《Bound by fusion》 Chapter 1 The sign above the shop creaked in the wind, the faded golden lettering hardly readable against the cracked wood. For a long time, Eldrin''s Emporium of Marvelous Beasts had been a beacon to adventurers, mages, and merchants seeking the rarest creatures. Now it was just one more shop in the lower district of Lytheris, which was also the heart of the most magical city, busy in its own way. Kael had in fact not been the original owner of this body he had been struck by a shooting star and woken up in this magical world, however he had no boon like ordinary transmigrated protagonists and eventually he came to terms with it but now he was stuck working in this ¡°emporium¡± which was far more suited to shelter some homeless runts in the street then actually sell anything however he didn¡¯t really have a choice in the matter. He stepped inside; the door groaned on its hinges. First, the smell hit him: a pungent mix of mildew, old wood, and a faint trace of beast musk. It wasn''t bad, exactly well it was but he had llong grown used to it these last few weeks, but what it really reeked of was abandonment. The walls were lined with rows of wooden shelves, some of which bowed under the weight of rusted tools, tattered books, and empty glass jars that might once have held rare herbs, spell tomes or other trinkets. Hanging all around, from the ceiling or sitting in corners, were cages in every shape and size. Many were empty, their iron bars corroded. The few that weren''t held faint traces of straw or dried droppings¡ªsigns of animals long gone. Kael sighed and ran a hand through his hair, brushing away the grime that had already settled on his forehead. This was Eldrin''s great legacy? he thought, stepping over a broken crate. His great-uncle Eldrin had been a legend, or so the stories went. He''d built the Emporium from the ground up, trading in beasts that could breathe fire, summon storms, or bolster mana reserves with their mere presence. Adventurers from across the Southern continent and even the other continents had once flocked to this very shop. Now, even a single Bronze ranked beast was too expensive for Kael to maintain. Kael still didn¡¯t really know how the world worked but he had slowly started to inherit memories of the pervious bodies owner and he learned afew simple things that helped seem not too strange to his family, he knew of the first three ranks that everything seemed to be classed into and they were bronze silver and gold but he also thought there was bound to be more, he had never actually seen anything of the gold rank but heard the lord that governs the markets is of the gold rank and he later learnt that he hadn¡¯t awakend yet and he was considered dormant like most of the population t=you had to kill a beast after all to become bronze so youd either have to be lucky enough to stumble into a weak beast in the wild had a rich family to buy you one or be a fearsome adventurer and go and sleight some colossal beast. After a while he picked up a broom leaning against the wall and began sweeping the floor half-heartedly. Particles of dust danced around him in the process, and the harsh sound of the bristles echoed through the silence. His mind wandered as he swept. Outside the city teemed alive with activity. Down here, the lower district sprawled chaotically¡ªrows of market stalls, smithies, potion brewers, and shops like his but far better. A steady influx of adventurers flowed into this place, their equipment alight with enchantments, as they exuded power in mana. Most of them were bronze ranked but occasionally a silver rank would walk the streets catching the awe of the onlookers¡¯ eyes Kael had watched one such silver ranked adventurer that morning: a swordswoman in gold-plated Armor buying a sliver ranked grey wolf from the other beast selling shop in the cities market there seemed to have been some rivalry between the two shops in the past but now Puberts magical beats had complete monopoly over all the beast sales while kale¡¯s shop slowly withered He stopped sweeping and leaned on the broom, his chest tight with frustration. "How the hell am I going to compete with that?" he exclaimed, exasperated. Competing shops like Puberts didn''t sell beasts; they sold prestige. Their customers weren''t buying power but status¡ªthe kind that made heads turn in the crowded streets. Even the lowest-ranked beast in their inventory would fetch more coin than Kael had seen in months. Even know he was new to this world it still infuriated him, maybe because of the emotions from the previous bodies owner or maybe it was just him he didn¡¯t know but he wanted to do something about it. He ground his teeth and went back to sweeping, his strokes rougher now. But as he was shifting one of the shelves, something caught his eye: a glint, ever so small, through the heavy dust covering. He bent down, and thrust his hand into the dark; his fingers met with smooth wood. When he pulled it out, he found himself holding a small, box with strange writing on its sides. The wood was dark and polished, the runes intricate and faintly glowing. Kael frowned, brushing the dust off the lid. Two eggs were in the box, which opened with a soft click.Unauthorized use of content: if you find this story on Amazon, report the violation. Kael leaned against the counter, exhaustion creeping over him. He picked up the gleaming egg absentmindedly, turning it in his hands. "What even are you?" he muttered, his grip accidentally tightening. A sharp crack split the air. Kael froze, staring at the fractured shell in his palm, resulting in a surge of mana that exploded outward. The room blurred, the air thick with swirling energy that seeped into his skin, burning and exhilarating all at once. It seemed to be targeting the center of his chest, forcing its way through without resistance until it was gone. When the light finally dimmed, Kael was sprawled on the floor, gasping for breath. He blinked, his vision swimming, and suddenly a jolt of clarity struck him. He sat up, trembling. His hands still tingled, and his gaze fell on the shattered remains of the egg. He stumbled backward in shock, then tripped over his broom. He gasped, his vision flipping, and his hands flailing about without coordination. He grabbed onto the clock that hung on the wall and fell onto his broom, landing in a pile with both objects. Slightly dazed and surprised, Kael tried to stand up and regain his bearings, but when he looked at the floor, the clock was missing. He rubbed his eyes again, checking if they were deceiving him, but to his surprise, they weren¡¯t. Then something unexplainable happened: the broom started to move by itself, sweeping the floor and the shelves with pristine technique that even Kael didn¡¯t have after weeks of sweeping. He decided to give his eyes one last rub, but after he did, he felt a voice in his mind: [You have stepped out of the pond and into the sea, Bronze Rank Awakened.] He came to the realization that he must¡¯ve killed the creature in the egg and awakened an ability that caused the broom to work by itself. He then tried to pour magic into other things in the room, but to no avail. Nothing he did stirred any reaction. How did I do it with the broom, then? Is it because I don¡¯t know how to channel my power, or maybe it has a cooldown? He stared at the broom intently, looking at every nook and cranny. Then, more words appeared: [Time sweeper] [Utility] [Bronze] [This broom will keep sweeping until time itself has given out before it.] He could view into objects now. He had heard this would happen if he awakened, but to see it in person was different¡ªit was magical. He paid close attention to its name, noticing that it seemed to be linked to time. Huh, maybe that¡¯s why the clock was missing¡ they had combined! Kael stared to think of the possibilities could he just keep combining items? Would the rank increase each time? Could he combine more than two? Well there¡¯s no point in asking these questions he had to find out. Kael went rooting through the shop tring to gather everything remotely valuable or interesting and also some mundane items to test his theories out, His first combination was two sticks, he grabbed both and willed them to combine, they did in a dance of swirling light he then tried to look at the description, however there wanst one, so it seems not everything can become bronze rank, but he suspected this and now it was time to see if quantity helped, he took a pile of over 30 sticks and willed them to combine, they did and a single stick appeared, this stick much darker in colour he tried to look at the description but there still wasn¡¯t one, so I guess the item has to have some value to become bronze rank or maybe I just need more sticks? However that was for another time, now he had a sword that used to be owned by his great uncle and he was told to never touch it as it was a family heirloom and was of the bronze rank he also managed to find a damaged spell tome they had been sold recently which was meant to make a small flame however it couldn¡¯t be used anymore, these were without a doubt the most valuable items in the shop currently which was quite a depressing thought everything that was remotely rare or useful was sold to keep his family from starving. Kael''s fingers hovered over the heirloom sword, a weight of history pressing upon him. He could feel, in the worn hilt, the echoes of generations in service, reminding him of the family''s legacy and the rule never to touch it unspoken. Yet, having the sword in his hand now, he was too strong for the temptation to resist testing its potential. The sword was bronze rank, aged and well used but still undeniably powerful. Beside it lay the damaged spell tome, its pages ragged and torn, though there was still the faint scent of magic within its fragile pages. It had once been capable of summoning a small flame, though Kael wasn''t sure though. He felt the pull of something greater, a compulsion to combine them, to see what might come from joining a weapon with magic. But would the result be something more? Something greater than either on its own? His hands trembled slightly as he laid a hand on each, his fingers taking in the weight of the moment. The world held its breath. He focused hard, willed the two objects to merge, to be something greater than the sum of their parts. For a fleeting moment, there was nothing. Then, a great surge of energy swept through him. The air crackled as the objects began to shift, the sword''s blade beginning to twist and warp, the pages of the book curling in strange, intricate patterns. Kael watched, wide-eyed, as they fused together in a dazzling burst of light. When the light faded, he found himself holding a new book with an image of a fiery sword [Flame blade] [Spell] [Silver] [A blade that provides light in a time of dark, but will also burn the dark] [Learn spell?] Chapter 2 Learn spell?! What I can learn a spell just by combining items, normally one would have to have a strong affinity to the spell and then have to study the contents of the spell for months, even years sometimes! Oh this was too good, this is just the change I needed in my life, I can finally get out this shop and explore what this new world has instore for me. But first I need to head home. When Kael arrive at the quite large farmhouse his family owns which was on the outskirts of the region and quite a walk from the city he noticed a number of people also arriving at his home and the most striking part was that they all had some form of armour or weapon, this doesn¡¯t look good. Kael hid behind one of the stables out of sight from the convoy, and tried to listen in to what all the fuss was about. his heart pounding as the convoy of armored figures dismounted in front of the farmhouse. Their weapons clinked against their gear as they moved, and he caught fragments of their conversation. ¡°¡can¡¯t put it off any longer. Eldrin¡¯s debts have been on the ledger for years,¡± a gruff voice growled. ¡°The family¡¯s had more than enough time to settle accounts.¡± ¡°Still, going after a family home like this¡ Seems heavy-handed,¡± another voice muttered, though it was met with a sharp rebuke. Kael''s stomach churned. Debt collectors? He cursed under his breath. Eldrin''s legacy was already a burden, but now it threatened to destroy his family¡¯s livelihood. One of the mercenaries, a towering man with silver streaks in his beard, stepped forward and slammed a heavy fist on the farmhouse door. ¡°Open up! By order of the Lord, this property is forfeit!¡± Kael¡¯s mother appeared in the doorway, her face pale but resolute. ¡°This is our home. My brother paid his dues with blood and sweat, building this place and that shop you have no right to¡ª¡± ¡°Eldrin¡¯s debts don¡¯t vanish just because he did,¡± the silver-bearded man interrupted coldly. ¡°This farm and everything on it is collateral.¡± He waved a hand, and two others stepped forward, unrolling a parchment stamped with the seal of the market lord. Kael clenched his fists, feeling an overwhelming surge of frustration and helplessness. His first instinct was to storm out and confront them, but what could he do? He had just awakened his powers not that he actually had any, and the only weapon he possessed was a broom enchanted to sweep floors. Still, something inside him burned, a defiance he couldn¡¯t ignore. His gaze shifted to the farmhouse''s storage shed¡ªinside were relics and old tools from Eldrin¡¯s days of glory. Maybe, just maybe, there was something he could use. Keeping low, Kael crept away from the stable and approached the covey of 8 seemingly soldiers but they could just as easily be bandits it was hard to tell. ¡°Well hello esteemed gentlemen, what business do you have with this household¡± Kael¡¯s voice cut through the air, startling the group of armoured men. He stepped into view, doing his best to appear confident despite the pounding in his chest. His grin was casual, but his fingers twitched at his sides, ready to react if things went south. The silver-bearded leader turned to him, his sharp eyes narrowing. ¡°And who might you be?¡± he asked, his tone laced with suspicion. Kael shrugged, keeping his posture loose. ¡°Just a concerned citizen. You know, someone who doesn¡¯t take kindly to strangers banging on doors and making threats.¡± The leader snorted, a low rumble of laughter that didn¡¯t reach his eyes. ¡°This is no concern of yours, boy. Walk away while you can.¡± Kael took a step closer, his smile widening. ¡°Oh, but it is my concern. You see, I happen to live here. So, I¡¯d appreciate it if you explained what¡¯s so important that you had to show up armed to the teeth.¡± The murmurs from the others grew louder, and Kael caught fragments of their hushed conversation. ¡°He doesn¡¯t look like much¡ Could he be the son? ¡Doesn¡¯t matter. Orders are orders.¡±This text was taken from Royal Road. Help the author by reading the original version there. Silver-beard raised a hand, silencing them. ¡°Alright, kid,¡± he said, his voice laced with mockery. ¡°You want an explanation? Fine. Your family owes a substantial debt to Lord Carnas. Eldrin¡¯s failed enterprise left quite the hole in his ledger, and now it¡¯s time to collect. The farm, the shop¡ªeverything is collateral. Unless you can pay, it¡¯s ours.¡± Kael forced a chuckle, though his mind raced. ¡°Funny thing about debt, though,¡± he said. ¡°It¡¯s only worth something if the person you¡¯re collecting from can pay. If you seize the farm, you¡¯ll still have nothing to show for it.¡± ¡°That¡¯s not our problem,¡± the leader snapped. ¡°Lord Carnas will sell this land to someone who can make it profitable. Now, move along before I lose my patience.¡± Kael¡¯s grin faltered, his temper flaring. He could feel the hum of mana in his chest, pulsing faintly like an unlit fuse. ¡°Here¡¯s the thing,¡± he said, taking another step closer. ¡°This farm isn¡¯t just some patch of dirt. It¡¯s my home. And I¡¯m not letting a bunch of hired thugs take it without a fight.¡± The leader¡¯s expression hardened. ¡°Careful, boy. Threats don¡¯t end well for people in your position.¡± Well shit that didn¡¯t go to plan, what can I do now if I summon the spell tome it might scare them off because they are quite rare around these parts however that will give rise to lots of questions I don¡¯t want to answer right now, and I¡¯m not confident intaking on these men by myself, in fact I¡¯m not confident in taking one of them, ah screw it. Kael took the spell tome out from behind him and the group of knights slightly plaed and instinctively took a couple steps back. ¡°Is that a spell tome!¡± exclaimed one of the men ¡°Shit, kill him,¡± said another Kael focused on where the spell said [learn] and then the spell tome became a glimmer of light that entered his chest, and he could feel it deep within him and he instinctively knew how to summon and use the new flame sword now. Kael summoned the sword to his palm and took stance, he had no clue how to use one but this is what instinctively felt right, the sword was fairly long about the size of his whole arm with two edges and a simple guard, but that wasn¡¯t the important part , he could just feel its sharpness radiating from it and more than that the power, raw like a flame. He didn¡¯t want to reveal the flaming part of the sword yet so he just kept looking like an ordinary sword. Kael tightened his grip on the sword, its unassuming yet menacing steel glinting in the sunlight. Despite its plain appearance, the mercenaries hesitated. The spell tome¡¯s transformation had rattled them, and Kael¡¯s defiant stance only deepened their uncertainty. ¡°Get him already!¡± the leader barked, though his voice betrayed a flicker of doubt. The first attacker lunged. Kael felt his muscles tense, and instinct¡ªor perhaps something more¡ªguided him. The blade in his hand moved with a precision he didn¡¯t fully control, parrying the man¡¯s strike with a sharp clang of metal. The mercenary staggered from the force of the block, and Kael¡¯s counterattack came swiftly¡ªa clean strike to the man¡¯s weapon, which snapped in two. The broken blade clattered to the ground as the mercenary scrambled back, wide-eyed. ¡°That¡¯s no ordinary sword!¡± he stammered, clutching his wounded pride more than his hand. The leader cursed. ¡°Pathetic! Surround him!¡± Two more men rushed in, one with an axe and the other with a curved blade. Kael shifted; his footing surprisingly steady. The axe swung down with brutal force, but Kael sidestepped, letting the heavy weapon bite into the earth. He brought his sword down in an arc, severing the axe handle with a single, decisive cut. The curved blade came next, slashing toward Kael¡¯s side. He twisted, the sword in his hand deflecting the attack with a screech of steel. The mercenary overextended, and Kael delivered a precise strike to his shoulder. The man cried out and fell back, clutching his arm. The remaining soldiers hesitated now, their confidence unravelling with every effortless move Kael made. The leader growled, stepping forward with his blade drawn. ¡°Fine I guess I¡¯ll have to get involved¡± He advanced cautiously, his stance more skilled than the others. Kael didn¡¯t wait. He darted forward, the sword in his hand feeling like an extension of his arm. Their blades met in a shower of sparks, the clash reverberating through the air. The leader grunted, straining against Kael¡¯s unexpected strength. Kael pushed forward, his sword twisting free and striking the leader¡¯s weapon near the hilt. A sharp crack split the air as the blade was knocked from his hand, leaving the man defenceless. That was if he didn¡¯t have another weapon which he did, he grabbed a dagger from his hilt it was curved and seemed to actually be bronze rank like his sword, the group leader was now in a crouched position lax with his feet slightly sunk into the wet mud of the farm, he went for Kael¡¯s left side in a low and quick dash however he planted his foot spun in a wide ark extending his arm and consequently his dagger. Shit it was a feint; Kael was stuck slightly in the mud and knew he couldn¡¯t dodge in time like he had been doing before, it left him with no choice, Kael ignited his blade, a untamed flame rose up the blade and spitting out the odd ember which burned and blinded the leader The leader stumbled back, his eyes wide with shock. ¡°What the hell are you?¡± Kael levelled his sword at the man, his voice steady. ¡°The guy who¡¯s not letting you take this farm.¡± The remaining mercenaries exchanged uneasy glances, their leader¡¯s defeat sapping what little resolve they had left. However, Kael wouldn¡¯t let the leader go so easily he needed to make an example to whoever had sent them. Chapter 3 Kael¡¯s grip tightened around the hilt of his sword, the flames flickering wildly as they burned brighter, casting erratic shadows on the ground. The leader, still reeling from the flash of heat and the searing sting to his eyes, stumbled back, trying to shield his face with his forearm. His breath came in ragged gasps as his mind struggled to comprehend what had just happened. He''d been ready for a quick fight, but this¡ªthis was something else entirely. Kael didn¡¯t hesitate. His senses surged with adrenaline as he took a step forward, his boots sinking into the wet earth as he closed the distance between them. He could hear the other mercenaries muttering behind him, fear creeping into their voices. The leader¡¯s pride had been shattered, and they could all see it in the way he staggered, disoriented by the flaming sword. The leader¡¯s dagger, still clutched in his shaking hand, glinted in the fading sunlight. He spat, his voice thick with defiance, though it was clear his confidence had already cracked. "You think this is over? You think one lucky move will save you? You¡¯re just a boy with a toy." Kael¡¯s eyes narrowed, his grip tightening around the sword. The flames danced along its blade, sending out sparks that crackled in the still air. ¡°You want to test me again? Let¡¯s see if your luck holds up a second time.