well as the forum. Once a being was slain, anyone and everyone could loot a corpse, be it monster, person, or player. your level determined what you could get from the corpse. [Gained 2 Goblin ears and 2 small monster pearls.] Monster pearls are sold to guilds for a pretty penny, no one knows exactly what to do with them other than sell them though. Kill Goblins 2/ 500 He was lucky that the smithy was across the dirt road from the guild. Looking at the map, Luther noticed that many red dots on the map changed location. "This map has real time tracking!" he promptly ripped the map off the wall. [HP:700->750 STR: 13->16 SPD:11->14] Mana Bullet has ridiculous range. Luther could hide in bushes and snipe goblins from 8 metres away. He still had to manually Which sucked. he almost died a couple times because he was too exposed. 42 goblins later and he was almost Level 5. he was so close he could taste it. "Gonna be a mage?? Gonna be a mage?? Gonna be a frikkin mage??!" He was interupted by a fireball missing his face. Snarling from behind makes him freeze. He slowly turns to sneak a peek at his atacker. it was a goblin with a big walking stick and a tooth neckalce. The only problem was that it was small, like a child. He didn''t have time to think of the implications of killing a child. Even if it was a goblin child. "Totally not feeling nauseous. Nope." "Well, That sucks. but helps with the epic quest." "Y''know," Luther mumbled to no one. "Not a bad dent for two hours. Gotta eat now though." He didn''t notice another pop-up as he signed off for dinner. Logging on and off was a surreal experience itself. It was like falling alseep and waking up in a lucid dream. Knowing it''s fake, but having control of all your falcuties and doing whatever the hell you want. He was greeted by the smell of pizza as he left his room. A large man was already eating a slice. "Howdy kiddo!" Alex Announced after swallowing, "To celebrate getting your nose and ass out of those books and starting your grand adventure, I bought pizza!" Alexander Blackstone was a large, towering, musclar man. He had to be, with all the excersize he gets from just working in construction. "That book was Amazing by the way! Capital A!" He sated as Luther sat down and they both took a slice. "It gave me the ability to create my own pseudo-guild type thing. Being an an ''Alpha Warrior'' means I can make my own pack. Sounds cool, right? Blackstone Pack. Cool gang name, at least." Taking another bite, "How di u eben fin id?" He was always chipper and boisterous. Luther can''t tell anymore if his father''s nature is genuine or not after his mother died... "My starting village is abandoned, so im able to loot it without repercussions. You are using a skill left behind by the long lost GuildMaster of Kokiri Village." *Cough Cough Cough* Alex choked on his pizza. "DId you just say ''Kokiri''? Please tell me you didn''t!" he looked paniced for a second. "What''s up? The place isn''t that bad... just surrounded by goblins." Luther was confused. He thought it was a decent place to grind. The goblins are pretty much a small fry. "I got an epic quest to deal with them all."This content has been unlawfully taken from Royal Road; report any instances of this story if found elsewhere. "You need to abandon that place and Run Luther! Capital R! A whole bunch of people have tried it and failed! Not only are are all four Goblin villages led by Shamans. But they work Together at night! Capital T! They are coordinated!" That...that was bad, wasn''t it? "I plan on being a mage, so shouldn''t that help a bit?" "No kiddo. I was there, I watched 5 months ago when the Shamans sacrificed their own Chieftains to the Blood Moon. They are elite! two star threats! You gotta get out of there ASAP!" Luther understood what his father was saying, he really did. But, he was so behind everyone else, he needed the boost. So, he just nodded and went back to his pizza, lost in thought. After dinner, he went to the forum and searched ''Mana training''. Pretty straight-forward in his opinion, he was surprised when he found a community of mages and Martial Artists on the eastern server cooperating so well. There''s usually this rivalry because of the New Years East V. West competition. ''A mage''s mana training is both similar and different to a Martial Artist''s Qi training. They are both similar in the fact that their pools can be trained in different patterns to produce different results, leading to different elemental class boons and limitations. The difference being, a Martial Artist requires this pattern be ingrained into the body. Mages dont have that requirement. This leads to Mages having weaker frames, but gaining the ability to ''cast'' the energy out of their person sooner and faster. A Martial Artist must be attuned to their bodies to a certain degree in order to be able to expell their energy completely. A primary distinction is that in order for a Mage to advance to the next stage; One must create a new, completly separate mana pool. Stabilize it. And then make it work in tandem with the previous Mana pool. Martial Artists, after gaining a certain amount, condense the purest of their Mana into the center of their pattern. And continue to make the center purer and denser as they advance. However, these training patterns are compatible in both Mages and Martial Artists.'' A thought popped into his head. He got a First Achievment when he made a Mana pool before becoming a Mage. What happens if he makes a Circuit Pattern before advancing? He hasn''t gained any Mana from leveling up. Would he get more if he does this? 30 is a nice, round, even, stable number. There were a lot of patterns to start from. some as simple as a square and some as concerning as a 20-pointed star. The person who make that Sun-Eating Technique is insane. The fact that their profile says that they are at peak Gold Core using that technique scared Luther immensely. Instead of going to bed, he went in the pod. He set up his spot in the GuildMaster''s office and sat down legs crossed. While he was looking at all of those patterns, he noticed something odd. How come there wasn''t a circle? A