《It's Ty not Tay》 First Meetings This story starts off with a boy named Taylor. Taylor lived in the desolate countryside in an orphanage. He goes to a school not far from the town. And he likes to hang out with his friend Joseph. They met in the orphanage and became fast friends. The two of them were inseparable. They were the family they didn''t have. Joseph was taller than Taylor but Taylor was older and much more mature for his age. He could out talk any adult and didn''t really get along with any other kids their age. With an orphanage as large as there''s it was easy to fall through the cracks. They could run around in the woods and hang around the town for at least a few days before anyone noticed anything. So that''s what they did. Skipping school wasn''t a problem for them as they read plenty of books in their free time. They just didn''t like the stuffy classroom and teachers who really couldn''t care less. It was better to learn on their own and have fun doing it. When they wanted pocket change they did odd jobs around town. They didn''t usually talk to anyone else as they liked to keep to themselves. But the people around town admired their work ethic despite their age. Taylor was 16 and Joseph was 15. They weren''t children but their rough childhoods from before the orphanage put a damper on their growth so they look younger than they are. The two of them could barely pass for fifteen. Whether in public or private they were often in their own little world. Taylor liked to say it was ¡®us against the world¡¯. Joseph looked up to Taylor and hoped that they would always look out for each other the way they do now. The eighth day of May. Taylor didn''t come back to the orphanage. This was normal as he would often sneak off so Joseph didn''t think much of it. After a few days of not seeing him Joseph got worried. Even if Taylor had something to do and would be gone a long time he would always tell Joseph in advance. To go this long without seeing each other once wasn''t normal. He wasn''t sure about telling the adults as Taylor and him didn''t really get along with them. His worry took over indecision so he told an advisor. Advisor: I''m sure he''s fine. The two of you are always off somewhere. He''ll come back eventually. Joseph figured this would happen so he found another advisor. Advisor: I really don''t have time for you two. Just wait for him to come back, he always does. Joseph was upset and growing restless. He didn''t know what else to say. After talking to two more advisors he gave up and decided to look on his own. He went to every place they hung out. He then talked to the people who gave them jobs. He searched the town, the forest, the school and the orphanage twice. His brother was gone. Before Taylor left he said he was going out to deal with something. He was always working on something so Joseph didn''t ask. He was now regretting not asking for any details. He told everyone he could to let him know if they saw Taylor. He''d been missing for three days. And Joseph searched for another two. Eventually he finally got the police involved but everyone concluded it was a simple run away case. The kids at the orphanages run away all the time. Sometimes they come back, sometimes they don''t. Cops: That Taylor is smart he probably thought he could handle himself out there and is doing just fine. Joseph insisted that couldn''t be the case as he would never leave him behind. But no one listened. After a week he gave up the adults and started to retrace Taylors steps. He spent day and night looking and while everyone else forgot about Taylor. To them he was just another random kid. Whether he comes back or not means nothing to them. But it was everything to Joseph. His heart felt cold and his chest tightened painfully. He didn''t have anything but then there was Taylor. His protector, older brother, and best friend was gone. Now he was alone and he hated the world for ignoring them. The seventeenth day of May Joseph was walking past the forest edge one night when he heard a sound. He looked to the source to find something in the lake. It was dark and hard to see but as he got closer he found it was a person. At first he was startled as he thought someone had drowned. But then the person started to cough and struggled to swim. Seeing them start to actually drown, Joseph quickly recovered and ran in to pull them out. He dragged the person to shore and tried to wake them up. The moon was bright and not obstructed by the clouds. Now that this person was in front of him he could easily see their face. Joseph was shocked as he recognized this person. Joseph frantically called out: Taylor? Are you okay? Please wake up, what happened to you? The person from the lake slowly opened his eyes. He could vaguely hear his name being called but it was slightly off. Coughing a few times he opened his eyes. He looked at the worried expression on the boy in front of him. Seeing his fright he couldn''t help but comfort him: It''s alright I''m fine thank you for helping me. Joseph''s expression froze for a moment as he felt something was wrong. The boy caught his breath and sat up. Meeting Joseph''s strange expression the boy asked: what''s wrong, are you hurt? Joseph was quiet for a moment then questioned slowly: You''re not Taylor?Unauthorized duplication: this tale has been taken without consent. Report sightings. The boy gave a confused look and said: No. My name isn''t Taylor, it''s Tyler. Did you mean to say Tyler? Have we met? Joseph was dazed. How could someone look so similar and have such a similar name too? Joseph scrutinized the boy in front of him. Now that he''s got a closer look, this person does look slightly different from Taylor. But their faces are so similar it wouldn''t be surprising if they were twins. His hair was longer and the eye color was just slightly off. The differences were so minimal that Joseph''s probably the only one in the world who could tell. Aside from his looks, his clothes and the way he carries himself are different. Speaking of which, what''s with his clothes? As the other looked at him with such a focused expression Tyler couldn''t help tense up. His thoughts wandering. Was there something on his face? Had they really met before? Why are his eyebrows so furrowed? Is he mad? The longer he was stared at the more his head spun. Joseph finally noticed the awkward expression on the look alike and averted his gaze. Fixing his expression Joseph broke the silence: Sorry about that, I thought you were someone else. Are you alright? Why were you in the lake? Tyler regained his senses and thought for a moment. Tyler: I don''t know. I must have fallen in. I''m no good at swimming. But I''m fine now because of you so thank you. Joseph narrowed his eyes: Where are you from? I would have remembered you if I saw you around. Yet for some reason you''re all the way out here in the country side and near the forest no less walking around at midnight. I have to say you''re quite suspicious. Tyler felt like he needed to escape for some reason. Defending himself, Tyler threw the accusation back: What about yourself? Aren''t you just as suspicious walking here at this time? The two glared at each other for a moment then sighed. Joseph scoffed: Right so we''re both suspicious but I have a place to go back to. Acting all defensive could you be a runaway? Tyler: In a way yes I''m always someplace new. I don''t know where I am right now and I don''t have anywhere to go. If you could just tell me where the next town is I would appreciate it. Joseph gave him a look of doubt: Do you have any money? Tyler shot him an annoyed glare: I should have enough for the night then I can make more tomorrow. As he said this he pulled open the bag hanging across his back. They looked inside a money pouch and sure enough he had just enough for one night''s rest. From where they were the town was still a thirty minute walk whereas the orphanage was only fifteen minutes. Joseph thought for a moment and said: there''s no need to waste your money on one night''s rest. Also, we''re soaked and it''s midnight. It''s better to get warm fast. The town is too far but the orphanage is nearby. You can clean up and rest there then continue on in the morning. As he spoke he helped the other to their feet and started walking. Tyler noticed the other had already made up their mind and was slightly peeved. After thinking about it, he knew that the other was right and that it was better to follow him. He thought so but he didn''t move. Joseph noticed that the other hadn''t followed and turned around. Joseph: why aren''t you following you don''t agree? Tyler shook his head and said: I can''t walk well and I don''t have my cane. It''s probably still in the water. Cane? Joseph walked to the lake and looked around. It wasn''t so deep that he couldn''t find it if he looked but it was too dark to look for it now. He turned to the other and asked: How bad is it? Can you still walk without it? Tyler shook his head and said: Without the cane it''ll probably take three times as long as I get tired without the support. It really depends on the day. Joseph: I see. And you almost drowning probably doesn''t help much. Since it''s already late and the path is ragged it''s probably better to just carry you to avoid further injury. Tyler didn''t dislike the idea of being carried as he was really tired. But he was already annoyed by this boy and wanted to get back at him, shooting him a look of distrust. Meeting his eyes that screamed ¡®you look weak¡¯ Joseph got defensive: oh relax I''m stronger than I look and with how short you are it''s really not that difficult. Tyler scoffed: I didn''t even say anything but you''re right you don''t look all that strong and I''m barely shorter than you so don''t overestimate your own strength and hurt yourself. The two were back to glaring at each other. In the end Joseph carried him on his back. It took them a little longer than expected but it was still better than going all the way into town. Multiple failed attempts at conversing lead them to an unsaid agreement of not getting to know each other. When they made it to the orphanage they snuck up to Joseph''s room. Joseph and Taylor snuck in an out all the time so it was easy for him to do. In this orphanage the older kids get their own rooms and at most have to bunk with two other kids. This meant that they only needed to make it to the room and they didn''t have to worry about getting caught. Joseph always thought he was lucky to have bunked with Taylor. They didn''t start out that way but Taylor talked the advisors into a corner and in the end they got to be roommates. In recent days he avoided his room as it only made him feel lonely. He brought Tyler to a chair and went to the bathroom to start a bath. The last thing he needed was to catch a cold right now. He came back and started pulling out a new set of clothes. He was about to grab some of Taylors clothes since they would fit Tyler better but doing so made him feel wrong somehow so he just grabbed some of his old pajamas. Looking at Tylers clothes he couldn''t help but ask: I noticed this earlier but why are you dressed like that? It seems inconvenient. Tyler looked down and realized that he was dressed a little strange. At a glance they seemed a little fancy but everything was a little loose. His pants were rolled up, his shirts oversized and his shoes are so plain they almost seem out of place. Not only that but he was very ragged and his clothes were dirty. At first Joseph thought it was from the lake but it seemed more like he was in a fight recently. Tyler answered truthfully: It is different from what I''m used to but I was in a rush at the time and couldn''t help what I looked like. Then I never found the time or money to get proper fitting ones. Joseph: I see. It can get rough out there on your own. Joseph lamented imagining Taylor going through similar struggles. Joseph seemed to be in deep thought so Tyler cleaned up first. When he came back Joseph was gone. He was tired but decided it probably wasn''t good manners to sleep on someone else''s bed without their say so. He sat back down on the chair and waited patiently. When Tyler was in the bathroom Joseph got hungry so he left to get the two of them something to eat. On his way back from sneaking food from the kitchen he ran into one of the advisors. He was immediately detained and brought to the office for scolding. He somehow made it out with the food but he thought it would be best if he avoided the advisors for a while. When he made it back to the room he had already forgotten about the extra guest waiting for him. Opening the door he was taken aback by the sight. The lights were off to avoid suspicion but the moonlight showed through the window adding a natural glow to the room. Sitting on the chair by the window was a boy with his eyes closed. His pajamas were slightly oversized and he was a little thin for his age. His complexion was better now that he was clean and relaxed. His hair was smoother than before and it almost seemed to glow in the moonlight. He looked a little out of this world. Joseph couldn''t help but tense up a little. This person looked too much like the ghost of Taylor. A frown appeared on his lips as his mind wandered endlessly. Why was such a person here? Why did he look so similar to Taylor? What does this mean? Is Taylor really gone forever? Joseph did his best to push these thoughts to the back of his mind. He didn''t want to know the truth. He just wanted Taylor back. He put the food on the short table and went to clean up. When he came back he noticed the other staring at the food. Joseph called out to him: You''re awake again. Are you hungry? Tyler looked at him and nodded. He seemed a little out of it. He was probably exhausted and still half asleep. Joseph lowered his voice to speak: Come sit down and eat something. This is all there is. Tyler got up and walked to the short table and slowly sat down. He seemed as though his leg still ached slightly. Joseph suggested that after eating he rested on one of the beds. He was going to point to Taylors bed but just like before he didn''t like anything that made it look like Taylor was being replaced. In the end he swapped beds and told Tyler to use his bed. Tyler fell asleep almost immediately after touching the pillow. Joseph lay awake for a bit then eventually dozed off. That night he dreamt of the past. Ever since Taylor disappeared he hadn''t slept well and was constantly bombarded with nightmares. Too many what ifs about Taylors disappearance. Maybe because Tyler looked so similar that for the first time in almost two weeks he dreamt of the good times he had with Taylor. He slept well and woke up late the next day. Getting along Eighteenth of May. By the time Joseph got up the sun was already out nearing noon. He turned over on the bed to see the person across the room still sleeping. Joseph sighed and thought: So it wasn''t a dream. Such a person really exists. Joseph got up and started his day. After cleaning up he went to get breakfast and brought it up to the room. Technically he had school at this time but he often skipped it anyway. Nowadays he''d be looking for Taylor since dawn. He didn''t think it was a good idea to go too far from Tyler so he didn''t go out searching today. He found something to read and waited for the other to wake up. Tyler didn''t wake up until after lunch. The previous day was extremely exhausting. Now he was in a comfy bed in a warm room after a warm bath. He couldn''t remember the last time he was so relaxed. When he turned his head and opened his eyes he could see the boy who helped him yesterday. He was sitting up on the other bed quietly reading something. When he heard rustling Joseph looked up. Tyler looked at him, still half asleep. He always felt that this person looked at him strangely. Did he know something? No that wasn''t it. It''s more like he was worried about something but refuses to acknowledge it. He didn''t always act like this but in the corner of his eye Tyler always saw a glimpse of this look. Joseph was