¡± The leader straightened, trying to steady himself. The remaining mercenaries had taken a step back, their hands now hovering over their weapons as they seemed to question whether they should intervene or not. Kael could feel the shift in the air¡ªthe tension thickening. He didn¡¯t give them a chance to decide. With a swift motion, he swung the sword low, creating a trail of fire behind it. The leader reacted just in time, raising his dagger to deflect the strike. But Kael wasn¡¯t finished. He twisted the blade, catching the edge of the dagger and sending it flying from the leader¡¯s hand. The sword then whipped upward, catching the leader¡¯s arm, and a flash of flame erupted as the leader cried out in pain his arm dropped to the floor in a pool of blood. The other mercenaries hesitated, some looking at the leader''s agonized expression, others looking toward Kael¡¯s fire-imbued sword, the heat emanating from it suffocating. They could feel the raw power radiating from him. Kael swung his sword at the leader one last time, his head was left rolling on the floor his eyes still wide open and his lips pale, no blood leaked out his neck because the flames had already sealed the wound otherwise the already large red puddle would¡¯ve gotten a lot bigger. The reast of the group started to run towards their horses, until sunny shouted ¡°those horses are mine¡± the group quickly understood and didn¡¯t dare go near any of them. Well, that was quite the fight and it went far better than I expected Aswell, silver tier weapons really are just as powerful as people make them out to be. However, Kael wasn¡¯t done yet he had to get his spoils of war of course, after awhile of piling up everything the group left he ended up with 4 swords of the bronze rank, one broken sword of the bronze rank 6 horses, and the leaders bronze rank armour and dagger. It was time to combine Kael though with a mischievous facial expression. He gathered two swords and willed them to combine, Kael realised that his combination ability wasn¡¯t inherently apart of some spell or aspect he awakened it has always been inside him and it was his own, which lead to many questions but he just couldn¡¯t think of any answers other than he had gained something from his reincarnation. The two swords had combined. [sharpened blade] [weapon] [pseudo silver] [A sword that isn¡¯t just like your ordinary sword; its sharper] Oh, so this didn¡¯t quite manage to make silver, it was time to combine the other two and after a flash of light. [The great greatsword] [weapon] [silver] [A hunk of metal or a fierce blade? The wielder decides] This confirmed Kael¡¯s suspicion he knew there was flexibility to the process and it was all in his will, he put more focus control and thought into it this time and tried to combine towards a desired outcome and it worked, he could interfere or maybe it was guide the process how he liked. This was very, very important, now he just had to combine it with his flame sword¡ kael grew tired, suddenly the muddy ground looked really comfy. Kael groggily blinked, his surroundings coming into focus as his family crowded around his bed, concern etched on their faces. He winced slightly at the loud voice of his sister, Aimee, who was standing closest to him with her arms crossed and a scowl on her face. ¡°Hey doofus, thought you were dead,¡± she said with a mix of annoyance and relief. ¡°What happened to you?¡± Kael tried to sit up, the events of the battle still fresh in his mind. His head was pounding, and he could feel the remnants of exhaustion weighing heavily on his body. ¡°Yeah, well, I guess I¡¯m a bit tougher than I look,¡± he muttered, half-smiling despite his exhaustion. ¡°Don¡¯t worry about it, I¡¯m fine.¡± His older brother, Dan, gave him a sharp look, his brow furrowing with concern. ¡°You¡¯re fine? You¡¯ve been out cold for days, Kael. What happened? We heard you fighting, but... you disappeared. We thought you might¡¯ve...¡± Kael shook his head, cutting him off before his brother could finish. ¡°It¡¯s a long story,¡± he said, though his mind was racing, trying to make sense of what had happened. Aimee rolled her eyes. ¡°You¡¯re lucky you¡¯re not dead. I¡¯m still not sure what you did, but... I¡¯m glad you''re back. Just don¡¯t go doing anything stupid again.¡± Their mother, Lydia, finally spoke, her voice soft but firm. "What exactly happened out there, Kael? We were so worried. Your brothers ran out to look for you, but they couldn''t find you. We thought¡ª"Unauthorized tale usage: if you spot this story on Amazon, report the violation. This family belonged to the previous owner of Kael''s body, and it was a fairly large one, though not unusual in this world. He had three older brothers, one of whom was studying at an academy in a distant country. The other two, Dan and Tom, were¡ well, not the brightest. They were good-hearted, but they often had a hard time grasping things that most people took for granted. Then there was Freddy, his three-year-old little brother, who was the youngest of the bunch. And of course, there was Aimee, his sister¡ªsharp-tongued, strong-willed, and always ready to call him out on his missteps. Together, they made up a family that, for better or worse, Kael now found himself a part of. Thankfully, none of them had seen the fight and assumed he¡¯d been badly beaten by the convoy. That worked fine for Kael, who was still grappling with why he had passed out in the first place. Maybe it was related to his ability¡ªit must¡¯ve caused some strain on his mind. So, there are limits, Kael mused. That thought both intrigued and worried him. I¡¯ll have to experiment more to understand where those limits are and how to work around them. After fending off his family¡¯s questions with vague answers about being overwhelmed but somehow driving the convoy away, they eventually left him alone. His excuse of not feeling one hundred percent seemed to work for now, though Aimee didn¡¯t hide her scepticism. Kael didn¡¯t have the energy to deal with her suspicions; his mind was already preoccupied with the possibilities¡ªand risks¡ªhis power offered. Once the house was quiet, Kael pushed himself upright, wincing slightly at the lingering ache in his muscles. He made his way to the corner of his room, where the spoils of the recent battle were piled haphazardly. The faint gleam of steel caught his eye, and as he ran his hand over the cold, unyielding metal, a flicker of excitement stirred in his chest. Time to see what else this ability can really do. Kael lowered himself to the floor, sitting cross-legged as he carefully laid out the weapons before him: the leader¡¯s dagger, the silver-ranked [Great Greatsword] he¡¯d forged earlier, and the [Sharpened Blade], which had come from the combination of two bronze swords. His breathing steadied, his focus sharpening as he reached for the two swords, this time leaving the dagger untouched. The process was becoming more familiar with each use, a strange and instinctive act that felt as natural as breathing. He closed his eyes and visualized their attributes intertwining, merging into something greater. A flash of light erupted, briefly illuminating the dim room. When it subsided, Kael¡¯s hand grasped a new blade, its sheer weight and heat surprising him. [Great Crimson Edge] [Weapon] [Pseudo Gold] [A hulking blade forged from unbearable heat, its form reminiscent of molten rock shaped into a mighty greatsword] Kael¡¯s eyes lingered at that description¡P-p¡Pseudo¡Gold! What how can I manage to gain something like this, even though it isn¡¯t quite gold rank this could easily kill nearly anyone in the city maybe even the continent! Kael summoned it and it was even larger than him it look like a slab of large molten rock that looked like it would be more useful to crush things with rather than cut them, he then tried to pick it up but to his dismay it didn¡¯t even budge, not even a little, well dam just when I thought I had achieved something revolutionary. Well I guess ill have a look at that dagger that the group leader had used. Shadow Fang] [Weapon] [pseudo sliver] [A lightweight blade, designed for speed and silent execution.] So that leader did have some nice weapons up his sleeve, looks like he mustve been some form of assassin maybe a hired killer that did seem to suit his fighting style from the time Kale had gone against him, it made him wonder if they met under different circumstances whether he would still be alive¡ Shaking off the thought, Kael turned his attention back to the [Great Crimson Edge]. His fingers tightened around its hilt as a temptation crept in. If he combined this pseudo-gold blade with the [Flame blade] what would he end up with? Something even closer to true gold rank? Or maybe even Gold rank itself? But then the memory of his last blackout hit him¡ªhow his body had shut down after overusing his ability. He remembered the helplessness, the vulnerability, and the nagging fear of leaving his family defenseless if more mercenaries came calling. ¡°No,¡± Kael muttered, however there was a slight issue he couldn¡¯t desummon the other weapons like he can with the [Flame blade] so he was going to have to hide them, there came the next issue¡ he couldn¡¯t even move the [Great Crimson Edge]. He pushed the dagger under his pillow making sure none of the edges stuck out then moved his bed so the greatsword would be hidden underneath Leaning back against the wall, Kael allowed himself a moment of satisfaction. The haul from the battle had given him a glimpse of what his ability was truly capable of. With weapons like these, he could protect his family¡ªand, perhaps one day, carve out a place for himself in a world that no longer felt quite so insurmountable. Kael¡¯s gaze drifted to the window. The night was quiet, but it carried a sense of unease. The fight, the power of the pseudo-gold sword, the weight of his new responsibility¡ªit all felt overwhelming. He glanced out the window toward the stable where the six horses he¡¯d claimed stood restless. The horses had been an unexpected boon. Sunny, their family¡¯s old workhorse, would probably appreciate the company¡ªand, truthfully, the help. A faint grin tugged at his lips. But another thought crept in, unbidden. What if I could combine them? It was absurd, wasn¡¯t it? Combining living creatures? But his ability seemed limitless in its potential. He¡¯d already defied conventional understanding of magic by creating weapons no smith could forge. If his ability worked on animals... Kael shook his head, trying to dispel the notion. Yet curiosity itched at the back of his mind, refusing to be ignored. What would happen if I combined them? The thought gnawed at him until he couldn¡¯t resist. Quietly, Kael slipped out of his room and into the cool night air. Kael stood in the stable, staring at the restless horses. The idea had started as a spark of curiosity, but now it burned in his mind. He¡¯d combined weapons and unlocked incredible power¡ªwhy couldn¡¯t the same principle apply to the horses? The six warhorses he¡¯d claimed snorted and shifted, their powerful frames imposing even in the dim light. Kael felt a twinge of guilt. They were living creatures, after all, not just tools. But he couldn¡¯t ignore the thought of what might come from their union. If he could merge their strengths, their endurance, and their speed into a single entity... ¡°Alright,¡± Kael muttered, taking a deep breath. ¡°Let¡¯s see if this works.¡± He stretched out his hand, focusing on the horses. His ability stirred within him, a familiar warmth spreading through his chest. This time, though, it felt different¡ªstronger, heavier. Combining living beings wasn¡¯t like merging blades; it required more focus, more control. The horses began to glow faintly, their forms shimmering as if caught between reality and something else entirely. Kael¡¯s heart pounded as the light grew brighter, enveloping the entire stable. The air crackled with energy, and Kael had to shield his eyes as a final, blinding flash filled the space. When the light faded, the stable was eerily silent. In the center of the room stood a single horse, its presence commanding and otherworldly. It was larger than any of the warhorses had been, its coat a sleek black so dark it seemed to absorb the light around it. Its mane and tail shimmered like strands of liquid silver, and its eyes glowed faintly with a deep violet hue. Kael took a hesitant step forward, his breath catching in his throat. [Night Rider] [Mount] [silver] [A steed born from the merging of strength, speed, and endurance. Its abilities are amplified under the veil of night, making it unmatched in stealth and speed when darkness falls.] Kael ran a hand along its neck, the coat unnaturally smooth and cool to the touch. ¡°You¡¯re... incredible,¡± he whispered. Night Rider snorted softly, stamping a hoof that left a faint impression on the stable floor. Chapter 4 The next day Kael had to go back to the shop in hopes of gaining anymore to finally settle the current feud between his families unknown rival, however even if a customer decided to come into the shop there wasn¡¯t any point because he didn¡¯t even have anything to sell, now he though it was pretty pointless with him being here, he didn¡¯t even need to sweep the floor anymore because of his magical broom, which he though might be even more precious than any of his actual weapons. So, in the end he decided it was best to try and gain some items to sell, why hadn¡¯t he though of this before? Well that¡¯s simple, Kael had thought of this idea before in fact he¡¯s wanted to do it, however the only thing that was stopping him was the danger that was awaiting him outside the city itself, the forest was littered with magical herbs dungeons and many other precious things but with great reward also came a great risk and that risk was creatures all the way up to gold rank littered the forest, however it would in fact be rare if he saw a gold rank beast it wasn¡¯t too uncommon to not be accounted for. Kael was now on the back of his new steed the [Night Rider] and he was heading to the great forest he could appreciate the speed at which his horse now travelled, it was about as fast as most cars could travel back in his old life, and it didn¡¯t take long until he arrived, when he got there all he could see for miles where great tall standing redwood trees which together created a large canopy blocking out all sunlight creating this sence of twilight in the forest. Kael dismounted, patting [Night Rider] on the nose as a thank-you. "Stay here," he told her softly, giving her a gentle nudge to make sure she stayed put. The forest greeted him with silence, the kind that only a place untouched by civilization could offer. It was peaceful, yet Kael knew that calm could shift into danger at any moment. He gripped the hilt of his [Flame Blade], the weapon¡¯s warmth reassuring as it pulsed in his hand. He didn¡¯t need to be told twice that the blade was his greatest asset here. He himself wasn¡¯t silver rank however his blade was so he was hoping to end most of his fights in as few hits as possible. Kael began to walk deeper into the forest, his senses heightened. Every rustle of leaves, every faint shift in the wind, had him on edge. It wasn¡¯t long before he heard a noise¡ªa grunting, followed by the sound of heavy footsteps. He turned, instinctively raising his sword as a large creature emerged from the underbrush. A boar, easily twice the size of the largest boar Kael had seen back home, charged toward him. Its tusks gleamed in the dim light, and its eyes burned with an aggressive gleam. The creature wasn¡¯t the smartest, but it was powerful, and it wasn¡¯t going to hesitate to attack. Kael stood his ground, his muscles tense. The boar was fast, charging straight at him with a primal fury. Without thinking, Kael sidestepped just as the creature¡¯s tusks swung toward him, narrowly avoiding the sharp horns. He swung his [Flame Blade] at the beast, the blade cutting through the air with a sharp hiss it sliced off a chunk of the creatures ear however he slightly missed his mark. The boar grunted and staggered back, but it was far from defeated. It growled, pawing at the ground before charging again, faster this time. Kael¡¯s heart pounded in his chest. The [Flame Blade] flared to life as he focused, channelling his will through the sword. The blade blazed with heat, the fire spreading along the edge, and with a fluid motion, Kael swung it down in an arc. The strike landed squarely across the boar¡¯s side, the fire sizzling as it burned through the creature''s thick hide. The boar let out a pained cry, stumbling backward, but it was still alive, still struggling. Kael¡¯s confidence began to waver slightly. This wasn¡¯t a fight he could afford to drag out. He needed to finish it quickly. With a deep breath, Kael took another step forward. His grip tightened on the hilt of his sword as he moved with precise calculation. When the boar lunged again, Kael sidestepped, ducked, and slashed upward. The flames erupted from the blade, searing the boar¡¯s flesh as he cleaved it from shoulder to side. The creature collapsed, its body still twitching from the heat. Kael stood over it, breathing heavily. He wiped the sweat from his brow, trying to calm his racing heart. The fight had been close, and though the boar was far from a gold-tier threat or even silver, it still reminded Kael of the dangers lurking in the forest.A case of content theft: this narrative is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation. It also made him realise that fighting beasts was different to fighting humans, you needed to give your blows strength it didn¡¯t matter how sharp your sword was if you couldn¡¯t swing it. He bent down to examine the boar. Despite its formidable size and strength, it didn¡¯t have much in the way of useful materials¡ªexcept for one thing: its tusks. After a few moments of thought, Kael took the tusks and stashed them in his bag. They could be sold, or maybe combined into something useful later. As Kael began to stand up, something else in the forest caught his attention. He could feel a faint, almost imperceptible pull in the air then it entered his chest, he felt a little stronger and closer to a new whole, like a drop of water in a glass, that must¡¯ve been the beats essence bringing him closer to the silver rank, the whole rank up process had been studied but the results were rudimentary at best from what the bodies previous owner understood one would have to kill about 100 bronze tier beats or 50 silver to rank up to silver which sounded really harsh to Kael, how could someone be expected to kill 50 sliver beasts at the bronze rank, but what he didn¡¯t know is that most people never make it to silver and if they do its mostly after years of fighting in large groups or buying encaged beats if you were rich. He shook off the thought, turning his focus back to the present. The forest around him was quiet again, but Kael could feel the weight of its mysteries pressing in. There was still much to explore, and if he was going to find the materials needed to make his mark in the world, he had to stay sharp. He couldn¡¯t afford to become complacent, not with his family depending on him. With a deep breath, Kael began to walk deeper into the forest, his [Flame Blade] at the ready. He knew there would be more creatures to face¡ªmore tests of his strength and resolve. But now, he felt a sense of purpose that he hadn¡¯t felt before. This wasn¡¯t just about survival or gathering materials. It was about growth, about pushing himself to become something greater than he had been. As he moved through the trees, Kael¡¯s thoughts drifted to the silver rank again. If this was truly the path to becoming stronger, he had no choice but to follow it. The road to silver would be harsh, filled with more challenges than he could imagine. But as he felt the warmth of the [Flame Blade] in his hand, he knew that he wasn¡¯t alone. The sword, the essence he had absorbed, and the path ahead¡ªall of it was a part of him now. And Kael would use everything at his disposal to carve his way forward. After an entire day of battling through the forest, Kael had begun to adapt to the rhythm of the fight. He¡¯d slain two more boars, a bronze-ranked snake, and a bronze-ranked goblin. However, after taking down the goblin, he had hurriedly retreated, wary that it might belong to a nearby clan. He couldn''t afford to risk a confrontation with more enemies than he could handle. Along with the beasts, Kael had gathered a large quantity of herbs, which he could sell in the shop, ensuring that his trip wouldn¡¯t be entirely for nothing. As the sun began to set, casting long shadows through the forest, Kael decided it was time to head back to the city. The forest had been kind to him today, providing both the experience he needed and the materials he sought. His bag was now heavy with tusks, herbs, and a few