simple ring? So that was what he was going to do. Looking inward, he stood infront of the Shimmering blue Mana pool. he lifted his arms and the pool started to spin into a whirlpool. It spun faster and faster until he could see through it. He moved his left hand and the pool flattened out, making a spinning doughnut. The doughnut slowly widened as the ring thinned. Luther almost lost concentration as the ring glowed and got wider than he planned. He slowed the ring to a stop and marveled at his work for a bit. He let out a big smile and opened is eyes. [Mana Ring {Perfect} Casting speed+5% Mana Regen+3% Spell cooldown for spells below ¡ï is gone!] [Determined Magic Scholar You created your first Mana Circuit before changing to your starting Magic class! [HP: 800 Str: 18 Spd:16 Mana:50] "YES!!!! I''m Level 5! I can Change classes now!" He quickly pulls the Job Change Crystal out of his inventory and hits Yes immediately skipping over the obligatory question. "Well, what do we have here?" He could choose between all of the Mage Classes. When choosing a class, a number is displayed next to the name. indicating the number of people currently playing as that Class. Mage classes were separated by color. Red is Fire. (895) Blue is Water. (564) Brown is Earth. ( 376) Yellow is Electric (621) Purple is Gravity. (198) Gold is Healing and often associated with something called the Mystic Church. (150) Black is Darkness/ sometimes evil (42) White is... (0) What''s a White Mage? He selected it out of curiosity. [Mage that works directly with Mana itself, in it''s purest form. Gaining the ability to pull Mana out of the suroundings adeptly and control it with ease. A White Mage has the possiblity to learn Spells from other Mage Classes after increasing proficiency to ??? ] Luther selected the White Mage class. It was a no brainer, really. Being the only one means that he would be getting all of the the First Achievements to this class. That was sure to get him into great colleges. [HP: 800 Str: 15 Spd:16 Mana:50] Luther would have been more shocked by the panel, if it didn''t get dark quickly. He looked out to see the full moon looking blood red. "Well, fuck..." 4: The Blood Moon War Luther immediately checked his map to see the town surrounded on all sides by hundreds of red dots and four pruple dots. The four purple dots were obviously the four Shamans that lead the villages He needed to destroy. Luther, being the overconfident and overanxious 18 year old he was, thought this was a boon. They were going to be easy pickings all grouped up like that. Making a mad dash out of the village was harder than previously thought. Goblin scouts started appearing in the town as he was leaving. He killed few of them and looted their bodies before they could be found. Finding out how to mute Level up Alerts was great. Still being level 5 meant he wouldn''t survive a head on fight. Players that die in SECOND CHANCE has all of their stats cut in half upon revival. this made a few of the first players give up. Oddly enough, those that died were the more melee oriented players. Luther didn''t want to know what it would mean for his Mage status. He elected to just sit and watch the goblin swarn enter the village as he read the description of his active skills. [Mana Beam ¡ï Shoot a steady Beam of Mana at opponent! Mana cost: 2 per 4 Seconds] Luther let out a slightly evil cackle after he read this skill. "I can shoot Lasers! How cool is That?" He looked around, Realizing once again that he was talking to know one. "I miss human interaction..." [Mana Steal ¡ï The White Mage has the Highest Mana control. This gives White Mages a better understanding of Mana as a whole and take it for themselves.] "That isn''t ominous at all." He said to no one sarcastically. "Damn it. I miss people." Regardless, this skill was pretty cool, like the how the friends in the east could pull the Mana from the air. Except he could take it from anything. When the snarls he heard from the Goblins turned into grunts, Luther poked his head out of the window. A group of 20 or so goblins were carrying the corpse of a minotuar to the center of the village.Unauthorized usage: this narrative is on Amazon without the author''s consent. Report any sightings. A Minotuar was a ¡ï¡ï field boss to the west of Kokiri Village. It would only appear if you killed all 154 Wild Boars in the field within 4 hours. A pit formed in his stomach as he watched the group carry it away. The feeling of dread only increased when he saw the Western Goblin Shaman Leader. It was as tall as he was. It''s body was covered in pulsing crimson markings from head to toe. It''s staff was adorned with what he could only assume was a Wild Boar Skull. It turned and looked at Luther with a sharp, sinister, too many toothed smile. And then continued to walk toward the center of the village. In the distance he could see that the the other three goblin hoards also had a minotuar each and were piling them in the center. This was a sacrifice. One that needed to be stopped. By any means neccessary. They can''t be allowed to gain a third star. The Goblin Shamans took positions and started to chant. "EECH, KAH, LOO, PAINE, DRAH!" The lesser goblins soon followed in the chant. The entire village reverberated with the sound of goblins chanting and banging what ever they could get their hand on to match the beat. Luther slowly made his way to the center. The goblins he killed during the chant didn''t give him any XP. Before he could loot the bodies that he dropped, they disintegrated into red motes of light and flew to the center of the ritual. He looked and saw the Minotuars also disintegrate the same way. None of the Goblins even seemed to register the fact that their comrades were falling right next to them, If their now completely solid red eyes were any indication. The now cloud of red mist replaced the minotuars and was launched to the Blood Moon itself. The Moon Pulsed four times before shooting four blood red beams toward the Shamans. They each raised their right hands to the sky, each one sporting a blood red crecent moon. The lesser goblins all jutted their left fists to