the first to speak: look who''s finally awake. Breakfast is over but there''s lunch on the table. Tyler got up and looked at the short table. He was hungry. He slept for too long and was both groggy and starving. They both got up, sat at the table and ate. It was a little cold but still better than nothing. Joseph already ate so he only took a few bites then spoke: now that you''re up you can get dressed and I''ll take you town. I''ll show you the best places for work. You can save until you have enough for new clothes. You should also make enough for a new cane. I doubt you''ll be able to get the old one back anytime soon. Tyler ate as he listened. This kid was really on top of things. Not only offering a place to stay but also setting him up to get back on his feet. Tyler thought that if he wasn''t so difficult to get along with he might even be considered a really good person. When Joseph finished he asked: shouldn''t we get a cane first. Otherwise how will I work? Joseph: Maybe so, but you don''t have enough money. It''s better to just find a job where you can sit down. Then I''ll bring you back here. Canes can be expensive. It''s better to save the money first. Tyler questioned him: Are you willing to let me stay here then? Won''t we get in trouble if I''m caught? Joseph looked down at the table hiding the look in his eyes and said: you don''t have to worry about that. There''s so many kids here and the adults are usually easy to avoid. Also you look quite similar to someone else here so they will probably assume that you''re that person. There was a clear disdain in his voice at the mention of the adults working there. He obviously didn''t get along with them. Tyler continued to question: But what about that person? Is this their room? When they come back won''t they want their room back? Joseph pulled a straight face and said: Even still. If that person comes back then they will help you as well. I know them quite well so I know that it''s fine. Tyler felt strange. It seemed as though he was missing something. Was he just lucky to find someone who wants to help? Was there something more to the story here? Where was this missing person and why was this kid so strange when he first saw me? Tyler wanted to know. But he also had things he didn''t mention so unless the other was willing to say on his own he wouldn''t ask. Tyler relented and stopped his questioning: Okay then. I thank you for taking me in. Where are my clothes from yesterday? This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road. If you spot it on Amazon, please report it. Joseph was relieved that the other didn''t ask any more questions. Joseph: They are being washed but I don''t think you should wear those to the jobs. I''ll find something else so just finish eating. After saying this Joseph got up. He remembered what he just said and thought to himself: That''s right, if Taylor were here he would help. Even if this person looked strangely similar to him, it''s not him and couldn''t replace him. Thinking this Joseph finally decided to let Tyler wear Taylors clothes. They would fit better and the two should look neat when doing their jobs. Tyler finished eating and went to clean up. When he changed, he noticed how these clothes fit a lot better than the other ones. He thought about it and decided it was better he didn''t ask who these belong to. He tied up his hair and met Joseph to leave. His shoes were also different yet they fit almost perfectly. Tyler refused to think about it. Stranger things have happened. He was lucky the person he''s borrowing from was his size. That was it. Before opening the door Joseph said: I can''t go around carrying you all the time so you should get used to using my arm as support when you get tired. Tyler nodded. He paused for a moment then asked: what should I call you? Joseph didn''t understand and asked: How do you mean? Ever since they met they talked with ease using words like you and we and I. During their long walk home they would go from normal conversation to fighting to the silent treatment in a few sentences. At that time they both realized that they should only talk about the important things and keep personal thoughts to themselves. Tyler only said his name once in reference to being called something else. The chance for a proper introduction passed before they realized. Acknowledging their mindless interactions the two of them were speechless. Joseph recovered first: It''s Joseph. Just call me that. Tyler: Alright. My name is Tyler. Feel free to call me this. Feeling slightly awkward, the two went to town. It was a fifteen minute walk from the orphanage so during this time Joseph did most of the walking. After reaching town they took a break at a park then Joseph brought them to the different jobs. Most of the bosses recognized Joseph so it was a little easier getting Tyler situated. Recently the people have been a little worried about Joseph not coming around anymore. The last anyone saw him he was asking everyone if they''d seen Taylor. Everyone knew he was distressed but they didn''t know what to do. All they could do was keep a lookout for Taylor. The two of them were known for keeping to themselves so despite their worries no one really had the right to comfort the poor kid. Joseph however did not know this and could only assume that he was the only one looking. After that afternoon the adults were saying that they talked to Joseph recently and he''s doing work again. Not only that but the person with him looks to be Taylor. The people were relieved they could now stop looking for Taylor. Everything was back to normal. Joseph didn''t know about their sincerity towards his situation but he did know that because of him almost everyone knew that Taylor was missing. Even if they didn''t really care about his disappearance the news of his return was slowly getting out there. Joseph knew that his actions of showing Tyler around would mean that Taylors missing case would officially end. If they saw Taylor alive and well they would stop looking. But Joseph let him be seen anyway. He didn''t care because he knew that they wouldn''t find Taylor. Ever since he disappeared Joseph had a dark feeling. He wanted to believe that Taylor was alive somewhere but stuck and couldn''t get back. But if that wasn''t the case then what should he do then? If someone had done something to Taylor how would he know? When he met Tyler he knew that this was his last chance. Even if it meant admitting that he might not find Taylor alive. He was his last bet to find Taylor at all. Joseph was using Tyler. He stuck with him and helped him get back on his feet and despite the usual back and forth they got along well. But he was only using him. Under the assumption that someone knows what happened to Taylor and is keeping their mouths shut. That he didn''t leave but was taken. He wanted to let whoever took Taylor think that he was fine. Tyler was bait. He knew that by doing so he was putting Tyler''s life on the line but he had already lost the most important thing in his life. He no longer had the heart to care about others. Especially not some copycat he barely got along with. Even still he stuck by Tyler and never left him alone for more than a few minutes. If anyone tried to talk to him he''d intervene. He was constantly watching for suspicious people while also creating opportunities for the perpetrators to act. It was a cruel thing to do and he knew that Tyler was innocent. Tyler was suspicious enough in his own regard so he refused to feel bad about his actions. The coincidence of his arrival was too great to not try something. Especially if it meant finding Taylor. So Joseph set his plan in motion and waited patiently. Twenty-third of May. Joseph and Tyler had already been living and working with each other for almost a week. Whenever they were free they picked up a new job. Saving their money together they ate meals at the orphanage. They went to bed when they were tired and woke up late the next day. Following this simple schedule and repeating it daily. Tyler was happy to be making money and couldn''t wait to get stuff of his own. He and Joseph were together almost all of the time. Yet for some reason when they talk it often results in insulting each other in some way. They often relied on each other for work but other than that they were never on the same page. Tyler couldn''t understand it. He didn''t know if it was a good thing or a bad thing. Their bickering almost made him feel like they were closer than they were. Being able to mess with each other without hating each other seems like something that would take years to cultivate. But they could do it. It was probably because both of them had put up this invisible wall. So either of them could walk away at any moment without any hard feelings. They could compliment when deserved and insult when tested. There was no need for apologies between them. But that only meant that they didn''t know each other well enough for any insult to do any actual damage. They talked a lot but they didn''t know anything about each other. The more Tyler thought about it the more he preferred the way things are now. As opposed to any regular friendship. He was content with continuing as is but that didn''t mean he was oblivious. He could tell that Joseph had hidden motives. It was clear that there was something heavy in his heart and it won''t leave until he accomplishes his goal. Tyler knew but he didn''t care. He liked that neither of them asked any questions. To him the more questions someone asks the more he has to lie. Thus deepening the rift between them. Both Tyler and Joseph had secrets and neither of them hid that fact. It was the one truth they were willing to admit. They were smart enough to know that by asking questions they would be exposing themselves to be questioned as well. So they acted like nothing was wrong. But it was the waiting that got to Tyler. The days kept passing by and he learned that he liked being with someone who was just like himself. But the longer it went on the more he felt that it would end soon. He didn''t know what he was waiting for so it was easy to tuck the thoughts away. But they never disappeared. Just lingering at the back of his mind constantly reminding him not to get too attached. Today could be the last day. Last Day It was a Thursday. With Friday being the last day before the weekend the plan had to happen tomorrow. Joseph had brought Tyler around everywhere Taylor might have gone. The only place left was the school. This was also the riskiest. It was easy to lose sight of someone in the crowd. It was the last place he wanted to try but it was the only option left. Tyler and Joseph were out by a park eating lunch. They had been working all week and just finished an early to late morning job. Tyler was sitting on a bench waving around a stick. He was playing with a small white dog that seemed to join them at some point. Stumbling upon it a few days ago he gave it something to eat. Since then it would find them around town and follow them on breaks. Barely eating and not saying anything Joseph was sitting there in a daze. Tyler found that he had been getting more and more distracted lately. He was getting quieter and became even more difficult to talk to than before. Finally speaking up Joseph suggested that they check out the school since he hasn''t gone in a week. Tyler doubted that missing a week was enough to make Joseph check in. There must be some other reason. Tyler easily noticed that it had been getting harder for Joseph to keep his emotions in check. He figured that whatever it was that Joseph was working on was coming to an end and was probably stressing him out. Joseph was worried and reluctant to follow through but he wouldn''t budge on his resolve. Even if he didn''t want to, he had to do it. He was easy to read but Tyler played ignorant anyway. Tyler agreed with his suggestion: We can. But first I want to go shopping. I finally have enough for clothes and a new cane. Can you take me to some shops? Joseph was quiet for a moment then agreed. A few dreadful thoughts crossed his mind. He wondered if this would be their last peaceful outing. He knew that even if all goes well and he finds Taylor and Tyler remains safe knowing that he used him in such a way Tyler would probably despise him. With this thought the two finished eating and got up to leave. The two went to the shopping district and went to a few different clothing stores. Joseph also had some money saved so the money earned this week was pooled together with Tyler''s. Even still Joseph continued to use some of his personal earnings to help buy the things Tyler seemed to like. Tyler couldn''t stop him and guessed that it was probably his guilty conscience. After that he was worried that Joseph would spend all his money so he was more careful about eyeing too many items. They stopped by the uniform store connected with the school. Joseph said that he could simply use his friend''s uniform but Tyler immediately refused. He had his own style. His own likes and interests. Outwardly he told Joseph that he wanted to match his purchases with his own custom uniform and get a matching bag to replace his old one. But inwardly he thought it would be better to distance himself from the mystery friend as much as possible in Joseph''s mind. After checking out a few more shops Tyler finally had his own shoes and clothes. For the first time since he got here his personal preferences were finally shown with his choices. They picked out a cane design at noon and picked up the finished product that evening. They ate dinner in town and then Joseph carried Tyler home. Tyler found that Joseph''s mood was a little better after distracting him with their day out. He was walking slowly and they talked as they went. Tyler: You know I have a cane now, you don''t actually have to carry me. Joseph: Cane or not it''s already getting dark it''s faster to just carry. Tyler agreed with his response but still felt like messing with him sighing: But you move so slowly. Even without a cane I could probably keep up. Joseph could hear the mischievous smile in his voice. He rolled his eyes but a faint smile crept on his face as he spoke: Yeah yeah. Whatever. It was quiet. They were on a straight path through the field with the forest on every side in the distance. The sun had already set and only the crickets could be heard. The path was dimly lit with lights along the fence beside them. After a while Joseph spoke hesitating slightly: Tomorrow when we go to the school don''t go getting lost or something okay? Tyler gave a small hum in response. Joseph: I''m serious. Don''t go wandering off and if someone wants to talk to you let me know first. Stranger danger and all that.Stolen from its rightful place, this narrative is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings. Tyler responded the same. It was late spring and the days were getting warmer. After a warm day out the cool night breeze was very relaxing. Joseph tends to walk a very steady pace without huffing and puffing from the extra weight. With stable and consistent breathing and steps Tyler felt like he could fall asleep right here if he wanted to. It was dark out but the moonlight lit the path just enough for a walk. He loved this. Everything right now was good. To forget about everything else and let now go on forever. That''s what he wanted even just for a moment. Before he just accepted things as they were. Joseph and him met and lived in peace but eventually they would part ways. He knew that nothing lasts forever and this couldn''t last either. But now at this moment he really didn''t want to let go. All the information he had been collecting over the last week. Every clue he found and whispers he heard. The looks people gave him and Joseph''s interactions with both those around them and himself. He had purposely forgotten and ignored it all but now he brought it all back. He remembered everything from the moment he met Joseph. He pieced together everything he could. His brain was in overdrive but he had already made his