other valuable odds and ends. The hunt had sharpened his skills, but it had also made him realize how much further he needed to go if he wanted to stand a chance against the more dangerous creatures lurking deeper in the woods. Kael mounted [Night Rider], his new steed, and set off back towards the city. The horse¡¯s speed was a comfort, and soon the dense forest began to give way to the more familiar sights of civilization. Despite the dangers he had faced, Kael couldn¡¯t help but feel a sense of satisfaction. His strength was growing, and the thrill of the fight was slowly becoming second nature. But he knew there were still many more challenges ahead¡ªbeasts to face, rivals to contend with, and mysteries about his new powers to uncover. As he approached the outskirts of the city, the familiar silhouette of the shop came into view. Kael felt a mix of relief and frustration. The money he¡¯d earned today would help, but it still wouldn¡¯t be enough to resolve everything. The feud between his family and their unknown rival wasn¡¯t going to disappear with a few herbs and tusks. But it was a start. He dismounted and led [Night Rider] to the stable behind the shop. ¡°You did good today,¡± Kael murmured, giving the horse a reassuring pat before heading inside. Kael¡¯s last task of the day was to stock the shelves with the herbs he had collected, as well as the monster parts he had gained. He had gathered many useful herbs, all of them bronze rank, including [essence leaf], [Crimson Thorn], and [Silver root]. These herbs were highly sought after in the market, often used in potions and salves to enhance strength or heal wounds he didn¡¯t quite know himself. He also had the tusks from the boar, the venom sacs from the snake, and the goblin¡¯s medallion, all of which could be sold for a good price or potentially combined into something more valuable later. He wasn¡¯t quite sure as to what the goblin medallion was or its purpose as he hasn¡¯t encountered goblins before or even heard about them, Kael made plans to investigate on his next journey to the forest. After all his tasks were complete he jumped on [Night rider] and headed home for some well earned rest. Chapter 5 After a long rest and a protein-packed breakfast to keep him fueled for the day, Kael did his usual routine of heading back to the shop. The early morning air was cool and refreshing as he made his way down the familiar path toward the little store that had been in his family for generations. As he arrived, he couldn¡¯t help but appreciate how much more peaceful it felt after the chaos of the previous days. But that peace wouldn¡¯t last long; he knew that. Entering the shop, Kael was greeted by the soft creak of the door as it opened, and the familiar smell of wood and herbs filled the air. He hadn¡¯t had much time to rearrange the shelves from the night before, but he was sure the place looked good enough for now. He made his way behind the counter and quickly organized the items he had brought in from the forest the day before: the herbs, the monster parts, and the tusks, claws, and venom sacs. All of them were sorted neatly, ready to be sold. He was eager to see if anyone would stop by to make a purchase. It wasn¡¯t long before the first customer entered. An elderly woman, wearing a faded cloak, shuffled into the shop, her eyes scanning the shelves with curiosity. She paused in front of the section with the herbs, her fingers gently grazing the bottles and jars. Kael stepped forward, offering her a polite smile. ¡°Good morning, ma¡¯am. How can I help you today?¡± Kael asked. The woman looked up at him, squinting slightly. ¡°Hmm, you¡¯re the new owner, aren¡¯t you? I¡¯ve heard a lot about you. Some of the local farmers are talking about how you¡¯ve been venturing into the great forest¡± Kael raised an eyebrow, surprised by her knowledge. ¡°I suppose word travels fast around here. Yes, I¡¯ve been gathering some things that might be of interest.¡± ¡°Hmm, yes I would be, can I have a look at your [sliver root]collection, of course ill offer a fair amount of coin¡± Kael¡¯s eyes flickered toward the shelves where the [Silver root] was carefully displayed. He had collected quite a bit of it from his recent trip into the forest, and it was one of the more valuable herbs for its properties in strengthening bones and joints, a highly sought-after item for many of the region¡¯s laborers and adventurers. The elderly woman seemed to know exactly what she was after, her wrinkled hands reaching for the jar with practiced ease. "Of course, ma''am," Kael replied, trying to mask his curiosity. "I¡¯ll be happy to sell you the [Silver root]." He gestured to the shelf. ¡°I¡¯ve got quite a bit, but I¡¯ll make sure you get the best quality. How much would you like?¡± The woman¡¯s eyes gleamed as she picked up the jar and inspected the contents with care. ¡°I¡¯ll take all of it,¡± she said with a nod, ¡°and I¡¯m willing to pay a fair price, as I mentioned. The Silverroot will be used for some important work I¡¯m doing. I trust you know the value of a good herb.¡± Kael hesitated for a moment, his mind weighing the offer. It wasn¡¯t often he had this much of a single herb on hand, and parting with all of it at once didn¡¯t sit well with him. If he sold out so early in the day, it might make his shop look poorly stocked to other potential customers, and that could hurt his business. He needed to maintain a steady flow of goods, not just sell everything to one person. ¡°No, ma¡¯am,¡± Kael said, his tone polite but firm. ¡°I¡¯m afraid I can¡¯t part with all of it. However, I can sell you a large quantity if that suits you.¡± The elderly woman¡¯s eyes flickered with a hint of annoyance, but she quickly masked it with a small, tight-lipped smile. ¡°I suppose that will have to do then,¡± she replied, her voice taking on a slightly colder edge. ¡°I¡¯ll take a fair amount, but don¡¯t expect me to return if you¡¯re stingy with your stock in the future.¡± Kael nodded, keeping his expression neutral. "Of course, ma''am. I''ll set aside a generous portion for you. I''m sure you''ll find it useful." He quickly measured out a sizable amount of the [Silver root], wrapping it carefully in parchment before placing it on the counter. The woman eyed it, and after a brief moment of inspection, she nodded in approval. "That will do," she said, her tone softening a little. "I¡¯ll take it for the price you¡¯ve set, but know that I¡¯ll be keeping an eye on your stock. The narrative has been taken without permission. Report any sightings. Kael offered a polite smile, though in his mind, he was already tallying up the cost. The exchange wasn¡¯t quite as smooth as he¡¯d hoped, but it was still a sale. He accepted the coins she handed him, his fingers brushing lightly against hers as they passed the payment. "Thank you for your purchase. I¡¯ll be here if you need anything else," Kael said, trying to hide the lingering unease in his chest. The woman didn¡¯t reply right away, instead giving him a long, appraising look before turning and shuffling out the door. The bell above the entrance jingled faintly as she disappeared into the street, and Kael let out a quiet breath he hadn¡¯t realized he¡¯d been holding. His instincts were telling him that something about this woman was off, but he couldn¡¯t quite put his finger on it. She was clearly more than just a regular customer, and her cryptic comments made Kael wonder if there was more to her interest in the [Silver root] than just its medicinal value. It also made him wonder what he¡¯d gain if he combined the rest of the her. Finally, closing time arrived, and Kael let out a quiet sigh as he surveyed his shop. It had been another slow day, with only the elderly woman¡¯s purchase to show for it. Maybe he should¡¯ve agreed to her offer, but now it was too late to second-guess himself. Still, the lack of sales didn¡¯t bother him as much as it should have. His mind was preoccupied with something far more intriguing. He¡¯d been meaning to experiment with his [Silver root] all day, and now, with some free time on his hands, he finally had the chance. The [Silver root] had potential¡ªits ability to strengthen bones could be the key to improving his body¡¯s resilience and even enhance his combat capabilities. Kael had a few ideas in mind, hoping to create something that could aid his physical endurance or perhaps enhance his fighting ability. He gathered the remaining [Silver root] into a large pile on the counter, staring down at it thoughtfully. The challenge now was to shape it to his will. Kael concentrated, focusing all his thoughts on what he wanted to create. His breath slowed, his hands tingled with the familiar warmth of magic as he willed the roots to merge, shaping them into something more useful. The air around him shimmered, and with a sudden burst of light, the roots on the counter began to condense, reshaping into something new. As the glow faded, Kael was left staring at an unfamiliar item resting on the counter. [Rhino Beast Bone Marrow] [Enhancement] [Bone marrow from a great rhino beast of pure lineage] Kael¡¯s eyes sparkled this is exactly what I wanted, however he hadn¡¯t heard of anything to do with enhancement before, maybe it was something that only powerful practitioners knew about or it was just too expensive to be know to the general public, however he was eager to see what it did and if it could help in his future visits to the great forest. Theres only one issue though, just how on earth do I consume it? He had no clue Kael tried to use his will on it to no avail he tried to use essence however he couldn¡¯t even control that yet, finally he came to a final conclusion that he would just have to eat the bone marrow. That was quite a horrifying thought as he didn¡¯t know where it had been, well apart from inside this great rhinoceros. After counting down from three in his head he threw it into his mouth then quickly swallowed not wanting to taste the marrow. At first, nothing happened. Kael waited, hoping for some kind of reaction, but the marrow simply sat in his stomach like a stone. He closed his eyes, trying to stay calm, wondering if he had made a huge mistake. Then it started. A sharp, searing pain shot through his body like lightning. It started in his stomach, a tight, gnawing pain as if his insides were being burned from the inside out. The sensation quickly spread, radiating out through his limbs and deep into his bones. His muscles spasmed violently, his skin felt like it was being pulled and twisted, stretched beyond its limits. He gasped for air as waves of agony coursed through him. This is bad¡ Kael¡¯s mind screamed, but he couldn¡¯t even focus enough to think clearly. The pain intensified, his heart pounding in his chest as though it were trying to escape. It was as if his entire body was being reshaped, remade from the inside out. His bones felt like they were cracking and reforming, the marrow working its way deep into his skeletal structure. The sensation was horrifying. It felt as though every bone in his body was being burned, shattered, and reforged all at once. Kael¡¯s mouth opened in a silent scream, but the pain drowned out all his thoughts. His entire body was on fire, every nerve ending screaming for release. The agony seemed to go on forever, though in reality, it was only a matter of minutes. But to Kael, it felt like an eternity. Finally, after what felt like the longest moment of his life, the pain began to subside. The burning in his bones dulled, the tightness in his muscles loosened, and his body finally began to calm. He collapsed to the floor, gasping for breath, drenched in sweat. Kael¡¯s vision blurred as his mind tried to process what had just happened. His body felt different¡ªstronger, denser, like every part of him had been reinforced. He could feel the power coursing through his veins, an overwhelming surge of vitality. His bones felt harder, more resilient, and his muscles seemed to have gained a new level of strength. He cautiously stood up, testing his limbs. His body felt heavier, more solid, but in a way that made him feel like he could take on a bull and win. His senses were heightened, and his strength had clearly been enhanced. Kael flexed his fingers, feeling the raw power in his grip This, this is amazing it¡¯s like I¡¯ve jumped a whole rank! Chapter 6 Kael woke up surprisingly early the next morning, and he felt even more rejuvenated than usual after checking the clock he realised he¡¯d only slept for about an hour. He was shocked but realised it must¡¯ve been down to the rhino marrow that he had consumed yesterday, which then fill him with joy and his head with possibilities, now he didn¡¯t have to sleep for near as long he could get a lot more done. Not waiting on anything he decided to jump on [Night rider] and head into the forest again for the second time With no hesitation, Kael urged Night Rider forward, and they galloped off toward the Great Forest. The wind whipped past him, but he felt more in control than ever. His enhanced body felt stronger and faster, and Night Rider¡¯s increased speed made the journey even more thrilling. The forest loomed ahead, its vastness promising new challenges and rewards. As he entered the forest, the familiar quiet of the trees settled around him. The canopy above blocked most of the light, casting everything beneath it in perpetual twilight. The air smelled of damp earth, wood, and the faint scent of herbs. Kael felt the familiar pull of the wild place, the presence of magic and creatures both dangerous and wondrous. He dismounted Night Rider near the same clearing he had fought in the day before, the one where he had battled the boar and encountered other creatures. Kael felt his heartbeat quicken as he surveyed the area. With his new enhancements, he was confident that he was stronger than before, but he wasn¡¯t sure how his body would react to another full day of fighting. Still, he wasn¡¯t one to shy away from a challenge. The forest was full of potential, and if he was going to make a name for himself and strengthen his family¡¯s business, he needed to push himself further. Kael set out into the forest, his sword at the ready. It didn¡¯t take long before he encountered his first target, a large bronze-ranked wolf, its fur gleaming in the dim light, eyes sharp and calculating. The beast growled low, watching him intently, but Kael wasn¡¯t afraid. His enhanced body hummed with strength, and he felt his senses sharpen as he focused on the wolf. The beast lunged first, but Kael was faster now. He sidestepped the wolf¡¯s attack with ease, feeling the grace and agility in his movements as though they were second nature. He raised his Flame Blade, the fiery energy within the sword igniting as it connected with the air. Kael swung with precision, delivering a blow that sliced through the wolf¡¯s side with ease. The wolf howled in pain, but Kael didn¡¯t stop. His new strength made the impact of the sword feel like an unstoppable force, and his body followed through effortlessly. Another clean strike finished the wolf off, its body crumpling to the ground. The adrenaline surged through Kael, and he stood there for a moment, watching the body of the wolf before turning his attention back to the forest. He had felt the difference in his strength¡ªthe wolf was fast and dangerous, but Kael had been faster and stronger, able to move with an ease that made his previous battles feel sluggish in comparison. It felt like he was now in silver rank, knowing that he could wait for the increase in strength when he would finally reach the silver rank, he couldn¡¯t even imagine his strength. The thrill of the fight had only just begun. Kael spent the next few hours moving through the forest, his enhanced body allowing him to push harder, faster, and longer than he had ever been able to before. He fought more creatures, each one providing a fresh challenge. With every strike of his sword, every encounter, he could feel the marrow inside him working its magic. His body seemed to adapt, his strength growing with each passing hour. It wasn¡¯t just his muscles that were improving; his instincts were sharper, his reflexes quicker. By midday, Kael had already taken down several more beasts another seven of those wolves he had faced earlier and another goblin, that was not before he had stalked it for awhile and he ended up finding what he though was some for a camp near the cliffside, however he decided to leave that alone as he knew even with his recent improved strength he couldn¡¯t take on a whole camp of goblins that are probably have a silver ranked leader. After collecting lots more herms than he had last time all of the same kind he¡¯d almost be able to fill the shops shelves by the time he went to start his shift however he was against this instead he wanted to combine the other types of herbs and collect some more before he went to the city firstly he wanted to combine [Silver root] again and get some more [Great rhino marrow] and that¡¯s what he did he ended 5 lots of the marrow and consumed them all the pain wasn¡¯t as strong as the first time thanks to the marrow he¡¯d already consumed and he felt his strength increase again not quite as drastic as the first time but it definitely was an improvementThis book''s true home is on another platform. Check it out there for the real experience. Next was the [essence leaf] after the process was done he was left with [essence potion] [consumable] [bronze] [ran out of essence? No worry] He had seen these for sale for a high price within alchemy shops in the city, so that¡¯s what the essence leaf was used to make. And finally he was only left with the [crimson thorn] after the usual flash of light he was left with a small and strange red orb that read [blood orb] [enhancement] [bronze] [grants an increased affinity for blood] Well that wasn¡¯t ominous at all, Kael stared at the [blood orb] in his hand, feeling the strange warmth radiating from it. The eerie red glow reminded him of something both dangerous and powerful, but the description left him uncertain. An increased affinity for blood? He couldn¡¯t quite wrap his mind around what that would mean. Would it enhance his combat abilities? Or perhaps it had something to do with healing or manipulation? Either way, it was far more cryptic than anything he had encountered before. He carefully placed the orb onto the counter and turned his attention back to the other items he had created. The [essence potion] seemed far more straightforward. He had seen these potions in alchemy shops in the city, always priced high due to their usefulness. The description¡ªran out of essence? No worry¡ªwas a comforting reassurance, but Kael had no immediate use for it. He didn¡¯t fully understand how it worked, but he assumed it could restore his essence or stamina, which would be useful on his longer expeditions into the forest or when facing stronger opponents. The [Great Rhino Marrow], now a familiar part of his body, had clearly enhanced his physical power once again. Kael had hoped to experience a dramatic improvement, but the effect was subtler this time. His muscles felt denser, his bones more solid. While the changes weren¡¯t as noticeable as the first dose, he could tell that his body was stronger and more resilient. He flexed his hands, feeling the newfound strength in his grip, but he knew he had to push harder, combine more materials, to truly understand his limits. With a sigh, Kael decided it was time to stop experimenting for now. He had created more than enough enhancements and potions to last him for a while. The shop needed his attention, and he still had to prepare for his next trip to the forest. His thoughts turned to the crimson orb again, its faint glow tempting him. As much as he was drawn to the potential power it could unlock, he wasn¡¯t quite ready to explore it. Not yet. Kael stood up and stretched, deciding to focus on practical matters. His next step was to head back to the city to sell his wares, restock, and take a brief respite before continuing his work in the forest. There was something strange pulling at him, though¡ªhe couldn¡¯t quite shake the feeling that these items he was creating, these strange combinations of herbs and monster parts, were just the beginning. There was far more to this power than he had discovered so far. The thought lingered in his mind as he grabbed his bag, packed with all the materials he had gathered. He made sure to pack away the [Blood Orb] carefully, wondering just what kind of affinity for blood it would grant him. He wasn¡¯t sure if he was ready to test it, but it was better to keep it on hand¡ªjust in case. With that, Kael mounted Night Rider, the now-familiar sensation of speed rushing through him as the steed galloped swiftly toward the city. As the wind rushed past him, Kael¡¯s mind wandered to the next steps. He would sell his items, replenish his stock, and perhaps even seek out more powerful creatures to experiment on. For the first time ever Kael was able to fully stock all the shelves meant for the herbs and now all he needed was weapons and of course monsters that was the whole point of the emporium, but one this was perfectly satisfactory for Kael he was just taking the shop business one step at a time. He also noticed that he was getting closer to saturating whatever was inside of him and becoming the silver rank however it would take a good couple more trips to be able to do that, there was also the worry of what append when he would become silver rank? Was there any risk to it? As Kael dismounted Night Rider, he was greeted by the sight of Aimee standing at the door, her arms crossed and a knowing look on her face. ¡°You¡¯ve been in the forest, haven¡¯t you?