《Fausto and the tale of two》


 Meet Faust

    In the great plains of the land of Terra Nova, the peaceful grass that was once brushed with the harmonious winds was now raze by fire and blood. In the year 2130, what used to be the United Republic of States finally rippled the country between two parties who could no longer let pen be mightier than the sword. It ignited guns and cannons as the sparks of war raged between two sides. Torn between ideologies and rights, what was left of a great country was now torn into the second civil war with no end in sight. For the soldiers, fighting was the only form of resolution. After years of battle, it seem like the war was finally reaching its end as this was the decisive battle.


    ¡°This is unit 5. We are getting overrun, we need reinforcements!!!!¡±


    ¡°Medic!! Medic!!!¡±


    ¡°We need help!!!¡± Several soldiers were crying in the battlefield as the terrors of war followed. Cartridges were being emptied, tanks abandoned while burning planes were raining from the skies. Chaos continue to rage as order was trying to be found.


    ¡°Sir, we need to fall back!!!¡±


    ¡°No, if we lose here, then we lost the war!!!!¡± With nothing behind them this was the last line. For both sides this was the last roll of the dice. And because of that, whatever both sides had was all that was left. Both sides were exhausted with neither side gaining an edge. Yet both were giving it their all in hopes fortune favored one over the other. Yet soon they will find fortune favored neither side.


    ¡°We need help to arriv¡­Who are they?!!!¡± A soldier in disbelief as they saw twelve figures in white hooded robes walk in the midst of the battlefield. In the crossfires of war, these twelve walk as though nothing could harm them. Stray bullets and artillery would land near them yet they will continue to walk as if the bullets were mere snowflakes. Walking to the top of a hill overlooking the battlefield, they brought the war to its climax. With the leader in front, he stretched his hand to the sky as though he was calling forth a god. Like a ritual, the other eleven bowed with one on the head and one hand on the heart. Glowing was blinding light the leader was illuminating the entire battlefield with his mere presence as the sounds of gunfire and explosion all stopped. Cracks soon ruptured through the clouds as the sun shined upon the war. From darkness, it was the light at the end of the tunnel. This light however was not for the soldiers as their life soon faded with the light.


    ¡°Who are they!!?¡¯ All the soldiers could only ask the same question from both sides. Dropping everything, all could just stare as the sky wondering what would happen next. Questions continued to spiral as the suns¡¯s ray continue to descend on the battlefield. It''s as if the sun had move closer. Water was evaporating, plants were drying and souls were extinguishing. Flashing before their very eyes they couldn¡¯t even breathe as the light envelope all ¡­¡­¡­..KaBooom!!!!! A large explosion obliterated everyone present on the battlefield. With a single flash, millions of soldiers were wipe off the map along what was left of the war torn land. All the soldiers had become ashes to the now desolate land. Nothing was left¡­.except the twelve robe figures remaining on the hill. To be exact eleven as the one that raised his hands to the sky soon disappeared. Paying a price for power he was more than willing to take.


    Rising, the now eleven figures looked at the war torn land. Yet there was no sadness as tears shed with joy. They have destroyed everything from its land to its people. The Country that was still in tatters could now have a new beginning. New light has approached for much of New Terra and the entire world as it wasn¡¯t the future that needed to be feared. As the true terror came from the dark past.


    Twenty years later¡­..


    ¡°Today is the twentieth anniversary of the creation of New Eden in the year 2150. Today we want to honour the Apostle who has risked his life to end the civil war in the United Republic of States. Taking control of the country, the new group, the Twelve Paladins of Light or Diviners has now dawned a new era for the country. Our country of Avalon has now reached new heights in education, medicine and technological advancement. Backed by Diviners, our country continues to prosper from the great horrors of the past. For the special occasion many of our great leaders of the country will be gathered in the Capital city of Camelot. Please come out to celebrate this joyous occasion.¡±


    While listening to the hologram screen, the man puts on his outfit. Checking himself in the mirror he combed his short dark black hair with his dark purple eyes. Exiting his room, he casually walks to a car. Driving across the city amongst the parade, there was no sign of sadness for anyone. Not even a homeless guy to beg or a person to feel the suffering of the society. Suffering only exists outside the city as holograms everywhere have news of riots and protests. That wasn¡¯t a concern for anyone today, fortunately.


    Arriving in an empty garage, he then formed a top half face mask which then covered his hair in white as the only thing showing is his purple eyes. Keeping his identity hidden he then walks out of the car towards a stranger who just walks pass him as he slips an interesting card next to him. The two didn¡¯t exchange greetings as the stranger was tossed the keys from behind. Leaving without a word both continued to their respective task.


    Walking towards the elevator, the now masked man then looked at time to see if everything was on schedule. Appearing in front of an old elevator, it seemed to be out of order. Inserting the card into the elevator button, the elevator started to open showing that it was fully functional. Entering it he then let the elevator do its work as he ready himself for the mission. Casually listening to the elevator music, it was a spectacle to see a masked man enjoying the music. Others wonder if he took the mission lightly. Yet for him it''s not the process but the end result that matters. Exiting the elevator, he seemed rather calm as he then looked to see the sun as it was slowly descending for the day. Everything was in place as he started his mission.


    Standing at the top of the building, he could see the celebration at the capitol building from afar. It made it even more obvious with the building being heavily guarded by helicopters, snipers and tanks. All stood for any attempts of assassination. But the Masked man was thinking of something else. The light is starting to dim, the audience have gathered, the cast has been set and finally the most important part must arrive. The conflict. With a perfect setting its time for him to make a scene. Gesturing his hand, light energy gathered around to form a long rifle. Observing the ceremony he noticed the target was unaware of his fate. The masked man smiled as his purple eyes gleamed with excitement.


    ¡°Well Fausto, let''s see how it ends.¡± Whoosh he then fired the shot.


    Few minutes before


    The capital city Camelot, the most technological and largest city of the country of Avalon and in the Northern of the Terra Nova region. Spanning across the land from its previous rulers, Avalon has changed much of the country of its previous republic. No longer is this a democratic country with everyone having the power of voice. Now there are twelve families who govern this country. Families that had enormous power figuratively and literally as they can kill anyone at a whim. No matter what anyone says, there voice is will be the first and last say.


    Despite being under control of the Twelve, also came with a compromise. Instead of treated as lowly beings, many were given opportunities to reach higher status. For those who aren¡¯t born from the Twelve, many who have excellent skills can join the bureaucracy or achieve high position in their field. Also given a high status, they would be considered official citizens of Avalon. They are called Avalonians who are glady treated well while experiencing a good life and given a high position deserving of their work.


    To give Avalonians a fair bit of rights, some form of democracy was formed as the neoclassical government buildings were still used. It now house the hierarchy of those on the top of the Avalon ladder. All those from stars, entrepreneurs, general, Scientist, scholars, politicians and even athletes. Anyone who had contributed to the growth of the country were given the greatest honors as they were invited to be part of this festive gathering. Of course those of high status are mostly important figures who aren''t of the twelve families. Only those born diviners are given the highest rank.


    Walking along the white carpet one by one, it was a joyous moment for all the people to see. Showing everyone who has worked hard the rewards they get for making Avalon great. All who desire to be part of their society and work hard will prosper within the city. So getting to be part of this event is a time for many to not work and just relax while enjoying the beauty of their work of making their country great. However for the guards all of them were rather tense about it. If one of these figures were to be killed their punishment would be severe. To ease the load, there was one man in particular that was standing in front of the entrance. Compared to the average soldier who were only allowed to wear silver. He wore a different uniform as it was gold white with gold lines around. With the Insignia of a Dodecagram with a sword in the middle on the right side of their coat, it revealed they are a special force beyond what normal humans were. Carrying two pistols on his side with a weird contraption connected to his glasses, everyone knew of his status. He was a Cleanser, a diviner part of the security force that enforces and protects the interest of the order within the city.     ¡°Is everything clear in the sky?¡± Taking off his hat he waved his light blue hair as he put his hat right back on. A lean built man that had a serene face with a charming look that soothes your mind. Surveying the roof, he looked to see anyone suspicious.


    "Yes it''s clear." An Avalonian soldier reported.


    ¡°Do we have all eyes on the roof?¡±


    ¡°Yes the roofs are clear.¡±


    ¡°Any suspicious individual among the crowd?¡±


    ¡°No sir. We already apprehend a few of them but they pose no threat.¡± Guarding the path, the soldiers then guided an old man wearing a golden military uniform. He was waving towards the crowd as he was approaching the capitol building without worry. He had faith in the people who were protecting him after all.


    ¡°Good right now the commander of the city defences is coming out the door. Make sure you¡­..¡± Bew. At the moment, the man they were protecting just got shot in the head. ¡°Man down!!!¡± Leonardo screamed as he soon rushed to the commander to see if he was okay. But the crowd was already in an uproar as all of them were frantic about taking a few seconds to process what had just happen.¡°Surround the commander!!!!¡± He screamed as he looked at the body. It was a perfect shot to the head with no pulse remaining.


    ¡°The commander is dead sir!!!¡± One of the security guards said. This frustrated Leonardo as he had failed his mission. With all the preparation to avoid this calamity, he didn''t expect a sniper to kill him. All of sudden, the joyous event that was suppose to signify the greatness of this country, was now stained by this attack.


    ¡°Expand the perimeter, find the assailant right now!!!!¡± He screamed. ¡°Take the man to the Hospital of Eden. Get Dr. Fausto to come immediately after he arrives.


    ¡°Yes sir!!¡± A team then grabbed the commander as they carefully carry his corpse away.


    ¡°How is it possible?¡± Leonardo questioned as he looked around as there wasn¡¯t a single building within a few miles that had any snipers. He then looked at the direction of where the attack came from. To his disbelief there was a building 5 miles away. ¡°Heli 4 go check the building 5 miles to the north east and see if there is anyone there?!!!¡±


    ¡°Yes sir but it''s five miles away. There is no sniper that can possibly shoot from that far?¡± The helicopter pilot said as he was proceeding to look at the building doubting to see a soul. ¡°I can''t¡­.. wait a minute. There is someone there!!! He is wearing a dark coat with a white mask with purple eyes!!¡± Straight away when everyone heard it, they knew it was the famous assassin in the region. He had a name that many knew all to well.


    ¡°It''s Menace!!!!¡± One of the soldiers screamed as he shivered in fear. Though it wasn¡¯t a impressive nickname for an assassin. Yet the name installed much fear to many as he had a reputation that is much different than most assassin, that however doesn¡¯t change how dangerous he was. Some of them were about to step back or retreat as they knew that dealing with him usually ends up in death. For them mostly as no one has ever survived a mission capturing him. Well for humans anyway.


    ¡°Calm down. Surround him immediately. Don¡¯t let him escape!!!¡± Fortunately a Diviner was there as Leonardo, who had heard that name before, wasn''t fazed. With his power there wasn¡¯t a need to fear such a person.


    ¡°Yes sir!!! I have a vision on him. He...he jumped off the building right now!!!¡±


    ¡°Wait right there I¡¯m on my way.¡± Rushing to the helicopter drone, the helicopter lifted him off to the scene. But during the process Leonardo then presses a button on his pistols.¡±This is Leonardo of Lancelot. Confirming activation of the limiter. Engaging a suspicious individual named Menace.¡± Then the glasses were activated showing augmented reality content into its lens.


    ¡°Voice recognition approved. Allowing of ability has been confirmed. Total battle capability is at 100 percent. Reporting situation to headquarters.¡± The robotic voice said back as the guns in the holster then unlocked allowing him to use them.


    ¡°Where is he?¡±


    ¡°Sir he is currently in between alleyways, it''s hard to see where he is. But we have surrounded the area and he shouldn¡¯t be able to escape at all.¡±


    ¡°Good I¡¯m on my way.¡± Leonardo said as he coordinated the helicopter to rendezvous with the rest of the soldiers. Using his glasses he was trying to see through the walls and the surrounding buildings. Finding nothing at first he noticed that there was light appearing in a certain alley.


    ¡°Sir we see him!! Freeze or we will Ahhh!!¡± Some of the soldiers spotted him but before they could do anything had already met death doors. With no time, Leonardo immediately jumped off from the helicopter before it could descend. Using his gun he created a hook as he threw it at the wall as rope in a form of light soon help him slow his descent. Soon as he descended, he could see Menace who was running right towards Leonardo as he seemingly was awaiting his arrival.


    ¡°Engaging target!!!¡± Landing Leonardo then shot beams of light directly at Menace. Thinking Menace would die upon contact with the light, Menace immediately glowed as the shots didn¡¯t seem to impact nor faze him. ¡°Thats??!!¡± Leonardo was surprised as he didn¡¯t see it coming. He had heard of Menace being a Diviner but never believed it. Menace then with the same powers as Leonardo created his gun out of thin air. Returning the favor, Menace pointed his gun right at Leonardo as he fire light energy at Leonardo. Knowing the dangers of those light projectiles, Leonardo protected himself with a light shield.


    ¡°Oh no... looks like I¡¯m in the spotlight?!! I wonder how did you found me?¡± Menace joke casually. He didn¡¯t seem all that concerned at all. This irritated Leonardo as he then combined the pistol together creating a large cannon.


    ¡°Put your hands up!!! Either surrender now or Die!!!¡± Giving time, more soldiers surrounded the alleyway as Menace had no escape. With everyone pointing their weapons at him, it seem escape was impossible for Menace. But unlike Menace, the soldiers were more tense than him. Holding their breath, they were relieved that Menace raised both his hands to lighten the mood. Little did they know, they let their guard down too soon.


    ¡°.....I¡¯m sorry but can you call me Assassin? I hate the name Menace.¡± Despite being surrounded and knowing his position his name was the only thing he was worried about. Which then cause Leonardo to be rather disappointed with a him. For a Diviner to stoop so low as to be an assassin.


    ¡°Menace!!! I¡¯m giving you one more chance. Surrender and your punishment be less painful. Leonardo felt pity for the fool. Is he that crazy to want to die like this? Signalling everyone to fire, Menace interrupted as he clasp his hands together. Soon a ball of light formed as he open his hands as the ball split into two. Pointing at both entryways he made soldiers wonder who actually had the trigger.


    ¡°Well guess its a good thing, I think twice before I get myself killed.¡± Sensing danger, Leonardo anticipated what would happen next leaving many of the soldiers helpless to Menace¡¯s attack. Then the balls of light glowed even brighter as he release it right at the soldiers. Two large explosions soon was released as both attacks was so large it made contact with each other that even Menace had to protect himself from his own attack. Leonardo did the same as he was the only one other than Menace who could create a barrier to protect himself from the attack. BOOM the entire area exploded. Engulfing all the soldiers, tanks and helis, everyone who was taken by the light were instantly blown in by its destructive force. With just one person alone, Menace destroyed hundreds of soldiers along with tens of buildings with his light energy. A phenomenon that Leonardo knew all too well. This was a power that diviners hold. This was the reason he was also called the Divine menace. It wasn¡¯t the mask. It had to do with the power he wields. Lowering his hands as he does a gentleman''s bow, Menace then stop his attack as he triumphantly praise what he had done. "And voila!!!!!"


    ¡°This can¡¯t be¡­..¡± Leonardo was in shock as he couldn¡¯t believe Menace used that much power. He looked at the alleyway¡­. Well what was the alleyway as it was now a large crater. They all were dead, all the soldiers¡­.. ¡°Dam you!!¡± In frustration, Leonardo then pointed the gun as he shot a powerful blast of light at Menace¡¯s face. Menace casually didn¡¯t move even when it was hitting his mask. In fact he didn¡¯t seem fazed, he just casually let it be. After all comparing attacks, Menace was far stronger. Frustrated, Leonardo could only pour more energy to try to see if something happened. Letting him have his chance of victory, Menace stood there taking the attack head on. After some effort it led to Menace¡¯s mask starting to crack. A bit surprised, it still didn¡¯t faze Menace however as he was waiting on something to happen. Leonardo on the other hand saw his opportune moment as he wanted to exhibit more energy but¡­..


    ¡°Warning warning. You are expending more energy than necessary. Forcing body to stop now.¡± The robotic voice said as Leonardo for some reason stopped using his attack. He then lowered himself as he fell to his knees in pain as cracks started to form around his face. A shield was then created. ¡°Defense activated. Waiting for the rescue team to come.¡±


    ¡°Haaa¡­¡± Yet it couldn¡¯t come at a worst time for Leonardo who was trying to fight.


    ¡°So that''s it huh? Not the climactic battle I was expecting.¡± Menace sighs before then walking away. Looking at how his device was forcefully stopping him from attacking was no surprise to him as he knew what the goggles were for. He on the other hand didn¡¯t have those.


    ¡°Wait!!! Come back!!!¡± Leonardo said as he tried to get back on his feet. But he was restrained by the device on his glasses.


    ¡°Unfortunately I going to have to leave soon. Especially¡­¡± Menace then looked to see from afar there were a dozen soldiers arriving at the scene that were wearing the same outfits as Leonardo. Along with them was a large number of soldiers with guns. ¡°Well you know why. Bye!!!¡± Menace waved as he ran away.


    ¡°After him!!!¡± A middle to old man yelled, the Cleansers chased after Menace. Looking at the dark silver bearded man then approaching Leonardo. ¡°You okay?¡± The leader had two swords crossing on the badge showing that he was that of a higher rank. Using his gun, he then tapped Leonardo''s shield that then vanished. His name was Joseph, the leader of the Cleanser that is in charge of the city defenses.


    ¡°I¡¯m fine!! I could have taken him?¡± Leonardo said showing frustration with his limiter as it stopped him from fighting. ¡°Joseph, why do we have these limiters? I could have taken him.¡± However Joseph didn¡¯t think so as he notice the cracks starting to fade on Leonardo¡¯s body. Through his perspective he believed that Menace was the superior fighter.


    ¡°If you did then the limiter wouldn¡¯t have activated.¡± Joseph then fired his gun at the building. With one shot it caused a huge hole that destroyed a 6 story building. ¡°Same energy but different results.¡± Leonardo was furious because compared to Joseph, who is his teacher, he was still weak.