decision. I can''t let it end tomorrow. He was going to find the answer Joseph was looking for. It was the only chance he had to let this peaceful life continue. If he can solve the problem in Joseph''s heart then maybe nothing has to end. Noticing that Tyler''s grip tightened slightly Joseph asked: What''s wrong? Tyler cleared his thoughts and strengthened his resolve speaking somewhat quietly: Listen carefully okay cause I''ll only say this once so you have to remember. When everything is over and done with and your heart is finally settled. You can come find me, no matter how far away I seem, and give this to me. That way things can continue. As Tyler spoke he pulled a dark cylinder the width and length of an umbrella handle. It was black and covered with really faint lines creating a pattern too difficult to make out. He put it in Joseph''s hand saying: Don''t lose this. It''s as important as my life. Without it I''m as good as dead. Joseph didn''t understand what Tyler was talking about. The joking tone from before was replaced with a serious one. The first words were confusing but made him tense for some reason. When Tyler handed him the item he was even more confused but took it anyway. Hearing that this item was as important as his life he subconsciously tightened his grip. He had seen Tyler with it before but he never asked about it. Yet now he was saying that it''s important and gave it to him to take care of. He didn''t dare act reckless with it. After making it back to the room they cleaned up and went to bed. Tyler fell asleep thinking intently about something. After that strange but of seriousness he was back to his usual quirky self poking fun at Joseph''s every move. It wasn''t until he went to bed that Joseph remembered his strange demeanor from earlier. He pushed his confusion aside and was back to his stressful thoughts from before. Joseph lay awake for a while thinking about his own plan. Over the week he has been selectively letting everyone talk to or see Tyler at least once as Taylor. He watched each and every one of their reactions. Everyone so far has been checked out. The only few left unchecked were at the school. Tomorrow would be the last day to decide whether Taylors disappearance was truly caused by someone else. If the perpetrator sees Tyler how will they react? Even if they can hide their surprise they won''t be able to contain their curiosity. They will be forced to make contact. When they do he would either catch them in the act or confront them himself. Joseph had decided early on that if he found the person who took Tyler but couldn''t prove it to the authorities he would deal with them himself. He didn''t care about the consequences; he already lost everything. If there really was such a situation then nothing would bring Taylor back. Even if he died trying he would get revenge on the person. He wouldn''t mind joining Tyler afterwards if it meant that he got revenge. He made up his mind and he wasn''t changing it for anything. Or anyone. Twenty-fourth of May. It was Friday morning. Tyler and Joseph woke up earlier than usual to get to school on time. They ate breakfast and put on their uniforms and headed out. Joseph was extremely serious the whole time and would constantly remind Tyler of the schedule so they wouldn''t get separated. The closer they got to the crowds of kids heading into the building the more protective Joseph got. This would all have been pointless if they lost sight of each other. Tyler went in under Taylors name and went to each of their classes. Joseph did his best to keep a clear distance between them and any of the adults. He had considered earlier on whether Taylor''s disappearance could involve a student but he felt that the chances of Taylor getting involved with anyone their age was unlikely. For him to keep it to himself he probably didn''t want Joseph involved. If it was a simple dispute between him and another kid their age he could easily handle himself. Taylor only ever played it really safe when something involved the adults as he didn''t trust them. And for good reason. Joseph didn''t care for the adults but he didn''t have that same level of distrust that Taylor had. After the last few weeks however his distrust was probably even worse than Taylors. Nobody took Taylors disappearance seriously. Whenever he thought of this Joseph''s heart ached. He thought how could these people take on the job of teaching and protecting us but care so little. It made him a little sad but mostly angry. It was Taylor who taught him to take care of himself. No need to involve those who didn''t care. He used to often say things like: We can''t spend all our energy hating them. We can only try to do better. Nearing the end of the day Joseph started to wonder. He had Tyler be seen by all of their regular teachers. There were only a few left that they almost never ran into. Would Taylor have really talked to an unknown adult alone? What would make him take such a risk without telling him first? Joseph had been spacing out and during the last bell as everyone was either rushing home or starting after school activities he and Tyler were separated. Only when he was clear of the crowd did he notice Tylers disappearance. Joseph immediately started to panic. He quickly found a high place to stand and scoured the crowd. He couldn''t see him. Joseph followed the crowd and looked around everywhere. He still didn''t see him. By this point he could no longer control his breathing. Frantically he called out many times yet there was no response. He started to run around all over the school. Going to every classroom and checking every bathroom. He looked in storage rooms and even the teachers lounge. There was nothing. He looked around outside and checked every building nearby. By this point the students had mostly left. More than half of the teachers were already gone as well. He was alone. Tyler was gone. And so was Taylor. Had he left or was he taken? Was he hurt? If he looked for help right now would anyone do anything? Joseph checked everywhere once again then ran to check the dorm. Maybe Tyler had gone home after being separated? Joseph ran up the stairs and headed straight for the room. He remembered that first time they met. Back then he had forgotten about him and at the time was surprised to find him asleep on a chair by the window. Joseph opened the door hoping to see that same silhouette waiting for him by the window. He looked around checking the corners and bathroom then walked back to the main room. The room was empty. He was gone. Taylor All of Tyler''s belongings could fit into one bag. It sat neatly in a corner of the room untouched. He wasn''t here. If Tyler had left on his own he would have taken his stuff. Joseph sat down on the bed dazed. Something bad happened, didn''t it? Was Tyler in danger right now? If he continued to search around would he find him? If he waited here for him would he come back? Countless thoughts and questions flooded his mind. This was his fault. He didn''t want to lose Tyler. When Taylor disappeared he didn''t immediately go looking for him. Joseph often thought that that was probably why the trail went cold. But this time was different. He had a place of origin at the school. It hasn''t been that long and if someone took him before he finished searching the school it would have to be someone with a vehicle. Someone with a vehicle in the area who could take him without being seen. Something could only have happened in the teachers parking lot. It was around the back hidden behind a row of trees. All the teachers leave at different times so it wouldn''t be impossible to get Tyler to their car unnoticed. As for who it was. Joseph steadied his breath and focused his mind. He grabbed a piece of paper and a pencil and wrote down the potential suspects. He had already checked most of them at the school. There weren''t many left; he needed only to check them one by one. His mind was finally clear. As of now had a set goal to get Tyler back safely. Whatever grudge before had been put on hold. Even if he failed to get revenge he needed to get Tyler back. Joseph knew he screwed up; he should never have used an innocent person as bait. Resemblance or not Tyler didn''t owe him anything. He hadn''t done a single thing wrong since they met. He was clouded by hatred and made a terrible mistake because of it. Joseph knew that Tyler didn''t deserve this so even if he had to beg on his knees he would give up his pride to get the police to look into every person on this list. He didn''t have the time to do this alone. No amount of his pride was worth Tyler''s life. Joseph resigned to tell them everything. He wouldn''t let anyone ignore Tyler like they did Taylor. As soon as he completed the list Joseph ran to town and found the police station. Praying in his heart that he wouldn''t let Tyler down. Tyler was in an unfamiliar cabin. It was surrounded by forest with too much distance between it and town. He couldn''t run or call for help if he tried. Even so he wasn''t scared in the slightest. He was calm with no change in his usual expression. Earlier at the school Tyler was walking with Joseph. It was the end of the school day and the bell was about to ring. He noticed how distracted Joseph was and decisively chose to keep quiet. As he looked around he saw a man standing at the end of the hall. The man looked at him with an indescribable expression. This was one of the few teachers Joseph had yet to check. Tyler met his gaze and gave a soft, kind hearted smile. The same kind you would give when recognizing an old friend. The teacher''s face twitched but as the last bell rang he quickly fixed to his usual expression. He raised a hand to gesture Tyler over. It was casual as a teacher calling a student over. As the students pooled together Tyler took the opportunity to slip into the crowd letting Joseph be dragged away. He purposefully kept himself out of sight and followed the older gentleman away. As they made it to a secluded area the teacher started to talk like normal. It was simple small talk and Tyler responded with a friendly tone. He was relaxed and his guard was completely down. The man was obviously testing him and Tyler let him do what he wanted. He suggested that Tyler followed him to his car. It seemed friendly but the underlying tone was threatening as hell. He wasn''t giving Tyler an option rather a demand. With nobody else around he couldn''t say no but he wasn''t planning to in the first place. The teacher drove them far out into the forest after which they walked another distance to the cabin. The teacher watched him closely the whole time. Tyler felt like he was trying to burn a hole through him with his eyes. When they got to the cabin Tyler was tired so he sat down at a table as soon as he entered. The teacher''s first move was to go around locking all the doors. This place was built like a fortress. Less about keeping others out but keeping people in. He talked while he did so, asking questions more and more personal. Every question was riddled with traps just waiting for Tyler to slip up somewhere. Tyler answered patiently, not caring to match his own answers to that of Taylor''s life. When the teacher wasn''t looking Tyler swiftly took an earring out of his pocket and hung it on his ear. It was a black thin rectangle shape with faded patterns too difficult to discern. It was hidden behind his hair and almost unnoticeable. The teacher came back and sat across from him. He had taken Tylers bag and shoes making it difficult for him to move through the forest. By this point there was really no point in hiding the obviously increasingly dangerous situation.Love this story? Find the genuine version on the author''s preferred platform and support their work! The teacher stopped the useless traps and said in a low voice: You''re not Taylor are you? His eyes were dangerous like a predator spotting his prey. He asked the question but it was more a statement. He already knew the truth. What he didn''t know was why this lookalike appeared at such a time and even approached him so willingly. This terrifying aura that''s usually well hidden was no longer concealed. Any normal person would probably be scared speechless at this scenario but Tyler didn''t look scared in the slightest. He answered truthfully: That''s correct, I''m not Taylor. My name is Shields. Tyler Bain Shields. I don''t know who you are but I know you made Taylor disappear. The teacher narrowed his eyes: Oh yeah and may I ask what it is that you doing here Mr shields? Why not go to the authorities? Isn''t it safer than using yourself as bait? Tyler gave a defeated look and sighed: What you''re thinking is right I don''t have proof. I followed you on a whim and I turned out to be correct. I''m completely defenseless and probably going to lose my life here. Since this is it, why don''t you help my curiosity and tell me how a kid as smart as Taylor met such an end. Teacher scoffed at his provoking fake reaction: You don''t exactly look like someone about to die. Is it that you''ve got an ace up your sleeve or are you simply that fearless? Tyler retorted: Suspicion is nothing. I can''t defend myself or get help. Since you''ve done this before you could probably make it like I was never even here. Maybe I''m fearless or maybe I''ve just accepted it. Either way my question remains the same: how could Taylor lose to you? The teacher was amused and laughed saying: I suppose you''re right, you will die here. It''s better to just accept it. You''re quite strange aren''t you. Since I''m in a good mood I''ll tell you. Tyler quit messing around and listened intently. He had previously done his best to put all the pieces together. He knew that Joseph''s friend was gone and he was worried. Tyler apparently looks so similar that he could take his place. Joseph brought him to many people and always watched for their reactions. He must have been searching for someone who knew something about Taylors disappearance. Unless he was testing them Joseph usually didn''t pay attention to the people around them. Tyler however always heard the whispers. They would say: Isn''t that Taylor? He looks a little different. Now that he''s back Joseph doesn''t have to worry anymore. Those two have always been smart. It''s obvious that Taylor could take care of himself he worried for nothing. That''s right he could always out talk any adult and was very cautious around others. A kid like that wouldn''t take a risk and disappear so suddenly. Tyler heard these words everywhere. He understood that with such a coincidence as their meeting it was obvious why Joseph was driven to doing such a thing. If it were anyone else they would probably be upset at being used for such a risky plan. But Tyler didn''t care about any of that. He just didn''t want Joseph to have any more regrets in his heart about going through with such a plan. So he did it himself. He tried his best to figure out what kind of person Taylor was. He didn''t think that being tricked by some creepy adult was in line with Taylors character. He came up with a few guesses and now wanted to confirm the truth. If he guessed correctly then that meant that he was right about Taylor. In which case this all might work out. First day of May. About a month ago Taylor had been doing jobs with Joseph to save up some more money. They wanted to buy some more interesting books they found recently. More often than not the two of them were found together. But every once in a while Taylor would head off to do some side project of his. It wasn''t well known to the adults but around the kids their age Taylor was known to take requests. Whenever someone had a question they needed the answer to they would trade with Taylor for it. He was smart and could figure things out with a little investigation. Most of the time it was finding missing items or giving advice on how to complete a task. The request range was basically unlimited. No matter how difficult or easy a situation was, Taylor could probably help one way or another. Taylor was smart but always cautious. He knew