¡± she said, her tone somewhere between exasperation and amusement. Kael gave her a sheepish grin, brushing some stray leaves off his jacket. ¡°Guilty as charged. ¡°What has gotten into your mind! Have you gone crazy after them men beat you?¡± ¡°No actually I haven¡¯t actually been into the forest I¡¯ve just been on the edge looking for herbs to put into the shop¡± Kael didn¡¯t want to arise any suspicion or worry especially with his family, he also wondered how Aimee came to find out about him going into the forest but then again that old woman from the other day also knew. Aimee seemed to buy it, her expression softening slightly. ¡°Well, at least that¡¯s productive. Mum¡¯s been worried about how little we¡¯ve got to sell. You should¡¯ve told me, though. I¡¯d have gone with you.¡± Kael shrugged, shifting his weight casually. ¡°Didn¡¯t want to bother anyone. It was a quick trip. Besides, you¡¯ve been busy helping with the house and keeping Freddy in line.¡± He stepped past her, keeping his movements deliberate and smooth so she wouldn¡¯t notice the faint, lingering scent of the forest on him¡ªor the scuffed edges of his boots. Chapter 7 Today was different. As Kael stepped out of his home, he was immediately confronted by a sight that set his nerves on edge. A convoy, larger and more imposing than the last, stood before him. About twenty armed men were arranged in a loose but disciplined formation, their weapons glinting under the midday sun. At their head stood a hulking man, his sheer size dwarfing those around him. His plate armour gleamed unnaturally, reflecting the light with an almost otherworldly sheen. That wasn¡¯t bronze rank armour, Kael¡¯s stomach tightened. The leader¡¯s voice boomed out, rich and deep, carrying the authority of someone who was used to being obeyed. ¡°You there! Are you the one they call Kael?¡± Kael didn¡¯t immediately answer, his mind racing as he took in the scene. These weren¡¯t common mercenaries or brigands¡ªthey moved with the precision of trained soldiers. Whoever had sent them was clearly escalating things. His mind twitched threatening to summon his [Flame Blade]. ¡°Depends on who¡¯s asking,¡± Kael replied evenly, keeping his tone measured. Kael couldn¡¯t even see the mans face behind his helmat that provided complete cover of his whole face ¡°We¡¯ve been sent to collect a debt your family owes. You¡¯ve been a thorn in the wrong person¡¯s side, boy. You can either come with us quietly and work it off¡ªor we can settle this here.¡± Kael¡¯s heart sank. Aimee¡¯s suspicion about the growing trouble with their rival was clearly well-founded. Whoever was behind this wasn¡¯t playing games anymore. ¡°I think you¡¯ve got the wrong person,¡± Kael said, trying to buy time as his eyes darted to the surrounding area. The men were spread out strategically, their movements betraying their training. There was no easy way to flee¡ªnot without drawing immediate pursuit, and not without risking his family¡¯s safety. The leader¡¯s smirk turned into a sneer. ¡°Oh, I don¡¯t think we do. Your little stunt last week cost my employer quite a lot of coin. You think you can just kill his men and not face the consequences?¡± He stepped forward, the ground seeming to tremble slightly under his weight. ¡°I don¡¯t need all of you to make a point. Just your head will do.¡± His mind raced. Fighting twenty trained soldiers, including one who was clearly well above bronze rank, was madness. But running away would only delay the inevitable¡ªand put his family in even greater danger. ¡°Alright,¡± Kael said, his voice firm despite the pounding of his heart. ¡°You want to settle this? Let¡¯s settle it.¡± He drew his [Flame Blade], its crimson edge flaring to life as the flames danced along the metal. The men hesitated at the sight of the flaming sword, a murmur rippling through their ranks. The leader, however, seemed unfazed. He barked a single word: ¡°Attack!¡± The men surged forward as one, their movements disciplined and efficient. Kael barely had time to react before the first wave was upon him. Kael''s [Flame Blade] blazed like a beacon as the first soldier lunged at him, spear thrusting forward. He sidestepped, slashing the flaming sword across the spear shaft, and it splintered with a hiss of burning wood. The soldier stumbled back, clutching his now-useless weapon. Another came at him, this time with a mace. Kael ducked under the swing and countered with a horizontal slash that singed the soldier¡¯s armor, forcing him to retreat with a cry of pain. Two more rushed forward, their swords glinting in unison. Kael parried the first strike, twisting to avoid the second, and retaliated with a diagonal slice that left one opponent sprawling. His heart pounded in his chest as the skirmish intensified. Though Kael fought with precision, each swing of his blade wearing down his enemies, it also wore down his stamina. His strikes were quick, but the sheer number of attackers began to overwhelm him. Kael¡¯s breaths came in short bursts, and for every opponent he downed, another filled their place. His arms burned from the effort of swinging the [Flame Blade], and his mind raced for a way out. A soldier with a shield bashed forward, slamming into Kael with enough force to knock him off balance. He stumbled, barely deflecting a sword that came inches from his throat. "Not bad, boy!" the leader called, his voice booming over the chaos. "But you''re out of your depth." Kael gritted his teeth and pushed back against the tide of attackers. Another flame-infused swing of his sword forced the immediate group of soldiers to back off momentarily, their faces wary of the intense heat. The opening gave Kael a brief moment to catch his breath, but it wasn¡¯t enough. His legs trembled, and the weight of the battle pressed down on him. The leader finally strode forward, his massive frame cutting through the line of soldiers like a ship through water. "Stand aside!" he commanded, and his men quickly obeyed. Kael''s chest heaved as he stared up at the man, whose presence seemed to darken the very air around them. The plate armor he wore glimmered faintly, its mithril luster undeniable. The greatsword in his hand looked less like a weapon and more like a slab of destruction. Kael raised his [Flame Blade], the fire flaring brighter as if to match his determination. But deep down, he knew the gap between them was immense. "Impressive," the leader said, his tone almost mocking. "But that little toy of yours won''t save you." The man moved with a speed that defied his size. Before Kael could react, the greatsword swung down with a deafening crash. Kael raised his blade to block, and the impact sent a shockwave through his arms, nearly knocking the sword from his hands. The ground beneath him cracked under the force. This tale has been unlawfully obtained from Royal Road. If you discover it on Amazon, kindly report it. Kael staggered back, his arms numb. The leader didn¡¯t give him time to recover. Another swing came, this time horizontal. Kael ducked, the blade whistling past his head and carving a deep gouge into the earth behind him. He countered with a desperate thrust of his [Flame Blade], aiming for the leader¡¯s exposed side, but the man twisted effortlessly, his armor deflecting the strike with a metallic clang. Kael barely had time to blink before the leader¡¯s gauntleted fist smashed into his chest, sending him flying. He hit the ground hard, the air driven from his lungs. His [Flame Blade] clattered out of his hand, the fire dimming as it fell. "Is this all you¡¯ve got?" the leader sneered, his greatsword resting on his shoulder. He began to close the distance between them, his steps measured and deliberate. Kael scrambled to his feet, his vision swimming. He lunged for his sword, fingers closing around the hilt just as the leader brought his weapon down again. Kael managed to roll out of the way, the blade slamming into the dirt where he had just been. The shockwave from the strike sent him tumbling further. Desperation clawed at Kael''s mind. This wasn''t a fight¡ªthis was a slaughter. He could barely keep up with the man''s relentless power and speed. The leader raised his sword again, and this time, Kael knew he wouldn¡¯t be able to dodge. The greatsword came down like a falling star, and Kael raised his [Flame Blade] in a final, desperate attempt to block. The impact shattered the air around them. Sparks and flames erupted as the two weapons collided, but the force was too much. Kael¡¯s knees buckled, and his sword snapped under the pressure, the once-mighty flames extinguishing with a pitiful hiss. Kael was thrown backward, hitting the ground with a bone-rattling thud. He gasped for air, the broken hilt of his sword still clutched in his trembling hand. The leader stood over him, his greatsword raised for the final blow. "You fought well," he said, almost respectfully. "But this is where it ends." Kael closed his eyes, bracing for the inevitable. Then all went dark Next thing Kael knew he was back on his way to the city however it wasn¡¯t by his usual method of travel. He was in a cage, one that was being wheeled by two horses surrounded by a convoy of armed men, but before he knew it he was just too exhausted to keep his eyes open and ended up back asleap. Kael''s eyes fluttered open, the pounding ache in his chest making every breath a struggle. He felt cold metal shackles biting into his wrists and realized he was bound, his arms suspended above his head. The dim light in the room flickered from an oil lamp on the wall, and the air smelled of damp stone and mildew. His surroundings were unfamiliar, a far cry from the forest or his family''s modest home. "He''s awake," a gruff voice called out, and Kael tilted his head to see the leader of the convoy standing by the door. His greatsword rested against the wall, a smug grin spread across his scarred face. Two other armed men flanked him, their hands resting on the hilts of their weapons. "Where am I?" Kael croaked, his voice raspy and weak. "You¡¯ll find out soon enough," the leader replied. "Someone wanted to see you. Said you¡¯d be... interesting." The door creaked open, and a man stepped into the room. He was older, perhaps in his late fifties, but his posture and sharp gaze betrayed a vitality that belied his age. His clothes were immaculate¡ªa finely tailored black coat with silver trim, a sign of wealth and status. He carried himself with an air of authority, and the men in the room visibly stiffened at his presence. "Ah, so this is the boy causing all the trouble," the man said, his voice smooth and cold. He approached Kael, his polished boots clicking against the stone floor. "You''re quite the enigma, aren¡¯t you? Surviving that beating and still daring to draw your little flaming sword against my men. Impressive, if reckless." Kael met the man''s eyes, his jaw clenched despite the pain. "Who are you?" Victor chuckled, the sound laced with condescension. "Oh, how rude of me. Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Victor Drell. Perhaps you''ve heard of me¡ªor, more likely, you''ve heard of my enterprise. Drell Enterprises." The name struck a chord in Kael¡¯s memory. His grandfather¡¯s tales of their once-thriving smithing business often mentioned Drell Enterprises as their fiercest competitor. This man¡¯s reputation was as ruthless as the stories painted him¡ªcrushing rivals without hesitation. ¡°So, that¡¯s what this is about?¡± Kael spat, his voice filled with defiance. ¡°Still holding grudges against a man who¡¯s been dead for years?¡± Victor¡¯s smirk widened. "When you put it like that, boy, you make me sound petty. And you''d be correct¡ªI am petty. But I¡¯m also practical. Your grandfather¡¯s shadow looms larger than you realize, and now you carry the remnants of his legacy. Let¡¯s just say I don¡¯t like loose ends.¡± Victor¡¯s cold stare bore into Kael, and the weight of his words felt heavier than the shackles Kael wore. Before Kael could respond, Victor turned to his guards. ¡°Say goodbye to the sky for a long while, boy. Lock him up.¡± The guards grabbed Kael roughly, hauling him out of the room. They dragged him down a narrow staircase, the air growing colder and damper with every step. Kael¡¯s boots scraped against the stone steps as they descended, the faint sound of dripping water echoing off the walls. He could practically feel the moisture clinging to his skin, a prelude to whatever grim place they were taking him. They stopped in front of a heavy iron door. One of the guards unlocked it with a rusty key, the screech of metal grating against Kael¡¯s ears. As the door creaked open, Kael was greeted by a sight that made his stomach twist. Beyond the door was a dimly lit hall lined with rows of cells, at least thirty in total. Each cell was small and cramped, the iron bars rusted and stained. What truly caught Kael¡¯s attention, however, were the prisoners. Most of them wore inhibitors¡ªcrude-looking metal bands affixed to their wrists, necks, or ankles. These devices were designed to suppress abilities, cutting people off from their magic or essence entirely. The despair on their faces, the hollow look in their eyes, told Kael everything he needed to know. This wasn¡¯t just a prison. It was a place where potential was smothered, where power was stripped away and lives were reduced to shadows of their former selves. The guards shoved him forward, and Kael stumbled into one of the empty cells. He landed hard on the damp stone floor, his wrists aching from the impact. Before he could get up, the door slammed shut behind him, and the heavy click of the lock sealed his fate. Kael pushed himself up slowly, glancing around his new prison. The cell was as grim as the hallway¡ªa small space with a straw mat in one corner and a rusted bucket in the other. The air was thick with the stench of mildew and despair. Kael leaned back against the wall, his mind racing. Victor Drell¡¯s words echoed in his ears. This wasn¡¯t just about him¡ªit was about his family¡¯s legacy, his grandfather¡¯s shadow, and the power he himself had begun to cultivate. Drell didn¡¯t just want to imprison him; he wanted to erase him, to snuff out any potential threat Kael could pose. Chapter 8 Kael had been in the damp, suffocating confines of the cell for about a week now, and every second felt like an eternity. The days blurred together in a monotonous cycle of darkness and the faint glow of lanterns flickering in the hall. The only signs of life came when a guard would slide a wooden bowl of unidentifiable slop through the small opening at the bottom of the door. The slop was barely edible, a gritty mix that tasted like dirt and rot, but it was enough to keep him alive¡ªbarely. His body ached from the hard stone floor, and his muscles were beginning to feel weak from the lack of proper food and movement. Yet, his mind refused to surrender. Kael spent most of his time trying to make sense of his situation and forming plans. None of them had progressed beyond the daydreaming stage. Then he heard a voice from his right, it was coming from the neighbouring cell ¡°hey¡± Kael turned his head sharply, startled by the sound. For the past week, the other cells had been mostly silent, their occupants either too beaten down to speak or uninterested in conversation. The voice came again, clearer this time. ¡°You. New guy. What¡¯s your name?¡± Kael hesitated, unsure whether to engage. He shifted slightly, trying to peer through the bars separating his cell from the next, but the dim light made it impossible to see the speaker. After a moment, he decided there was no harm in answering. ¡°Kael,¡± he said, his voice low. ¡°Who¡¯s asking?¡± A dry chuckle echoed from the other side. ¡°Salvador the red, or just call me Sal¡± Kael couldn¡¯t help but be amused did this man just call himself, Salvador the red? A slight snigger came out of. ¡°Salvador the red¡± Kael repeated with sarcasm ¡°I guess you¡¯ve never heard of us then, shame, we are but a humble¡group¡± ¡°Right¡okay. Do you know if anyone ever leaves this place?¡± Kael asked, his voice tinged with frustration. ¡°There¡¯s only one way out, other than through those doors,¡± Salvador replied, his voice dark with an unsettling calm. ¡°And that¡¯s below.¡± Kael raised an eyebrow in confusion. ¡°Below? What do you mean by that?¡± ¡°Exactly what I said,¡± Sal continued. ¡°There are tunnels beneath this place, hidden away. But trust me, they¡¯re more of a death trap than these cells ever could be.¡± ¡°Why¡¯s that?¡± Kael asked, curiosity piqued despite the foreboding tone in Salvador¡¯s voice. ¡°Because of the abomination,¡± Salvador said, his voice dropping to a near whisper. ¡°There¡¯s a creature down there, one that no one has ever survived long enough to tell the tale about. It¡¯s said to be Gold rank, maybe even higher.¡± Kael¡¯s gut tightened. Gold rank? He¡¯d heard of such creatures, but they were as rare as they were deadly. To be trapped in a place like this, with something of that caliber lurking below¡ He couldn¡¯t help but wonder if Salvador was exaggerating¡ªor if this abomination was truly as dangerous as he made it sound or even if it existed at all. ¡°I can give you a passage down there if you¡¯d like? It would only cost 10 or so lives up to you¡± Slightly shocked Kael responded, ¡°huh lives, what are you talking about?¡± Salvador¡¯s voice returned, now deeper and more cryptic. ¡°Like I said, it¡¯s up to you.¡± Then, without another word, he disappeared from view, retreating further into his own cell. Kael sat in silence for a moment, trying to process what had just been said he didn¡¯t even know what to think of this Salvador the red or whatever his name was has the guy gone crazy from imprisonment? Then another thought came to mind, Ten lives? The thought echoed in his mind, making his stomach twist uncomfortably. Sacrificing lives? What could it even entail? was this some kind of twisted joke? But Salvador hadn¡¯t seemed like he was kidding. The mention of the tunnels, the gold-rank creature, and now this strange, cryptic exchange it all felt like a trap. But could Kael afford to ignore it? The abomination and the tunnels Salvador had spoken of could very well be the only way out of this hellhole. For a few moments, Kael simply stared into the shadows of his cell, his mind racing. He had been trapped in this miserable place for far too long, and the thought of facing that creature, of entering the tunnels below, made his blood run cold. But the idea of staying here, without any hope, was even worse. What if there¡¯s some truth to it? Kael thought. What if this is my only chance? He gritted his teeth, pushing the discomfort aside. No matter how twisted Salvador¡¯s offer seemed, the idea of escape was too tempting. But ten lives? That number was grotesque. It seemed almost impossible¡ªhow could Kael justify such a price? Kael leaned against the cold stone wall, his thoughts clouded by indecision. He hadn¡¯t even met Salvador face-to-face; everything about the man seemed off, he seemed perfectly fine at the mention of killing? Kael eventually decided that he wouldn¡¯t speak to Salvador and he would find his own way out. Kael leaned against the cold stone wall of his cell, deep in thought. The hours had turned into days, and the days had turned into weeks, but one thing hadn''t changed: he was still trapped. His meals were sparse, his body was growing weaker, and the prospect of staying here indefinitely gnawed at him. He couldn''t afford to waste time anymore. The conversation with Salvador had haunted him. Kael eventually realised that here was no way out, there was always two guards keeping watch and they seemed to be about as strong as Kael even without his power being repressed by the chains with no gaps in their shifts, the bars were simply unbendable and all this got to his head an in the end.If you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen from Royal Road. Please report it. ¡°Salvador!" Kael called, his voice raspy from disuse. He didn¡¯t want to ask, didn¡¯t want to lower himself to the man¡¯s twisted offer, but the desperation in his chest won out. He had enough. Enough of the cage, enough of the fear, enough of waiting. He wanted out. He needed out. After a long, unsettling silence, Salvador¡¯s voice, laced with amusement, drifted through the bars between them. "So, the puppy crawls to the bone, huh? Come to beg, have you?" Kael swallowed hard. The last thing he wanted was to appear weak, but the reality was undeniable¡ªhe had no choice. "You¡¯re right," Kael said, his voice steady despite the bitterness pooling in his stomach. "I¡¯ve had enough. How do we get out?" ¡°well, that¡¯s simple really dear pup, you see all those other cell mates, well lets just say they will be helping us¡± ¡°What does that mean, stop speaking in riddles Salvador¡± Kael wasn¡¯t in the mood for his games and just wanted to escape Salvador didn¡¯t seem to be bothered by Kael¡¯s frustration. Instead, his voice remained calm, almost amused. "How about I show you?" Before Kael could respond, Salvador stretched his hands out in front of him, his fingers splayed wide like he was grasping something invisible his fingers popped in and out the sockets sometimes twisting at unnatural angles, The air around him seemed to ripple with tension. His fingers were