    ¡°But I just needed more.¡± Letting his emotion get the best of him, Leonardo was not happy about getting the help he needed. Joseph though stopped him as though he was dealing with a child. Well in his age it seemed to be the case.


    ¡°Get over it. You are still young. As you grow, your powers will grow stronger. It just takes time and practice.¡± Preaching patients to Leonardo, who was talented, needed to realise that growth can¡¯t always be forced. ¡°We are heading back now. We have to report this to Arthur.¡± Getting back to the current situation, Joseph was interested in chasing this rogue diviner himself as he was wanting to fight him. Thinking that his subordinates were well off, left that responsibility to his underlings. Though he was stronger than Leonardo, Menace was viewed weak in his eyes. Knowing his priorities he reported to Arthur who would decide the rogue''s fate.


    ¡°Yes sir¡­.¡± The both then went in the car as it drove them back to the capitol building. Leaving Menace to others, they didn''t realise the other rumours about Menace. For the Menace, even when has the light side of him, there is a dark side of him as well. After all, there was no such thing as being one, without the other.

 The return of the old

    Prologue


    In the lands of Terra, in the beginning of the 22nd century, what was new became old and what''s old became new. Government systems that was once herald to help protect and provide, began to crumble. No longer can the system equality keep the peace as unrest started to grow. Thus in order to bring peace, governments of old rise again. Empires conquer those of the Republics and Oligarchy were chosen over democracy. No longer did the people have power. Instead, the power were rest to those of the few to benefit the many.


    Such actions didn¡¯t sit well with many as revolution and riots sprang forth. Many politicians were attacked with houses burned and leaders killed. Many of the worlds, economy crashed in a single day. Even the military with all their mights couldn¡¯t stopped the masses without having to fire their weapons. From all over the world Terra was in chaos that couldn¡¯t be reversed with words. Thus it came with no choice from the higher ups to call upon powers beyond what modern technology could achieve. True power.


    Soon many clans and Orders hidden in the dark came out. Powers who were once dominant in the past, resurface in order to bring stability to the situation. Magicians used their magic to sway people to their side through force or illusions. Worshipper protected by their gods crushed all those who defy their authority. Warriors with their blades cleave those who resist. The beginning of the 22nd century were marked by bloodshed never seen before since the world wars several centuries ago. The 22nd century was then called the Bloody Renaissance.


    With powerful clans and orders taking power, much of the transitions happened faster that forced many to yield to the new order rather they like it or not. However on the world of Terra there was two continents. Distinguish by which was discovered first, the first continent was old Terra as it was the first one to be inhabited. New terra across the vast ocean was called New Terra. Old Terra having built long lineage and history had created many powerful families and organizations who had been dormant for so long. With the backing of the military and government many of those hidden powers quickly rose to power, solidifying the new rule.


    Among those powers, two stood amongst the rest that were far stronger than the rest. Diviners who holds the power of light. They with the power of light could create any weapon they so desire and destroy all those who cross their path. Then there were the Shadow Dwellers, feared for being elite assassins at night, who could move through the shadows and summon weapons at will. No matter where you hide, Shadow dwellers will always find you. Two dominant powers that no one dare face head on.


    Despite the two being the most elite amongst the rest, neither earned or were supported by any governments. This was because of both of their refusal to collaborate with any government. This is also due to the two also being the strongest but also being direct enemy to each other as sworn enemies. Both sides have strong desires to exterminate each other till not a single one of their bloodline exist. With both side pitting each other constantly was at a standpoint in their own cold war. That is until the Bloody Renaissance started and the birth of two little girls¡­.who would define the century and the world. Helping the two was an anomaly of one unfortunate soul¡­or was it two¡­


    In an anonymous time


    Twiligh, the time when night and day come together. A moment where the light of dawn meets the shadows of dusk. Beginning for many as it signals the start of life yet brings the beginning of the end. Thus on the day of the Equinox it was how this baby would be born and live. A blessing or a curse? Living between Shadow and Light. Two sides that would never be one. Born a forbidden existence, a child would forever change the future as ancient stories of the past will shape the future.


    In a remote countryside, there was a small villa. With not even water or tree to be seen it was a wonder who live in such impoverished land. Yet there were three anticipating new life to be the seed that would soon nourish these fields. This was the day a baby was born.


    ¡°Oh look at this wonderful child!!!¡± Cradling the baby, a maid was showing it to the bedridden mother who had given birth just a moment ago. Exhausted yet glad as she was proud to give birth to such a beautiful child. Happiness overwhelms the body more than fatigue.


    ¡°He is lovely isn¡¯t he¡­¡±


    ¡°Yes he is¡­..take a rest now. You would have plenty of time to play with it later.¡± Looking at the baby together was a sight to behold to the two as they kept playing with the babies¡¯ hand.


    ¡°Waaaahhhh.¡± The baby was moving as it didn¡¯t look asleep. The maid then put the baby on the bed to be next to its mother.


    ¡°Oh look he''s awake!!!¡± Playing with the baby, the two found it so cute that he was so active, till they finally noticed something. ¡°What beautiful eyes he has, they¡­¡± The maid was looking just to notice something odd. His eyes were red. Both were surprised as they never seen such a baby with purple eyes. Yet the baby was full of surprises as nightmare was only getting worse.


    ¡°Thats¡­¡± Wanting to say what was going on with the baby, there was another shock that came after the sun had set. Soon as the darkness rose, the baby with its light soon faded as shadows started to arose as gold was lit in his eyes, the only thing that was light behind it was darkness.


    ¡°This¡­.milady¡­he¡­.¡± Both couldn¡¯t believe the phenomenon that was happening before them. Speechless there wasn¡¯t anyone that was thrilled to see what transpired. An enigma, concern was the only facial expression that was formed between the two.     ¡°Did I miss anything?!!¡± Arriving with some medicine, the father came in excited to see the baby. Though he was in for a treat as the maid instantly showed the baby to him. Ignoring the shadows, it seem the maid didn¡¯t fear touching the shadow.


    ¡°Milord he¡­!!¡± Urgently showing him the baby, the maid was distress in how to explain the abnormality. It was something to be excited about for the dad. To have the maid panicking, something was terribly wrong.


    ¡°What?¡± The father then grabbed the baby as he carefully looked at him. Touching the body, the father instantly changed his expression as anxiety spread through his face. Looking at his wife he showed a face that she never would have to imagine. It was a face that was seeing death. ¡°He is ¡­.dying¡­.¡±


    ¡°What???!!!!¡± Collapsing on the bed, the wife couldn¡¯t believe it. The baby they just had was¡­was¡­going¡­.to die¡­?


    ¡°Honey what do we do?¡± Even she had not seen such an occurrence for much of her life. Forget bedridden and resting, there was no time to lose.


    ¡°Is he cursed??¡± Everyone was worried as the child also showed different expressions from before. The once active child showed drowsiness. As if there was another being that was also born at the same time. Immediately the maid closed the door and shut the room from the outside.


    ¡°We must leave here at once!!¡± Gathering their things, the father could no longer enjoy the day of his son¡¯s birth. The sentiment were shared by everyone in the room.


    ¡°Yes¡­AH!!!!¡± Trying to get out of bed, the mother struggled as her body was already weakened from giving birth. Forcing herself out but she had no power in her legs to follow along. The maid tried to help but it seemed like she struggled to help the mom up. At her current state it seemed like the mom couldn¡¯t leave with the rest of the family.


    ¡°Please, you have to stay! If you were to disappear with us it would cause more danger for the kid.¡±


    ¡°Yes we can travel without anyone''s notice. Right now no one knows of this. So you will be safe.¡± The maid and father were in agreement. ¡°We can take him to someplace safe. Far away from anyone''s grasp. We have someone that can help him.¡±


    ¡°But¡­¡± The mom was not happy about it one bit as she knew if that was to happen, this would be its one and only time she could see him. From now to forever. The husband then brought the baby to her as they gave a final family hug.


    ¡°What matters is his life. We need to protect him.¡± Finally accepting that decision, the mom let the baby go. Before she did, she soon had a necklace she grabbed on her counter as she let the baby hold it. The father soon covered the baby as the two then planned to head out the door.


    ¡°Fausto.¡±


    ¡°What?¡± The two then turned around to the mom who shouted the name.


    ¡°Fausto is his name.¡± Resonating with the baby, he soon smiled which made the father and maid happy as well. Even the mom was delighted even though many didn¡¯t know that they named not one but two at one time. Closing the lights the three vanished soon after, never to be seen by her again. She then prayed as she said these words. ¡°May the light of thought be your sword and shield, let the light of heart be your guide and soul.¡±


    In the great plains of the land of Terra Nova, the peaceful grass that was once brushed with the harmonious winds was now raze by fire and blood. In the year 2130, what used to be the United Republic of States finally rippled the country between two parties who could no longer let pen be mightier than the sword. It ignited guns and cannons as the sparks of war raged between two sides. Torn between ideologies and rights, what was left of a great country was now torn into the second civil war with no end in sight. For the soldiers, fighting was the only form of resolution. After years of battle, it seem like the war was finally reaching its end as this was the decisive battle.


    ¡°This is unit 5. We are getting overrun, we need reinforcements!!!!¡±


    ¡°Medic!! Medic!!!¡±


    ¡°We need help!!!¡± Several soldiers were crying in the battlefield as the terrors of war followed. Cartridges were being emptied, tanks abandoned while burning planes were raining from the skies. Chaos continue to rage as order was trying to be found.


    ¡°Sir, we need to fall back!!!¡±


    ¡°No, if we lose here, then we lost the war!!!!¡± With nothing behind them this was the last line. For both sides this was the last roll of the dice. And because of that, whatever both sides had was all that was left. Both sides were exhausted with neither side gaining an edge. Yet both were giving it their all in hopes fortune favored one over the other. Yet soon they will find fortune favored neither side.


    ¡°We need help to arriv¡­Who are they?!!!¡± A soldier in disbelief as they saw twelve figures in white hooded robes walk in the midst of the battlefield. In the crossfires of war, these twelve walk as though nothing could harm them. Stray bullets and artillery would land near them yet they will continue to walk as if the bullets were mere snowflakes. Walking to the top of a hill overlooking the battlefield, they brought the war to its climax. With the leader in front, he stretched his hand to the sky as though he was calling forth a god. Like a ritual, the other eleven bowed with one on the head and one hand on the heart. Glowing was blinding light the leader was illuminating the entire battlefield with his mere presence as the sounds of gunfire and explosion all stopped. Cracks soon ruptured through the clouds as the sun shined upon the war. From darkness, it was the light at the end of the tunnel. This light however was not for the soldiers as their life soon faded with the light.


    ¡°Who are they!!?¡¯ All the soldiers could only ask the same question from both sides. Dropping everything, all could just stare as the sky wondering what would happen next. Questions continued to spiral as the suns¡¯s ray continue to descend on the battlefield.  It''s as if the sun had move closer. Water was evaporating, plants were drying and souls were extinguishing. Flashing before their very eyes they couldn¡¯t even breathe as the light envelope all ¡­¡­¡­..KaBooom!!!!! A large explosion obliterated everyone present on the battlefield. With a single flash, millions of soldiers were wipe off the map along what was left of the war torn land. All the soldiers had become ashes to the now desolate land. Nothing was left¡­.except the twelve robe figures remaining on the hill. To be exact eleven as the one that raised his hands to the sky soon disappeared. Paying a price for  power he was more than willing to take.


    Rising, the now eleven figures looked at the war torn land. Yet there was no sadness as tears shed with joy. They have destroyed everything from its land to its people. A Country was still in tatters could now have a new beginning. New light has approached for much of New Terra and the entire world as it wasn¡¯t the future that needed to be feared. As the true terror came from the dark past.

 Meet Fausto

    Meanwhile¡­.sprinting across dark alleys was a violet haired lady wearing scrubs. Though this is a good...well most secure city, that doesn¡¯t mean you should go in dark alleys. Nevertheless running between buildings, the lady was parkouring around the turns with ease. Compared to running, her thoughts however were far from calm as she was trying to contact someone in a hurry.


    ¡°I¡¯m so late!..........Yeah hey Livia, I¡¯ll be there soon.¡± Hearing several cannon fire and explosions close by she was already aware of the amber alert. Yet she didn¡¯t seem to care at all since she felt being late on her first day was far worse than a criminal nearby. Getting rather close, along the way she heard a crack. Looking to see what it was she noticed that a guy with a mask and a black suit was running by. She then noticed the broken mask as she saw the face of the person. He had purple eyes which was unusual for a person to have. But what was more interesting was the face. Had she seen that face before. But that face disappeared as he quickly left. At the same time, she lost her balance as she tripped on her own feet. ¡°OWWWW!¡± She collapsed and hit a metal trash dump. It was a big metal trash dump. ¡°Ahhh¡­.well that...stinks.¡± Getting her face off the metal trash, she rubbed her face. Yet looking at her face she looked like nothing happened with not even a red mark on her. Well except for her clothes that were rather dirty. ¡°Darn I just cleaned this.¡± Trying to wipe it off, she then heard several footsteps. She panicked as to what was going on to soon realise that soldiers surrounded her.


    ¡°Have you seen the guy with a white mask?¡± A cleanser said. She then collapses in fear knowing who they were automatically. Cleansers. Just seeing the coats already put fear into her legs.


    ¡°You are a Cleanser..¡± She said nervously as she thought she was in trouble. They are like police but with authority as even one chance of suspicion could lead to arrest or even worse.. death.


    ¡°Did you see the man with the mask!!!??¡± He screamed as he had no patience wwith her.


    ¡°Yeah...ah..yeah..he went that way¡­¡± Pointing in that direction, the cleanser then continued their pursuit.


    ¡°Let''s go!!¡± One of them said, leaving her bewildered as to what just happened. However the sun was coming down as she realised the time.


    ¡°Oh damn I¡¯m going to be really late!!¡± She then ran in the opposite direction of the masked man not knowing that they would eventually meet again.


    Upon the sun setting, Menace was covering the missing part of the face. He realised that he saw a woman looking at her the moment the mask was dissipating. It would be considered bad timing but he had no time to worry about that now. Right now getting rid of all the people that surrounded him was his problem, only to then arrive at a dead end. Wanting to turn back, it was too late as he was soon cornered.


    ¡°Hello Menace. Why don¡¯t you save us the trouble and turn yourself in.¡± One of the Cleansers says in satisfaction.


    ¡°It''s Assassin..¡± Interrupting again, Menace wanted to change his name to assassin but everyone continued to call him Menace.


    ¡°Why the rush before we capture him? We should teach him a lesson for humiliating us.¡± Another said. However Menace didn¡¯t seem all that scared.


    ¡°It seems like I might have been too excessive wouldn¡¯t you say¡­? Might we let this one slide?¡± Hearing that some of them were already wanting to fire, however, one of them stopped all of them.


    ¡°Ceasefire. Remember, we need to find out who he is.¡± He then got closer along with everyone else so that they could restrain Menace. Pulling a device out of his pocket, the Cleanser then activated a device that was emitting green light. Just like that, the cleanser then got out close quarter weapons as their pistols soon were turned to batons. Menace was confused but trying to create his weapon then realized that nothing was forming.


    ¡°So you can turn off the lights¡­So this can nullify the use of light energy¡­¡± He then realised that his mask was slowly fading as his face along with his disguise started revealing itself. Taking a step back he then covered his face in the shadows to keep his face hidden. To the others however it seems he stepped back in fear that he couldn¡¯t fight without his powers. Truth be told, there was a smile as he seemed rather surprised. "So the rumors were true."


    ¡°We Diviners also trained in close combat. So I hope you are prepared to face the consequences of defying us.¡± Smiling, they were going to enjoy the beat down. Punishment before the torture was always a plus. Letting time slip however wasn''t. Soon someone else appeared to replace Menace. The one they thought to be Menace was shrouded in darkness bringing out another existence. A voice now calling to his arrival, no one noticed the purple eyes turning gold.


    ¡°Then I won¡¯t make this long. I¡¯m on a tight schedule.¡± Hearing the voice they then felt the voice slowly fading as it was going further away from them. Finding it strange they tried to show light through the entire area to realize he wasn¡¯t there. Looking everywhere they were scanning for any trap doors or mechanisms to let him escape.


    ¡°What?¡±


    ¡°Where did he go?¡± Pointing light everywhere, the diviners were stunned to see him gone. As the sun completely set the entire area was dark. Leaving the diviners helpless to the night.If you find this story on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen. Please report the infringement.


    ¡°Dam we had..ugh..¡± Before one of them could say anything he soon was struck at the neck that caused him to collapse. Others tried to notice what was going on before then being attacked as well. Soon as each of them were being knocked out, the lights got dimmer and dimmer. And soon light was diminished as fast as they lit.


    ¡°Close combat or not. Prove it through action. Next time please don¡¯t waste my time talking?¡± Menace''s change of voice also had a change from a joking one to a rather calmer one. However this didn¡¯t make it any better. Just like that he disappeared within the shadows. Looking around, reinforcements arrived to try to spot a light at where they heard the voice. However the lights were soon destroyed as noises of glass breaking and bones snapping. Several of the soldiers were getting beat and knocked out without being able to see the assaliant. One managed to look up as he could only see the eyes that were lit up. He had glowing golden eyes. It was shining just as bright as day. Which was strange for someone who was trying to hide in the shadows.


    ¡°You ...it can¡¯t be...you are a¡­¡± That was the last thing one of the diviners said before she then left unconscious.


    ¡°Sorry but I have no time for you guys.¡± He then looked at the time. ¡°They should be delivering him by now.¡± He then got a white surgeon coat as it then showed the nametag. Doctor Fausto. In that instant vanishing to the shadows as though he wasn¡¯t there.


    Half away across the city, an hour away from where Menace was seen was the Avalon Medical District. In this district was the Avalonian Emergency sector which housed some of the best surgeons known to man. Providing medical benefits to all those who are considered Avalonians. They are given the best medical services money can buy. With the new government system, all Avalonians could get them as long as they paid a fair fee using a small fraction of their paycheck. This was also called the place of miracles as you will find out soon.