when to pass a task off to a professional and he never did anything that could result in injury. He could tell at a glance when someone was sketchy and always kept this in mind when meeting people. Everyone was kept farther than arm''s length. Everyone except for Joseph. He never took Joseph to the more menial time consuming requests. He didn''t like the idea of Joseph getting roped into anything potentially strange. He liked being the tough older brother coming home to the smiling younger brother. No matter how bad the outside world was he could always breathe peacefully with Joseph. He would never be like the adults. He would always strive to protect this person. To him that also meant eliminating all potential threats in advance. When Taylor was out doing errands he ran into a girl a little older than himself. She had a small white dog with her. It followed her around and didn''t make much noise. Taylors first thought was that Joseph would probably like to have seen such a cute dog. The girl walked up to him and asked if he was Taylor. He answered truthfully as kids his age weren''t much of a threat to him. She looked slightly hesitant about talking to him but inevitably bit her resolve and asked to request something. Taylor could easily read how important it was to her so he agreed to talk for a bit. After finding a quiet place to talk the girl spoke up: To be honest I don''t know if you can actually help. I only thought that if worse comes to worse I would probably want somebody to know. Maybe. She seemed to be trailing off as she spoke. Rambling slightly from nervousness. Taylor responded with a tone of patience: Even if I can''t help I can still give advice. Just be as clear as possible and I''ll answer after considering the problem. The girl gave a giant smile of relief and spoke: Thanks for listening at all. Taylor nodded and waited patiently for her to put her thoughts together. She then proceeded to tell him her situation. The Request The girl spoke: The thing is, I''m not from around here. I''m only staying with family for a bit then heading home. Every year I meet a friend here and we made plans to meet here again. After that she stopped sending messages. Once I made it here and went to the meeting place she never came. I sent her more messages but didn''t get any response. The more she spoke the more her voice shook. Anyone could tell that she''d been worrying about this for a while. The girl continued: I went to the meeting place everyday and I checked around town but not one saw her. Most people didn''t even know who she was. I went to the orphanage where she lived and asked around but none of the advisors would listen. They said that this happens all the time and that I shouldn''t be so worried. I went straight to the police but they said the same thing. I managed to get them to look a little bit but no one found anything so they stopped looking. I''m supposed to leave soon and no one is taking me seriously. My friend has never liked being away from home for too long and we always look forward to meeting. She wouldn''t have just run away randomly. Even if she had a reason to run and couldn''t tell me where she went she would have left me a message. That''s just the kind of person she is. The girl was already in tears by this point but she wiped them away and continued anyway: One of the last things we talked about was how she found a puppy and was looking forward to raising it. She knew she couldn''t take it to the orphanage so she found a place to keep it safe and feed it until she moved out and found another place to live. At one of the places I looked for her I found him. Now she''s gone, and I don''t know where she is, and this puppy is all alone, and I can''t take him with me. Taylor listened as she was starting to ramble and said in a comforting tone: It''s okay. You don''t have to worry about the puppy. I''ll find a way to take care of it after you''re gone. He paused to think for a moment then said: About your friend. They aren''t wrong, kids like us do go missing sometimes. However since she''s your friend I''m trusting your judgement that she isn''t that kind of person. I''ll continue to look around and find the answer you need. When are you leaving? If it''s too soon I''m not confident that I can get proper results in time. Hearing his relaxed confident tone the girl felt more at ease. She steadied herself and said: Thank you. I''m leaving too soon. I understand that I might never know what happened. But I couldn''t just forget about it. I love her too much to give up from just the words of some useless adults. She mentioned you once before so I took a chance to try to find you as a last resort. Just knowing that someone will still keep an eye out after I leave really means a lot. I''ll leave it to you but if it turns out that the truth is too dangerous I''d prefer it if you didn''t look into it. Taylor: Thank you for your consideration but I already know that this is a troubling situation. If it turns out darker than hoped I would have been glad to learn ahead of time. I would prefer it if the kids around me didn''t go missing suddenly. The girl nodded in agreement. As she calmed down she felt her head start to clear. She thought: if only all the adults were like this boy maybe she wouldn''t have been missing for so long. The two discussed how to make contact with each other. Taylor suggested that if he doesn''t respond in a month she should then go to the authorities again. It was a scary thought but she was the one asked and he had already agreed so they could only toughen their resolve and hope for the best. After sorting a few more details they made to leave. As they were about to part ways the girl could see the determined look in the boy''s eyes. She felt slightly relieved but also a little guilty. After all, there was a chance that they would never see each other again. She would be safe far away but he would be right in the line of fire. If something really did happen wouldn''t it have been her fault? Who even was he? Did he have someone that would be heartbroken by his disappearance? Is she by requesting this, cursing someone else to feel the same heartache that she currently felt? She thought these things but she couldn''t waver. This was her only chance to find out the truth. She didn''t have the heart to be kind. This story has been unlawfully obtained without the author''s consent. Report any appearances on Amazon. Taylor looked at her and as if reading her mind said: I have someone at home that I promised to take care of. Forget about me if I let this slide and something were to happen to him because of it I would never forgive myself. At that point no amount of revenge or justice would help. You want to find your person and I wish to protect mine. If something else were to happen because we turned a blind eye now we would be no different than the adults we loathe. I can tell just from talking to you. If you could have known in advance I know you''d have risked your life to protect your friend. What I''m doing is just that. The girl was speechless by his words. She then repeated them in her heart over and over again. He was right. If she''d been here she never would have let her friend go. She would have risked it all to keep her safe. But still. The girl smiled faintly: You''re right, I missed my chance. Even still I would have preferred that she not be left in the dark. I would hate to imagine her going crazy always wondering why I did what I did. Taylor thought for a moment. He knew what she was referring to. He found a piece of paper and a pencil and wrote for a minute then paused then wrote again. Once he finished he folded the paper and turned to the girl. Handing her the paper Taylor said: It would be better if you didn''t have to send this. The girl took the paper and held it like her life depended on it. They had already discussed a few plans of action and most involved keeping the information between themselves. This would be a letter to Taylors person left behind should something happen. The Girl agreed: I think so too. What is their name? Taylor tilted his head and gave a slight smile: His name is Joseph. He''s a little taller than me but he is younger. He has dark hair and is usually dressed in a uniform like this one. The girl listened to his description, not daring to miss a single detail. There was an obvious likeness in his tone. Just discussing them was enough to bring a smile to the usual calm face. Taylor continued: He''s like you. He puts all his heart into his relationships. But that also means his pain is greater. I''m confident that he''d also probably do whatever it takes to find me if I disappeared. Right now you''re hurt and it''ll only get worse before it gets better. If you have to find him you''ll be able to recognize that pain just by looking at him. The girl felt gloomy just thinking about it sighing: Alright. I only hope that we never need to meet. Taylor: If only it were that easy. After a few more words the two finally parted ways. The girl was forced to leave town the next day and Taylor got to work. He continued to live as normal with Joseph but whenever he was free he would look into the missing girl. She was right to ask Tyler. With his usual requests he truly was good at finding things. In less than a week he already picked up the missing friends trail. After two more days he had his suspicions on what happened. As he was closing his net he was confronted with a problem. If his goal was to remove the problem then he needed proof. The request was to find the girl''s friend. If he couldn''t get the police involved without evidence then he could only get rid of the problem himself. Doing so however would not only be dangerous with a low chance of success but also eliminates any chance of finding the missing girl. He needed the suspect to be questioned. Without the police he could only get the answers himself. He needed to talk one on one. To let himself get caught would be the most dangerous option. Not only would he be exposed but his chances of survival would have to be so low that the other is willing to talk. Taylor considered all other options. In the end choosing the one with the highest chance of getting the results he wanted. Getting the enemy dealt with and getting the enemy to talk. He mulled over his decision a hundred times. He then accepted his decision and created a plan. Taylor never told Joseph a word about his plan. He was a lot better than Joseph at keeping secrets. Even with his life and death plan getting closer to completion he never acted the slightest bit off. Only a few days before the planned day did he let his emotions show a little. He thought it would be better to get it out of his system now to give Joseph time to forget about it in case something happened. Sixth day of May. Today after finishing their usual jobs Taylor brought Joseph to a small makeshift dog house on the edge of town. Inside was a small white dog with two bowls of food and water. Joseph was surprised as he asked: Have you been feeding it? Taylor nodded: That''s right. I came across it a while ago and since I can''t bring it home I come by to check on it every once in a while. Joseph helped refill the water bowl he spoke: It''s really cute and it''s so quiet. Despite living outside it''s fur is still white and soft. I hope it continues to grow well. Taylor smiled: I do too. So make sure to check on it when I''m busy okay? Joseph nodded and the two spent their afternoon break with the puppy. That night on the way home Taylor figured this was his last chance. Taylor spoke: Hey Joey. I''ve been getting busier lately and I hope you know that I''d never forget about you and would never purposely leave you behind. Joseph stopped walking and laughed: Well that got serious. I know that already you tell me all the time. It''s us against the world. You don''t need to worry about me so much. You already taught me how to take care of myself. Just because you''re gone for a bit doesn''t mean I won''t survive. Taylor looked at his goofy smile. He really liked this smile too much: That''s true. It''s just that I''d be upset if something happened while I wasn''t around. For the first time Joseph felt like something was just slightly different with Taylors expression. But then he blinked and everything was back to normal. Feeling that something was off Joseph walked over and hugged him: You''re so short but your heart is way bigger than mine. Even if I can take care of myself, emotionally I''m better off seeing you every day. So don''t get so busy that you can''t keep protecting me. Got it? Taylor hugged him back and said: I''ll do my best. Where Joseph couldn''t see Taylors calm expression finally broke. At that moment he thought that if he didn''t hate turning a blind eye to others he would have been content with grabbing Joseph''s arm and running away as fast as possible. But he knew that running from danger wouldn''t work. The world is full of dangers. But he can handle this one dangerous person before he has the chance to hurt Joseph. To succeed in this would mean they get to stay safe and together. After a long hug Joseph let go but Taylor held on a few more moments. When he finally let go his expression was as still as ever so Joseph assumed he was feeling better and didn''t think much of it. They continued home as usual and went to bed. After two days Taylor parted ways with Joseph like normal and made his way towards his prey. The Wish Eighth day of May. It was late after school and Taylor walked into a teacher''s office. Talking with the teacher he asked a few questions about lessons and was given good advice and help with the school work. He asked a few regular school questions and was given regular answers. As time went on Taylor started asking more personal and seemingly random questions. As the conversation slowly switched from school work to interrogation the teacher started to get more suspicious. Realizing that there was something else going on the teacher answered each question carefully as he slowly walked towards the door. Checking outside he locked the door. Just as he did Taylor asked another question: In the last few years many kids from the orphanage have gone missing. Recently a girl went missing and you seem to be the last one who saw her. What do you think could have happened to her? The teacher paused in his step and turned away from the door: Kids at the orphanages run away all the time. I talked to a lot of different students. Much like yourself, most of the kids here don''t care much for the adults. Even if I met her I don''t see why she would have told me where she would have gone. Taylor: That''s true. But you know what I find interesting, it''s the same with at least three other kids who talked to you. I wonder why they all run away so abruptly without so much as a word after meeting you. The teacher smiled menacingly: I suppose they didn''t like me much. But it''s more likely they weren''t close to anyone worth mentioning it to. Taylor turned to look at the teacher: Well that''s one answer. Personally I doubt it. Teacher: Well, what do you think? Taylor gave a fake smile: I think that if the cops had a suspect then they would investigate the situation a little more. Then after they looked into them a bit they might find the answer they were looking for. Just as Taylor finished talking, a hand reached for his throat. He couldn''t dodge or call out as his vision darkened. He wasn''t worried; he knew exactly what his man was planning; he was simply playing along. When Taylor woke up he was in a house. Outside the windows were rows of trees. They were most likely a cabin. This was good because he planned for a cabin in the forest. Using the light outside to guess the time Taylor made an approximate estimate on how far away he was from town. From the pain in his throat he couldn''t have been unconscious for more than an hour. He wasn''t tied up so he freely walked around. Around the corner the teacher saw him and walked into the room. The teacher had an intrigued look: I must say I''m curious. You''re obviously smart