straining, muscles trembling as if the effort was too much, but he kept his focus. Then, with a voice that was both alien and commanding, Salvador spoke in an unknown language, the words laced with a dark power that sent a shiver down Kael¡¯s spine. The sound was unlike anything Kael had ever heard¡ªtwisted syllables, reverberating with a sinister energy. Suddenly, the air around them grew thick with something Kael couldn¡¯t see but could feel. A cacophony of screams erupted from the other cells, loud and frantic, the sound piercing through the stone walls. Kael¡¯s eyes widened as he watched in horror. The prisoners around them¡ªdozens of them¡ªbegan to lift off the ground, their bodies writhing and spasming uncontrollably as if they were caught in an invisible grip. The sounds of their agony filled the air as their flesh seemed to stretch and contort, their faces twisted in torment. Then, without warning, it happened. The prisoners imploded in a horrific burst of blood, their bodies disintegrating into nothing but gore. The blood splattered in every direction, but it didn¡¯t fall randomly. Instead, it swirled and twisted in the air, forming a grotesque, pulsing star-shaped pattern, the blood itself moving with an unnatural grace, as though it were being controlled by some invisible force. Kael recoiled, his stomach churning at the sight. His mind was reeling, struggling to process the brutal, graphic spectacle unfolding before him. But he couldn''t look away. The blood, once in the shape of a twisted star, rushed toward Salvador in a torrent, as if it were being drawn to him by some unseen force. Salvador stood there, unblinking, his eyes closed in concentration as the blood gathered around him then entered his chest, Kael was speechless, his legs shaking from the sheer terror of it all. Finally, Salvador opened his eyes, and Kael saw something dark and merciless flicker behind them. "There," Salvador said, his voice a low, satisfied murmur. "That¡¯s what I mean by a price. Ten lives. I told you there was power in sacrifice." Kael could feel the aura coming from the man and it was the most intense thing he had ever felt, it was strong, very strong he could kill Kael if he wanted to and Kael knew that. Suddenly Salvador smashed the floor and it crumbled Kael fell amongst the rubble down further and further from his cage he once stayed a couple of weeks in. he knew he was heading towards those underground tunnels however he didn¡¯t know whether to be more scared to the abomination down there or Salvador, he was clearly of the gold rank at least from what sunny knew. The fall finally came to a stop with a large splash, he fell he had fallen into a large body of water right in the centre of the cavern he couldn¡¯t see the bottom, just endless blackness stretching below him, and the pressure of the water around him made it clear that this wasn¡¯t just a shallow pool. His heart raced as he struggled to keep his bearings in the darkness, his mind racing through the worst possible scenarios. Panic clawed at him for a moment he was going to drown. but he pushed it aside, forcing himself to focus. He needed to swim, needed to find his way out of this submerged abyss before something worse found him. He took a deep breath, trying to calm his racing thoughts, then started to paddle toward the surface, his eyes straining against the darkness, his hand cutting through the water. As he swam upward, Kael''s thoughts drifted to the unknown dangers lurking beneath the surface. There could be creatures in these waters¡ªcreatures that had made this cavern their home for who knew how long. The thought made his heart pound faster, and his strokes grew more frantic, but he forced himself to steady his breathing, to focus. He couldn¡¯t afford to panic now. The water felt cold, the kind of cold that seeped into your bones. The further he swam, the darker the water became, His muscles screamed in protest, but he pushed through the pain, desperate to escape whatever horrors awaited him below. Finally, after what felt like an eternity, Kael¡¯s head broke the surface of the water. He gasped for air, gulping it down greedily as he scanned his surroundings. The cavern was even more immense than he had imagined. The ceiling stretched up impossibly high, disappearing into the darkness above, and the cavern floor was far too distant to see. The water stretched as far as the eye could see, filling the space with an eerie silence that seemed to reverberate in his skull. But that silence was deceptive. The faint tremors beneath the surface made Kael freeze, every nerve on edge. He wasn¡¯t alone. A low, guttural sound echoed from somewhere deep in the water, just beyond the reach of his glowing blade¡¯s light. Kael''s heart skipped a beat. The sound grew louder, closer, and Kael could feel something moving beneath him, shifting in the darkness, something huge, something monstrous. He didn¡¯t wait to see what it was. Instinct took over. Kael pushed himself harder, swimming towards the edge of the cavern, toward one of the dark tunnels he could just make out on the far wall. He didn¡¯t care what lay ahead¡ªanything was better than staying in this water with whatever was lurking beneath him. His arms burned as he fought against the current and the fatigue. He could still hear the movement below, the heavy splash of something enormous swimming just beneath the surface. It was closing in on him. But he was almost there. With one final push, Kael reached the edge of the water and scrambled onto the rocky shore, pulling himself out of the cavernous pool. He lay there, panting heavily, his chest heaving with exertion as the cool air of the cavern washed over him. His heart still raced as he dared a glance back at the water, expecting to see something rise up from the depths. But there was nothing. For now, at least. Kael took a moment to steady himself, wiping the sweat and water from his face as he gathered his bearings. The tunnel he had swum toward was narrow and steep, but it led upward, which was a good sign. The last thing he wanted was to get further lost in the depths of this underground labyrinth. With a steadying breath, Kael stood up, his muscles aching from the swim. He took a few cautious steps, his hand resting on the hilt of his [Flame Blade]. The cavern was eerily silent now, but he could still feel the tension in the air. He had no idea what awaited him next, but there was no turning back. The only way was forward. As Kael ventured deeper into the vast open cavern, he couldn''t shake the feeling that something was still out there, lurking in the darkness, waiting. He had to stay alert¡ªwhatever he had escaped in the water might be just the beginning of the horrors this underground world held. Chapter 9 In the cavern Kael was also wondering about the other big threat and that was of course Salvador. He had no clue what his intentions were and even why he decided to help, it was all a big mystery. And who was that guy? I thought the only gold rank in the city was the lord. maybe, Salvador was only silver rank but got his power bolstered by the sacrifice? That was a possibility. Well no point pondering on that for too long I now have to worry about whatever monsters may be down here and most of all finding a way out. Kael pressed on, his mind still swirling with questions, but he forced himself to stay focused. He could feel the oppressive atmosphere of the cavern closing in around him, the air thick with the scent of earth and dampness. There was no telling what kind of creatures could be lurking here, waiting for the perfect moment to strike. Every shadow seemed to move, every flicker of light from his sword felt like it might reveal something lurking just out of sight. Kael remained vigilant, scanning the dark spaces around him, his senses heightened. Kael felt movement behind him, quickly spinning with [Flame blade] summoned he managed to cut the head off a rather large bat just before it manged to bear its fangs into him, that was close, Kael inspected the body of the bat noticing that it had some sort of bubbling corruption growing on it like so vile growth. Kael instinctively took a step back away from the bubbling corruption using some innate danger sense. The cavern stretched on ahead, and Kael knew he couldn''t afford to linger. If there were creatures down here like that bat, then it was only a matter of time before something even worse showed itself. As he cautiously advanced, the atmosphere seemed to grow thicker, the air heavier. The feeling of being watched was almost overwhelming. The shadows between the rock formations were deep, and the faintest sounds in the distance made Kael¡¯s senses flare. Kael decided to keep moving, his footsteps silent against the stone floor. The soft echo of his footsteps felt unnaturally loud in the oppressive silence. He glanced behind him, half-expecting something to be lurking just beyond the edge of his vision. He couldn¡¯t afford to become complacent. The tunnel wound and twisted, and it wasn¡¯t long before Kael realized the path was becoming more treacherous. The ground was slippery, and he had to constantly watch his step to avoid slipping. The further he went, the more the air seemed to thicken with a sense of dread, as if the cavern itself was alive and watching his every move. As he continued forward, the faint glow from his sword illuminated strange symbols carved into the walls. They seemed to pulse with an eerie light, but whenever Kael tried to focus on them, they seemed to shift in his peripheral vision, almost as if they were alive. His unease grew, but there was no turning back now. Focus, Kael. Stay sharp. He pressed on, trying to ignore the unsettling atmosphere. He couldn¡¯t afford to let his fear take control, not in a place like this. But the feeling of something following him, of something just out of sight, wouldn¡¯t leave. It was a feeling he couldn¡¯t shake, no matter how many times he glanced over his shoulder. A sound from ahead broke his concentration¡ªa low, guttural growl that echoed through the tunnel. Kael froze, every muscle tensing as his mind raced. The growl came again, louder this time, followed by the sound of heavy footsteps. Great. More monsters. Just what I need. Kael''s grip tightened on his [Flame Blade], ready for whatever came next. The shadows ahead seemed to shift, and then, just as he was about to move, a figure stepped out from the darkness. A hulking creature, its body covered in scales, stepped into view. Its eyes glowed a fierce yellow, and its sharp claws scraped against the stone floor as it advanced toward Kael. It was a beast¡ªsomething Kael had only seen in stories. A grotesque amalgamation of an ogre and a reptilian creature, its bulk filling the narrow tunnel, blocking any escape. Its mouth opened, revealing rows of jagged teeth as it let out a deafening roar, causing the walls to tremble. Kael took a deep breath, his heart racing, but he didn¡¯t hesitate. He was ready. He had to be. With a swift motion, he swung his sword, the flames leaping along its length as he slashed at the creature¡¯s chest. The beast roared in pain, but its thick scales barely seemed to register the hit. Kael didn¡¯t let that discourage him. He had to find a weak spot, something to exploit. The tale has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation. The creature lunged, its claws aiming for Kael¡¯s throat, but he was already moving, ducking under its massive arms and thrusting his blade forward. This time, it found purchase¡ªdeep into the creature¡¯s side, where the scales were thinner. The creature howled in fury, swiping at Kael with wild abandon. Kael danced back, narrowly avoiding the claw strike. He was fast, but he knew he couldn¡¯t keep this up for long. The beast was powerful, and the tunnel left him no room to maneuver. He needed to finish this, and quickly. Kael¡¯s mind raced, trying to think of his next move. He needed to exploit the creature¡¯s blind spots¡ªits slow reactions and its vulnerability when it attacked. Every swing of his sword seemed to get slower, the fatigue of the fight catching up with him. It seemed that the scaled ogre monster had noticed this as well, making use of Kael¡¯s sudden fatigue it lunged forward with a scary amount of speed for its size and landed a blow right at Kael¡¯s abdomen, causing him to fly backward flying large pillar of sone that was sticking out the floor, Kael picked himself up from the floor still hunched over, but he had to react quick because the ogre was already coming with a follow up blow that was ready to put Kael into the ground for good. the creature¡¯s clawed hand came crashing down toward him, its sheer force causing the air around it to snap. The pain in his abdomen flared as he struggled to his feet, his vision blurry from the impact, but he knew he had no time to waste. With his breath coming in ragged gasps, Kael used every ounce of his strength to roll to the side, narrowly dodging the ogre¡¯s follow-up blow. The ground cracked beneath the creature¡¯s massive hand, sending jagged rocks flying in all directions. Kael¡¯s heart raced as he scrambled to his feet, eyes darting around for an escape. No time for that. I need to end this. The ogre growled, its yellow eyes locking onto him with predatory hunger. It didn¡¯t give Kael a chance to recover; it was already charging again, its feet pounding the ground with each step. But Kael wasn¡¯t about to give in. He gritted his teeth and held his ground, summoning the full fury of his [Flame Blade]. The sword blazed brighter, its crimson flames licking at the air, crackling like an inferno. Kael wasn¡¯t just fighting for survival anymore. He was fighting to get out of this hellhole¡ªand he wasn¡¯t going to let this monster stop him. The ogre roared as it closed the distance, its claws outstretched, ready to tear Kael apart. Kael waited until the last possible moment, then sprang into action. With a burst of speed, he darted toward the creature¡¯s massive arm, using the momentum to twist under its attack. In one fluid motion, Kael brought his sword up, aiming for the weak spot where the creature¡¯s neck met its shoulders. The blade connected with the ogre¡¯s flesh, and the flames of the [Flame Blade] surged, cutting through the thick scales as though they were paper. The creature howled in agony, its body recoiling from the pain, but Kael wasn¡¯t finished. With another powerful thrust, he drove the sword deeper, aiming for its heart. The ogre let out one final roar of rage before collapsing, its massive body slamming to the ground with a deafening crash that sent shockwaves through the cavern. Kael stood over the fallen beast, his chest heaving as he fought to catch his breath. His muscles burned, and his vision swam with exhaustion. Blood dripped from his sword, and the smell of scorched flesh filled the air. That... that was too close. Kael felt the usual essence enter his chest however this time it overwhelmed him a little it felt about twice as much as he usually received. Was that ogre silver rank? That would explain why that fight was so hard. Kael managed to collect 4 large fangs from the body and after so long not being able to use his power he felt a longing for it and after a glimmer of light a pendent with a fang hanging from it was left. [ogre fang pendent] [equipment] [silver] [increases the strength of the wearer] The description was rather simple but that is all it needed to be as soon as he put the pendent around his neck, he felt an increase in strength close to when he consumed the rhino marrow and it felt invigorating. Not stopping for too long Kael carried on through cavern. If that ogre was silver rank and its one of the first of the creatures, I¡¯ve seen then that makes me wonder what the rank of this caverns overlord is, could it be something beyond gold? It really got Kael on edge and of course he couldn¡¯t forget about Salvador. Kael carried on making his way over towards the edge of the cavern aiming to try his chances with the tunnels for a way out of here. While walking Kael decided to ponder about how this new world works, he only knew little bits that he had heard around the market as well as what little he had inherited from this body itself. from what he knew you simply had to consume essence from defeated monsters to saturate something within, what that was he was still unsure of, then you¡¯d eventually rank up after full saturation has been reached however he heard there was also another process involved in reaching the gold rank which he had no clue about, as well as that he also had no clue what even came after gold he assumed it wasn¡¯t the last rung on the ladder, however that wasn¡¯t for Kael to worry about currently, he needed to experiment with his fusion ability and escape from this cave. A few of the bronze tier bats had attacked him on his journey however none of them were a match for his new might, often taking only a minimum of one attack to kill. He could feel that he was a little over a quarter of the way to the silver rank and he knew he would have plenty of opportunities to get closer to that mark while in the cavern. Chapter 10 Kael managed to reach the tunnels at the edge of the cavern, on the way killing another 10 of those bats, he realised that only some of them had that corruption on their skin so it wasn¡¯t inherit to the bats. not just this but also the bats with the corruption were actually stronger than the ordinary ones, like the corruption was some form of enhancement. Kael eyed the tunnel like cave, unable to see more than 10 meters in front of himself which caused some dread to rise inside of him however as quick as it appeared he had also pushed it away, he started walking slowly at first trying to keep his eyes locked onto every single direction, but what caught his eye was the strange runic letters were on the wall again and like before they would disappear before he could even try to make sense of them. This place was all just a big mystery, in fact now that he thought about it he still didn¡¯t even know where they were, they could be on a different continent for all Kael knew so escaping wasn¡¯t just the end of this whole ordeal he now had something else to worry about. Kael''s pace slowed as his eyes caught another glimmer of the runic letters etched into the walls. He squinted, trying to study them before they faded away, but once again, they dissolved like smoke the moment his gaze fixed on them. "Damn it," Kael muttered under his breath. What were they? Warnings? Directions? Or something entirely incomprehensible? He briefly entertained the idea that the corruption and the runes were somehow connected. But without more information, it was nothing more than speculation. Kael carried on walking down the tunnel again and Soon, he spotted a small alcove carved into the rock, a faint stench wafting from its depths. Moving closer, he squinted to see inside. His heart skipped a beat when his eyes landed on a sleeping ogre sprawled across a bed of straw. It had fashioned itself a crude lair, complete with a scattered pile of bones in the corner¡ªgrim remnants of its past victims. Kael tightened his grip on the hilt of his [Flame Blade], steadying his breathing as he assessed the situation. The ogre was massive, its chest rising and falling with each thunderous snore. Its thick, grey skin looked tough, but Kael knew the neck was its weak spot. He wasn¡¯t about to let this chance slip by. Step by step, he crept into the alcove, the sound of his boots muffled against the damp stone. Each breath felt louder than it should, his heartbeat pounding in his ears. The ogre shifted slightly in its sleep, letting out a guttural snort, and Kael froze, every muscle tensing. When it didn¡¯t stir further, he resumed his approach until he was standing right beside the hulking creature. With practiced precision, Kael raised his blade high above his head. In one swift, deliberate motion, he drove the fiery sword straight through the ogre¡¯s neck. The blade tore through its thick flesh like butter, emerging on the other side with a clang as it struck the stone floor. The ogre¡¯s body jerked violently, its eyes snapping open in a fleeting moment of shock and pain. It let out a choked, gurgling sound before slumping lifelessly onto the straw. Blood pooled beneath it, sizzling as it met the heat of the flame still radiating from Kael''s sword. Kael stepped back, wiping a bead of sweat from his brow. The air reeked of charred flesh and decay, and his pulse was still racing from the tense execution. Despite his exhaustion, he couldn¡¯t deny the small surge of satisfaction. Another threat neutralized, and this time, without a drawn-out fight. Kael decided he would use the ogres home as his own for a while, he needed a rest and some time to think, while he was sitting on the ogres makeshift bed he harvested the fangs from the ogre again fusing into the same pendent that he achieved last time but now he was ging to fuse them both together. [ogre fang pendent] [equipment] [silver] [increases the strength of the wearer] And then after the fusion had taken place: [ogre chieftain¡¯s fang pendent] [equipment] [silver] [increases the strength and vitality of the wearer] It was still the same rank however he could instantly feel the changes that had gone underway, not only did he feel his bones and joints strengthen but he also now felt like he had more life throughout his whole body, if he faced that ogre again he knew he could take a few hits and he¡¯d still be standing. Kael¡¯s thoughts were interrupted by a faint sound echoing down the tunnel, a rhythmic, wet clicking noise that made his skin crawl. He instinctively extinguished the [Flame Blade] and pressed himself against the alcove wall, straining his ears. The noise grew louder, accompanied by a low, guttural growl that seemed to reverberate through the stone. This book''s true home is on another platform. Check it out there for the real experience. Whatever was coming wasn¡¯t small. Kael¡¯s fatigue evaporated in an instant. He pushed himself to his feet, his mind racing as he considered his options. The alcove provided some cover, but if the creature was hunting him by scent, he wouldn¡¯t remain hidden for long. Running blind into the tunnels wasn¡¯t appealing either¡ªhe¡¯d be vulnerable in the open, especially if this thing was faster than him. He unsheathed the [Flame Blade] once more, the light cutting through the oppressive darkness. The wet clicking stopped, replaced by a guttural snarl that sounded far too close for comfort. A hulking silhouette emerged from the darkness at the edge of his vision. It was massive, standing at least twice the height of the ogre he¡¯d just slain, its form grotesquely twisted and pulsating with patches of that bubbling corruption. Long, jagged claws clicked against the ground as it moved forward, and its glowing, yellow eyes locked onto him with predatory intent it looked like a werewolf from the mythology he had in his old life, but somehow even worse. Kael¡¯s grip on his sword tightened. "Great," he muttered under his breath, his voice laced with a mix of sarcasm and dread. "Of course, it couldn¡¯t have been just one ogre." The creature let out an earsplitting roar, shaking the very walls of the tunnel. Kael steeled himself, drawing upon every ounce of his strength and determination. He didn¡¯t know what this thing was, but one thing was certain: he was going to have to kill it¡ªor die trying. With a defiant shout, Kael charged forward, his [Flame Blade] igniting the darkness as he prepared to face this new nightmare. The beast crouched low, its sinewy muscles coiling like springs, and before Kael could even fully register the movement, it launched itself forward with explosive speed. One moment, it was in front of him; the next, his feet were no longer on solid ground. The force of its movement alone sent Kael tumbling backward, his body slamming hard against the rocky floor. Kael scrambled to his feet, his heart pounding in his chest. His eyes darted around the tunnel, but the creature had already vanished into the shadows. A chilling silence followed, broken only by the distant dripping of water echoing through the cavern. The air was thick with tension, his breathing loud in his ears as he tried to locate the beast. ¡°Great,¡± Kael muttered, gripping his [Flame Blade] tightly. ¡°Not only is it fast, but it¡¯s smart too.