    ¡°Ha..ha...I arrived!!!¡± The violet haired lady said while panting as she had finally made it to the hospital. Getting to the hospital, she then noticed an azure-haired petite asian lady waving to her.


    ¡°Karma, where have you been? And why do you sniff..sniff..smell like trash?¡±


    ¡°Don¡¯t ask. Do you have a spare scrub?¡± Karma said as she was trying to wipe so of the smell off. Tying back her long violet hair she then made sure her makeup was still good.


    ¡°Yeah it''s in my car. I''ll grab it.¡±


    ¡°Thanks Livia!¡± Karma said as she went to join with other Surgeons. Meeting one of the nurses on the counter, Karma handed her papers. ¡°Hi I¡¯m Karma chan. I''m here to start my training.¡± Today for the hospital was the day all new medical students were arriving. One of the great benefits of the hospital is the one on one supervision from high-quality doctors and surgeons. Because of the promise of protection many who seek a place to practice their medical craft, all moved to Camelot. Even when this country was newly formed, many saw the Diviners as the greatest form of protection. Thus many forgo their loyalty to their country to move to this country in hopes of furthering the advancement in medicine.


    ¡°Ah, welcome. Please wait for the others. We have an announcement soon.¡±


    ¡°Oh okay. What is going on?¡±


    ¡°Right now a patient is in need of a serious operation. So rather than choosing your supervisor we want you guys to see the surgery firsthand.¡±


    ¡°What surgery?¡± Despite the seriousness of the situation, Karma noticed that the nurse was more excited than scared.


    ¡°This is the operation that created the name God¡¯s hand.¡± Hearing that everyone stared at the nurse before all going giddy from the news.


    ¡°You mean we get to see the surgery personally done by Dr. Fausto¡­¡±


    ¡°Yes!!!¡±


    ¡°Woahhh!!¡± Everyone then started to spark excitment from the news. Dr. Fausto was what all surgeons strive to be. For the last few years, Dr.Fausto Galen has done impossible surgeries doing every surgery you could imagine saving people''s life. Brain, spinal, heart, lungs and more. There were so many surgeries that he was involved in that it was amazing someone who is 26 could be this accomplished. Fausto even brought people back to life as well, giving him the name he didn¡¯t like God''s hand. When he started he was in the outskirts of the cities. After his contributions, he was personally invited by the Diviners to come to Camelot to be their main surgeon. Many Avalonians love him for being able to save most of the patients he had received. In fact, after his arrival, the amount of people wanting surgeries increased so that he could perform a miracle on them. Even for Diviners as they believe he could do more than just heal the average human. So whenever he performs an operation, it''s another addition to his legacy.


    ¡°What? Did I miss something?¡± Livia said as she was curious as to what just happened. She could see the excitement from everyone, even Karma. All except herself.


    In the surgical room, everyone was the opposite of those outside. Staring at the lifeless corpse there was no way a dead person could be resurrected as they clearly saw a bullet hole through the head. This was beyond their capability even though this was the top hospital in the world with the best medical technology. None have been able to succeed in the operation to fix a brain, especially one that was missing quite a bit of it.


    ¡°What do we do?!!!!¡±


    ¡°Where is he? Has he answered his phone calls.¡±


    ¡°No, I haven¡¯t been able to reach him!!¡±


    ¡°What do we do!!! If we don¡¯t do anything soon he might permanently be dead.¡± The surgeons were all panicking as they feared the consequences of failure. Especially when they were given this kind of operation. One that had a slim chance of success. Being able to bring a guy back to life after their head has been shot¡­ That was a headache no pun intended.


    ¡°You guys being too loud. Can you at least do you job and prepare for the operation.¡± Everyone then heard the voice they wanted to hear. It assured them as the confidence filled the room even when Fausto seem to give some mean remarks. Then again this was usual for Fausto who never seems to say anything nice to them. But its because he is that way they never seem to be worried about his performance.


    ¡°Dr. Fausto you here!!¡± Looking at the man with the emotionless face they usually know. Wearing a surgeon''s gown and glasses everyone was elated to see him. Though his face didn¡¯t show reassurance, it was more his actions that speaks most of it. It was Dr. Fausto Weaving, the number one surgeon in Avalon and has a name that defines his skills called God¡¯s hand.


    ¡°Do we have a chance?¡± One doctor asked quietly, which Fausto completely ignored.


    ¡°How long has the person been dead for?¡± Fausto asked as he was already getting ready to perform the operation.


    ¡°Thirty minutes.¡± One of the assistants said. Fausto then touches the body. In an instant without even looking at the report, he somehow figured what to do.


    ¡°Good then start the operation. This will take some time. Do we have a copy of his brain?¡±


    ¡°Yes sir we have and we are recreating that right now.¡±


    ¡°Good.¡± Fausto said in a rather normal tone. He never seemed to be an emotional person. In fact despite his heroics he doesn''t seem to act like he is a hero. He in fact acts like a robot who just works at his job. Thankfully his work speaks for itself.


    ¡°Right!!!¡± Hearing those words everyone felt confident thinking they were the best in the business even though only one is doing most of the work. Still it does boost their resume.

 The diviners

    Meanwhile¡­..


    Back at the Capitol building there was a sense of awe every time you saw it. Designed like a medieval castle it felt like you were travelling to the past. Surrounded by a circle array with 12 floors separated by 12 staircases, it was at the heart of the city. From the centre of the building spreads a waterway to twelve directions going down all twelve floors that flows along each stair case. With the waterway going down to twelve different floors at each floor, flowers were in full bloom with the constant withering of beautiful flower petals from the top of the floor to the bottom. Reaching all the way down they fall to twelve fountains with statues in the middle of each fountain representing the knights of the round. Sir Bors, Gawain, Geraint, Bedivere, Lamorak, Agravain, Kay, Ector, Tristan, Galahad, Lancelot and finally Arthur. Each represents the twelve families of the order. The foundation of the Diviners.


    Despite showing the ancient history of its origin, this castle was the epicentre of power and technology. All people are free to roam around the area. Be warned as anyone who tries to enter the top floor near the castle must be authorised. For anyone who takes a step too close will be killed on the spot. This place is the sign that shows power and kindness for those who choose it.


    For the longest time, Diviners have been living in hiding. Keeping their powers hidden from the world to protect themselves even with so much power. With the ability to create and use the powers of light within their bodies, they were unlike many humans. Powers that could destroy anyone as though they were ants. Whether they create a blast of energy or a large shield, no modern weapon could stand up against them. In fact the Diviners can use the light energy to create weapons as well and be stronger. All the weapons the humans made, the diviners would always make it stronger. Along with the power to create they also have the power of protection making them invulnerable to almost any that the humans could use at their disposal. With such a power there was nothing the humans could do.


    However they had a weakness to them like all others that come with power. A price. For this incredible power there are its limits. Thus why it was only till recently did they ever reveal themselves to the world. With one fell swoop they were able to take over a mighty country and be its rulers. Diviners became not only the strongest beings, but possessed the strongest country. With resource rich lands and an ocean barrier protecting them from other forces, they were given everything they could ever want. Something that many other forces wish to acquire.


    Inside the grand castle was a blend of long halls, extravagant carpets, and banners of the twelve families. Mixed with the old style are the modern security all around the building that couldn¡¯t be seen by the naked eye. The moment you walk inside, you are already being tracked to make sure not even a bug can hide their movement. Throughout the building, you could feel that there were hidden secrets wherever you went. For Leonardo and Joseph they are entering one such room. Doing facial and light energy recognition they entered the room. Only those who have the gift of light may enter as the only ones who are allowed even in the castle are diviners. And though there was a lack of guards in this room. There was no need as there was no way anyone would be foolish enough to attack this place. The throne room.


    Arriving upon the room, there were the 12 robe men who were on their knees praying in a circle. With the one man at the far end being the only one looking in the center as he prays in front of a golden sword.


    ¡°I Joseph of Ector and Leonardo of Lancelot pay respects to Arthur and the eleven ministers.¡± Joseph, followed by Leonardo bowed on their knees while having their left hand covering their forehead while waiting for Arthur to respond. Arthur was the name all diviners called him while the name Apostle is used by non diviners. The name Arthur is the leader of the twelve, also the one who rules over the eleven other families. Being the leader, Arthur carries a lot of responsibilities, one of which to perform ceremonies like today. While the Avalonians were partying during ceremonies, the head diviners would hold a ritual and pray to the light. Something the head of the other eleven families would also do in hopes of continued success. Interfering with a ceremony was forbidden so Leonardo and Joseph said what they had to then wait till the time was right. They remained this way for 5 more hours as the time finally reached midnight. Knowing that the ceremony was over all of them stood up with their prayer being finished .


    ¡°Thank you everyone for coming today. You all may leave as we will continue with the country''s affairs later.¡± Standing in the middle, Arthur then commanded the eleven to give their farewell.


    ¡°May the light of thought be your sword and shield!!!¡±


    ¡°Let the light of heart be your guide and soul!!¡± Immediately the eleven leaders of each family left. One of them looked at Leonardo in concern but dared not say anything as there was time and place for everything. This left Arthur with Leonardo and Joseph who were still on their knees. He then gracefully let both of them up. ¡°Rise I would like for you all to tell me what happened?¡± There was no hint of dissatisfaction but one of being merciful from Arthur''s voice. Looking at him, he looked younger than Joseph, but just from his bright expression alone you could tell in terms of intelligence and wisdom, he far outstrips him.


    ¡°Yes today at five thirty, we had an assailant that was able to shoot General Lee from five miles away. Right now Dr. Fausto is performing the surgery to save his life. We had sent the other cleansers to capture the assailant. However¡­.¡± Leonardo said but he froze to stop his report as he didn¡¯t know if he should explain it. While travelling here they were alarmed when they found out Menace escaped. Not only that, he defeated a squad of Cleanser in the process. It was beyond what they expected. Especially for Joseph who trained all of them. Shamefully Joseph had to explain further..


    ¡°Most were defeated and unconscious at the time of the report.¡± Bowing, they lowered themselves as they were ashamed of embarrassing the order. This was Joseph''s recently made corps. And to have it be tarnished so soon was disgraceful.


    ¡°Forgive us for our failures. Especially on this momentous day. We have embarrassed the name of the light and should be punished for our crimes.¡± Expecting hard punishment they had sweaty palms while waiting for Arthur¡¯s decision.


    ¡°If you two die...then who will protect the city. Menace is still out there, so I need you two to help when he appears. He must be captured so we can show him the flaws of his betrayal to the order.¡± Thinking he was a rogue diviner, everyone wanted to find out who he was. As a diviner going against the order is a heavy sin they didn¡¯t appreciate. However despite the need to urgently take care of this issue¡­ Arthur wasn¡¯t seemingly concerned about him at all. In fact, he seemed to view it as a minor problem. Which was strange given how much it has caused in the public''s attention. In the same light he also showed that he trusted the two were strong enough to deal with this matter.


    ¡°Yes then we shall do our utmost to capture him for the order!!¡± Preparing to leave, Arthur then stopped the two as he seemed to have almost forgotten about it.


    ¡°Actually it has come to my attention that a few matters need to be addressed.¡±


    ¡°Sir¡­¡± Both were confused about something but then he activated something. Then at that time, the entire room was wrapped into a large bubble. The atmosphere turned tense as Arthur who was rather benevolent then turned more professional. As screens of several images appear with records and data showing all over the place. Despite his demeanour, he takes his job seriously, leaving no stone unturned.


    ¡°It has come to my attention that it seems as though many people of this country have been a little zealous. Wouldn''t you say?" Arthur questioned which then fell on Joseph who was in charge of the security of the city. Although Commander Lee leads the city defenses for the Avalonians, Joseph is one leading the city defense for Diviners. That is the role of the family of Ector as they protect the major cities that are controlled by the diviners.     ¡°Yes before the accident, General Lee was going to send forces to help quell the disturbance. However¡­.¡±


    ¡°That is what has me concerned. The fact that they would target him of all people. With him gone, it seems like we would have to rely on his vice commander.¡± Saying it both could hear Arthur''s dissatisfaction as it meant he had taken a closer look at the situation. Revealing the vice commander, a dark-tanned figure who had scars on his face. Too much actually as he had many scars. But that wasn¡¯t relevant.


    ¡°Is something the matter?¡± Joseph and Leonardo have seen the vice commander''s resume and have noticed that this man is no more than a loyal man. He has fought just recently in the war with the magical kingdom and before that went to fight the Neo-Roman empire. Fighting in the front lines, the vice commander helped secure the many victories resulting in him receiving many honours that showed his devotion to the Avalonians and Diviners alike. Devotion that Arthur doesn¡¯t care about.


    ¡°Despite his talents and endeavours, he is someone that I feel like is hiding too much. I question why Lee chose him as that kid is too suspicious. Now that he has his responsibility...I think it is time we send someone there.¡±


    ¡°Are you saying..?¡±


    ¡°Joseph you will be in charge of keeping an eye on him. This will be under the pretense of ensuring the safety of the city while the Commander recuperates.


    ¡°Upon your guidance, I will carry out the task.¡± Arthur then nodded in approval as he then recalled something that he felt he had to say. Though it was relevant to Joseph, Arthur just casually spoke it as if it was not serious.


    ¡°This will also be your last mission.¡± Which then surprised Joseph and Leonardo.


    ¡°Sir, have I lost your faith?¡± The last mission was actually a nice thing. That means a diviner has fulfilled their services and could retire in peace without the need to go back. With long lives like Diviners, such a blessing was nice to have as they could live a long life without worrying about money or time. And since they were in the higher class, they get to enjoy a life of luxury. However this wasn¡¯t something a man who lived and breathed a soldier''s life would enjoy. Especially for Joseph who had the greatest honour of protecting the capital city.


    ¡°No, actually I believe it''s time to pull you out from the front lines. It seems that you have a little over a hundred years left?¡±


    ¡°Yes sir but¡­¡±


    ¡°The order has seen your resolve and would like you to be just a trainer from now on. You are no longer needed on the field. As we the eleven ministers and I have decided that you shall retire to guide the new diviners for the order.¡± Making sure he was clear with his order as he knew Joseph would argue back, and give him a compromise. Though Joseph wanted to say something, had to stop as he didn¡¯t want to go against Arthur¡¯s word.


    ¡°Then I shall follow your guidance.¡± Joseph reluctantly bowed. Even Leonardo was dissatisfied with such a decision. Joseph still has much in the tank and to see the master who trained him for these years to be given nothing more than a demotion was dishonourable.


    ¡°Now then Leonardo I have a special task for you¡­.¡± This raised a question both Joseph and Leonardo had to ask. What was special?


    Ten minutes later¡­..


    Walking out of the room, Leonardo was very dissatisfied with the order. This was his master who had taught him for most of his life. Since childhood, Joseph has always taught him how to fight. He got to where he was because of him.


    ¡°Joseph let me ask my father. Maybe he can¡­¡± However Joseph stopped him.


    ¡°This a unanimous decision by all twelve of them. It is not strange for someone of my age to retire. I have fought for over three hundred and seventy years. There will be a time when I need to enjoy my life. At this point if I was to die in battle then who would teach the new diviners how to fight? How can I die knowing I could have taught many such as yourself.¡± Joseph reasoned as he was accepting his fate. Leonardo saw through that reason as he knew his master all too well.


    ¡°It must be the others who feel like you are a thorn in their side. You are the creator of the gunfighting we use for the security team for this city.  Not to mention you were the one who push us to the modern day in using guns and projectiles rather than swords. Arthur has¡­¡±


    ¡°Stop right now, we have a mission right now. I recall you have your orders as well. Now go and fulfill that order.¡± Stopping him as within the building, the walls literally have ears. Saying anything against Arthur means death.


    ¡°...As you wish¡­.¡± Leonardo forgetting he was still in the building stopped all talks to not get in any more trouble. Realizing he had his own mission, he looked at the file he was handed. It was a picture of a lady with long violet hair. She had a rather dark aura about her, but with her narrow face, small nose, beautiful thin lashes and eyes she was somewhat attractive. ¡°But why does she have to do with anything?¡±


    ¡°If I recall she used to be classmates with you back in the day when you went to Avalon High. I also recalled that you¡­.¡±


    ¡°Yes yes let''s forget about that. But why her? She has nothing to do with anything. No relations with any powerful individuals, no connection with any other country of sorts. Not only that, she has no relatives to note or for that matter.¡±


    ¡°Correct but there is one figure that she is connected to.¡± Joseph then opened the file. This then alarmed Leonardo who was understanding the severity. ¡°Yes, for some reason despite the money and prestige, he still lives with her. It is rather strange. Isn¡¯t it?¡±


    ¡°She is also going to the Avalon Hospital where God¡¯s hand is working.¡±


    ¡°So you are thinking that she is¡­¡±


    ¡°Might be targeting him.¡±


    ¡°But I know her, she never would do such a thing.¡±


    ¡°However, a mission is a mission. Besides, if I recall your sister is at the hospital as well. It would be a good time to spend time with your sister. You haven''t been bonding so much.¡± Joseph was saying as he was trying to help him out in this mission. It was also a true fact that ever since he worked as a cleanser he hasn¡¯t spent a lot of time with her sister.


    ¡°I guess¡­..¡± Though he didn¡¯t know how to deal with that at all as he himself has his situation that is quite special from the rest.


    ¡°We start our mission later this morning. Get some rest. You act as a guard for your sister when you are observing Karma. We will give reports and see if we can see any connections.¡±


    ¡°Okay but what about Menace? Shouldn¡¯t we get him?¡±


    ¡°Right now he is in hiding. While we do these missions, we will prioritize him when he has been spotted.¡± Dropping the subject both of them then left the building as they both went their separate ways. ¡°Remember that the order comes before any. ¡°May the light of thought be your sword and shield.¡±


    ¡°Let the light of heart be your guide and soul.¡± Saying their orders mantra they departed to their respective task.