yet instead of alerting the authorities you confront me defenseless. You must have had a reason. Taylor looked around at the bolted doors. His shoes had been taken to make it hard to run through the woods if he somehow made it out the door. He looked back at the teacher. The man was going through his bag but didn''t find any item that could help inside Taylors situation. Taylor spoke: I lied before. Even if I told my suspicions to the police it would only alert you. I needed to know where you took them. If the police knew that there''s a bunch of bodies hidden here they might even consider investigating. The teacher laughed: Well now you know. But how are you going to send them the message? Only pens and paper. Even this phone of yours is useless here. The teacher tossed the phone to Taylor. Catching the phone he clicked a few buttons and sure enough there was no signal. Taylor turned it off. Taylor spoke: I didn''t think it would work. But even still I''m here now so I succeeded in my goal. Teacher: But now you''ll die. And your stuff will be buried with you. Unless you truly believe that you''ll survive this? Taylor smiled: I have to try. As long as I find out where those kids are it will have been worth it. I suppose I just don''t like not knowing. This novel is published on a different platform. The teacher walked over to the back window and pointed. Taylor followed and looked out. The teacher spoke: Out back there. Around the back there''s a well. Passed that turn is where they are buried. There''s a flower garden on top. I''m sure you''ll like it there. Just as he finished speaking the teacher lunged towards Taylor. This time Taylor didn''t let him get close. Dodging and running towards the dining table. He grabbed his bag and swung towards the man chasing him. The teacher dodged and pulled out his knife. Taylor could only imagine how many lives that thing took. As Taylor stepped back the blade reached towards him. He used the bag in his hand as a shield. The knife plunged into the bag as its rough edges were caught inside. With the blade stuck a hand reached for Taylors throat. Backing into a coffee table he knocked over a vase. With the crash Taylor immediately ducked down and picked up a large shard of glass and stabbed towards the hand coming towards him. The teacher grunted in pain and retreated a step. Taylor ran towards the fireplace in the living room. The teacher, retrieving the knife, followed close behind. As the blade swung towards him Taylor turned and fell backwards. His arm had been cut but he didn''t call out in pain. Just as the teacher had the upper hand Taylor threw his hand forward tossing ash straight into the man''s eyes. As he stumbled backwards Taylor grabbed the fireplace poker and swung at the teacher''s head. Blood streamed down from the teacher''s face as he stumbled back into the couch. As he was falling Taylor hit him again in the same spot for good measure. Once he was out Taylor didn''t waste another second. He ran towards the door undid the locks and used the iron rod to pry open the bolts. He ran out of the cabin and into the woods. Taylor wasn''t wearing shoes and the sun was already almost gone. His feet were bleeding but he didn''t slow down. He knew how far away the town was and he had a head start. He had his proof but he wasn''t going to let his guard down. Not until he was safely at home. Taylor had run for five minutes when he rounded a tree and ran into someone. He stopped and took several steps back. The person was startled and asked: It''s getting late, why are you out here kid and where are your shoes? The man looked worried and confused. Taylor took another step back and the man took another step forward. Taylor looked the man up and down for a second. Damn it. This man looked too similar. It was getting too dark and Taylor didn''t have any more weapons. This person was too big and he was hurt. This was Taylors absolute worst case scenario. The monster had a partner. Escaped from the wolf and ran into a bear. Neither one moved. The sun was gone and the night forest was quiet. Taylor had been running at top speed to go the farthest distance and his feet were covered in cuts from the forest floor. He no longer had the speed to outrun this person. And fighting wasn''t an option. The second he''s within arm''s reach he''d be unable to struggle. Taylors eyes darkened. His chances of survival were now slim to none. He was still too far from anyone. But he wasn''t going to give up. He had to try for Joseph. He has always been smart so he knew it was pointless but even still he wasn''t willing to give up just yet. If he can''t fight he''ll run. He''ll run till he can''t anymore then hide. He''ll hide until his strength is back. Then he''ll run again. Taylor watched the man carefully and the second he blinked he ran away in the opposite direction. This would put him farther from town but it was his only option. The man chased after him. His concerned expression was replaced with an ugly look. Even though Taylor ran his fastest the man had caught up. His arm was grabbed from behind. The strength of the grip nearly broke it in one pull. He was caught. It was over but he didn''t stop struggling. He couldn''t because his life depended on it.Joseph, those girls and all those missing kids. How many lives have they ruined? How many futures did they snuff out? Taylor hated them and he hated the adults who let it get this far. Taylor was being dragged back to the cabin. Every negative emotion he kept hidden was finally shown on his face. He no longer had the energy to keep his mind clear. He didn''t stop struggling and he grabbed onto everything he could reach. He started to punch and kick the man to no avail. The more he flailed the tighter the grip on his arm was. It was agonising pain but didn''t let it stop him. Eventually Taylor picked up a rock. The second he had it in his hand he jumped up and smacked the man in the eye. It was dark and he was caught off guard. Taylors hand was only free a moment before he was grabbed again. He kept the rock in his hand and continued to hit the man with it. The cut on his hand from the glass shard was losing more and more blood. The man seemed to get annoyed and pulled Taylors arm and with a snap it fell limp. This time Taylor couldn''t help but yell through his clenched teeth. For a while he finally stopped struggling. Taylor was extremely tired and both his hand and arm cuts wouldn''t stop bleeding. He was sweating a lot and was very dizzy. His heart was racing and he tried to control his breathing. As the open door of the cabin came into view he saw a man standing in the door frame. It was the teacher he knocked out. His eyes were cold and he looked at Taylor almost mockingly. Taylors fury stirred up again as he pushed his pain aside to struggle again. He no longer had the rock and could only use his last good arm to attack. But his attacks were too weak. He was thrown into the house and hit his head on the floor. As he tried to get up he felt something bump his head and he fell again. His sight was hazy. He could hear the two speaking to each other. Everything sounded muffled. The teacher said a few words to him but he couldn''t understand. Taylor layed on the floor half unconscious. He stared at the ceiling above him as he felt something cold draw lines all over his body. His mind finally started thinking clearly again. He was probably being cut all over. He already lost so much blood. At this point they probably wanted to torture him for their troubles but Taylor had already lost all feeling in his body. He felt good knowing that they would never hear him beg for mercy or cry out in front of them. Taylor couldn''t help but think about his life up till now. He was only sixteen and his experiences outside of town weren''t great. He only ever felt happy when he was with Joseph. Joseph. He might cry about this. Thinking about this made Taylor feel more upset than dying. He thought to himself as the world around him faded from view and the warmth left his body. He wanted to apologize to Joseph. For how this turned out. For leaving him behind without a proper goodbye. He wanted to make a wish. Something in return for all the good he''s done all his life. All those requests in return for one final one of his own. He hoped that for Joseph''s sake someone else would take his place. So as to not leave him all alone. He loved him but since it''s come to this he would prefer that they aren''t reunited for a long time to come. Taylors thoughts and wishes faded into the unknown. Leaving only an empty shell behind. Mia and Joseph Twenty-fourth day of May. Tyler had now learned the truth behind his double. Apparently the young Taylor seemed to be quietly looking into the disappearance behind all the missing kids. Specifically focusing on the latest girl. He only let himself get caught and expected if not sincerely hoped to escape after getting what he needed. The teacher hadn''t found out what led up to Taylors sudden investigation and didn''t know anything about the girl who made the request. The teacher mocked Tyler: His actions were much like yours. It''s almost funny. Honestly you kids think you''re so smart. But one miscalculation and you''re dead. Tyler didn''t respond to his annoying remarks. Instead he was thinking about Taylor''s story. Taylor should have been smart and accounted for most outcomes. Someone like that would only have allowed himself to get caught if he knew his end goals would be accomplished. Tyler didn''t know the exact reason for Taylor''s death in the end. The teacher kept it pretty vague besides the fact that Taylor made it to the cabin and didn''t make it out. Other than that he mostly went on rambling about his apparent triumph over Taylor. Throwing in insults whenever he could. But Tyler knew that there was no world where Taylor didn''t account for that outcome. Otherwise he wouldn''t have risked it at all. Not with someone waiting for him. The teacher was growing restless and no longer had the patience to keep talking to himself. With Tyler''s blatant provocation the menacing aura surrounding him grew even more dangerous. Slowly getting up as he spoke the teacher continued: You know, that face of yours is just way too similar. That Taylor. I never got to see his face in agonising pain. I didn''t even hear him beg for his life or cry out with regret. It was truly regretful. But now that you''re here I suppose luck really is on my side. Tyler picked up on his words and knew he was out of time. Quickly scanning the room he retreated behind his chair as the teacher pulled out his knife. The door to the teacher''s back was shut but wasn''t bolted like the others. It seemed like the original lock was broken. Tyler clocked this but wasn''t planning on running. Even if he made it outside he would not be able to run all the way back to town. Also he was here for a reason and he hadn''t found what he was looking for quite yet. He could only stall. The teacher swung the blade at Tyler over and over without relenting. Tyler skillfully used his cane to defend every attack. The mere strength difference should have been enough to knock him back a little but Tyler didn''t move an inch. Instead he was constantly searching the room. Seeing him defending himself perfectly and still looking around only made the teacher more annoyed and aggressive. The attacks grew more fierce and quicker than before. In what seemed to be a moment of carelessness a strike finally landed. Tyler was knocked off balance and was swiftly hit with another strike to the head as he fell. As he tried to steady himself again the teacher kicked him, knocking him even lower to the ground. As he did, another man walked in the room. Tyler was still down and the two still standing started to talk. Tyler immediately guessed what Taylor couldn''t have defended against even if he accounted for the possibility. If this giant caught him after he was already exhausted he would have no chance. Still down Tyler raised his eyes slightly and saw under the couch next to him. His calm expression made a subtle change for a moment and he stuck his hand under the couch. Hidden behind his hair the pattern on his earring glowed faintly. Just then his ankle was grabbed and he was dragged back towards the table. Tyler, who still had his cane, twisted and swung violently towards the teacher. Hitting him on the head exactly over a small wound about two weeks old. As the teacher grunted in pain and staggered back Tyler swung again. This time his attack didn''t reach as it was caught by the other stranger. Snatching away Tylers only defense, the giant of a person helped the teacher back up to his feet. As he regained his senses the teacher grabbed Tyler who was once again trying to escape their reach. Being pulled back Tyler looked at the two of them and truly felt what Taylor was up against. Even if Taylor considered the possibility of escaping from one monster and running into another. Aside from hoping for the best, there was nothing to do to defend against this. Taylor was small and could only use the stuff around him to out think the teacher. Even if he succeeded and ran into the forest he wouldn''t have the means to do the same thing over again and against someone stronger. Taylor didn''t miscalculate, he just ran out of luck. After a few more moments of struggling Tyler could no longer escape their grasp. Back on the floor near the table the teacher had an gloating expression and spoke as he started to carve thin lines starting at Tyler''s legs: You know, this is exactly where that kid was when he died. I carved him up just like now.Stolen from its rightful place, this narrative is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings. Tyler was hurt but he didn''t show fear. He gritted his teeth and watched the two of them looking at them as though they were nothing but insects. As the time passed the teacher grew more and more furious as he was reminded of how Taylor also didn''t show fear. The slices grew more excessive and grew deeper as he lost his composure. It was excruciating but Tyler refused to back down. Just as the teacher was about to deal a killing blow in anger the brother stopped him. He pulled him aside and the two said a few words gesturing towards outside. Tyler couldn''t hear them as everything now sounded muffled. His body ached and he couldn''t move a muscle. He thought that would be it. Now it seems it''ll only get worse before it gets better. But he wasn''t worried. His plan was going well and he only needed to wait. As the two finished their discussion Tyler was carried outside. It was evening now and the sun would start to set within the next few hours. But the trees in the forest block both sunlight and sound. It was dark and gloomy and all round just a spooky place to be. The teacher had grabbed a long rope for the partner to tie Tyler up leaving him to hang from the tree. Tylers wrists were red from how tightly they were tied. The brothers pulled out a pack of throwing knives. It was easy to see what their gruesome plan was. Tyler closed his eyes and took a breath. When he opened his eyes again he looked directly into the others eyes. It was as if he were provoking them to do their worst. The brothers were determined to not make the same mistake twice. No matter what this one had to go out suffering. Tyler let them do what they wanted. He already got what he was looking for. From where he was Tyler could just barely see the path in front of the cabin. He stared in that direction and waited. Joseph had run straight to the police office. He asked for someone who can help investigate the names on his list. Refusing to leave, he continued to say that someone was in immediate trouble. He was eventually brought to the side where a few officers tried to calm him down. They wanted to help look but to randomly investigate the names on the list without reason wasn''t something they could do. Joseph knew that just looking around wouldn''t be enough. Launching some new investigation wouldn''t be the right move here. They didn''t have time to start at