¡± His knuckles whitened around the hilt as he forced himself to calm down. This wasn¡¯t a brute like the ogres¡ªit was a predator, one that knew how to use the darkness to its advantage. Kael swung his blade in a wide arc, casting its fiery glow around the space. For a brief moment, the flickering light illuminated the claw marks gouged into the walls, as if mocking him. The growl came again, low and rumbling, but this time it echoed in a way that made it impossible to pinpoint. It was as if the beast¡¯s sound was reverberating off the very walls of the cave. Kael¡¯s nerves were razor-thin, and the tension in his chest grew unbearable. He could feel his pulse hammering in his ears. Then, out of the corner of his eye, he caught a flicker of movement. Kael turned just in time to see the monstrous figure dart across the far end of the tunnel. The corrupted patches on its skin glistened like molten tar, briefly catching the glow of the blade before disappearing into the shadows once more. ¡°Enough of this,¡± Kael growled, slamming the blade into the ground. Flames erupted outward in a controlled burst, illuminating the cavern in a brief, fiery halo. The light wasn¡¯t much, but it was enough to reveal the creature¡¯s position¡ªit clung to the wall like some grotesque spider, its glowing yellow eyes locked onto him with terrifying intensity. Kael didn¡¯t hesitate. He dashed forward, summoning every ounce of strength in his legs. The beast leapt down to intercept him, its claws extended like scythes. At the last second, Kael pivoted, narrowly avoiding the beast¡¯s swipe, and brought his sword upward in a fiery arc. The blade connected with one of its clawed arms, the flames searing through flesh and corrupted tissue. A guttural roar of pain echoed through the cavern as the beast reeled back. The creature wasn¡¯t done. Despite the wound, it charged again, its movements erratic and wild, as though driven by pure rage. Kael braced himself, his muscles screaming in protest as he parried its claws, sparks flying as steel met the creature¡¯s hardened talons. He swung again, aiming for its torso, but the beast twisted unnaturally, avoiding the strike and retaliating with a powerful swipe that raked across his chest. The blow didn¡¯t penetrate his armor, but the force sent him skidding across the ground, his back slamming into a stalagmite. Kael coughed, trying to catch his breath, but the creature was relentless. It charged him once more, its eyes blazing with predatory hunger. Kael raised his blade, summoning a desperate surge of power from within. Flames erupted along the sword¡¯s edge, brighter and hotter than before, casting shadows that danced wildly across the walls. ¡°Come on, then!¡± Kael shouted, his voice echoing defiantly. The beast lunged, jaws wide and claws aimed straight for his heart. Kael sidestepped at the last second, pivoting on his heel and driving the [Flame Blade] deep into the creature¡¯s side. The smell of burning flesh filled the air as the blade sank in, the fire spreading across its corrupted skin like wildfire. The monster thrashed wildly, slamming Kael against the wall in its desperation to dislodge him. He held firm, twisting the blade deeper until the creature let out one final, blood-curdling scream. With a tremendous crash, it collapsed to the ground, its body convulsing before finally going still. Kael staggered back, panting heavily as he pulled his sword free. The flames dimmed, leaving only the faint glow of the weapon and the dying embers of the beast¡¯s corrupted flesh. His body ached all over, but the sight of the slain monster filled him with a grim sense of accomplishment. Then he felt it, it was the usual rush of essence like he expected that thing was silver rank and a high quality one a t that if he didn¡¯t have his new medallion, he might not of survived the first strike. After the fight Kael couldn¡¯t think of anything better than to take a nap, he deserved it, he had a rough day that was full of fierce battles to the death no matter where he went, so that¡¯s what he did, he went to sleep. Chapter 11 Kael found himself standing in the cavern again, though it was different now. The rocky walls pulsated, veins of black ooze coursing through the stone like corrupted arteries. The air was heavy, filled with the acrid stench of decay, and the faint whispers of an unintelligible language echoed from every direction. The runes that had vanished before now glowed brilliantly, their light searing into his mind as if they carried some forbidden knowledge. Kael tried to move, but his legs felt as though they were weighed down by lead. The ground beneath him rippled like a living thing, squelching under his boots. He looked down and realized with horror that he wasn¡¯t standing on stone anymore but on a mass of writhing flesh, alive and diseased. Suddenly, the ground split apart, and Kael fell into an abyss, his descent rapid and terrifying. The walls around him were lined with grotesque shapes¡ªhumanoid figures trapped in the stone, their faces twisted in agony as their bodies were consumed by black corruption. Some reached for him with clawed hands, their mouths open in silent screams. Kael landed with a bone-jarring thud in a massive chamber far larger than the one he¡¯d fought the ogre in. It stretched endlessly in every direction, and at its centre was a pulsating mass of darkness. It wasn¡¯t just a creature or a force; it felt ancient, primal¡ªa being of corruption so vast that its presence seemed to warp reality itself. The entity¡¯s form was fluid and ever-changing, shifting between an enormous, many-eyed monstrosity and a swirling vortex of shadow. Its voice boomed in his mind, incomprehensible yet filled with malice, each word clawing at his sanity. Visions flooded his mind¡ªimages of creatures writhing in agony as the corruption took hold of them, transforming them into twisted, monstrous versions of themselves. He saw villages consumed by darkness, the land itself rotting and blackened as the corruption spread unchecked. Then, he saw himself, standing amidst the chaos, his body covered in the same pulsing, black substance. His sword was raised, but it wasn¡¯t burning with the familiar flames. Instead, it dripped with the same dark ooze, as though it had become an extension of the corruption. ¡°No!¡± Kael shouted, trying to shake the visions away. ¡°This isn¡¯t real!¡± The entity seemed to laugh, a deep, guttural sound that reverberated through his soul. The runic symbols appeared again, circling him, their glow intensifying until they burned into his skin. Kael clutched his head as the knowledge they carried forced its way into his mind: this corruption wasn¡¯t natural. It was created¡ªborn from an ancient ritual gone horribly wrong. Someone, or something, had tampered with forces beyond their comprehension, and now the consequences were spilling into the world. As the entity¡¯s massive form loomed closer, Kael could feel his strength being sapped. He fell to his knees, helpless as the corruption¡¯s tendrils reached for him. The voices grew louder, overlapping in a cacophony of despair, until they culminated in a single, chilling phrase: ¡°You cannot escape destiny.¡± With a jolt, Kael woke up, drenched in sweat. His breathing was ragged, his heart hammering against his ribs as though it was trying to escape his chest. He gripped his sword reflexively, its faint warmth grounding him back to reality. The cavern around him was silent, save for the occasional drip of water, but Kael couldn¡¯t shake the feeling that the dream had been more than just his subconscious playing tricks on him. He glanced at the faint glow of the runes etched into the walls nearby. They seemed¡ brighter than before, as if mocking his fear. Kael sat back against the cold stone, running a hand through his hair. ¡°Bad dream? got to say this is a nice spot you¡¯ve got here¡± Kael hearing the voice in his vicinity spun around jerking his neck towards where he heard the sound, to his ghastly surprise, sitting there on the floor next to him was Salvador, he was wearing an oversized and wrinkled cloak that you¡¯d expect an executioner to wear and he was holding some sort of oversized sickle the blade lingered well above his head, the sickle had blood dripping from it onto the floor but what made it even scarier was the smile on the old mans face. Kael¡¯s grip on his sword tightened instinctively as he faced Salvador. The old man¡¯s presence was like a smothering shadow, filling the space with an oppressive weight that made Kael¡¯s skin crawl. Salvador¡¯s grin was impossibly wide, stretching his weathered face into something grotesque, and his eyes gleamed with a mix of amusement and malice. ¡°Salvador¡¡± Kael growled, forcing his voice to steady despite the dread pooling in his gut. ¡°What the hell are you doing here?¡± The old man chuckled, a raspy, unsettling sound that echoed in the cavern. ¡°Oh, you know me, boy. Just taking a stroll, enjoying the sights. Thought I¡¯d drop in and see how you¡¯re holding up. Looks like I arrived just in time¡ªbad dreams can leave a man feeling a little¡vulnerable.¡± Kael rose to his feet, keeping his sword at the ready, its faint flame casting flickering shadows on the walls. ¡°How did you even find me here? And what¡¯s with that¡ thing?¡± He nodded toward the oversized sickle, the blade¡¯s crimson trail seeming to writhe unnaturally as it dripped onto the floor.Unauthorized duplication: this narrative has been taken without consent. Report sightings. Salvador glanced at the weapon, tilting his head as if considering it for the first time. ¡°Oh, this? Just a little keepsake from my¡group. Gets the job done, wouldn¡¯t you say?¡± He leaned forward, resting the sickle across his lap, the motion casual yet deliberate, as if daring Kael to make a move. ¡°But enough about me. Let¡¯s talk about you, Kael.¡± ¡°I¡¯m not interested in talking,¡± Kael snapped, though his unease betrayed his bravado. ¡°Whatever you¡¯re here for, get it over with and leave.¡± ¡°Fiery as ever,¡± Salvador said, his grin widening impossibly further. ¡°But that dream of yours¡ it wasn¡¯t just a dream, was it? You felt it. Saw it. That pulsing darkness, the runes, the corruption. It¡¯s calling to you, boy. Whispering in your ear, promising all sorts of things, I have it too, so does everyone that encounters..it.¡± Kael stiffened. ¡°What do you know about it?¡± Salvador¡¯s laughter was cold and hollow. ¡°More than you could imagine. That corruption you¡¯re so eager to learn about? It¡¯s not just down here, Kael. It¡¯s everywhere. And it¡¯s not just random. It¡¯s looking for something.¡± Kael¡¯s mind raced. Was Salvador trying to manipulate him again? ¡°And let me guess, you know exactly what it¡¯s after, don¡¯t you?¡± ¡°I don¡¯t, some people have came up with ideas but no one really knows, they just know that even diamond rank individuals can¡¯t even overcome so patches of corruption, however we¡¯re in luck as this is a really weak source that hasn¡¯t been able to have a proper feast yet¡± ¡°Did you say diamond rank? Is that the rank that comes after gold?¡± Kael was left stupefied he had never hear anyone talk of a rank past gold and maybe now was his chance to understand this world some more. ¡°You¡¯re half right, boy,¡± Salvador said with a faint sneer, his tone laced with condescension. ¡°Diamond does come after gold, but that¡¯s also where you¡¯re wrong. There¡¯s another rank between them¡ªplatinum. And yes, since you seem so eager to know, there are ranks beyond diamond as well.¡± Kael froze, the weight of Salvador¡¯s words hitting him like a collapsing tunnel. His entire understanding of the world, fragile as it was, crumbled in an instant. He had suspected there might be more ranks beyond gold¡ªit seemed logical in a world of constant growth and power¡ªbut he¡¯d dismissed the idea after hearing nothing to support it during his months trapped in this place. The knowledge that not one, but several tiers of strength lay beyond anything he could currently fathom left his thoughts in disarray. ¡°Wait... platinum? More ranks?¡± Kael finally stammered, his mind racing. ¡°Why hasn¡¯t anyone mentioned this before? How is this not common knowledge?¡± Salvador chuckled darkly, the sound like dry leaves rustling in the wind. ¡°Common knowledge? What a quaint notion. Let me educate you, boy. The ranks above gold aren¡¯t some public achievement for peasants to gossip about. They¡¯re guarded secrets, known only to those who have the power¡ªor the ambition¡ªto seek them. Do you think the lords of your city would allow the common folk to know just how far beneath them they truly stand? No, they let you believe that gold is the pinnacle, so you stay content in your little cages, dreaming of glories you¡¯ll never achieve.¡± Kael¡¯s jaw tightened. Salvador¡¯s words carried a venomous truth that he couldn¡¯t ignore. This world was built on hierarchies of power, and the higher you climbed, the fewer people there were to share the air with. ¡°And you¡¯re saying I¡¯ll never reach those ranks?¡± Kael asked, narrowing his eyes. Salvador smirked, leaning back into the shadows like a serpent coiling for another strike. ¡°Let¡¯s not delude ourselves, boy. The path to power isn¡¯t a straight line; it¡¯s a bloody labyrinth filled with predators far more cunning than you. And even if you do survive long enough to scrape the edge of gold, the gap between you and platinum will make you feel like an ant trying to topple a mountain.¡± Kael¡¯s fists clenched at his sides. He didn¡¯t need Salvador¡¯s mockery, not when his own doubts already gnawed at him. Yet, beneath the bitterness of the old man¡¯s words, there was a flicker of something else¡ªan invitation. Salvador¡¯s taunts weren¡¯t just insults; they were challenges, and Kael felt the embers of defiance begin to smoulder within him. He wanted to show this bastard how wrong he was, and Kael was also confident in himself and that was because of his fusion, without it what Salvador said might¡¯ve been true however, with it he knew he would rise beyond diamond and beyond whatever came after. ¡°Anyway, boy, my true purpose for coming here was to recruit you into my... group.¡± Salvador¡¯s voice carried a veneer of casual indifference, but the undercurrent of sarcasm and bloodlust was unmistakable. His grin widened, revealing teeth that gleamed like a predator''s. ¡°Of course, you can say no. It¡¯s not like I¡¯ll kill you or anything.¡± The weight of his words hung in the air, heavy with menace. Kael¡¯s stomach churned as Salvador leaned in slightly, his tone dropping to something far more sinister. ¡°You didn¡¯t really think I¡¯d let you live after seeing everything you did, did you?¡± Kael had been bracing for this moment. He knew what kind of person Salvador was the instant he witnessed him slaughter the other inmates without a trace of hesitation or malice. The man had killed them as if it were a mundane chore, a mere routine. Salvador didn¡¯t need a reason beyond convenience or necessity¡ªan idea that terrified Kael more than any amount of rage or vengeance. ¡°Do I really have a choice?¡± Kael asked, his voice steady despite the turmoil building inside him. Salvador let the question linger in the air, his expression unreadable. The silence stretched long enough for Kael to begin doubting whether he¡¯d even get an answer. Finally, Salvador chuckled, his head tilting slightly as if amused by the question itself. ¡°I¡¯ve already given you your options, haven¡¯t I?¡± Salvador replied, his tone light but laced with a threat sharper than any blade. Kael clenched his jaw, his mind racing. He hated the idea of bending to Salvador¡¯s will, hated the idea of being used by someone so monstrous. But in this moment, survival trumped pride. He wasn¡¯t in a position to fight back¡ªnot yet. ¡°Okay, fine,¡± Kael said, his voice tight with reluctant submission. ¡°I¡¯ll do as you say.¡± Salvador¡¯s grin widened, his satisfaction palpable. ¡°Good boy. I knew you had some sense in that head of yours.¡± His tone was mocking, but beneath the ridicule was a glimmer of something else¡ªanticipation, perhaps even excitement. Kael couldn¡¯t help but feel that he¡¯d just signed a contract with the devil himself. Chapter 12 After Kael struck his uneasy deal with Salvador, he noticed the strange, almost disconcerting shift in the man¡¯s demeanor. Salvador had gone from a figure dripping with menace and bloodlust to someone almost jovial¡ªchatty even. The switch was unnerving. Salvador seemed to take genuine pleasure in the twisted camaraderie he now shared with Kael, as though they were equals. ¡°You know, Kael, you¡¯ve got potential,¡± Salvador said casually, his oversized sickle resting lazily across his shoulders. The blood had dried into dark streaks along its edge. ¡°Most people, they would have begged or cried. You didn¡¯t do either. That¡¯s rare, boy. Makes me think I didn¡¯t waste my time saving your sorry hide.¡± Kael said nothing, his eyes fixed on the uneven stone floor as they trudged through yet another endless tunnel. The faint sound of dripping water echoed around them, and every shadow seemed to flicker with malice. He wasn¡¯t sure if Salvador¡¯s ¡°praise¡± was genuine or part of some elaborate mind game, but either way, he wasn¡¯t falling for it. ¡°Thanks,¡± Kael muttered dryly, not bothering to look at him. Salvador let out a bark of laughter. ¡°Ah, don¡¯t be so stiff. You¡¯ll get used to me. Or you won¡¯t, but either way, you¡¯re stuck with me for now.¡± Kael glanced at the walls around them, they had been wondering the tunnels together in hopes of finding a way out of this cavern, but with no luck, looking for anything that might give a clue to their direction. For what felt like hours, they¡¯d been searching for an exit or even a sign that they weren¡¯t just walking in circles. The runic markings appeared less frequently now, and when they did, they vanished even faster than before, as if teasing him. ¡°This is pointless,¡± Kael finally said, his frustration boiling over. He stopped walking, his hand gripping his [Flame Blade] so tightly his knuckles turned white. ¡°We¡¯ve been wandering aimlessly. There¡¯s no way out of here.¡± ¡°Ah, but there is,¡± Salvador said, his tone irritatingly smug. He tapped his temple with a bony finger. ¡°You¡¯ve just got to think a little, boy. This place? It¡¯s alive in a way. It¡¯s testing us, seeing how far we¡¯ll go. But it¡¯ll slip up eventually. They always do.¡± ¡°They?¡± Kael raised an eyebrow. Salvador smirked, his eyes glinting with something dangerous. ¡°Oh, you¡¯ll see. If we survive long enough, that is.