    Back at the hospital, the operation was reaching its critical step. All the doctors and nurses were in awe of the situation as they were seeing the impossible. But it was no surprise as Fausto during the entire time was precise and accurate. Never making a single false move, he seems to know where everything is even without looking at the machines to help him. It was a spectacular sight as he was now in the final process of reviving Commander Lee.


    ¡°Connecting the brain to the spinal cord,¡± Fausto said as he was finishing the process. With the newest medical technology, he could reconnect the spinal cord with a repaired brain without damaging any nerves. Without saying anything he knew what the others would say.


    ¡°We have life!!!¡± Shouting out of the top of his lungs the operation was a resounding success. After a strenuous twelve hours, everyone could breathe a sigh of relief. Even those watching were amazed. All except Fausto who seemed to be rather exhausted. He then touched the man''s pulse but no one noticed something dark went into Fausto. No one noticed but ?it was seen by Karma who was also watching. She then rubbed her eyes as if she was seeing stuff only to think she must be tired for staying up all night.


    ¡°He''s just so amazing. I wish he would choose me.¡± Livia said as she was shaking Karma.


    ¡°Yeah me too¡­.¡± She wondered if she was imagining things because that was strange. Then someone interrupted them.


    ¡°Well, he''s going to choose me of course.¡± Which then got everyone to look at her. She was a stunning yet rather fragile woman with gold and light blue hair. She with her diamond facial features and bright facial features make her rather pretty. Not to mention with her name, everyone knows her. Leonora of Lancelot


    ¡°Leonora calm down. Remember that each doctor can choose two and we have like¡­.uhm a lot of people are here.¡± Karma then directed all the people who were also wanting to be picked as well. There was a competitive spirit as everyone immediately felt offended by her words. They all want to be Fausto¡¯s students. But that didn¡¯t seem to bother her at all.


    ¡°Don¡¯t worry with my straight As and also expertise in this field, I for sure will make it.¡±


    ¡°Uhm yeah but don¡¯t forget that us two had just the same grades as you.¡± Livia said.


    ¡°Yeah I know but I guarantee that I will get it.¡± Leonora said confidently. However, as she looked to find Fausto, he had already disappeared. ¡°Hey where did he go??¡± The three then looked as well, but he wasn¡¯t there. But then a doctor came to answer the question.


    ¡°Doctor Fausto is returning home for now. After all, it took a lot out of him.¡± They then realise the reason but then the question remains¡­..


    ¡°But how do we know who we are going to work under?¡±


    ¡°Don¡¯t worry it will happen later today. Right now you ladies should rest. Today we showed you the possibilities you can reach if you work hard. So look forward to later today as we hope this will help inspire you to be better.¡±


    ¡°Yes ma¡¯am!!¡± They then bowed before leaving the room. But Karma then looks to see the picture of Doctor Fausto. Especially on the side of his face. ¡°Where have I seen him before?¡± She tried to recall but nothing came about. Leaving her to wonder before she went home.

 One body two minds

    Returning back to his rather dark condo, Fausto who was just in the hospital appeared right in his condo within seconds. Unlike his stoic self in the hospital, he was in deep pain as was already lying on the ground panting. Grabbing a vial out of his pocket, he consumed whatever was in it, that instantly cured his body of the pain. No one noticed but once he got home cracks were forming around the face. Thankfully with the vial the problems resolved rather quickly.


    ¡°Hahh¡­ha¡­I told you not to overextend yourself, Faust!!¡± He screamed but there was no one there. However, as he looked at the mirror he then saw himself, the only difference was the purple eyes which showed a bit more emotion. He was more playful and carefree as he had a smirk that irritated Fausto. Though they have the same last name they like to identify themselves through the first name. Faust and Fausto. While Fausto is with his light golden eyes and blue pupils. Faust is purple with white pupils. They were the same body but their minds were far different. Both had a nice narrower facial feature that still made both good looking. In a way they had a rather neutral face that doesn¡¯t make him too handsome or that plain. Its based on his expression that really defines the face. Mostly the feature that made the difference was the eyes along with their personalities.


    ¡°Well I seem to have arrived into some trouble. So I spent more than I wanted it to be.¡± Faust brushed it aside as he shrugged in the mirror. Nonchalant as always, it seems like this was the usual ordeal where Faust has to hear complaints from Fausto. Both never knew why but they had two consciousnesses. Not only can they talk to each other, they are able to see what the other is doing when the other is taking control of the body. However that is the only thing they could share as when Faust is active he has powers of Diviners during the day. Fausto was the one with the shadows during the night.


    ¡°Don''t lie to me, you know you could have escaped perfectly. But you purposely fought.¡± Frustrated he used the shadows to take his clothes off as he headed to the shower. Knowing that Faust was also scheming up something, taking a shower was the best way to wash away his constant headaches. They may be two peas in a pod but they by no means get along. Having this quarrel was a usual occurrence.


    ¡°Hmm¡­.but you forget. I was paid to keep the city''s attention on me. Right now rather than focusing on other sectors, they are now focusing their attention on killing us. One who has proven to be a threat to their order.¡± Faust said as he was revealing his job. Faust was the Assassin who roamed across the country of Avalon. Using his Divine powers, he made himself infamous by killing many Avalonians and other important figures in the process. Despite their best efforts, no one has been able to catch Faust. The only thing that he has ever revealed is his mask. Though it was un inattention, the name Menace got branded on him when an Avalonian General called him a Menace to society. Because of that, Faust was stuck with a name he didn¡¯t like even when he had a cook mask with blades on them.


    ¡°But what if my cover is blown? You should know I¡¯m high profile. If they find anything suspicious, we could be in trouble.¡± During that last confrontation if the sun had not set, Faust would have been in serious trouble. With that anti-light thing, it would have revealed his identity. Plus with men surrounding him, there was no way he would have made it. Thankfully Faust had a backup as he planned the timing to allow that. It was off by a minute, but the result was still the same despite the risk.


    ¡°Like they would know that the great God¡¯s hand is also the one that tried to kill him.¡± Despite stating an important fact, Fausto doesn¡¯t seem to care about his pedigree as he knows that diviners don¡¯t seem to care about that. It seems similar to their personalities; they have different occupations. Fausto had a reputation to be very experienced on the operating table. Many of his surgeries are of high risk, but he is able to perform all risky operations with ease while also with the highest success rate. Because rarely nowadays has there ever been anybody who had died on his table, he got the name God¡¯s name.


    ¡°Unfortunately for you though despite the attempt. You lost this time.¡± Fausto said that despite his success he wasn¡¯t happy about winning. He then was surrounded by shadows as his clothes were taken off as he headed to the showers. Both were successful and had careers thanks to each other. Because most of the battles of saving and killing were against each other. Despite many of their own separate missions, the greatest achievements were victims they both shared ironically. This also was the very reason why both are in the capital city of Camelot.


    ¡°Yes 90 kills successful to 90 saved. Making you and me rather successful.¡± Faust congratulated who then soon wanted to point to something else. ¡°Anyways I have something to mention. During the run, I believe someone saw my face.¡± This then alarmed Fausto as he didn¡¯t realize that during the time Faust was caught. He immediately stopped taking a shower as he walked out and the shadow instantly changed his clothes. It worried Fausto as he didn¡¯t like the sound of that.


    ¡°And who might that be?¡± Faust mentally directed him to the papers of all the residents who were going to the hospital.


    ¡°Her name is Karma. Looking at her, she is talented and very adept at performing surgeries. Thoracic, Neurological, orthopedic and even plastic surgery. She is the perfect student for you.¡± Fausto then looked at her. She seemed to have no relatives at all. Thankfully because of her intelligence she was able to live in Avalon even before she was in high school. This was rare because rarely Teenagers are able to enter an Avalonian city. Especially Camelot the capitol of Avalon. She must have shown rare talent to be able to be an Avalonian citizen at a young age. However no matter the talent...it wasn''t something that Fausto cared about.


    ¡°I thought I told you that I¡¯m not interested in having students. If I have students then our cover would be blown.¡± Looking at Karma, he noticed that there was a strange purple birthmark next to her left eye. It looked like an upside down star. What was strange was her background as her family are hidden. Also it seems she got in here from sponsorship. This made her life mysterious. But even with he still didn¡¯t care. Fausto likes to be alone and prefers his life to be by himself. With how his body works and what Faust does, he really does wish his life would be quiet. Faust though wasn¡¯t a loner and preferred to be a bit more social. In fact, he loves his exciting life rather well.


    ¡°But she may have already found out. Like I said she saw my face. It''s only a matter of time. In fact I think having two students will actually benefit us as it would secure our identity more than before.¡± Wanting to make things more interesting, it was better to have more so Faust thinking two was a good number added another student to go along with Karma.


    ¡°Two¡­..Great¡­¡± Getting annoyed with Faust''s plans, it continued to make things more troublesome. Wanting to refute, he was trying to find a way to avoid this problem. But just as he said that the sun rose as Fausto was no longer present. Instead his eyes then turned as his smile was shown through the mirror. Looking at his clothes he was rather unimpressed.


    ¡°Ugh...always old fashion with your suits.¡± Going to the closet he changed his clothes. ¡°Anyways let''s go and pick mine, I mean your students.¡± Chuckling it left Fausto regretting the fact he was in a two-soul body. Heading out of the room refresh, Faust continued his plan. Though he knew Fausto would never agree, he will have to go along with it either way. After all he didn¡¯t say no. And that was good enough for Faust.


    Suburbs of Camelot


    Avalonian cities have three different areas zoned by walls. The outer zones are given apartments and smaller houses. As you go further into the center, the houses gets bigger as the income and importance of the job gets higher. Center of the city was the most important where the twelve noble families live along with the most valuable Avalonians. That will be more talked about later as it will be for now centered around the outer layer.


    In a quiet street, as dawn arose, there was others who were running for their daily jog. But in a flash, they saw something run past them in a blink of an eye. Many of them tripped and fell as they heard a strange female voice.


    ¡°Excuse me!!!! Sorry!!!¡± This was the daily occurrence across the street as there was a secret rumor calling it the running ghost. But really after stopping in front of the door, it was surprising to see who it was that was running. ¡°Woah, that was faster than I thought it would be...ha...ha¡­¡± Karma then walked inside her apartment to see a person with breakfast and drink in hand. This short green haired tan man was wearing a military uniform but it was awkward that he was wearing an apron on top. The apron really does look tight on him with his massive physique. Especially when it looks so wrong with a guy with all the scars on his face. This was Gilius Davenport a veteran second in command of the city defenses.


    ¡°Karma, you are home earlier than expected. I was going to pick you up.¡± Sharing the same roof, the two had been roommates for quite a few years. This is also despite Gilius being famous being able to get promoted to general.     ¡°Hey Gilius, sorry but I felt like I¡¯d get some exercise before I sleep.¡±


    ¡°You are not going to eat with me. It is very rare that I get to spend time with you.¡±


    ¡°Please. You work in the day. I work at night. Like we spend time together.¡± Saying sarcastically.


    ¡°And yet we lived with each other for 5 years. How amazing that I get to live with a vampire.¡±


    ¡°Blagh..¡± Karma tried to act like a vampire. Which then amused the both of them. Gilius then got rid of the apron and was now heading to work. Which then surprised Karma.


    ¡°You are going to work so early? You usually work a lot later than usual.¡±


    ¡°Unfortunately with my boss out of commission. It seems like my work just doubled.¡±


    ¡°Oh the patient that Dr. Fausto brought to life.¡± Karma realized as she forgot that the patient was high profile.


    ¡°Yes, thankfully he was alive. I couldn¡¯t imagine him dying. But since he is in the hospital then I have to do his work. I¡¯m going to be busy from now on. So make sure you take care of yourself.¡±


    ¡°You''re talking to me? I¡¯m the one that can always outrun you since the first day we met. Maybe I should be joining the military.¡± Karma proudly said. But¡­


    ¡°Nooo!!¡± Shocking Karma, Gilius then calms down. ¡°Sorry, it''s just that I don¡¯t want you to deal with what we are experiencing.¡± He then handed the tablet that talked about the protest and riots outside the city. It said all should be equal and the military lost their respect. Seeing that Karma was rather sad.


    ¡°Must be hard on you.¡±


    ¡°Not really. Thankfully I have a spooky Vampireeee to keep me company.¡± Saying it in a rather spooky way, Karma threw a pillow at him.


    ¡°Shut up. I¡¯m taking a shower and going to sleep. Have fun at work!!¡±


    ¡°Night or morning,¡± Gilius said as both went to their respective doors. However, once the door closed, Gilius had already turned serious. In front of the door, he was soon accompanied by a rather interesting person. Looking at the mask, Gilius was not at all afraid. Rather he then touched his phone as he activated something. The surrounding cameras that were looking at him were soon being inputted with footage as though he was leaving the premises. From the other side of the lens, it was a different matter as both were walking upstairs. Reaching the roof they then knock on a door. Tap tap tap tap was the amount as the door then opened instantly. Quickly getting inside there was a bunch of men with guns that were pointing at the two. Lowering the guns they welcome the two. All except for one guy who was disappointed.


    ¡°I recalled we ordered you to kill him. The fact that he is still alive is not the result we want.¡± One of them said. Everyone was agreeing, except for Menace who didn¡¯t seem to care.


    ¡°I did indeed kill him. However, I recalled a recent news article that seemed to answer your question.¡± Recalling the daily news as it was pretty well reported that the general was alive after a shot through the head. Menace didn''t want to have to report something that was already done.


    ¡°Then blow him up next time!!!! We hired you because you are the only assassin that could fight against those monsters. But how can we rely on you when you can¡¯t complete the mission!!!¡± He screamed. In retaliation, Menace in an instant created a lightsword that was pointing directly at the soldier¡¯s mouth. Immediately the soldiers cowered in fear as his words was stronger than him.


    ¡°Please shut up.¡± Replying in kind, Menace getting rather irritated as he wonders how he hasn¡¯t died yet being this loud. ¡°It''s too early to be yelling. You aren¡¯t even the leader of this operation. And you have the audacity to call me out¡­.. Remember the only reason as to why I haven¡¯t killed you yet¡­. Is because your precious boss paid me to not kill you ....¡± Menace then got rid of his sword as he no longer wanted to deal with him. Grabbing everyone''s attention, Gilius felt they were straying from their mission.


    ¡°Listen, we are in the midst of a huge operation. Remember for freedom, we all have sacrificed much. So there is no time to fight among ourselves. Especially when Menace is our only way of facing the diviners.¡± Since the founding of the Avalon, the remaining forces from the previous regime gathered what they had and created a force to one day regain their lost land. Thus they call themselves Liberties.


    ¡°Yes and he also accomplished the mission nevertheless. Gilius is now command of the city defenses. Right now this is the perfect time to put our plan into motion.¡± Another said which everyone nodded in agreement.


    ¡°Unfortunately I just got word that Joseph of Ector will be accompanying me.¡± Hearing the name, many got nervous as that was the name that brought fear to the hearts of many who fought him. Some of the soldiers who fought him couldn¡¯t help but run at the mere sight of him, except for Menace who didn¡¯t seem to find it all that dreadful. In fact he was playing a game on his screen.  Many wonder does he take this mission seriously. However, he was just a mercenary so he really didn''t have a say in what is to happen next. Thus the other person who didn''t seem all that concerned as well as he didn''t find Joseph that threatening at all either.


    ¡°So what is the plan?¡± One of the soldiers asked, which then Gilius smiled as everyone could tell that he already knew.


    ¡°Right now I will continue to do my job. But in a few days, we will be sent out to quell the riots and protest. This will be the perfect time where Joseph will be alone without help from others.¡± Hearing that everyone then looked at Menace who was still playing the game.


    ¡°Oh let me guess the plan. You guys do nothing. I kill him. Simple as that.¡± Pretending to be surprised, he seems to feel like he''s doing all the work as he mocks everyone in the room. Yet still they couldn¡¯t argue back as he was stating the truth. Yet that was far from the truth as Gilius added a caveat to the plan.


    ¡°No..¡±


    ¡°But he is a threat?¡± This surprised everyone including Menace to Gilius'' thought process.


    ¡°If he dies they will send more people to watch me. I want you to fight him to the point of exhaustion. Then I will be with my troops to rescue him.¡±


    ¡°And what does that do?¡± Even Menace was interested as he wanted to see how far he planned.


    ¡°We have to gain their trust. That way we can maneuver more freely. Those who are near death are always fond of those who save them.¡± Hearing that everyone was finally understanding what Gilius was forming up. If Menace killed Joseph, he would be replaced immediately. But if he was alive and Gilius save him. This would finally put Gilius in good standing with the Diviners where they had no choice but to have him be in charge without other diviners observing him. Thus giving him the freedom he needs.


    ¡°But can you take him on, is the question Menace?¡± One person tested Menace to incite him. As much as the plan was good, it still required someone to be able to fight Joseph. Even Gilius couldn''t fight him at all. With only Menace to fight him, it puts a lot more stress on Menace. Because if it doesn''t, things could vastly restrict Gilius after and might make him even more suspicious. So everyone wanted to hear something from Menace to give some insurance. Waiting for a bit, Menace finished what he was doing before finally being willing to say something.


    ¡°Seems like I will need more compensation for this task. I hope you guys have deep pockets.¡± Which was soon dispelled as he didn¡¯t seem all too worried about his part of the plan. Just to return the favour, he asks for more money for his small joke.


    ¡°You!!!¡± The same soldier wanted to say more, till someone interrupted showing a box to Menace.


    ¡°This is a 6-carat red diamond of the best quality. We will give you another one later.¡± Menace was rather speechless as he couldn¡¯t believe it. Looking at it he¡­he¡­.he¡­sighed..


    ¡°¡­.You guys need to think of something that can give me more benefits than looking good. But I suppose I can sell it in the market.¡± Menace then simply left the door as he played with the gem like a toy. Knowing the meeting was done he didn''t care for the rest as his job was known. No time to waste with others. He really hated these meetings.


    ¡°Hey you don¡¯t even know the location¡­.¡± Gilius was trying to inform Menace, only to go on deaf ears as the door shut. Leaving everyone rather speechless about him.