their leaders, which also had the same mark. It was now or never. Luther jumped into the center of the ritual, reached to the sky, and yelled "!" The four red beams changed course and hit his fists. The pain was excruciating as it coursed through his body. "No! Keep them separate!" He yelled through gritted teeth. So this was what the system prompt meant by not all Mana was good for him. He needed to get rid of this Mana, and Luther only saw one way how. He focused on the curse and corrupted mana treatening to take over his character and yelled once again "!" The Beam that came from his index finger was toxic red and released in a continuous stream. He didn''t know whether to throw up at the sounds of goblins screeching and dying, or revel in it. He ignored the Alert and spun around, still firing the beam. He stopped moving and made a T-pose, with both index fingers pointed in opposite directions and fired again. The screams kept coming, but his eyes were closed so he didn''t get dizzy. Luther started to move his arms up and down as he spun when the screams slowly started to get quiet, only for them to rise back up in volume again. He eventually collapsed, falling on his back and gasping for air. he looked to his left to see a Goblin Shaman cut in half, dead. the halves that were cut being almost rotted at first glance. [Goblin leaders slain: 4/4 Goblins slain: 845/500 Reward: 1200 XP Unique Chest Unique Book] Luther Didn''t get up, didn''t open the rwards to see what he got specifically, and didn''t even celebrate jumping from level 5 to 14. He just laid there and tried to relax as he sent a message, before he decided to try and take a nap in the game. /Hey Dad! Did everything I needed to do! Can you come pick me up? 5: Blood Moon Aftermath and Eerin Kingdom Mage Hall "Wake up Luther!" A gruff voice spoke that jolted Luther out of a dreamless sleep. "Mind telling me how the Two star Goblin Shamans I warned you about ended up looking like they''ve been served at a Hibachi grill house?" Alex''s character looked even bulkier than he actually did in real life. Windswept grey hair and looking very wolf-like. Towering over Luther, who now started to get up. "Yeah, my bad they were sacrificing Minotuars, so i interupted their ritual and killed them all with their own blessing." The wolf-like man''s jaw dropped, showing sharp canines. "And you did this. As a Level 5 Mage." "14 now, but yeah..." Luther let out a sigh as he Harvested the closest Shaman Luther looted the other three Shamans for the same thing. He just continued to loot the other bodies as well. Gaining 845 Small Blood Moon Pearls but no other sellable items. All while his father processed how A Level 5 trash mage (according to the forums) Purged the village. And yes, This wasn''t a Subjugation. It was a Purge. He wasn''t a bad father, he didn''t say anything when his son didn''t want to play the game in the past. He did his research when he saw that Luther got promoted to a White Mage, but didn''t say anything that could hinder him. Alex had to say to say something now. "What the Hell?! How?! What?" He sputtered. Alexander Blackstone was more of a man of action than words. "You know about White Mages right? The skill ?" Luther''s father nodded slowly. " I stole their and their . Because I wasn''t the intended target, The blessing became a . And then I kept shooting the Curse back at them." A thought occured to him and he inward. He stole two different essences, but comined them into one when he used a skill. Sure enough, His suspisions were proved correct. the Blood Moon Curse Absorbed the Corrupted Monster Mana. Meaning that his physical Stats were restored. The bloody Erratic Sludge of the curse was pooled underneath the Mana Circle. He was relieved that he kept them separate. "I thought all those red lines were a tattoo you picked for your character." His father said as he got out of his stupor. He lifted his son''s left arm and traced one of the curse''s markings.This tale has been unlawfully lifted without the author''s consent. Report any appearances on Amazon. Luthor was ticklish, so he quickly shook him off. "I''d like to go to the Eerin Kingdom Mage Hall. Can I hitch a ride dad?" He asked as he patted the dust off him. "I''ll do you one better." Alex replied with a predatory grin. "These are teleport crystals. They usually take us directly to the kingdom warp hub." He answered confidently. "I had these onse modified to warp me to my house." He pulled out a Diamond shaped crystal and crushed it in Luther''s hand. "You bought-" The warp was instantaneous. The feeling of beeing pulled through a drinking straw, while simultaneously being turned inside out and back, was also instananeous. "a house?" Luther fell to his knees and started heaving uncontrollably. "Yeah. A player''s house is a place to dump your stuff when your inventory is full." Alex answered, completely ignoring his son''s current crisis. "I saved a bunch of gold to get a nice place near the middle of the Kingdom. The Mage Hall is past the market westwards." He patted his son on the back. "You can take the second bedroom. I labeled it and everything while i waited for you to get your ass over here to the game." Luther''s dad left him and the house. "Good luck! Hope you get that curse off!" He shouted for the whole street to hear. Luther was met with starnge looks and was surrounded by whispers as he made his way to the Mage Hall. The Hall itself was magnificent. It looked like a a great library made of marble. There were Pillars of each color in front of the building''s doors, representing each mage type. One of the Pillars was clear and cracked, possibly refrencing the fact that Luther was the only White Mage. The interior, to no ones surprise, was a library. Carpets of each color, matched to the pillars outside, led to bookshelves of the same color. With the exception of the white Mage section, which was turned into a study area filled with tables surrounded by chairs. Luther thought it was nice, but he needed to become a Master. He walked up to young man with slightly pointed ears that was sitting at the front desk. "Hello, I was told I can get the