square one. The person had to be someone on the list. And they had Tyler right now. But he didn''t have enough to prove it. Only that his friend was with him then got separated. Since they were at least listening to him Joseph tried his best to explain what he knew. Someone looking similar to Taylor had been taken. He rambled on about how it was important Tyler doesn''t meet the same fate. He explained where he disappeared and the places he already searched. Saying that Tyler had a bad leg so he couldn''t have disappeared so suddenly unless someone took him. The more he tried to explain the more jumbled his words got. The officers looked at eachother helplessly. They honestly weren''t used to this kind of situation. It wasn''t a small town but most of the people acted like it was behaving like nothing tragic could ever happen here. But this kid was stating otherwise. If there really have been two kidnappings and a kid could still be saved shouldn''t they try to do something? They sent someone to find a higher up who could authorize a search party. Joseph could see that they were willing to search but if they found him a step too late then what would have been the point? He continued to try to get them to focus on the list. At the front door of the station a girl rushed in. She immediately went to the front desk saying that she needed to talk to someone important. Girl: I have some information about a boy who might have disappeared over two weeks ago. The front desk and side room weren''t far from each other. Both the girl and Joseph could faintly hear the others'' words. They both paused and looked over at each other. Mia looked at the boy and couldn''t help but remember how Taylor had described Joseph. Joseph had been on his knees begging the officers to focus on the people on the list. His eyes were close to tears and there was a helpless tone in his voice. When Mia met his eyes she immediately felt a sense of familiarity. She had seen that pain every time she looked in the mirror for over a month. Ever since her friend disappeared without a trace. She couldn''t help but stutter slightly: Are you.. Joseph? Joseph had never met this girl and could only assume that she had talked to Taylor before he vanished. A slight trace of hope flashed through his mind. Did she know something? Could she help? As they both opened their mouths to talk, a short ring came from Mia''s pocket. She flinched and quickly found her phone and opened it. There were new messages with a video recording attached. As she read the message a glimpse of joy appeared on her face. She then clicked on the video and it immediately disappeared and was replaced by horror and extreme grief. She fell to the floor staring at her phone. Tears started to form in her eyes but they never fell. She had already cried too much. Mia looked up at the boy and her face said it all. I see. Joseph thought: Taylor really is dead. A higher ranked officer saw this exchange as he walked in. He already heard the gist of the situation and walked straight towards the both of them taking the paper then the cell phone. He read the messages and compared them to the names on the list. One match. As he watched the video his eyebrows became more and more furrowed. He turned to the other officers and spoke clearly: Get every active officer on this. Get me every possible piece of information on this man. I want to know exactly where this kid is within the hour! There was anger in his voice with a hint of regret. Everyone in the room could tell that this was really important and that they screwed up. They now had real time evidence and more appeared as they researched. The more they investigated the more disgusted they were. They had to find this guy. Not just one kid but countless others had fallen prey to this monster. Just how long would they let this guy roam free? This was the biggest mistake in every one of their careers. After finally pinpointing Tyler''s location a large group of officers set off. On the way each and every one of them made a silent vow to never ignore someone''s voice again. This regret would eat away at them for the rest of their lives. They refused to never be in such a situation again. The chief was going to suggest that the two kids stay behind but after seeing the look in their eyes he swallowed his words. After everything they''ve gone through us cops have no right to keep them from seeing this through. On the way they rode in the chief''s car and each gave their point of view on the events up until now. He never spoke up and let them speak without judgement. He had no right to scold these kids when it was the adults around them and the cops that drove them to the edge. The chief listened intently, not daring to miss a single detail. First Letter Tyler had been hanging for almost an hour. No matter what the brothers threw at him he didn''t cry out or show a hint of fear. The two were both furious and a little shocked. He was bleeding so much he probably couldn''t take anymore whether it hurt or not. At this point they wanted to end it quickly. It was the teacher who picked up a small axe and handed it to the partner. Tyler knew that this was it. The man lifted his arm back, brought it forward quickly, and released the axe, sending it flying straight towards his chest. Tyler didn''t blink. He choked and coughed blood. He was dizzy and couldn''t breathe properly anymore. He was suffocating as the last of his senses went out. Right as everything blurred Tyler looked up towards that forest path. There was a slight hint of blue in the surrounding green. From all directions there were footsteps growing louder as they closed in. Tyler however couldn''t see or hear anything else. His pulse had already stopped. When the brothers realized what was happening it was too late. They never expected this place to be found so they were unprepared and immediately detained before they could escape. Eyes wider than ever before the teacher looked at the boy who he had just killed. His face had been calm the whole time and now his mouth was curved upwards in a way that was just barely noticeable. It was like he was staring directly into his soul and laughing at him mockingly. It was as if to say he lost before he even began. The teacher immediately lost it from this humiliation and started to flail around yelling and shouting nonsense. He cursed these two kids who beat him. The cops had forcefully held him down. His partner was a lot quieter. He didn''t understand why it turned out like this. There shouldn''t have been anything that could leak their location so what happened? As they were taken away an officer exiting the cabin called out: I found it under the couch. The angle matches. Also there''s a new recording that was still on when I found it. The brothers saw the phone in the corner of their eyes as they were dragged away. The partner furrowed his brows in distaste but kept silent. The teacher also recognized the phone. He had tossed it back to Taylor to prove that it didn''t work. Why did it suddenly send a message now? In his confusion he finally stopped yelling and only mumbled nonstop about how he was cursed from the beginning. The officers and paramedics got Tyler down but it was too late. He was still warm so anyone could tell that they were just a few minutes late. Nobody''s faces could conceal the regret in their hearts. They all lamented about this kid who suffered so greatly. A few officers came from around the back saying that they found the other bodies. Everyone immediately got to work. Joseph and Mia were told to stay away for the time being but after they saw the two men being taken away in cuffs they couldn''t wait any longer. They ran past the officers and saw the boy laying on the ground covered in a deep red. Mia already learned that this wasn''t Taylor but was still shocked when she saw his face. She remembered how Taylor looked in his video. Joseph didn''t say a word. He was too shocked. He had done his best to stop Tyler from disappearing the way Taylor did. But the result was the same. To the side the officers were removing the bodies from the flower garden. A lot were too decayed to recognize. Only the two newest still looked recognizable. Both Joseph and Mia looked over. They needed to see with their own eyes. The people they loved disappeared without a trace. What they wanted more than anything was the truth. To see them with their own eyes if they were really gone. They both went over to identify the bodies. The chief stayed with them the whole time. This happened under his watch. Shame such as this should be remembered for the rest of his life. He wouldn''t let any officers under him ever make this mistake again. The bodies were covered and lined up together. Joseph and Mia looked at the three in front of them. The cloth was moved and the tears they refused to shed all this time finally fell. They could see how many wounds they had. Pain could be felt just by looking at them. They had suffered alone. Neither Mia nor Joseph could do anything for them now. It was too late. They couldn''t even say goodbye. Both of them didn''t stop crying for hours. They eventually passed out in a spare room at the police office. They slept a long time. Neither of them had a decent sleep in a long time. The answers to their questions were finally found. After a month everything was finally over. Thirty-first day of May. Plenty of advisors were replaced and all the officers did everything in their power to review and solve every case properly, not allowing for any mistakes to happen ever again. The people in town had now learned the truth and we''re disgusted that such a thing happened so close to home. Everyone recognized their own faults in the matter and didn''t make a fuss blaming each other. Mia had stayed in town for the rest of the month going over any other details needed. She wanted to be there for her friend''s funeral as well as for the two boys who found the truth for her.Love this novel? Read it on Royal Road to ensure the author gets credit. Both Joseph and Mia were still depressed despite being prepared for the outcome. Neither one tried to console the other knowing it wouldn''t matter. No one but themselves could understand the things they were feeling right now. Instead they met up to talk about the people they lost. Mia went on to tell him about her experience with Taylor and told stories about her friend and her. Hearing the mention of a puppy Joseph recalled the one Taylor and Tyler would feed. Seeing the dog her friend wanted to raise still alive released some of her stress. Joseph also smiled a bit when he remembered how the dog would follow Tyler around. At the time he was so focused on finding Taylor he didn''t make the connection. Joseph would also tell Mia about how he and Taylor used to be. Mia remembered something and handed Joseph the letter that Taylor had made that day. He didn''t open it immediately and instead pulled out another letter addressed to him. Mia asked: Why don''t you open them? Joseph: This one''s from Taylor and this one''s from Tyler. At the time Joseph had thought that Tyler was dragged into his mess because of his own plan to use his resemblance to Taylor. Later after questioning the murderers the police discovered that wasn''t exactly the case. Which meant that both Tyler and Taylor had gone in knowing the risks and they both wrote him a letter beforehand. Mia questioned: You''re worried about why they might have done such a thing? Joseph shook his head: These are the last words sent to me from Taylor. This is most likely a letter saying goodbye or something. I just don''t know if I''ll be able to handle it. Mia: I see. To be honest I told him to write that. He said that people like us are the same. If given the chance we would have taken their place. When I think about her I just wish that we could have had a chance to say something more. I didn''t get that final message. If Taylor was right and we are the same then I think you should read it so we don''t have the same regrets. Joseph was quiet for a moment. Taylor was right, he and Mia were the same. He could tell since they first met. If Mia regrets not getting that final message then he would too. Joseph: Can you read them with me? Mia nodded and Joseph opened the letter. The two sat on the bench and read the letter quietly. After reading they paused and looked at eachother. Then for the first time in a long time they burst out laughing. Taylor wrote: Dear Joseph. I''m writing this because I''m doing something that might not work out. If so then Mia was instructed to give this to you. Personally I don''t prefer such an outcome. You seem strong but I know how much you hate being alone. First of all I should probably apologize for not telling you. I hope you aren''t too mad about that. Secondly just because I''m gone doesn''t mean I''m not watching so if I find out that you''ve thrown your life away because of this I''ll refuse to talk to you in the next life. You''re really smart and I know you like to find new things so don''t confine yourself to this place. If you''re worried then don''t be. I have a feeling that you''ll be able to have a good life even without me. I''ve done a lot of good in my life so I''ll use everyday to wish for you to meet someone like me who can help you. If such a day comes where I''m no longer around I know someone else will pop up. I know it isn''t like to be superstitious but I''m willing to do anything to protect you so thank me when such a person arrives. Now then to prove I''m watching. Mia, I''ve seen how strong you are. You might blame yourself a little but like I said before I''m doing this because I can. Please continue to live well and one day it''ll be your turn to protect someone else. Anything else doesn''t need to be said. If you regret not protecting me, protect someone else you two. P.S. I have a feeling that the dog will be just fine so you two can discuss how to raise it. Also I better be buried by that tree or I''m ignoring you for three more lifetimes. Got it!!! Joseph and Mia were both shocked at how perceptive Taylor was. Thinking about it made them laugh and made them cry a little. Being scolded from beyond the grave was really something. The most noticeable thing was that he didn''t say goodbye. It''s hard to say whether he forgot or simply didn''t care to. Knowing his personality the two wondered if he did it purposefully to keep them thinking he really was still there watching. Mia didn''t get a last note from her friend but reading this she felt that had she''d been given the opportunity her letter would have looked something like this. The shadows in both of their hearts faded a little. Joseph closed the letter and put it back. He held onto Tyler''s letter before opening it. Mia and Joseph both had doubts about Tyler. There were too many questions surrounding him. Joseph told Mia where and how he met Tyler. As they discussed his interactions the list of curious things grew. Who was this boy? Where did he come from? For him to look so much like Taylor and then appear after Taylor vanished. Why did he choose to risk his life to finish Taylors plan? Were the answers in this letter? Even the cops had some unexplained mysteries about the case. Taylor had left the phone hidden with messages and a recording set to send when the phone had a connection. It was a last resort for if he couldn''t escape with his life. He had already been in contact with Mia beforehand saying where he was going and who his suspect was. He even predicted whereabouts he might end up after being taken. If he didn''t return Mia would come back as soon as possible and give her phone to the police as a lead. It was possible that the police would find the cabin but not have enough evidence to find the bodies. This was why Taylor planted the phone under the couch after hitting record. He got the answer he wanted. He knew where the bodies were so he only needed to escape. When the police would find the phone they only would have needed to charge it and connect it to a signal for a clear recording of the man''s confession and the whereabouts