    ¡°To think that is Menace.¡± Someone said, ¡°He really does what he wants.¡±


    ¡°Careful now. Its Assassin. He hates that nickname given to him.¡±


    ¡°Indeed but he is the only one that fits the bill. The only one that the Diviners can¡¯t face.¡± Gilius pointed out. Looking at his record showing his kills was hard to dispute. ¡°At least he dresses nicely.¡± Making the comment everyone looked at Gilius with that strange remark.

 A casual day at the job

    In the Land of Lancelots.


    In a large dome, Leonardo was holding two odd looking pistols as he was also holding a pair of glasses. Waiting for a moment there was a voice that started to light up the room.


    ¡°Initiating holographic field. Terrain¡­.abandoned city.¡± Then the space was looking like an actual abandoned city. ¡°Commencing creation of enemies. Combat will start in 3..2..1.¡± In that moment almost all holographic soldiers were appearing everywhere with guns aimed right at him. Leonardo immediately reacted as he instantly fired his guns at two who popped their heads out first. With real life reaction, it showed that he shot both of them directly at the head. But then three appeared, Leonardo with his quick reflexes was able to maneuver his body to shoot at two before then pointing both guns at the last one. This continued for about a few minutes as he was practising his shooting so that he was able to maneuver and shoot with the least amount of movement. No matter long distance or short he was able to fire with extreme precision. However as he was approaching his last target in front of him, he then recalled Menace as he hesitated to fire. Bang he got hit. Like game over, everything shutted down as it showed his score in front of him.


    ¡°That isn¡¯t like you to miss the last one? Are you out of practice?¡± Entering the room, a man with a sword was casually trying to start a conversation with him. Getting rid of his glasses, Leonardo didn¡¯t even bother talking to him as he walked away the moment he heard the voice. Looking at him it was like looking at his splitting image with but with gold blue hair. Yet he was much older with more facial hair along with mature features. The leader of the Lancelot family, Leo.


    ¡°Walking away from your father? What did I do?¡± Even when they are blood-related, it would seem as though the relationship has soured even when the father never seemed to have done anything to damage it.


    ¡°Say that to Joseph who has worked so hard for the order. And yet you treat him like trash that has lost his purpose.¡± Wanting to make Leo feel ashamed, it didn¡¯t faze Leo as he knew this was politics.


    ¡°What else are we supposed to do? This is the tradition from our order for four thousand years. Isn¡¯t it better for him to spend his last hundred years in retirement?¡±

    ¡°Just tell me what you came here before I leave,¡± Leonardo said as he was already in no mood to say anything. Leo then handed him a file.


    ¡°¡­.While on the mission we would like you to convince Dr. Fausto to become a full member of our order.¡± Hearing that Leonardo looked back rather surprised. This was something that he had not heard of in a while. To be a full member is to be given a status as a Diviner. This was rare beyond rare. So to give such status meant that Arthur viewed Fausto that highly. However, he didn¡¯t doubt it as he figure that Arthur wanted Leo to tell Leonardo more details about this mission.


    ¡°Is he that hard to persuade? You could just force him? Wasn¡¯t that the reason the hospital pay him a huge sum of money?¡±


    ¡°No, doing that would cause an uproar. Many people around the world have been saved by him. If we do anything to him, we could face some serious retribution. That was why we paid him.¡±


    ¡°Then why me?¡±


    ¡°Because you can help connect him to Leonora.¡± Hearing that Leonardo was furious as he grabbed his father''s collar.


    ¡°You would dare use your daughter in such a way!!!¡± But Leo didn¡¯t flinch as he felt like it was his duty.

Looking at his eyes, it seems he was dead serious to say those words. ¡°Think about it, not only her but your mother. Might be able able to give back the life that we wanted. With his help, he can help solve the problem that our order strive to accomplish¡­. ¡± Hearing that Leonardo realized the importance of the mission. It wasn¡¯t just Karma to watch after, they needed to acquire Dr. Fausto for their future. The key to their future. Leonora, though maybe a sacrifice but it wasn¡¯t a bad thing as she benefits greatly from it. Not to mention they just need Leonora to be chosen as his student. If that works, it would slowly build relations with Dr. Fausto. So it was a win-win situation.


    ¡°Fine, I''ll go.¡± As he then left the dome knowing that there was no point in talking any further.


    ¡°Where are you going?¡± Saying as a concerned father, he wondered if he was going to start the mission immediately. Humorously the answer was¡­.

    In the year, 2150 most of the Avalonian experienced a rather high-tech lifestyle with everything that a person could need. In a rather old renaissance European artistic style city, it was match with advanced tech that goes on to make the city more stunning. Universal transportation as you could take the subway and travel almost anywhere in the city. With technology advancement, security and privacy are equal as well making sure no one is able to hack or steal anything you want to keep private. Unless it''s the government of course. With holograms and high speed internet, there is so much access to information that it''s hard to keep up. Everything in the palm of your hand, there isn¡¯t a job that anyone couldn¡¯t achieve within the city. With the backing of the Government, everyone who has a dream can achieve it. Thus many people call the country of Avalon, the kingdom of dreams. As some of the brightest and most brilliant minds in their respective profession are groomed here. Adding to the fact that all cities have zero crime rates and 100 literacy rate, everyone within the city could go about their day without worry. The most exciting part, the pay is really good.     Walking around the city, many videos were being shown as it was showing the mask of Menace. There was a large wanted sign that was asking for any information. On the other side, there was the news of Fausto being famous again for another miracle operation. It is what you would call being infamous and famous at the same time. Faust chuckled on the wanted sign as he was amused by how stupid they were. They obviously know that it was a disguise. So what? It doesn¡¯t mean he would wear it. Besides, all he had to do was take off his mask and voila, no one knows. Still, he cant with all his effort get rid of his name Menace. He had advertised his name as  the Divine assassin and still people call him Menace. He then approached a police officer who was walking by.


    ¡°Dr. Fausto, what brings you here?¡± Casually talk to Faust while not aware that this man was the one they want to capture. He smiled as he was enjoying the interaction.


    ¡°I¡¯m just here to walk around. Is there a problem?¡±


    ¡°No no we were just looking around for Menace. If you see him please inform us.¡±


    ¡°Well what if it was me??¡± Faust said as he was curious. But the policemen then brushed it off.


    ¡°No, that is impossible. You save the commander. And you can¡¯t possibly be in two places at once.¡±


    ¡°Don¡¯t say things like that. It''s bad to accuse yourself.¡± Even when Faust was saying it so seriously, the police already brushed it off like a bad joke.


    ¡°Just saying. Anyways, you officers, have a nice day.¡± Faust then handed the two gold bars. ¡°Share this among your comrades. This is my appreciation for letting me go.¡±


    ¡°Yes thank you¡­¡± The police were rather confused. But ignored it as they were amazed to see a gold bar. They then showed it to the others as Faust just happily walked by.


    ¡°Oh what a way to be inconspicuous. You just revealed to the police who you are.¡± Fausto said in the head. But Faust didn¡¯t seem all that concerned as he ignored Fausto¡¯s comments. After all, he has other things to worry about. Heading to the hospital, there were two new girls that he had to get. Thinking about it again he realised he was thinking like a player. Well it wasn¡¯t like he was trying to get them because they were pretty. Right now he thought that having those two close would keep the Diviners off of him as a suspect so that he would have good alibis. Just having pretty women was a positive but nothing he cared about. Not just yet anyway as the two girls were beyond just their looks. Both Fausto eventually found out very fast.


    In a separate area of the city¡­.


    Arriving at the military base at the wall, Gilius walked out just to see a six-story wall that surrounded the city. Stationed with soldiers and massive guns on top, there was nothing that was getting through. Even if there were tanks and helicopters that were close by, the city was built for attacks in the air and ground. This was to protect Camelot from invasion and its own people. Avaloninans may be diviner¡¯s subjects but like any ruler, they must always keep them at arm''s length. Hence the inner wall was to protect themselves from attacks from revolts. Well like it would happen but it¡¯s always good to keep a good policy.


    Watching the soldiers patrol the area, Gilius was doing his daily rounds to see if anything was out of the ordinary. Afterward, Gilius then walked to the top of the wall to see tens of thousands protesting and complaining. There were signs that said freedom, fair treatment, and saying to get rid of monsters. But worse. there were signs against the military saying that they were traitors to its people as they sold themselves. Saddened he couldn¡¯t believe his eyes as he didn¡¯t think people would say such words to fellow citizens when some could be relatives and friends. Though yes forty percent of the people get to live in these glamorous cities with everything provided. The rest get adequate cities that are considered livable even compared to other countries. However, the problem was these people wanted more which was built on one thing. Envy.


    ¡°When people are blinded by greed and selfishness.¡± A voice said as Gilius turned to see Joseph, a man who was well-known in the military. Before, Joseph was on the front lines as he had fought against several countries that were attacking Avalon when it first formed. Many however didn¡¯t expect the unknown force to take it like that. So in retaliation, it was Joseph who was the first to fight them. This made Joseph not just a famous figurehead for many Avalonians but also became the star for future Diviners who saw the potential of the gun in the Diviner¡¯s arsenal that he became well known for.


    ¡°Hello sir Joseph, excuse me for not greeting you properly.¡± Wanting to give a formal greeting Joseph stopped him as he didn¡¯t seem to care about him.


    ¡°Stop it with the theatrics you are in charge of protecting the city. Not to please me.¡±


    ¡°As you wish.¡± Gilius then showed a 3d dimension of the city along with all the personnel that were stationed along the wall. ¡°As requested by the commander, we have increased the personnel and weapons to defend our walls. We also gather the necessary forces to get rid of the disorder.¡± Seeing it, Joseph was nodding as he accepted Gilius'' proposal.


    ¡°Very good. And when will the operation start?"


    ¡°In a few days as scheduled.¡±


    ¡°Good. Then you are carrying your job as a commander would.¡± Giving a rare compliment Gilius didn¡¯t ease up as he knew these were just plain words that had no meaning to it.


    ¡°I am pleased to have fulfilled my task. Is there anything else that needs to be done?¡±


    ¡°Yes, I have recently heard reports that many supplies have been attacked by a bunch of thieves. I would like to know why our forces have not been able to get rid of such problems.¡± Joseph said as he opened the report to Gilius. But Gilius remained calm as he then gave his reasoning.


    ¡°Our job is to protect the city from those who want to inflict harm. Supplies are left with Commander Dan. Even if I were to do something, it would have to be approved by the ministers to transfer the forces.¡± Without a single hesitation, he gave his reason without stuttering. Showing that he was not going beyond his boundaries. Trying to find a single fault in Gilius was like finding a needle in a haystack.


    ¡°¡­.. So you are smart as they say. And you are correct. I see that you are competent with your work.¡± Testing him, Joseph was understanding of why Gilius was chosen. Still, the fact that he did his job perfectly didn¡¯t sit right with him.


    ¡°Thank you, sir. I¡¯m glad I¡¯m viewed as such. Is there anything else?¡±


    ¡°Yes, I would like to go with you on your little trip in a few days. Will that be a problem?¡±


    ¡°No, having you will make things go more smoothly. But should you waste more time with this? I believe you have much better importance for the order than dealing with these protestors.¡± But then Joseph gave a rather deadly stare which made Gilius kneel in fear. ¡°Pl¡­Please..forgive¡­me!! I don¡¯t mean to offend you or tell you what to do!!¡±


    ¡°¡­.The commander was very high on you. I look forward to seeing your performance in person. Take this as a test to see if you can get a full-time promotion.¡± Joseph then walked away as he then looked at his holographic screen. ¡°Reporting nothing out of the ordinary, everything has been done as shown. Now let''s see if he will exterminate those scavengers.¡± While he was saying that, Gilius at the same time was smiling when he looked the other way as he seemed to have overheard him.


    ¡°Oh don¡¯t worry about me. You probably should be worrying about yourself.¡±

 Day in Faustos job

    At another part of the city, reaching the hospital, was a huge uproar as there was a commotion and news about the commander being revived. The media was now full-blown as they wanted to hear or find out how it was possible to bring someone to life. The hospital soon got the attention of the whole nation. Walking inside the hospital, Faust walks in the back to avoid all the attention. He didn¡¯t like the media when involving Fausto because they keep bragging about Fausto is the better half. Plus endless questions that he really could care less about. No this cup of tea.


    ¡°Excuse me this is for authorized personnel.¡± Someone said, but then upon turning around they automatically knew their mistake.


    ¡°So this is how the hospital treats me? I saved a life and got fired. Seems like I need to find a new place to work?¡±


    ¡°No no sorry please forgive me!! I didn¡¯t know you would come so early. Usually, you would come at night.¡±


    ¡°Yes yes but I have something I need to do.¡±


    ¡°That is??¡±


    ¡°Unfortunately you''re not the one I need to talk to.¡± Faust then walked past the security guard as he went on to go to the top floor to meet the chief of medicine. Being rather rude he was acting like Fausto as everyone knows he is rather cold and unsocial. Reaching the room there were so many gift baskets, the entire place was full with just one person basking in the rewards.


    ¡°Sorry I¡¯m a little busy right now, can you please come back later?¡±


    ¡°Then it seems like I should move hospitals,¡± Faust said, in a flash, someone popped out from the sea of presents. It was Dr. Laurie showing herself while holding more than one gift. Within an hour she was receiving gifts like candy on Halloween night. And it wasn¡¯t just cheap gifts, these were some high-end gifts. But it was strange given how masculine she was along with her long blonde hair and pretty facials.


    ¡°Dr. Fausto, it''s so good that you came so early this morning. Do you want some of these gifts?¡± Giving a rather sad face as she wanted it all for herself but needed to give it to the true hero. Fortunately, those gifts were things Faust wasn¡¯t really impressed with as he thought they were just useless accessories. Though he has high brands of clothes himself, he chose them because if he didn¡¯t Fausto would buy cheap clothes instead. At least it doesn''t make Faust look bad.


    ¡°I thought you were busy?¡±


    ¡°Nonsense!! For you, nothing matters.¡± Laurie was the head of the surgical department. But even being the head, she was inferior to Fausto in terms of skill. Though one is considered the head of the department, Laurie viewed Fausto as the head. Especially with the hospital getting so much recognition from Fausto. It was important that Fausto''s needs, go first before everyone else''s.


    ¡°Then Mrs. Laurie, would you give me these two students?¡± Showing the papers, Laurie was shocked.


    ¡°Are you saying you are willing to teach these two?¡± Even she knew how close-knit he was. Dr. Laurie never was going to give Fausto any students because of how he refused to accept any. So it was a surprise for him to ask personally. Faust nodded but in his head was a complete denial.


    ¡°Don¡¯t you dare!!! I told you I would not do that. Don¡¯t get me involved!!!¡± Fausto openly refused. But it went on empty ears as no one could hear his objection. Faust simply ignores it while talking. As he started to get closer he touched Laurie¡¯s face. Though she was not his type but seeing him make a move on her she couldn¡¯t help but feel excited.


    ¡°So are we finished?¡± Getting closer, Laurie thinks she might get another reward but¡­


    ¡°..Ye..yesss.please take me¡­¡± She said as she was ready for what is to come. But nothing happened as she slowly opened her eyes.


    ¡°Then we are finished.¡± Faust quickly left the room emotionless with Laurie''s rather disappointed look.


    ¡°I hate when he does that.¡± Though depressed she then looked at her gifts. ¡°Oh, this is an expensive bag. Oh and this is a nice purse. So nice!!!¡± Bathing in her gifts, she just went back to enjoying the rewards that she should have given to Fausto.

    Walking to the commander¡¯s room, Faust then went on to see the unconscious Lee. As the doctor who performed the surgery, he had every right to enter. Even the soldiers that were guarding the door let Faust through not knowing who he really was. Examining the body, Faust was tempted to finish the deal.


    ¡°Don¡¯t!! You will blow our cover!!¡± Fausto said in his head as Faust then retracted his powers.


    ¡°Relax, I already finished my job. I just want to make sure how long it would take for him to gain consciousness?¡± Though Fausto was the main doctor, Faust had enough experience that he was able to be a proficient doctor as well. This allowed him insight in the medical section as well.


    ¡°Right now it should take a few months. The human body is extraordinary but even with that it would take a few months to recover.¡± Fausto already knew the state as he already found out before he left.


    ¡°Perfect, it will give them enough time to complete their operation.¡± Hearing that Fausto was concerned as this was news for him. This was the first time he was taking sides.


    ¡°Why do you want to help them?¡±


    ¡°It''s not why, but what?¡±


    ¡°What do you mean?¡±


    ¡°Twenty years ago. The former Arthur used his life to destroy millions of soldiers in the blink of an eye during the Second Great Civil War. There should be no way that whatever Gilius and them are planning would be able to tear down this regime. Arthur and even the minister would be able to wipe them out.¡± Faust pointed out as he was trying to piece everything together.


    ¡°So you mean?¡±


    ¡°This attack is a distraction for them to hide their true objective.¡± Faust said as he was finding this more interesting.


    ¡°And what is it?¡±


    ¡°We will have to find out,¡± Faust said as he didn¡¯t know. It was more just a gut feeling than anything. ¡°Let''s worry about that later as we need to observe this thing called gun fighting. I¡¯m quite curious how I will fair against it.¡± Realizing he had a scheduled fight, he decided it was best to start training. Faust quickly got into a car as he headed out somewhere into remote part of a city as he forgot he just stole a car. Fortunately it was a gift that Dr. Laurie was given. Seems like Fausto did get a piece of the reward after all.


    Few hours later¡­.


    As the sunset approached, Leonora had just woken up as she was getting ready to go to the hospital. But as she headed out the door, she was greeted by Leonardo. Looking at him, she simply looked away as she went to her car. But it was rather strange as she noticed that he was getting inside her car too.