Key to the White Mage Tower here?" The young man was shocked out of the book he was reading. "Wha-! Ha-!" he sputtered as he quickly shut the book and hid it. "Hooo...." He released a breath and turned to him. "Welcome to the Eerin Kingdom Mage Hall. My name is Blake how may I help you?" Luther took it in stride "I was told i could could get the key to the White Mage hall here?" Blake''s eyes widened before he took out an orate key and a crystal ball. "Well I could give it to you. But that would get me fired if I didn''t verify you. Put your had on this crystal ball and pour some Mana into it." Luther did just that, using is circle. Both of them watched as the Crystal Ball slowly became Milky White and Gave his name. Blake stared at the ball in shock. Luther used the shock to grab the key and walk out of the building as smoothly as possible. "Thanks for the help Blake!" Luther said as he shut the door. He took a deep breath and put the Key in his inventory. before he could go down the steps, he watched the clear pillar become more opaque and white. As if to annouce to the Kingdom that a new White mage was born. Luther smiled brightly all the way to the tower. His smile dimmed slightly when he checked his map and saw that the White Mage tower was on the other side of the Kingdom in the north. ~~~~~~Line Break~~~~~~ "Master Thorne! Master Thorne!" Blake the Half-elf Yelled as he ran through the Mage Academy halls. "Master Thorne!" He gasped as he burst through the Green door with Golden embossed leaves A tall, slender, dark skinned beauty with green hair and dress was sitting at her desk. "This better be important Blake, or I will dock Merits for interupting my conversation with Master Silver." She spoke smoothly and with a subtle bite. Master SIlver was the smartly dressed man sitting opposite from her. Blue Hair, 3-piece suit, and horn rimmed glasses. He turned slowly and raised an eyebrow at Blake. "Forgive me,* gasp* Masters! But i have Urgent news!" Blake stood up straight, still out of breath. "I just confirmed a White Mage and gave him his key!" The Two Masters looked at each other with wide eyes before quickly getting out of their seats and leaving. "100 Merit points for you Blake." they Said at the same time as they made haste. 6: White Mage Tower, Master Aegis Diary, and becoming a Master "Mage towers in the Eerin Kingdom looked like giant lighthouses. Who knew?" Luther stated as he looked at the dilapidated tower, it''s shadow looming over him. presenting the door with the key dissolved it, and the double door clicked. "Visitors, huh?" Luther asked as he pushed open the doors. "Wonder how I become the Master of this place?" The tower was made of marble, so he was surprised to see the Lobby floor made of reflective glass with a giant jagged crystal in the center. The front desk was made of a curious red wood. The drawers and shelves were empty, surprisingly, no records left behind whatsoever. "That''s probably for the best." He whispered as he followed the stairs next to the desk. The second floor was a dormitory. A winding hall of 50 rooms that are exactly the same, 25 on each side of the hall. The third floor surprised Luther. It was a storage room. Shelves were full of glass jars of various shapes and sizes, each with its own unique dead plant. He ran his hand along them hoping to get a reaction. The fact that he didn''t meant that they weren''t salvageable. Maybe he could blend them all and make a poison or something, some of these plants were rotting. [Symbol of the Followers of the Moon. Once eaten by leaders of Moon as an succession ceremony. It''s dead now. But if it could be revived...] Luther was going to destroy it, until he noticed something odd in the description. It said ''Moon'', not ''Blood Moon''. He put it his his inventory for now. "This could be useful for the future." The fourth floor was a suite for the Master. It opened to an inconspicuous office with a skeleton sitting in the Master''s chair. it''s hand was on a book on the desk. Slowly moving the hand, he picked up the book. Skill books dissolve when learned by players. The previous Master White Mage was still holding it, even after dying. Luther selected ''no'', sat across for the Master and opened the book... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Mastery of the White Mage Path is remarkably easy, at first glace. This method with make the Mana contain itself, making it self-sustainable. Much like a monster pearl. I will present my findings to the Master today. But it seems like I will Suceed an empty tower. Reginald Aegis 862 A.D ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ A new message popped up before Luther''s face. Luther hit ''Yes'' in a heartbeat and watched as both the book and the skeleton dissolved into little white motes and flew into him. Something changed inside him. The curse felt...less. Luther got excited as he walked down the stairs to the first floor. "Master Mage. Something that hasn''t been done once in the 2 years Second Chance has been on." He was about to pour his Mana into the stone, when a thought struck him and he stopped. He ran back up to the third floor and emptied a glass jar that was full of mulch and stuck his finger in it. Using for the first time gave him a prompt. [Pure Mana] [Corruption of the Blood Moon] A vicious smile spread across his face as he chose the second option. The smile turned into grit teeth as the corruption was ripped out of him. The red markings were not gentle as they receded into his finger. It dripped like blood into the jar despite there being no cut. The red filth pooled into the jar before shining and turning into a ruby moon. Twisting the jar showed a skull sometimes glinting in the sunlight. He felt purified, like it was slowly eating at his circle and then it was gone. His Circle was slowing spinning on it own now. [Curse breaker You have learned how to perfectly expel a curse from a person or thing. Reward: (Title: Curse breaker)] "The Corruption of the Blood Moon looking like it might be tainted Moon energy. How do I untaint Mana and feed it to the plant?" Luther mumbled as he walked back to the jagged crystal. Pouring Mana into the Crystal was super easy, barely an inconvenience. He thought he would need to pour in at least Half of his Mana to satisfy it, not a drop. On the outside, the White Mage Tower repaired itself. Cracks glowed and sealed. The roof became a milky white that shone in the sunlight. A beam shot up from the tip and curved toward the castle in the center of the Eerin Kingdom. -=-Welcome Master White Mage Luther to the Eerin Kingdom! The White Mage Tower is Activated!