of the corpses. When Taylor was instead caught and brought back to the cabin the place where he was killed was in clear view of the camera. If Mia couldn''t get back in time and the murderers found the phone first. Then the evidence Taylor lost his life to obtain would be lost. Tyler had gone in with no knowledge of Taylor''s original plans. He could only make assumptions on Taylors character. He didn''t know about Mia but he knew that Taylor wouldn''t have had no back up plan. He would have planned something in case of his death and Tyler only needed to find it. And then he found the phone. But what no one could understand is how he did it. Why did the phone turn on when it should have already died a week before Tyler arrived? And how did it connect to a nonexistent signal and even start a new recording creating more evidence? There wasn''t a clear answer no matter what they tried. The only person who knows how he did it is Tyler and Tyler could no longer answer anyone''s questions. Second letter Joseph and Mia were both curious about this person who didn''t even seem part of their world. Slowly opening the letter they prepared for even the most absurd answers. As they read, many different expressions appeared on their faces. When they finished the letter both were silent. Joseph seemed to have remembered something and ended up dragging Mia to their dorm then proceeded to run towards the place Tyler and Taylor''s bodies were buried. Tyler''s letter read as follows: Dear Joseph. We haven''t known each other long so this might seem strange but even still it''s my decision and right so deal with it. Tomorrow morning we will be heading to the school as planned. I''ve already learned of your situation and I understand that if something were to happen to me you would do your part to help. I know your goal is to find your friend. And that you''ve prepared for the worst. However I don''t believe that this is the outcome Taylor wanted. I think that eliminating the threat without the help of the police, like you''re doing now, is what he was trying to avoid. I know you loved Taylor and right now you''re driven by hate, but I don''t want to lose you just yet. I''m selfish like that. We still know nothing about each other. Against my better judgement I enjoyed our interactions. We had a ¡®no questions¡¯ understanding. But now I want you to ask. And I want to ask you things as well. Anyways, if I''m right then that Taylor of yours would have had a plan in place of his death. I have a few ideas and believe that it''s better if I confront the enemy alone. I hope I didn''t scare you too much. You hide it but I can see how kind hearted you are. If all works out you shouldn''t have anything else holding you back anymore. If that''s the case I wanted to invite you to continue traveling with me. Truth is what I do is dangerous. In fact the night you found me was a result of one of my many trips. But even so I''ve seen so much out there and I''ve never regretted a thing. Right now what I want more than anything is to explore with you. If you''d prefer to live your life here then feel free to keep that thing I gave you tucked away as a sort of momento. Since this might be the last chance I have I''ll say it directly. I liked getting along with you. And bickering with you. And how since the moment we met I haven''t been alone. Darker reality aside, the feeling of being protected and taken cared of was nice. You know better than anyone that I am not Taylor and I don''t want to be. You had better remember this fact if you choose to stay with me. That''s all I''ll say for now. I''ll only answer other questions if you choose to stay. If not then forget I ever existed. Funny enough Tyler also didn''t say goodbye. The two thought that the letter had ended rather abruptly. Every sentence seemed to be a mix of conflicting thoughts. Meaningful yet detached at the same time. One moment this letter meant the world to him and the next nothing at all. Like a simple no hard feelings goodbye note. And yet he wasn''t wrong. Joseph certainly had questions. Most were existentially questioning Tyler''s existence in the world for him to die trying to help them out of their small town troubles. But with them were the things he held back during their time together. And to travel with him. Of course he wanted to see the world. But Tyler was dead. Whatever he wrote before couldn''t have accounted for his death right? Tyler had never met Taylor but he trusted his judgement and completed Taylor''s plan and in doing so protected Joseph''s future. Now they both were gone. Why did Tyler write such a thing? It was as though he was unaffected by death. His only problem being whether or not Joseph would travel with him after the fact. Who was he really and how had he lived before arriving here? All the potential conversations they held themselves back from starting. Leaving only regret in their place. If things were different could they have been closer? Could they have actually gotten to know each other better? Taylor had written about his daily wish for help in case of disaster. Then Tyler appeared. If there was a chance, even a miniscule inhuman magical chance, that he could have a second chance with Tyler, he wanted it. Joseph remembered Tyler''s words from that night: When everything is over and done with and your heart is finally settled. You can come find me, no matter how far away I seem, and give this to me. That way things can continue. Yet his letter said to tuck it away if Joseph chose to part ways with him. His thoughts matched Tyler''s. He didn''t want to part ways. But right now Tyler was farther away then he could have imagined. Even so he followed through with their deal and ran to the dorm to find that dark cylinder and brought it straight to Tyler. This book was originally published on Royal Road. Check it out there for the real experience. Mia and Joseph looked at the two graves. They weren''t with the others in the cemetery. They were special and the town agreed to have them specially placed here side-by-side. Taylor was an orphan with no background and Joseph was the closest thing to family he had. And Tyler was even more mysterious. No one knew anything about his past or where he came from. Their headstones had only their first names and a plaque of remembrance. The townspeople would never forget what these two did and would never let something like this happen ever again. There were a few flowers around the area and it was in perfect view of the sunset. They would rest under the shade of the flower tree growing behind them. It was a place Taylor enjoyed when he was alive. _______ It was dark and quiet. Only endless void in every direction. Tyler was in a sitting position holding his knees to his chest. Suddenly there was someone beside him. When he looked over he saw himself. Only it was slightly wrong. This was Taylor. The two sat next to each other and the darkness faded slightly revealing the grass beneath them. They were each leaning against a stone slab with their names carved into them. There was a flower tree behind them with its petals falling around them. The dim lighting revealed a thin veil surrounding and separating the two. The scene was both beautiful and somber. The two simply looked at each other for a moment. Taylor was the first to speak up astonished: I can''t believe it worked. Tyler gave a puzzled look: What worked? Taylor responded: I died and someone ¡®like me¡¯ really showed up for Joseph. I''m shocked. Tyler sighed in disbelief: Strange right. I wish I could explain it to you but I truly just arrived at random. I suppose we''re linked. Taylor also sighed: Or maybe it was predestined to turn out like this. Either way it is too late to do anything differently. Tyler shook his head: It''s not over yet. If Joseph decides to travel with me we can continue. Taylor: He will. Although it''s troubling to imagine. Tyler: It is dangerous. Taylor questioned: Can''t he die if he follows you? Tyler retorted: Can''t he die anywhere? Taylor smirked: That''s true. Honestly I would prefer he go with you. He deserves so much more from the world. Tyler: So did you. Taylor: Maybe. Tyler: The world isn''t all that great but as long as you continue to look you have the opportunity to find things more beautiful and wonderful then anything you could ever imagine. Taylor: I hope so. If Joseph gets to see such wonders it will have been worth it. Tyler: Don''t you want to see them too? Taylor shook his head: Whether I want to or not no longer matters. I''m dead. Tyler: I want you to come with me. Tyler extended his hand through the veil and towards Taylor as he continued: I don''t understand why but we''re definitely connected. For whatever reason we can talk right now and I think that there''s meaning in that. This is a chance and if you agree then I''ll take you with me as well. Taylor raised his hand but was hesitant. He questioned: How would that even work? Tyler shrugged: I don''t know but at the very least you can see Joseph. You''ll always be watching over him. And through my eyes you two would be able to see the world together. Isn''t that worth something? Taylor stopped hesitating and grabbed Tyler''s hand: It''s worth everything. I''m dead anyway, at least I''ll get a good show. Their fingers interlocked and Tyler pulled him through the veil and over to his side. Taylor smiled and joked: I wonder if we were the same person in the last life? Tyler laughed in response: With everything so far I wouldn''t be surprised. Both Tyler and Taylor, the scenery around them, and the veil faded quietly into the darkness. ______ The sun was already setting as Joseph and Mia were looking at the graves. Mia was unsure of what was happening. She had also read the letter and from Joseph''s reaction she couldn''t help but wonder deep down if maybe something could actually happen. Not some past deal or momento but something truly miraculous. As standing there wasn''t doing anything Mia had an idea. Mia: Wait here for a minute okay? Mia ran down the hill. Joseph was confused but did as he was told. He also wasn''t sure what direction to take this in. When Mia came back she was holding a shovel. Mia: I don''t know what exactly is supposed to happen. But if you somehow use that thing to wake him up again it''s probably better that he isn''t six feet in the ground when you do it. Joseph agreed with her and the two of them took turns digging into the ground. The graves were far enough out and away from town that they wouldn''t be caught for their suspicious activity. When they reached the bottom the sky was already mostly dark. They both took a breath and looked at each other. They nodded at each other and lifted the lid of the casket. Inside was a patched up Tyler lying expressionless in his eternal sleep. Joseph just looked at him. He was still at a loss and didn''t know exactly what to do. He wasn''t even sure if something was supposed to happen. Seeing his hesitation Mia comforted: It''s fine to be worried. This whole thing is pretty confusing but if this works then at best you''ll have another chance. It''s worth it to try. She took out the item and handed it to Joseph. Joseph took a breath and calmed down. The two looked Tyler over and decided to just put it in his hands. Nothing happened. The two continued to wait expectantly, refusing to give up too soon. After a few more moments Mia gasped and pointed towards Tyler''s ear. There was a light. Joseph quickly moved Tyler''s hair and sure enough his earring had the same pattern as the object in his hands. Both objects glowed faintly and then slowly grew more bright. The same patterns on the objects started to appear all over Tyler''s skin. The scars covering his limbs started to heal and fade slightly. Mia who was barely able to contain her shock said quickly: Pulse check his pulse! And check for breathing! Joseph, who was dazed, snapped back and carefully took Tyler''s hand, closed his eyes and checked his wrist for a pulse. After a minute there was a thump. His eyes sprang open and he continued to check both his wrist and neck. There really was a pulse. Joseph put his ear to Tyler''s chest and then turned to Mia. Mia immediately knew what that meant and couldn''t contain her excitement. The two laughed and squealed then shushed each other only to start giggling again. Their actions made them seem delirious but given the current situation a little crazed enthusiasm seemed fitting. A moment later Tyler was breathing again. He started to cough and Joseph hurried to support his back as he sat up. After the coughing fit died down Tyler spoke with a slightly hoarse voice: Next time maybe don''t leave me in the ground for a week. Joseph paused then chuckled with tears in his eyes: Maybe if you''d left better more decisive instructions I wouldn''t have waited so long. Tyler pushed Joseph''s arm away: Shut up. You don''t know how it feels to die. Joseph smiled as he scooped him back into his arms and coaxed quietly: You''re right, I''m sorry. It''s my fault, please don''t be angry. I won''t let this happen again okay? Seeing as the other had no intention of letting him go Tyler stopped struggling: Whatever it''s over now so forget it. If you''ve chosen to stay with me you''ll have plenty of chances to make up for it. Seeing that they were okay Mia let out a sigh of relief. She helped pull Tyler out of the grave then Joseph and her took turns filling the hole again. Final Tyler got to talking with Mia a bit and learned of her part in everything. Tyler: I see. The two of you have been through a lot. I''m sorry to say that I''m the only exception here. I can''t bring your loved ones back. Mia shook her head: That''s fine. I figured as much. You being alive is a miracle enough. Now I understand why you were able to complete Taylors plan for him. That earring of yours you were wearing it when you found the phone right? A signal gadget of sorts? Tyler nodded: That''s right. I couldn''t explain how it works but I used it to power the phone on and gave it a signal. Mia sighed: I suppose the world is bigger than I thought. Tyler: That''s exactly right so don''t ever go thinking you''ve seen it all. If you''re curious then live well and explore whatever you want. Don''t ever let yourself regret anything ever again. Mia smiled: You really are similar to Taylor. We''ve only known each other for an hour and you''ve read me like a book. Joseph filled the last bit of the hole and the three chatted all the way back to town. Mia said that she would be heading back to her family house and leaving back home after a day or two. The three made plans to see eachother off when the time came. They said their goodbyes and parted ways. They all decided it was better if no one knew about Tyler so Joseph snuck him into the dorm though the usual route. Tyler: This feels familiar. Joseph had carried him the whole way on his back. Tyler: I think you''re better at this now. You haven''t tripped up once. Joseph heard a hint of a smile in his voice as he said this. This made him feel like things really were back to how they were before. Less how they were and more how they should have been. Joseph: Don''t tease me, I was doing my best. It was your fault for being too heavy. You''ve been out for so long that you''ve lost all your meat so it''s obviously easier now. Having the blame pushed back on him Tyler frowned. But that frown quickly faded back to a smile. He said nothing in response and only held Joseph''s neck tighter. Joseph: You''re mad so you''ve decided to suffocate me is that it? Tyler only squeezed tighter. Joseph laughed and relented: Alright alright you win. You''ve never been too heavy, I''ve just gotten a little stronger. Please have mercy. I''m going to need airflow if I want to keep breathing. As they reached the room Tyler finally released his arms. He was placed in the same chair as before and Joseph left to start the bath. Tyler looked around the room while he waited. All his things were still in the corner. Joseph returned and grabbed two sets of pajamas, placing them on the short table. Tyler watched Joseph as