    ¡°What are you doing?¡±


    ¡°I¡¯m going with you to the hospital.¡±


    ¡°Go yourself. I have work.¡±


    ¡°My work is at the hospital.¡±


    ¡°Oh great, well get your ride.¡±


    ¡°It''s you.¡± Hearing that Leonora was questioning the order. ¡°I thought I was deemed no longer necessary to be a part of the order?¡±


    ¡°Yes but it turns out it has to do with the connection you are going to have.¡±


    ¡°Have? I have nothing that the order wants. My condition was why I was able to be away from the order.¡± All diviners who are of eligible age have to serve the order in any given capacity. Rather than be for fighting, mostly being fighting or for other purposes, they have to contribute to the order. Leonora is actually the sole exception as she was given the freedom to do what she pleases as long as it wouldn¡¯t tarnish their good name. Of course just because she was an exception doesn¡¯t mean she isn¡¯t a Diviner.


    ¡°But because of your connection to someone, the order wants you to be of service.¡± Leonardo then gave an image that Leonora knew instantly who that someone was.


    ¡°You want me to keep an eye on him and steal his research. I won¡¯t do it. I have too much respect for him to do such a thing.¡± When studying to be a surgeon, one of her idols was Dr. Fausto. Being so young and talented, everyone who was in the medical field wanted to be like Fausto. This also included Leonora, as she wanted to be young and successful as well. So to go spy on Dr. Fausto would be dishonoring and disrespecting her idol.


    ¡°But the order¡­.¡±


    ¡°The order has nothing to do with me. Arthur has even granted me autonomy. As long as I don¡¯t interfere, so get!!¡± Leonora argued as she was trying to get rid of him. However, Leonardo refused as he remained in his seat.


    ¡°I¡¯m going with you and that is final.¡± Leonora was getting frustrated, but she was late for work so had no time for this. Also despite her disrespect to the order she really couldn¡¯t go against the order. As she was still supported by the order even when no one recognized her existence. After all, they did allow her the freedom and car. Not to mention, the fact that she still don¡¯t have to pay for anything herself helps.


    ¡°Fine but don¡¯t talk to me.¡± Leonora then started the car and it automatically drove itself to the hospital. Even though the two are siblings it seemed like both, who were treated differently, also affected their relationship well. Despite being siblings, both couldn¡¯t seem to have anything to talk about, resulting in an awkward silence between the two.


    Other side of town.


    Getting up, Karma was running around to get her stuff ready. Along the way she realised she was forgetting something. Looking for her bracelet as she was wondering where it was. Ever since she was little her father has always told her to keep that bracelet. She even wore it when she slept. But when she woke up she didn¡¯t notice it at all. Looking into Gilius'' room, she then sighs in relief to find it. Why was it in Gilius'' room of all places? It was strange. Then under it was a rather interesting notebook. It said something strange that had several reports of a certain person. She was going to read it but...Beep beep.


    ¡°Oh shoot I need to go right now. Or else I''m going to be late!!!!¡± In that instant, she ran rather fast to the point that was moving in a blur. Then the page soon opened up with words stated as follows. The bracelet has done its purpose. She needs to leave as soon as possible. The date was yesterday.

    Chapter double the trouble


    In an abandoned desolated area scars of battle were shown as several dent and craters scatter everywhere in its surroundings. Yet there was no blood, no fallen enemies. Just one man who was practicing. But despite all the destructive acts, Faust was now just practicing on the wooden dummy as he practiced forms in order to build muscle memory. Despite Faust¡¯s usual persona of a guy who was never serious and causing mischief, he was actually focused. Practicing till sunset when he faded back to the subconsciousness.


    ¡°Dam Faust I hate it when you make me sweat. How am I supposed to work when I''m sweaty? Also, what is wrong with my fashion. Sure I¡¯m more formal with my outfit. But you wear what I wear when you are Menace.¡± In that instant Fausto quickly changed to his doctor''s attire as he disappeared on his way to the hospital.


    Arriving near the hospital, Karma stopped in a rather dark corner before walking casually to the hospital. She didn¡¯t know why, but Gilius recently told her to always stop in a dark alley. He didn¡¯t explain why, but he just told him it''s to give time to take a deep breath before work. Kinda like a form of stress reliever. Drilled into her she just did it put of habit.


    ¡°Okay, the coast is clear no one saw me. Now I just walk..¡±


    ¡°Most people shouldn¡¯t run that fast.¡± Hearing a male voice unexpectedly, on instinct, Karma instantly attacked the male thinking he was creep. Whack...throwing a kick she threw a heavy kick. PONGGG Yet she soon regretted the fact after knowing who she was about to hit.. Hearing a large thump on the hand, it could be imagined that kick would destroy any person that got hit by it. Karma thought she was kicking a tank. But no matter who she was kicking, Trying to attack Dr. Fausto was a really bad idea.


    ¡°Doctor, I¡¯m so sorry!! I thought you were a stranger?!!¡± Karma tried to bow but Fausto walked past her before giving her a chance. Karma then sighed because what she did was inexcusable. Though she would get chosen by other doctors, to get the best experience she wanted to learn under Dr. Fausto. All her hard work to impress Dr. Fausto was lost with one kick she thought.


    ¡°Were you always this fast?¡± Dr Fausto said which then baffled Karma. She wasn¡¯t aware but Fausto had just arrived earlier and happened to notice Karma running at incredible speed.


    ¡°Uhm...just recently. I don¡¯t know why but I¡¯m getting faster every day?¡±


    ¡°Hmm, and you aren¡¯t tired.¡±


    ¡°No I¡¯m not,¡± Karma questioned as she was finding it weird that Dr. Fausto was still talking to her. But then without hesitation, Fausto turned to land a punch. At that point, Karma instinct blocks it.


    ¡°Ho¡­.¡± Fausto was rather surprised to notice that Karma didn¡¯t even look faze. Looking at her arms, Fausto notice that Karma didn¡¯t even have a bruise or broken bones on her arms. Surprising he felt like hitting a metal bar. Her body was tough despite her small figure. Looking at her carefully, he could tell that she was in top physical shape. But when looking at her hobbies there was no such thing as exercising related that she likes to do as a hobby. And to be this strong meant only one thing. The moment Fausto touch her, he had already found some interesting information.


    ¡°I¡¯m sorry for my actions!!!¡± Karma looked concerned. Not from the strike but still from trying to strike him.


    ¡°You should really be more careful when you are in a tiger¡¯s den. Fortunately for you, I was the one that spotted you.¡± Karma was confused about that statement. She wasn¡¯t concerned about that when Fausto started walking away. Sunk into depression as her first impression caused her a golden opportunity. She was thinking how her life would be over before she heard some nice words. ¡°You coming? We are going to be late for work.¡± Hearing that, she was happy as the words from Fausto were rather positive.


    ¡°Coming!!¡± She then followed behind Fausto not knowing what was in store for him. Not realizing her past was soon going to be found out, little by little. Also, she didn¡¯t know how but give a very memorable first impression.


    Inside the hospital


    Walking inside the hospital a crowd started to form immediately when they saw Fausto. Karma was following behind Fausto while walking inside. Some of the doctors were not surprised as many of them were sad that Karma, who was one of the best students there, was already taken. It was unfortunate. But for some of the residents, it was rather exciting.


    ¡°Karma what is going on?!!!¡± Livia came by asking as she was rather excited to see.


    ¡°SHhhhh don¡¯t talk about it right now,¡± Karma said as they were talking behind Fausto. She felt a bit awkward as she didn¡¯t know if she should continue to follow him or just leave.

I will work long nights if I do!!!!¡± This was rather strange to Fausto, Karma, and Livia as they were confused as to what she is talking about. There was still one more slot left. Why did she have to create such an uproar. In fact he was going to give her the card when he saw her entering the building.     ¡°Yeah yeah I¡¯m much better than the other two!!!¡± Leonora said as she was trying to show her resume. ¡°I join more clubs...I..I...have high scores...I..even younger than the two.¡±


    ¡°Now wait just a moment I have the same scores as you and we are only a year older. I¡¯m 24, thank you very much.¡± Livia refuted as she was fighting back.


    ¡°Yeah, and those clubs are because you have to pay a premium for them.¡± Karma was pointing out. Then there was an argument back and forth that was going everywhere. Others wanted to join along as well trying to flock their prestige to then be waved by Fausto immediately. Fausto was then thinking of the current situation. Despite Karma¡¯s gifts, she doesn¡¯t seem to know she is using them. If she did, she would have stood out a lot more. Thankfully she didn¡¯t as it would be bad if she revealed any more of her abilities. Then there was Leonora who seemed to have the utmost confidence in herself but really from reading the reports she doesn¡¯t seem to be able to do long strenuous surgeries. Also, the fact that she is a diviner even if reading the report shows she is a special case, didn¡¯t sit well with Fausto who wanted to keep a low profile.


    ¡°Haaa.¡± Sighing as he was wondering how in the world is he going to deal with whatever came up with. Originally he was going to tell everyone he change his mind on having students. But when he met Karma he couldn¡¯t help but pity her for not knowing how much trouble she would be in. So he made a kind gesture by making her his student so he could one day transfer her away from the city to avoid getting killed. Leonora on the other hand, isn¡¯t worth his time. Especially when she could report to the diviners if he was to be found out. Though Fausto did admit that she is pretty. Still, Livia who was the other option did prove to be a better choice. He should choose her to prevent Leonora from bothering him.


    ¡°Arthur and ministers have approved of her skills. Please give her a chance!!!¡± Leonardo interrupting once again was trying to use authority. Fausto feeling a bit threatened by those words felt more inclined to choose Livia and just say Leonora isn¡¯t qualified. As he was going to say something, Leonora once again spoke over him.


    ¡°Shut up, I don''t need them to back me up.¡± Leonora then grabbed Fausto''s hand but at that moment, Fausto recognized something. In an instant rather than her grabbing him, he was grabbing her. creating a rather awkward situation. It was different than anything Leonora had ever faced. Leonora''s face was getting red as she never had such a feeling before. She was thinking that Fausto was interested in her. Leonora was actually getting excited and thought she was right to do her makeup. Fausto was interested not in the surface but past her as he was looking within. Something terrifying was inside her that was not meant to be part of this world. Even he was sweating from what he was seeing. For some reason looking into her body was like how Venus was to the sun. It just gets burned by its presence.


    ¡°Faust do you feel that?¡± Fausto said to Faust.


    ¡°Yes...why is she not heavily guarded? Do they not see that she is a walking disaster?¡± Even though he was in the subconscious there was fear within those words. Both knowing the danger were trying to find out more about her. But¡­


    ¡°What are you trying to do to her?!!¡± Leonardo said as he was trying to push him away. But Fausto stopped him as he had no interest in him at all. But then he checked his body as well as he was trying to see if he was just as strong or was hiding something unique within him since they were siblings. To both Fausto''s surprise, he wasn¡¯t anything special.


    ¡°He is different from Leonora, he is like the other Diviners. Stronger but unfortunately not even a hair worth compared to her.¡± Faust was saying as he was able to tell. This got Fausto rather intrigued by her, something that he would usually never care about.


    ¡°Yes it seems like we need to do something to her before the diviners know how strong she truly is. We need to find out who the heck is she.¡± Both Fausto and Faust agree that it seems that they have found dangers that no one knows but him. ¡°Two girls that have hidden power that they both can''t control. Oh how exciting¡­¡± With a hint of sarcasm, Fausto was worried as he knew that keeping these two away from everyone else is going to be a lot of work. However, this wasn¡¯t the time to think too much as he needed to get the two out of here. He was causing a scene and it was better to not draw anymore attention than he needed to.


    ¡°Is something the matter?¡± Karma question as everyone was also looking at the situation as rather interesting. Especially for Leonora who was starting to fantasize.


    ¡°No its nothing¡­.¡± Fausto then let go of Leonora¡¯s hand as he went to his pocket. He then grabbed the card and he handed the card to Leonora. ¡°Here is the card, Karma will explain to you what they do. You two follow me. We don¡¯t have much time to lose.¡± Fausto hurried as he wanted to make sure that he got the two away so he could have more time to think for the next course of action. For once he was panicking a bit as though he really did get himself into trouble. Why did those two of all girls have to be different Fausto groaned in his head.


    ¡°Coming!!¡± Leonora said as she was so happy that she was skipping knowing he chose her. Karma, who was surprised as to what happened as she just followed along waving bye to Livia.


    ¡°Wait!!¡± Leonardo said as he was supposed to watch over the two. But¡­.


    ¡°I ''m sorry though you are a cleanser, you should know only medical experts are allowed at this point in time. Please understand.¡± A doctor said. Leonardo was then frustrated with how he was supposed to do his job if he couldn¡¯t watch them. Though he could bypass it, he was supposed to be lowkey about this.


    ¡°Seems like I was the unlucky one that didn¡¯t get to be picked by him. Oh well.¡± Livia said as she didn¡¯t at all find it to be rather sad about it at all. In fact she didn¡¯t care. Which surprised Leonardo.


    ¡°Then what are you going to do?¡±


    ¡°Uhm I''m just going to follow someone else then...I mean really thinking about it, work would be easier for me. It''s great that if I was chosen, but if I don¡¯t, I still have others who would choose me.¡± Livia then casually left and then joined the others. For some reason that relaxed persona seems like she is either really good or she is just that way. Leonardo still seems to find her to be rather odd.


    ¡°Hmm I might need to do some research about her.¡± But that was forgotten pretty fast for some reason. Like a fleeting wind, Leonardo forgot about her as quickly as she left his sight.

    Getting inside the office, Karma and Leonora were amazed as this was the first time they went into the room as it was...it was¡­. IT WAS...dusty. There were just a few desks, just one shelf full of documents. That was it. It looks as though he never was here to begin with? Sitting down he went to his computer that looked rather untouched. Both of the two were curious.


    ¡°Uhm do you even do work here?¡±


    ¡°Yes but I just never seem to do much here. I do everything before I even come here. Usually when I do a diagnostics I usually know right away just from a glance.¡± Not trying to brag but Fausto really never use his office. In fact he does everything by hand so he never had to sit down. Especially since Faust would never do his work when he is awake so it was better if Fausto did it right away. Saving time by doing paperwork on the go, helps him with his hobbies he likes the most.


    ¡°But if you have gotten it wrong?¡± Being reprimanded though, Karma thought this was wrong. For Fausto he didn¡¯t seem worried as he still has his job.


    ¡°Then I wouldn¡¯t be here would I?¡±


    ¡°Wow!!!¡± Leonora said in awe. She was having dazzling eyes as though god was in its midst. ¡°So what are you going to teach us?¡±


    ¡°Nothing.¡± He then handed a few books to them. ¡°Each of you two will cover these books first.¡± These were old books as practically no one uses them. So it was even more odd for him to be giving them books. Especially when everything was through video or virtual reality.


    ¡°....Aren¡¯t you going to teach us anything? Shouldn¡¯t we be doing some rounds or performing surgeries?¡±


    ¡°Hush he knows best, let''s just do it.¡± Leonora obediently listened as she was grabbing the books and dividing them before then dragging Karma to sit on the chair. Fausto was relieved that he had one person that would not question him at all. Heading out he then stood guard in front of the door while he had a rather personal talk with his other half.


    ¡°So what do we do?¡± Fausto asked Faust. Though he chose them, he really didn¡¯t know how to take care of those two. Thinking about it now, he was thinking about the worst case. ¡°Looking inside Leonora, she has a terrifying power that even I can¡¯t stop it. If we kill her now¡­ we could prevent a catastrophe?¡±


    ¡°What nooo....¡± Faust instant response as he questioned why Fausto would say that. It was even against Fausto¡¯s principle to kill as he rarely kills anybody. Even the diviners that attack him he just knocked them out. So to be this desperate was out of the norm.


    ¡°Then what do you suppose we do? We can¡¯t have those two be out and about where everyone can see¡­. We are already in this predicament now you want to market it worse.¡± Even if he had rejected Leonora, it would have cause more problems as it would have drawn more attention with the diviners. They would have other methods, so taking this one was easier. So Faust knew that it was an obvious bait, but a bait that would get the diviners off his back. Thinking about it now he shouldn¡¯t have let Faust do as he pleases with these two. If any of those two get found, his identity would be jeopardized. Planning to walk back in, he was going to get rid of the two since those two are one mistake away from killing him and themselves. However Faust said something rather unexpected as he seemed to have new plans.

    ¡°Pardon??¡± Fausto was questioning it because that is more dangerous. ¡°How would that benefit us?¡± And what would they do if they get exposed or have their power run wild?¡± Fausto could tell just from touching the two that they had so much power within them. So much that if they were careless even once the entire city would be destroyed. Worse he would join them in their fates.


    ¡°It won¡¯t.¡± With two who might have extraordinary powers teaching them to use their powers, it might just blow up in their face. With so much surveillance and diviners, there was no way they could train the two so quietly without getting caught. Especially with two who can¡¯t control it let alone use it.


    ¡°Then why?¡± Fausto had to ask as things aren''t going as planned at all. Despite what Fausto was thinking, Faust wasn¡¯t doing this for personal gain. Beyond all those schemes, Faust wasn''t thinking about that at all. For once he was thinking more humane this time.


    ¡°Cause they would die either way.¡± For once rather than showing mischief or annoyance, Faust was rather concerned with about the two. It caught Fausto off guard when thinking about it.

    ¡°Leonora at this point, even if she wants to use her powers, will never be able to. Rather if she was in an accident it would be a ticking time bomb. Right now as you notice when looking at her body¡­.it wouldn¡¯t be wise to let her be. Worse if she were to tick, this whole region would be destroyed. The moment that happens, the chance she will survive will be unlikely. Based on my estimation her impending destruction isn¡¯t far off . And Karma, well you know how diviner views them. The moment she is found out she will be killed on the spot or even tortured to death. She doesn¡¯t know any of her abilities to escape if danger happens to arrive.¡± Showing that the two were on death doors it made sense in a way why Faust wanted to help them. After all, they themselves are close to it as well.


    ¡°So you''re saying that¡­.¡±


    ¡°Yes those two are¡­. Like us¡­¡± Saying that it resonated with both of them as they couldn¡¯t help feeling as though the two needed their help. Having power but it becomes a curse rather than a blessing was something that they can¡¯t tolerate. The choice was dangerous, but then again ,can their life be any more life-threatening than it already is.