-=- "Oh shit. That''s bad. A World Announcement." A World Announcement, as the name suggests, announces to the whole world of a world changing development. this could be bad. A problem for later, though. There was one more floor to check out. 7: 2 Star Mage, Mana Of The Other, and Pulling Apart The fifth floor of the tower was a training room. The walls were covered in only what could be described as protections. Lines and runes littered the walls, floor, and ceiling. The subtle feeling of Mana gathering into the center could be felt. Remembering something that Master Aegis wrote he took out an ordinary monster pearl. The pearl turned to dust and disappeared when he used . Looking inward, Luther saw something interesting. "It''s green." A murky green was pooled underneath his blue circle. He quickly used 40 of his 42 ordinary goblin pearls. The green pool made no effort to move closer or away from his blue circle. Slowly, he tried to spin it, like he did with his first pool, to make a perfect circle. After getting sufficient speed, he let go. The green Mana immediately collapsed back into a pool. "What?" Luther tried again, only for the same thing to happen once more. He kept trying ten more times to get the same result. "Wait, what if i..." He started spinning the green Mana in the opposite direction of his first circle. It was going well, until it froze. <> [Completing this action will make you a Heretic of the Mystic Church if found out. Do you wish to proceed?] "This could be really good or really bad. But i need to rack up achievements and such. Running out of time." He selected yes and completed his second circle. [You have become a ¡ï¡ï Master White Mage] Something strange happened has he closed the window. The two circles were spinning automatically, blue above green. A Blue vortex pointed toward and a green vortex started spinning up to meet the point. The Blue Circle became smaller and more vibrant, and the Green circle became bigger and more vibrant. When the vortexes subsided and the circles calmed down, but kept spinning. [Two opposite stable Mana types are in you.] [Passive skill gained: Mana Equilibrium Neither of the opposing Mana Types will overpower the other.] "That explains why my first circle shrunk a bit." HIs Mana stat was 90, 45 for each circle. This story has been unlawfully obtained without the author''s consent. Report any appearances on Amazon. [Mana of the Other You have successfully absorbed, stabilized, and purified Mana that is fundamentally opposite to Orthodox standards.] [With power, comes responsibility. You gained the power, you must see it to completion. Choose a sin to embody. Sin(s) Available: Gluttony] Luther was concerned. He stumbled upon the 7 Deadly Sins quest. He knew whispers about it because it didn''t list any rewards. He selected [Gluttony]. Even if wasn''t the only Sin left, he would have picked it. "There wasn''t a decline button for this quest. I really don''t want to know what would happen if i ignored this." [Gluttony] seemed to work well with [Mana Steal ¡ï], as evident by the next window. "Three star skill! Awesome! I really need to start learning spells though. I am a Master now." "That''s actually pretty good! The other 6 Sins are all on the East Server and won''t interfere with me." Luther stated from his spot on the floor of the Training room. "This Manual could be useful for the future." He decided to leave the manual alone. It would be for the best if he hid it from everyone until he could adapt it into a Mana circle. "I now have Positive and Negative Mana, for lack of better words. I have a Lunar King Flower and 800 Blood Moon Pearls." Luther dumped all of the pearls and the moon crystal he made on the floor. He activated the Mana gathering patterns on the floor and ceiling. He sent his Blue Mana to the ceiling spell and his Green Mana to the floor spell. He, along with the gems floated up to the middle of the room. The gems evaporated into red mist and pooled into a bloody bubble in front of him. He fed more Mana into the gathering spells and watched as the bubble pulled in the two different directions. violet Mana slowly went up and an even darker red pooled below until they were both separate entities. [Essence of the Great Lunar Spirit Aerith] The violet Mana calmed down and formed a crescent moon. It seemed content to float there. [Corruption of The Blood Thief, Gregious ] The red/black mana formed into a skull with pointed fangs that started to move toward Luther at a frightening speed. "Ah! No! [Mana Crystallization]" Luther yelled. The half solid became a full solid and dropped onto the floor. He quickly put it in his inventory. "I wonder if i can actually join that Forum. Maybe someone could help me deal with this thing." "I have to respectfully decline, Aerith. I am the Sin of Gluttony and The Eerin Kingdom''s Master White Mage, after all. I have quite a bit on my plate." Luther gave a bow to a Great Spirit. " I do know someone perfect for the job. I think an Alpha Warrior would be a perfect champion, what do you think?" The Essence, which slowly moved away from him when he told him we was a Sin, now got closer and spun around him excitedly. "Thought so." He pulled Lunar King Flower out of his inventory and presented it to the Spirit''s Essence. The Essence pulsed and entered the dead flower. The Flower, which was shriveled with navy petals, now had vibrant violet petals and was very much alive. [A Lunar King Flower revived by the Essence of it''s patron. The one who eats this flower will become the Great Spirit Aerith''s Champion and will purge the Corruption of The Blood Thief, Gregious] Luther put this special item in his inventory. "I gotta find Dad." /Hey Dad! Got something for you! Meet me at the house! 