he did task after task. It was like the first time they met. But this was different. Back then Joseph was clouded with thoughts and questions about Taylor. He was upset and angry. He didn''t know how to comprehend Tyler''s appearance. It only fueled his confusion. But now it was like he had finally found at least some peace. Tyler made a point to say that he wasn''t just a replacement for Taylor. But right now he wondered if Joseph still saw him as such. Given the situation, asking such a thing would be far too cruel. Obviously he''ll think of Taylor when looking at him; they looked too similar. Tyler knew that his appearance wasn''t the only reason Joseph helped him that night so he didn''t mind. But he couldn''t stop the small bit of curiosity roaming his heart. In truth it really was just plain curiosity. Tyler really didn''t care how he was seen. He only wanted Joseph''s company. The only reason he made the clarification was to contain any future conflicts about the topic. Tyler had already accepted his connection with Taylor. Both Joseph and Taylor deserved the chance to see the world and Tyler could show them. At the very least Tyler owed the both of them the option. If Joseph hadn''t been out looking for Taylor that night he might have really died in that lake. Tyler couldn''t tell if the universe was kind or cruel. Whatever the case Tyler was still here and Joseph agreed to stay with him. This was already a good outcome. Thinking this Tyler locked up his curiosity and stayed silent as Joseph helped him. After cleaning up and soaking in the hot water Tyler''s limbs felt a lot better. Just like before Joseph left for food only he didn''t get caught this time. The two ate as they chatted. Joseph finished first and after thinking for a long time he spoke: You were dead before and that item brought you back. Tyler was still eating and hummed in response. Joseph: In your letter you said that if I didn''t want to leave with you I should tuck that thing away. Tyler hummed again. Joseph: Which means that if I didn''t agree you would have stayed dead. Tyler was silent. Joseph: You could have kept the item on you and saved yourself. Instead you put your life in my hands. Not only that but you didn''t leave anything telling me to save you, just a vague choice. Tyler continued poking at his food and didn''t look at Joseph. Joseph: Now I''ve got to ask, was it because you trusted me and thought that I would agree or was it that you weren''t planning on continuing without me? Joseph''s tone was serious. He had been wondering about this for a while. If he didn''t feel the same, if he didn''t try what seemed impossible to continue being with Tyler. Wouldn''t he have just died? Tyler could have left himself a way out. Then he could have asked him face to face so why didn''t he? Joseph: Look at me and answer me. Otherwise we can''t continue forward. Tyler froze slightly. He didn''t expect Joseph to bring it up so soon. Tyler looked up and said calmly: I would have been fine. I was just giving you the opportunity to choose on your own. Joseph watched his reaction as he answered. Ensure your favorite authors get the support they deserve. Read this novel on Royal Road. Joseph: I see. So if I hadn''t agreed you still could have left on your own right? Tyler: That''s correct. Joseph sighed: I see. It''s my own fault for thinking too much. I was worried is all. I still don''t know anything about you so I worried that you might have suffered a lot before coming here. Tyler looked down at his food. Joseph watched him carefully: I assumed that traveling alone even if the sights were wonderful might have made anyone lonely after a while. Not having anyone to talk to or share your experiences with. No one to ask for help. Tyler''s hand under the table tightened into a fist. Joseph continued to press: I was worried that you had finally had enough and figured death was better than continuing. That maybe the pain had finally out scored the rewards. If that were the case.. Tyler stopped him: I get it you can stop now. Tyler could no longer hide the pain in his eyes. He smiled self-mockingly: I wanted to see everything. But the world isn''t always kind. My luck''s no good and I tend to get into trouble whenever I''m alone. My last trip was as bad as many before it. But I would have continued for the small chance of seeing something incredible. That''s all I can do. While recuperating here you protected me. I couldn''t remember the last time I felt this safe. It made me think of the many times where I wouldn''t have suffered so much had someone been there with me. The idea of continuing on alone after this makes me feel so exhausted I can''t think straight. But when I thought about being with you it made me want to go on one more trip. Then maybe more after that. It wasn''t some difficult decision. I wasn''t just trusting you and I didn''t have another way out. I just wanted to sleep and if I was woken up by you I''d continue on. Tyler looked up at Joseph: I''m a coward. If you had declined me in person I might have brushed it off and continued on as usual. Just thinking about continuing like that makes me so sick to my stomach it''s painful. I didn''t want to chance it. For the first time Tyler wasn''t hiding his emotions. His expression clearly showed his distaste for his life as it is. Joseph expected that it was something like this. But hearing it straight from Tyler''s mouth pained him a bit more than he expected. Tyler spoke: Are you worried that you''ll hate traveling like I do? It really isn''t that bad. It''s my own fault I''ve gotten this bad. Joseph shook his head: That isn''t it. There''s clearly something worth it otherwise you wouldn''t have held on for so long. I just don''t want you to ever fake your emotions anymore. We can''t keep lying to each other. If that doesn''t change then we probably won''t make it very far. So if you hate being alone you should say so. If you''re tired you should say so. You should be honest about whatever you feel. Then when we finally find something worth it I''ll know just by looking at you. Tyler didn''t expect such a straightforward response; he didn''t know what to say. Joseph saw he was speechless and smiled: I''m being serious. Like you said before I''ve already chosen to live with you so I''d prefer if we could continue for as long as we can. Tyler couldn''t take Joseph''s determined gaze and looked away. Joseph continued to look at him. He wanted to learn more about this person. For him to have a good life and make up for whatever suffering drove him to this point. This boy might have looked similar to Taylor but he was different in so many ways. Joseph wanted to know what makes Tyler Tyler. Under the boy''s gaze Tylers ears were turning red. He was flustered and in a daze. Seeing him in a daze Joseph couldn''t help but tease. Joseph put on a concerned look: Oh my you''re turning red. Are you sick? You were dead not long ago. Should I be checking for a fever? He reached his hand out to touch the other''s forehead. Hearing that he was red only made Tyler even more embarrassed. Having his forehead touched he started to stammer: I''m not sick. I''m just.. just sort of.. Joseph pressed on: Just what? Why would you be this warm unless you were sick? Is there another reason? Tyler realized the two options were sick or embarrassed and closed his mouth. Joseph saw his realization and couldn''t help but smile. With this grin Tyler finally understood that he was being messed with. He smacked the hand away from his face and refused to talk anymore. Joseph laughed at the scene: Why are you pouting? I was just wondering if you were okay. Alright we won''t talk anymore it''s late. You''ve just gotten better so you should rest well. As he said this Joseph got up and picked up the pouting Tyler. Before he could react he was already carried to the bed and being tucked in. Tyler refused to look at him but Joseph didn''t mind. His attitude only made him smile. Joseph patted Tylers arm and spoke softly: I''m really glad that you''re back. I truly would have been at a loss without you. Sleep well and be here when I wake up okay? He didn''t give Tyler the chance to respond and layed down on the other bed. Tyler rolled over and looked at the person on the other bed. Joseph followed suit. After a few moments Tyler''s eyes began to close and he fell asleep. Joseph kept looking over as if he was worried that Tyler wouldn''t wake up this time. Continuously checking that the other was still breathing Joseph eventually fell asleep. Second day of June. After another two days of rest and recuperation Tyler Joseph and Mia made plans to set off. The three met at Taylor''s grave for a final goodbye. Tyler spoke: Will you be heading off today as well? Mia responded: That''s right. I still have a life back home to get back to. After finishing up a few personal responsibilities I''ve got the rest of my life to figure things out. Tyler: That''s good. I wish you luck. It was nice talking with you. Mia: I feel the same. It''s been a roller coaster but I''ll get through it. How about you two? I assume that you''ll both be leaving together. Joseph nodded: That''s absolutely correct. I''m finally leaving this place. That is if Tyler decides to show me how isn''t that right? Mia was confused: Well you have your things packed. There''s plenty of means of transportation. Is there something I don''t know yet? Joseph smiled: Well apparently the great Tyler here has a unique way of transportation. He has yet to explain what it is though. Mia laughed: Wow really? A mystical way perhaps? Tyler: You''ll see. I was just keeping it a surprise until we said goodbye to Mia. It''s sort of a one and done deal. No take backs. Now Joseph and Mia really were curious. They looked at each other both trying to imagine what Tyler had planned. Mia gestured to continue: Well now''s as good of a time as any. Come on magic boy do your thing. Joseph agreed: Yeah let''s do this. Tyler found their excitement and enthusiasm amusing. He felt he was able to explain with his heart at ease. Tyler: Alright then listen closely. This device of mine works solely for me. It has two main uses, one of which you''ve both seen. Both Joseph and Mia nodded in understanding. Mia: One click revive. Joseph: Healing spell. Their unique outlooks left Tyler momentarily stunned. Tyler: Well. Sure. It fixed me up but does not work on others so keep that in mind. Joseph nodded. Tyler: Its second main use is to open portals. It''s essentially able to open a door that can take you anywhere. And I mean anywhere which is why it can be occasionally dangerous. Mia and Joseph were expecting something unnatural and that''s exactly what they got. Joseph suddenly remembered the lake. Joseph gasped: Oh! When you first arrived you were in the lake. Did you.. Tyler nodded: That''s right. At the time I was quick to portal and was left with an even bigger problem on the other side. Mia spoke up: Wait. But if you end up in that situation, like with that lake, could you not have opened another portal? Could there be a time limit or something? Tyler shook his head: No there''s no real limit besides having to fully be through before opening another one. That time was actually my fault. Joseph: How do you mean? Tyler sighed: It requires a certain amount of concentration which I''m normally capable of. But I was already in the water and holding my breath when I opened the portal. So going through I was already at my limit without oxygen. The double drowning caused a break in my concentration. Tyler sighed again just remembering the whole thing. The other two were also shocked. Joseph remembered thinking that Tyler was unlucky to have fallen into the water with his bad leg. But now he realized that he was more than just unlucky. Mia sighed as well: Wow your luck must be horrendous. You haven''t killed anyone have you? Such bad karma is insane. Joseph was shocked Mia was able to say such a thing straight to his face. He was more amazed that she was able to say exactly what he was thinking. They really were far too similar. Only difference being Mia''s unafraid attitude. Tyler was unaffected: I find myself wondering the same thing. Anyway it''s for reasons like this that it would be easier to have a partner. I don''t always have the strength to help myself. In those cases having someone to help with I open the portal would definitely help. Joseph nodded: Agreed. So keep a cool head. Calm and collected. Got it. It was easy to see how determined Joseph was. Just by looking, anyone could tell that he wouldn''t be scared off now. Looking at the two of them made Mia smile. She felt like no matter what these two would be fine. Mia: Alright then enough hesitation. The two of you are only going to find a proper rhythm through experience. You can teach him the ropes along the way so go on now. Tyler could see her trying to push them along. She was right, just talking about it wasn''t enough. He needed to stop worrying and trust their abilities and judgment. He wouldn''t have asked Joseph if he didn''t prove his own capabilities. Tyler smiled: You''re right. Don''t get too excited. Tyler turned around. He took a deep breath and took out the device. He held it in his hands and both the device and his earring gave a familiar faint glow. Mia and Joseph watch from behind Tyler. Not a moment later the same patterns on the device seemed to appear out of thin air. The once empty space in front of them seemed to take a physical form, break apart and separate from itself creating an opening. It really was a mystical sight. Both Mia and Joseph were amazed. There was a door in front of them leading to who knows where. Even so the other side could not be seen. It seemed to be glowing but not blinding. Instead it took on the color of the surroundings almost unnoticeable from afar. Tyler looked at the two circling the crack in space. At the very least they were unafraid, that''s for sure. Tyler: Well that''s it. Pretty yet scary. Joseph: It''s amazing. Mia agreed: Truely. I don''t even know how to describe it. How long will it stay open? Can anyone come through from the other side? Tyler shook his head: It''s only accessible to what I want to go through. And it''s one way so once it''s closed it''s over. This means we have to always go through together. One at a time can end in disaster very easily. If one of us is through and something throws me off and the portal closes we''ll be completely separated. We can''t go back to help so either we''re both safe or we''re both in danger. Joseph: I see. That''s good then. We can''t leave each other behind. That''s what being travel partners is all about. Tyler found his outlook extremely reassuring. His words help relax his heart even more. Joseph smiled: Alright then. I guess it''s finally time. Are you ready? Tyler: I should be asking you that. Joseph: Is that a yes? Tyler smiled: Yes it''s a yes. Joseph: Well then let''s do this. Mia this is it. It was nice connecting with you genuinely. I hope you can be happy in your future. Tyler: I hope so as well. This is goodbye. Mia laughed: Yeah yeah I''ll do my best. You two have fun as well alright? Joseph chuckled: We''ll also definitely do our best. And I hope we run into each other again. Mia: And when we do you both better have lots of good adventures to talk about. Tyler: And you as well. Your life better be exciting and filled with happiness. Mia smiled: It''s a deal then. Now go. Tyler and Joseph each hugged Mia goodbye. They stood in front of the portal and looked at eachother. Joseph smiled and linked their arms. Joseph: Shall we? Tyler: I guess we shall. As Mia waved them goodbye the two stepped forward. They disappeared into the portal and the space began to close back to normal. Mia sighed and went on her way back to town. The patterns along the air faded and the sun shone brightly on the flower tree. The light through the coloured petals painted a beautiful and serene picture. This was where Taylors body lay. Where Tyler was brought back. Where Joseph and Mia made their promise. And when all their stories truly started.