    ¡°Sighhhh. Very well. I agree.¡± Finally understanding his reasoning, Fausto gave in. Still doubting it, he will see how it goes first then change if proved to be dangerous. He thought he might be crazy but for Faust to be this caring is rare. He didn¡¯t know but seemed like whatever the case Faust was drawn to them. Unlike Faust, Fausto thinks things logically, Fausto couldn¡¯t really understand these things like emotion. So when Faust makes decisions out of random, it''s purely on what he feels at the moment. Which doesn''t align with Fausto as he always thinks about everything he does that provides benefit to them.


    ¡°Good because I realized something. I feel like our body is much better than before. When you touch her, some of the energy that has been kept inside her, has been transferred to me.¡± Fausto then checked his pulses to find it to be true. That is odd for a Diviner to do that without their knowledge.


    ¡°But how is that possible? And why is it given to me?¡± Fausto was confused about what was going on? It seems like these two were far more abnormal than what is abnormal already. In fact this might be a tad too much to deal with including the stuff he already had to deal with. At this point work seems like a blessing compared to his personal life.


    ¡°Right now you need to keep them under your surveillance. Especially since they might help us in the future. So instead of making them read books, it''s time for them to actually learn, wouldn''t you say?"


    ¡°Haaa¡­.I find dealing with you one thing. But it seems like dealing with three isn¡¯t charming. Haa..will I live through this longer or shorter? Life really just sucks.¡± Taking a few deep breaths, he opened the door knowing that there was no turning back now or ever as he never realized that his life would go from one place to the next.

    A few days later


    As the sun rises, two diviners meet on top of a hill, drinking coffee and eating donuts. Both Joseph and Leonardo were talking as they were rather bored with their mission. With nothing to do, they could sat on the side of the car as they watched the scenery. It was rather depressing as they could only sigh.


    ¡°Well I haven¡¯t done anything. They don¡¯t allow me to bother them during work. Fausto ignores me, saying that he is rich enough and if I distract him, he would report to Arthur. Karma and Leonora also live with him in a private complex, so it will take some time to get surveillance inside without them noticing. Because of that, I have nothing to do.¡±


    ¡°Haaa...same here it''s been too peaceful for me. Especially since Gilius has done nothing out of the ordinary. I have guys watching him around the clock and still nothing out of the ordinary.¡±


    ¡°Hmmm but you are doing something eventful. While I''m just standing here watching a hospital. May I tag along?¡±


    ¡°No, you have to stay at the hospital just in case something happens. Letting your guard down will lead to our downfall.¡° Joseph warned, ''''Besides, it''s just a sweeping mission, nothing that you can¡¯t do.¡±


    ¡°Very well...May the light of thought be your sword and shield.¡±


    ¡°Let the light of heart be your guide and soul.¡± Giving their farewells, both of them soon went their separate ways, departing to their respective missions. But behind a tree, there was someone watching the two leave as he took his glasses off. As soon as the sun had risen his eyes soon changed to purple. Giving a smile, he quickly formed a mask around his face.


    At the entrance of the city gates.


    Watching the time, Gilius was standing before a thousand fully armed military soldiers. For this mission, it seemed they were given too much stuff. Full body armor equipped with machine guns along with armored vehicles and attack helicopters. It can be said that they weren¡¯t going to get rid of the riots in a peaceful manner. All of the soldiers were well aware of that fact, to be honest. They were informed that no matter who it was, rather it be an adult or the old¡­.they were all viewed the same. And if they dare go against the order, they are deemed not protected by it as well.


    ¡°Everything is ready sir. So, should we commence the operation?¡± A soldier said. His name was Jesse. He was a young light man who was recently named Gilius'' new assistant.


    ¡°No not without Joseph. If we were to start it, it would be a huge violation of our authority. We have to wait for him.¡±


    ¡°Understood sir!!¡± Jesse then went towards another soldier as he was commanding him to do something. This made Gilius rather suspicious. Recently, Jesse, who was his appointed second-in-command, seems to focus on him rather than his duties. Also, he seems to be reporting after certain questions. Seeing this, Gilius was thinking that it was best to get rid of him when the time came. As he was thinking that, a car just happened to drive by like it was pure coincidence. It was Joseph, as though he pretended to be late.


    ¡°Please forgive me for being late. I had prior engagements that I had to attend to before coming here.¡± Putting his device away from sight, it seems that Gilius came late on purpose.


    ¡°No worries, you are the leader of the operation. You may start the mission whenever you deem fit.¡± Gilius saluted.


    ¡°Very well, then let''s open the gates. It seems like they''ve been waiting for a response. Let''s give them a response.¡± Without a shred of mercy, he simply said those words, knowing what was going to happen. But it made no difference because all of this was for the order.


    For the past few months, there has been a gathering of protestors camping out at the entrance of the city. This was because there was dissatisfaction with the new regime. Though it has been true that the country has been the best country in the world. But it came at the price of having more than a good majority of the population having to suffer as a consequence. Mainly the people outside the city. As only the best and the top 40 percent were allowed to live in the great cities. Those cities are given seventy percent of the share of the resources. Other 60 were however having to settle with what''s left. Nothing personal but only those that achieve greatness are the ones that should be given the luxury and safety is what the Diviners believed. Since that was the case that also means the other 60 becomes rather expendable. To make it worse those outside the city aren¡¯t even called Avalonians as they are just called a different name, a name that they carry in shame. Labourers.


    ¡°Hey the gates are opening!! Everyone, they are opening the door!!!¡± One of the people said as they were gathering around as they soon heard the gates opening. They soon started a commotion as they wanted to send a message. However, just as they were about to start¡­..Bam the first person was shot as he was sent to the ground, stunning many who saw that.


    ¡°Wait wait what are..¡± Bam that person was shot too. Everyone was soon bewildered but immediately went to fear as they knew what was happening. The Diviners were sending a message and the dead labourers were the message.

    ¡°They are attacking us, why?!!!!!¡± Many who were wanting to show signs and coming together to make a difference were now trampled across each other''s bodies. They all just wanted their voice to be heard. For the Diviners, though it seems like their voice wasn¡¯t needed. What they wanted was loyalty through action and work.


    ¡°Record this quickly!!¡± Just as some were getting their camera to take a picture of this brutality, they had no way of finding out they would be sniped in an instant. Everyone was trying to get something, only to receive death as its reward. Standing before were Gilius who had just come out as he walked with Joseph. Gilius was rather sad as he didn¡¯t want to complete this operation. But he was being watched, so he kept his poker face in check.


    ¡°No survivors...all must be killed.¡± Soon as many protesters were trying to leave all were surrounded by armoured cars and helicopters. No one was allowed to leave. Some tried to get their phones but they were all shut down as there was no communication. All of them were now at the mercy of the order. ¡°Anything to say?¡±


    ¡°Yes.¡± Joseph then bowed as he then clasped his hands together. ¡°Those who don¡¯t embrace the light aren¡¯t meant to be protected. Let them be brought to the light.¡± As they heard Joseph''s words, everyone continued to pull the trigger with no soldier showing any remorse. Bam the carnage continued once more¡­.. With no hesitation in any of the soldier''s eyes, all continue to litter the ground with new bodies. This was while a person casually walked by, creating footprints with no one noticing. Thud, everyone listened as they heard an unfamiliar noise. Only to notice something falling from the sky.


    ¡°Watch out!!!¡± As everyone heard the sound, they found it to be unexpected as it was their helicopter that was shot down.


    ¡°Heli five is shot. Where is the enemy?¡± Someone asked as everyone was looking around.


    ¡°I don¡¯t know?!! Where is it from? AHHH!!¡± A commander said in the tank before he was also destroyed.


    ¡°Ignore that, we must complete the mission as soon as possible.¡± A soldier who continued the mission. But when he looked around he noticed that all of his soldiers had been shot. ¡°What wha is going on ?¡± He then saw his body get destroyed as well. The thousand soldiers who were once ready to complete their mission were now cowering in fear.


    ¡°Create a perimeter around us. We must keep Joseph safe.¡± Gilius ordered.


    ¡°What are you doing?!! Carry out the mission!!¡± Rejecting the order while also hating to be treated like a bystander, Joseph pulled his weapons out in retaliation.


    ¡°If we lose you, then this mission isn¡¯t important!!!¡± Gilius then got his pistol out just to have Joseph push him away.


    ¡°Continue the mission!! I will deal with the assailant.¡±


    ¡°But...puh!!¡± Gilius was trying to say something before he was knocked out unconscious.


    ¡°Take him away. I¡¯m leading the operation now. All units continue the operation.¡± Forcing everyone to resume their mission, the soldiers who were trying to retreat were now about to start their operation again. But when they looked back¡­¡­...everything was gone as though there was nothing there. The tanks were destroyed and all helicopters fell from the sky. All that was left was a man wielding two pistols and glowing purple eyes. Knowing full well who it was, they looked at the assailant that just appeared right in front of them. It was Menace, no one dared to run as they knew they would be dead either way. Seeing him, everyone created a solid wall of guns as they were all pointing the gun at him. Without waiting, they instantly fired their weapons. Raining bullets and grenades they were doing all they could to destroy him. Futile as snipers bullets or grenade launchers continue to pepper him while he stroll towards their direction. After about 40 yards, he then stopped while leisurely standing there. Playing a game of eeny meeny, he was picking who to shoot as he shot the unfortunate soul who ended up picked. Even destroying a tower as if he had no care in the world. Little did he know that it was the jamming that stopped all the phones from working. Leaving a large media presence later on.


    For a few minutes that was going on, Menace, bored, was casually standing there as he was taking everything they could put on him. It was insane that he was taking the full brunt of it all. They were unloading everything at him. They were trying to get gatling guns and artillery cannons to harm him. But he took it like they were hitting him with marshmallows. Sighing as there were some that were trying to get close to throw mines at him yet couldn¡¯t get even close to him to make it matter. Some of them were scared out of their wits. Looking like a bully, Menace had to show his hands were unarmed to let them continue their attacks. This was still fruitless either way, but he did respect their resolve..


    ¡°Look Joseph, I know you are there!! Can you please fight me? If you don¡¯t, I will kill them all right now.¡± He had already shot a few of them for some time and was already getting bored. So Menace finally called out, wanting to get to the real action. Not willing to back down from a challenge, Joseph then stepped forward as he finally warmed up.


    ¡°Very well. All units go resupply and then recommence the mission. I will deal with this assailant.¡±


    ¡°Yes sir!!!!¡± Opening the gate, the soldiers immediately retreated back. This didn¡¯t seem to sit well with Menace as he would rather keep this fight private.


    ¡°Oh I was hoping that you wouldn¡¯t say those words.¡± Pointing his gun at the soldiers, he concentrated a powerful energy before releasing it.


    ¡°Run!!!¡± Joseph tried to say before poof. The soldiers behind him were all instantly shot as Menace released a thousand light projectiles shooting at all the soldiers present. Joseph created a barrier for himself upon seeing the attack. But it was only for himself, with no protection for the others. This then left many to die without even letting them remember how they died. Ironic how they were going to massacre people to be massacred themselves. Rather than having protesters die, the soldiers were dying.


    ¡°Oh you didn¡¯t protect them? Did you not care?¡¯


    ¡°I would say the same to you. Quite a few of these people die. Did you not care about them?¡± Joseph counter argued as he was looking at all the protestors'' bodies. There were many of them without even a face to identify them. Yet Menace shrugged as he didn¡¯t seem to care about them at all.


    ¡°They have nothing to do with me? Rather killing some or all didn¡¯t bother me. I''m not a hero after all.¡±


    ¡°I see.. Then you aren¡¯t affiliated with them at all. Then why are you here? Is it money or maybe power? If you are willing to cooperate with us, can we give you that?¡¯ Joseph questioned as he was wanting to get any information as to who actually hired him. But Menace dropped in disappointment.


    ¡°Ha¡­.you guys always come up with the same things. Really do you think I would have gone to you earlier if power and money is what I want. At least think of something more complicated before saying something.¡±


    ¡°Then what do you want?¡±


    ¡°Simple.¡± Wielding his pistols, Menace then got to his stance. ¡°I just want to see if I''m better than you.¡± Gesturing him to come forward, Menace did the one thing that would peak the interest of Joseph or rather anyone from the twelve families. A fight.


    ¡°I see.¡± Hearing that, Joseph actually smiled as he was finding it to be a rather satisfying answer. For this reason, he didn¡¯t call for backup. It was because he wanted to face him on his own. He didn¡¯t even report it. Because he knew after this point he would retire after this. ¡°I will gladly accept this offer.¡± Might as well finish it with a worthy opponent, he thought. Pulling the trigger first, Joseph started the fight he couldn¡¯t resist.

 Duel

    The fight started off with a long range fight as they were firing at each other. Sparks were flying in between the two as it was showing how they were countering each other''s attack from long range. Neither side was scathed despite the many projectiles fired at each other. Closing in on each other, the need to dodge became more apparent as the simple gesture to side stepping were growing in size. Yet at the same time the difference in styles were showing as the distance shortened. Menace would side-step left and right every time he needed to dodge and would fire one gun in retaliation while keeping his eyes on the enemy. Joseph was trying to shoot both his guns at the same time. He would rush and shoot both before spinning to the side, putting a constant volley of fire. Hundreds of shots were fired, and not one was making clean hits but this was because both were skilled. Despite having the power to protect themselves from each other''s attacks, neither was using it as they wanted to show their skills without it. It became a point that other things were being hit because of the crossfire rather than the two themselves. Closing in on each, it didn¡¯t stop the intensity of the fight as everything was now moving faster than human sight.


    Just as they got closer, both were now arm''s length from each other. With that, they were now in close combat. This was the real test of gun fighting as it showed a skill that many who use guns lack. Both wanted a clean shot but when the other got a clear shot the other would use his gun to divert it away. Using their close-combat gun fighting as they were hand fighting and grappling. It eventually came to the point they were trying to see who could outmanoeuvre against the other rather than shoot each other. Surprised by his skills, Joseph couldn¡¯t believe there was a man this skilled in fighting. Menace who was unknown, fought like a seasoned veteran. With a gun barrel pointing at his face, Fausto didn¡¯t panic as he trusted his technique and form to carry him out of any situation. To add on top of that, he never forces anything as he lets opportunities develop. Understanding why Leonardo was defeated, Joseph was glad that Menace was his final opponent. Yet Joseph didn¡¯t realise that under Menace¡¯s mask was a face of dissatisfaction.


    After the stalemate continued for a few minutes, both of them pushed against each other. Which then resulted in gaining separation as they were now shooting at each other from a distance once more. Bam bam the fight was getting more and more intense as they were using more power, causing pithole and damages to the walls. Each time energy was shot, the more danger it was to be even close to the fight. But they didn¡¯t care about anyone else, they cared about winning. Eventually though it became apparent that nothing was progressing as the fight continued to a standstill. Into a standoff, the two pointed their gun right at each other''s faces.


    ¡°Hmm so what do you think of my skills? I recently learned it so I¡¯m still trying to get better.¡± Menace said as he got rid of his weapon to signal the end of this round. Respecting his opponents, so did Joseph as he retracted his gun.


    ¡°Impressive. In all my years of fighting, I have never seen someone so proficient with guns as good as me. Even my brightest student can¡¯t match my level.¡± Joseph said as he was saying that in admiration from one fighter to another. ¡°To think you did this in a few days. Very impressed.¡±


    ¡°Thank you. But I have to thank you again, as I never thought how amazing dual-wielding pistols were. It''s also quite fun.¡± Menace complimented as he never would have liked using dual pistols. Eventually, he came around as he played with it the last few days. He soon saw the advantages of using them. He thought maybe once in a while he would fight using this style.


    ¡°I would agree to it. But sadly, I will have to kill you. Please be honoured that you will be killed by me. And I will use everything to defeat you.¡± Joseph then created full body armor and enhanced his pistols into submachine guns strapped with bayonets. Looking like a knight in shining armor, it gives Joseph a cool appeal. Releasing more divine energy, it can be shown that his power was far stronger than before. Needless to say, the next time he releases an attack it would kill Menace if he wasn''t careful. Unfortunately, Menace didn¡¯t seem to be threatened by the new form at all.


    ¡°That is cool. Looks like you were better than the last ones. However, something seems rather off about you Cleansers. Have your skills gotten weaker?¡± Menace curiously asked. After fighting the few Cleansers he felt like their technique was rather unpolished. But all were similar to Joseph¡¯s.


    ¡°What is that?¡±


    ¡°How you use energy is bad. Your armor is strong, while your attacks are rather weak. If you focus on every individual shot you will be far stronger along with your armor. Know your strengths and work on them. You are making things too complicated for yourself.¡±


    ¡°What do you mean?¡± Joseph questioned as he wondered about that. This again disappointed Menace as he was dropping his shoulders.


    ¡°You guys should really be watching movies. Some of them can teach you some good life lessons.¡± Menace then created a double-bladed staff along with some shoes but they were very unique as Joseph would soon find out. ¡°Hope you are ready?¡±


    ¡°Hmph, who do you take me for I¡¯m¡­¡± As he was preparing to fire, he wanted to warn Menace. But just as he was about to speak to Menace, the gap was instantly closed. Whoosh


    ¡°Who?¡± Was the only thing Menace said before slashing at Joseph''s unguarded torso. Dodging in time, Joseph was able to avoid the slash but his armor that was supposed to protect him was cut cleanly. If it wasn¡¯t for that armor he might have been split in half. Just as that happened, he thought he had survived but just as he was able to reposition...Menace had already closed the gap with his staff ready to slash him.

    ¡°How¡­?¡± Joseph said as he was able to block the attack. Before making contact, Menace twirled it in an instant as he used the other side of the staff to pierce him again. In the skin of his teeth, he was able to block it.


    ¡°Oh.¡± Then, as though he was dancing, Menace kept attacking him in a circle. Constantly appearing making sure that Joseph couldn¡¯t get a clear shot. Even if he did, Menace would already be slashing at Joseph before he could make the shot. With constant movement and being able to attack while defending simultaneously, Menace left no room for counterattack. Joseph tried to fight back but the speed was too fast for him. Menace was moving at abnormal speeds while using the dual sword staff to close the distance. And he even increased the blade whenever he needed to close the distance.