8: Aeriths Champion and Meeting the other Masters Alex was looking at the flower on the dining room table. "And you''re saying that I have to eat this thing?" Pointing at said flower. Luther let out a sigh, this is the third time he had to explain it to him. "Yes, dad. Now eat the damn flower!" He picked it up and started shoving it in his dad''s face. "I made a deal with a Great Spirit for you so be greatful!" "Alright, alright! Stop abusing the elderly!" Alex said with laughter in his voice and swallowed the plant. a promt must have appeared, because next he said, "Agree" The power turned him into a Beastkin. He was covered in fur and his face was that of a wolf''s. He was a foot taller now as well. While there are many races in Second Chance. Beastkin, Elves, Imps, Fairies, Dragons. All players are always human. The cultivators of th East Servers can adapt their bloodlines, but can''t change the fact that they are Human at their core. Until today. "It''s like I became one with my Soul Beast." Alex looked at his hands and arms, testing their strength. Picking at his teeth, "Hey i can fit my whole fist in my mouth!" Opening his maw wide. "You could always do that dad." Luther''s amazement at the change disappeared after that statment. Pinching the bridge of his nose, "Make sure to bring me back as many Blood Moon pearls on your adventures. I can purify them and boost your power." "I was meaning to ask, How did you even do that? Purify them?" Alex was now scratching his chest. His Fur was super dirty. this was going to be a hassle. He couldn''t even turn back, he tried. He was a werewolf now. He was Level 67 he wasn''t going to reset his character, ever. Luther extended his hand and showed little glowing circles. the Blue in his right and the Green in his left. "I''m a 2¡ï Mage. I have two of the purest, most opposite Mana Types in the same body. This green circle is the [Mana of the Other]." "So, you''re like, what? Half Demon now or something?" He said as he unequiped his Shirt. "No, Actually." Luther stated matter-of-factly, "I checked the forums and the library. What we call ''Angels'' and ''Demons'' outside, don''t actually exist here. ''Demon'' is more of a title given to those that take their power from the dead or beasts. It''s more like a subtype of [Spirit Mana] if i had to guess. Monsters that have Mana at all, are opposite to the basic Mana that Humans use. But, I got rid of the taint that came from the goblins i killed, leaving an undiluted green [Other Mana]."Stolen content warning: this content belongs on Royal Road. Report any occurrences. "Demons and Angels don''t exist?" His sense of smell was off the charts. Someone was coming to the door. The meat he stored in the house was starting to rot. A mouse pooped in the dining room. He was getting distracted. "Traditional Demons and Angels don''t exist in Second Chance." Luther said as he watched his dad eat a chicken leg whole. "Spirits are beings, locations, whole Mana Types that gained power and consience." "Like the Great Moon Spirit, Aerith ." "Exactly." It was quite fascinating, actually. only those 7¡ï and higher can turn their Mana into a new type altogether. Which meant that Luther needed to decide what to do with the [Corruption of The Blood Thief, Gregious]. ''Blood Thief'' probably means he was a Vampire before he became what Luther could only guess. The power alone required to corrupt The Freaking Moon... His thoughts were disrupted by a knock at the door. Luther, being closer to it, opened it. He was met with a dark elf wearing green. "Are you Master Luther Blackstone?" "Yes? Um, who are you?" The woman in front of him was no doubt beautiful, but it''s only been 14 hours since he joined the game. "There will be a time for introductions during and after the Master''s meeting." She grabed his shoulder and they teleported away. Alex just kept eating, watching his son get taken away. He knew exactly who she was, after all. ~~~~~~~~~~~ Being teleported directly the Eerin Kingdom''s castle, directly in front a round table of adults in different colored robes, wasn''t great. The trip was electric, he literally felt what could be lightning coursing through his body as he was dropped into a chair. "Welcome Master White Mage, Luther Blackstone, to the Eerin Kingdom''s ambasador meeting room." The Dark Elf spoke as she sat down in the green chair. "My name in Esme Thorne, Master Green Mage" "Amadeus Silver. Blue Master." The man in the blue robe and gotee stated before turning to the big Burly one in red. "Oliver Drake, Red Master" The elderly man in gold spoke next, "Revan Artus, Gold Master and my wife, Black Master, Cecilia Artus." Gesturing to the equally elderly womanin black robes, she was curently sleeping while sitting up. A woman looking younger than Luther spoke up and waved. "Lucia Ryker, Yellow Master. Hi! My dad, Julian, is currently out of the kingdom on buisness, so you can''t meet the Brown Master today." She stated as she gestured to an empty dark brown chair. "And my name is Arthur Aurelius, the Purple Master." The purple robed man, looked like he was in his mid 30s. but his eyes screamed ''tired'' and ''done with everything'' "You are here to get you acquainted to your duties as a Master Mage. Which includes, but is not limited to: fighting agaist the shadow beasts of the west, teaching students in the academy, going to war with countries, contributing to the library, cooperating with other masters in the creation of new spells, and controlling inventory in the Magic Storehouse." Master Aurelius was all business. "Um..." Luther started sheepishly, "I''ve been a Master for a total of 6 hours now. Can I get a bit of time before becoming a teacher? I don''t have anything to teach at the moment." The Purple Master blinked at him. As if he forgot that tidbit. " Of course. You have 3 weeks. That is when the new term starts." "I''ll do my best to not let you down." 9: Teaching Magic Is Easy, Right? Luther had three weeks to come up with a curriculum for a magic school, and easily learned he was out of his depth. He remebered something important when he dumped all the scrap metal he had at a forge nearby the White Tower. A [Unique] level chest and book. [Master Mage Grimoire Even a Master Mage is not expected to memorize every spell in their arsenal. given it''s {Unique} status, you can store 100 spells in this book! Bound to Luther Blackstone] "This is amazing!" he smiled, before angrily puting it in his inventory. "Is what i would say if i had any spells. Time to open the unique chest." [Goblin Shaman Grimoire Be it Man or Monster, Magic users need successors. Having killed 4 Shamans and their successors, you have collected their knowledge. 