¡± Before Kael could press him for more, the ground beneath their feet began to rumble. Small rocks and dust fell from the ceiling, and a low, guttural growl echoed from deeper within the tunnel. ¡°See what did I tell you, we¡¯re getting closer¡± Salvador almost seemed happy with himself as he said, this like he wasn¡¯t sure what he said was actually true but then he turned out to be. The two of them kept walking easily killing and prey that came after them well it was Kael that did most of the killing, Salvador had said he needed it more than he did but then didn¡¯t elaborate. As they kept walking the rumbling grew more fierce and more frequent and the creatures they encountered less so, the cave wall seemed to be a darker shade than what it was an hour ang and all of this left a feeling od dread inside of Kales stomach. They continued moving, and Kael found himself doing most of the fighting whenever creatures lunged out from the shadows. Salvador stood back, his sickle resting casually against his shoulder as he watched Kael dispatch their attackers with practiced precision. It was strange¡ªKael had expected Salvador to jump at the chance to fight, to revel in the violence ¡°What¡¯s causing the rumbling?¡± Kael asked after a particularly strong tremor nearly knocked him off balance. Salvador stopped and turned, his expression unreadable. ¡°You¡¯ll see soon enough.¡± Kael¡¯s jaw tightened. Salvador¡¯s vague answers were wearing on him, but he knew better than to press the issue further. They continued in silence, the oppressive atmosphere only growing heavier with each step. Kael was starting to get a bit bored now they had been walking this same tunnel for hours and Salvador wasn¡¯t exactly the best company, not that he¡¯d say that to his face he kept speaking in riddles again and Kael didn¡¯t like it, it made him think that something big was at the end of this tunnel. After another long few hours of walking down the tunnel it seemed to widen into another cavern but that wasn¡¯t the most striking feature, there was a large beating heart the size of a house suspended in the centre by long tendrils of corruption. ¡°What! What is that?¡± Kael almost shouted ¡°Funny you ask that, because that is our way out of here¡± Salvador responded with a hint of amusement his lips twitching to a smirk Salvador started to wander towards the overly large pulsating black heart, then wish some hesitation Kael decided to follow him towards the heart If that Is really the way out then Kael would put all his fear and instinct behind him, he was tired of strange cavern and quite frankly missed seeing the sun up in the sky, if this thing was a way out it would have to do. When they finally reach the heart, the scene is both horrifying and mesmerizing. The massive, pulsating organ looms before them, black and veined with molten gold that weaves through the chamber like arteries. Its tendrils writhe hungrily, reaching toward Kael and Salvador like sentient creatures. The narrative has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the infringement. Salvador turns to Kael, his expression unreadable at first, but then his lips curl into a chilling smile. ¡°This is it, boy,¡± he says. ¡°The end of the line... for you.¡± Kael stiffens, gripping his sword. ¡°What are you talking about?¡± ¡°well unfortunately only one of us will be able to escape, it¡¯s a true shame I was starting to like you¡± Kael summoned his [Flame blade] instantly lighting it on fire he was going to need his full strength in this fight and he knew he couldn¡¯t hold back an inch. The moment Salvador lunged at Kael, the world seemed to shrink down to the fiery clash of their blades. Salvador''s oversized scythe cleaved through the air with a haunting whistle, its crimson-stained edge leaving streaks of light in its wake. Kael twisted away just in time, feeling the displaced wind tug at his cloths, and countered with a sweeping arc of his flame blade. The blade sang as it cut toward Salvador''s midsection, but the older man spun, fluid as water, and deflected the blow with the blunt edge of his sickle. He had never thought someone with a weapon quite like his before, its long and curved blade that was adorned atop a long pole, it was made to swing in a long arc reaping lives as it did so, and with Salvador¡¯s honed technique it was hard to fight against. "Not bad," Salvador sneered, his eyes glinting with malice. "But you¡¯ll need more than a few sparks to take me down, boy." Kael didn''t respond. Words were useless against a man like Salvador. But instead, he gritted his teeth and sent a flurry of attacks in quick succession¡ªone after the other, precise in delivery. The cave lit up with bursts of orange and red as the flame blade clashed with Salvador''s, now warring in a dangerous duel of both fire and steel. Showers of sparks descended in a meteor like shower around them, their footsteps pattering against the echo within the cavern''s core mixed with the endless pulsating heartbeat of corrupted nature. It seemed like Salvador was just playing with him he didn¡¯t seem to take this fight seriously at all, almost leading Kael into a false sense of security, he knew Salvador was a lot stronger than him and a higher rank but Kael closed that physical gap with his pendent and the marrow he had consumed even so Salvador was still a little stronger. Salvador''s movements were impossibly fast for a man his age. His sickle seemed to be an extension of his own body, arcing and slashing in patterns that were as unpredictable as they were deadly. One moment he was advancing; the next, he would be falling back, luring Kael into some misstep. Kael''s instincts screamed at him to keep his guard up, but Salvador was relentless. A sweeping strike forced Kael to leap back, and before his boots even touched the ground, Salvador was already closing the gap, his sickle descending in a deadly overhead slash. Kael raised his flame blade to block, the impact jolting up his arms like a thunderclap. Salvador leaned in close, their faces mere inches apart. "You¡¯re quick," Salvador growled, his grin savage, "but quick doesn¡¯t mean alive." He pushed off, shoving Kael back with a burst of strength that sent him staggering. Kael barely had time to recover before Salvador was on him again, his sickle spinning in his hands like a whirlwind. The deadly arcs forced Kael to give ground, each dodge and parry a desperate attempt to stay ahead of Salvador''s assault. But Kael wasn''t defenseless. He flared his flame blade brighter, the heat from it making the very air shimmer. He parried perfectly, ducking under a wide swing and surging upward with a thrust aimed directly at Salvador''s exposed chest. Salvador twisted to one side, avoiding by mere inches the fatal stroke, but the tip of Kael''s blade scored along his side, opening a line of blood. The older man hissed, staggering back. "Well, well," he muttered, inspecting the wound with a grim smile. "You¡¯ve got some bite after all, I might have to take this more seriously than I thought." Kael didn''t let him. With a roar of power, he dashed with an inferno streaming at his back and delivered an almost horizontal slash, destined for Salvador''s mid-line cleaving. Salvador snapped the sickle up in time to have most of his upper body numbed by the shock waves crashing through the cavern under him. The force drove him back, boots slipping over the floor ground. "You''re stronger than you look," Salvador admitted, his voice laced with grudging respect. "But strength isn''t everything." Kael''s eyes went wide as Salvador suddenly dropped into a low stance and his sickle whirled in a deadly arc, sweeping up shards of rock and corruption-tainted energy. The edge of the sickle glowed with an eerie red light, and with a bestial roar, Salvador launched it like a whirling disc. Kael barely had time to dodge. The sickle grazed his shoulder and slammed deep into the cavern wall behind him, lodging there, heavy with power. Before Kael could take advantage of Salvador''s momentary disarmament, the older man clenched his fist, and the sickle yanked itself free, flying back into his waiting hand like a boomerang. Kael muttered a curse under his breath. Salvador wasn''t just skilled¡ªhe had tricks up his sleeve that Kael hadn''t accounted for. The battle raged on as the two opponents were going head-to-head, pushing each other to their limits. Kael''s flames grew hotter, its light casting eerie shadows on the cavern walls as Salvador''s sickle now seemed to pulse with the same rhythm as the corrupted heart, its edge glowing brighter with each clash. The two fighters revolved around each other, their weapons colliding in bursts of light and sound that shook the earth beneath them. "Why do you even fight, boy?" Salvador goaded, his voice carrying above the battle din. "You''re only putting off the inevitable. You think you''re some kind of hero? You think you can save yourself? No one can in this world." Kael didn''t answer. His focus was absolute, his every movement firing on the dual fuel of adrenaline and determination. He parried another cut, his blade slithering down the curve of Salvador''s sickle, and followed it up with a fiery upward slash that forced Salvador to leap back. But Salvador''s retreat wasn''t a sign of weakness. When he landed, he lifted his free hand, and the darkened energy around the heart gushed toward him. Tendrils of black and crimson wound around his body, soaking into his skin, as his eyes lit up with the glow of something not from this world. Kael''s stomach dropped. "What are you doing?" "Ending this," Salvador said simply. He lurched forward, faster than ever before, his sickle a blur of motion as it came down in a devastating strike. Kael barely managed to block, the force of the blow driving him to one knee. The ground cracked beneath him, the pressure threatening to shatter his very bones. Kael clenched his teeth, the flame blade burning brighter still in defiance. He bellowed in effort, sending Salvador stumbling back, and a torrent of flames erupted, engulfing the older man. Salvador emerged from the inferno, his cloak singed and his skin marked by burns, but his twisted grin remained. "You¡¯re strong," he admitted, his tone almost admiring. "But strength alone won¡¯t save you." Chapter 13 Salvador had seemed to use the corruption as an enhancement and now Kael knew he stood no chance of surviving this clash. Each of Salvador¡¯s blows can down with the weigh of a mountain, each slash with the speed of the wind Kael had to think of something and quick. He was fighting a losing battle, wounds upon wounds littered Kael¡¯s body he started to slow down subconsciously. He was losing ground. Every strike Salvador delivered came faster, harder, his corrupted strength seemingly endless. Kael''s arms burned with the effort of parrying, his muscles trembling under the strain. Salvador''s mocking laughter echoed through the cavern. "Still standing? Impressive," Salvador sneered. "But let¡¯s see how long that lasts." He spun, his sickle slicing in a wide, lethal arc. Kael ducked just in time, the blade passing mere inches above his head. He retaliated with an upward slash, flames roaring to life, but Salvador twisted out of the way, fluid as smoke, and drove a knee into Kael¡¯s gut. The force knocked the wind from Kael''s lungs, and he stumbled back, gasping for air. Salvador capitalized immediately, bringing his sickle down in a vicious overhead strike. Kael raised his blade to block, but the impact sent him sprawling to the ground, his weapon clattering from his grip. His vision blurred as he struggled to push himself up, his body screaming in protest. Salvador loomed over him, his sickle resting casually on his shoulder. "You''re tough, boy. I''ll give you that. But tough only gets you so far." Kael managed to lift his head, blood trickling down his temple. His flame blade lay just out of reach, its embers dimming. Salvador tilted his head, his grin widening as he pressed his boot against Kael''s chest, pinning him to the ground. "Any last words?" Salvador asked, lowering his sickle. The curved blade glinted in the dim, corrupted light as he brought it closer, resting it against Kael''s neck. The cold metal bit into his skin, and Kael felt the pulse of dark energy radiating from the weapon. Kael¡¯s mind raced. He was out of options, his body battered and broken. But then, an idea sparked¡ªreckless, desperate. Salvador leaned in, savoring his victory. "You fought well. Almost makes me regret this." Kael¡¯s lips curled into a faint smirk. "I¡¯m not done yet." Before Salvador could react, Kael reached out, his hand brushing against the sickle¡¯s corrupted blade. A surge of energy exploded from his palm, his fusion ability activating with raw, untamed force. The air around them crackled as the sickle began to glow, its crimson light intertwining with the fiery essence of Kael¡¯s flame blade. "What¡ªwhat are you doing?!" Salvador snarled, trying to pull the sickle away, but it wouldn¡¯t budge. The weapon trembled violently, its corrupted energy spiralling out of control. Kael gritted his teeth, focusing all his remaining strength into the fusion, his mind and soul screaming in protest as the power threatened to consume him. The flame blade ignited with renewed vigor, its fiery tendrils reaching out and wrapping around the sickle. The two weapons merged in a blinding explosion of light and heat but that wasn¡¯t the end of it, Salvador¡¯s own body started to glow slowly disintegrating ointo sparks of heavenly light merging with the sparks of his own weapon, the cavern shaking as the fusion completed. Salvador screamed , his grip on the sickle weakening as it and he transformed before his eyes. When the light faded, Kael stood, his breathing ragged but his resolve unshaken. In his hand was a new weapon¡ªa massive scythe, its blade a perfect blend of crimson corruption and roaring flames that looked thick like blood. The shaft pulsed with a faint, rhythmic glow, almost as if it were alive. "What... what have you done?!" Salvador hissed, his eyes wide with a mix of fear and rage. But what Salvador hadn¡¯t realised was that he was now not in his own body but that of the scythe. [Blood of the abyss] [weapon] [Gold (evolving)] [abilities] Sentience: this weapon has a mind of its own Evolving power: after killing an enemy this weapon can use their power [description] A scythe born from a vulgar soul and pure flames Kael would¡¯ve been looking at the weapon starstruck if it wasn¡¯t for Salvador¡¯s voice wining inside his head currently cursing his whole bloodline. But Kael blocked it all out. This is the first weapon where he had seen abilities, that confused him because didn¡¯t his [flame blade] has the ability to summon flames? Maybe that¡¯s because it came from the spell book and that was different? Or maybe that¡¯s what happened when a weapon got to the gold rank? They were questions for another time. The next big thing he saw was a messageThe narrative has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the infringement. [you have slain an inheritance user] [acquire the blood God inheritance?] Kael didn¡¯t know what this entailed he had never heard about inheritances and the Blood God sounded ominous it also didn¡¯t help the fact that it was related to Salvador Kael hesitated. He had learned the hard way that power was never truly free. Every choice had its price. But something deep within him urged him to take the offer. It was an opportunity, a chance to finally escape the shadows of those who had controlled his fate for so long. Salvador¡¯s influence had been wiped away, but now it was his turn to seize control. The system¡¯s message flashed again, the words growing louder in his mind: [Acquire the Blood God inheritance?] Kael¡¯s fingers tightened around the scythe¡¯s hilt. A surge of flame flared along its blade, a manifestation of his fiery resolve. He wasn¡¯t afraid anymore. Not of Salvador, not of the unknown. This world had already tried to break him, and he had survived. Now it was his turn to shape his destiny. He took a deep breath, his mind made up. ¡°Yes,¡± Kael muttered under his breath. ¡°I accept.¡± In that instant, the world seemed to tremble, the cavern around him vibrating with a strange energy. The scythe pulsed in his hands as the inheritance began to bind itself to him, intertwining with his very being. A searing pain shot through Kael¡¯s chest, like his heart was being torn from his body and replaced with something much darker, much more dangerous. It felt like liquid fire coursing through his veins, his blood boiling as the power of the Blood God began to consume him. His vision blurred, and for a moment, he saw the memories of Some entity¡ªhis twisted desires, his insatiable hunger for power, his disregard for life itself even his own. But those images soon faded, replaced by something else. Something... grander he usually voice of the system had changed into a deeper, darker more twisted one ancient and commanding, echoed in his mind. [Blood God inheritance] [lives: 1] [Perks] Regeneration: through blood comes the ability to reap more, completely regenerate after every life taken. Absorption: essence absorption is greatly increased Divine blood: your blood has traces of divinity, you don¡¯t bleed [Flaws] Unholy: You are susceptible to holy and light damage [abilities] Bleed: every strike will cause an enemy to keep bleeding until it was healed ???: Locked (100 lives) ???: Locked (1000 lives) ???: Locked (10,000 lives) ???: Locked (100,000 lives) ¡ Well that was a lot to take in firstly his eyes looked at his loves count or more so his kill count showing one if he focused he could feel its purpose, he knew each one of his perks as well and flaws would grow stronger if this count increased, is hand tightened around the scythe¡¯s handle. The Blood of the Abyss pulsed in response, as if sensing the weight of his decision. The power was intoxicating, more than anything he¡¯d ever felt. "Regeneration after every life..." Kael muttered to himself. He imagined it¡ªkilling, and in doing so, becoming stronger with every victory. Every cut, every wound, every drop of blood spilled would fuel him, restore him. He¡¯d be unstoppable, a true apex predator, he imagined himself in a war, could he even be stopped? Then came absorption, he focused on the meaning again and realised that the feeling when he would kill an enemy in the past and gain power, that power was essence and now the amount he would gain had increased, he knew it wasn¡¯t much currently but with every new life it could increase, this was a very scary concept it made him want to start murdering people to grow stronger he knew this was the way of this inheritance and now he couldn¡¯t see how someone could compete with an inheritance user without one it was simply impossible to imagine, then again he had managed to defeat Salvador who had this very system, but looking back on the fight Salvador did bleed, so maybe he had different perks it was hard to know. Next was the divine blood, at first glance it didn¡¯t seem too useful and when he tried to look beneath the surface again, he was obstructed like someone didn¡¯t want him to learn of its secrets, he faced a slight backlash then quickly looked away. That was strange maybe he can¡¯t know of things related to the divine. Now was time for his flaw, it wasn¡¯t much of a weakness currently however as he reaped more and more lives that weakness to holy and light damage would only increase, which was the only drawback to growing stronger this way, he suspected if there was other inheritances then they would all have some flaw like the Blood God inheritance did so they can still be defeated and exploited. Finally came his abilities, the only one he had access to was bleed, and quite frankly it was one of the strongest things he had ever seen all he would need to do was draw blood on a target and wait them out and he¡¯d eventually defeat them, however Kael knew better after looking at the description, if he left just a little wound it wouldn¡¯t cause them to bleed out so he would have to leave multiple wounds or one large one to make his enemy succumb to blood loss. Kael let out a steady breath, bringing himself back to the present. He was no longer just a man; he was something more, something that would be hard to control. He didn¡¯t know what kind of person he would become, or whether he could retain his humanity in the process. But for now, the path ahead was clear. The weight of the scythe in his hand was grounding. He couldn¡¯t afford to get lost in speculation. Right now, he had one goal¡ªto escape this cavern, to find a way out and understand more of what had happened to him. The Blood God Inheritance had unlocked something deep within him, but there was still much to learn, and the journey was just beginning. As he started to move, the scythe in his hand felt alive, pulsing with the power of the abyss. The weapon was no longer a mere tool; it was an extension of his own will. Kael could feel its hunger, its thirst for blood, its desire to grow. The path ahead was steeped in blood, and Kael couldn¡¯t help but wonder how long it would be before he¡¯d face another fight¡ªone that would make him stronger, that would bring him closer to unlocking more of the Blood God¡¯s potential. And when that day came, Kael was certain of one thing: nothing and no one would stand in his way. chapter 14 Kael approached the heart in the centre of cavern he knew that Salvador wanted to sacrifice him to