    Struggling to keep up, Joseph kept his cool as he was still a veteran in battle. No matter the small chances, he was looking for the right opportunity. Betting on one move, Joseph predicted where Menace was pointing his gun at his blind spot. This caught Menace off guard as the gun was pointed right at his face. Joseph, without hesitation pulled the trigger to attack. Slit, blood was splattered across the floor as the unpredicted happened. In delight, Joseph was smiling as there was blood on Menace''s face. Yet his smile soon faded as he collapsed to see the staff pierce through his abdomen. He tried to get rid of the sword but it had already pierced deep into his body. ¡°Ahh!!!¡± Using his gun, he created an explosion to separate them.


    ¡°Oh¡­.I got dust all over me? Well that is a first.¡± Menace said as he was brushing them off. Looking at Joseph, Menace looked to see how bad the damage was. Using his armor, Joseph was able to stop the bleeding. But still the pain was still very much there. ¡°Do you want to go check that out? I heard there is a good doctor here?¡± Menace casually joked. But Joseph then shot a blast at him in rage. Of course, Menace blocked it as it was obvious. ¡°Hey, I¡¯m just looking after you? Don¡¯t need to get all defensive.¡±


    ¡°Ha...ha...how are you so fast...are you a¡­.shadow dweller?¡± Joseph questioned as there was no way that Diviners could move that fast in such a short distance.


    ¡°Sorry.¡± Joseph guessed, only to have Menace shoot a blast of energy towards the gate to show he is very much a diviner. ¡°Though you might have to think twice before you get yourself killed.¡±


    ¡°Then...why..so fast ha¡­¡­?¡± Menace then looked at his feet as he made himself fly up a bit with the light energy.


    ¡°Just like how you use the explosion to push me back, you can also use it to push me forward. Like jet shoes!!¡± Menace again flew up once more. ¡°Cool right?¡± Amused, Joseph chuckled a little as for being the forefront of using technology he seemed rather behind with the times. ¡°Using light in a short burst of energy will increase my speed. Allowing me to move faster than normal and close the gap faster.


    ¡°To think that I was that far behind. It seems I should retire¡­¡±


    ¡°Isn¡¯t that perfect!! You can relax and enjoy yourself.¡±


    ¡°No, because I belong to the battlefield...cough...cough.. And I will die on the battlefield¡­...¡±


    ¡°Knights¡­. they can¡¯t go home peacefully.¡± Menace sighed even though he couldn¡¯t help but agree as he started giving the finishing blow. Bammm!!!! Menace immediately created a shield as a large power attack almost blew him away. ¡°Hmm...reinforcements?¡±


    ¡°That attack...it can¡¯t be¡­.¡± Joseph said. Both of them look to see a bunch of diviners approaching at the top of the wall. Immediately, without warning they had already charged their weapons, waiting for the command of one person holding a ceremonial longsword. Looking down, he seemed like he wasn¡¯t concerned with Menace as he was more concerned looking at Joseph. Right away, opening the gate was Gilius along with cleanser and soldiers taking position as well. Within seconds, Menace was surrounded instantly.


    ¡°Surrender at once!!¡± An old-looking figure soon came amongst them wearing the coat of a minister. Carrying the sword, he then pointed it right at Menace. ¡°I¡¯m Minister Samuel of Ector. if you don¡¯t, we''ll show no mercy.¡± Looking at Menace, he then channeled a large amount of energy to his sword as he was ready to fire at will. Midway of channelling he stopped as he notice a gun pointed at him. Not just anybody; it was Joseph, pointing his gun at Samuel.


    ¡°Stop!!! ...he..is ..mine....¡± Losing consciousness while slowly breathing, Joseph still wanted to fight at his current state.


    ¡°Joseph, you need treatment. Please rest!!!¡± Samuel shouted as he was surprised by that reaction from Joseph, who needed to be rescued. To have his own family try to shoot him was strange.


    ¡°No I¡­..!!!¡± Joseph said as he then turned to look at Menace, who soon disappeared. Everyone was so bewildered by what just happened that they had completely forgotten about Menace. ¡°How..is..he..so.¡± Knowing that the fight was over, Joseph''s willpower to stay awake was lost as he finally gave in. But how he slept was not the way he wanted, as he slept knowing he had failed.


    Knowing it was safe, Samuel immediately went to Joseph. After all, they were from the same family so helping him out was priority. Leaving everyone to deal with the aftermath, he was relieved that Joseph was still breathing. He then turned to Gilius who was the de facto leader of this mission.


    ¡°Sir I am sorry for our failure. We offer our heads for the shame we brought to the Order.¡± Gilius then grabbed his gun, along with everyone else as they offered it to Gilius. However, Samuel stopped all of them from doing anything further.


    ¡°No, you are forgiven. If you had not sent out the signal, we would have lost Joseph. He is after all, my uncle. So for saving his life, you have been given a second life.¡± Despite looking old it''s because he had more facial hair than Joseph that showed his age. However, he was much younger than Joseph by a hundred years. Just better observation; without the beard, he would look much younger than Joseph.


    ¡°I will use this life to serve you.¡± Gilius saluted once more before then walking away to continue to clean up duty.


    ¡°How is he?¡± Samuel asked as doctors came immediately to treat him. Though it seemed dire, the doctors were rather at ease as they had sigh of relief.


    ¡°Not life-threatening. After treatment, he should be fine.¡±


    ¡°Good. Continue with your work. I will report this to Arthur.¡± Samuel said as he then looked at Jesse next to Gilius who then gave a rather silent nod. Simple gesture Gilius knew for sure that he was the spy after all. His second-in-command was reporting it to Ector''s family. But Gilius smiled as he already had countermeasures for it. Looking in the ground were the soldiers he wanted dead. Finally, he now has more freedom than before. The operation was a success.

 New romance

    While the soldiers were falling back, most of the protesters managed to escape to some degree. As some were eventually chased down. But not before a video was sent that became the hope of the oppressed. It was soon spread like wildfire that not even Faust or Gilius would have expected.


    ¡°Hoooo¡­that was scary!!¡± Faust said as he found a corner of a place to rest within the city. He didn¡¯t think that he was able to enter the city with so many diviners. Fortunately, how he got out of the city was how he got in. ¡°Using the light ability to help create invisibility. After some time, I was finally able to do it.¡± He said to Fausto as he was changing his attire. With his Menace outfit, he changed and burned the clothes as he put on the doctor¡¯s uniform.


    ¡°To think you were using that on this occasion. I didn¡¯t think you would not only enter the battlefield going invisible but also walk through all the soldiers.¡± During the entire time tanks and helicopters were destroying people, he was walking through the gate with the soldiers who were trying to massacre the people. He even walked past Gilius and Joseph to test his skills. Using his abilities perfectly while keeping the camouflage on was difficult but he had some help with Fausto giving him pointers. It was a work of perfection as he also managed to escape while being surrounded by Diviners.


    ¡°Well, I say the mission is complete. I injured Joseph and was able to test my gun skills. It seems like I am getting good at this martial art thing.¡±


    ¡°Agreed and I got some benefits as well,¡± Fausto said as he was awaiting the dead bodies that were going to show up at the hospital.


    ¡°Seems you are in lively spirits. It has been a while since we were able to kill this many.¡± Faust said since even though Fausto didn¡¯t prefer to kill, he needed dead bodies. As it would be known later but for now Fausto just prefers dead bodies for one reason or another.


    ¡°True¡­. anyways, time to head back to the hospital. We need to look over the two.¡± Reminding Faust, Fausto was urgently wanting Faust to return as he was worried that without his careful watch, the two would be caught. It seemed like Fausto was getting really stressed about his two new students.


    ¡°Yes yes, I know. Jeez, you are more annoying the other two. Can¡¯t wait to go back and see you harem¡­ Then again..¡± Faust said with a bright smile. Faust recalled he had met Karma yesterday as he had accidentally taken off his glasses off revealing his purple eyes. Karma immediately saw it as she was saying something. Immediately, Faust was going to put his glass back on, only to hear words that he hadn¡¯t heard in a long time.


    ¡°Your eyes are really beautiful.¡± Karma left afterwards, but that triggered something within Faust. Everyone could never differentiate between the two. So for her to say that she likes his eyes was a compliment he never would have dreamed of hearing. Resonating with him, he soon found more interest in her. ¡°You know that, Karma girl. I don¡¯t know, but there is something about her. Especially her looks.¡± Saying those words, it was the first time Faust had talked about someone''s looks.


    ¡°And what about it? They both are pretty for their age. Fausto was there when Karma said it, but paid no heed to it. Though he admitted the two are pretty, he didn''t seem to care in the least and wasn''t into having carnal desires for the two. But one of them was interested.


    ¡°Let¡¯s see what I could do with her.¡± He smiled as he rushed in excitement, wanting to go to work.


    ¡°Hey, wait. Wait!!! Don¡¯t cause misunderstandings!! I''m not into her!!¡± Fausto screamed, but Faust ignored him as he drove his car. It seemed like he was a changed man.


    An hour later


    Back at the hospital, there were many people being transported as there were serious injuries with the soldiers, along with the regular patients that was stopping by. Many came from the mission that happened earlier in the day. Because of the injuries caused by Faust, they were facing many significant injuries, such as missing limbs. Faust did obliterate a good portion of the soldiers. But those who survived were left to face future scars physically and mentally. Immediately trying to rescue them, many doctors were called to action. This included Karma and Leonora, who had been working twelve hours already and now had to do more because of this.


    ¡°Karma¡­.. I''m tired¡­.can we go to sleep?¡± Leonora said as she was already having bags under her eyes. Being so weak, she didn¡¯t even have the strength to move. If Karma was the strongest, then Leonora would be the weakest. Just looking at her it could be seen that she didn¡¯t do any lifting at all. Her arms were like toothpicks to Karma''s defined muscles.


    ¡°Shut up, you don¡¯t see me complaining.¡±


    ¡°Not my fault that you are superwomen,¡± Leonora argues back. ¡°I mean, you just lifted a two-hundred-pound guy by yourself.¡±


    ¡°Well, I thought those in the twelve families should be strong too.¡±


    ¡°I¡¯m an exception. Thanks for reminding me of that. Anyways, where is Fausto? He left after five this morning?¡± Looking around, Leonora was scanning the room for Fausto.


    ¡°Don¡¯t you remember he said that he had to rest for a few hours as he had been up all day?¡±


    ¡°But whyyyyyy?!!!!¡± Complaining, she started to let Karma do all the work.

Reacting, Karma instantly stopped what she was doing and rushed to the old man. Leonora saw this too, as the two quickly reacted to wanting to help the old man while leaving the soldier they were attending to others. Karma rushed to the old man to keep him alive for as much as possible, while Leonora was getting a defibrillator to help the patient, but struggled to find one as everyone was using one. Worst possible time for that.


    ¡°Hey!!! Ignore him, save the soldiers, we don''t need to prioritize him!!!¡± A doctor said as he quickly dragged Karma to help another patient.


    ¡°Wait, this old man is suffering from cardiac arrest. If we don¡¯t save him, he will die.¡±


    ¡°Ignore him, the government has ordered the priorities of saving the soldiers and those who are young. That old man isn¡¯t Avalonian, no need to save him.¡± In disbelief, Karma then pushed the doctor away, further than expected to say the least. But no one cared as they were all busy.


    ¡°I can¡¯t believe you would say such a thing. I need to go back!!!¡± Karma instantly went to help the old man. But by that time, Leonora, who came, noticed his breathing had stopped.


    ¡°It''s too late..¡± Leonora said as she looked at the time. This angered Karma as she looked at the doctor..


    ¡°If you had..let me save...him...he would have¡­..¡± Karma was walking closer to the doctor as he was suddenly scared for some reason. It was like dark energy was starting to form in her eyes, as it felt like she had every intent to kill.


    ¡°Come with me!!!¡± Karma then turned to see that Faust grabbed her. Leonora was surprised as well. As both of them hadn''t expected Fausto to be here when he left a while ago. Karma was trying to struggle but Faust was keeping a very tight grip on her. Dragging her outside the hospital, they were finally able to talk.


    ¡°What are you doing?!!! Let me go!!¡± Karma was trying to head back as Faust finally let go of his grip. Stopping in front of her, Faust blocked her from entering to help cool herself before really getting herself in trouble.


    ¡°What am I doing? What are you doing? You look like you were going to kill the Doctor!!!!¡± Faust shouted as he was being unusually loud compared to his quiet other half. This made Karma become timid as she was scared to argue back. Faust was very angry because of how reckless Karma was being. He was even more surprised that those eyes were not of an innocent lady. It had eyes that looked like a killer. Yelling at her, her eyes soon reverted like it would never kill a soul.


    ¡°But he..he made...that old guy could have..¡± Karma was trying to say. But Fausto stopped her.


    ¡°That guy was a retainer. He was allowed in because a family member let him. Compared to the Avalonians and soldiers¡­.he isn¡¯t required.¡± Retainers are people who were invited to come into the city because of the association to an Avalonian. Those who are Avalonians are allowed to choose a person to live with them. As long as they have a clear history with no issues of trouble, they would be allowed to live within the city. But because of their status, they are not as priortise compared to others.


    ¡°But...but...it isn¡¯t fair¡­.smmmmm..¡± Karma was trying to hold back her tears. But Faust then fixed her up as he was trying to calm her down. Seeing her facial emotions, Faust felt something within him for the first time like he was hurt for some reason. That expression was something he didn''t want to see in her. It was odd. He was originally trying to hit on her, but something changed. Instead of a player, he wanted to comfort her in a nicer way.


    ¡°Look for those in the medical field, our duty is to save people. But we need to do everything to help those who are needed for the country. We still need soldiers; they are important.¡± Faust said. ¡°It is unfortunate but remember this was what you signed up for.¡±


    ¡°Mmm¡­but...¡± Karma nodded as she hid her tears. Wanting to save everyone, she thought she could do it. Yet it was a reality she had not yet accepted.


    ¡°Remember we can¡¯t save everyone. Now come here.¡± Faust said as he gave her a hug. Karma being sad took it as she did feel better. She didn¡¯t realize that Fausto was this nice as he was usually distant. She however didn¡¯t realize that Faust was smiling as it was something only Faust would show.


    ¡°Going with the sympathy act. You disgust me. Are you even Faust?¡± Fausto said in his head. But Faust didn¡¯t care because Fausto wasn¡¯t important right now. While this was going on, Leonora came to see what was up. Only to find those two hugging, which irked Leonora.


    ¡°Hey we have some work to do!!! Hurry!!¡± Leonora said as to bother them. This almost upset Faust, who wanted to kill her. Like an alarm, Karma soon realised that there were patients. Refocused, she headed back inside.


    ¡°Thank you, Fausto. From now on, I will do my best to save those I need. Thank you.¡±


    ¡°Then make sure you come to me when you need help. I am your teacher after all.¡± Faust winked.


    ¡°Yes, thank you!!¡± Karma quickly bowed as she rushed inside with Leonora.


    ¡°Hmmm¡­.I was actually enjoying it.¡±


    ¡°Stop dreaming, she isn¡¯t that vulnerable to you at all. You think that she is weak who would fall for you?¡± Fausto said.


    ¡°You know, for once, can you think of me as a gentleman. Haaa¡­.she is a good woman. She cares for other people very much.¡± Faust complimented her as he liked her. But this confused Fausto.


    ¡°I thought you said you like women who are strong-willed and willing to challenge you.¡±


    ¡°Hmmm...I thought so too. But it seems like I just want a kind, innocent woman after all.¡± Faust happily said. ¡°I hope she realises who I actually am¡­...¡± Thinking about it, she called him Fausto, which for some odd reason hurt him. Always gotten used to it, only to find it rather odd for the first time. ¡°Anyways, Fausto, you need to teach her immediately.¡±


    ¡°What do you mean?¡±


    ¡°You saw what she almost did. If I didn¡¯t stop her, she would have exposed something she wasn¡¯t aware of.¡± Faus,t then imagine something. ¡°I wonder about what her reaction will be when she realizes who she really is and how people would view her.¡± Thinking about it was a cause for concern for him.


    ¡°You are weird right now.¡± Fausto thought. ¡°Wondering if I should get a lottery today?¡±


    ¡°Just do it. Right now, if we don''t, things could get ugly?¡± Already thinking that since he had powers of a diviner, it would be impossible for him to teach Karma. Faust was for once hating the fact that he was a diviner and wished he was a shadow dweller. Sad to say he would have to watch Fausto do all the personal coaching. Fausto, on the other hand, didn¡¯t want to deal with Karma but couldn¡¯t because ...he was right. He was going to have to since she is officially his problem. Especially if she ever gets found out, he would be involved immediately. Though he wouldn¡¯t be blamed for not knowing but the diviners would keep surveillance over him. That is what he personally doesn¡¯t want to deal with.


    ¡°But that is going to be a lot of work¡­.¡± Fausto was really complaining as he wasn¡¯t looking forward to the additional work he already had to do. Working in the hospital was one thing, but having to need to train someone is even more work. Faust ignored him as he was already having to deal with something that he never wanted to deal with himself. Patients. Worse was the fact that the patients he has to help¡­¡­are those he had just almost killed.


    ¡°Don¡¯t mention that to me. I have to deal with my victims.¡± Faust loves the assassin job because he gets to kill and leave. When it comes to being a Doctor¡­.he hates it. Not only does he have to help all the soldiers¡­he has to¡­fix up all the damage he had done to some of the soldiers. It was like making a mess of a room but you have to clean it afterwards. No one wants to do that. ¡°Huh you just had to be a doctor, didn¡¯t you?¡± Blaming this on Fausto, who really felt like he was the victim of all this. After all, he was being dragged into everything that Faust wanted to do.


    ¡°And you just had to be an Assassin, didn¡¯t you¡­Guess you get to feel what happens when you have to take care of your own mess.¡± Fausto pointed back as he was excited that he could relax and not have to deal with the patients this time. It was nice for a change, much to Faust''s displeasure.