40 spells and 5 rituals are held within.] "This is more like it." he cracked open the book and flipped through it''s pages. "I think i''ll get executed if i teach these to the students, but i have ''Other Mana'' so this might be good for me." [Spells] and [Skills] are different. [Skills] are direct applications with no additional directions, like [Mana Steal] and [Slash]. Single action abilities. [Spells] are more complicated. Typically, circles filled with symetrical patterns that tell the Mana imbued what to do, what shape to take, and whether to attack, heal, defend, or whatever. Elemental insignias that were in the center required a specific Mana Type to activate and use the Spell. [Blood Arrow] and [Blood Ball] were pretty simple, and pretty similar to each other. [Leech] was a spell version of [Mana Steal].If you encounter this narrative on Amazon, note that it''s taken without the author''s consent. Report it. What Luther noticed was that [Spells] were repeated with variations in the patterns. 20 arrows, 20 balls, and the same ritual printed 5 times. All with varying patterns that weren''t quite straight, or some ines touching when they shouldn''t. "Thank God for architecture." Luther muttered as he pulled out all of the [Arrow] spells and stacked them on top of each other. He lifted them up against the window. a pop up appeared while he was comparing them all at once. It looked like one of those video game maker engines. 3D models of the spells were lined up, one on top of the other. 9 of them were exact replicas and were discarded. 11 variations of the spell were left. Looking closer, he separted them into 2 groups based of how complicated they were. "5 Arrows and 6 Greater Arrows. All Incomplete, but not for much longer!" He said as he discarded the messy ones, the one that had arcs that were too wide and touching. "2 Arrows and 3 Greater.But they are all different. How do I?" They were all different enough to work, but they looked like, "They complete each other?!" The 2 Arrow spells were merged together, and Luther was Alerted. Doing the same with the Greater Arrows produced another Alert Luther was satisfied and disappointed all at once. He was satisfied that he technically MADE spells. But, he was disappointed because he couldn''t really use these spells.he didn''t have Blood Mana. A stray thought passed through his head as he looked at the two spells. "Are they required?" He then took out the elemental insignia in the center and closed the hole it made. He put the two spells in is Master Grimoire and relaxed in his office chair. "I can use that. Spells dont need to be element locked. But i wonder..." He quickly headed to the Training/ Mana Gathering floor. He called his Mana in his right and his Other in his left. He then activated the Arrow spell, one in each hand. They fired with increased speed and hit the wall. Thankfully it didn''t even leave a scratch. "It worked! This is perfect for the students! Spells don''t require element locks, We supply the element used when we use our Mana. At least for the beginner spells. I should probably go back to the Mage Hall. But first i got to check the ritual." The ritual was a lot more complicated. It was a lot like a spell, but sacrifices were required. there were little empty nodes that needed to be filled for the ritual to work. After using the Spellcraft tab to clean up the patterns into one, he got another Alert. "This could be useful. If i make sacrifces to the Blood Mood, it will either Curse or Bless me. Either way i can tear it apart and give dad and Aerith some more power." Heading out to the Mage Hall, Luther didn''t notice he was being spied on using a spell. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ He was surrounded by tomes from each branch of magic. Learning the spells; [Bomb], [Lance], [Barrier], and [Chains] got him to Level 15. "These are all the basic ones i could find." There are a couple more that require specific types of Mana and can''t be converted. Holy spells, which are protected by the Gold Tower, can''t be used by other types of Mana. Cures, purification, and purging could be properly be used by Mana Types if they are used against exact opposites. in theory. Having only pure basic [Mana] and [Other] this point was moot. "I don''t have enough information on differences between noraml and [Greater] spells. I may be a master, but i''ve only been one for a day. Good things come to those who wait. but I think i have a good enough grip on curriculum." "''Mana and Spellcraft'' sounds like an interesting enough class, right? I just need more Mana and Spells." An alarm went off saying it was 7:30. time to wake up and go to school. "It''s kind of funny, School ends in 3 weeks for me and then I become a teacher." 10: Joining the Mystic Research Forum, more Spellcraft, And SoulSpirirt Energy. Sitting on the bus, Luther was on his phone. The Mystic Research Forum, the one that gave him tips before he became a Mage, had a lot more information hidden behind passwords and its own network. If he wanted to learn more and get more spells, he needed to pay or join. Joining ''The Mystic Association'' was easy. It wasn''t a real guild, more like a black market. A Friendly black market. they have a history of blocking and banning their ''less-than-savory'' members, which then joined together to make the {Shadow Guild}. They meet in real life as well as in the game world. and they change meet up locations for both when someone is kicked out. The game Second Chance holds 100% accountability for the players. Aliases are not allowed. And if you get banned from it, you can never start over. Forcing players all over the world to play as nice as they can. Once you have someone''s name, you can be easily found. A whole bunch of ''Welcome'' messages later, he was a member of the coolest magic black market. There was a shop thread, auction thread, question thread, a general chat thread, and a help thread, He posted a question |I found an Item i can''t use, does anyone have a use for the [Corruption of Gregious]?