this wretched heart to escape from the cavern, but he wasn¡¯t sure how he could escape now. I guess ill just have to destroy this thing. Kael lifted his new [Blood of the abyss] up into the air, he ignited the bloody like flames along its sharp blade, then in one swift motion he brought it down on the heart, the air parted way for his scythe, whistling, then it struck with what sounded like a thunder clap however to his dismay there wasn¡¯t even a mark left on the heart, he was still weak he was still bronze rank. It pained Kael, he thought he would be unmatched after his new inheritance but all it really gave him was a path to strength and not the strength itself. I guess I¡¯m stuck here then Kael decided he would come back and try again once he reached the silver rank so that¡¯s what he did, Kael went back through the tunnel seeing out every creature he could find and now he understood the true power of his perks now, it was his ability to simply keep fighting while his enemies grew weaker and closer to death, this was especially evident when he was fighting groups of creatures. Kael was now going down a different tunnel to what he was going down with Salvador, who had been quiet for a while now, he couldn¡¯t tell if the guy could see what he was doing but Kael knew he would be shocked if he could, he¡¯d turned into a harbinger of death and blood, much like Salvador used to be. Kael came up to another alcove in the tunnel and this one was larger than the one that the ogre had made his home, in fact it was a lot larger because this one was home to a whole tribe of the ogres, this was his first time seeing an ogre since his battle with Salvador and he was excited to test his new strength. He stepped into the alcove, his presence immediately noticed by the nearest ogre, who paused mid-action and turned its monstrous gaze towards him. "Intruder!" the ogre roared, its voice deep and guttural, sending a ripple of tension through the others. Kael didn¡¯t wait for them to react any further. He surged forward with a flash of movement, his scythe raised high. The first ogre he encountered tried to swing a massive club at him, but Kael was faster. he dodged with practiced ease. The club crashed into the ground where he had been just moments before, and Kael struck with deadly precision, his scythe slicing through the ogre¡¯s arm with a sickening crack. The ogre bellowed in pain and a mass of blood erupted from the wound in an unstopping fountain of crimson gore, but before it could retaliate or succumb to its bloodloss, Kael¡¯s blade swept through its neck, severing its head with one clean stroke. The ogre fell to the ground, its body twitching for a moment before finally going still in a sea of its own blood. Kael felt a surge of power¡ªhe could sense the essence of the fallen ogre merging with his own but something else happened, he felt his bloodgod perms grow stronger and when he checked his suspicion was true, he now had 2 lives on his counter, this hadn¡¯t happened when he had killed the other creatures of the cave maybe the ogres are different. The vitality it had once possessed now flowed through him, and the regenerative effect of his Blood God Inheritance worked to keep him in top condition as he moved forward. "Kill him!" another ogre shouted, its voice sharp with fury. Kael could feel the weight of the threat rising as the remaining ogres charged at him. Kael¡¯s scythe was a blur of crimson as he moved in, slicing through the next ogre¡¯s chest with a brutal upward slash. It barely had time to react before its ribcage was exposed, the blade tearing through its flesh like paper. The ogre staggered back, clutching its wound, but Kael was already on it. He delivered another devastating strike, this one carving into its side and cutting deep. With a guttural scream, the ogre collapsed. As Kael moved deeper into the alcove, more ogres rushed him from all sides. He was surrounded, but he didn¡¯t falter. His ability to heal from every wound and drain the essence from those around him made him a force to be reckoned with. Every swing of his scythe felt faster, more controlled, as if he were dancing through the chaos of battle. Blood sprayed into the air, some of it his own, but he regenerated faster than any of the ogres could land a fatal blow. Their heavy, clumsy strikes were like child''s play compared to his speed and precision he had killed at least 20 of the ogres and he wasn¡¯t slowing down.If you come across this story on Amazon, it''s taken without permission from the author. Report it. One of the ogres, larger than the rest and clearly their leader, roared in fury, swinging an enormous warhammer with terrifying force. Kael¡¯s eyes narrowed, and he darted forward, sidestepping the hammer¡¯s deadly arc. He moved in for a strike to the ogre¡¯s side, but the leader was quick, bringing the hammer down in a counterattack that sent shockwaves through the ground. Kael had to leap backward, his feet skidding against the rocky floor as the warhammer impacted the ground where he¡¯d just been standing. The leader grunted, clearly angered by Kael¡¯s evasion. With renewed fury, he swung again, this time faster, more violent. But Kael was already anticipating the move. His scythe struck with a vicious cleave to the ogre¡¯s leg, taking the giant off balance. As the ogre staggered, Kael took his chance. He spun around, the edge of his scythe glowing with the eerie, blood-red fire, and slashed upward, cutting through the ogre¡¯s midsection. The massive beast let out a roar of pain before collapsing to the ground, he wasn¡¯t dead, but he soon would be, Kael just left him there knowing the outcome. With the leader fallen, the remaining ogres hesitated for just a moment, their faces twisted in fear and rage. They had been watching their comrades fall before Kael¡¯s relentless assault. Their once boisterous confidence had been shattered by his brutal efficiency. Kael stood amidst the carnage, breathing heavily but feeling invigorated. His body pulsed with strength, and every swing of his scythe felt like a part of him. He was becoming more than just a warrior¡ªhe was a force of nature, unstoppable and unyielding. The essence of the fallen ogres fed his hunger, pushing him even further into his newfound power. The remaining ogres hesitated for just a moment longer before the fear overtook them, and they began to flee. Kael didn¡¯t let them. He dashed forward, his movements a blur as he cut down the stragglers with ruthless efficiency. His scythe moved like an extension of himself¡ªfluid, precise, and unrelenting. He no longer cared about mercy. His Blood God Inheritance urged him to reap, to kill, to grow stronger. One by one, the ogres fell, their blood spilling across the stone floor of the cavern, their life forces absorbed into Kael¡¯s being. Each kill only made him more powerful, his wounds healing even faster than before. The more they fought, the more he was able to regenerate, his vitality returning with every strike and not oly that he could feel he was close, he was close to the next rank. When the last ogre fell, Kael stood amidst the wreckage, the eerie silence of the cavern settling around him. His breathing was steady, his heart pounding with the rush of battle. He looked around at the bodies of the ogres, feeling their power coursing through his veins. This is just the beginning, Kael thought. I¡¯ll grow stronger. There¡¯s nothing that can stop me now. His Blood God Inheritance had already begun to evolve further, his Absorption allowing him to harvest more power from each kill. But that hunger¡ªhis hunger¡ªwas just getting started. As Kael turned and began to move deeper into the cavern, a new fire burned in his chest it was warm and quite euphoric he understood what this was, this was his ascension to the sliver tier, he didn¡¯t quite know the changes that would happen to himself after he reached silver but he was excited to know. He sat there in a crossed leg position accepting the changes he felt within his soul The first change Kael felt was within his mind. It was as if his thoughts became clearer, sharper, more focused. His senses were heightened, every detail of the cavern¡¯s surroundings now within his perception: the tiniest echo of his breath, the faintest shift in the air, even the subtle vibration of the cavern¡¯s walls. He could hear the faint skittering of insects in the distant shadows, and the rapid beating of his own heart, louder now than ever before. But it wasn¡¯t just his senses that were enhancing. His power, which had felt like a volatile surge earlier, was now smooth, controlled, precise. He could feel it swirling within him he could now exert his own control of the essence within his body rather than in just being within him, however he only had a basic level of control it felt like he was trying to thread a needle with big and burly hands. The Blood God Inheritance began to interact with his soul, making it clear that this wasn¡¯t just an evolution of his physical body he could feel that it increased the effect of his ascension bolstering the improvements that he felt, confirming how important an inheritance is if one wants to grow stronger. Now the process was finished he looked around at his surroundings noticing lots of finer details that he couldn¡¯t see before and one of them was that the leader of the ogre clan was still alive, that was a great surprise to Kael the guy must¡¯ve been silver rank and it gave Kael an idea, he went over to the body picked it up then ran back towards the giant heart where he had fought Salvador, he made sure to get there quickly before the ogre died, he could tell he didn¡¯t have long left. He went to the centre of the cavern where the giant hear was then he lifted up the ogre towards the heart he felt the rhythmic beats grow faster and excited then coils of tendrils shot don¡¯t stabbing the body and some even tried to attack him however he was able to dodge them in time, a cocoon formed over the dead ogres body and Kael just sat there and waited. Chapter 15 The beats of the heart grew faster, and Kael felt the ground beneath him quake. He could hear the shrieks of distant creatures, the dying cries of those who were caught in the cavern¡¯s death throes. The entire system was in chaos as the heart absorbed the ogre¡¯s essence, its power growing to new heights. The once stable, ancient walls of the cavern began to fracture, cracks running along their length, spilling dust and stone into the air. In the distance, the giant tendrils that had been attacking him before started to writhe more aggressively, their reach extending further, searching for any sign of life, any offering. Kael gritted his teeth, every fibre of his being alive with the anticipation of what was to come. This place, this cursed cavern, was on the verge of breaking open, and it was clear the heart¡¯s power was what was driving it all. Kael raised his scythe, its blade still crackling with the power of the Blood of the Abyss. He felt the blood in his veins surge with the energy from the heart, as if both he and the heart were in sync, connected by the violent pulse that echoed through the cavern. ¡°Come then,¡± Kael muttered to himself, his voice a low growl of anticipation. ¡°Show me what you have.¡± The cavern trembled harder, the walls beginning to crumble in larger chunks, as though the very core of the mountain was starting to collapse. The cocoon around the ogre''s body began to split open, and from within, the body began to shift. Tendrils of energy wrapped themselves around the ogre¡¯s flesh, pulling and distorting its form as its features warped and twisted into something far darker, far more powerful than anything Kael had seen before. The ogre¡¯s body grew, its skin darkening, veins glowing with unnatural light, and its size doubled, tripled, until it was a hulking mass of darkness and raw power. The heart¡¯s beats, now almost deafening in their intensity, sent a shockwave through the cavern, causing the entire space to shake violently. The creature that had once been an ogre roared, a terrible, bone-rattling scream that echoed through the caverns as it tore free from the cocoon. The ogre-turned-monster¡¯s eyes burned with an unnatural fire, its limbs massive, and its mouth gaped open to reveal rows of jagged teeth. Kael¡¯s eyes narrowed as the creature advanced, its every step sending tremors through the ground. He could feel its overwhelming presence, the weight of its energy threatening to suffocate him. But Kael stood firm. His body burned with the heat of his new strength, his blood thrumming with power. This was what he had been waiting for¡ªa true challenge, a test of his newfound abilities. The ogre-turned-beast lunged at Kael, its massive fist swinging toward him with blinding speed. But Kael was faster now. He moved with a grace that belied his monstrous strength, sidestepping the blow and countering with a devastating swing of his scythe. However, that isn¡¯t what happened he ogre was far faster than he himself was and ended up reading his movements launching a fist of pure power straight into Kael¡¯s face causing many of his bones to completely shatter, he could no longer move his jaw and breathing felt like a struggle, he was on the hard stone floor while the ogre was walking towards him, it pounced clawing at him with his right arm, the blow would¡¯ve sliced through his head if he hadn¡¯t of moved but not he felt like a piece of him was missing and when he looked to his left he noticed his arm was on the floor separate from his body, it has been sliced off by the ogres claws. The pain was unbearable, a searing shock of agony that ripped through Kael¡¯s entire body. His left arm lay useless and severed on the ground however there was no blood coming out any of his wounds. His chest tightened, each breath shallow and ragged as he tried to regain his bearings, but the world around him was spinning. He could feel the weight of the creature¡¯s monstrous presence, the ground shaking with each of its steps as it advanced toward him, its eyes glowing with a malevolent hunger. Kael¡¯s body refused to move. The pain was too intense, his bones shattered, and his arm a lifeless stump. But as the ogre-turned-beast loomed over him, its claws poised for the killing blow but then it was as if the divine had intervened, a very large piece of rubble came down from the sky, revealing sunlight but not only that it was falling towards the corrupted ogre he just needed it to stay in place and he might have a way out of this hell. He stones decent held true Kael knew he would also be affected by its descent but not as much as the ogre, Kael summoned the very last drop of strength he could manage to muster if not for the chance of victory he wouldn¡¯t have been able to muster this much. Kael moved just in time for the rock to collide with the ground, it was titanic in size and nothing could stop its descent, the ogre looked up in the last second knowing its fate, the force was so great the ogres once large and impenetrable body simply exploded. Then disappeared underneath the large mass of stone never to be seen again. Kael wasn¡¯t the one who had killed the ogre, so he didn¡¯t receive any form of regeneration leaving him stuck almost waiting for death. This story has been taken without authorization. Report any sightings. Kael was waiting there for what seemed forever, until he saw it, it was the same creature he had seen many times in he ventures throughout the cave as well as being the first creature he had faced in this hell, a bat was flying around the open cavern, it was a shame that Kael couldn¡¯t move currently, he started to whistle trying to catch its attention. The faint whistle echoed through the cavern, weak and wavering, but persistent. Kael''s body screamed in protest, his battered frame barely able to sit upright as he mustered all the strength he had left. The bat fluttered erratically in the open space above, its wings slicing through the dank air. At first, it seemed uninterested, a mere flicker in the overwhelming darkness. But then, it paused mid-flight, its ears twitching in the direction of Kael''s strained sound. The bat swooped down cautiously, drawn by the noise but hesitant, as though sensing the danger inherent in this broken figure before it. Kael¡¯s heart pounded as the creature hovered closer, its leathery wings flapping with an unnerving rhythm. He could see its beady black eyes now, glittering with curiosity¡ªor hunger. "Come on..." Kael whispered, his voice barely audible. "Just a little closer." The bat descended, its small body insignificant compared to the cavern¡¯s vastness. It was the smallest creature he¡¯d encountered here, but right now, it was his lifeline, If he could just land a single blow, his regeneration would activate, and he¡¯d be restored. The bat finally landed on the ground a few feet from him, its head cocked to the side as it inspected this strange, broken being. Kael¡¯s hand, trembling with pain, inched toward the scythe lying beside him. The weapon pulsed weakly, sensing his intent, but it too seemed drained from the battle with the ogre. The bat crept closer, emboldened by Kael¡¯s apparent helplessness. Its wings folded back as it crawled forward, its sharp teeth glinting in the dim light. Kael¡¯s fingers brushed against the hilt of the scythe, his grip tightening as the creature prepared to lunge. With a sudden burst of adrenaline, Kael swung the weapon upward in a wide arc. The blade connected with the bat mid-leap, splitting its fragile body in two with a wet, crunching sound. Blood sprayed across the cavern floor, and the small creature''s death was instantaneous. The effects were immediate. Kael¡¯s body jolted as the Blood of the Abyss surged to life, his inheritance drinking deeply of the bat¡¯s essence. Warmth spread through him like wildfire, his shattered bones snapping back into place, his torn muscles knitting themselves together. The stump where his arm had been sliced off moments ago pulsed with an unbearable heat, and then, miraculously, a new arm began to grow¡ªfresh, powerful, and alive with the same dark energy coursing through him. Kael gasped as he felt his strength returning, his lungs filling with air as if he¡¯d been drowning moments before. The pain ebbed away, replaced by an intoxicating sense of vitality. The cavern around him seemed brighter, his senses sharper, his mind clearer. He stood slowly, flexing his regenerated arm and testing the strength in his legs. He could feel the power thrumming beneath his skin, a reminder of the price of survival. The bat¡¯s life had been insignificant, a mere speck in the abyss, but it had given him the strength to continue. Kael realised that he was still weak, still didn¡¯t have the strength to be in control of his destiny, he knew that his current enemies weren¡¯t at all the pinnacles of this world from what Salvador had told him but still he ended up almost dead. And his greatest adversary was still in front of him and greatly weakened he was going to take this opportunity to grow stronger, and he would do so with his strongest ability. Kael walked over towards the still beating heart, its rhythmic pulse not felt uncoordinated and shallow, weak. He reached out into his soul using all the power he could muster then willed the heart and all its power to go into his scythe. The heart couldn¡¯t even try to resist his power was true, he felt them combine and the result was a ghastly scythe that almost looked eroded: [Blood of the abyss(corrupted)] [weapon] [Gold (evolving)] [abilities] Corrupted power: this weapon can be bolstered to the next rank (platinum) for as long as its fed blood Sentience: this weapon has a mind of its own Evolving power: after killing an enemy this weapon can use their power [description] A scythe born from a vulgar soul and pure flames and a corrupted heart The heart didn¡¯t seem to boost the rank to the next level or change his weapon completely which he appreciated he didn¡¯t want his weapon to change, he liked its abilities, and the new ability was especially powerful, being able to boost the weapons rank was invaluable, he couldn¡¯t image the power the weapon would have at the platinum rank and it still manages to grow along with the weapon aswell. "Well, isn¡¯t this a twist?" Salvador¡¯s voice echoed in his mind, dripping with bitter amusement. "I thought you¡¯d die like the pathetic worm you are, but look at you, devouring the heart¡¯s power. I wonder if you even know what you''ve just done." Ignoring the voice in his head Kael tightened his grip on the scythe and activated Corrupted Power. A surge of black and red energy exploded from the weapon, its glow intensifying until it became almost blinding. The oppressive aura expanded, filling the cavern like a tide of malevolence. The weapon felt alive in his hands, vibrating with an almost uncontrollable energy. Kael¡¯s entire body trembled as the power coursed through him, the scythe''s temporary ascension to Platinum making him feel invincible. He swung the scythe experimentally, its edge cutting through the air with a force that seemed to distort reality itself. The strike unleashed a wave of energy that carved deep scars into the stone walls, the force shaking the entire cavern. Even at its temporary peak, the weapon retained its blood-hungry nature, demanding more essence to sustain its elevated state he felt the weapon start to drink his own blood, so Kael quickly deactivated the enhancement. A grin now adorned his face.