| The cultivator that showed their technique on one of the free introdutory page would probably benefit from the [Demonic Devouring Art], mostly because is sounds similar to her [Sun- Eating Technique]. Lei Ru from Hong Kong responed immediately when Luther asked if he could sell it to her. Thank the Admins from all over for built in translations. \If i wasn''t a stage 5 Gold Core practitioner i would gladly buy it and use it, but i think it might be too late for me to use it. My little brother is too young to play the game, but this would be the perfect birthday present for him. I have 500 spirit stones that i can''t fit in my inventory would that be enough? /That would actually be perfect. He wasn''t lying either. Spirit stones from the East Server were both a type of currency and a source of power. How different, or similar, were they from monster pearls? Plus, he also was already the Gluttony Sin, so he didn''t really need the manual taking up space in his inventory. [Trade complete!] This tale has been unlawfully obtained from Royal Road. If you discover it on Amazon, kindly report it. \Thank you so much! \how did you even get this on your side of the ocean? If you don''t mind me asking? /Purifiying Monster Pearls. If your brother needs help, don''t hesisate too call. He didn''t get a response, so he went to the offical game app to confirm the trade. The Official game app was released before the game finished the merge. it was originally supposed to be a character Backup holder. so that if your data got corrupted you can still continue your journey. After the merge was complete, the app was still around. The admins left it and someone added the trade ability to it. Whether it was accidental or on purpose, the required distance to trade was gone after the merge. East and West were one game now and everything within could be traded freely for the past 2 years. Buying the spells [Fire Wall ], [Icicle Rain], and [Slow Curse] were no hassle.Cost him 25 silver per spell, but there was no hassle. Luther was surprised, he couldn''t wait to edit these spells to fit his needs. He was, once again, excited about the game. Getting off the bus and entering the school to start working was weird for him. Luther took an accelerated course and finished a month and a half early. The others in the same class chose to graduate early, And he chose to get some extra credits by being a teacher''s assistant. The day was spent collecting homework, helping when grading tests, cleaning classrooms, eating lunch in the teacher''s lounge (He really likes that perk. it''s so much quieter.), sitting in on a freshman math test while the teacher took a student to the Pricipal''s office for carving their desk. On the way back home, He checked his phone to double check his spell scrolls were in his inventory. he had two hours before dinner and all of the night. ~~~~~~~~~~ Converting his spells to ones he could use was becoming easier, and Luther started to wonder if there were hidden mechanics that improve learning speed for magic. Or was it the fact he was in his Tower? His domian? {You have perfected the spells [Wall], [Magic Rain], and [Magic Lock] 950 XP Gained!} Changes happened to the spells that he converted should have been obvious. Taking away the water element center made the spell drop about 100 condensed Mana Needles instead of 5 bulky icicles. [Magic Lock] without the dark element from [Slow Curse] froze the body for about ten minutes and the character''s Mana for 30 minutes. Which was deadly for a Mage. "Now with that taken care of, I have one more thing to do." He went up to the training room and dumped all 500 spirit stones on the ground. He was about to use his [Mana Steal] but decided to try some thing in addition to it. He called up both Mana Circles. And once he was balanced he called out ''[Mana Steal]!" {Alert! Mana and Other are synchronized and working together! [Mana Steal] has Gained¡ï!} Purple Mana Teeth grew from the floor and swallowed the Spirit Stones in one gulp. The new energy was milky white and floated between his two circles. Using his circles he tried to pull apart this new energy. Instead, Pure Mana and Green Other were pulled out of the white energy. The white Energy became brighter and less murky until it was pure white. The circles became larger as the white cloud became smaller and more condensed. { [SoulSpirit Energy] purified and condensed!} { [Pure Mana] and [Other Mana] no longer want to escape each other! They now have a compatible bridge and can work together without issue!} { Too many differing Energy stats! ''Mana'' stat changed to ''Energy'' stat } The first thing Luther noticed was that SoulSpirit Energy was obtained, not Mana. Next was that it was purified and condensed, like a dantian from the East. Except that he was a Mage and shouldn''t be able to cultivate. Putting that on the back burner for now. His Mage class didn''t gain a star, so this didn''t count as a promotion. His notifications said that these two opposing Mana Types now are no longer opposing. He made them work together using a skill. What would happen, now that they are willing to work together? Using [Mana Steal] now, a cloud of black mist poured out of his palm anda set of sharp violet teeth grew out of it. {Alert! [Mana Steal¡ï¡ï¡ï¡ï] is reacting to Gluttony trait! [Mana Steal¡ï¡ï¡ï¡ï ] has become [Energy Devour¡ï]!} He turned off the skill and opened his Spellcraft window. He was about to start dissecting the [Greater Arrow] spell when his dad called him for dinner. He logged out before he could read a new notification. {Your soul has gotten a little stronger.}
